She will make you learn for sure! She is so helpful and clear, and will actually make you a better writer. Would take her again in a heartbeat. Do the pre-writing assignments, listen to what she wants from you on you essays(4 total), and you are set. Loved her!

Definitely take her class. She really helps you learn and lets you revise your papers and helps you understand. There is no final, just a final paper to hand in. Definitely recommend her!

She is an awesome professor! She makes the class engaging and you are always working. There are 4 papers total but just make sure you follow her criteria EXACTLY as she wants it and you'll be successful. There are pre-writes and revisions along with the essays as well so if you do the work and follow her guidelines you'll pass.

She is very nice and friendly. There are pre-writing homework before each paper and four papers totally. She is very clear and helpful. Highly recommend her!

Professor Field has the wisdom of a professor, but the personability of a classmate. Even if I never take another one of her classes, I'm sure I'll stop by her office. I can't think of anyone else I'd rather have peer review one of my essays.

Took Engl 101 Best teacher I've had at the university so far. If you want your moneys worth for a course, you'll get it here. She makes you a overall better writer and pushes you. At times she can be overly sarcastic but she is such a great professor! You won't find a better English professor here!

Prof field is at times snarky and sarcastic but overall she gives thorough feedback and wants to see you put in the work. No phones in her class whatsoever but class time is honestly important in her class. Always turn assignments in on time! She's enthusiastic about her work and that's reflected in her teaching

She is such an awesome professor! This is the only class I don't dread walking into. She is so enthusiastic and sarcastic and she actually teaches. She explains all of the assignments and I personally feel like I have improved as a writer. I am looking forward to taking future courses with her. I learn something new with every essay we write.

Susan is by far my favorite professor, she truly cares for each student and wants to see each student achieve. She really made me enjoy attending an early morning class. She also is very flexible with office hours and reminds each student that even after taking her class she is always a resource. I couldn't have asked for a better professor!

She is so nice and funny. Brings in snacks occasionally. Gives great feedback, but make sure you apply it because she isn't going to be specific every time. She highlights the categories at the end of the papers tell you what needs to be worked on. Make sure you use as much detail as possible.

I left her class knowing more about writing and comprehension than any other English class I have taken so far. There was almost always homework but assignments all lead up to the bigger picture and are a way to force you to understand the info. She is very nice and understanding about other classes.

Susan is a great professor. Her class actually helps you in creating useful writing skills for the rest of college. As long as you try in her class (do your homework, journals, writing assignments) you'll be completely fine. She is a tough grader on essays but gives you at least two weeks to write them. No tests or quizzes in the class.

I loved this class. Susan is hilarious and super sarcastic which makes class time fun. She can be a relatively tough grader when it comes to essays and other assignments but it's only to help you become a better writer. She doesn't take any bs but if you show up and participate in her class the mutual respect is obvious.

I loved her for my first year english class. She's very sweet, understanding, and helpful. Going into college I was worried to get scary professors but she is nothing of that! She gives great feedback and helps you strive to become a better reader and writer. I definitely wont forget the what the term, "exigence" means and how to use it.

Shes an understanding professor, especially due to remote learning. Shes a tough grader, so if you need extra help with papers make sure you visit her office hours as shes pretty flexible. She also doesnt grade participation just by speaking up as well. Overall, shes a nice professor and made me think about writing differently.

You really have to put in effort to get the most out of the class. A lot of reading that contribute to a few essays. I left the semester with a lot of new knowledge and understanding. Although a lot of work she is really great and wants you to do well!

She is awesome! She is super kind and is always willing to help if YOU reach out, she is obviously not a mind reader and you have to make the effort to keep a good grade. She is approachable! Email her whenever and she answers fairly quick. She gives good feedback on your work. I have never had to question what she meant by something, 10/10!

Prof. Field was amazing! I took a seminar with her and she was great. There's definitely a high workload, but if you stay on top of your work you'll be fine. There's many grading opportunities, so even though there's a lot of work, you have a lot chances to keep/bring your grade up. She cares a lot abt her students too, so reach out if necessary

At first, I did not like her, but she showed herself to be warm and caring. She reminds me a lot of how my high school teachers cared about students. She is a tough grader/love and she will take you for a ride in her class. However, dedicate time to understanding what she is teaching and you can do great! GREAT at lots of feedback, love her!

Such a good teacher, she cared so much for her students. Lots of homework but manageable. Not too tough of a grader but definitely need to put the work in. I had a B- in her class and I had a meeting with her about raising my grade to an A because of the hard work I put in and she did. Super caring

- the work was entirely manageable and the homework wasn't too bad either - the concept of labor based grading is really cool but if you commute and find issues with traffic, it might be a problem - super responsive and gives great feedback on assignments so you know exactly what you need to change

Susan is a great professor, willing to listen to your needs, and her grading system is fair. If you follow the criteria, you get credit. That being said... it can feel like a LOT of work, particularly the reading, the level of which is best described as "higher level." Attendance and communication are key to success.

This was a 4 credit class, so there was more work assigned but it was still manageable. She gives really good feedback to improve your writing, which is neat. I suggest staying on top of readings/hw and making sure you're meeting her specific criteria to get the most points. I'd also recommend this first year seminar for education majors.

Professor Field was an AMAZING teacher. She uses a system called Labor-Based Grading - basically, the grade you get is based on the work and effort you put in. There's a very clear criterion for every homework assignment, and as long as you hit the criteria, you'll get full points for the assignment. She cares a lot for her students 10/10 professor

This class involves a LOT of homework. In the beginning it seems easy but the class becomes increasingly more difficult. Absences heavily effect your grade. This professor uses a "labor based" grading criteria. There is a very intense writing assignment at the end of the semester so be prepared to do a lot of writing and reading for that as well.

As long as you meet the criteria you can get a good grade. She's very supportive of students and provides excellent feedback. Homework can take a while to complete, but it does help with future assignments so it's not completely useless. It would just be nice if it didn't take as long as it does.

Mrs. Field is a very nice person and truly cares for her students. She constantly checks up with students and is very willing to give extensions if requested. I see a lot of people complain about her labor-based grading but if you do the work and actually put effort in you will get a good grade. A lot of people do the bare-minimum and complain.

SUPER SWEET. i love this woman. her work is very reasonable, it may seem like a lot but its all to prepare you for projects, future homework assignments, etc. 100000% recommend her as a professor.

It's honestly a lot of work, especially if writing/reading isn't your strong suit.(1 hr/day) However, she is a fantastic professor who tries to give as much leniency, I've learned a lot and it's useful in future writing. She grades based on labor, basically just meet the criteria. Grades: 1 big project, 2 small ones, classwork every time you meet.

Professor Field is an outstanding English professor. She teaches you so many new strategies in writing and is always encouraging to your success. She does provide a lot of homework but they will all be to your own benefit if used correctly. If you put in effort and time you will do good.

Susan Field is amazing, she goes by labor grading, which essentially means your grade is reflected based on the effort you put in, which is fair. Susan is really nice and understanding! I explained my family situation and she gave me an extension on my project at the time, walking me through everything. My only gripe is that there is homework and classwork every class, and she is a picky grader. Attendance is mandatory, and late work is taken for half credit. Ask her for help if necessary!

Every assignment you do contributes to an upcoming essay/project. Gives very good feedback and is always available to answer any questions. Really nice and chill teacher. Definitely recommend.

Professor Field is awesome! She is super caring and is very accessible outside of the classroom. She follows labor based grading and if you follow the directions you will get a 100%. Everything we do is for a purpose, you will learn so much but wont dread the class. We have lots of readings but they are not difficult and quite interesting!

I had her for Honors Engl 101. She uses labor based grading, so it is VERY easy to pass the class as long as you follow instructions. We did have homework almost every night, but it's not difficult, just time consuming. She is super caring and responds to emails quickly. I only gave her a 4 bc I did get bored by the end of the semester.

Susan is a great person! She is very caring about her students and she has a lot to say. She does give a lot of work but it is based on labor based grading which is great. She doesn't force her students to talk if they aren't comfortable and is willing to accomodate for others. I was honestly shocked to see such negative reviews.

Don't listen to the complaints. Susan is intelligent, friendly, and accessible. If you don't show up and don't do the work, you won't do well. Yes there is homework most classes, but if you do it, even if it's a terrible job, she marks for completion, so she's really not a tough grader.
