Good teacher! Tests are straight forward and based on what she goes over in lecture. If you are taking finance 521, I would recommend taking her class.
She is great! Easy class. Lets you use notes on some of the quizzes. Gives a study guide before the tests, and the tests only cover material on the study guide. She is easy to understand, and is a good teacher. She's kind of hot in an older woman way, but yea, def take her if you can! Not much work compared to 620
Not bad, but not as easy as everyone makes it out to be. She would be a much better professor if she used online quizzes, like other 721 isntructors, instead of unannounced, closed book quizzes at 8:30 AM. Very attractive
Very good instructor and she is great to talk to. Fairly straight-forward tests and I feel like this is one of the best classes I took in Fisher. Only complaint are the sometimes unannounced, closed-book quizzes
GREAt tEAChER! She gives you study guides for all of the midterms/final which are non-cumm. Gives 6 quizzes and lowest one is dropped (2 were take home, 2 were open note, 1 was hinted to study for, and 1 was a total surprise). NOt bAd! She is soo helpful and answers any questions. dEfiNitELY tAkE hER!
Susan is a great professor. Her notes are simple and clear and she moves fast, but is happy to slow down to explain stuff in more detail if you ask. Exams were fairly easy (averages were 84,85,89) but there's no curve in the class. Quizzes weren't too difficult either, but be prepared for a pop quiz or two.
Not as easy as shes made out to be. She doesnt cover all the info you need in class so make sure you READ THE BOOK and do the problems in the book.
Super easy! Take her!!
I love this kind of stuff so i thought the class was easy, but she is a great teacher! she made it very interesting, she told great stories in class. if you do the practice problems and go to class you should be fine on the exams.
I was very interested in the subject matter before I came into the class. However, even if you aren't I highly recommend Prof. Clark, she is a great teacher! If you go over the assigned problems, you'll have no problem doing well in the class. If you have the opportunity to take any class with her I highly recommend it.
I loved the class and she was a great teacher for it. She made it really interesting and fun to go to class and learn the material. I thought it was pretty easy, I highly recommend her and will be taking her again in the future.
Susan is a great teacher, she teaches you what you need to know without making you learn a bunch of useless stuff. The tests are fairly easy, the work problems are similar to the practice ones. I would take her again for any finance class, she makes it enjoyable. I definitely recommend her.
Good prof. She writes really quickly on the board, like that matters. Exams are fairly simple, average is in the 80's. Cases are so so.
I only had her for recitation, but she was very friendly and enthusiastic (but not overly), which made an 8 AM class bearable. She genuinely wants to help and wants everyone to do well. Her teaching is very straight forward and clear.
Great professor, very helpful, case studies aren't that difficult. She grades fairly, gives good exam reviews, and is willing to help anyone individually who asks for it. Class isn't super exciting but you learn a lot if you pay attention and attend. Also, people aren't lying, she is a very attractive woman. Highly recommend Susan
Teaches way too fast
She is an angel. So Nice
She is awesome! Tough class, but if you do the practice problems and work at it, you'll be fine. She is the nicest lady ever, super chill, and just a Bro. If you do poorly in this class, it won't be because of her. Susan is the bee's knees.
One of the best professors at Fisher. Really works to make everything easy to understand and help out in anyway.
Great professor. Has a setup similar to Marc Smith's intro to accounting classes. Not quite as good, but I like the fact that there are clear things to do for review, I really appreciate when professors lay that out for you.
Oh my god is this class easy, and Professor Clark does her best to make sure the whole group does well. All you have to do is go to lecture, go to recitation, and study recitation problems / lecture materials to get a good grade. It's an intro level finance course, and god bless Professor Clark for teaching us the material because it's so simple
Professor Clark is probably the best professor I have ever had! Her lectures are super clear, she goes above and beyond to help you learn the material, and she is just an awesome person. I highly recommend her!
Attendance not mandatory, you can go to whichever lectures and recitations you want even with different profs. Final grade determined by a few problem sets and the exams. Tough class bc it's easy to push off material and fall behind. Attend classes and do practice problems! Barely curved the exams. Didn't use textbook
Amazing teacher. The course is extremely manageable. She isn't one of those .... who tries to get you with sneaky trick questions. Her class is very straightforward and to the point. She is always there to help you if you need it, too. I highly recommend taking her class if you need it. 11/10
Susan makes learning relatively difficult material extremely easy. She is there before and after class if you need her and is always willing to help. The class itself is not hard at all. If you just watch the videos, go to lecture, and recitation then its easy A. Would take another class with Susan in a heartbeat
Susan is very nice and explains things well, however class consisted of 4-5 examples and some powerpoint and lectures which didn't help much when it came to harder material. Its a lot of self studying, class did not help much.
Clark was very helpful in lecture and wants to make sure you actually know the material. Clark and Wellman post online recitation videos, but going to the in-person recitations helped me more because they explain more. Reading the textbook helps you understand conceptual questions. The exams are similar to the recitation problems & practice exams.
Susan is really nice, pretty funny, and is a solid lecturer. Finance is extremely dry, but she does her best to make it fun. I do think she overcomplicates some things, but with some self-study you should be okay. I'd recommend NOT enrolling in the online recitation; I didn't put the work in, and being required to go to an in-class would've helped.
I thought she was a good lecturer, until I figured her tests had nothing to do with what she taught during class: lectures were too easy. I felt all my work was wasted. I tried to read textbook myself for final and that worked better.
Susan is a great teacher. She helped me a lot when I ever had questions with the material. Class is not too bad. Watch the videos, go to lecture, and go to recitation. And please do the practice exams, they were very similar to the actual exams.
Amazing professor. Very helpful and willing to go out of way to help a student pass.
Lecture not necessarily needed with online recitations and lots of in-person available really helping students. Gives manageable online quizzes and then 3 exams that if you do her suggested problems you do well in the class. One of those profs who is there for the students and enjoys it.
Despite having 1200 students, Susan is very organized and her class runs smoothly. She puts everything you might need on the website (videos, slides, quizzes, etc.). Reading the text is important for the exams. Asks a lot of theory-based questions in addition to the finance problems. Tests are only 20 questions so the margin of error is small.
Susan is definitely in my top 5 favorite professors at Ohio State. She gives me the "cool grandma" vibe and is so funny and knowledgeable. She knows what she's talking about and she knows exactly how to prepare thousands of people to take her exams. I love love love her and would recommend her for everyone
Very good and caring teacher, the subject material is just hard to grasp and the exams aren't cumulative but they build on each other. So make sure to stay on track and learn all the concepts as they are introduced before you fall behind. You can show up to any lecture and recitation you want, so it's nice to be able to choose your favorite prof.
great class structure
Be prepared to learn by yourself. She doesn't know how to teach finance at this level. Tough grader for the case, because she graded it based on the "accuracy". If you have other opinion which deviate from the answer sheet she got for the case, you gonna screwed in this one. Basically, she teaches this class by using others teaching materials.
Susan Clark is a great lecturer and it's a straightforward class. If you attend lecture and recitation and study for the exams you will be fine. You need to understand the conceptual information and not just the quantitative side to do well.
Professor Clark is a great professor. She somehow manages to keep an introductory finance class kind of engaging so kudos for that. I would definitely recommend taking her class.
She's nice when you ask her a question about the material, and will help you. The class itself isn't that hard, but I felt she made it hard by being so disorganized and unwilling to listen if you had a problem that led you to perform poorly on a test/assignment.
Hard class, shes not the best at explaining clearly. way to much work fr.
Very difficult tests and not willing to make accommodations about exam times.
tough class and her lectures are very boring. exams were so so difficult but ended w a b because there was so much homework and discussion posts weekly
I didn't learn anything concept-wise because she merely reads off the slides and doesn't explain anything in lecture. Exams are 25 questions so if you miss 2 you're already at an A-. Quizzes and homework are easy points. I also don't understand why exams are scheduled at 9pm. Doable class but she's not that great at teaching and exams are annoying.
Susan is by far the worst Professor I have ever had. She is not approachable at all. She does not teach and all she does is read off the slides. The slides and book have like nothing in common. Do not take this class with her unless she is the only option left. She will make you hate your life. You have to teach yourself in this class.
Professor Clark is one of the better professors. To be honest the class mostly depends on your own desire to learn. The homework grade is an easy A, but the class is very test-heavy. She drops one of them, but make sure you study. If you put in the work that is required you will do fine. Overall if I had to take a class with her again I would.
This class is forgiving with hw + several tests but you have to put in the effort. Susan tends to vaguely gloss over things as if she's refreshing the memory of business executives instead of college students learning this material for the first time. She's much better in recitation but she only covers about 50% of the test. You'll need the book
Professor Clark did not spend enough time covering the conceptual questions that were on each of the exams. All of her lectures are not helpful for the tests. Be prepared to spend a lot of time studying and reading the book/doing practice problems. Overall, do not take her for this class unless you have to do it.
Professor Clark was not good at explaining any concepts and half of the exam consists of conceptual questions. Her lectures are not helpful at all and she reads from the slides. It did not feel like an introductory finance class. Her exams were nothing like her lectures. I wish Marc Smith taught this class he actually knows how to explain things!
Professor Clark is a great professor. She is very knowledgeable on finance and knows how to teach that to students. She definitely cares for her students and wants them to learn. If you study for exams and do practice problems, you'll do great.
It is hard to understand the concepts because she doesn't seem to get that this is the first finance class the a lot of students are taking. She teaches like we already have a basic knowledge of the subject. She seems like a nice lady and class is manageable, but kind frustrating if you actually want to learn.
Do not try to rely on her lectures because they only cover half of the material on the exams and homework. She likes to think that we know every basic term she uses and skims over everything. This class is also very test heavy and you will need to use the book to teach yourself everything. I do not recommend this professor.
Susan is by far one of the laziest professors I've ever had. Her lectures skip over at least half of the material she puts on her exams, and doesn't even let you see your old exams to study from. You basically have to teach yourself the class. Really, the entire class is taught by mindtap, not Susan. Also, 75% of your grade is based off the tests!!
Professor Clark does not know how to teach an intro-level finance course. The class is very exam-heavy and I hated how we had exams every two weeks 5 exams plus a final which is insane. I never had to take that many exams for any of my other classes. She thinks her class is the only class students are taking, put in the effort you will pass.
5 exams + a final was just awful, not too much homework, but this was pretty unbearable at times. She would just post the lectures with examples and you have to watch them. It was pretty easy for it being 100% online. If you put in the work, you will get a good grade.
5 midterms and a final is unnecessary. Exams were very difficult. Not structured very well. Didnt like this class at all
very straight forward and clear, all you have to do really is practice the recitation problems and review the concepts and the tests are an easy A
Pretty straightforward professor. Watch the lectures and video modules and do the homework and the class won't be bad at all. Some of the exams were a little bit difficult but that is expected in any class. I recommend.
Really good professor, helps explain things really clearly, and was super helpful at essentially explaining everything that you needed to know for exams.
Really organized class and is not time-consuming. The lectures are very clear and she explains things well. There are like 6 exams in this class which was annoying but you get to drop one. She focuses heavily on the math problems so you have to read the book to understand the concepts for the exam. Nice professor.
Tests are difficult, but there are other opportunities to get a good grade.
Best professor at fisher! Very passionate in finance and inspired me to do more in the realm!
Most difficult professor I have had. The TA's even complain that most of her exams are very unfair and cover not even half of the material she talks about in her lectures. They told me to really study off of Mindtap because the questions come from there. There's only 3 exams (not 4 anymore) with one final, but all very brutal.
Extremely difficult course. 75% of the grade is based on exams (3 midterms, 1 final). The final is cumulative. Exams are very tough and she barely covers any material in the lectures. Exam questions cover things that were never went over in class. Unfair class and exams
Class is difficult, lectures do not teach you what you need to know on exams. The amount of time needed for each exam question will little time to take the exam is nearly impossible. You will be teaching yourself finance. Recitations just work through problems that the TA's already know and understand.
Not a good professor AT ALL. She really does not care about her students and her exams are unnecessarily hard. Very unfortunate that she is the only one that teaches this course. Her TA's are very inexperienced and her lectures were very pointless. I had to teach myself with the textbook. Glad I never have to worry about this class again.
Literally taught by her TAs. I came to the 1pm office hour and one of the TAs had 1 summary slide she gave to her recitation that basically sums up the entirety of class (>30 slides). She explained the concept really well and gave it context from outside of class.
She is a nice lady but absolutely horrible. She never explained anything in lectures so everyone was confused. TAs were clueless and constantly made so many mistakes. The tests were also super unnecessarily hard and weighted extremely heavily using Proctorio. Unfortunately she is the only one that teaches this course so you are stuck with her.
She doesn't care about her students and its very clear. Went to office hours and she literally told me she probably confused me even more.
Susan practically does nothing. Pre recorded lectures for each section and she holds office hours one day a week for a total of 2 hours. Have a class during her office hours? You will never see her the entire semester. Class is essentially TA taught. It would be really nice if she could provide a paper of formulas for each chapter, or a study guide
The online videos give you minimal information and it feels as though professor Clark is just reading off the screen. To succeed you need to put in lots of effort on your own time by reading the book and taking detailed notes. I scored significantly above average on every exam and still only had a B+.
I only met her once, she seemed nice but she taught me nothing. The lectures barely touch anything on the exams and you quite literally have to each yourself the entire course.
Her very brief, pre-recorded lectures do not prepare you for the difficulty of her exams whatsoever. She is also dishonest about class averages in order to avoid curving the class. I would suggest taking the class with another professor but unfortunately, she is the only lecturer. More annoying class than 2320, 2200, and 2300.
The pre-recorded lectures and the recitations are nothing like what you expect on the exams. She just reads of the slides, and you essentially have to teach the course to yourself. There is no curve for this class either and she's the only professor who teaches the class and this class is basically designed to just fail you.
Horrible professor. Make your own review sheets, look at TA reviews, less repetition. The only good thing I got from this class is a job referral to J.P.Morgan from one of her TAs.
You have to read the textbook in order to do well because her lecture videos are really short and barely help. Go to the recitations because they do help, but to reiterate, you basically have to teach yourself. The exams are pretty difficult and each question is worth 4 points, so you can't miss too many questions or you'll do terrible.
Her grading policy is simply illogical. It punishes hard working students by dropping 3 homework assignments. If you do well on the homework assignments, dropping 3 actually hurts your grade as it did with me. Also, lecture videos are borderline useless. She just regurgitates the textbook. I learned more from my TAs than I did from her videos
Horrible Professor. Taught NOTHING. Lecture videos are confusing and pointless. I would study HOURS for exams and do bad due to confusing questions not mentioned in the lecture or recitation. I pretty much had to teach myself this entire class. No extra credit or curves. She did not open her SEIs at the end because she knew we would rip her apart.
Far and wide my class experience ever. Susan legitimately did not do anything but shove an online textbook in our faces at the beginning of the semester and say good luck. Honestly have no clue what she contributed to the class besides her lecture videos that covered ~1/3 of the exam content. Despised it from the start. Extremely unorganized class.
Horrid class structure. Don't expect a curve, she is lazy professor using covid recordings as her lecture. Tests are stupid, math is easy but the conceptual questions are stupidly wordy and difficult. Good luck.
there was no teaching, all self taught.
Horribly lazy lecture videos. Entirely self taught with zero help except from TA's. She does not care about you or your grade.
Useless lectures that she just reads off the slides. Hopefully your TA can help because she won't.
Absolute joke of a class. Didn't see Susan once throughout the entire semester because of her only using pre-recorded lectures as course material. I met more times per week for a 1 credit hour elective class than I did for this 3 credit hour mandatory business class. Hopefully you have good TA's because they are the only people you will see.
Her lectures are very poorly structured and require a lot of textbook reading. The class is also weighted 70% on 4 exams and the only other grades are homework.
Susan doesn't really do anything. Her lecture videos are short and barely gloss over how to do problems. She does not give averages on Carmen for exams which is suspicious in itself. The course is basically run by her TAs.
Horribly run class, especially for a core business course like this. Susan basically does nothing, the only time I saw her the whole semester was through a computer screen on her awful lecture videos that look they were recorded circa 2007. The whole course is taught through your TA, who also presented the material horribly.
class is horrible. online lectures and only recitations for actual learning. will mostly be learning on your own. exams can be difficult too. Susan Clark is a nice lady though who will help you but the class does suck
Never met Susan and her online lectures were unhelpful. TAs are the only saving grace, but even they were limited in that they only went over practice problems. Content was essentially self-taught and there were no grade curves. Some exam questions were extremely picky details from the textbook not highlighted in lecture/recitation.
professor clark is a very nice teacher and definitely cares a lot about her students. the class can be difficult as it covers a lot in a short time, but with practice you can easily understand the math and concepts. the tests are fair and a good portion of the grade is determined by homework.
Susan teaches everyone intro to finance the way Ty teaches everyone business presentations... though lecture videos. Overall her lectures are so confusing the first time you watch them SO GO TO EVERY RECITATION!!! I would rewatch her videos to study and I found that helpful. Overall she is okay just make sure you don't fall behind!
Never met Susan because her lectures are online. Lots of homework. Recommend reading textbook over her lecture videos if you are going to choose one. Recitation TA's made everything much easier to understand, and the TA's in the tutor room help just as much. Definitely read the textbook and utilize the resources you are given.
I really enjoyed this course. Prof Clark did a great job explaining concepts in the videos and I was prepared for exams from the recitation problems and textbook problems.
Online lectures are useless. Reading the textbook and going to recitation will save you. Only graded by attendance, weekly quizzes and exams. Even if you get 100% on all of the quizzes and attendance, you can still only get 2 questions wrong per exam (4 exams) to get an A.
Fully online lectures and in-person recitations. The online lectures are totally a mess, I couldn't learn anything from her videos. Textbook and recitations are much helpful.
No in-person lectures and the video lectures she posted did not help at all. Basically had to teach yourself the material, which is unfair for a core class. Highest exam grade from the two times I took this class was a 70%. Unfairly drops some HW and attendance which hurts most people. AVOID HER IF YOU CAN.
Susan is an absolutely terrible lecturer and the tests are a lot harder than the recitation problems. Overall this class is very tricky and I would avoid her if you could.
You'll be better off ignoring all the lecture videos and reading the textbook. The TA's were the only reason I was able to get by. She's retiring so maybe a blessing in disguise
Susan knows the content and is probably helpful if you need her, but her lecture videos are kinda useless. If you have good recitation people who give out study guides and can explain the content well, then you're set. Not much you can do to control that, though.
Terrible professor. The online textbook is horrible. Tests are auto-generated by MindTap. No in-person lectures. Instead, old COVID-19 era videos where the audio only comes out of one headphone. She outsources all the work she could possibly do as an educator. Why become a professor at this point, Susan?
Susan's online lectures are hit or miss, but the textbook and recitation sessions are essential. Lean on study resources like unstuck AI to supplement the course material. Exams are tough, so stay on top of the work. Overall, a challenging but manageable class.
