Very rude and condescending. This teacher knows her chemistry, but has unparalleled ignorance. She talks to you like you're an idiot and takes forever. Shes like a rude kindergarten teacher!
lays out everything she can-- gives good prelab and emails you the whole semester's work in the beginning. She helps you when she can- but its hard to get to everyone. A lot of work to get a C even more work to get a B, or an A. Grade based on how much you get done not how well you do it.
She was great for 2131 lab, and for 2132 lab, it's pretty difficult, but she is still very helpfull as Dr. Ogal is the one makeing all the mistakes and slowing me down. She really tries to help, although I can see the other comments varified. She is the best one to take though!!!!!!!!!!
FABULOUS!! I had Ms. Michael for Organinc 1 & 2 Labs, and absolutely loved her. She is willing to help anyone, and if not for her I would have quit ORG 2 Lab. I had messed up one of my experiments, and she gave me some chrystals to continue my exp. Take her if you can!! BEST lab instructor ever.
She is the WORST teacher. She did good explaining the FIRST rxn, but after that she has been terrible!! she NEVER lectures before lab. She hates answering any questions. Worst of all, she doesn't give intructions on how to do Lab write-ups and she GRADES EXTREMELY HARSH ON THEM. TAKE CROSTHWAITE!!!
You should take someone else. Even Crosthwaite. Micheals sucks. Her quizzes are so long and ask alot of stupid questions. She requires VERY LONG papers and takes off points for stupid mistakes. She IS NO HELP either, especially for the UNKNOWNS. If you take her, you might as well just settle for a C
Very helpful...wants to challenge you...quizzes are hard, but they don't count too much. Very clear in explaining the labs.
LOVE HER! I think she's a great teacher, and she really works to help us understand the concepts, which is what I need. I can do math, but the "why" behind it stumps me. She also interjects humor into her lectures which helps in a late evening class! I wish she taught more.
Very Strict on Time, she talks for the first hour, and then makes us clean up the 30 minutes early. She wants everything accurate. she does explain thing pretty well, but she takes up most of your time and she is not that hlepful...so i would rather take someone else like crosthwaite!
we don't have enough time to do all the crap in this lab. maybe if she didn't lecture for 2 hours we would. take someone else.
Can't stand her lectures bc she talks down to class as if talking to a group of kindergarteners. She explains somethings well...but doesnt leave time to cover everything. She always waits and presents a lot of material right before the test. Easily annoyed. If you have no chem experience, take another profesor!

She is great. if u are a lone star and a nerd i guess u won't like her. but if u don't like reading the lab book she will take u by ur hand and tell u what to do (helping us to avoid fires, explosions, etc). She also gives great tips on how to do lab reports and how to study for quizzes. LOVED IT! I will miss her...
what in the hell does being a "lone star" and a nerd have to do with liking susan micheal? and what exactly is a "lone star"? she is not helpful in class, and good luck getting help outside of class. if you can, take someone else for org. 2 lab, like donna dorton. she's awesome.
She explains everything very clearly. Her Tests are from the only notes.
She is an excellent teacher. Does demonstrations to help explain the material & gives clear notes.keeps the material from being overwhelming & tests about once a month, which means they are only on about 2-3 chapters. If you go to class, ask questions, and do the hmwk, you'll succeed. Also GO to problem session!
Awesome teacher. Very clear and very fair. Doesn't put random material on exams. Everything comes straight from her lectures. Very helpful outside of class as well. Also, takes a personal effort to memorize your name which I think is cool.
This is a wonderful and easiest professor for the freshman class! Im not a genuis but i def passed the class with a B! Although attendance is not mandatory attending class will help any confussing details. You basically have to come to class and take the notes to pass her test. Her test are very up front..no tricks..just study your daily notes!
Mrs. Michaels is great! This class is an easy A. Do the homework and go to class and you'll be fine. She is very helpful and has been one of my favorite teachers!
I didnt think she was a great chem teacher until i took someone else. she is rude and not the best but much better than others.
Great teacher. Very easy and answers your questions. Her teaching style is slow so it is easy to follow along. GO to problem sessions, it really helps you on the test. the test is just like the POD's
She is very nice and knows a lot about the subject and is very interested in teaching it and her class understanding it. But, it is a very tough course to take in the summer and she gives quizzes everyday, so attendance is mandatory. Her tests are a lot easier if you study the POD's, the questions are straight off of them.
she is very slow in teaching and if you are interested in the subject you will do fine. study the book for tests and forget the notes. dont piss her off though...she hates people talking and falling asleep!
She is a great professor and makes helping students her priority. You will have to study for her quizzes and exams, but they are pretty straight forward. Attendance is not taken, but attendance will be necessary to do well in the course.
Although attendance is not mandatory, I highly suggest going to class and taking the notes. The study guides online are helpful for the exams. Make sure to study your notes and read the book prior to quizzes and tests. She's a boring person to listen to, but its chemistry.
She is a terrific teacher. If you go to every class and take notes every class, and study and do perform as a normal student you will have a average B to a high B. a lot of people complain about her but their also lazy. HIGHLY suggest doing the chapter homework, helps really good for quizzes and tests. You'll love her!! great teacher!
Shes a great teacher you just have to go to class. She is willing to help if you ask for it. Dont talk in her class or you will get kicked out! She isnt that boring she switches it up from power point to board and sometimes she does experiments. Great teacher but you really have to apply yourself.
She's a really good teacher. Although attendance isn't mandatory the notes are really helpful, I haven't used my book more than twice. Keep up and review your notes before a test and you should be fine. Don't be afraid to ask questions she's always wiling to go over things if you don't understand. I really enjoyed her class.
very helpful
I really dreaded going to her class. Ms Michael is rude to the students and doesn't teach things well. I hate this class and the way it's taught. Tests and quizzes are really hard. I could have done more to prepare for some of them, but others i couldn't have studied more. Also, Her haircut looks like a 10 year old boys.
She was a great and very FAIR teacher. IF you needed anything, she was always willing to give you a hand or e-mail. She's very responsive and more patient than Jew. Even though she 'looks childish', she acts more mature than most students in class who all but complain.
It was nice how she wrote everything on the board so easy to take notes, but the prob. was a lot of times the notes she gave weren't the things on the test. She had days where she was in a bad mood and you knew it, but she was pretty nice most of time. Tough class but got curved at the end. She was consistent in her grading so at least it was fair.
I think she is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. When she is up in front of the class lecturing, it is so obvious that she isn't enjoying it. She is not enthusiastic about the subject at all which is very important while teaching because it makes the students not interested! Also, her lectures are crap. You won't learn a thing.
I have never had a professor who made it so clear that she looked down upon students, calling us "kids" and treating us like 3 year olds. I did not go to college to be treated like I was still in kindergarten. If you learned what she taught in class you would end up with about a "D" on any exam. The rest you have to teach yourself.
Notes in lecture are not what is on the tests. Quizzes everyday with 30 seconds for an answer to be given. Tests are all or nothing answers, NO multiple choice. You must be able to self teach yourself all material as it is not taught. The person below saying she calls everyone "kids" is true.
I actually really liked Ms. Michael! She was very helpful and clear. She makes you think as well; she doesn't just hand over every little thing, which makes people mad because they don't get everything handed to them like they are used to. I hated CHEM before but I changed majors because of her!
Agreed. Her lectures are useless. Her quizzes are EVERY DAY on the clicker. Go to SI, have study groups with classmates and practice problems. Her exams were all problems and no MC. Be ready, this class is serious and nothing to blow off. You HAVE to go, or you will be way too far behind. A great amount of effort got me a C-.
If you are good at chemistry and have a STRONG background from highschool, Mrs. Michael's would be an okay teacher. She moves VERY fast and will show you ONE time and give you ONE example and give you a quiz on what you just learned all in her hour and fifteen min. lecture. She is Fast, and will not let you catch up, so stay ahead!
SHE IS HORRID!!!. REALLY RUDE!!! UNFAIR AT TIMES!! But if you read and study and go to problem sessions and SI you should pull an at least a B. But she is still HORRIBLE to have to deal with. Hopefully you never have to speak to her directly. She will talk to you as if your 10
If you're good at algebra, chemistry should be easy. and if you take it with professor michael, it makes it even easier.
god i hate this class. so painful. given, im not a fan of chemistry at all, and im sure that doesnt help. just go to class and work on problem sets like twice a week and youll do fine.
It's as easy as Chemistry CAN be...she goes pretty slow so the information is pretty clear, problem sets are online to help practice for the tests, "clicker" questions are given about every class but only 100 points are taken at the end of the semester so if you get some wrong its not a big deal. Overall, go to class and do problem sets to pass.
Moves too fast, daily clicker questions are easy but anything she teaches never looks like anything on the exam. She will show you an examples of a question and all the foloowing problems will be much harder.
Susan Michael is an amazing professor.I highly recommend her for students who are willing to put the time and effort and... yes... work towards making a good grade in chemistry. All in all, Mrs. Michael is one of the best professors I've had.
She SUCKS!!! The class is boring and it kills me to attend this class. She may sometimes give you wrong information. The ALEKS web work is painful, because it consumes so much time. Between her and ALEKS i had no social life because I had to teach myself and do ALEKS. AVOID her at ALL means.
She is, without a doubt, the WORST professor I've ever had. It doesn't matter how much you study, don't expect to pass. Her study guides are nothing like her exams. Half our class has already dropped because they were failing, and most people still in are failing. Exams are extremely hard, don't expect to pass if you take her class.
MRS Michael. She is mean. She hates her job. But honestly, what else would you expect from a professor teaching college that doesn't have a PhD?
I thought she was okay until everyone failed the third test and this screwed my average. I got a B and really deserved an A. I say you should study hard and go to every problem set and office hours.
Mrs. Michael was pretty good, though sometimes talks down to students. Overall, she was a good teacher...but like in ANY chemistry class, it takes a lot of studying. Not her fault though.
Mrs. Michaels is a good teacher chemistry just sucks ridiculously. If you are willing to put in the work she is willing to help. Gives decent amount of "helper points". She is not mean.
Mrs. Michael is the best chem teacher there. If you like seeing experiments, and are a very visual learner shes the teacher for you! I took Chem 1251 with Hutchison, and made a 34, currently I have an 82. She is always willing to help, and she doesn't give you nonsense information. Do the homework and problem sets and your set!
Mrs. Michael is a horrible teacher. She is rude in class and outside of class. She lectures at such a slow pace but doesn't teach much in class. Chemistry is a hard subject. I made a B+ only because I taught myself EVERYTHING. She sucks! AVOID AVOID AVOID. Also, she demeans anyone that asks questions. Not an encouraging teacher. Also shes not a PhD
If you like to get a break down explanation, She is the professor to choose. She is an excellent teacher and if you make an effort to see her during office hours or e-mail her, she Helps you out a lot. She even helped me find a chemistry tutor=) Chemistry is hard no matter what.... Having a professor like this will help you out tremendously.
Mrs. Michael is a great professor. She explains things clearly and contrary to other reviews, she's very helpful in and out of class. Chem is hard, you have to come to class and you have to study. Mrs. Michael makes it as clear and easy as anyone can. But, you have to do your part. I would take a class of hers again in a heartbeat!
Prof Michael is very tough, but none the less a great teacher. I was quite prepared for 1252 and organic. Don't blame her if you don't feel like putting in the effort or are just too lazy. Definitely try to spend some office hours with her she is a huge help and very clear. Thanks a bunch Mrs Michael.
GREAT TEACHER! as long as you do your homework and study you will do great in class. She is a great teacer
Don't get her upset at you or you will be discriminated against. 1251 has severe grading issues. She does not like to be wrong. She is an overly technical teacher. She ridicules students when they ask questions. Makes numerous calculation errors. Pay extremely close attention to detail in this theory based course or no "A". Don't take this "teacher
I took this as a sophmore in college and I took no prior chemistry class since 10th grade. I am horrible at this stuff, but she explained everything very well. And the curve at the end helped me get a B. If you have a question she is more then willing to help you understand. Sometimes it can be a bit dry...but it IS chemistry.
Mrs. Michael is an excellent professor. Chemistry is a hard course in itself but Mrs. Michael makes Chemistry easy as long as you attend class daily and take notes. Chemistry did not come easy for me but Mrs. Michael was a great professor.
i didnt like her at all she is very mean and makes you feel stupid when you ask her A question and not approachable, not helpful and wont work with you.
She is not a very good teacher. Her recent teaching method is making students to in groups and leaving us to work on worksheet. Chemistry is a very hard class and she didn't make the class engaging enough. Basically you have to teach yourself.
Literally the worst teacher I have ever had. Avoid this class like the plague. She frequetly halts a class of about 100 students because she hears whispering, regularly belittles students. It's obvious she hates her job and her life. I have never seen a more disinterested teacher.
Mrs. Michaels is petty and wastes time by stopping the class to try to embarrass students. The class is a large lecture style and we never get through the material because she is busy nursing her ego from students talking.
She doesn't teach, just spends class time demeaning students.
She is a great teacher and can be very helpful. Yes she does belittle students who talk during her class, but I would to if I had people disrupting my class. This is college, she shouldn't have to put up with people who aren't willing to learn.I never took a chemistry class before college and I currently have a high B.
If you have the mind set of a middle school kid, like the people that wrote bad reviews about her, then do not take her class. She is great teacher, explains well and easy going. If you talk or play with your phone in class then she will give you a hard time, otherwise, I recommend her!
Awesome professor! I love her and am taking her currently for 1252. I had her last semester for 1251 and always sat in the back. I have become so comfortable in her class and feel encouraged by her so I now sit in the front row. Just great all around! Take her course, do the reading and homework, and you will succeed.
So much to cover in so little time. Apparently this class is structured to be your "tough" class of the semester. 80% of the class is memorization and algebra. You have to study every damn lecture because who knows what will be on her tests. Practice test are basically useless. The quantity of material covered is highly valued over quality.
Mrs. Michael is very clear and gives you a good idea of what will be on her tests. The class was light on homework, but completing practice problems is essential to doing well on the tests. You have to go to class to do clicker quizzes or you lose points. From what I have heard and my experience, Michael is the best teacher for a tough class.
Worst class i have experienced. Homework takes hours and is way more complicated than her examples. She rushes through materials and belittles students with questions. Expect to spend 20 hours per week on her class for a B or C. This class really sucked
Organized, clear, concise lectures. Good at explaining abstract subjects such as quantum numbers on a down to earth level. Not a lot of homework- one online problem set and quiz per week. It is a STEM course so expect to read the book and do the practice. An A is very possible. Great teacher.
She was like a mother figure. Kind of awkward but she is pretty nice and understanding. Explains and writes everything out.
Mrs Michael explains everything you need to know. I highly recommend doing weekly problem sets along with online homework. Going to class is a must since there are clicker questions. Tests may be tricky so prepare accordingly. She may seem boring but a great intro chem teacher. Very possible to make an A with effort.
Test are super hard, strongly recommend taking this class with a different professor
Mrs. Michael is an excellent professor. She outlines everything on the chalkboard, explains everything well, she always was quick in responding to emails, and always made time for me. Show her that you are trying, and she will help you out as much as possible. She pushed me up to an A at the end of the semester because she saw that I was trying.
Chem1251 is difficult to begin with. With all the homework, online quizzes , TASL sessions and tests, you basically have to teach yourself the material with this professor. It takes her a while to cover the important topics and the little details get lost. She offers optional problem solving sessions sometimes, but they're not much better.
Good lord this class was easy. I am a junior engineer and I took this class for credit. Compared to what's to come, this class was the easiest thing ever. She spoonfeeds you information. Memorize and easy A. She called out this dude in class behind me for opening his fat freshmen mouth and talking. She chewed him out, it was awesome! Don't be dumb
Chemistry 1251 has a ruthless reputation. Mrs. Michael helps to curb that with her thorough lectures and good use of SmartWork assignments. If you pay attention, do the practice problems, and ask questions, it is hard to receive anything but an A or B. She is very helpful and clear in her lectures. Don't skip class though. Clicker quizzes everyday.
Chemistry is a hard subject to learn, but Prof. Michael makes the subject manageable. Going to her lectures are essential as she covers every topic in great detail and youll spend less time studying. People here are complaining about her attitude towards students, but this is only to the people who cant keep themselves from talking during class.
Dr. Michael was probably one of the best professors I've had thus far. She essentially teaches the class like you're 5, which isn't really an issue considering the material isn't that easy in the first place. If you don't come to class you miss out on crucial examples that pop up (hint) and miss clicker questions. Definitely an A+ teacher!
Mrs. Michael is the best professor I've had at UNCC. She knows the material really well and how to teach it, so that it's easy for someone to grasp. She also gives great examples to help understand it. Most of the class was straight lecture and the tests were right from the notes so dont skip class even once. Wish she were teaching 1252...
This class was very hard but Professor Michael helped a lot. Her lectures are well-organized and easy to follow. The majority of the work comes from out of class. To receive a good grade you need to do practice problems and problem sets.
Her lectures are fine. Unless you sit in the middle section of the class, you'll never be able to see the board. She isn't helpful involving how you could improve in the class, she gives the same response and no clarification, also THE TESTS are designed for you to fail unless you're only taking this one class the whole semester. Avoid her.
She is the best professor you can take for 1251, she does not show favoritism she just knows the people that always participate and go to her office hours. The tests are kind of tricky but you can definitely snag an A with effort. Don't buy the textbook!
Professor Michael is the best chemistry 1251 professor. Her lectures are very clear and to the point, she writes out everything and solves problems with students. Go to class everyday, if you skip class, you won't do so well on exams. Go the problem sessions, if you want an A in the class!
I am a transfer student who took a similar chemistry class at my old school and I passed with a B. I've been to tutoring, SI sessions and moved my seat to the front and I still didn't pass. I asked her my chances of passing her class and she told me I had a 6% chance of passing her class.
Professor Micheal is a really good choice for Chem 151. Her lectures are a bit boring but the lectures are easy to follow to. The exams are challenging but if you study well you should be okay.
1251 is hard. The material isn't hard, but the tests just aren't designed for you to do well. You must know what you're doing. She is an amazing teacher that is VERY clear and VERY knowledgable about 1251. I passed with a B, but I definitely worked hard for it. GO TO CLASS!
Passed CHEM 1200 with an A, but struggling a B in this class. It's a hard class, don't be fooled and know your limitations in Gen Chem. Michael is super sweet lady, an amazing person. Beware of her tests, everything is super easy in class, but the test are really hard and more advanced than what is taught in class. Clicker questions too.
Great and caring professor who provides plenty of resources for extra practice. Will take time to meet with you and discuss ways to improve grade. Weekly homework and quizzes, and daily clicker questions. Go to class everyday and use the additional resources provided and you will succeed.
Mrs. Michael was the most straightforward professor I've had at UNCC. Her lectures are very straightforward, but there is a lot of information. She will help you outside of lecture and guide you through her class. Though, her class is very difficult. SI review and extra textbook problems will help you succeed, but you have to work in her class.
Mrs. Michael is the cute, funny, and most notably smart grandma that everyone wants. Her lectures are extremely helpful and interesting, so long as you take good notes and pay attention. Like many have said, her exams are tough, but their difficulty can be combated by studying. You must thoroughly understand the material if you want to pass.
Professor Michaels is really sweet and is a great lecturer she does a lot of pollevs during class but they do not count towards your grade too much. Homework and pre-class assignments are not bad if you just do them on time.
Ms. Micheal is one of the best teachers for CHEM 1251, but the material for the class is heavier than you imagine. try to get as many grades as you can in the first three tests because you will lose a lot in the fourth and the final. Get ready to study and do homework every week.
She is one of the most respected Teacher I have Had in that semester. You need to pay attention in class she says something and dont write it sometimes. Homework is easy (ps: use Chegg ) and be sure to get an A in the first two test because they are the easiest between them all
I took Prof. Michael for Chem 1200 and I'm taking 1251 next semester with her because she is a great teacher! Her lectures are helpful and make sense. The homework can be overwhelming but it really does help! Also go to her office hours if you are struggling with understanding something! Definitely a caring professor who wants you to pass!
Mrs Micheal is VERY through when it comes to her lectures. . The amount of homework is manageable given that its due at the end of each week. The pre-class assessments are a breeze. Tests consist of MC and free response (USE THE BOOK TO PRACTICE. THE MOST DIFFICULT FREE RESPONSE QUESTIONS ARE STRAIGHT OUT THE BOOK JUST SWITCHED UP A BIT!)
Mrs. Michael is a wonderful lecturer. She is very thorough. However, if you skip class, your grade will suffer as she uses PollEverywhere as a grade and as attendance. The tests aren't too bad as a practice test is posted online and is pretty similar to the real test.
Susan Michael is one of the better Chemistry professors at UNCC. This course is information intensive but if you read the textbook and practice you will do well. Mrs. Michaels is willing to help and accepts questions during her lectures. She knows what she is talking about.
This was my third attempt taking chem 1251 and last chance to actually pass it. She is by far the best professor I've had in all my years at this university. She breaks everything down so well. She's willing to help if you go see her in her office hours.
Graded heavily and didnt do much review..
Mrs. Michael is the best teacher I have ever had and most likely the best I ever will have. She made my transition to college easy. She did give a summer assignment but it wasn't graded on accuracy. She is so kind and she explained the content so that it made sense. The chem dept. was under review because her class was the only successful class.
I took her for chem 1251 and she's one of the best chem professors I've had so far. She's caring and her lectures are easy to understand. She takes poll ev quizzes in every class daily and make sure you copy some of those hard poll ev questions cause they tend to pop up on her exams. Also her exams are similar to her practice tests she gave out.
One of the better chem professors at this school. Great lecturer just make sure that you practice the mathematical concepts outside of class, as she did focused on more the non-mathematical concepts. If you get at least a C on the exams, complete the homeworks, in class assignments (poll ev.), and the pre-class assignments, you can make a B
For a hard class like this Michael is a solid prof. Her lectures are clear and she posts practice sheets on canvas which help A LOT when studying. The homework and the pre class assignments help so much. She really cares about her students and asked everyone in my 100+ class to contact her after the shooting to make sure we were ok.
Not only is she testing us on material that she doesn't cover in class but she fails to clarify most of the material in lecture and rants about topics that anyone could learn at home. She gives me an underlying feeling that she doesn't care if you fail or pass. The martial on the homework is harder than the material in class. overall D- Teacher
Really funny and willing to answer questions, tries to make you understand what you are getting into without scaring you. However, has an intellectual threshold she expects you to meet to be in that course so sometimes won't go into detail and will leave you to work it by yourself frequent heavy tests, lots of PCA and assignments.
I loved her. She is by far my favorite teacher. Do your work and you'll be fine. Go to office hours when you have questions and study for tests. Her lectures are super easy to understand !!
Professor Michael made Chemistry seem like an easy subject. If you do the homework and pre class reading then go to lecture, this should be an easy class. Attendance is counted towards your grade and there was homework but it was manageable and helped for tests. Take her if possible she has the most resources available to help study.
lectures can be boring sometimes but theres always a clear outline for the day and usually work sheets that go along w the lecture for the day thatll be filled out through the lecture. prof michael is super caring and nice!
had a lot of homework and readings it helps bc im lazy and if someone doesnt require it, i wont do it. doesnt make you read an entire chapter only like a sub category which takes 10 minutes then a little quiz. tests are multiple choice and free response. shes super helpful and goes over the tests in class, organized and knows what shes doing.
Shes a very sweet lady but I did not enjoy having her as my professor. Tests are super hard and if you do poorly it is extremely hard to get your grades up bc the weekly assignments are only worth 1 point each. She is a very tough grader and will find the smallest thing to take off SEVERAL points for. Grading honestly seems a bit unfair.
I really hate doing this. I heard nothing but great things about Mrs. Michael prior to taking Chem1251, but this was the absolute worst class I have ever taken in my entire life. Never partial credit, full credit lost even if the system was at fault, & 0 reliable resources provided to prepare for an exam properly. An absolute waste of time & money.
Chem 2 lab online is lengthy and time consuming, maybe depends on TA, they could grade this so harshly, very time consuming to double check with them: attend office hour or lab time to earn a good grades in this class, not worth for 1 credit. Could easily get point deduct on simple mistake :((((
Professor Michael was a great choice for 1251. The course itself is hard but she does her best to make it easy. I really loved her teaching style and she did very well at allowing me to grasp the various concepts. I could not recommend her more!
I never understood chemistry until I took this class with Prof. Michael. She has a great teaching method, prefect for visual learners, and gives many other resources to help master a concept. She always stops to answer any questions that may have come up. The course itself is difficult so you will need to study hard if want an A.
Professor Micheal is an overall good professor when it comes down to the overall teaching of the material. She is also very good at answering student questions. The issue that I have with her class is the ridiculous workload that has no effect on your grade. Your grade is 95% test reliant. If you can't devote 100% of your time, take another class!
Way too much HW that doesnt help grade. Tests are 50% of grade so if u fail one, good luck bringing ur grade up. My Advice: If you have more than 2 classes (excluding Chem 1251) dont take this class. You wont have the time to commit the necessary study efforts to her class.
Mrs. Michael is a very sweet lady however, I would never take her again for any course. Her grading system is unfair in so many ways and the class is based 75% on the exams and the final exam really. The homeworks are worth 1-2pts and don't move your grade. She does PollEverywhere like every 5 seconds and you do not get ample time for exams.
By far my favorite professor at UNCC. If you have questions just go to office hours. Read the book and take the quizzes. Take notes and do the practice tests to prepare for exams. She is an awesome professor and knows what she is talking about. All you have to do is pay attention.
Shes a nice woman but her class was awful. She expects you to put so much time into her class, you wont have time for anything else. She assigns so much work and its only worth 1-2 points so it barely helps your grade. If you are taking other classes, dont take hers.
Professor Michael was a great lecturer, she went over problems and explained every step in her problem solving sessions. The test are definitely hard so you have to study to do well on them. She did drop the lowest test which is awesome. Class was organized with assignments due every Sunday. There is a lot of homework so she makes you work for it.
Mrs. Michael had little to no leniency on Exams when I took her class and when I met with her to get extra help she simple directed me to SI sessions which some of them I could not attend because of my schedule but was not helpful at all in this instance. She also did not offer an extra credit to students who needed a slight push to go up a letter.
Professor Michael is great at describing the information, so the material is easy to grasp. But still, the class is a lot of work. There were textbook quizzes due before each class and weekly homework assignments. Space out the homework assignments throughout the week because it could take hours to finish in one sitting. Attendance is also graded.
There is pre notes every class. If you do all of the work and spend time with the material, she is an amazing and very helpful professor. She cares about her students learning things. Go to class, you definitely need it. She gives time to talk to neighbors so it is a good class.
This is a Chemistry course so it is not going to be easy, but Mrs. Michael provided us with many resources to practice problems and equations before exams. She has office hours on multiple days during the week, and I never felt behind in her lectures. If you put in the work; and expect to do that, you will do well in this course.
The class was taught by TA, but Mrs. Michael was the coordinator and gave helpful videos to watch before the lab which helped me understand the experiments better. Labs are challenging though, but my TA was very helpful as she answered every question and helped with problems we had.
Lab taught/mentored by TA. When I reached out to Dr. Michael, she was not understanding. Nonetheless, the TA will say your work is good and take points off when grading it. During discussions, I would copy exactly what he said down and would still get knocked to a 70-80 due to the discussions. Overall a negative experience.
This lab made me question life. TA was not helpful at all and they are strict graders. Most of the lab were boring and doesn't really seem to benefit my future. The before class quizzes should not be an average after two attempts.
Despite teaching such a difficult subject she really did an amazing job! I learned a lot from her lectures and she helps to engage us and helps us with problems. There was a problem session and lecture and both were extremely helpful. There were weekly homework assignments that took a while and small pre-class assignments but all were very helpful.
She works really hard to teach the class, she makes this though subject easy
Mrs. Michael is a wonderful teacher. Her lectures are detailed and clear. She does her best to make sure you understand the material. There's a lot to learn at a fast pace, so be prepared to commit 3-4 hours a day for this class. If you do the readings, additional problem solving questions, and study, you'll be alright.
I did struggle in this class but the amount of resources she provides is top-notch and helped me a lot. Definitely recommend :)
I loved the way she taught on the blackboard. Her PCA's give you a quick understanding of what the lesson is going to be about. She teaches at a very good pace and takes her time to make sure you understand everything.
Mrs. Michael is a good professor, during the lecture she goes over what you should have read in the text for students to have a better understanding. Homework is assigned weekly and is not crazy. Your lowest test score is dropped and averaged out. She also uses the point system grading, which could be a dealbreaker. Also no extra credit
I was scared to take chem because of how hard everyone said it was, but Mrs. Michael is one of the best professors I've had. Her lectures are really easy to understand and the study guides are great preparation for tests. She's literally so sweet and as long as you attend most classes, it's not hard to keep a pretty high average.
Hands down best professor for this course. Makes an effort to get to know student and welcomes feedback on there teaching style. Is very clear on what is required and how to pass the course. Fast grader with good feedback. easy to access both in and outside of class. Attendance is not mandator however there are in class grades. NO extra credit
Ms. Michael's lab is set up much better than the chem 1 coordinator's. The experiments are difficult and require a high level of thinking but the online software takes your step by step through each experiment. Ms. Micheal is very sweet and drops two lowest experiments.
Honestly, she is a decent chem professor. Definitely have to show up to class or else or kinda f****. But the assignment she gives out isn't that bad can be difficult here and there for sure. If anything it's the exam that's going to throw you off (definitely my 13th reason). But FR though take this course elsewhere, the chem department sucks a**
IMO, She is the best professor for CHEM1251. She's a great lecturer and gives clear explanations and notes. She takes attendance in class through learning-catalytics. Tests can be difficult, they are designed by the department not her, but if you properly prepare it's not too bad.
Chemistry gets a bad rap here but she's a really good professor. Half of your grade is based on the 4 exams, and the final is 20%, so studying up for the exams is important. 7.5% of your grade is in-class attendance so don't skip it, but she makes her lectures engaging and fun even if the material is pretty hard. Only prof worth taking for 1251 imo
She gives really good lectures that help the textbook make a lot more sense. EASILY the best prof for 1251. Stands out as a great teacher and nice prof in a department that isn't so great as a whole. Attendance is part of the grade and you will struggle if you skip lecture.
Mrs. Michael does a good job of explaining the material in class that can be confusing in the book. Be prepared to write a lot as some lectures have loads of info in them. She promptly replies to emails and is available immediately after class for brief questions. Attendance is graded based on PollEv questions in class. Study, study. study.
4 regular exams & they're worth 50% of your grade. Homework doesn't move it up a lot and final is 20% of your grade. Lowest exam grade is dropped but exams are tough. This course is not easy and requires a lot of studying. Honestly, it sucked the life out of me and made me rethink my entire life.
I see lots of positive reviews but most of the people in class were struggling. This class was hell and made me want to die (I had it at 8 am monday, wednesdays, and fridays). Dr. Michael wasn't bad but the exams are very difficult (not like class). Do yourself a favor & take this course elsewhere, the chem department sucks here (it's on probation)
Professor Michael is an amazing lecturer who explains things very clearly. She gives a lot of practice problems in class that are similar to the ones on the tests. She is very easy to reach and is always available for questions. She grades things very quickly as well. The only downside is the homework system she uses (ALEKS), it is terrible.
Great Professor. She thoroughly explains all of the information but the course is test heavy. I averaged a B on my exams using the practice exams and the resources that she provided. Test were quite difficult and they are not really like the practice exams. But, overall the best 1251 chem professor.
Mrs. Michael is an amazing professor. She understands that the class is challenging and tries her best to make everything easy to understand. There is a homework assignment due every week and there are in class PollEverywhere questions to keep track of attendance. There are also quizzes due before every class based on the reading from the textbook.
The best professor I have had this semester! Truly one of my favorite professors! I didn't even need to read the textbook because her lectures cover everything you need to know. I barely knew any chemistry before taking this class and the professor explained each topic without expecting students to know the material already. I 100% recommend.
Professor Michael is a great lecturer who makes chemistry much more understandable. Her lectures cover the material well, and using resources like unstuck AI along with the textbook really helped me succeed in this challenging course.
her lectures and notes are very informative. for this class, i've had to study COUNTLESS hours in order to get an A on an exam. just know chem 1251 is one of those weed out classes, so if you want to stay in the class, you have to go out of your way to really use the material given to you; practice exams, problem sets, and chapter objective lists!!
Mrs. Michael is a great professor and she strives to make her lectures engaging even with difficult topics. She does not post lectures on canvas so you do have to attend in order to get info. 4 exams and then final at the end. Final exam will replace your lowest exam grade.
I hate chem. I don't mind labs just because they're easy, but this lab was kinda hard. I had the TA for the lab and he was okay kinda shy. The lab flow is annoying because i forget it doesn't show on canvas when stuff is due. The lab reports long asf sometime. They're kinda easy if you understand what you're doing in lecture, but I still struggled.
She is a great professor for CHEM 1251. She is good at explaining material. There is quite a lot of work for this class, but if you go to class and pay attention, it is easy to complete. You are expected to read from the textbook; however, all material is covered in class. You can get an A in this course if you put in the effort.
Assignments (including in-class work, ALEKS, and pre-class) only account for 30% of the overall grade, while exams make up the remaining 70%. That wouldn't be as concerning if the average exam score weren't consistently around 63%.
Very good at explaining difficult concepts, takes time to answer questions. Provides a lot of resources for studying, if you put in the work your grade will reflect that. Chem 2 is difficult course but she does a good job with notes and practice problems during lecture. Attend every class so you don't fall behind, make a friend in case you miss.
Prof. Michaels is very approachable if you make the effort to reach out. Her grading criteria is straightforward. The best lecturer I have come across. Notes are simple and to the point, never goes off on tangents. Respectful to her students. Highly reccomend!
Worst lab instructor. Never helps when I have a genuine problem, and always puts the blame on the students even when the TA or herself makes a mistake. Labs aren't graded until 2 weeks later, no makeup or extra credit. Never lets you go over the lab to understand what you missed, rushes material, and worst of all changes due dates without notice.
Worst for Lab. Changes due dates with
You basically have to teach yourself everything. Class time is only 50 minutes, which is way too short for the amount of information being taught. Her lectures mainly focus on what the concepts are rather than practicing the math problems that mainly show up on the tests. She really likes to throw curveballs on the tests!!!
Chem 1252 is a challenging course, but Mrs. Michaels makes getting a C or higher achievable. As long as you watch the PCA videos and attend the lectures, you will pass the course. She is very understanding and provides a lot of materials to ensure you pass the course. Overall, if you have to take Chem 1252, this is the professor you want to have.
I have always been good at chemistry. I passed AP chem with flying colors and skipped gen chem 1 because of that, however with the way she lectured, I couldn't grasp a thing. I had better luck copying and interpreting notes from my peers. This class is tough and I didn't feel like she cared to help me grasp topics when I struggled. Not fun for me.
