She's aight, I got a 100 in the class. A few easy quizzes tests can be tricky if you aren't used to short answer questions.

She's willing to work with you. She gives tons of partial credit. Her lectures are confusing but one on one she makes sense.
why, this teacher so easy, the easier the teacher the less you learn, remember that.
she just reads the overhead... boring
She's really nice and approachable. She's always more than welcome to help. Study her notes and do the homework and you should be all set.
Every day there was some kind of mistake on her overheads. Practice exams are completely different than the actual exam. I had to teach almost everything to myself. Was completely unprofessional when it came to getting extra help.
she's helpful and very nice
Very nice, very accommodating. Lectures slightly dull, but its of little consequence.
Always smiling
NICEST WOMAN YOU'LL EVER MEET. Go to class because her notes can be a little unclear. She's very fair and really cares about students. She'll never try to trick you in any way. She's more than willing to help outside of class, so take advantage of that.
SWEETEST WOMAN EVER TO TEACH. ALWAYS SMILES AND IS SO HAPPY. TESTS ARE HARD BUT SO IS CHEMISTRY TO SHE CAN'T HELP IT. IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE CHEM THEN SIGN UP FOR HER CLASS OR ELSE YOU WILL REGRET IT!
An exceptionally, rather nice teacher, always in a pleasant mood, always smiling, which is a plus. Since I have prior knowledge of the chemistry taught, I managed to do very well in the course. However, someone with very little or no knowledge of chemistry may realllly struggle in this course...
Very nice Professor who tries to help the students out. Tests are pretty easy, quizzes are even easier. You get the old exams to review which are similar to the ones youll take in class. I suggest taking her if one needs an science credit.
Fairly easy chemistry class. Makes lots of numberical mistakes in her notes so watch out. Exams and quizzes not overly hard. She's very helpful if you go to her with questions.
This was the worst class that i've ever taken in my life. She is suppose to be the head of the department and she cant even teach. Half of the time her slides had mistakes on them so imagine maybe she couldn't even do the work herself. She did not teach at all!! Warning do not take this class with h
Very willing to help, but isn't great at explaining things. She needs her notes or solutions maunel to work out problems. But she will always be there for you, and if very flexible. She is a very sweet woman
Very nice. teaches with powerpoint. quizzes are easy and they help boost your grade. very easy grader on exams.
She's very sweet and easy to talk to. You must check her work as she makes mistakes on her slides from time to time, but nothing major. If you pay attention, her teaching is very straight-forward and logical. The tests aren't extrememly easy, but if you study you'll do fine.
SHE WILL MAKE YOU DUMBER!!! the only reason i thought it was easy b/c i read the book, THE WHOLE THING, and i love chem, but she explains badly + makes it more vague. doesnt answer questions well either. i'd put on my headphones whenever i'd go, just to copy the notes, but they ARE available online, one good thing. i hated her though, worst
Dr. Geldart is an awesome professor. She is very caring of her students and will always help anyone out, even if it puts her behind in her own work. Make sure you attend the lectures, since the slides she uses have a few mistakes on them. If you make an effort to talk to her @ her office hours, she gets to know you and will help as much as she can.
Sweet woman. She cares a lot about her students. She will help you as much as possible, so visit her in office hours! She's pretty clear and willing to re-explain her slides if there's something you don't understand. Her exams are pretty hard but if you study you'll get good grades. She scales her tests too. WARNING: DON'T TAKE IT OVER THE SUMMER!!
Not a good teacher unless you already understand chemistry. recommend taking chem II with johnson over the summer if you can!
I feel dumber for having taken that class. A trained chimp could teach it better
Everything is explained in the powerpoint slides she shows in class. Notes are very clear and easy to understand. Sometimes she goes too fast, but the slides are always available online in the library reserves! VERY easy quizzes. EASY exams.
very cool class...just not for 8 am... haha
I don't actually go to the class but the online notes are very good
geldy!
She is the worst teacher ever! She doesn't explain the anything and the only notes are powerpoints, and she goes way too fast.
i have to take this class as an engineer....its at 8am. she lulls you to sleep because she doesnt teach anything she just reads off her GD powerpoints...any you can get them online...its like y even go to class...ill tell you y....because you will fail..worst teacher ive had in my life.
She is a terrible teacher. She teaches 100% off powerpoint slide shows and she screws up about 1 in every 5 slides. Her exams are not as easy as everybody says. absolutely terrible.
She isn't too bad of a teacher. Drops 2 quizzes and a test grade. The quizzes are easy because she shows you a perfect example either the class before or right before the quiz. However, her tests are another story. Very difficult, and she refuses to scale. Says something like "I can't let everyone pass with a B...". Overall, she's OK.
The class isn't a piece of cake, you're going to have to work. However she's always there during her office hours for extra help and will always go back on her lecture if you don't understand something. The Exams are a bit tough (open ended usually 24 questions) but she's a fair grader and if you study you'll probably do fine in the course.
Would be a better teacher if she wasn't so inflexible. Doesn't care about students at all.
She is okay, but the slides make it very difficult to understand how she does problems / concepts / etc.

Dr. Geldhart is a great teacher, granted you will actually have to learn the material. If you just need to take CHM 101, you are probably better off taking a different teacher, because her exams can be somewhat challenging but if you need to take any chem courses beyond 101, definetely take Geldhart!
She is THE ONE you need for chem 101 and 112. Always there to help students. Mostly she knows what she's talking about. She answers every single (even really basic) questions in class, but never condescending. Some people complain her class is hard, but believe me, better than any other chem teacher in this school.
Her tests can be a little challenging, but nothing impossible. She is so nice and understanding. She will make time for you. People who say bad things about her are stupid. They have less than 3 brain cells. You really have to actively pay attention to slides, not just stare at them. Practice book problems! Best teacher for CHM 101 & 112!
Prof. Geldart is one of the best chemistry professors at URI. I ended up taking her class twice-and you know what I learned? If you go to class, really pay attention, and then do the problems in the textbook, an A is acheivable. And, she is very kind and will truly help you in any way. She wants you to succeed! But its up to you to put in the work!
She is by far the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. She makes it very difficult learning any new information. All she does is read off of powerpoint slides you print out yourself. I have not had chemistry for five years and do not rmember much. I taught myself everything I learned in this class. Grades are scaled heavily though.
It's a waste of time going to class. all she does is read the notes from her laptop, which you can actually print yourself. And her test are very challeging, I wouldn't advise anyone to take her class.
The BEST to have for 101/112. Is always available for extra help and is the NICEST professor in the department. Exams are fairly tough but she gives tons of partial credit if you write down anything that even remotely makes sense. She gives easy weekly quizzes, 2 free attendance quizzes and drops the lowest exam grade. You can't go wrong!
She was very rude towards me when I asked her for help, and she never made anything clear.
Dr. Geldart is a straight up genius. Thats a good thing and a bad thing. She overcomplicates the lectures. I found the book to be easier to understand. Take this class if you speak chemist or feel like using the book.
she is a fair teacher. her grades are scaled. i had her in the summer and we had our 2 lowest quizzes and lowest test dropped. she is there to help you and willing to meet with you if you can not attend office hours.
Exemptions for final available! (If you do well enough on the unit exams.) Quizzes weekly but most are easy. Free quizzes for certain days (normally before vacations), just show up. HW is not collected (book not too important), but good for practice. Easy to talk to/ask questions. Can sympathize with students. Possibly the best for CHM 101.
Not a very good teacher, but will do whatever she can to help you. Drops lowest of three exams, drops 2 lowest quizzes, 2 free attendance quizzes. The book was EXTREMELY helpful, and accounted for my passing the class. Do all the problems in the book and you can get an easy (but time consuming) A.
Not good for visual/hands-on learners - you'll have to learn from the labs and the book. She tends to just keep plowing through the math without re-touching on the big picture of what's happening. She'll give all the help you need outside of class, though.
good teacher. she gets the facts in and basically tells you all the answers to the quizzes so its mostly her exams that are rough. dont overthink them.
this teacher is SO HARD. shows no mercy and a really, really tough grader.
i had a hard time in the class... i just didn't get her notes and the way she words the problems on the exams was hard to me, personally... but others really like her and i've heard she's the best for 101 and 112.. just try hard and i'm sure everything will turn out well. HER PRACTICE EXAMS HELP OUT A LOT!
She is a great professor. if you ever have a question about something dont hesitate to go to her office... she will explain it in a nice way that you will understand and she never makes you feel stupid! its a hard class, but its chemistry. its supposed to be hard. i had her for 101 and 112 and would take her classes again in a heartbeat.
She is very elaborate with the material and an OK grader. She is extremely helpful, especially before tests. She randomly gives two free quiz grades if you are present and drops your lowest test grade. It is not impossible to get an A, just make sure you understand EVERY concept.
unclear teacher. she teaches off her powerpoint notes which are available online. concepts are confusing, and so is she. she will give as much help outside of class though.
On all her tests I got C's. I used this to my advantage. Now I knew what I understood and what I didn't. I asked her about everything I did not understand even though I had some idea. For the Final exam, I got an 89 and as a final average, an A- (after the quizzes were averaged in). Just make sure you understand all concepts and be sure to ask Q's.
The nicest teacher. She's always there for help. In order to do well in the class you NEED to do the problems in the book and be near smart people for the inclass quizes. Tests are hard but there isnt really a strong demand to attend class except for the occasional free quiz days. Very boring though.
Sue is a great professor. She really cares about her students well being and understanding of the material. She is always willing to meet with you to clarify information. She drops one of the three exams, and two of the quizzes. Material is kind of tricky, but if you put time and effort into it you will do fine. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!
Had Dr. Geldart for 101/112...she cares about her students and had office hours 4 days/week. Two free attendance quizzes, one test of 3 and two quizzes of 12 dropped...very math-based; gives partial credit; posts practice exams; quizzes will boost your grade; show up to class, do practice problems, and use office hours for help and you'll succeed.
very nice... just very hard... this class requires alot of time and studying for the grade and sometimes it still doesnt show...spent 5 hours studying for a 52 on the test (hard grader) power points are the notes and there online so no need to take um in class... no manditory attendence but quizes are easy and are only given in class
She is a very nice lady....and a absolutely terrible professor. The SI session instructor, who was an undergrad sophomore explained the stuff better than her in significantly less time. She is weird and boring, half of the class dosen't show up. Unless you love chem, enjoy having no life and self teaching is your thing. Exams are very very hard...
Great professor! very nice lady but class is extremely boring. she posts the powerpoints online but atendence is still mandatory for the quizes she has weekly, which she gives the asnwers to in class. exams are not bad as long as you know the material for the most part, VERY math based
Run far away unless you want to be lost a sea in her class-you will learn nothing so be ready to teach yourself and hire a tutor
Geldart is a good teacher as long as you go to class. She explains everything through powerpoints in class. All the slides are also online. If you put effort in you will be able to test out of the final. You don't need to read the chapters just do practice problem cause her test are all problems with some vocab. No multiple choice.
good teacher. when you ask a question, she actually answers the question. make sure to go to class because she gives quizzes out and she she basically tells you all the answers and how to solve them, which is helpful for the exam. don't slack off, and an a will come!
Nice teacher, exams are moderately hard, gives quizzes on the material so show up for class and takes notes.
The notes are online, so my best advice is to print them and write down notes in the margins as she lectures. I used to write the notes thinking it will help but it's really distracting and not helpful. Should know how to do problems b/c tests are hard. Quizzes are periodical and unannounced-so be there. She's really nice. Fair grader.
Extremely nice! Make sure to go to classes for quizzes. She goes over how to do the quizzes in class so you should almost always get a 100. The tests are fair even though average is low. Make sure you know how to do all the example problems and questions at the end of the chapters. If you do that you won't need to take the final.
Grades are based on in class quizzes and exams. For the quizzes, it's open notes and you can work together. She also helps. Don't skip classes because quizzes are not announced and usually only help your grade. Exams can be difficult. Do the problems from the practice exams and understand the concepts. She is always around to help.
Extremely nice but unfortunately tries to dumb down the information too much, making the class extremely boring and not very informative. Of the ridiculously easy example she goes over in class though, she is very clear.
She is really really nice!!! If you get behind get help ASAP! She will help you if you ask for it and SHE ACTUAlLY ANSWERS QUESTIONS!! Go to class because she has unannounced quizzes. Do problems at the back of every chapter(she usually bases exam questions off these). Will take another class with her
It is a little hard to stay focused in class. But anything you miss or dont understand she will meet with you and explain. She is possibly one of the nicest ladies I have ever met.
She's a wonderful woman it's a pity she has to teach such a dreadful subject. Tends to rush through slides, and although the examples she gives you in class are simple the problems on the exam are significantly harder and she does not scale. Be prepared to buckle down this is not an easy class.
Really good Teacher, but her test are very hard. Very nice lady.
Given the tremendous size of her classes, the woman really works her butt off. It's often easy to fall behind in class, but if you utilize her office hours and the textbook you should be fine. She also has a final exam exemption policy, which is rare among college profs.
LOVE THIS LADY
She's an amazing woman, but chm is an impossible subject at URI. Classes are huge & required by most majors Utilize her office hours, talk to her & let her get to know you, she'll help in any way she can. She's really caring, she really helped me through my first year of college. Go to the SI sessions weekly too, they really help.
She is honestly the most caring, helpful person I have encountered during my time at URI. Go to her office hours, she loves to get to know her students.
You can fall behind VERY quickly.Fast paced class, pretty hardcore for a 101 course. Slackers beware!!
She's a nice lady, but she just reads off slides. If you go back and read the notes they are helpful. The book provided minimal help in terms of preparation for exams. If you're pursuing chem in the long run you want her because you will actually learn. Be warned that it's mainly self teaching, but go to SI session and office hours.
likes to weed kids out just for fun. talks way to much about next semester chemistry.
Difficult class. She moves fast through notes but posts them. She will help you but the best help you can get from her is one on one. Attendance not mandatory but you should go cause she gives really easy quizzes. Tests are difficult so you need to study. Do the recommended problems and read the chapters and you do fine.
Excellent teacher. I've never met a PhD so full of life and pleasant. Highly recommend her. She is better than all the others...
She is not a good teacher at all. She does little to no examples during class, and just reads off her powerpoints. She basically leaves her students to go learn on their own, and her tests are substantially hard to complete in the small time frame you're given. She does not show much compassion or sympathy for her students.
Very hard professor, shows no mercy. If you can avoid taking one of her chem classes...do it.
I had her for 101 and 112. She's really a wonderful professor. Very nice and extremely helpful. Very fair grader. Class is a bit difficult, but she makes sure you learn. Read the notes, ask questions, and do the practice exams and you should do fine. She genuinely cares about her students and does everything she can to make sure they succeed.
Dr. Geldart is an awesome teacher! She is really helpful. The material is hard so you need to study and the tests are difficult. Just practice problems from the book and do the practice tests she gives. If you have questions, ask her or email her. She always responds quickly. Definitely worth taking her as opposed to another teacher.
I had her for Chm 101 & 112. She's a really nice person, she just can't teach. In class she reads off her slides, which are copied directly out of the book. She only goes over 1 easy example of every equation, so when it comes time to do the hard ones on your own you are lost. The wording is tricky on all of her exams and the averages are very low
I had her for both 101 and 112. Her exams are definitely tricky, and most questions are worded very awkwardly, but she is a sweetheart and was ALWAYS available for help.
Really intelligent woman! Such an honor to learn from her. While I will be the first to say that Chemistry 101 is a difficult course, she makes it very clear on how to assess the information & connects ideas really well. She's very nice, always offers help & answers all questions. Definitely a class that you can do well in if you put in the work.
Very nice woman but it's very difficult to pay attention in class because she just reads off power-points and highlights easy problems in class. Otherwise, she is very helpful and nice if you try. I did O.K. in the class due to the wonderful SI instructor. If you take this class, stay ahead of the curve and do the HW with each chapter.
A good professor. She's not the greatest but she's not poor either. She's very helpful outside the class room and, if you are putting in the effort, you should be able to pass her class without too much difficulty. Do the Connect HW EVERY WEEK. Follow the aforesaid and you'll do fine.
Had her for CHM 112. Very very hard class. i was failing with a 37 average before the last exam and i was able to pull out a C. Her lectures didnt help at all, and her style of teaching isnt helpful to me. expect to put a lot of extra time in
TAKE THIS CLASS, ONE OF THE EASIEST TEACHERS AT URI. LOL, JUST KIDDING..BUT STILL A VERY EASY TEACHER AND AWESOME TEACHING SKILL, THIS CLASS IS A MUST TAKE!
This class kinda sucks. The exams are much harder than the practice exams and the lectures are soooo boring. She reads directly from a powerpoint so you don't really need to go to class.
Really good and easy to follow. Shes a sweetheart and even has a final exemption policy, which is pretty cool of her. If you go to the SI and review her powerpoints (there online), you will be fine for the exams.
There are professors who are great lecturers, who are articulate, who are thought provoking, who inspire, who are hilarious, and who care. And then there's Geldhart.
CHEMISTRY IS HARD. stop blaming the professor for your bad grades. She is a sweetheart and will help you at any time you ASK for her help. That is all I have to say
Such a sweet woman. This class is a hard class but it is not her fault, no matter who teaches you're going to have to do alot of work. Very helpful and willing to work with students who take the time to tell her when their having problems. Take her class!
Took CHM101 3 times (dropped it first 2) with 3 different teachers. The first two were miserably boring. Whoever says Geldhart is a "bad teacher" is just bored of chemistry. She makes learning this as interesting as possible. She provides you with all the essentials to learn on your own too.
I would not recommend this professor. Exams are crazy hard compared to other professors who teach this same class. All she does is do out easy problems as examples in class and the exams hardly match up to the practice ones.
Geldart is by far been one of the best and most caring professors I have ever had!I had her for CHM101 too. Her exams are tough, but i found if you put the work into it they are quite rewarding. Her practice exams and the practice connect problems help. She explains the material clearly in class, and she is ALWAYS available in her office for help.
Great professor. I had her for CHEM 101 last semester and she still answers my questions for 112. Great resource and amazing teacher. She loves it when students approach her.
Didn't have her for class but I'm real thankful for that judging by her lab. The manual is an absolute error-riddled mess with mistakes all over the place and the lab write-ups take a completely ridiculous amount of time to complete. The manual either holds your hand to a ridiculous degree or isn't clear at all: either way it's a waste of time.
By far my favorite professor I have had so far. She cares so much about her students and does everything in her power to help you pass the class. Chemistry is difficult so you obviously need to put effort in and do the homework and study for exams. If you pay attention in lecture, keep up with the homework, and go to office hours you will be fine.
Really nice professor. She really cares about the students and is willing to spend extra time to make sure you understand. All her notes are online if you ever need to go over something again. Tests are difficult but manageable if you do the practice exams.
She teaches a lot of information in a short amount of time. She gives weekly homework which you need the book for most of it. A lot of her lecturing is long and tedious and she often has errors in her lecture material, homework and lab materials. Even though she may not be the best she is very nice and has a lot of free time for extra help.
Dr. Geldart is an excellent teacher given the difficult material she handles. She explains the material well and her slides are organized. Her tests are challenging because they are all open ended questions, but they are very fair. The practice test is essential the same as the real thing. She is a sweet lady who truly cares about her students.
a sweetheart who is there for the students definitely better than the other 112 lecturers
Probably one of the sweetest people alive, but does make you work for a good grade. Didn't do as well as I wanted but that was partially my fault. I wish she did more practice problems in class because her tests are all open response questions. Overall good teacher, super helpful and cares about her students.
Really good professor. Probably the best for 112. Explains everything well and really wants to help you if you come to her office hours. Exempt from final if you are good with taking the average of 4 exams.
Geldart is one of the sweetest professors I've ever had the pleasure of taking a class with. However, this is a VERY difficult class. You need to keep up with the material and do LOTS of practice problems, it's the only way you'll pass. Although she is very approachable, I wasn't too fond of her teaching style. Too few in-class examples.
Hard class, best chemistry professor at URI
She cares so much about people doing well, but class is very hard. Many people were not doing well even with the scale. She is a good professor but sometimes messes up while doing problems. Definitely go to office hours to get help, she's much better one on one.
sweetest lady ever. curves grade and very helpful. best chem 112 teacher.
I had Dr. Geldart my second time taking CHM112 after failing it with another prof, and it made a whole lot more sense with her. Her lectures can be confusing occasionally due to her going a little fast, but going to her office hours really helps. She's also one of the nicest people I've ever met and truly wants you to succeed. Drops the lowest exam
I always say the chem department sucks and this prof is a prime example of the department sucking. Doesnt even finish problems in class. Everythings very confusing, but she claims its simple. She grades heavy and tests are 8 problems. Practice exams are nothing like exams and she doesnt give good answer keys. She was the only option for 112. :(
Definitely a good professor to learn from, best chem one I've had. Lectures aren't mandatory but I highly recommend attending all or it will be hard.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. She makes her exams nothing like her practice exams and does not give any partial credit. She is out to make you fail. If you can avoid having her as a teacher make sure to do so.
Dr. Geldart is a really good professor for CHM 112. She gives good notes in class and goes through example problems. Her exams were almost identical to the practice exams. Make sure to do lots of practice problems outside of class to prepare for exams!
Very nice person but awful at teaching. All she does is read off the slides and barely does any examples in class. Used to love chemistry until I had her. The exams are a lot more difficult than what she does in class. If you want to pass this class with a decent grade, go to office hours because you won't understand a thing in class.
Doctor Geldart is one of the sweetest professors ever. Going to office hours helped me greatly. The material can be difficult and exams are 80% of your grade so studying is very important. Dr. Geldart is always available to help though.
I am the worst at chemistry and in spite of this, Geldart was super encouraging and always available in her office to answer questions. the lectures sometimes dragged on because she teaches using a lot of example problems. tests are pretty hard, but she is still one of the better professors at URI for chem. pretty decent option- shes a nice lady
Dr. Geldart was a good professor. Her exams were tough and she's decent with partial credit. She is the best in the department. Go to class, practice all the problems. The practice exams are not helpful, create study guides. She drops the lowest test and the final was optional. Go to class, go to office hours, and practice: you'll be fine.
She does not take time to make sure you understand the material and if you email her she will not respond for at least a week, if at all, so if you have a question, you have to either ask someone else or figure it out yourself. Took this class Spring 2020 and when classes went online, things got even worse in terms of the issues above.
