Susan is the bomb!! She makes Anthro fun and educational
Mrs. Kerr is great. As long as you attend the class you can pass it. Be ready to take very loonngg tests which include multiple choice, two essays, 4 short answer questions, and identifying objects that were shown in class.

shes awesome
Nice person - bad professor. Heard her in the hallway talking gossip about other professors who are her colleagues. She is one weird cookie. off the wall sense of humor. Give this woman a vacation.
Great class, kinda hard but if you pay attention and come to class its fun.
One of the best professors I've had. Makes the subject interesting. Just make sure not to miss any classes, she covers a lot of material.
I LOVED her online class! Lots of info, but if you do the reading, and actually study, you'll do fine. She really made the content interesting!! The labs really pull the content together!
its awesome i love archaeology !!!!
Susan is the best professor at MJC hands down. Her classes are so thorough, they beat out most of the Anthro classes at CSU Stanislaus. My sister had her and graduated CSU with a BA in Anthro, my best friend, who I met in Susan's class, graduated with Lib
I thought this class was awesome. You will learn a lot just by listening to her and paying attention to the videos she shows. Definitely read the articles, though!

Great teacher very interesting class. fun and easy if you make a honest effort!
Susan was the best teacher I had at MJC. She is very enthusiastic about teaching and the subject matter, and makes attending class enjoyable. Attendance is pretty important, but her lectures aernt boring and they are very informative. Great personality and great teacher.
great teacher. class itself was a bit on the dry side but the way she presents it is fun :) is willing to help and very approachable.
I loved Dr. Kerr’s class. She is a very nice and approachable person. Her lectures are interesting and she tells you exactly what she wants. You can tell she really loves what she does and the subjects she teaches. She is a great teacher and I learned a lot in her class.
awesome teacher, makes this class fun and she is very easy. She is super nice too. take Dr Kerr!!
Mrs.Kerr was a wonderful teacher. She was great at explaining everything until everyone understood and she was the nicest lady ever! Physical Anthropology is a great class too, I'd definitely recommend taking it... but especially from her!
Most of the reviews regarding Dr. Kerr are way too positive. She's a good teacher, and her class is fairly pleasant, however she's not the best teacher at MJC. The class is pretty straight forward, and an A isn't too hard to attain, but sometimes she'll move exam dates forward, giving you less time to study, and you might be caught off guard.
Dr. kerr was an awsome teacher, graded fairly, really nice and verrrry energetic. if ever interested in anthro...i would recommend taking it with her because she explains and answers all of your questions, which makes class material a lot easier to understand.
She gave me an interest in Anth I didn't know I had. Great teacher who makes her classes fun and interesting. Your grade will represent the work you put into it.
Susan is a good teacher. She understands that not everyone wants to be an anthropologist and tries to make it interesting and fun anyway. There aren't very many assignments, just weekly quizzes worth 10pts each so those days are crucial. She offers many opportunities for extra credit and is always willing to help if you need it. Not bad overall.

Dr Kerr is absolutely fantastic. Her class is engaging and she keeps you interested throughout the class. She is humorous and never boring. Absolutely adoreable in a, wow, this woman is brilliant sort of way. PLENTY of reading, and lots of quizzes, but if you're not a slacker you shouldn't have any problems whatsoever. ^.^ I love her class.
Amazing teacher. Tests are mostly on lecture and a little out of the book. Very informative. Super helpful. Wants people to succeed. Gives chances for extra credit. I learned a lot in this class. Fair teacher. You get the grade you earn.
Wonderful class. Learned a lot from Dr. Kerr about Archaeology. Tests and quizes were based on lecture. She's funny and wants her students to succeed. Fair teacher. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in Anthropology or History.
Encellent teacher. I took this course online. I recommend this teacher highly. I really enjoyed this course. Lots of reading, but you will learn a lot if you take the time to study.
Taking class online - she's hard to rate, cause she can be very cool about some things and then sneaky with the others - like giving you hints for discussions, which is cool of her, but her quiz questions are a little difficult - I caught one that wasn't ANYWHERE in the notes or lectures. I like her overall.
She's a very nice lady but sometimes acts a bit hyper. 95% of my class doesn't care about Anthropology (they just needed a G.E. class) so noone seems interested in doing the work. You'll have 2 textbooks to read from each week, which can be a pain. Interesting class, but science is not my strong suit. I'd recommend her though.
shes a good teacher, shes funny and makes the class fun, its not like wow what an amazing class but its a good class i actually pay attention, she makes everything seem so simple but i dont like her grading method, we only get 5 points per week and that is a chapter quiz we get each week. thers is alot of reading involved with that class
I had no idea what anthropology was before I started school, I love it, she is very helpful, and if I need any more questions answered she is always there for me, and always returns my e mails. There is a lot of reading but if you dont care about your grade youll probably not do so good.I was going to major in Bus.but thanx to her major in Anthro.
Awesome pfrofessor. Quizzes could be a bit challenging, but if you read you should do fine. Overall great teacher :)
If you take this class online expect an on-campus commitment. The quizzes were challenging and so were the tests. Definitely read the material she assigns because there is no way one can finish the tests and quizzes on time without reading first (in other words, looking for answers in the textbook while taking the test isn't going to work!) :)
She's a nice person, but archaeology may not be everyone's suit. The tests were fair and everything we did in the class worked toward preparing you and making sure you knew the material. She's a person who really wants to see her students succeed.
Dr. Kerr is a sweet teacher who is always willing to answer questions. 101 is not an easy A...You need to study lecture and text! The tests are tough. The lab (105) is lots of fun and really helps you understand 101 better. I highly recommend this class to those who want to expand their knowledge on out biology and evolutionary path!
Excellent professor. The course is interesting too. Weekly 5-question quiz. 2 Exams, 1 Final; half is multiple choice, the other is 2 essay questions which are given beforehand on her website - she gives 6 questions, you answer 2). One book report. I highly recommend Kerr. Very helpful with questions and funny. Great course but you must study well!
Ridiculous amount of work for an online class. Timed weekly quizzes, 3 timed long exams, weekly discussion essays (200+ words), 5 large time consuming labs, textbook and two additional books for reading. Plan on this being your ONLY class. I would have liked to have enjoy the class and learning instead of always busting to get stuff done.
Prof Kerr is very well organized, knowledgeable and thoughtful. I highly recomend her. I agree with the class details below, and you have to memorize'taxonomy'. Do what you're assigned and you'll do fine. She's very nice and helpful. Take her for sure!
Study. Study. Study. It's not and easy A, but it's possible. Take good notes. Go to every class, test questions straight out of lecture. Actually cares & is more then willing to help if you ask. Extra participation points possible.
She is a pretty good teacher. Im kind of biased because learning about fossils just isnt my thing. As a teacher she is very passionate about the subject and does a decent job explaining the material. The class is pretty difficult if you dont read the book or study. The only exams we have are the midterm and final plus weekly quizzes.
Dr. Kerr is a fantastic teacher. Highly organized. Weekly reading quizzes, so be prepared to read. Finals are not too hard. Extremely helpful and would highly recommend. Also, she offers extra credit, which is always nice.
I took susans online class for anthro 101 and it was extremly difficult!!!! do not take it! she does not return emais in a timely manner and she does not return phone calls. you have to pay 50 extra dollars for an online program that she uses for labs. I paid the 50 dollars and I could never access the program! maybe it was just bad luck. however s
One of the top tier teachers at the Modesto Junior College.
Good teacher. Kinda boring course material unless biology is your thing.
FYI: This class, Physical Anthro, was taken online. The instructor is helpful if you ask her questions. Although she does not respond right away. I do not recommend taking this class online-- very fossil/specie heavy. Interesting but very complex. She requires too much of you for an online class. Maybe she shouldn't teach a class online?
I took Forensic Anthropology as an elective class. That was a huge mistake. This class was full of students who have taken the class 4 times and were majoring in the subject. This made it very difficult for us non-anthropologic majors to excel since the in class exercises were group based. Avoid this class unless you are majoring in it.
Very knowledgable and interesting. Class is not easy, but very comprehensive.
Dr. Kerr is a great teacher. Just pay attention and attend every class and it will be smooth sailing. An awesome class to take if you like Anthropology. Also to get an idea of what the class is teaching think of it like the TV show BONES instead of CSI
Great online class. Wasn't easy, but it is an interesting topic. Some friends said Bolter is easier, but who knows really. 7 people got A's and 11 B's and 1 D. Two F's that finished the class and 10+ F's who dropped the class early on or mid way though the semester. Hope this helps.
I found the class extremely easy because I love Anthro. It was almost a review for me. I over heard my classmates saying they disliked the class or found it difficult. But I really enjoyed it. Dr. Kerr is funny, fun, and nice. You can tell she loves Anthropology. In order to succeed well in the class you must attend and do your work. =)
Not an easy class, but do-able. Lots of reading and writing. Books and attendance mandatory, quizzes almost every class. Lectures are boring and have little structure. Pretty tough grader, but has lots of extra credit chances. Exams are pretty tough, because she grades harsh on essays. Interesting class but have to work for your grade.
She is very good the subject is very interesting but like any science class requires work to keep up. She makes the class approachable. She also keeps track of students progress. Which shows she cares. Overall great teacher Complicated subject
I am glad I took anthro 101 with her. highly recommend you go to class every time so you don't miss important material. gives a lot of extra credit. I got an A, but I studied a lot for her class, ESPECIALLY for the exams.
A very fun class I took just to fulfill a requirement but ended up enjoying the class a lot. Her journal assignments make the material easier to digest and to prepare for the tests. If you stay up on your reading and journals you should do well in her class. She enjoys teaching the material and it shows.
She's a really good teacher. Only thing I could say that's kind of negative is that her tests are really hard. Other than that, her class was one of my favs so far, was very interesting.
Great instructor!! Very easy-going, helpful and knowledgeable. She is pretty laid back and willing to help if you ask for it. Class is mandatory, and so are assignments. Do your homework, (there isn't much) and attend class.
I have a lot of health issues and struggled with keeping up in class. Dr. Kerr was so overwhelmingly understanding and helpful, as she is to all her students. She truly wants you to succeed and is willing to go out of her way to help make that happen. That said, the classes are rigorous, if you're not up for some hard work, don't take the class.
Very well organized, good lecturer. Lots of writing, but very helpful if you go to office hours. Makes appointments. As always, you'll do better if you read the book, but you could probably scrape a C without it.
Dr. Kerr is the best professor at MJC. Take her classes.
She is a great teacher. Very nice. Class is interesting you just need to study and pay attention. I got an A. You will learn a lot.
Excellent Teacher!! Would take classes with her again.
What I learned through this class will forever be with me! You will need to make sure to read all text and prepare yourself for intense essay exams. Definitely not an easy class but Kerr was very helpful! You will learn a lot!
I took Mrs. Kerr for Biological Anthropology lecture and lab. She is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is very helpful. Her class is not easy, but as long as you show up and do the work, you will pass! You will have to study because the exams have essay questions, but they aren't overwhelming or difficult. I got As in both!
Dr. Kerr is nice, and the SI tutoring sessions are very helpful. I recommend going to SI weekly AND taking the lab to get a good grade. Participation is not required but if you miss one day you're going to have missed out on TONS of info. Take notes, listen, study hard. Good teacher, good SI teacher.
Great teacher! Very helpful, responds to emails right away, but it was a tough class. I worked hard and got a B. Study, study, study and you should be fine. I didn't take the lab though, just the class. Learned a lot of interesting stuff!
Her lab was more work than I expected from a one-unit course. However, she was very charitable with grading - extra credit for bring a clipboard. There was no discrepancies between the labs and exams. Also, she was very thorough on all the topics she covered. Best choice for a lab class.
Such an amazing teacher, she is extremely helpful, and in love with her work. There are a lot of assignments and a lot of group work, but since there are so many it doesn't matter if you miss you a few or don't do well on tests.
Took Archaeology with her, but she's an osteologist by trade so she focused a LOT on bones. I really felt a lot of content about excavation and processes was lacking. That said, she grades really easy, so if you're taking it for fun, it's a good class. She is very kind. If you're really looking to be an archaeologist though, would not recommend.
Dr. Kerr is an amazing professor. She is super helpful and really knows her stuff. Make sure you keep up on the reading and go to class, sometimes she gives out notes that aren't from the book. The class isn't easy, but she gives good feedback and gives extra credit if you go to the tutor. Great class, really interesting!
This woman has a gift for teaching. I have sat under many instructors and her style and approach is incomparable. Take her class you will love the class and her as an instructor and person. !!!!Simply Amazing!!!!
Took her forensics class last semester, and had an absolute blast!! Dr. Kerr has a heart of gold; she is truly one of a kind. Her passion is anthropology, that much is clear. If you need help, seriously, just ask her!! I am sad I can't take her classes anymore! All these negative reviews are stupid. She's one of the kindest instructors at MJC.
SHE HAS A HEART OF GOLD. The class is very interesting, I took lab with her also and she is always trying to help her students and make sure everything is working out ok. Just to the assignments and study and you'll get an A! Such a sweat lady!
Dr. Kerr is truly a wonderful professor. It is obvious that she loves what she does, and cares deeply for her students. Her assignments and tests are designed to get you to think, but they're not impossible if you study and come to class. Dr. Kerr has a beautiful soul and all of her classes are interesting, interactive and fun.
She tries to make it as easy as possible. Doesn't assign much homework, gives a few quizzes. Tests are mostly writing so you have to know your stuff. S.I. sessions are mandatory.
Kerr is an amazing professor. She gives wonderful feedback and makes sure the expectations she has of you are very clear. The class can be challenging, but if you devote the time you can get an easy A out of it. She will give you all the assistance you require if you struggle. She doesn't let you fail this class if you try.
Best teacher ever. Thank you Professor Kerr for everything. One of the best teachers I have ever had! Class is fun, education, and Kerr is so sweet. Really happy with thid class and professor!
What an awesome teacher! Her lectures were interesting, and she made sure everyone understood what was expected of them. Make sure you enjoy writing, there are essays. I would love to be able to take her again...
In class work (random worksheets, so come to class), powerpoint lectures, journal entry things (about 5 through out, drops lowest), 4 quizzes (drops lowest), 2 test, 1 final (VERY LONG, u have to write essays), & gives extra credit assignments. Very organized. I didnt like the 4 mandatory SI tutoring sessions. But very sweet lady, interesting class.
Dr. Kerr keeps her lectures very animated which helps the students stay involved with the topics. She brings in bones from early hominids and shows videos for the different primates. She uses various techniques for organizing and memorizing information. She's very approachable when there's an issue at hand (SI meetings).
Go to class!
This professor is a really fine mentor and teacher alike. Her class is fairly easy as long as you attend, listen to the lectures, and ensure your understanding of the material. It is a very interesting class, and thus an interesting teacher.
HARD class to learn. Lots of reading. I liked Prof Kerr though, she is easily reachable and very friendly. The topic itself is difficult, or at least it was for me. There are some extra credit opportunities. Quizzes each week, and four tests. Final is cumulative.
Susan Kerr is a very nice professor. She makes sure you pass her class and helps you with any difficulties along the way.
Professor Kerr was awesome at explaining all the required information. Assignments were not extremely hard and you could always ask for help. The three midterms could be a little challenging if you don't understand the material. She is very understanding with issues and was really giving.
Dr. Kerr is a great professor for biological anthropology. Her lectures are well-organized. Good notes and reading the textbook are the keys to passing tests and quizzes (but the same goes for most other courses). She knows her stuff and is passionate about teaching it, so she's ready for (and welcomes) any questions you have for her.
Dr. Kerr was a great online professor. Very organized and class was not too difficult as long as you did the work. My course was only 5-weeks long and was not too difficult so I'd imagine that the regular semester-long course is even easier. Just remember to meet deadlines and you'll do great in this course!
I took this class online. First few days I felt very hard but the professor is very helpful. If you want to take this class, get ready to read. She will give extra credits too.
She does not assign too many assignments a week. You have a discussion, an assignment, and a quiz. She is one of the sweetest professors I've ever had. Her exams are a little difficult but it is entirely possible to be successful. She gives a lot of extra credit and is so helpful if you reach out to her. Highly highly recommend this class.
Dr. Kerr is a great professor! I enjoyed her class for the most part. There were some assignments I felt were unnecessary, like the mandatory SI sessions. She can also be a little extra when it comes to her exams, but she is a very easy grader when it comes to the written stuff. Great class overall.
Dr. Kerr is a great professor. Online inquizitive assignments can be tedious, but doing them will really bump up your grade. Also attending four SI session throughout the year is mandatory, but you'll get a lot of help when attending. It's an amazing class, but be aware of the workload.
I really enjoy Professor Kerr. Looking forward to taking another class with her next semester. There is a lot of work, however, if you read the material and participate she is an easy A. She really cares about her students and you can tell she really wants them all to succeed! Take her! You won't regret it, also very interesting/fun class!
Dr. Kerr is very fair with her grading and is always available to help. However, the class is widely structured around her lectures, which are basically all auditory, so if you have a difficult time taking notes while someone is talking, I recommend a different prof. There is a LOT of material as well so it makes it difficult to study
She is one of the few gems we have at mjc. She cares so much about your ideas, and weird thoughts. I love her so much I visit any chance I can. You can ask her a million question, and she is happy to answer because she loves how motivate you are.
I took lecture and lab spring 2020 so halfway through we moved online (COVID-19) and she began assigning massive amounts of work, labs, and quizzes/exams. This class was one of the worst courses and she was not understanding of how tough it can be to teach yourself science at home while doing labs and so on. I would not recommend her at all!
this class ended up being a nightmare and I DO NOT RECCOMEND. She is very scatter brained and doesnt ever fully answer your questions, the lab and lecture class together is awful and way too long. Be ready to have your labs & exam essays picked apart for every little mistake.. seriously dont take this class unless you want to be stressed out 24/7
Professor Kerr was very unsympathetic during the pandemic. The amount of work she assigned once we left the classroom and moved to online was absolutely ridiculous. Exams got ten times harder and the amount of busywork was so excessive. I do not intend to take another class with her. Don't take this class if you don't have to.
Dr. Kerr makes sure her students understand the material before moving on. Quizzes/tests are based on lectures and readings. Very fun class and great books assigned! Attendance is important- if you HAVE to miss class, get the notes!! A few quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Gives a clear grading scale, semester schedule, and offers extra credit.
I absolutely loved Dr. Kerr's class! I was in her Biological Anthropology with Lab course, and I definitely recommend taking it together instead of lecture and lab separately. I AM NOT A SCIENCE MAJOR. I absolutely dread science and math courses, but Dr. Kerr made this course one of my best experiences.
This is the sweetest lady ever! She always gave constructive feedback and encouraging comments. You can tell that she wants the best for her students and is super passionate about her subject. I hope to find something I enjoy doing as much as Professor Kerr enjoys Biological Anthropology!
Dr. Kerr is amazing! Taking Anthropology online is not easy and Dr. Kerr is always there to help. She can even meet up with you through zoom for help. Quizzes and test can be hard but she gives study guides. She never takes you by surprise. I recommend her.
Honestly does way too much. Like some stuff doesnt even make sense, instructions were so confusing sometimes, dont take this class if you get overwhelmed easy, i do, and i regretted it sometimes because it was just so much for something that could be so simple. Very overwhelming.
Ms. Kerr is one of the best teachers at MJC. The work isn't overwhelming and you can easily pass if you pay attention and put in the work (which isn't much). There is two short quizzes every week, 2 exams and a final. If you need help Ms. Kerr proves that she is always there to help. Easy class, plus an interesting topic, easy A.
Great class with in-class graded projects and periodic quizzes/exams. Sometimes it took a little bit to get grades back, but overall would recommend.
I took Dr. Kerr Anthr110 class in Fall 22 and it was amazing. Lectures were very interesting and labs were as well and got to interact with whole class. Only 4 quizes in semester and 3 exams. Very normal class. Great professor. Can see she is very devoted towards her subject and made the class interesting and made everyone interact. Take this class
Had her for forensic anthropology and she was amazing, really funny, super helpful, respects her students and clarifies alot! she helps with questions and troubles and rlly fun to talk to !
Nice professor great class. My only issue was assignments were not graded quickly. She would say to refer to the feedback of your last assignment but they were not graded and feedback was not available. The flow of the class is different but "follow directions" and you'll be fine. She offers extra credit. I would take her class again.
This prof wasn't bad but very unorganized. Her movies with a message class was easy enough but she never posted the next week's units on time so we were always behind. She would say she was gonna post stuff on Monday but it would be closer to Thursday. And waited a long time to grade things. Okay if you don't care about having your life planned.
She was a very nice lady, but was behind on graded the whole entire semester... Overall it was an easy class, but it was a struggle getting a response from her if I messaged, and assignments were posted late often. Most of the films we watched we did have to rent or buy in order to watch, some were on the school library though. Good luck
Professor Kerr's class has a heavy workload, but the feedback and extra credit opportunities make it worthwhile. Using unstuck ai and being attentive in class helped me stay on top of the material.
I liked Professor Kerr, she will never email you back but she will see your canvas message, if you finish the textbook assignments and study your terminology you will get an A, her extra credit is so easy too it's a given A.
Dr. Kerr was one of my first professors in college and she really took the time to explain procedures. Sometimes a bit behind on grading but I was always a good student so I didn't worry about it too much. Overall one of my favorite professors ever and I'd take every class she offered if I had the time!
So much work to do and makes me confused half the time on what i need to be doing
It didn't show the class here, it is movies with a message. you would think it would be easy but it really wasn't. She grades extremely hard and is so particular about how you do your work, says you do great and gives you a 7 also forgets to open the modules regularly.
This class felt like purgatory, eternal suffering, and my ninth ring of hell. How an anthropology prof can be so r@cist and still major in this is wild to me. Dont take her class, if it's a requirement, just drop out of college atp. terrible grader, barely a prof at all. Bye guys I have to go pull a Britney over this - for movies with a message
God forbid you use certain terminology outside of her course in regards to movie or documentary genres (even when it's applicable and correct) and due to complete incompetence takes two months or more to grade anything so good luck having time to see if you're gonna fail. Sick of waiting on in this class
This is absolutely the worst professor that I've had at MJC by a longshot. The amount of material assigned, rigor of grading, and overload of content made this class the closest thing to living hell that I've had the displeasure of experiencing thus far in my life. I'd avoid this professor like the plague if I were you.
Feels like the gulag was full so they sent me to her class. If you have to take her, may the odds be ever in your favor. 👎
Guys this professor is really really amazing I promise you guys she is so so and super easy and plus her work is really easy if you just focus and understand her instructions you will get a full grade, I really recommend her because she is an easy grading she's not strict over anything I recommend her for everyone.
I love this professor so much because she's super easy guys I promise and she offers extra credits and she's an easy grading overall.
Holy rage bait, this was the worst. Literally wanted to die. Too much work, no feedback, she grades months later, so you can't improve. All movies are outdated like silent films, and she expects you to pick out SPECIAL EFFECTS from it??? Be fr, don't take this class.
Guys believe me believe me I promise she is the best best best professor you will ever take. If you fail the class it's bc of you, you don't do her work not bc of her she's super helpful and easy if you understand her lectures.
She's super great and helpful and all her lectures are easy to understand.
