A lot of reading (although I hate it, so maybe it seems like more than it is). Fair grader, sees things from more than one perspective. Class gets really long and boring during discussions sometimes. Helpful.
Women and Popular Culture it the coolest class that this campus has. What other class can you **** about Britney and Christina, watch Pretty Woman and get an easy A
She was very nice and she tried to pick interesting subjects to write about. It was work (reading a lot and a few papers), but me as a terrible writer I didn't put much effort in and I surprisingly got a B!
You have to tell her what she wants to here...you can't write about your own opinion. When she tells you to change something and you do she wants something else. The class is really boring..but I've had worse.
Can be a tough grader, too picky on a lot of things, a lot of work especially towards end of the semester
She's a really nice lady and I will probably take her again. Her class is a little tough, you can't just write a lot and expect an A.
She is a very professional teeacher. You cant just write alot and expect an A. It takes a long process to finally finish a paper. The class time was pretty boring, but it couldve been worse. Shes a nice lady though and I'd take her again.
Worst class I have ever taken. You read extreemly depressing books and write papers on them. There are like 4 exams too. If you wish to practice the art of bullshitting, go ahead and take the class.
she only returned less than half of our papers. she grades on your regurgitation abilities instead of original thought. she is the ultimate authority on every subject, you aren't. test questions are stupid.
Like a lot of other profs as long as you agree with her point of view you can get a decent grade on papers. Opinions that oppose hers should be kept off tests and if so you'll get an easy A or B. Repeat the 3 course goals on every paper for an easy A.
She is extremely helpful and kind. She is very willing to help you or answer any questions. Don't take her if you want an easy A, but she is such a nice person.
awesome teacher. second time i've taken her for a class. got A's both time because i was enthusiastic and thoroughly enjoyed both classes. she really knows a lot. class time was fun and interesting most of the time. i hope to take her again
Susan is a great teacher. She knows what she is talking about and likes her job. All of the other bad reviews are because the people who gave them think that they don't need to work at school. She is extremely helpful even if her classes are sometimes boring.
Very bad professor. Lectures are extremely boring. On more than one occassion I wanted to jump out the window during class. Stickler on grading. Good luck taking English with her. And she is a huge feminist. Fella's stay away.
High expectations for students, but fair. If you agree with her you'll be golden, but if you're a guy, be prepared to be wrong -almost all the time. Trust me, women are always victims.

She is a great teacher! One of my favorites.
She's a really nice teacher who is willing to help whenever you have a question. Kinda hard on grading tests and papers but not too bad if you give some effort. Subjects may not be the most interesting but she does the best she can. Take her if you have the choice!
content of class isnt incredibly interesting, she is fairly reasonable and understanding, however she is a pretty big female chauvenist so watch waht you say and write
Are we talking about the same teacher? Why does everyone think she is hard?? I don't get it. If you want the grade handed to you, then don't take this class. She's no harder than any other teacher I have had. She knows her stuff and the material is very interesting.
Very knowledgeable teacher. Always was willing to entertain alternate viewpoints. Very helpful outside of class. One of my favorite Professors.
Lots of fun and a great sense of humor makes class enjoyable if you do the work.
Okay, I don't think she really knows how to grade papers. Every paper I got the same grade, and sometimes there were no comments and I still got a bad grade. I didn't really like her teaching style at all.
crutchfield rocks!
i thought she was an awesome teacher. the material was really interesting, and she's very nice and easy to talk to
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Assignments are not explained well and are completely irrelevant. She gives out a lot of just busy work and after taking the class I feel as if my writing has actually gotten worse. I would not recommend her to anybody.
Crutchfield's ENG200 class I took made me so much more open-minded than I have ever been as a student. Her course was based on Disability Rights and Handicaps in our society. VERY interesting and she is very passionate about the subject. My minor is Special Education now because of this professor. If you put in the effort, EASY A. SHE LISTENS GREAT
She was one of the worst teachers i ever had. My papers that she returned had like 1 or 2 comments on them, and she still gave me a D on it. When i fixed my mistakes on the paper and returned it, she corrected it again and gave me an F. The homework is stupid and just takes up your time. Dont take her ENG 110
Not really that demanding...do your homework (DUH) and you'll be fine. Pay attention to discussions and go to class. It's a breeze!
she is an awesome professor (and person). really.
Very passionate about disability culture and choose literature that makes it interesting to students as well. Read parts of books and a few short stories and also get to watch some movies (out of class). Minimal daily homework and really an interesting subject.
Fantastic instructor! Two thumbs enthusiastically up!
i was worried about taking her because i heard terrible things from friends who had her for 110. but as a 200 professor she did great! very interesting topic and well chosen literature. i learned so much more than i thought i ever would in a lit class.
Really knowledgeable about the subject matter. Facilitates class discussions well. I learned a lot. Plus she is really nice.
the disability information is interesting, makes you look at disability in a new way. discussion every day gets really boring but minimal homework besides some reading and 2 papers each worth 25% of your grade. she is nice professor and kind of a hard grader but overall i'd recommend her
She brings up some very interesting ideas surrounding disability culture and perceptions, but her papers have somewhat vague expectations and is a tough grader in turn; it's incredibly frustrating. She's incredibly nice though and I would probably recommend this class.
Discussions and readings were interesting and thought provoking. She was a difficult grader. I received a C on a paper of which she said was a "great paper".
I loved the class. She was a difficult grader, but the discussions were interesting. She wasn't the most knowledgeable about the subject, but she was obviously passionate about it. Favorite class of the semester. I'd recommend her.
I enjoyed most of the reading she assigns, but she is very opinionated on the topics. Don't disagree with her if you want a good grade, because she can only see one side of the issue (this is then reflected in grading, essays need to coincide with her expressed opinions)
This class is reading heavy and you have lots of discussions. This class is not very hard, but if you want an A you should read and watch all the stories/movies.
Great professor! Walked you through step by step for every assigned paper (which there aren't many of) and my Friday class was online! Nice lady. Glad I had her.
Prof. Crutchfield is very kind and helpful. She enjoys her work and does a good job leading a class.
She missed a lot of classes and never graded or gave me feedback on at least three papers. She was nice and the class itself wasn't awful. Only a few papers to write!
Lots of reading assigned, but it was a lit class. Required many movies to be watched on your own time and didn't give much time to complete certain readings. Professor Crutchfield appeared very unorganized though she does know the material, just needs to put more prep work in for class maybe. Had lots of cancelled classes as well.
Susan is an amazing woman. She is kind, caring, and thoughtful. Going into 110 I was like, This is going to be a breeze, wrong. She really makes you work hard for an A in this class, almost too hard for a 100 level course. Her lectures are irrelevant and SUPER BORING. Half of the time I have no idea what she is talking about.
I took the class online. There is a lot of work with on average two discussion posts a week with several comments as well. There is a two hour timed midterm, a 5 page paper final, and a 6-8 page research paper. She is available to help, and she responds to emails quickly. Overall, the class is a lot to keep up with, but I did learn a lot. Hardwork.
I took the class online, it is a lot of work for an online class with many discussion posts and replies each week. The class is worth about 2000 points and she is a very easy grader. You will need to read to write the discussion posts.
I took this class online. It was mainly discussion post points. Everything was weighted very strangely. Our syllabus quiz was worth 600 points, midterm 2000 and final 2000. There was also a final project where you had to either make an adaptation or analyze ones that were already made. Overall a pretty easy class as long as you are organized.
This class, or at least the way Dr. Crutchfield runs it, is incredibly confusing. Grading guidelines are unclear or absent, and with a few weeks left in the semester, I've yet to receive an actual grade on any of the work I've turned in. Prof. C runs this class very harsh for a 100 level, and lectures are often irrelevant to the in class work.
This is the second class I have taken with Crutchfield and for this class I am even more frustrated with her than I was in the last. She is a very tough grader that doesn't give much feedback as why you received the grade you did. She is also unreliable as she'll say she's going to do something a certain day or post a certain thing but never does
Really needs to work on grading assignments in a timely matter. She frequently says she will have a given assignment graded by a specific date but then rarely grades the assignment in time. Overall, a rather disorganized professor. Id avoid her if you can.
Dr. Crutchfield has engaging conversations in class, cares about her students, and is extremely accessible to students. She gives so many second chances with most assignments. If you're willing to work for an improved grade, she'll give you the opportunity to do so! I loved having her as a professor and am so grateful for getting to know her.
I really liked professor Crutchfield. She knows a lot about her area of expertise and is very passionate. There was a lot of homework and papers for this class (weekly journals, readings, group projects, 10 pg final paper + more). I also never recieved any timely feedback for any assignments which was frustrating.
I took Susan Crutchfield for ENG 200 as an online class. She was a fine teacher, grades fairly. She forgot to post the homework sometimes, but would usually extend the deadline if she forgot for a really long time. There's quite a bit of reading, but it's not terrible. Not really an easy A but it's not really a super hard A either.
I took this class online. She seemed like a fine professor, but often forgot to post assignments in time which was frustrating as she preached staying up to date. Also, we had a final research paper which she gave zero feedback for as to why we got a certain grade on it. Overall its a lot of work, but not the worst class I've taken.
I really enjoyed this class! Each week we had two discussion posts and additional assignments that the discussions were based on. The midterm and final are easy, as long as you have read all of the material and do the assignments. I absolutely love Professor Crutchfield! She really cares about her students and loves this course! (:
She is a wonderful person, but not the best teacher. Grades are due in a day, and I only had one thing graded. I am really sad because I expected more feedback, review, etc.. but I havent had much of that. I dont know how I couldve done better because I had little to no feedback. This has re-ruined English for me.
Just eh. Lots of busy work, but it is manageable. Midterms, exams, and papers are really heavily weighted. The last midterm was 1,500 points and the final paper is 2,000. She takes a year to grade everything so that is frustrating. If you do want to meet or need help, she will be accessible.
I was excited for a writing class as I love writing, however having this teacher, I did NOT want to come to class. She was very homophobic and almost ignored me and some specific fellow students in class due to it. Finally, she violated hippa rules and told the whole class about a health condition of mine. She makes me very uncomfortable being here
Do not recommend taking her classes. The course is fine but the teacher is horrible. She does not care about the well-being of certain students and only cares about ones she wants even after I had directly asked for help. She targets be due to being in a specific group
For a gen ed class the workload is almost unmanageable. You read a book every week and sometimes watch a movie outside of class. Her assignments are worth no points so they don't do anything for your grade. She is also snarky in class and has such boring lectures. Take a different professor if you can.
Do not take Eng110 with her. She does not use the normal grading system, instead she uses 'contract grading', which in theory sounds good but you do not know your grade for the entirety of the semester. She also assigns a lot of busy work and is constantly adding more criteria to assignments. Paper must be her way or the high way.
Assigns lots of reading and required movies - although you can get away without doing most of this work. Requires you to turn in busy work for 'credit' but it isn't graded. Few things are graded and they are graded on a tough scale, both with her actual grading and point system. Lectures were boring. Easy extra credit was provided at the end tho
Prof Crutchfield is very nice, caring and helpful! There are a lot of class discussions and readings but the homework outside of class is very manageable! Something we had to watch were a bit out there but otherwise she is really nice and cares for her students and wants to help them succeed.
She was great easy A
She is not clear about what she is expecting for her papers. She gives feedback on the rough draft and still takes off points for things in the final submission that she never mentioned when originally giving feedback. It feels impossible to do anything right in her class. She gets VERY behind in the schedule and takes months to grade papers.
She is very kind but sometimes her lectures can become long and boring. She is easy to talk to and is willing to give feedback on everything. A couple of extra credit opportunities throughout the semester! Easy to reach and connect with for office hours and is willing to set up times outside class as well. Definitely recommended!
I personally really like Dr. Crutchfield. She's very kind and approachable, you can tell she cares about what she teaches. Her class is pretty easy. Her expectations can be unclear but if you just ask her she'll help you. Contract grading is intimidating but I would prefer it to regular grading for this class. Overall, I would recommend her.
Dr. C used contract grading which in general I like but hers was very unclear. Her canvas was a mess and you never knew when things were due or even where to find them to turn things in. She was never very clear on her expectations and never put grades in so I had a 10% most of the semester. I do not recommend her if you aren't very organized.
The grading system for Professor Crutchfield makes the class really confusing and she's a really slow grader. My class didn't our first paper graded until the last week of class which makes it hard to fix corrections during finals. Overall you only write 3 papers and it wasn't that bad.
She was pretty easy, but her canvas was a little confusing with what days to turn in assignments. She sometimes forgets to remind you, so stay on top of it. Going to the writing center and having individual conferences with her is mandatory if you want an A.
I didn't like this class at all. She dragged class discussions and lectures, they were super boring and repetitive. Her class had no structure, even with the syllabus, I was never sure what we were doing in class, and she herself also never had a clear idea of what we would be doing in class. She is a harsh grader, I wouldn't take her class again.
Most of the class was lectures or group discussions and they got boring fast because no one participated. As much as I enjoyed the content, everything felt very dragged out. Overall, I would say that she was a good professor, but the class content was lacking. A fine class if you want a semi-easy A.
She assigns weekend work every weekend - practically papers. She claims it should only take an hour, but ends up being five paragraphs, which are only worth four points. If you want an A in the class, you actually can not turn anything in late. Her lectures are very basic and boring. She loves to read her own work quite a bit.
All discussion based from the student rather than the professor. Reading on your own and then class projects that have no rubric that are implied that you participate in group presentations that are not presentations from the professor. There is only the midterm and then final for grade with a few papers sprinkled throughout the semester.
Professor Crutchfield is very kind and a great teacher. She clearly loves what she teaches and will make you interested in it too. There's lots of reading and group talking but it's not horrible by any means. Overall, I would take her class if you can.
Contract grading, as long as you do the work and show up, you will get an A. It can be a lot of work at times, but she cancels in class meetings often so you can have time to work on assignments. Super sweet lady!!
Very kind and knowledgeable professor. Very passionate about the material and makes class engaging. Can be a little lecture-heavy and go on rants. Generous grader, as long as you do the work, you'll do well in the class.
Dr. Crutchfield's grading system is unclear. She claims the “contract grade” reflects growth as a writer, but an “A” just means completing more tasks from a checklist than a “B” student. It doesn't measure true writing talent, but rather the amount of work done. Well-praised papers from peers & writing center can be rejected and require rewriting.
Prof C's lectures were not the most interesting, but she is clearly very passionate about what she is teaching and cares about her students. Contract grading may seem annoying at first but it is a very straightforward way to an A. Outside of class she is very accessible and helpful, highly recommend.
Loved the time in her class. Very understanding. Grades fairly. Great professor to have as a freshman
Professor Crutchfield is an amazing professor and super friendly. Its alot of reading and content but all the books and movies she picked were super interesting and I enjoyed writing about them. You have to do all the reading and material assigned or you will not do good. Overall shes super understanding and reasonable and I would take her again!
She is very nice and uses a grading contract which I like because I know that if I complete all the work I will get the grade I wanted.
took this online. entirely discussion posts and responses with 2 exams and 1 project. not difficult just a lot of work. easy grader. sweet lady.
