she's a pretty cool teacher. gives notes from power pointe. attendance isn't needed. the class before an exam she tells you EXACTLY what you need to know. as long as you look over that and are familiar w/ it you'll do fine! nice prof. easy to understand. loves ques & discussion. i recommend!
Learned alot about Law Enforcement. Although she teaches from powerpoints, her stories add to the level of interest in the class. Only takes attendence through written assignment MAYBE 3 or 4 times. Also brought in a great pair of guest speakers from CMPD. I recommend completely.
She was a great teacher. She made the topics very interesting, especially the not so interesting subjects (court systems). Attendance is not required except for the days she collects assignments (but beware that she does not announce when that is). She uses powerpoint slides and gives a thurough review before her tests. I highly recommend her!
She is an excellent teacher. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Attendance isn't needed but it's a fun class. Her review sheets are amazing and as long as you study you'll ace the class with no problem.
GREAT TEACHER!!!! she really knows her stuff. uses slides, and doesnt take atendance! has a homeowrk question every once in a while, for attendance, but thats it.! tests arent difficult. she tells you what you need to know before hand!
She is awesome. Great teacher, really knows what she is doing. Attendance isn't necessary, but you should go to avoid reading the book as much. She goes over everything you need to know and the powerpoints are pretty much the book. If you got to class and study you'll do fine
definitely not a hard class. attendance isn't taken but its definitely worth going because everything in the lecture is directly in the tests. show up and take notes...easy easy A
Notes come directly from book. Has an in-class review before every test and gives you everything you need to know. She is very helpful with any questions you have. Will take more of her classes if possible.
Really easy A! Review before test gives you everything that will be on there and notes are straight out of the book. Don't have to go but she makes it interesting so I would.
Extremely easy A and I'm not a Criminal Justice major nor have I ever taken a Criminal Justice class. Mostly common sense knowledge. You'll need the book to do a couple of assignments that she'll tell you she's taking up. TAKE FOR AN EASY A!
She is an amazing teacher. She makes the class interesting and she gets you to think. The class is pretty easy if you attend and read the textbook.I wish I could take her for all of my cj classes
Pretty interesting, didn't mind taking this class. I learned a lot too. Multiple choice tests, easy hw (she takes up at random), and a guest speaker. Kinda thought she was hot like a cougar or somethin...lol
Great professor, very easy when taken along with CJUS 2000! short 1pg essay HW collected at random but there are only about 10 assigned. Don't have to go to class but her reviews are great. Tests are all multiple choice. Easy A if you go to class!
Great teacher! Easy A. She collects written assignment randomly but it is extremely easy.
Good class, a little too fast though
TAKE HER! NOT HARD, GIVES U THE PWRPTS TO FOLLOW IN CLASS, TELLS U EXACTLY WHAT U NEED TO STUDY, VERY WELCOMIN
At the beginning of the class she seemed very nice. But towards the end, she just got more rude every time I asked her a question. DONT BUY THE BOOK. She will tell you that you need it to answer the thought questions, but you dont. CJUS is the most boring thing I've ever learned in my life. Prof: Know it all, rude. Class: Easy, boring, no book.
Rude, not helpful at all. Take anyone but her for CJ Theory.
AWESOME TEACHER! I had her for CJ theory and you would want to take no one else for this class. The person who said she was rude obviously never showed up to class because anyone who was there would tell you that she is one of the greatest teachers at UNCC. Professor Hodge is a great teacher and you will NOT regret taking her class.
she is a really easy teacher, the class is boring.. you print off her power points and study word for word.. thats her exam
G-R-E-A-T teacher.. absolutley one of the best. took her for intro and theory, class wasnt easy but wasnt hard. made learning fun and enjoyable.
I've taken Hodge for several classes. Absolutely the sweetest lady ever. Material is very straight forward. Very helpful, all you have to do is ask. Take her!
I had her a few years ago from Intro to CJ. The class was very easy and she's a great professor.
PowerPoint lectures, some book reading for randomly collected homework assignments, multiple choice exams given in class. A fairly easy class to pass if you put in a bit of effort. Hodge came across as fairly nice, but I found her difficult to communicate with over e-mail when I had questions about missing class over a funeral. Overall she's okay.
Professor Hodge is extremely approachable and teaches in a straightforward, easy-to-understand style; speakers are also interesting; I would recommend her for any course!
great teacher, by far one of the best CJS teachers at UNCC, highly reccomended
She is a great teacher and is very clear with all of here material. Her tests are from her lectures which come straight from the book, so you really don't need it unless you want it for extra practice. One piece of advice though, don't cheat on her tests or you will regret it. She gives reviews that goes over the each test, so go to them.
Any CJUS class Mrs. Hodge teaches, I have taken. She is a great professor, who truly cares about her students. She randomly takes up thought questions, which come straight from the book. Go to the test review! TAKE HER, you will LOVE HER!!
Everything on the tests is in her power points. She gives very good study guides to use. She knows a lot about what she's talking about. She also gets a lot of guest speakers to talk to us. Overall, very good professor.
I've taken every possible class with Hodge...so nice, great at explaining what it is you need to know. Will help you with anything you ask. Take her!
Professor Hodge made this class very interesting. Every few weeks she brought in professionals from a different branch of law enforcement too. You have 2 tests as well as a final exam. The first test was somewhat difficult, but the 2nd test and the final were not hard if you studied. Attendance is crucial and if you study you will do well!
Great teacher. Very humble. Clear and has a review before every exam of exactly what you should know. You are an idiot if you don't make a descent grade in the class. Doesn't have mandatory attendance but it is when she has guest speakers. The book will help you a lot but you don't NEED it to make a good grade. Take her!
Pretty easy class. I hardly ever go and I still make good grades on the tests. You have thought questions to answer almost every week but she rarely takes them up. I would recommend her, very easy.
Pretty straightforward class and professor. 1 quiz, a midterm, a final and a debate. Occasionally takes up questions from the textbook. Definitely would recommend taking Hodge for any CJUS class.
Hodge is really easy straight forward professor. the content of the class is really common sense and easy to grasp. She does a review for each test and the final is cumulative. She takes attendance randomly by taking up a thought question.
Such a great professor!!! She preps your for exactly what will be on the test...The power points are the test. On guest speaker days, she does take attendance and sometimes its random and does count toward your grade
Great Professor and Advisor!! Love taking classes with her
Lectures can be boring. But she is amazing! Gives review the day before tests... basically straight from the tests. Memorize review and you'll pass tests. Lovely lady and will help you with advising as well!
Good teacher. Told us at the beginning of the semester that we would need the book but you don't really need it if you go to every class and just take notes. Alot of cool guest speakers like fbi to listen to
She is so nice and she breaks down the material so it's understandable. She makes theories more interesting than they actually are, but it helps you retain the information. She gives easy assignments to bump your grade up, but they are kind of random.
3 test, study guide for each test, the third test was the cumulative final, Chapter reading assignment due almost every class (very simple), notes on moodle, the lecture were at times a little boring not because of her but the material. Professor Hodege is pretty straight forward and nice lady. Hands down one of the best professors I've had.
The material is hard but she makes it easy. 3 Test and 10% for attendance. DO NOT SKIP the test reviews because she tells you exactly what is on the test and what the answers are. Turner is also very good, stogner is terrible, but hodge is great. If you don't pass it is cause you didn't care or study for 30 minutes.
Prepare to learn in Professor Hodge's class! She is a very nice and funny professor. The class consists of small essays due at the beginning of each class from the current chapter, and two tests (midterm and final). Go to the review session because everything on the test will be covered there. Overall a easy class if you show up and read!
I learned so much in this class and would definitely take it again! The material was mediocre as far as difficulty but she made it interesting and made you want to keep learning
Great professor. Professor Hodge tries to make sure everyone understands the material in the most possible, simplest way. Every chapter she assigns will require you to write a short essay prior to the lecture and study guides/reviews are there before the exam.
Great class, not a CJUS major just took this class for electives. Seems by the title that it would be difficult but all the course consists of is 3 test and questions that are answered for attendance before each class. Gives a very specific study guide before each test as well.
One of the best professors I have ever had. If you show up and put in the effort to learn the material, you will get an A or a B. She assigns HW for each chapter but it is not hard at all and doubles as attendance. She also gives you a review before each test. I definitely recommend her for any CJUS class
GREAT teacher! She makes sure you understand the material, lectures are interesting especially for a CJ major. Textbook required for HW & HW is chapter summaries that she uses for attendance points (usually) due every class. She gives out study guides & reviews them before each exam, 3 exams, & final is cumulative. I would defiantly take her again!
Hodge is amazing! Interesting lectures and assigns an easy chapter question that also counts for attendance. She said the textbook was necessary, but I opened it maybe twice. Review sessions before the exam are KEY as there's a lot of material, but I got a 100 on the first exam, it's not difficult stuff. Definitely recommend her!
Criminological Theory is not an easy A course with any professor. The material is abstract and can be difficult to comprehend at times, however Hodge makes it so easy to understand. There are 3 tests, all of which she gives a study guide for, and 200 word topic questions that help boost your grade. Highly recommend Hodge for theory.
Super sweet. Lectures are straightforward and interesting. Has exam reviews the class before the exam and will list every topic that will be on the exam. The first exam is easier than the second. There is a cumulative final.
This professor is extremely inconsiderate and could careless about her students. She doesn't care about the success of her students and will do the minimum to help you. She acts as if you are not enrolled in any class other then hers. I would not recommend taking her unless you're willing to dedicate every second of your time to her class.
This is one of the best professors I have ever had. Study questions are the spitting image of the exam. If you don't pass you didn't review the material plain and simple. Thank you Mrs Hodge for being a professor that gives study guides that resemble the test! Would recommend all day
Best professor I have ever had. Class material and lectures were very interesting.
You have to read assigned textbook pages and answer questions, but it counts as attendance. Tests are easy, only if you study. She will give you the topics and go over the answers the day before the test. She will tell what she is looking for. The test is only short answer so you have to know the materail. Show up and you'll be fine.
Prof Hodge is amazing !! My favorite professor so far! There are 4 tests, and the final is commulative but she goes over everything on the exam the class before. If you do the homework and study the guide, you will pass easy.
Go to class and do the TQ's easy A. She is one the best teachers in the CJUS. Very thoughtful and can get you thinking about hot topics. Very reasonable when it comes to grading and she is very straightforward when it comes to tests. Take this teacher for any class if you can. You will be taught and you will actually learn something in the course
Professor Hodge made Criminological theory a fun and rewarding experience, for a class that is content-heavy. There is lots of information, but she provides amazing tests reviews. While attendance is not necessarily required, you have to submit Thought Questions, which are papers she collects arbitrarily. That is her way of attendance.
She is a great teacher.
She's okay. The usual professor. I usually dreaded her lectures but participation was easy. You have to bring in a 200 word assignment for participation and she collects it at random times. Those count as attendance but if you don't do them your grade goes down. Show up to review days. Tests aren't too bad.
During COVID. 15 chapters, 15 quiz, 1 midterm, 1 final. While reading chapters there is questions are multiple-choice throughout readings and some matching. Some questions allow up to three tries but will decrease in points. Quiz is only one time to get it right. Test is 10 questions and short answer, 75 min time limit. Simple class.
I enjoyed her class because she really wants you to learn the material. She encourages questions and group discussion. She will go back if you are not understanding the material. She takes her time and is willing to give extra help. The little assignments we do have are easy but you must read. She was made to be a professor, I recommend her.
B/C of Covid-19 this class went online. All we do is read the online book & take the quizzes. This class lacks substance & the teacher did bare minimum. Which is a disappointment. The class is easy online but in person its probably different. If you really want to learn the material don't take this class online. Overall its not a hard course.
Read a chapter each week and there are three assignments each week. u get 2 attempts on the first two and only 1 on the exam which is 25 multiple choice and 30 mins. Questions get repeated. Straight out the book. the midterm and final are 50 multi-choice questions and 75 mins. There was a lockdown browser for the final. There is no lectures
Pretty easy class. The main assignments are on Pearson revel. The only assignments that arent on Pearson is the midterm and final exam which requires lockdown browser on canvas. If you study the terms she tells you to study you will pass the exams. Easy grade.
Professor Hodge does not care about the students that she teaches. I am taking her class online during the pandemic, and she was absolutely horrible as a teacher. She did not care about the emails that were sent to her. We used an online textbook and there were so many problems, and she did not care about it not working. I WOULD NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
The worst Professor I ever had. This class was a loose end from the very start. She didn't really care for her students. It's funny to have a dean in the CJUS department represent this way. Pearson was horrible. Our grades weren't assessed correctly. There were mistakes every single week. Y'all don't take this course with Professor Hodge.
I would NOT recommend taking this class to anyone. It was an absolutely terrible experience. All of the work was done through PearsonRevel which had a ton of difficulties, and grades were not accurate. You get no instruction from Ms. Hodge and the reviews are unhelpful. Do yourself a favor and avoid this class with her.
I think this class in person would have been different, but online it was awful. The tests were incredibly difficult, and Pearson Revel (which was the only teaching tool) was wonky. There are only four grades for the course with no extra credit, so if you don't do well on one, you won't do well in the course. Would not recommend unless in class.
Not sure why the last two reviewers said she didn't care. She literally gave us 6 extra points on our final exam. Also to make up for any Pearson mistakes she gave us a free 100% on an assignment and put it in canvas. On one of the bugged Pearson quizzes, she gave us a free 100% on that too. She wouldn't give us free 100s if she didn't care.
Professor Hodge is great! I had some personal issues outside of class this semester which is why I'm dropping it, but I loved the class and hope I can take it with her again.
Amazing lectures, cannot stress that enough. You have to go to the class to get the content. Textbook required but we only used them once. Really interesting course. Make sure to go to the review sessions, most of your grade is made up of the four exams. Honestly an amazing professor, would take the class again if I could.
Great professor! Is upfront from the beginning of what the class consists of. No surprises. Homework is easy and helps to learn the material. Always gives study guides and tests are straightforward. Youll learn a lot simply by attending her lectures.
Only get graded on TQs and Exams. Lectures are kept interesting and engaging. Not a boring class overall. Her two tests are hard but final exam is easy. Make sure you attend class, it helps you be able to write more for the TQs. Textbook was recommended but honestly didnt use but once or twice. Attendance was never taken. Would take her again.
Decent lectures but she would let people go on and on about points that were completely unrelated to the topic at hand. Almost no time commitment required, since there were no assignments aside from TQs and exams BUT 90% of your grade came from exams with almost no feedback, and no extra credit points. Not my style but an A is possible if you study
Changed majors after taking her class. Little to no real experience in the criminal justice field and spews nonsense in lectures. Most of the class is graded on 3 exams and weekly writing assignments, both of which have no feedback. Take another professor.
My favorite professor so far. She really knows what she is talking about and makes sure that the class is absorbing the material. You have a 200 word submission every week, 2 tests, and then the final exam. Even though you turn in many short answer submissions, the three tests overall make up about 85% of your grade so really study for them.
I loved learning about theories and why people commit crime to begin with. The only thing I would recommend is to make sure you really study for the tests, because there are only a few they make up a big portion of your grade. Her lectures are engaging and she connects crim theory to her personal experiences and it keeps the course interesting.
She's a great professor, and you'd love her class. She's very passionate and you can tell she likes what she does. It's interesting but it 's graded by few things and it can be hard to get a good grade if you mess up on 1/3 exams. Final exam is worth 35% of your final grade and it can be stressing. Be ready to read and answer to weekly prompts.
Good professor, lectures were interesting. She's very helpful if you have questions about the major. Tests are 50 questions and final is 100 questions. Make sure to study. Textbook provides some extra information, but we really only used it a couple of times in the beginning. It helps with weekly discussion assignments though.
I found this course challenging primarily because most of your grade is depended on 3 test grades, although you have a 250 word essay each week that doesn't raise your grade but if you don't do it, it tanks it. There is no extra credit, so if you do bad on the first test don't expect to raise your grade!!
It took me a bit to warm up to Professor Hodge, but once you get used to her she is a good teacher. This class contains a LOT of content, so be ready to STUDY. You're graded on 3 tests (the final is worth 30% of your grade), 13 short response papers, and 2 in class activities. Attendance is not mandatory, but go to class to do better!!!
She is a very good teacher, respectful and fun. Test are really really eassyyyy. As long as you read it and see the PowerPoints you will get 100. She is recommended.
She is such an amazing professor and an inspiration for women wanting to join the CJ field. This class was really hard, tests are worth almost all of your grade. However I would take her she is such a passionate professor, and she is always there to help you. The material is very memorization-heavy, but it is really interesting.
I have taken two classes with Professor Hodge and I absolutely love her. Even though the test are on paper, in person, and kind of hard, she does a review class before the test going oven almost everything on the test. If you try you will do okay. Participate in her lectures even though they are not mandatory. The best CJUS teacher I have had.
Professor Hodge makes this class very interesting and adds personal anecdotes to relate theories into real-world scenarios. We had a total of 8 pop quizzes and they were given at the end of class. The tests aren't too difficult if you pay attention in class and study the material. I would take this class again.
Really nice and accommodating. Her class is pretty straightforward. Exams are worth 20% of your grade each but the study guide covers all the material. Final was easy as well.
Professor Hodge may seem intimidating because of the 8 pop quizzes she gives, but if you pay attention and are actively aware of what's going on in class, then the pop quizzes should be light work. If you're taking her in person, make sure to go. Her lectures are fast but very easy to understand! Trust, she's a nice person and knows how to teach.
