Nice lady, but she's not a great teacher. Only goes over powerpoints, and she doesn't know the material very well. Class is pretty basic, if you are good at chemistry you'll do fine.
First off, She has a thick indian accent which makes it very difficult for you to understand, especially when she starts rambling on. she doesn't explain the material well at all. definitely a teach yourself kind of class. not helpful because she wont let you take reviews home and complains about post review answers online. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Do not take her unless you are good at chemistry. She is hard to understand and very confusing. Her exams are a lot harder than the homework she gives. She expects you to book teach yourself half the material that is on the tests. I ended up with a B,only because I am pretty good at chem. She does curve the final, which helps.
She is very nice and helpful. You have to read your book and study. But she is helpful if you go see her with questions.
Sweetest Professor I've met yet at Blinn, but class is extremely hard. All homework is online, and you cant miss spell anything or its wrong. She did let my class do test corrections after every test. She answers emails quickly. Lecture is powerpoints made by mcgraw hill so they suck, and half the time she confuses herself.
The only good thing about Professor Jacob is how nice she is. Her tests are so difficult and I never have enough time to finish them. I'll study and go to multiple tutors and I'll be surprised if I even pass it. Homework and quizzes take multiple days to finish and labs have a bunch of extra assignments included. Dont take her.
This professor is hard to understand. She doesn't teach she just reads the power points. The online homework is confusing. Take another professor!
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She is useless. If you ask her a question her reply to you is "should have read the book" because she doesn't know the answer to any questions you ask her. She reads straight from the powerpoint and just rewrites whats on the power point onto the board but does NOT teach it at all. But she does let you do test corrections.
Don't get me wrong, Mrs. Jacob is a very kind person, but she's not the best professor. Expect to do a lot of reading out of your book because she isn't great at making concepts clear. But on the bright side, the online homework really helps. Show up for class because she counts absences AND TARDIES. Read from the book & do online homework.
Professor Jacob is a sweet lady! I absolutely enjoyed her class. She's super kind, always answers questions thoroughly, and extensively explains every problem perfectly on the whiteboard. She gives plenty of extra credit to boost your grade, and her tests are easier than they should be honestly.
Jacob is really nice. She will try to help you out if you ask her to. Her powerpoints are boring and she doesn't make themunderstand them half the time. In the beginning I found her difficult to understand because of her accent, but I got used to it over time. She gives a lot of extra credit, and her tests aren't too bad. Lots of online hw.
Prof. Jacob's chem class is more than difficult. She reads verbatim off the lecture slides and doesn't really explain it. She seems a little confused as to what she is teaching. BUT, she is a very nice professor and if you utilize her office hours she'll try and help. Also, she gives extra credit which is nice. You kind of have to teach yourself
She is a very nice lady, BUT you must either understand chemistry completely, or get tutoring. I went to A+ Tutoring and that's the only way i had received an A.
great prof. she is very helpful and tries to explain everything to you in a clear way.
don't get me wrong, prof jacob is a great person, but she's a terrible teacher. any time a student would ask a question, she would get mad and tell us to learn it at home so we could move on. doesn't clarify or explain anything.
She's really good about test corrections and helping you out on information that you don't know. She's extremely strict on attendance and makes you pay attention in class.
Great Professor! Very good! But chemistry is a hard subject. You will have to study hard. Read the book before going to class, ask questions, and practice after the class. Do your homework and lab work. If you are willing to work hard, you will do fine.
Offers a bunch of extra credit. Homework is only online. Don't get their late for experiments. Always available during office hours and other hours. Tests are not to bad.
She offered test corrections on a few tests. Very confusing when she "teaches".
She is very confusing and constantly rushes when teaching material. I would recommend doing the final review and all extra credit assignments. if you have an option to take another teacher I would suggest it. If not you should invest in a tutor and study study study.
I loved Mrs. Jacob! In the lab following the test, she lets you do test corrections to gain back a few of the points that were lost. She acknowledged herself that she has an accent, and works hard to make sure you understand what she's trying to teach. Would definitely recommend!
She rushes through her lectures alot and I don't really like how she "teaches". The only time I've gotten anything from her is when I went to her office hours to get extra help. I wouldn't really recommend her again.
Very sweet lady and usually available during office hours. If you have hard time understanding chemistry I STRONGLY suggest a tutor. She isn't good at explaining things, and usually will not answer questions in class, but will tell you to learn it on your own. Lots of additional work is required for labs. I suggest taking it w/ a different prof.
She flies through the lectures and doesn't speak english well at all. She expects you to learn most of it on your own. If you aren't good at chem get a tutor. If you can avoid taking her DO IT.
Pop quizzes very often. Doesn't really go through the examples on the board, just writes the answer. If you don't participate in class, she will call on you and expect you to go up to the board to answer questions even if you don't know what you're doing. Hardest professor I've ever had!!!
I struggled in this course more than my other Science course because of her. She gives out so many pop quizzes that your grades continue to drop. The 4 exams are hard, but can make corrections right after the exam to gain points back. Labs are hard and has a system you must follow or points off. I would not recommend her at all.
She was a decent professor that I didn't have any problems with. She helped out grades with curves.
Nice woman, but not very good at explaining in a helpful way.
She is good at teaching chemistry and makes it clear on what you need to know! If you study the PowerPoints she lectures with during class then you should do good on tests. Labs are interesting and overall this class was fun! I would recommend her!
Honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. She offers a lot of extra credit. DO it! You can also correct your tests and earn back some of the points you missed. I have no idea why people are saying she gives pop quizzes, I was always warned the class before. Class was tough, but nobody should really expect a science course to be a breeze.
Expected you to know and understand the material before it was taught. Monotone boring lecturer. No help in office hours, makes you feel stupid for asking. I'd find someone else.
I honestly could not recommend a professor less. I worked tirelessly for this class. I spent more time working on this class than any other over the semester, and yet we hadn't talked about a large portion of the final. She is a really nice woman, which is why it pains me to say that she is a terrible teacher.
If you dont have to take Professor Jacob, dont. She is a nice person but really should not be teaching. Her lectures are incredibly hard to understand, the tests do not correlate with the content she teaches, and she does not explain things well in office hours. Overall, this was a very frustrating course that wrecked my GPA.
She reads off power points that are exactly the same as what you just read in the textbook. her homework is a lot and has nothing to do with the lesson/test & most of the time you can't do it until last minute b/c the website just wont load. Test are hard but you can do test corrections but you less than half the points back.
Lets be honest, Chem is a pain. Labs, quizzes, tests (which are weighted heavily), and homework all take up tons of time and detail, but it is doable. Like a good professor would, she makes you learn the material and learn it good. All of these people saying she reads directly from the PPT are right, but those show the needed info for the final.
Chemistry is hard, but Mrs Jacob makes you understand the information you need. I failed chmestry one semester, and then got an A in Mrs Jacob's chem class, so after having two different profs, she is a gem. Take her if you have the chance, very accessible and helpful.
I went into this class and understanding nothing related to chemistry and was terrible at it. After having professor Jacob, I understood what was going on and enjoyed the class. She does a great job explaining concepts and does not mind answering any questions. It is not an easy class, but she will help you actually learn.
She is an amazing professor! I feel like she actually taught me chemistry. She will help you with anything you have trouble with, constantly replies to emails in a timely manner, and offers a bunch of extra credit that really helps your grade. If you need to take this class, I highly recommend her!
Taking her for Summer 1, she's a great professor. Chemistry has always been challenging to me, but she has so far been the only professor that has actually helped me understand the material, not just pass the class. She's organized, gets grades in quickly, and offers lots of extra credit. Be aware that she usually doesn't curve.
She is a very nice person. However, her teaching style is throwing out a ton of info and expecting you understand it all. I'm halfway done with this semester and have failed every test so far. Extra credit is offered as 5 pts. on each exam. The one time she gave a test review she said it was practice and was nothing like test. NO TEST CORRECTIONS!
Prof Jacobs is a solid choice for taking chem. Even though she can be confusing sometimes she is the lesser of the evils in the chem department. If you take her and try you will pass, if not get an A.
She is very nice and understanding woman, but her teaching style is VERY hard to keep up with, not to mention the disorganization and 3 places your homework will be. Other than that, she's a solid enough prof to pass chem 2.
I was quite glad I took her. She is super sweet and will help you if she knows you try. This class is not easy and I nearly didn't pass, but I learned a lot. She's also very good at lecturing, which is rather rare.
Let's be honest, chem's a tough subject, so this is a hard class. I had it at 8am up until it went online due to covid, and that was rough, but Prof. Jacob was a really good professor and a sweet lady. She wants you to succeed. Offers extra credit for tests, and as long as you put the work into this class with tests and labs, you'll be fine.
Professor Jacob is so very kind! If youre like me, and tests scare you, no worries she is so willing to help you if you just go to her office. Not going to lie, her class and teaching style were difficult for me and I barely slid by with a B. She is an extremely kind lady though, and is compassionate and understanding.
Prof. Jacob was an amazing professor who is super kind. I took intro to chem and was expecting it to be much harder, but she lays out the information as clearly as she can. She offers extra credit on every exam. She is willing to help you if you show some initiative.
Professor Jacob was nice but her teaching style wasn't for me. Her lectures were decent but weren't detailed like the Hw and her accent made things harder to understand. There was a hw/quiz for each chapter, and extra credit everywhere so DO IT! I went from 87 to a 90 from E.C.. Test reviews were 6+ if you made a 70. Lots of work but doable.
Professor Jacob is an amazing teacher and if you show that you care and try she will do everything in her power to help you! Her teaching style is for sure a little different then most but she offers a ton of extra credit!
Ms. Jacob was an okay teacher. She lectured a lot and made sure every detail was covered, but I sometimes got lost because she was so lecture heavy and had a bit of an accent. Test are tough but doable. Absolutely do the extra credit and exam reviews it will help you a lot. I would rate her a 3.5/5.
Professor Jacobs is a super caring person and really puts an input to learn your name etc. I did not have any chem background so this was a very difficult course for me. She answers emails fast and honestly, tries to help you if she can. Do every assignment, every extra credit assignment it is really worth it in the end.
This class definitely requires work to get an A. I sucked at chem I but ended up doing great in ChemII because of Professor Jacobs. She takes her time to explain everything and will always help you out if you're ever confused. Her accent is pretty easy to understand and she's very caring. Sometimes it does take her a while to answer emails.
Prof. Jacob was the best! She really cares about all of her students and if you put in the effort, easy A! Super sweet and willing to work with you and gives a TON of extra credit! She can come off as a bit disorganized and there was a few times where she didnt cover all her bases.. but overall learned a lot and 100% recommend!
Chemistry is always going to be hard but she made it easier to understand and is VERY WILLING to answer all questions. Fair amount of homework and lab work. Offers a lot of extra credit so take advantage, it could be the difference between and A and a B. Exams are difficult but not impossible. One lab exam which ended up being open note.
Easier than chem1411. A homework and quiz was assigned for each exam (there are 5 exams). There is a fair amount of lab work but easy to do. There is one lab exam but it ended up being open note. Extra credit is given for each test and there are also extra credit learning curves, DO THEM. very nice professor and answers questions happily.
She was an okay teacher but since we had her during the pandemic it was difficult to learn with her. She would get insanely mad if no one showed up in person to class and would refuse to teach and hurt (not teach) other students over it. That wasnt very impressive and she did not give much leeway if you had a job on top of classes.
Never knows her own lectures or labs. Lecture videos are extremely long and NOT helpful at all. Long homework assignments and makes tests and quizzes unbelievably hard. Would blame the class struggling on the students rather than helping us. Emailing her never clarifies anything. The majority of the class dropped before midterms. Do not take her.
I will say the one good thing about her is she will respond to your emails quickly, with a one or two word reply. DO NOT TAKE HER. She will literally fail the entire class and then blame it on you. Her lectures videos are long and not useful at all. Get ready to teach yourself. An advisor told me she had a 5% pass rate IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS!!
Please go away turn back while you have the chance when I was signing up the professor was TBA, I didnt know that would mean that i'd get this. Her lectures are hours on end, she goes on tangents and has a heavy accent. Blames the students for everything and doesn't take responsibility. HW and exam heavy.
DONT TAKE. She will fail every single person and still blame it on everyone else. Her lectures are terrible and the least helpful thing ever. She messes up more than any professor Ive ever had, but god forbid you mess up and then suddenly shes perfect. if you want to crush ur dreams, sign up for this class. Thats the only thing its good for.
Professor Jacobs does an amazing job explaining concepts and her exams are fairly easy as long as you stay on top of the material. This class definitely requires energy and work and the people who didn't put effort in always blamed her for it. If you're complaining about her and plan on being a stem major, good luck.
HARD CLASS! Take any other professor if you can. My roommate and I took the same class but with different professors and Mrs. Jacob did not stick to the curriculum that every other class followed. We had way more homework than the other classes and we had a lecture quiz each week. beware of the lab exam at the end of the year. The tests are hard.
AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS! Rushes you out of class for lab & exams. Has an accent, ego, & hard to follow lectures because she is all over the place. Be prepared to teach yourself everything. Half of the material on exams was never covered in lectures, and over half of the class dropped before drop date. I got a tutor & still barely passed.
It is going to be a difficult class, if you remember the majority of what you were taught in high school chem then it's def going to help. She has an accent but it's not hard follow. Lectures and labs are stressful. There's pre-lecture and post-lecture assignments that take a good amount of time. There's also pre-lab, lab-report, and post-lab work.
Professor Jacob is a sweet person but does not know how to teach. Long lectures, she turned simple subjects into insanely hard to explain lessons. There were also a couple random in class quizzes. Lots of homework and the tests were nothing like what we learned. The only thing I can say is she was nice, gave extra credit and the final was easy.
Although Professor Jacob was very sweet, I don't believe she does a great job at explaining concepts. I had difficulty understanding the lectures, and I struggled with keeping up with the material. She did give a couple in class quizzes, and there was a lot of homework. She gives lots of extra credit and the final was easy compared to the exams.
Very nice lady, but hard to follow in lectures. If willing to do the all the homework and keep up, then I would take her. Gives a lot of extra credit and review material for each exam. Things on exam never mentioned in class, so can't get a good grade by only listening to lectures. I taught myself a lot of the material by watching YouTube
I have never had a worst professor. She has so much knowledge of chemistry and doesn't know how to teach it. He accent is sometimes are so understand. Made me hate chem:(
Chem in itself is not an easy class, and Prof Jacob doesn't make it any easier. Her lectures are usually all over the place and many times students correct her mistakes. She is usually understanding if you are a good student and keep up with the work. STUDY FOR HER EXAMS! Hardest part of the class for sure. LOTS OF HW, but lots of extra credit.
This is a tough class, and Professor Jacob's teaching style does not make it any easier. I learned most of the material from Youtube, as her lectures didn't correlate to what was on the exams. Get tutoring if you can and study often. She does give lots of extra credit (but only because she expects most people to fail the exams/ final).
The content of this class is very difficult for most students, but Miss Jacob does a good job of explaining and solving several practice problems to help her students understand. We had a lab and quiz each week but several of our lowest quiz grades were dropped in the end. She also gives points back for test corrections after each test.
I believe Ms. Jacobs is a good professor and honestly cares for her students. I do agree that some of her methods of teachings can be a bit complicated which made me go to youtube to find an easier source of explanation. Her tests are not the worst thing in the world but can be a challenge yet she gives us ALOT extra credit.
Professor Jacob is an amazing professor she offered extra credit and will drop your lowest grades. It won't be hard to do well in this class if you go to class, do your homework, and study, her expectations are very clear. The people that are blaming her for their bad grades are the same people who aren't putting in any effort in the course.
I took Professor Jacob for both chem 1411 and 1412 for a reason. She is so funny and caring about her students and she was my favorite professor of my freshman year. Yes, the lectures are hard to follow sometimes but that's because the content of this class is challenging. She gives soo much extra credit and lets you do test corrections. I love her
Prof Jacob is awesome! She genuinely wants you to do well in the class, by the way she teaches you can tell that she cares that her students fully understand each topic. The exams can be tough but if you do the reviews and take notes on what you are getting wrong you should do well on them!! I could not recommend this professor enough :)
Do NOT take this class. The exams are nothing like the review or lectures. She expects you to somehow just know what you're supposed to learn? There's some extra credit and that's the only plus. Her lectures are everywhere and don't make sense sometimes. Everyone I know has dropped this class. The exams will ruin your grade!
I knew taking this class was a mistake judging by these previous reviews but I still took it anyways.. and I regret it, heavily. Yes, there are some extra credit opportunities but around 3/4 of the class dropped 2 and a half months in. The exams don't match lecture or the reviews.. we don't even learn some of the material that's on the exams.
She was the best professor I've ever met. Whenever students need help and have questions, she is very opened to answer and help them out. She uploads lecture video in e-campus and that helped me a lot. Watching the lecture videos and listening to lecture over again helped me to get the clear concepts and achieved high grades.
Jacobs was a great professor, very helpful when it came to extra credit. You could do test corrections for a quarter of the points you missed back (very long process but its worth it). Gave extra points for doing the test reviews, adding 2.5% to your grade if you did the final exam review. Her lectures are not the best, heavy accent as well.
Chemistry is not an easy course, however, Professor Jacobs tries her hardest for students to understand. She has videos on eCampus that help a lot, as well as optional worksheets but you have to put in the work. She is also very nice and easy to talk to if you have questions. Would take her again!
Her lectures sucked, but her test were super easy, and she replaces a test with the final at the end of the semester.
There are a total of 5 exams and the lowest one gets replaced by your final. The reviews are nothing like the tests, but she gives a lot of extra credit. I failed almost all the exams and still finished with an A because of the homeworks and EC. If you take her class don't give up because your grade will go up 5% at the end of the semester.
She lowk the goat and gives tons of extra credit all you gotta do is grind for the tests and if you do that well then you're basically on your way to getting an A in this class. This class is not hard it just requires sufficient self study
Professor is incredibly fair and decently caring. TONS of extra credit alotted - about 8.5 points bonus to your grade. I finished with a 107 in the class. Four lecture and lab exams, a final, tons of homework and quizzes, and some lab grades. Overall, this is an easy course if you know how and what to study. Exam questions very similar to lecture.
