seems a little odd at first but she is a great teacher and her test are from questions right off of homework assignments so it is easy!
Her lectures are very boring. You get lots of extra points on your tests for simply going to class. If you study you can get an A in this class. Never used the textbook. But you need the access code to complete homework. She came from Texas Tech, so you can look at her ratings from there too!
She assigns homeworks weekly that are anywhere from 45-85 questions long. They aren't too difficult and quizlet has the answers 85% of the time. She also uses the homeworks as test questions on her tests. She gives 3 tests plus a final and drops your lowest test grade. Her lectures are very dry, but it was an easy A.
Professor Holtz is so too sweet. She likes to use humor in her lectures but really knows her stuff. Although lectures were boring for me (I have low interest in physics) she does the best she can to make it engaging. Did poorly on tests but good on attendance and homework - so I got bumped a letter grade! Thanks to her grading system, I got a 99
Holtz is quite the character. She's pretty quirky but I found it funny. She offers extra credit if you fill in the role sheet correctly. Her tests were 100% straight from the homework. Despite getting low A's on the test, I managed to get a 100 in that class from all the extra credit just by coming to class and doing the homework.
Don't need to be good a physixs to make an a, super easy, she literally takes the exact problem from homeworks worth same answer choices and that is your test!
Professor Holtz is a pretty good professor. She is really knowledgeable, but her lectures get really boring really quickly. Attendance isn't mandatory, and as long as you do the homeworks, you can pretty much do fine in the class. She also gives like 10 points extra credit on your final grade for various things over the semester.
She is funny in her own way. I am serious, she can make a class laugh in her own way. She does a lot of hand on visualization for the class to understand the material. Extra credit is given.
Susan Holtz was very good at teaching physics. I am not a big science fan however she relates it to real life. She has cheesy jokes, and is enjoyable to be around. She offers three tests, one dropped, and comprehensive final(easy). This class is an easy A, I did bad on all tests and still got an A bc of extra cred., in class participation, and hw!
There are 3 tests (lowest grade dropped) and a cumulative final. There is homework assigned as well as learning catalytics. Most of the questions on the test come from those. I got Cs on the the test and manage to get an A in the class. If you do all the homework and extra-credit assignments then you will do extremely well in the class.
She is honestly one of the best professors Ive ever had. She's so sweet and enthusiastic about what she does/teaches and gets really excited about each topic. I normally really struggle with physics but Holtz made everything so easy to understand. The key to earning an A is going to class and taking good notes. If you can do that, you'll be fine.
this teacher is amazing. easy class. tests are from homework and online learning catalytics . interesting class. homeworks are easy. do recommend it.
Test are kinda hard but you just have to study your homework problems and you'll be fine. She's pretty funny and loves what she teaches.
Super easy course, the tests are made up from the homework questions (lots of homework- but google helps). Holtz is super sweet, and really funny. Would take her again.
Too easy, if you don't make a A or a B in her class that means you are super lazy and never even went to class. I learned a lot in this class and she makes lectures interesting. Tests are Homework questions, Final is over previous Test questions. Too easy, no excuses.
Mrs. Holtz is a sweet lady, she has a goofy sense of humor. If you go to class and do your homework it is an easy A. I got low C's on the test (didn't study) and still got an A in the class. The homework is long but the answers are online. The tests are made up of HW questions. The final is previous test questions I made a 96 on the final. TAKE HER
She offers LOTS of extra credit. She's very sweet and anytime you email with questions she replies almost instantly. I never enjoyed science until her course. I highly recommend.
SUPER EASY!!!!! TAKE!!!! a lot of homework assignments but its super easy and can be fiind on quizlet. tests are so easy and exactly homework questions. you DONT need the book.
Holtz is the best STEM teacher I've ever had. She has a great sense of humor that keeps up through the whole course. Homework is all online, and she won't remind you of it, but if you make notes in your planner for when it is scheduled, you'll be fine.
All of the homework assignments are on quizlet as well as the tests. She uses the ENTIRE lecture period to talk but sometimes uses silly demonstrations to make it somewhat more interesting. In the end I made an A so I would definitely take her again.
You're paying for school, come to class. I made an A and that was with C's on tests. Pay attention in class and read the book fro extra understanding. The MasteringPhysics questions are on the tests so make sure to know those answers. Her lectures are sometimes funny but Physics is interesting and she tries her best to keep everybodys attention.
Easy A! Do the mastering physics homework, although it is long, it is all on quizlet. The tests are basically made up of homework questions, so make sure to study those. Final is over the 3 tests taken during semester. Made a 96 on the final. She gives so much extra credit, it's impossible not to do well in this course!! Don't need the book.
My easiest A at Texas State. Homework comes straight from quizlet. Tests come straight from homework. Final comes straight from previous 3 tests. She drops the lowest test grade and you are required to take the final. Offers 10 points extra credit based off a 100 point class. Lectures put you to sleep but show up to do learning Catalytics
Seriously, take this class! I should have gotten an F but with all the extra credit and curves she gives I got a C, and I probably could have gotten a B if I turned some other stuff in and went to class more. She is very nice and kinda quirky. There are 3 tests (25 each & lowest dropped), homework (10), class work (10), paper (3), and final (27).
Easiest class ever. The class can be boring but she loves what she does. I made a 108% in the class and almost failed in high school. This should tell you something. TAKE HER. Quizlet is your best friend for this class in relation to homework and tests!!
She's nice but whatever you do don't get caught texting in class. Homework is required, tests are pretty hard but she drops one test grade. You don't really need the book. Attendance is mandatory and you have to do Learning Catalytics in class lots of days. Its a pretty boring class but you can make a good grade if you pay attention and do homework
There's no reason that anyone should get below a B. You show up, pay attention, and then just do the work. The homework is easy since 95% of the answers are on quizlet. Show up to class since you get points for participation. Tests are ok. I didn't study and I got a B in the class. Study for them and you will get an A. Take this class.
You need decent attendance (75%+) unless you're an absolute physics whiz. People with little or no physics experience/knowledge will need regular studying. HW + in-class activities are big portion of grade but she definitely wants you to pass. LOVELY albeit semi-disorganized woman. Going to class and taking notes 95% of semester will get most an A
Professor Holtz was a great professor. All you have to do is show up, pay attention in class, take decent notes, and study for exams which are about as easy as high school ones. Answers for quizzes are all on Quizlet. The one down side is she hates phones & laptops, but SHE WILL CURVE YOUR FINAL GRADE MASSIVELY AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER!
So the whole semester I had a B because of the tests and had a B right up until she put in the homework and learning catalytic's grades into TRACS. She knows there are computer issues so she only counts like half of the homework. Homework is on quizlet. Test are homework. Somehow mad like a 100 in the class. Go to class, do homework, and don't txt
She was sweet and funny! If you go to class, take notes, do the homework; you should be fine. The homework is the test, so study the homework (even if you don't feel like it; just study it) and that's already like a 85 on the test!!! Don't buy the book because she never used it.
Holtz puts on a decent class. She is strict on phones and laptops. Her grading is very lenient and theres alot of room for error(I made over 100%). Her lectures are long and sluggish. My high school physics class was harder than this honestly. Do the HW, go to class, and study the night before and you will do just fine.
Awesome Professor! She gives 3 tests, then drops the lowest grade, then one mandatory final. Quizlet is your friend! Homework is mandatory and part of the grade, but it's not too much. Lots of extra credit!
Profesor Holtz is such a sweetheart. She welcomes students to come during her office hours and gives lots of opportunities for extra credit. Go to class, she gives extra credit at random through attendance and do the online HW!! I had a solid C and finished with a B thanks to all the extra credit. Taking her again in the spring :)
Prof Holtz tries her best to make lectures interesting, but honestly they're really boring :/ I've never been one to skip class and I skip this class quite a bit. Her lectures, I feel, don't match up well with the exams.. A lot of the homework is on the exams, but you aren't given a study guide or any heads up on what will be on the exam. Study.
She is unbelievably knowledgable in her subject and relates topics to everyday things which makes it easier to understand. There is a lot of homework in her class but it is all extremely relevant to whats going to be on her test. I failed physics in high school but made an A in this course. Take her, she's great.
Awesome Professor! Very passionate about teaching astronomy & she had this goofy attitude most of the time. As long as you show up & take notes you should do fine. Class is all lecture with a few in class activities here and there. Weekly homework, 3 tests plus a final & drops your lowest grade. Does not allow any phones/laptops.
She is very passionate about Astronomy and it really shows in her lectures, which are very interesting because of it. She takes attendance which isn't for a grade but she occasionally does an online thing in class for credit. There are 4 tests including the final (which is cumulative) that come straight from the homework.
Professor Holtz wasn't bad, she tries to make the class interesting but sometimes I think she expects too much out of an Elementary Physics course. LOTS of homework on Pearson's Mastering Physics, DO NOT get behind on homework, it will build up. Tests are based partially on homework and partially on what you learned in class so take good notes.
Very silly and tried to make lectures fun, but for someone that isn't big on science it can be difficult. NO PHONES AT ALL during lecture, she will stop if she sees you. All tests are in class, homework is all online, multiple per week. She does NOT give out a course schedule with the syllabus, just tentative test dates. Drops a test but not final.
Really cool and fun professor!! She really loves astronomy and you can tell. She gets really excited during lecture and makes the class really interesting. The online book is required and the homework it gives is kind of hard, but she drops a lots of those grades. Tests are based on the homework, but are easy if you study. Dr. Holtz is awesome!!
She was decent. I will admit as a non-science lover, it's a little bit more difficult to be "good" in my eyes, but she was still alright. Tried to make lectures fun, most of the time didnt really work, but she is very knowledgeable. Accessible outside of class if you need help. Tests are a little difficult but if you do the hw shouldn't be too bad.
worst professor i have had at texas state. only took astronomy for science credit, but not worth it. she is very anal about electronics and does not post her notes/slides online. lectures are very boring and not easy to follow along with. plus early in the morning, her voice is not what you want to hear.
She is very passionate and seems like she likes teaching the course. Stay off your phone in class.
I am not the type to skip class, but professor Holtz's lectures made me skip pretty much every class. Her lectures arent the most interesting and she pretty much reads from the power points. I did not really try in this class and still got a B.
Professor Holtz is deeply caring and funny. Does not post slides on TRACS, but everything can be found online. Tons of extra credit (I didn't pass a single exam and still made an A because I did all the homework and showed up every day). Show up and you'll be alright.
If you're just trying to get an easy science credit out of the way take this class! Science is not my thing but it's a relatively interesting class. Dr. Holtz provides so much extra credit for doing well on the online HW there's no way you can fail! She is a stickler about phones and laptops but other than that she's a solid choice.
She is super super passionate about the subject she is teaching which makes going to class so easy, her passion is contagious almost. I will say all the information you need comes from the textbook and not so much her powerpoints. BUT she is so ready to answer a question for you, and there is a ton of extra credit opportunities. She is fantastic
*DO NOT* take Holtz if you cannot bear to put your phone/laptop away for an hour. I loved this class as I found the material itself fascinating and it was taught very well. Astronomy has physics in it, so don't register for this course only to get mad that you have to understand physics! Just show up, pay attention, and you can easily get an A!
This class is terrible, she talks so much and is such a drag. I barely go to class, homeworks are like a hour and a half each. The material is not easy to understand dont take assuming you will breeze by. Because you wont
took for mandatory sci credit. bad lectures, bad attitude, no one is engaged, I have no idea what is going on. no study guides given and doesn't post slides. makes us do online work during class to prepare for tests but doesn't tell us what the right answers are. doesn't upload grades until end of semester. i maintain a 4.0 GPA but am failing.
Currently taking her class and she only has one thing in the grade book. She's absolutely terrible and is even worse now that we are online. She doesn't interact with us in zoom when we ask questions and does not care about our transition. She never explains anything or tries to help us when we ask questions during lectures. Constant busy work.
She doesn't do class. Her classes are just to ask questions. So attendance is not mandatory at all. She posts lectures online, but I didn't look at them. I just used the textbook to take notes on everything. Super easy class
She was ok, not the greatest and her lectures sounded like she was trying too hard. We had to be in groups and do group work every week, but that was alright and it was the only way I got through the class. Make sure to read, it is the only thing that might make sense.
One of the easiest classes I've ever had. No tests in this class only quizzes every chapter. For the quizzes you are allowed to use your homework, which have every answer to the quiz. If you take your time you can get 100% on every one. She drops the 2 lowest quiz grades, and the 5 lowest homework grades. Great class to boost GPA.
Professor Holtz was so good! This class is a very easy A if you just need a science credit. She was very clear on the grading criteria, very communicative to give you a heads up for due dates, and very attentive outside of class. Highly recommend Professor Holtz, she is awesome!
Textbook is included in tuition. I didn't ever read it and got a 103% in the class, most answers are online. Quizzes over the material each week are around 10 questions and are straight from the homework (which tells you the answer), and everything is open book including using the homework for quizzes. I never listened to a lecture, read the book.
She really loves what she teaches. I took it online anytime, and it was super easy. Four group projects through the semester. Gives several chances of quizzes and tests.
Professor Holtz is AMAZING! She genuinely cares about how you're doing individually and how you're doing in a group setting. Her course was set up so there are 4 major group projects and luckily I had some amazing group members. Her feedback is always positive, she sends weekly emails checking in, and she holds sessions just to chat! (:
Very kind professor. Lecture videos weren't mandatory, all homework is straight from textbook. Usually 3 chapter homework and a quiz due each week. 4 group projects throughout the semester that weren't very difficult. Grading is straight forward. She sends cute emails about what's happening in the sky every now and then!
Professor Holtz is really caring and easy to communicate with. Her lectures aren't anything special; however, the class is very easy. She offers a lot of extra credit and drops your worst grades. Overall, she is a pretty solid professor.
She is AMAZING! So there are online assignments and quizzes based on the online book and if you read the sections you'll do great. There also some group projects but the projects let you be creative and are fun. The class is really interesting and I definitely recommend taking this class!
This class was very fun to take. She emails her students every week with updates which were always helpful. The homework was really easy and straight from the textbook. This is one of the only classes where I actually enjoyed reading the textbook. She does have lecture videos you can watch but they're not mandatory.
very caring, drops a couple lowest grades on homework and quizzes. reading seems like a lot but very easy and interesting. she emails weekly. very easy A and doable. would recommend her.
easy A, everything is online and on most answers are on quizlet . 3 group projects, and no tests. really easy grader and super nice in her emails!
Very easy course for someone who is just looking to get their science credit out of the way. Professor offers a lot of assignments and she has great communication via Canvas.
I never met the professor, but this course was so easy. If you need a science credit but don't like science or want an easy class, take this one. There are easy group projects and your grade is mostly made up of quizzes but everything is online so it is very easy. She's passionate about space & provides a ton of info for those that are interested.
Love this professor. sends weekly emails. 4 simple group projects. Lectures are easy just make sure to not put it off or you will get behind. Do your work and you will pass with an A. Would definitely take her again.
10/10 would take this class again! The course is very easy and she posts a lot of resources and things to help you. Each week sends you weekly updates and reminders for any upcoming work due. Answers to emails pretty frequently and has a clear grading and homework syllabus. She is very passionate about what she teaches and just wants you to learn.
If you are looking for an easy science course, take astronomy with her! She sends weekly emails, and you can tell she's passionate for astronomy and your success in the course. Assignments are through an online textbook, but they are very easy if you keep up with the reading! Quizzes are open-book and easy! Group projects are simple!
The easiest science class you can take. You do 4 quizzes every week but they are so easy and simple. She sends weekly reminders for you to do them too. 4 group projects (she drops one) that are so simple. You won't spend more than two hours a week on this class and should get an easy A. TAKE HER.
I should've taken 18 hours with this class. Took me one hour every week to complete the work. She's very communicative and truly cares about what she teaches.
This class was good but the homeworks are actually graded and not participation. Besides that there 4 group projects and no big assignments besides those. She also drops some of the lowest grades.
She was the sweetest professor. all her assignments were on mcgrawhill and were easy. She would always send out emails regarding the stars, it was cute. you had 4 group projects but they are also super easy. My group made me do them alone so I emailed her and she put me in a new group. PLS TAKE HER!
Online class. You watch lectures then answer a lot of homework problems and do weekly quizzes. A few group projects that are ridiculously easy. This class does get tricker near the end but you have access to plenty of resources.
This class was very easy and the professor is very sweet. She made the class fun even though it was online.
Super awesome lady; obv very passionate about astronomy and updates you on the happenings in the sky like once a week at least. Drops a lot of stuff and the group projects are super easy. Totally would take again. Quizzes are pretty easy and modules are due every 15 ish days so you have a while to work on them (or u can do it the day of lol)
4 group projects, lot of homework, weekly quizzes, sends a lot of emails and very understanding
LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT - Graduated with a 106 EASY assignments Everything is open notes, open book. You cannot fail this class even if you tried. Perfect for those needing an easy science credit or those who genuinely care for astronomy. The class was completely online making it the easiest class I have ever taken. She still takes late assignments.
I took Holtz's PHYS 1340 class because I needed an extra science credit, and loved it! It's super fun, and I'm not joking when I say I got a 107 without watching a single lecture. The textbook is accessible to non-STEM types (but you have to buy it if you opted out of Booksmart). There are four group projects, but she drops one and they're easy.
Very easy but tedious course. Lots of homework and quizzes but they are all easy. The lectures are really thorough. There were 3 group projects total but you just had to make a poster and, if you followed that correctly, you shouldn't have an issue.
Lots of homework, but it's really easy. I took this class because I needed a science credit and I'm glad I took it. As long as you just get the homework done, you'll pass. The quizzes are easy and she's extremely accessible if you have extra questions.
As long as you do the online work on time, you should have no problem getting an A, By far the easiest A I've ever gotten!!
Professor Holtz's class was extremely easy, just do the homework and the quizzes and you will do just fine. Also, you have 3 group projects but they are pretty straightforward. Getting an A in this class is really easy trust me.
It is too easy not to pass the class, all online and can do the readings whenever you want, had 3 group projects that were very easy to do. Probably the easiest science credit you can take.
