This lady would make a nice grandmother but she sucks asa teacher, extremlly boring and long she takes to the last second, she has youbasically re copying the textbook, you can do exra credit, but you dred going to class
HOlt is a great teacher. She is very caring and gives alot of extra credit.
She's a wonderful professor. She really cares about students and is very understanding. I'd recommend her to anyone.
There is a lot of note taking! Cares about her students doing well and explains so that everyone understands. I would definately recommned her!
Take LOTS of notes, but she repeats and makes sure you get them down. She assignes 4 Articles...but you only have to answer questions for one..Exams are fair, if you study and go over notes. A very nice lady who wants to see her students do well..I would recommend!
this class was worth it. it gets really boring sometimes, and you take LOTS of notes, but she is a very fair grader and gives you 3 chances for extra credit..i did all three which brought my grade up A LOT.tests are decent as long as you study.
she is a great professor, she answers questions gives extra credit. she want you to suceed and doesnt give you hell.
one of the best professors i ever had, she is amazing. she LOVES what she does and you can tell by the way she teaches. the only bad thing is you take A TON of notes, but thats all you need to study for the exams... every professor should be like her
To do well, write down what she says, and study your notes. Very nice and friendly. Gives a lot of extra credit, and curves exams. Only two tests and one paper. I learned a lot. I can see how class could seem boring, but atleast she makes it clear what you need to know to do well.
Easy class, easy and nice lady. All tests are based directly on the notes. Very easy to do well.
She moves quick, but she loves discussions & welcomes them. She gives very little homework, but attending classes is important bc she gives so many notes & tests from her notes. The book is not really needed for class...she teaches directly from her notes. She's happy to meet after classes for any extra assistance you might need,VERY nice woman!
Boring. Don't waste money on recommended book.
Doesnt like people to have opinions on topics other than her own. Tries to interupt you if she doesnt like what your saying. Not the nicest woman either. Wouldnt recommend taking a class with her. TONS OF NOTES!
Very nice lady... She is all about notes. She doesn't believe in power point so, she reads her notes to the class over and over and over again. You really have to study for her tests because you never know whats going to be on the test.
BORING. But easy A. All she does is read notes out loud and you copy them. Big waste of money on book- never used. Tests are easy- multiple choice, but again very boring.
Sweet woman but boring. You have to go to every class to get the tons of notes that are on the test. Dont bother getting the books--I never used it and its expensive. The article hw sucked--long and only a week to do if you have a busy schedule that week. The best of the first two exams is counted twice. extra credit. but def. boring.
The class is somewhat boring, but it is really easy if you attend the classes and get the notes, which make up the majority of the test questions. It does help to read the textbook though, because some of the test questions come from the book. Also, it's easier to remember the info.
Seems like she should have retired years ago... All lecture, no stories or real interaction with the students, tests are from the notes and the book but the book is never discussed in class, multiple choice but pretty hard.
Very boring but pretty easy. She talks to her students like we are little kids..repeats everything she says over and over. but if you take good notes (which since she repeats everything is so easy) you'll get a good grade no problem.
She is a very nice lady who tries really hard. The class is kind of boring b/c all she does is read notes and you copy. All exams are multiple choice but they aren't easy. Go to the class even though it's boring b/c you need her notes to do well on the exam. She gives extra credit which is a plus.
she seems nice but she didn't seem to like me. make sure you bring your laptop to take notes, because otherwise your hand will be cramping and you'll have to buy a new notebook in a week. she gives long wordy notes that are really hard to study since there is so much. overall i wouldn't recommend this class.
If you want to learn anything about lifespan development with this teacher you better start taking notes form a friend who takes this class with a different teacher, or start reading the book religously. Anyone taking her, good luck, you will need it if you expect to pass the class with at least a C.
Pretty much you will take notes all class, but it could be worse. She gives a manditory article reading that you have to write a 2p paper on. Not hard but was just a bummer, but prob since we were used to having no homework all semester. Test every other week but is multiple choice- study a little and will b fine. Never used textbook- dont buy.
Acts like a grandma. Easy teacher, easy going, easy class. 10 assignments (one per week) - easy grade. Basically tells you how to put a resume together and market yourself in the psychology field, but as if your grandma is telling you how. A waste of a time for a class... but take her if you have a choice.
This class is boring. BUT, Dr.Holt is a really nice professor and I really liked her. Sometimes the class isnt boring due to interesting topics and the way she starts a class discussion. Not hard to do well in the this class. All you have to do is and take notes. And study the notes. The tests are not hard and take advantage of ex. credit! lots =)
I really liked Holt. She is very nice but it is a boring class. You take notes the whole time so it is important to go to class. But if you study your notes, you do fine. Exams are 25q multiple choice and lots of extra credit. She is very nice and very willing to help. I will be taking PSY 236 with her next semester. Easy class, just do the work.
Pretty much notes every day but the class is straight forward. The mandatory research studies are annoying, especially if you don't live on campus, but they're mandatory for all psy classes. Holt gives opportunities for extra credit and is a very nice lady.
Life-Span and Development with her was soooo easy. I don't know why some people in my class did so bad. All the exams are multiple choice and you only have to write one paper on one article. She covers everything that will be on the exams so you should always take notes and not miss classes. This class is super easy but i still learned alot!
Tons of homework for a 1-credit class - easy but time-consuming. Lots of guest speakers who talk about psych- and career-related topics, resumes, interviewing, etc. Professor means well but sometimes it feels like she's talking down to you. Not the most exciting class but if you show up to every class and do all the work, it's an easy A.
Excessive note taking, but just study the notes, do the easy assignments, and take advantage of the two extra credits - and you'll do fine. Her notes were sometimes hard to study because their some difficult wording. She overall is an easy professor if you GO to class.
Awesome professor. Just write down exactly what she says and that's what the multiple choice test will be. I didn't even have to study to get an A. She also gives several extra credit opportunities.
Had her for exploring...lot's of hw. Biopsyc she loads you with info to memorize. She is really credible, likes if you speak up, and is a great professor.
expected this class to be more interesting but she's not a bad teacher. all you do is take notes all class and then have exams. all exams are 25 multiple choice questions, if you study your notes and pay attention you'll do fine. she also gives plenty of chances to raise your grade. i recommend her for anyone who is worried about gpa! haha
great teacher. never used the textbook. just study your notes and you'll get As on the tests. easy class. really understanding teacher. also took her for psy 112 found psy 236 easier after having her prior. would highly recommend her
I never even opened my textbook and I still did well on all the tests. The class consists of straight lecturing so be prepared to write. For tests if you just review your notes several times, you will do well. She loves to tell stories that are hilarious.
Such a nice old lady! She expects work done and done on time. No exceptions! She also expects you in class! The class itself was helpful, we did practice resumes, job searches, interviews, etc. Shes more than happy to help you during office hours also. Overall a good prof!
She is such a nice lady. The class was very helpful. We learned about resumes, internships, and different fields you can go into for psychology. The class is an easy A if you do the HW assignments given and go to class.
Sweet lady! Her voice can sometimes put you to sleep so i wouldnt recommend her for 8am although she can sometimes have alot of energy for an elderly woman. Takes attendance. Assignments are easy..guest speaker at almost every class.Easy A! Dont take the class if youre trying to get your moneys worth.
She is nice but this class is pure lecture and she didn't make it very interesting. I wish it had not been because the subject matter is fascinating. It wasn't a difficult class and all you have to do is study the notes for tests. I wish I had taken it with Dr. Fallahi. I've heard she is more difficult, but the class is more interesting.
She is very nice, but her voice kind of throws me off, its like she is talking to 5 year old. Study the notes, and the subjects that are about the notes in the book. (ie. if you are talking about classical conditioning, study your notes and what the book says about it). She takes attendance, and gives out extra credit every once and a while.
She is old-school - my class has about 40 students so it's fairly impersonal. She is a little passive-aggressive - will not take work late. Test questions are worded very differently from text and lectures so that is the hardest part I noticed.
The information was interesting, however she made it extremely boring due to her monatone voice and lack of enthusiasm. I would not recommend her for an early morning or 3 hour class (of which I did both). All lecture made the class very boring.
I took Dr. Holt for PSY236, and I have to say, the hardest part was the large difference between what she talked about in class, and what was on each test. I felt prepared for each test, only to find questions I felt had no connection to what we had talked about in class, or that simply did not make grammatical sense.
I do not recommend Dr. Holt based on my experiences in her class. She often seemed to be trying to hide her frustration with students over marginal things and seemed to give just a lecture, and then run out the door. She was not very engaging and made it worse by spending about half of each lecture reading off definitions for us to copy down.
Definitely not one of the clearest professors. I doubt I was the only one going into exams, who felt prepared based on notes from her lectures and the book, only to find names and terminology we had not covered. She seems marginally interested in her students' success. I was surprised she didn't even learn my name by the end of the semester!
The textbook was never used once so don't buy it! But this class was an easy class.. all you have to do is take your notes and then study those and you'll do well on the test! However she talks fast so sometimes it's hard to follow but she allows extra credit!
The class itself isn't hard but its almost as if she tries to make it hard. All she does is lecture that literally is it. Good luck keeping up though because she talks super fast. As for repeating when you miss.. oh you should have been listening (even though you were). Sorry not recommended.
She repeats everything and uses really annoying pitches - her voice is no better - she repeats things at least 3 times. Book is never used. Tough class - exams are worded obnoxiously weird - even if you do study. Laughs at everything. ***Avoid her class***
I'd rather have my teeth pulled than go to this class. If you want to listen to someone read page after page of notes out loud to you for an hour and a half, this class is for you. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. She never uses the book or assigns homework so that's a serious benefit. She's a nice lady, but the class is so painful by the end of it I am manic.
nice lady. very demanding class though. 11 quizes, 2 cumulative tests 100 questions each. 1 research paper and 1 reflection paper. class is very boring, but she is really nice.
This class is great because you can connect with every part of the course. Holt lectures, which helps you get all of the notes down and her exams correspond with everything she says. As long as you go to class or know someone with good notes, you're golden. There's one assignment and the rest of the grade is 5 easy/short exams.
This professor speaks with varying dynamics in her voice so it isnt boring to listen to her speak. She asks questions to the class to reinforce what she just taught. Very easy class. Just take notes every single class and youll easily pass.
Lots of chances for extra credit, extremely fair. She lectures all class every class, so be prepared to take a ton of notes.
Long, informative lectures.
All I can say is to definitely study the material and do not ever skip class. Good teacher and material isn't difficult, but pages of notes are taken every class and are necessary to pass exams.
She's a nice lady and will help you if you ask; The test are very specific and you must read the book to help yourself understand the material.
Long lectures almost every single class, but no midterm and the final is only 25 questions long. She's very informative and interesting to listen to, even if you don't like the material. Textbook isn't mandatory and neither is attendance, but either going to class or reading the book is essential to passing, and both is required to get a good grade
Should go to class because that's how you will learn. The book isn't necessary for this class. She gives long lectures which take up the whole class time. Test are essay they are Murillo choice and 25 questions including the final. Very nice lady.
Dr. Holt is a true professional in the psychology field and it really shows in the way she teaches. Her lectures can be boring but as soon as she feels she is losing the class she pulls everyone back in with an activity or an interesting story. Her tests are very straight forward and are the same format every time. I would take her again.
Very nice lady, lectures are boring but the class is easy and doesn't require much work outside of class. Its an easy class as long as you put in the minimal effort. Test are short but there are notes after the class. She is willing to repeat material if asked.
Take her you wont regret it ! Very understandable professor, going to class is a must because she does not use blackboard. If you go to class the exams are so easy 25 multiple choice, drops the lowest grade, tons of extra credit.
Holt is a great professor!!! She is very clear during lectures and makes sure you get every word down before moving on. Tests cover up to 3 chapter each... as long as you memorize notes and read chapters briefly, you'll be golden. Make sure you attend class though because a lot of material is covered in just 50 minutes!
Professor holt's class was easy. She lectures and there are 5 exams on those lectures. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunity and is there for her students to help them succeed. DO NOT buy the textbook. You do not use or need it at all.
Overall, an easy A and I actually learned to. You do take a lot of notes, so if you miss a class and do not get the notes from a classmate you will be in trouble. The test are pretty straight forward if you study enough and skim through the textbook chapters once or twice. You must do everything exactly the way she wants for the journals though.
Professor Holt is probably the nicest teacher I have ever had. The class has very long lectures, but she is always willing to help. Extra credit opportunities and the final was not cumulative.
Easy A if you take notes and show up. She takes attendance EVERY class so don't be late. Don't bother buying a textbook, you won't use it. Really annoying voice, sounds monotone like the push-up test. Don't miss an exam because she won't let you make it up no matter the circumstances (surgery, funeral, etc.) At least she drops your lowest grade.
Boooriiiiing. Seems like a nice professor and cracks a few jokes here and there but the lecture is very boring, poor study guides and doesn't make powerpoints or writes notes on board.
Nice lady, confusing class. Her class is entirely made up of reading definitions from the textbook for you to write down. Tests are oddly worded and use specific examples/stories she tells in class. Study guides online and tell you what to NOT study rather than what to study. Not tech-savvy, will not answer emails you send to her quickly or at all
The overall class was pretty easy. Dr. Holt lectures for the whole class. You take notes the whole time and she repeats things if you ask her to. There are only 5 exams, no midterm, and the final isn't cumulative. There's only one "major" assignment and it's just reading an article and answering questions. We never used the book.
She is a nice teacher, but it is so hard to stay focused in that class cause she can be boring. I understand the class is lecture based, but some professors are good with keeping it interesting, unlike her. Tests often but they are short and easy. Just study and take and take good notes because they are unstructured.
Not to toot my own horn but Im a 4.0 student. I put in the work and my grades reflect. In Susan Holts class, you put in the work and still can end up doing poorly. She doesnt teach, she stands in the front and talks until the last min of class. You end up with pages and pages of notes and exams are just 25 mult. choice so goodluck guessing!
Super easy class if you take time to learn the vocab and skim the chapters. Probably would've done better if I had cared earlier in the semester. Need to know lots of people and what they did/their theories. Few assignments, and she drops the lowest test grade and doubles your highest.
I can honestly say she is the worst professor. I was out of class with a concussion for a week & missed an exam. She refused to let me make it up even with a medical note. I told her it was unfair & told me she didn't care. Tried going above her but right now, no progress. She does not care about her students or if they pass or fail what so ever.
Professor Holt was a really nice professor, but I found that I had pages and pages of lecture notes only for there to be 25 multiple choice question exams. It made it really hard to guess what questions were going to be on the test. Be prepared cause there's an exam about every week and a half/2 weeks.
Professor Holt's class is mainly lecture. There were times were there were group assignments, but it is mostly her speaking and you taking notes. Paying attention is KEY. If you miss one class, you'll be lost
The professor got switched right at the beginning of the semester and it was rough. The lectures are almost word for word from the PowerPoint, and you just stare at her home screen and not even the slides. Horribly written syllabus, and very few responses to emails. I want to give her some slack because of the online format, but I was disappointed.
I took Life Span asynchronous this fall semester. She was okay but soooo many lectures. I managed and it was fine but the lectures were always over an hour. They were over an hour because she talked extremely slowly. EXTREMELY. Overall the class wasn't bad but beware of the 4 articles, they're hard. 12 pages and lots of questions.
Prof. Holt was accommodating to my schedule, since she switched the course to online-asynch at the last minute. However, her lectures were quite talk heavy and very boring to sit through. Tests are super specific and you often need to read/sift through all the chapters and PPT "notes" in order to pass the tests.
Dr. Holt is very lecture-heavy and the class is very long and boring. She has very few accommodations for the students who are struggling in class. The exams consist of textbook material and the articles we read in class. It feels almost impossible to pass, as she had to give us extra credit for everyone to pass.
lectures were long, and not very engaging. Lots of material that was covered during lectures did not end up on the test. Tests are about every other week and consist of material on PowerPoints + article discussions. Grade is made up of tests, and article discussions.
Professor Holt is very lecture heavy, and her powerpoints are no use. If you miss a class you are missing out on information that could potentially be on the exam. There is a lot of material to study for these exams, both from the notes written and from the book. Also, there are 4 article discussions. Not a hard class just a lot of material.
An old educator. She lacks teaching methods, no ability to make content interesting or fun to learn. BE PREPARED TO WRITE OR TYPE ALL YOUR NOTES! Lecture heavy, verbally reads off power-points that lack details. The powerpoint only has vague bullet points. Grading is reflected from exams! I almost withdrew but scraped my teeth to get a B. STUDY!!!!
The quizzes were fairly easy, they were all multiple choice. Each quiz was only worth 25 points. She spoke very slowly and her slides contained few words. She took attendance every class, but no points were deducted from my final grade for missing 4 classes. She takes a couple days to respond to emails, but overall she was a nice professor.
honestly such a sweet lady. she makes sure you understand the material before the tests and is always there if you need help. the class is very lecture heavy but she allows individuals to participate.
This class was a lecture every class with no homework. The whole course was based off of 4 exams and a final, with the lowest score dropped. Just hard because there was nothing to bring your grade up, so it heavily depended on those 25 multiple choice exams. Lectures also very boring and hard to follow.
Prof Holt is a very sweet lady. She lectures for 3 chapters and then gives a test. The tests are tricky if you do not study, so study. No homework, other than reading an article due before each test. No midterm.
I loved this class. She lectures the entire time, so if that is not your thing do not take her. I loved it. The tests are easy, 25 questions. 5 tests a semester (including final). Take notes and listen and it's an easy class.
