she is such an awesome teacher!! she needs more time for her lectures b/c she goes so in depth, making it so easy to understand the material!! she's so cute!!!
Helpful, thurough, funny, personable, fair, she needs more time to teach but thats not her fault--the curriculum is pretty huge to even just skim all of HD. Awesome teacher, easy exams and only 3 of 4 tests are marked. Awesome teacher, highly recommended
Oh my GOODNESS!! I can't say enough great things about Prof Chuang!! She is funny, caring, passionate, sensitive, honest, intelligent prof!! Not only did I learn about human development, I learned a lot about life. I would HIGHLY recommend her!!
Really funny and entertaining. Sometimes makes the material interesting, other times just takes it straight from the text. Really easy mark, she boasts about how she cannot make a hard exam and it's true!
I am not a big fan. Her assignments are confusing and occasionally she will get sarcastic and rude with people who ask questions in order to do better, doesn't explain things well and her exams are completly unfair, she should not be writing M/C. I would not have her again as a Prof.
By far the easiest class i have ever taken and the easiest prof. it's a joke. i learned nothing. class includes general statements, furthering stereotypes, meaningless (and questionable) statistics, and stupid jokes. Sometimes I wonder if she knows what she's talking about. She'll make a mistake or draw a blank and answer it with a "Whatever!"
exam and midterm are both really easy but she gets upset when you hand it in after 20 minutes. goes off on rants and stories quite a bit.
horrible, could not answer her own exam questions. cannot imagine how she got her phd. worst prof in the world.
not organized
This woman is not very professional, and is one of those professors who teaches more to feed her ego than to actually teach others. Sorry, but it's the truth. Her classes are really easy too.
EASIEST TEACHER EVER. unles you are truly looking for a good eduction and to learn, this is the best teacher you could possibly ask for if your just looking for a good grade. i specifically look for her name when choosing my electives. tests and assignments are unbelievably easy.
WOMAN CHILD
susan chuang is the most hilarious excuse for a prof ever and i love her. shes honestly passionate and deep down i think she might be really smart. take her class if you need to raise your gpa. make sure you know what is going on because she sure as hell doesnt. oh and dont expect the tas to know anything. she tells them less than you.
Love this prof! I've had her pretty much every semester since I started and I have no complaints. She gives you clear guidelines for assignments and I've always done very well in her classes because of this. Textbook important...read! She's also hilarious, love her teachering style, hope I have her every year!
absolutely useless. doesn't mark papers based on rubric. can't answer any questions. disorganized. didn't even attend final exam.
Doesn't seem to know what she's talking about most of the time. Sometimes her own slides confuse her and she skips them. Lectures give the main points directly from the textbook without explanation or elaboration, but you need to go to class anyways to hear about chinese new year, because that will always be on the exam.
She rarely knows whats going on. She struggles to fill her 50 minute class time slot, often resorting to showing mindless youtube videos. She knows about as much about the course as the TA's did. No idea how someone with so many qualifications can be such a poor professor.
You have to attend her class to get the notes. She uses both textbook and her notes. She will also say stuff in class that you just have to write down and she'll test you on it. She's enjoyable to be around and makes the class interesting and simplifies concepts that are difficult. loved her class!
VERY easy course. If she offers you marketing students don't take them!
Loved this class! Also had her for Infancy. You must attend lecture as the slides are somewhat confusing to understand if you do not! Easy to talk to!
Made online quiz IMPOSSIBLE because class average was high. Try 80 multiple choice questions in 45 minutes on 4 chapters that you have to know in detail including memorization of statistics. And this is only worth 10 percent - too much stress for that weight.
Great teacher. You will get a good mark if you put in the effort. Also you should go to class as she gives good explanations and examples of the concepts which make them easier to remember.
Really easy course. If you read the chapters and complete the questions at the end of each chapter, you will get a great mark.
Super easy course, got A+. No need to attend lectures, all lecture slides were just summary of textbook material. Seemed like, at times, she did not know what she was actually talking about and was just regurgitating material. Annoying when she constantly stops lecture because people are talking in class. Overall, really nice and fun professor
She is funny but drags on topics for way to long. She tries to make the class not so boring. However has trouble controlling the class
Amazing teacher! Makes all lectures interesting with videos and always brings class candy. Easy to get a 90 as long as you read the slides and the chapters.
Awesome Prof all around! Great lecture slides that went hand and hand with the text, super fun term assignment, two simple midterms and a fair final. I strongly recommend this class!
My fav. prof so far. I never got bored in her class and it was a night class. She's really funny. The final assignment is easy to get 100% on. The exams are easy if you go to class and the textbook is easy to understand.
Great
Assignments were fairly clear, and if they weren't there was help available. Easy to get a good mark with as long as you do the work, which isn't too difficult.
Had her for a 1st year seminar & she is the most amazing woman I have ever met. Goes out of her way to be there personally for her students. Helped me get a job & asks me to see her outside of class to check up on me. Although she isn't very clear w assignments, she's an easy grader once it's clear & my writing improved a lot. She's also hilarious
great prof. lectures are decently interesting, material can be a bit dry but her impressions of children are hilarious and shes very reasonable. definitely a good prof if you want to go for higher education, she loves grad students, masters students and giving references. also she occasionally brings candy! Scrapbook assignment is pretty easy too.
Awesome teacher!
Professor Chuang saved my life. I probably wouldn't be alive to write this had it not been for her counseling, support and guidance. She is a wonderful person both in and out of the classroom. I would definitely recommend taking her classes. She supports her students to the full.
I took this class as an elective (i'm a science student). During the final she was extremely arrogant, she wore HEALS to the final making it difficult to focus (from all the click clacking), not to mention the numerous times she had to stop the class because of mistakes she made on the final exam. Overall, she's fun in class, but awful at teaching
Horrible prof when it comes to making fair questions. Content is simple and basic to understand yet she words questions where multiple answers are reasonable but looks for a specific one that may have been an example out of the 120 pages of text you would have to read prior to the test. Extremely irritating during tests (constant interruptions)
She changed my life. I was distant and really lonely at times, she turned me around with her lessons and advice. this class was life changing and i would do it all over again if i could.
Very funny prof! Her lectures tend to be long because she tells so many personal stories. I find her to be a bit disorganized with her grading criteria and instructions, but she is an easy marker. Definitely does everything she can to set you up for success! FRHD 2260 is all group work, so steer clear if that's not your thing!
The course is fairly simple, with 2 tests, 1 big project and a final. Project called Book of Knowledge, basically you just make up a scrapbook of stages of life and it can be on yourself. Tests and exam are non-cumulative. She's hilarious and runs after class meetings to help you build your resume and prepare you for grad school. Overall great prof
Truly cares about students and tries her best to make lecture interesting! She wants you to do well!
Not a very nice prof, not only mean to her TAs but to her students as well. You can't approach her otherwise she's just rude. Do not recommend. Made a lot of mistakes this year.
Dr. Chuang is such a kind and caring lady. I really liked her as a person, but as a prof she is average at best. Most of her lecture time is spent digressing by telling stories, but she makes it clear right off the bat that attending lecture is optional. She is incredibly accommodating, and wants you to succeed. Tests easy if you do the readings.
Dr. Chuang is such an amazing person! Maybe not the best professor, but she is hilarious. She will make you want to go to class. Her grading makes it very easy to get 100% on all assignments.
Prof. Chuang is a really nice person but CANNOT TEACH. She is not approachable and insists everything must be posted to discussion boards and will sass you if you email her. Her lectures are really boring and consist of her rambling about her personal life. And lets not forget about how disorganized everything she does is. She will STRESS you out.
Very disorganized with everything. Taking her class is stressful because you never know what is going on. If you don't have to, don't take it.
super disorganized but such easy marks for this class, you don't even have to show up , just to the readings and you'll get literally 100% in both tests. Group project is easy, and assignments are basically if you do them, you get 100%.
Prof Chuang is the funniest prof I have ever had. She makes class exciting (she is so disorganized its actually hilarious) There are a few assignments which you get 100% on if you do them, the midterms are the easiest things in the world and there is a super simple group project instead of an exam! I would take her classes any day
Seems like a caring and laid back prof but be careful with assignments. Her grading criteria seems straight forward but it really isn't. Sticks to the rules and can't empathize with students. Would not take another course of hers.
NEVER again. Grading criteria was unclear, and she was so disorganized. She was accessible outside of class to talk about grad school and resumes, but she wouldn't answer questions about material if it couldn't be generalized to the whole class. It was an easy mark, but I'd rather take a way harder class than suffer through that again.
Her lectures are awful, she's all over the place and always ends up talking about irrelevant things that happened in her life. I personally can't stand the way she teaches, but I had to go to all her lectures because there are class participation marks. Honestly, she knows her stuff but she cannot teach.
It is hard to explain what this prof is like. She outside of class is really helpful and open to talk about opportunities for your future, but her classes are extremely disorganized and its frustrating. Her tests weren't very easy, but the project will help your mark.
Chaung is an inconsiderate prof who does not care about the success of her students. Although her classes are easy, she is awful at communication and helping her students when needed. Don't even try to argue a mark because she will either ignore you or tell you there is nothing she can do.
Dr. Chuang is a very sweet and caring lady, and teaches an interesting subject, but is not my favourite. Tests on the most random and nit-picky things, and is a tough grader for the group project, while not providing much detail on the expectations. Definitely don't underestimate this course, as the textbook needs to be read, and the work put in.
Never taken an online course before in my life, but having her as a prof makes it super easy. She is very clear with her instructions and she has lots of information available to you. She responds to everyones concerns and really tries to make sure her students succeed. It is also a super easy course, but make sure to complete all the discussions.
amazing prof, very nice this class was an easy A
TAKE THIS COURSE! Prof is very accommodating and changed our course outline to make it easier for us during these stressful times. Course involves a lot of reading the assignments and discussion posts are very, very easy as long as you put effort. Prof C remarked one of our projects which lowered our marks but gave feedback for improvement to help.
She is very understanding and wants her students to do well. She works with students throughout the semester to ensure everyone is doing well in her course.
She gets mad at students for emailing her questions. The point of a prof is to teach you...
Her assignments although seemly simple, are marked hard and most times don't make sense. It seems like a free for all even if you read all of the instructions you have a 1/2 chance of actually getting a good mark. This class is a bird course but with this prof... watch out.
Prof Chuang is very helpful and accomodating. I have taken 6 DE courses over my time at Guelph, so I was prepared to read an entire textbook. Tests were fair, just make sure you read and memorize every detail from the text. Be prepared that if the entire class does well, the final assignment will be graded HARD just to drop the class average.
I recommend taking this course in person if possible. Do not consider it to be a bird course, especially DE. If you do well on tests, it is assumed that you have cheated and don't actually work hard for your grades, so the assignment will be marked to drop your grade and thus your average. This is the lowest grade I have gotten in an elective.
Dr. Chuang is a unique professor, and I greatly respect her thoughtful announcements. However, she is a professor who does not want her own students to succeed. If the whole class does well above expectations on a test, she assumes that every student cheated and encourages TA's to mark very tough on the final assignment.
Dr. Chuang is a good and caring prof. For the most part the class was good, except for the final assignment. Tests and discussion posts were fair, but the 35% final project had vague instructions and was marked very hard.
The class itself if fairly easy expect for the finial project that ha vague instructions and it marked with specific aspects in mind. The prof herself comes off very rude in emails and is unfair.
I took this course thinking it would be a bird course. The TA marked the final assignment extremely hard. The majority of the class lost marks on things that weren't stated in the instructions. If the whole class was doing good, the prof would try to do something to make the average fall (hence how hard the assignment was marked).
Dr. Chuang is a very nice and respectful professor. But, the main issue with Ms. Chuang is that she assumes that every student cheats if the class average is higher than expected. This results in her and the TA's being more nitpicky with the final assignment (35%) and more unforgiving.
Overall not a terrible prof, but the final project had vague instructions and when it comes down to marking, marks will be taken off from things not mentioned in instructions.
She is quite unprofessional in regard to how she handles grading and technical issues. If you do well she will assume you are cheating. She instructed the TA's to pummel the class on the final assignment because the class average was high. My average was 96% until the final assignment where many people scored in the 30s.
I would not recommend taking this class with this prof. The class did very well on the 2 midterms, but this caused the prof to grade our final assignment harder because she doesn't like how high the average was. I was at 95% before the final assignment and dropped 17%. The marking for the final assignment was so unfair.
Terrible marking on final assignment!!! She fails students and then offers no help for students that ask for help. Professor tells TA's to mark very hard if class average is too high. Not fair!
I took FRHD1010 because I read everywhere that it is a bird course and good mark booster. The whole semester I felt that it was bird, lot of the exams were testbank type questions and available on google. BUT when the class performed well, this prof would get offended for some reason, and say we had too much time. Poor feedback, lots of attitude.
I think most people either love her or hate her. I thought she was funny (although a lot of the videos she showed were really cringey). She made a lot of efforts to support the first years and any students who reached out. I liked her but sometimes I couldn't tell if she was joking or just being mean. Course was easy though.
One of the best profs. Take this course as a bird course but make sure you understand what the final assignment entails at the start of the course. This prof would remove questions from tests afterwards if many students struggled with it, this boosted my tests up by a lot. She gave appropiate extensions and cares for student success.
I love Dr. Chuang! Amazing and funny prof. Very accessible outside of class if you need further clarification on anything. The tests were fair too, and she takes marks off of it if everyone did poorly. The tests are based off textbook only, so memorization is a big part of this course. Overall, she made it very enjoyable and honestly very easy.
The professor gave midterms that were on hidden concepts deep in the textbook. Making it difficult to get good grades. The other opportunity was the final assignment. The professor made the criteria completely unclear and honestly made it clear for one way and then once submitted completely changed criteria making most of the class fail.
I don't the bad reviews... The content on the midterms were fair, and when the average was low she would boost everyone's mark (she also did this for the final assignment). She cares about student success and very accommodating. It's mostly a memorization class as all tests are based off the textbook, so don't take it if that's not your strength.
When students post questions, they aren't answered. The instructions are extremely unclear. Varying and contradictory instructions depending on where you look. Super unorganized, and it appears Susan took very little care in what the course would actually be like for students taking it.
This professor is unable to provide clear and concise instructions on how to complete assignments. She then blames the students for not completing the assignment correctly. I think that some reflection/responsibility is way overdue here. Have taught university courses for 20 years and never read such poorly worded/convoluted instructions.
She gives vague and unclear assignment instructions making it difficult to get a good grade.
Do not take if not needed. Assignment instructions are unclear and vague. She posts announcements clarifying the instructions right before the deadline which contradicts everything that was said before.
Would not take again. She has very unclear assignment instructions and rubrics and constantly changes assignment requirements on the day that they are due. Blames many of her poor practices on the restrictions of online courses. TA-run discussion boards are generally the only place to get actual answers. The content itself is fine.
She is insufficient to provide students with clear and transparent information to complete assignments successfully. If students didn't follow instructions exactly as she unspokenly expects, she would blame students for it, and doesn't even care to help clarify anything. I would not take any course with this lady. Stay away from her if you can.
Easy class just do your work
The professor has so many unspoken rules. She gave us updates which were contradictory to the assignment's instructions. Me and my peers were so confused about what to do. Never take any courses of this person. Don't waste your energy. Not good for your mental health.
The class requires simulations and quests on a paid program, which for me just looks like a black screen 90% of the time so I cant even complete them. The program looks like it was made in the 1800's. Completely unhelpful when I told her about this issue. Very clear this program the prof requires is just money in their pocket..
Course is not well structured at all. Lots of time consuming readings, so don't take this course if you are not willing to memorize little details from her textbook. We have more questions than we have minutes on tests, and prof doesn't seem to care for student success. This course is not a bird course!!
Absolutely loved prof. chuang. Her lectures could be a little boring but she tried her best to make them enjoyable. very interactive opportunities
Not a good experience. Her instructions always contradict. Not friendly either.
Terrible experience. She barely explains anything and gets rude when you ask questions. Lessons felt stressful instead of helpful. Wouldn't recommend
Why is her score so low?! I absolutely LOVE this woman, she's hilarious and heartwarming. I wish she was my mother she brought candy to every single lecture. I agree that her instructions were sometimes vague, but that can be overlooked due to a large majority of the final grade being from 2 easy online tests.
All her course content is McGraw hill and other things that were not directly created by her, and in her lectures she just reads off the slides, so there isnt really any point in going. she was really funny and nice sometimes but can be intense.
Professor herself is hilarious, and is fun to be around. However, the way she has structured the course itself is not great. Textbook readings are time consuming (3-5 hours), and questions on tests are literally randomized from the textbook, so LOTS of memorization. Extremely vague with assignment, the rubric did was completely useless.
Took this as a bird course, wouldn't recommend. Reads off slides and doesn't engage well, you ask her a question and she doesn't give a direct answer. Was very kind on marking and ensuring we could do our best, but overall all over the place. There is a group project for the course, rubric not specific and not a lot of guidance.
hated her class, never went. readings were long and sooo repetitive. she can come across very rude as well. i often found that the quizzes and final exam were so stupid and random. how on earth am i supposed to know some of that stuff!! only good thing is its easy to get 100 on the textbook questions and simulations.
If you guys are ever thinking of doing research or working with her, DO NOT DO IT! She will have all these false promises and try to “buy you” by telling you she can help you reach all your goals. But when it comes to actually working with her she is extremely rude, arrogant, and she will make you feel that you are incompetent. Save your mental!
Guidelines and rubric for the group project were not clear. Tests and exam are on really specific details from the textbook.
Prof. Chuang was an interesting professor to say the least, her slideshows were not well organized and rubrics were very vague. When approached she is rude and doesn't fully answer the question asked. The textbook readings were very time consuming and the quizzes were very repetitive. The tests and exams were also on very specific material.
She's definitely not a horrible prof, I agree her instructions were vague and she didn't always answer questions well but majority of the class was online tests and it was an easy 100 on the simulations and chapters. She's super funny and overall a pretty lenient prof.
The content is pretty easy but if you take this course you're going to be teaching yourself. I skipped this class as 3 hours of listening to her talk is torture. her slides make no sense and is all in abbreviations she made up. most of the work is online and easy to get a 100. if you come to her, know it's not getting fixed unless asked 10 times
Her classes are long and boring which are mainly not her fault but the slides make no sense and very poorly sum up the content from the textbook. She doesn't seem too good with technology lots of mishaps this semester and her emails aren't the kindest.
extroverted prof but excruciatingly boring class, everything is online and slides don't rly help plus u need mcgraw hill which was torture and took forever but there were fun simulations u could do, theres also 1 group project overall somewhat sort of easy but very time consuming
