She is a horrible teacher. She just writes on the board and doesn't explain clearly. Her exams are very difficult. The only way to pass the class is for someone to cheat. I do not recommend this teacher at all. I hate her.
She is a very good teacher, will explain everything thoroughly. Easy tests and quizzes.
My class started off with about 50 kids, and only 21 remained by the end of the semester. She is always willing to help, but she moves too quickly. I took about 7 pages of notes per day and still only did average.
She is a horrible teacher. When the class started, there were about 48 students. By the end of the semester, there were only 9 students. She just puts to much pressure on the students with her load of lecture notes and difficult exams. I strongly do no recommend this teacher.
It's true that she explains everything and is very detailed but she goes too fast that you suddenly forget what she just said. This class is easy if you have taken Trig before in high school or if u have enough time to dedicate to it. She does help students out of class if they need it.
SHE GOES TO FAST, DOES NOT CARE IF YOU GET IT OR NOT. AND WHEN I ASK HER QUESTIONSABOUT THE MATERIAL, SHE GETS OFFENSIVE. HER TESTS ARE EXTREMELY HARD AND SHE AND SHE MESSED UP MY FINAL GRADE AND DID NOT CHANGE IT. DO NOT RECOMMEND HER TO ANYONE
AAAAWESOME TEACHER.. SHE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING VERY CLEARLY AND GOES OVER ALL THE HOMEWORKS AND ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAD TO MAKE SURE YOU UNSERSTOOD THE MATERIAL. I THOUGHT SHE WAS VERY NICE AND SUPER HELPFUL. I FOUND THE CLASS TO BE CHALLENGING BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE.. I RECCOMEND HER TO ANYONE.
SHE IS VERY PROFFESIONAL. THE COURSE IS NOT THE EASIEST SO EXPECT TO DO SOME WORK. VERY ORGANIZED. IF YOU DO THE HOMEWORK PROBLEMS THAT SHE ASSIGNS YOU WILL BE PREPARED FOR THE QUIZEZ. SHE ALLOCATES TIME IN EACH CLASS TO EXPLAIN ANY HOMEWORK YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND AND IS ALWAYS WILLING TO GIVE TIME
Cool lady, but her class is really tough. Try to get a copy of a set of student notes she offers at the beginning of the semester because it saves you the effort of writing notes yourself (she writes really fast!). Do all HW, try not to miss a quiz. Warning: tests are way harder than HW and quizzes.
Very good professor that knows how to speak English! She does goe a little too fast and her notes are very long, and she does lots of quizes. All this is done so we can do better on the exams. Overall a very good prof.
dangerous......gives you easy problems to study, then gives you the hardest problems on the test. Your crazy if you take this lady. Really unfair test!!!! Repeat....REALLY UNFAIR!!!!!! She doesnt prepare you for the test that you are going to take......good luck if you take this professor!!! You will probally FAIL!!!!
Teaches too quickly!! Half of the class usually drops(just read other students comments). Quizzes and Test are HARD!! Had to take the class twice with her to pass with B-. The only thing good is that she does spend time going over the HW and she is willing to help during her Office Hrs. Just beware and good luck!! you are going to need it.
Very unhelpful teacher, she would embarrass you in class if given the chance. When you ask her a question she answers as if you are stupid for not seeing the ovbious.
Excellent professor! The class is very challenging; don't expect any less. It is incredibly well structured, and she does an awesome job of presenting the information. She is very willing to help you, and her grading policies are the most fair I have ev
Prof Gorman was awesome. This is a difficult class for most, and she made it challenging but was always willing to help.
Most difficult class ever.
Avoid this teacher like the plague. On the first day she gloats on how she made many people change majors. Also she is pround that most students don't pass her class the first time. Even taking it as far as saying many students have has to take her 3 times. She is arrogant and very unapproachable.
The tests are 3 times harder than any assignment and she doesnt give any points for effort. If you dont know the material word for word, she wont take any pity on your soul.
They need to find someone else to teach this. The notation was alien to me, as was composing proofs, and she doesn't go over that. It took me three weeks to start getting A's on the quizzes, only to get a 55 on the first exam-high for my class! Her first words to us were: "Don't worry if there aren't enough seats, there will be in two weeks."
This teacher's main interest lies in making profits for the school's math department. The syllabus is arranged with the most difficult material at the beginning of the semester, and the homework, quizzes and review material assigned DOES NOT prepare students for questions given on the exams. (Surprise....all that studying was for nothing! F)

Her first day she explains how most of those in her class for the first time will fail and she allows you to take it again and she'll give you at least a C.
To the last poster I feel your pain. Just as randy, paula, and simon are searching for the next american idol. Prof Gorman is searching for the next einstein. Doubt she found him with that exam. Withdraw...
Child-like? Free grade? You are obviously either the professor or someone with a very, very high intellect. To even make those remarks is child-like, arrogant, and self centered. I agree with the last poster, this professor is just too hard--for us student seeking a free grade. Its a shame, really a shame.
Very good teacher, class is structured well. If you are a math major you will enjoy this class. If you are a comp science major you will probably not. This class is challenging but fun and interesting. I like the class and the teacher. I got an A the first time through.
Excellent class! You truly learn a great deal. Expect to work hard, but the time and effort is very worthwhile.
She sucks. She makes the class super hard. The test are harder than the homework but wait... the final is 3 times harder than the actual test. she sucks big time.

She went very fast when teaching the material. If you don't think you can keep up, I don't suggest you take her class.
I had her ~2 years ago. She does not explain things well, she tried to make me feel stupid every time i went to her office hours. She is a horrible horrible professor.
Horrible teacher! She went way too fast! I took literally 8 pages of notes a day, and I write small. By the time you "get" something she's already 3 pages ahead. Whenever anyone asked questions she either confused them even more or told them they weren't good in math. Don't take it if you're not good in math. I ended up having to drop it.
Horrible Professor, for those who actually say she's is good you are just lucky. She can explain very good and her quizzes can be very easy. However, the exams are super hard and unclear and wait the final is unthinkable it is so hard that by the second page you can't remember what you have done in the first one. She beliee everyone is dumb.
She really is not a good teacher. She lacks the key ability of a teacher, the ability to teach. I am good in math and will most likely get an A in her class but it will be because I stopped paying attention in class and started teaching myself. I do not recomend her at all. Sometimes I wonder if she really knows the subject or not. A scatterbrain.
She doesn't help you understand anything. I once approached her after class to set up a meeting during her office hours so I coud better understand her proofs, she told me you'll get it eventually. She also goes to quickly. When you're just starting to understand a subject or topic she's aready 5 topics ahead of you.
worst professor. yells at you when you ask for help. and just goes way to quick and refuses to help. your better off buying the book and teaching yourself. oh and she messed up my final grade which wasnt changed
I cant believe some people say she is a good teacher. She goes really fast, everybody is afraid of asking her a question, and she tell you the first day how you are going to fail. She is the worst teache ever, please take someone else, i got all her notes, and a cd with the lectures and i had to drop. She doesnt answer your questions and goes FAST.
WOW! I love this class, she is extremely helpful. She expains everything so clear, but dont expect to pass the class if you dont do the homework. Quizzes are exaclty from the homework. And if you understand what you are doing you are going to do great on the tests....
Don't bother taking her. She goes way too fast in her lectures and her grading is insanely harsh, just plain unfair. A small, insignificant mistake will cost you most of the points on a problem. If you have to take her, just do ALL of the HW. It won't help you at all for the tests, but her quizes are based DIRECTLY off the HW. Avoid at all costs.
By far this is the worse professor ever!.If you want to fail a class you've got the right professor. She flashes through a topic, gives excessive notes. She gets upset if you ask her to explain a problem in detail, gives 3 exams & 12 quizzes.alot of H.W. Expects you to fail! This came from her own mouth.
She explains everything well, but you must do the homework to even think about doing well. The tests are extremely hard, especially the final. The quizzes are alright depending on the topic that week.
Horrible Teacher, I used to love MATH but this teacher crashed my math world because of her my GPA dropped to 3.20 I considered myself a good student and I failed because her teaching style wrapped me in the failing style avoid her completely dont take the class at all or take it somewhere else, seriously you will be in danger. gooooo awayyyyy!
Very good teacher. She explains everything thoroughly and has very good use of class time. Her class is hard but if you do your part you will be fine. If you don't study you will not pass.
SHE DOESNT TEACH! dont even bother going to class, its pointless. If you dont understand the materal just get a tutor. She thinks everyone already knows the material so she goes really fast
very helpful, answers homework question. her class is not an easy A you have to STUDY for her test but overall she's a great teacher
Not an easy class, but she knows her math. She goes fast, so pay attention. You MUST do the hw, and you MUST study - this was my 1st class that I did any hardcore studying.
Hardest class i've ever taken.Teacher is basically useless as she goes way 2 fast to comprehend anything she is saying.By the time u even write down the notes, shes talking about another lesson. So u're forced 2 self-teach urself. But the book we use is very hard 2 learn from, even though the material seems easy the authors explainations are abstract
I learned a great deal from her back in the 90's. The whiners and naysayers have no concept of the focus and dedication it takes to succeed in a challenging math course. No baby stuff here. It's the real deal!
She is a good teacher. I learned a lot in her course (Discrete Math). The course is hard for the majority of students, but it is really a very easy course if compared with math courses in elite universities. Those that say this course is hard have no idea about what hard means. It's true that the exams where much more difficult than the quizzes.
Stay away form her. Goes too fast, hard tests but does know her stuff.
Not an issue of whether the material is 'hard' or not. Highlights: lack of clarity, condescending towards students, and worse, brags about most students not passing her class, and more. Worst teacher I've ever had, has no pedagogy skills. I have a 4.0 GPA, but no thanks to her. Wasted my money on her class.
the class is worth taking online to avoid driving long distances, but she has 3 exams and if u fail one the final exam counts as double,,the material is a lot of work if u fall behind forget about catching up w/ the assingments//class is ok if u like independent work
Well experienced and skilled mathemitician! She is a drill sargent and the class is boot camp. You will hate life during the semester but she makes you a lean mean discrete math machine!
Course moves at a fast pace. Lot of homework. Gives you all the notes for course, and audio recordings of lectures.Very fair grading policy. Material is above average difficulty, but a lot of fun.
Real simple. Stay away. She is absolutely there to raise revenues at FIU
Pretty easy class. She's not a very nice person, but she IS helpful if you have any idea about what you're doing. Not for those who want a free grade.
The homework is easy but her test are extremely hard. She is rude at times and is constantly bragging about how students fail and take her class 3 or times. Her final was super hard and completely unfair. I got a C in the class and would've wanted a better grade but i'll stay wit the C just so i don't have to see her again.
Most profs want you to do well in class. She wants and expects you to do poorly. The material isn't that hard, but she goes really fast as if it's all just a review of stuff you already know. Probably true for a lot of people since so many fail and have to take the class twice. Homework: easy. Tests: tricky and hard. Harsh grader. Avoid if you can.
I took this class online thinking it would be easy, but I was totally wrong. Material isn't easy so if your not good with math I'd advise you to take this in person. I don't think she's a bad teacher but she grades pretty rough and you only have 3 exams and a final as your overall grade, so if you fail one might as well drop before its too late.
As stated by everyone here she gets pleasure and prides on the amount of students she fails. The university must be so proud of her because of the money she raises for them. I took her class 8 years ago and when I heard of this site I could not resist in warning others about her. She is a royal "female dog". you have been warned, stay away!
Not an easy class, but very passable. Tests are difficult but you can correct them for extra points. Weekly quizzes based on HW that really can boost grade as long as you put some effort and do well on them. They are very easy if you just study a little bit (unlike the tests). Look I suck at math big time and passed this class so u should pass t00.
Took this class during the FALL of 2008. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROF. SHE IS HORRIBLE. SHE DOES NOT SLOW DOWN AND EXPECTS EVERYONE TO KNOW THIS MATERIAL BEFOREHAND. HORRIBLE.
She is horible! She goes way to fast, does not know how to explain. I am taking this class with another teacher now, and I understand everything. Please dont take her.
Dr. Gorman is the best math teacher I've ever had. There is a weekly quiz that keeps you on your toes, she always asks if there are questions, even answers e-mails, posts reviews for the big exams online from the first day onward, and is overall a really awesome woman. I have always struggled in math classes, and am not struggling at all in this c
AVOID HER LIKE THE PLAGUE
This is a hard class with a lot of material to study. The professor goes fast but she doesn't have other choice if she wants to follow the syllabus. If you want to have a good grade, do all the assigments on time. The material is very interesting and usefull. The tests aren't so hard but you have to study like crazy. Do not procrastinate. Good luck
Online class. Watch the videos, do the homework, easy A.
Took this class online, very difficult: expect to work for your grade. Her lectures may not be interesting, but she clearly and comprehensively explains the material. The tests are tough but fair, similar to what you see in her reviews, homework, and lectures. She doesn't make it easy, but she tells you what you need to know if you pay attention.
She knows her stuff. I can understand her classes and she explains well. That's it. Weekly quizzes!! Tons of content. No notes allowed on quizzes or exams!! WTF. She goes very fast and makes this class really hard. You need to be a bookworm to pass this class. God help me.
On the first quiz I got a 4 out of 12 on the 1st exam I got a 31 she is very tough. 1st exam was similar to the study guide 2nd exam half of the study guide was similar to the test the rest was from the book even problems so far I am failing.
I didnt like her. Ive only dropped a few classes, and she was one one of them. She went super fast and only a few students followed along. She blamed every students question on lack of knowledge of algebra, and seemed to want students to drop. To weed out non-math typed students. I pray for a better professor next semester.
She knows her stuff, she wants you to pass and know the material. If you do the homework (not mandatory) you'll be fine. Her tests are incredibly easy (if you know the material or have some concept of it).
Great professor. Highly recommended. She's clear, knows her stuff and is always helpful. Homework and attendance are not mandatory. She gives weekly quizzes and drops about 4 or 5 of the lowest ones, 3 exams which she lets you do corrections on to help your score and the final takes the grade of your lowest exam. I took her for Discrete and Calc I.
Took her for discrete math her classes is extremely easy, you can't fail it unless you never do the none mandatory homework, she even gives you supplement problems. Her final replaces the lowest test grade you have earned. Highly suggest you take this course.
She makes the class hard. She teaches from a a script. She wont explain anything in class she will just repeat what she has written on her script. Her quizzes are based on the homework so they are easy, her exams are 10x harder than the quizzes and review and her final is 20x harder than the exams, AVOID HER AT ALL COST SHE IS A HORRIBLE TEACHER
Took discrete math with her online. I took notes and studied exclusively from them. The homework was medium in difficulty but her exams were super tough. She's a fair grader and I learned a lot from her class. Personality wise, she's the no nonsense kind, but friendly enough. Not an easy class, but at least she knows how to teach the material.
Took Discrete math with her. There are a lot of proofs, but its a great introductory course for them. She gives quizzes every week from the hw (not collected). She only takes the top 8 quizzes. Gives supplementary problems, with solutions, and reviews for the exams.
Took her online class. I honestly found her online lectures to be boring and of poor quality. The book was pretty terrible (I think it was written in the 70s). I ended up having to find lectures on youtube to teach myself the material. If you study her reviews, you should pass the exams. The final however, is fairly difficult.
I have taken many online classes, but I must say this is the worst. Do not waste your time and money. The quality of the videos is really bad. Volume is to high or too low, most of the times is a regular class that was recorded. Sorry, but there has to be a better way
Prepare yourself for a miserable life during the entire semester if you take this course with her
This class is not impossible unless you don't have all the quizzes and tests from previous years. The final is impossible and I had a B average in the class and ended up getting a C because of the final. She's nice and helpful sometimes.
She is awesome! I've had plenty of math teachers before, but she is by far the best! Her teaching style is geared towards making you learn the material, while also making it as easy as possible to score a good grade. I recommend her 1000%!
She is not nearly as difficult as people think. Her quizzes are literally problems from the homework and she drops your 4-6 lowest. Her exams are challenging and you do need to actually understand the material. Very helpful but is a little coarse when asked simple questions.
This is a hard class, and she is not an easy teacher.. You will struggle with her tests. I wont recommend this teacher. If you want to pass the class make sure you do all the hw and supplement problems
Class is NOT EASY, Dr Gorman knows the material very well and knows how to explain, TAKE NOTES AND READ THEM! exams come from what she taught in the class not the book! VERY HELPFUL class for Comp Eng majors, I got a D, then retook and got A-, if you think you "kind of" understand the material you WILL get an F, don't take it lightly and will get A
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Impossible amount of information. Every positive review is bogus, they just want you to fail!
This class is HARD! Prof. Gorman does what she can to help you pass and if you decide not to take advantage of the opportunities she gives you then it's your fault you don't pass. Her grading is very fair and gives you plenty of resources to study from. I do recommend this professor but you have to realize that this is not an easy class so study!
Her class is built for you to succeed. An A is attainable as long as you follow the book with the course lessons and do the homework in a timely manner. She wants her students to pass.
Took this class online, NOT recommended. Got a B but studied like crazy. I'm sure I'm not the only one who hated my life during this class. Dr Gorman does answer emails quickly and is usually willing to help. Also does curve somewhat on exams. Just DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS LIGHTLY
This is a challenging class. It should be a 5 credit course. The professor explains well, but you have to put a lot of time in doing homework. First two exams are tough and the final is not easy either. If you don't have a 2 or 3 hrs a week minimum to put in, don't take the class. Online students don't have weekly quizzes that can help your grade.
Discrete Math is hard. She gives you lots of chances to pass though. She goes out of her way to help you. By the way go to the tutoring sections with Nick and you will do well on the tests.
The class is hard, but she will give you a lot of chances to pass. She will always let you do corrections on test for a bit of extra points, which could bump your grade up. Go to the tutoring section she has gone out of her way to create for you, the tutor is amazing and will prepare you for her test. The quizzes are the HW!
This prof. is way too hard , be prepare for a lot of work, quizzes every week , and test very difficult , if you didnt pass one exam dont expect to make it for the final !! the final is crazy, ridiculous. So make sure you pass the first 3 exams with a decent grade !!
I took Gorman for Discrete Math, and so I'm not skewing my review with the difficulty of the course. She makes the course as easy as it has to be, offering corrections to exams, only grading 8 of 13 quizes, and has loads of tutors / office hours. The lectures are planned and well organized, and the quizes are great practice for exams.
This professor does not care about you and lacks the ability to care about her profession and lacks a passion to teach. Her online class is prerecorded lectures of low quality. If you ask her a question prepare for an attitude in her reply. And if you really need help she will refer you to her TA. She will not bother to assist much if any.
The professor is great! If you read the book, you will not understand anything without her lectures. The course has 4 tests,on Fridays.By Monday night they are graded! She is very nice.Sometimes students asks her dumb questions, as "what is the course that I am taking?"Then she has to be a "smart". DO EVERYHTING and you'll GET A or B. IT IS HARD MATH.
Took this teacher for calculus I and was amazed by how much I learned. Take her she's great!
Good professor, the class is rough to start, but she helps you get through it. Be sure to study and attend LA hours.
She is average and is really picky with her grading, simple mistakes can cost you the grade. She does have notes online but they are not heavily detailed and usually does not cover what her exams cover. Class is mostly proofs and the quizzes will have more easy proofs compared to her exams. If you cant pass her quizzes dont expect to pass her exam
This is a teach yourself kind of class. The professor is discouraging. If your struggling she will show you the door and tell you not to take the class again (basically give up on your career). Save yourself the gas money and take it online. Teachers should encourage students to learn! If you fail it doesn't mean give up guys! it means try harder!
Not good teacher. The only good thing is that the class had tutors and they helped. But the professor goes fast and if you don't read the book your are screwed. You can also go to her office hours and she'll pay attention to you but not for that much. She says quizzes are to prepare us for the tests but the tests are WAY harder. Try to avoid her.
Gorman is not the best person to explain something, however, she still wants you to pass. The material seems hard because you need to practice it yourself. She gives extra credit and grades fairly. I gladly take her again just because she is a no nonsense no favoritism kind of person, pure fairness.
The first thing she told the class was that a lot of people don't have enough algebrageometry background to do well in calculus and that we should consider dropping because we might end up doing so anyway. She taught extremely quickly and was VERY discouraging. I definitely do not recommend her unless you wouldn't mind an unenthusiastic professor.
Definitely one of the worst math professors I've ever taken. Her teaching method is worthless, her knowledge of the content is average, her grading is arbitrary and her attitude is horrendous. She clearly loves taking points away for whatever arbitrary reason she comes up with, and even if you prove to her that you were right, it won't matter.
weekly quiz (so you see how she wants you to do stuff and see if you do know the material), 3 tests (1st one is hardest and then gets easier) and a final (pro tip for final: Study previous finals if you can find one. Thats what I did and it was literally the same test I studied). To pass do what I did, Do Homework and visit the LA's, helps a lot!
This was the most difficult course I've taken at FIU. The test are difficult no matter how much I study. The final exam took me the full 3 hours to complete. I was amazed that she used the most difficult problems for the final. If you view all of the lectures, homework assignments, and exam study guides, you will pass, but it won't be easy.
Unnecessarily pedantic. DO NOT TAKE!!!
She is an incredibly unenthusiastic and discouraging professor. The first day of the semester, she made it a point to urge most people to drop her class. Her tests were pretty easy in my opinion, I remember her giving partial credit but she was strict with errors in your arithmetic.
Honestly the best calculus professor at fiu, very helpful (extra credit). Allows you to fix mistakes on exams and that can bump you up a full letter grade. Will recommend without a doubt!
Honestly, Susan tries her best, the subject is just very complicated. This is a class you need to put a lot of work in, go behind the scenes and study not only on your own but with the TA's and in groups. It's not that she's a bad teacher, it's just that the subject is rough wherever you go. She does give extra credit and tries her best to help.
Gorman is very knowledgeable when it comes to the material but seems to rush teaching it. She starts the semester with the toughest material, which you will be lost if you never done this kind of math before. You must do ALL of the HW and attend ALL of her LA session in order to pass. If you can take another professor, do so!!!
I've made an account just to warn you guys because i would be selfish if I didn't. I barely passed her class and i love math. She very knowledgeable in Calc but she does not no how to teach it well. She grades super harsh, takes points off for everything. She is also very discouraging and unenthusiastic. Stay away from her if you can trust me.
Let me start by saying that I got a B on the class, but I just want to warn all the students. Her Discrete Math class for engineering and computer science is just ridiculously difficult and she is just a bitter professor that does not care about students. Try to avoid her, and if you take her just have me on your mind. You'll hate your life.
A very very picky grader and moves very fast in the class, doesn't make much sense and doesn't have time to wait for anyone. Her online material are years old and needs to be updated ASAP she knows her stuff but she doesn't know how to convey it. I would say take this teacher only if have to take it if not wait a semester for a different teacher.
This professor takes pints for everything btw most ppl in the back cheated on her class lol but yes very hard grader!
Taking the class with her is like rolling dice. Her grading depends on her mood, and most of the time she's bitter and tells you to drop the class. She explains the most basic of concepts in class then expects you to perform like a math phD on her tests. Even the LAs get bad grades with her. Don't take her unless you want to waste your time.
She is the hardest professor at FIU. Don't take her. Her grading is extremely unfair.
Don't take her. I was doing alright until I took the final exam which I totally bombed and now I can't continue the CS track without passing this class. She lectures by copying notes from her papers and she goes way too fast. She grades very unfairly and deducts more points than what the question is worth. Go to the LA sessions!
Stay away from her! I am a straight A student, I have a great background of applied and theoretical mathematics, and for some reason she managed to give me my first F ever in a math class. She's unprofessional, she doesn't replies to emails, grades unfairly and even threatens students sometimes that she they will fail the class. Worst teacher ever
Poor quality teaching, awful tests, rude, and discouraging. Take someone else or wait a semester.
I recommend you don't take her. I have been doing proofs for years, taken advanced mathematics classes, and received good grades in them. Still, she manages to take off points for any nonsensical reason she can come up with. Top that off with a perpetually angry attitude she carries and you will struggle. Be patient. Wait and take someone else.
Here is the trick: past exams. Otherwise you are going to have a hard time
It's sad that she is the one that offers the most open courses because she is the hardest. She goes backwards in teaching the subject, covering the hardest stuff first to give you a chance to drop. If your taking any other math, or another course that requires a lot of studying out of class already I recommend not taking this especially with her.
This is the worst teacher ever. Her lectures are unintelligible and UN-view-able. She NEVER teaches anything, all her lectures are videos from the 90's and you can understand them. There are ONLY 4 grades for the ENTIRE SEMESTER! and they're all tests. (REALLY HARD ONES TOO!) If you get a bad grade one test forget getting an A. Sucks but its true!
Very difficult class. Professor Gorman is a great professor and helped me out a lot. Did I have to work hard? You have no idea! She is very specific and tells you when and what to watch out for. Online class: you get her videos and 4 in-person proctored exams. She gives review sheets and supplement problems.
She's a very unpleasant person, very quick to snap at her students for asking simple questions. On an exam, I gave a correct proof that I learned in another textbook word for word and she marked it wrong because it wasn't the proof she gave in her lectures. Only take her class if you want a terrible semester.
A lot of people think Gorman is one of the hardest professors , but she's actually an amazing professor , I took this class online and understood everything, literally anyone who tells you they are failing are honestly lazy and don't care about learning discrete . The LA's are also really helpful and if you go to the reviews you will pass
Do you have a life? If so, drop it. If you have never seen mathematical concepts like Set Theory, Induction, Relations, or functions, you need to take time and study for her class. She gives so many grades for you to make up bad ones. Something I wish other professors can learn to do. The only requirement I would give to pass is go to LA Hours.
Discrete is a hard class, and Gorman makes it even tougher. She does provide opportunities to bring up your grade as she drops your lowest exam grade if you do good on the final and some of your quizzes. However, simple mistakes can get the best of you as she will take off many points for simple things. She also provides help through the TAs.
She teaches pretty straight forward and the class offers a lot of help out of class. Not the easiest subject, but if you do the homework, making sure you understand everything as you go, and you do practice exams, you'll be fine.
Terrible. She's very discouraging and grades unfairly. Why is it unfair? She takes off more points for mistakes than problems are even worth. She's bitter and unhelpful to students. If you find yourself taking her, look for the LAs as soon as you can. They'll teach you more than she will, sadly.
Look, discrete math is hard. It's a class to weed out computer science students who just think programming is a "cool computer degree". It is, but it's also math. Her class is structured very well, the notes are online, copy them b4 class. Just listen in class. Go to LA hours, do the hw, you'll do fine you just gotta put in the hours- it's tough.
To do well in this class you need: Good to great algebra skills. Being able to sit down for many hours and practice a lot. A LOT! The material is HARD, but Gorman is a good professor, and she sets clear and specific and clear expectations as what's in the test. You will know specifically what to study for. Go to the LA sessions, this is a must.
Don't you dare skip her class! The material is HARD when you are learning it. But when you put forth some effort by going to the LA sessions, her office hours, doing the homework, etc... You will pass. She is a good teacher, but a TOUGH grader. I recommend you to take her online course since you will have the ability to replay the lectures.
Get ready to study every day. Find a group in class to study with from the very first day. Go to as many LA hours as possible, missing LA hours your chances of passing drop dramatically. Study a lot for exam 1 that will make or break your grade, don't rely on final exam to save your grade like I did. Final is very tough, long and cumulative. GLuck.
This woman knocked me off because even though my answer was right, I phrased it (((((incorrectly)))). Turned me away at office hours
She is a very fair professor who expects her students to actually learn the material, and learn it well. To that end don't expect an easy A, but if you work hard and attend the LA sessions regularly, you should be fine. If you apply yourself you'll actually find the material really enjoyable!
This is the type of professor that you'll come to realize would rather be doing something else. I did well in her hybrid Calculus class in spite of her. If you aren't great at math, you'll struggle. She does not make an effort to teach. Every class is group work where you'll become more confused, followed by a quiz.
Amazing professor, really knows the content and makes it easy to understand. She is a tough grader but she gives tons of extra credit opportunities and makes her expectations clear from day 1, there are no surprises. I would recommend her hybrid course so you can rewatch the lectures. Just do the homework problems she assigns and you will get an A.
The class was only 4 Grades (3 Tests and a Final). It was way too much material for only 6 weeks to go over since it was Summer B. Do yourself a favor, and do not take this course with her over the summer. She is an extremely harsh grader.
Extremely harsh grader. Took excessive points off for tests and tests were much harder than homework or quizzes. Do yourself a favor and get the previous exams if you wanna pass. Get on her bad side and she can be unpleasant. If you do go to her for help she will help you however.
I thought previous reviews exagerated how harshly she grades Tests and Quizzes but this woman is an Extremely harsh grader. The entire problem has to be correct and done her way, if not then it is completely wrong. Little to no partial credit. 3 Exams, 12 or so Quizzes and a final. She drops a few low quiz grades and final replaces lowest test.
I started the semester only seeing Professor Gorman for every test and she was very loud and wasnt afraid to tell you youre failing in front of the entire class. However, I completely changed my opinion when I took the time to visit her office hours because she was so helpful And kind. I highly recommend as long as youre willing to work a lil.
Gorman lacks breaking concepts down into simpler terms for understanding, and building the concept back up for students to completely understand the concept entirely. Instead, you'll get a useless hour and a half lecture of her speeding through the problems and you'll most likely have to see an LA/TA for assistance on passing. Don't take her.
Homework and quizzes do not prepare you for the exams in this class. The problems on the exams were way more advanced than anything she taught. Sadly, my work schedule didn't allow me to go to the LA sessions, but after the one (1) that I went to, I took an exam grade from an F to a C. They are your lifeline in this class.
Discrete Mathematics is a tough class, you HAVE to study, but if you do you will be fine. In the class, you work in groups, followed by a quiz, BUT you have videos where she explains everything and you can watch it over and over again. For questions you can easily reach out to her, she would be more than happy to help you.
This class is tough. The prof's lectures are videos online. Every week you will be tested with either a quiz or exam. To do well, you should get help from the LA's, email the professor, re-read the notes, and do the supplement problems. She awards extra points on your exams when you participate in class.
This isn't an easy class, but I think she does an awesome job explaining the material in her recorded lectures (her actual class is just doing group workshops before doing the quiz, which definitely helps prepare you for the quiz). LA sessions are SUPER helpful, attend those whenever you can. She's a bit picky with grading but mostly fair.
