Attendance was not mandatory but if you miss class when she collects homework or gives a quiz you cannot make it up. New teacher so she wasn't the best but with time she should get better. Homework is important, if you do the homework and read the textbook you should do well. Tests are multiple choice.

CPA, knows her stuff, 2 tests, final, quizes and group projects. Do your HW and you will do fine in the class.

GREAT PROFESSOR!! she explains accounting so well and it actually turns out that i really enjoy accounting now, really knows what she is talking about and has lots of in class worksheets that help you understand the material, tests are straightforward and if you do your homework regularly and don't miss class you will end up liking the class a lot!

Most certainly the best Fin. Acct. professor. That's not to say that the course is easy but she is always willing to help (see her in office hours). Always (always!) do the homework (every night) and go to class. The course itself is tough no matter who you get but Ferguson knows what she's doing.

You are going to have to do some work for this, but she teaches the material very well and understably so it shouldn't be too hard.

Not what she's made out to be. Probably one of the better 242 teachers but this was her first time with 242 so it's obvious she struggled with the class structure. Fergueson is awesome! She is my favorite teacher at JMU!Her test aren't to bad as long as you study. I am actually thinking about changing my major to accounting because of this class! Take Fergueson for 241 and 242!

Look for alternatives. We have a MINIMUM of roughly 2 hours of homework before every class. This helps to understand the material a bit, other teachers teach the same material without all of it. She puts very hard examples on tests, a B is attainable, but an A is extremely unlikely. Pretty moody, but I must admit she's very helpful.

She's amazing! She's definitely not easy but I learned the material inside and out and did every homework assignment and I've gotten A's on all the tests and I'm prepared for the final.

Professor Ferguson is a great Professor. She is extremely helpful and will go out of her way to help you. She gives a whoooooole lot of hw but in the end it really helps you do well. They key to doing well is completing and understanding your hw and asking questions if you don't. The class starts easy but progressively gets harder. Take her!

Ferguson has been the best teacher I have had at JMU. She goes out of her way to help her students. Although she gives a lot of homework, it is worth a huge part of your grade which helps you in the long run. The final was a breeze because she taught us so well. Take her if you would like to learn and put the time in to do well.

She is not an easy professor by any means, but she makes sure that her students know the material. I feel prepared for the final, but she does make you work harder than other accounting professors. If you don't mind doing homework and want to actually understand accounting, I would take her. She's really not that bad if you pay attention and try.

Makes you work hard for a decent grade. Not a bad professor, just expect to work A LOT. Class can be a bit confusing especially at the pace which she sets in lectures. Plus: her classes always seem to do very well on the final.

This class is hard. And she makes you work hard for your grade. There's a lot of HW and you HAVE to do it to understand acct. However, she gives 6 tests and a ton of online quizzes. The project is a BEAR and is worth basically nothing, but she really prepares you for the final. Do your work and getting a C isn't too hard.

While i was in class i hated it, but looking back i'm glad i had the ferg. i feel i was much more prepared for the departmental final than other classes. it's a lot of work, but you definitely learn the stuff.

oh the fergggg. great teacher, but she's definitely a morning person (she says so many many times). she'll be bouncing off the walls and making the class crack up in her 8 and 9am classes, but lost her energy by the afternoon sections. good teacher, but a lot of work. make sure you DO THE HOMEWORK and don't fall behind. oh and she's cute.

took ferguson during her 1st and 2nd semester of teaching She took it easier than the rest but ive heard she adjusted to prepare real accounting students. If you're seriously considering accounting as a major, take her or nichols. These are the two best,since they prepare you for whats to come. mgmt and mrkt, stay away. COB hates you guys anyway.

this class is hard.. you either get accounting or you don't. if your going to be a business major, take her. She extremely prepares you for the final and even for cob 242. people say shes unfair.. but really they are just mad they got a bad grade. do your work and you'll pass.. she curves if she knows you try ( curved my b minus to b plus)

went kind of fast, but very good at explaining things. office hours were super helpful!! 6 tests were a bit much, but the fact that tests only covered 2-3 chapters was really nice.

Tough teacher although very helpful in and outside of class. Anything that you get wrong on the test is your own fault, nothing on exams should be a surprise. She is harder than other accounting teachers but very helpful and a great teacher. I took her for both 241 and 242

Class was very difficult at first. Go to her office hours after tests! You get two bonus points every time. Also, volunteer! She gives a lot of little extra credit so take advantage of it. Although I only got a B in the class, I was very well prepared for the final and get a perfect score.

Shes fair both in difficulty and grading. I don't like her teaching style which is to give homework on new material before lecturing the lesson in class. I think the style confuses & frustrates students especially in the beginning of the semester. She also prepares you for the final. Part 2 is just like the 241 final. multiple choice 2 hours

I had Ferguson for 241 & 242 and she has been my favorite teacher at JMU so far. She is very organized and teaches in a way for her students to understand. She can be very fun, eccentric and out-going if they class is. Yes the topic is hard but she teaches it to make it easy. Love Her! In my opinion she is the best accounting teachers!

She is really helpful when it comes to clarifying the information for you. The class isn't too hard since you basically teach yourself straight out of the book. She's really nice and makes the class as interesting as accounting can get.

You can tell she knows her stuff but something definitely doesn’t translate from her teaching and the connects to the test. On average the class got about a D on the tests and she wouldn’t curve. Most of the class is struggling to keep a C. I think she is a great teacher but her test are way too hard.

Yes, Ferguson makes you put in more work than most of the other accounting teachers, but in my opinion it pays off. They only way you will ever get good at accounting is by practicing it and reading the book on your own. She knows what she is talking about and can teach it clearly. She gives extra credit throughout that gave me an A- over a B+

If you are not willing to put this class as your top priority, I suggest taking someone else. She is a great professor, but you have to study above and beyond what you think you should study because her tests are very difficult! Homework after every class that usually takes at least an hour and a half. I am taking her again for 242.

She really cares about the class and puts A LOT of time into preparation, but her teaching style is not ideal for most students. She doesn't work out any problems on the board/ explain concepts for you to take notes. We do these demos where u just fill in answers. It was difficult to grasp concepts this way

Prof. Ferguson is a good teacher but her tests are almost impossible. Class average hasn't been more than a 70 on any of the tests and she doesn't curve or adjust her teaching methods accordingly. She just moves on to the next chapter. I'm not one to fail classes but I'm struggling to pass this one. Take at your own risk.

She is a great teacher. She puts a lot of time and gives you countless practice problems. Only way to get good at accounting is if you practice. Her tests aren't easy but if you've studied you'll be fine. If you don't plan on putting a lot of work into the class I'd take someone else - at least 2 hours of homework for every class period. 8 exams

Ferguson is a good teacher, simply because she loves the subject and she makes class interesting. However, her tests are much harder than class assignments and homework. The test average is always in the 60s. I spent 20+ hours/week studying and will probably receive a D+. That's not acceptable for those trying to get into COB. Take someone else!

This class was my top priority. Ferguson expects a lot out of her students. There's 3 connect assignments every week - expect to spend about an hour or 2 on each, more if it's on new material as you have to learn it yourself before she goes over it in class. USE YOUR TEXTBOOK! If you put in the effort you will get the grade you deserve.

Ferguson is extremely knowledgeable and really knows what she's talking about! You have to make this class a priority to do descent. There is a ton of Connect assignments, so you're basically doing homework and studying for that class 24/7! Take if you're an Accounting major, otherwise it's not worth all the work!

This is a hard class. There's no getting around that, but Professor Ferguson is hands down one of the best professors for this subject. My roommates have two other professors for 241, and they're failing. I'm going to be screwed if I don't get Professor Ferguson for 242.

Ferguson may be really tough, but she's always willing to help students, especially in office hours. If you get behind on the work your screwed though so attendance is basically mandatory. Gives tests every 2 weeks so you have a lot of chances to save your grade if 1 of them doesn't go well.

Gives 7 tests plus the final exam, 1 test around every 2 weeks. The average grade on these tests ranged from 60-70 and she never curves or does anything to change her teaching habits. Her tests are the hardest in the department and you will spend 2-3 hours a night working on graded homework. you need a 65 on the homework to come to class. good luck

Hardest class I've taken so far, but it's worth it. Mandatory attendance and an hour+ of homework every night. If you don't pass the homework, you aren't allowed to attend the next class. 241 is hard, but this class is harder, which preps you for the final very well. Tons of people will drop this class in the first month, but stick it out.

Ferguson is a clear, smart, and hardworking professor. Lots of tests and homework, but also many opportunities for extra credit. She wants students to succeed and while her tests are fairly hard, it prepares you to do very well on the final. Just put in the work and you will learn a lot.

Professor Ferguson has completely changed her ethics course compared to prior semesters. The class was very enjoyable. You will learn a lot, questioning your own beliefs along the way. The class still requires quite a bit of effort with frequent assignments and papers, but she is very flexible with the schedule if everyone has other ACTG tests.

Ferguson's class was hard but that's to be expected. Must attend class. Homework every night but it was helpful in understanding the material. She is funny (sometimes) and overall nice, just a little intense. No textbook - it's all online on connect. 7 tests and a final so a little room for error.

Ok, I don't think people are stressing the extra credit enough here. In our class, we couldve brought up our grade 9% if we did all the EC!!! Participate and do what her syllabus says for EC. Also, trust me to work hard on the HW's, as that will be your buffer grade at the end. The tests are hard, but spending alot of time on HW will end up helping

expect homework 3 times a week and they will take at least an hour to do it. However, everything she assigns are helpful for in class exercise. I actually enjoyed her class and by the end of semester, you know everything for the final. 7 tests (2 chapters/test), drop lowest one (have to 50) and replace final test point with the 7th test grade.

ACTG majors take her. She is the best 242 teacher at JMU. This class is one of the hardest of the lower level courses but if you show up to class and participate there are enough ec opportunities to pull your grade up. As for her tests, if you are able to stay in the high 70's or low 80's you will do well on the course wide final exam.

Ferguson was great. Tests are tough and learning is all online, but if you do ALL the online homeworks it should be no problem. I took the first test without doing the connect homework and failed it. I did the homework for the rest of the tests and got B/A's on them all. Shes a great teacher and always willing to help.

One of the best 241 teachers. She has power points for every chapter so she makes sure she covered everything. Give loads of practice which is VERY helpful. She's really nice and easy to talk to and she wants you to do well. 241 isn't easy but she makes it very manageable. Highly reccomend taking her.

Ferguson is the best 241 professor at JMU. It's a lot of hard work, but you'll learn more with her than any other teacher. She's super passionate about accounting, which is always a good thing. She is strict, yeah, but that's so you learn! Even though I'm not into accounting at all, I still enjoyed the class. Definitely would recommend her.

Probably the best 241 teacher at JMU. I really enjoyed her class and actually learned. She offers a lot of extra credit. You have an exam about every 2 weeks on 2 chapters only. Definitely read the syllabus before walking into her class. There is a lot of homework but they definitely prepares you for the exam. Cant say enough good things about her

Ms. Ferguson is the bee's knees. I took her for both 241 and 242 and loved her both times. She really helps you understand accounting, as opposed to just memorizing journal entries and financial statements. I would take her 100 times over if I was an accounting major. She cares about her students and is a lot sweeter than what she sometimes seems.

Ferguson does everything in her power to help you understand the material. She is the kindest, most understanding professor. Gives lots of examples and goes over answers together. If you do poorly (as i did) it's due to your own lack of effort. If you do everything she says, you're guaranteed an A-B grade. Take her!!!

I had Professor Ferguson for Maymester, but she was a solid choice overall for 242. The class is easier than 241, but still not a walk in the park. Most of the class is her giving you worksheets which she then goes over and class. Any questions you have, she will clearly explain to you. Nice lady and good professor overall. I recommend her.

Ferguson is such a good prof for this course because she is super knowledgeable and just wants everyone to love accounting. Expect 2-3 hours of homework a night (not just on class days), but all the practice pays off bc its super similar to the tests. lots of graded assignments which is nice to boost your test grade. make sure you read the book!!!!

I was hesitant to take Prof. Ferguson because of her very "eh" reviews. She was a great professor and lectures were clear and helpful. Lots of homework, but it helps prepare you for the tests. The tests can be challenging for some but the homework does a good job of preparing you for them.

I took Professor Ferguson for Ethics and it was a very easy class with good lectures. Be warned, she did remove a lot of items from the syllabus so course could be more difficult later on. Lots of reading quizzes and in class participation matters since class discussion is a huge part of the class

This class wasn't nearly as difficult as people are making it out to be. She gives the homework because in order to understand accounting you have to practice it frequently (studying the night before an exam won't help you). The online homeworks are based on the textbook WITH clear examples. This class is a breeze if you put in some effort.

If you can do the hw you'll pass the tests. Practicing material frequently is KEY to passing. Ferguson is always accessible over email and office hours and happy to help. If you frequently skip class or need to be on your phone in class then you're probably not doing college right. This class is easy if you do what she suggests and complete assignments on time. People saying she didn't teach clearly didn't take advantage of resources available. If you have at least 5 brain cells and put in basic effort you'll pass.

I enjoyed her class and do not think she deserves the criticism she is receiving. She explicitly states that the class does take effort but if you do all the homework and practice, the class is not bad. The tests every other week are actually nice, I think, so you only have to focus on a couple chapters at a time. Read the syllabus!

I usually do not post reviews of professors, however, Professor Ferguson has received an immense amount of backlash after this semester. Taking 18 credits and finishing my major, I was still able to pass her course with a 97%. I do believe this is in reach of other people and that work was not put in by others. Do take her because she is great!

Professor Ferguson was a great accounting professor. The people who gave her disrespectful and negative reviews didn't understand accounting and needed someone to blame. She tried her best to get the concepts across and gave the class multiple opportunities to thrive. Accounting is hard, and that is not her fault!!

241 is a tough class in general. She gives you enough resources to do well as long as you are willing to put in the work. Shes available outside of class and willing to work with you if you show you care

The best 241 professor. Her tests weren't the easiest, lots of bait answers in her tests. However, if you study the concepts of the book and do all the work she assigns you will pass. Really helpful office hours even sent me a sheet with all the concepts I struggled with.

Accounting can be a difficult subject to study, but at least for me, she has made it so much easier. She gives time in class to work through problems and is more than willing to help and answer questions.

However, she gives you weekly quizzes and one homework assignment if that a week. She also posts weekly lectures basically giving you all the resources you need. I'd say she adequately prepares you for the final. I don't have the best grade, but it's not her fault, accounting sucks let's be real.

Attendance isn't required but if you're on the edge of the next letter she'll bump you if you went to most classes. Weekly quizzes but they're pretty easy. No real "tests" but there's 2 multichapter quizzes for half the class material. She's really nice and wants to help students actually succeed. Overall a pretty good choice for 241

I advise gathering an understanding of the first five chapters before starting the course. It will help you a lot!. She has a packet for each chapter PRINT THE PACKETS OUT & AND COMPLETE THE ENTIRETY OF IT! The packets give you an idea of the chapter quizzes. Also, do as many practice problems as possible and go to Office Hours if you get stuck.

I only recommend her if it's your 2nd time taking 241. I got a D the 1st time but now I'm prob getting an A-. With that being said, you NEED to have a understanding of 241 when you begin or you will fall behind. I really liked the way she teaches with the videos, coursepack, & connect. She gives many ways to succeed you just need to put in the work

I feel like she gets a bad rep because she is strict but she gives many opportunities to do well if you do the work. Watch the videos, read the book, do the extra connect work, & do the questions on the website. If you don't do that & do bad, it's your fault, not hers. But ik she can be a bit condescending so I understand why people don't like her

Genuinely the best professor I've had. These reviews are not accurate. Ferguson respects her students, and the coursepack has all the materials you need to pass. You have to put in the work to get a good grade, but she gives you all the materials and will help you along the way. I learned a lot in her class, and she was helpful in office hours.

Professor Ferguson was the only reason I enjoyed this class. Accounting is not a fun class, unless you are interested in it, and she sets up her lass in a way that makes you interested in it. She cares about her students and is always willing to answer questions or provide clarification. She has weekly quizzes and connect homework.

Prepare for a lot of work but that should be expected with 241. She provides a tons of resources to succeed and cares about her students. Complete the pink book practice problems and do the connect extra practice problems and you will finish with a B at the bare minimum. No exams, the class is broken down into weekly chapter quizzes.

Honestly a lot of the negative reviews probably just did not keep up with coursework. If you watch the videos and do the practice for homework (Max 45 mins before each class) you should be fine. If anything is confusing she does another rundown of the videos during class and answers any questions. Just don't skip the videos. Also has extra credit.

Most of the other reviews most likely did not keep up with the work. Although this is a hard class she breaks it down so you understand the key concepts and if you don't understand something she is always willing to go over it. It is very test-heavy though, about 7 tests I think but there's a chance to retake one. You'll get an A if you keep up!

VERY hard prf. She is kind but she is very strict,will not let you leave during clas if she sees a phone, shell call you out, which is fair. Bi-weekly quizzes, I spent upwards of 30+ hours on this course per week. Read the textbook and do the COB 241 tests over and over, go to group tutoring and youll get an A or B. If u don study a ton, wont pass

She supplies videos to complete notes at home that she then goes over in class--if you don't like this style you won't do well w her. Coursepack(HW) due and checked almost every class. Attendance graded. Coursebook required. Lengthy HW on connect website. Tests are difficult but so is 241 as a whole. Very knowledgeable prof, doesn't deserve hate

I'm a C student and got a C+ the first time I took this class with her (I showed up 50-60 percent of the time). After giving her class another shot and a little more effort, I found that she teaches the concepts in a very digestible way. My main recommendation would be to DO THE MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS IN THE TEXTBOOK.

She's actually a really nice lady, the quizzes aren't hard either. Make sure to do the extra practice and get a really good understanding of the material conceptually and you'll be fine. Tons of extra credit opportunities so take advantage. Overall way better than I expected.

Professor Ferguson's 241 class is tough, but if you put in the work, you'll learn a lot. The homework and quizzes are challenging, but using resources like the textbook, study groups, and tools like unstuck ai can really help boost your understanding.

Wow what a turn around. Came in hearing she was so hard, and I really had to lock in, but this has genuinely been such a great experience. While tests are in the exam center, she has curved every test so far and my grade is doing great. I highly recommend for 241, she has turned into a wonderful teacher. SO much extra credit.
