I didn't like Susan Krook at all because she's really vague and doesn't really explain when things are due, until a couple days beforehand, and even then, she tends to change due dates all of the time. I would take the class from a different teacher.
She is a great teacher and has alernative methods to dry textbooks. She is also very understanding and helpful if you talk to her outside of the class.
The Best!
jumps from subject to subject, stuff on tests is usually a surprise because she doesnt talk about it, never clear on when things are do and changes her mind on assignments while your in the middle of them. wish i wouldve taken class with someone else, waste of time : (
Horrible teacher, unprepared to answer ANY questions, horrible lectures, you always weren't quite sure what to do, and the tests were hard and you wouldn't think that from her. Not logical and very easy to get off the subject.
she was a nice lady-don't get me wrong, but she was not a very good professor because she was very unprofessional and tardy to class. she didn't clearify any of her assignments, and her tests were from the book and she only gave lectures. be aware!
Took two classes from Sue in one semester and both were fascinating if scatty. She is great in Native American, and Cultural is more text book and lecture based though. I am taking a 3rd class from Sue in the fall and I can't wait. Do the work, listen to the instructions and you will get an A. Write something to get some credit too.
Native Americans class
Besides the fact that she would sometimes offend students for their beliefs, she knew the material and was good at teaching. I would take another class with her if I had the chance.

She is a hoot ^^ she is really funny.
I enjoyed her as a teacher, she does tend to stray at times, but overall enjoyed her teaching, she doesn't take attendence, but know who shows up everyday. If you show up and do what little homework she gives you will get an A.
Susan is a really nice lady. She does not assign much homework and the quizes and assignments are generally painless. We went on several field trips for our Archaeology class which was awesome, fund teacher with a nice wit, I would recommend her.
Easiest class/teacher ever! Just show up, participate in class, and do the (easy) homework. A no-nonesense gal, she's got some good dry humor. We watched movies every Friday - it was awesome. She really shows an interest in her subject. Easy A.
Fair teacher, very prompt to respond to concerns. Easy class and had some great views on the subject at hand.
this is the dumbest lady ever! she really DOESN'T know her stuff! too bad she was always 30 mins late and by then the class was over.
err...is she ****? always late and she must've graudated with a 2-yr degree in anthroplogy cause it seems she really doesn't know anything about the cultural anthropolgy field.
Very easy teacher if you show up to class. classes can be boring but she grades in students favor.
Writing assingments were sort of confusing, no real outlines. She basically lets you write about anything within the subject which is nice. Nice women all together, has a sense of humor.
I Would not recomend her to anyone. Extremely unorganized and unclear about what she wants. I was so frustrated throughout the class and lost motivation to attend her class in the very first week. Though she is an easy grader and does try to give students new perspectives but her laid back & unorganized attitude made me hate the classs.
Great professor. Knows her stuff. She is a real anthropologist. I took Cultural Anthropology online & in the summer, so there was some work. I didn't always understand the questions, but I think because Anthropology is not my favorite. I did learn a lot and if you turned in your papers before they were due, she'd correct & let you re-submit it.
Very enjoyable to take a class from. Would encourage anyone to take her classes.
her class is very easy to follow and is well planned nad laid out. the chapters you read are very interesting and the questions you have to answer aren't so bad. she is very timely with responses and grading. she is very nice and helpful as well!
I completely disagree with those who said she was disorganized. She is very organized and always there to help you our if you have any questions. You definitely learn alot if you take advantage of the videos you watch. The reading could be alot at times, but it was interesting. Good class!
Very neat lady, lot's of experience
Online summer class. So-so teacher. Not clear about course content or chapters to read and to skip. Says "grammar is not crucial" but then knocks you for imperfect grammar. Takes her too long to assign weekly homework. Lots of reading .Keeps the hardest part for when you think she'll slow down. Overall, though, online class convenience is awesome
Susan Krook is a wonderful anthropology teacher! She is very helpful and she definitely knows her stuff. She is all about making the class a learning experience for her students. Take advantage of the video opportunities and service learning, you'll get the most out of class this way. Awesome teacher, interesting class!
Worst teacher ever! would show up late and unprepared everyday. she cared more about her morring coffe than her students. had us do weekly hw assingments and never graded them, or let us know what grade we got on them. terrible about posting grades on D2l. Tereible at returning any assingments. Her test are impossible and have nothing to do with wh
Has a serious attitude problem towards her students. Gets anger at students for wanting to know their grade. Very bad at explaining things and giving directions. Doesn?t care about her students. I think Normandale needs fire this terrible teacher. Her study guides are worthless, and her tests are very unfair and biased.
She is a fair grader and knows what she is talking about. She is a little confusing with assignments during the online class, sometimes they did not match the actuall syllabus or there were additional discussions.
Susan was great! I had her for an online class, and she was wonderful about posting grades and notes on our assignments right away. It could be tricky trying to figure out what our assignments were, but overall it was a good experience. I would definitely recommend this professor.
I took the online medical anthropology class and loved it. There was alot of reading and one of the books was not very easy, but she was an easy grader as long as you did the work. She provided feedback quickly on every assignment. I would definately take her class!
she is an awesome teacher however she got litlle bit attitude. I had her online class and she was wonderful and always on time with the grade posting. I will recommend you to take it her class and always work on the assignments on time.
Honestly, I loved this teacher when I took Women Across Cultures online with her. When I took Cultural Anthro in the summer, my mind changed. I took the class online as well and my boyfriend took it as well with me. We would both have some of the same answers for assignments because we would work together and she knocked off points on his, but n
My girlfriend suggested i take this class with her because she loved the teacher but now we have found out she is very bias towards females. Me, my gf and her friend all took the class together and had similar answers cuz we worked together and they both ended up with As and i had a B. If you are a female take her its an easy A if not prepare foraB
think she came to class half the time on something or canceled a lot--not worth your time or money
She was very timely on grading, which was a plus. If you do the work and put some thought behind it you will do just fine. Probably one of my favorite teachers so far.
I have taken several of Sue's online classes & 2 archaeology field schools w/her. In person, she is a riot, and yes she has a strong personality. She has always been very supportive of me.Keeping open communication with her is important. She is understanding & flexible if you work hard & DON'T MAKE EXCUSES. Hwork is straight out of book and clear.
Anth1899 as an online course: Her weekly assignments are fairly straightforward; read a couple articles and answer a few questions on each. Grading is fair, and all exams were open book. I felt she could be more clear in her use of D2L though. Instead of individual updates to the news feed, she would just tack onto the first post. Tough to follow.
Anth-WS-Soc -Tough grader, typos in all her writings, excessive articles, non-interactive online class discussions, very disappointing class and I am a Woman's Studies Major :( Take with caution and have time to devote.
Expectations are not explained well and she seems to switch them up throughout. When asked a question or clarification the answers are vague or they seemed to bother her. There weren't any opportunities to attend any hands on activities. I would recommend a different instructor.
sue was great! she was funalways willing to help, just do you show up ready to disscuss ayou will get an A.I'd taher again in a second.
I felt the class lacked structure. The teacher wasn't very interactive, unless someone asked her a direct question. Maybe i'm picky, but all of her posts were poorly written & had mistakes. I felt like maybe because it was a summer class, she just wanted to rush through and get it over with?? Fair grader and material was really interesting.
Fairly easy class although it is a lot of work. Weekly D2L posts and responses, 4-5 articles to read and respond to each week and short answer midterm and final. Very interesting subject though.
She's so intelligent and very flexible. passionate about what she teaches, honest, fair grader, gives good feedback on papers, will look at papers before you turn it in watched very good films. not lecture based. homework load is light. learned a lot. very easy to get an A just do the work. isn't strict about lateness on attendance or work
She really doesn't cover the material from a scientific perspective. One of the discussion questions asked if you "believed" in human evolution. And in order to satisfy the "lab" requirement, you just had to attend Prof. Bonnie's lecture. What? Uninteresting and often uninvolved instruction, but she blamed this on the online format of the course.
Super easy. Assignments were read the chapter and answer the ?s in the back every week. Write 3 short super easy papers. Doesn't even grade grammar or writing style, just wants to hear your opinion. Extremely easy. Wouldn't notice if you missed class
I went into this class expecting a fun semester what I came out with was nothing learned and $600 wasted out of my pocket. Unorganized, no rubric, and no helpful feedback on anything! We watched movies everyday or were given unclear powerpoint to learn from. Kind of a crazy lady to say the least. Would never ever take a class from her again.
Very easy class to pass. Very understandable, knows her stuff and is very opinionated. Every week there is a few questions due. Two easy papers. I never read the textbook just did the questions which we opinions and common knowledge. However it was very interesting, would take again!
Susan Krook is the best profesor that I have ever had. She cares about her students and knows her stuff. Sure, she can be late maybe once or twice but who isn't? Give her a break. She always uses the best grammar and shows dedication and appreciation to her classstudents. Normandale has never been so lucky.
I LOVED this teacher, I HIGHLY SUGGEST HER FOR MEDICAL ANTHROPOLOGY she made it very easy for us to understand the assignments, gives partial credit for late work, and doesn't give many assignments. after taking this class i felt a lot better about myself, i would take any class with her again!!!! you will not regret taking this class with her!
Online class and sensed her passion and knowledge for ANTH+ARCH. Class is fairly easy. Average week is 1 film w discussion questions+chapter reading w turn in questions. Easy 2 skim book+films. Quizsessay style. 2 papers. Susan is not very clear. Weekly films were impossible to find (often titled wrong)seems annoyed when u email about confusion
Sometimes things weren't clear either on newsfeed or tests. Overall, it was fine.
Overall, it was an alright class to take. I feel like she was a bit more disorganized than other professors I've taken, but she graded fairly and it was an easy A for me. Just read the material and you'll be fine.
She really cares about you and wants you to pass, so she'll do whatever to help you. Her and Pat sometimes get off topic during lectures, but they are hilarious together. The tests are really easy. Attendance is part of your grade, but class is so fun that you won't want to miss it. She tries to get to know who you are.
She has a sly and blunt sense of humor which was entertaining. Her classes were unstructured however and there was a lot of homework. Also when she says quiz she means test.
Susan should not be an online professor. Her class was extremely disorganized and each week the assignments due were unclear. It is obvious she is not internet-savvy. Be prepared to watch a video every week (1-3 hours long), post in the discussion several times and answer weekly questions. I would NOT recommend this class to anyone who works.
Ms. Krook was not clear about her assignments. She would post about three paragraphs in a post and you would have to carefully read it to figure out exactly what was due that week. The syllabus was disorganized and hard to follow. The discussions are really important, they actually weigh more at the end than the actual final.
I took her online Archaeology & Prehistory class. I loved learning about the major archaeology sites around the world, and learning the history of them. The videos she assigns can be long (1-3 hours). Discussions are based on the films every week, and there is chapter Q's due every week. There was no final exam, and 1 research paper. Easy class.
I would NEVER take a class by her again. I took her online class and lets just say she is one of the most unorganized professors I have ever met. She never was clear or made sense. For our 7 question essay midterm, she barely looked at them & gave everyone A's. She was so unprofessional. When I asked for help she told me to ask the other students
Susan is great! I highly recommend any online class with her. She is very straight forward with her expectations. The workload can be heavy, if you wait until the last minute. Stay on top of the reading, homework and discussion posts and you will do just fine! Aside from that, she only assigned 2 exams and 1 research paper.
Professor Krook is great. She is a very easy-going teacher, I honestly feel like every assignment is based on completion points. If you do not pass her class, you're plain lazy. I recommend her to everyone! As long as you complete each assignment, her class is an easy A. The textbook is required, must read multiple chapters each week.
Susan is a little disorganized, but overall a good online professor. After making a mistake in the schedule, she let me take an exam at a later date. She is very quick to give work back, and gives good feedback. She incorporates current events into the reading. Each week she had us read a chapter of the text and write 1-2 pages.
Easygoing and forgiving style, she wants students to succeed. Video clips in this class were < 30 minutes each. Essay questions can get rambly to the point of being incoherent (she doesn't put commas in some of her longer sentences) but not a picky enough grader for it to matter.
She's EXTREMELY disorganized. Spends half of class contradicting herself on upcoming due dates, so you HAVE to check the D2l announcements CONSTANTLY. Casual Lectures (Tenure complacency) Reading and Video Heavy Offers supplementary stuff but doesn't clarify what's required vs optional. Easy Tests: mostly essay question reflections on main topics
You need to read the textbook. Weekly homework assignments are questions from that chapter. You just can't skim and expect to answer them. She expects solid answers with references. If you have the time to read, you'll do great. Otherwise, you'll lose a few points for not answering fully. Discussions are opinion based. Midterm and final aren't bad.
I loved this class! She is very passionate about what she talks about and is easy about late work / easy on grading. Would 100% recommend.
Native American Voices class. Decent amount of reflections, which were easy to get full points because they were subjective. But there was really no set schedule for the course, sure we went to digital learning half way through, but she was bad at posting due dates and sticking to them. Also many larger assignments and papers didnt have ruberics.
Worst teacher i have ever had. Put zero effort into teaching this semester. The only assignments for this class were answering the questions in the book. No discussions, no video lectures or podcasts. She gave me 3 zeros on assignments that after emailing her I ended up getting FULL CREDIT. Its been a week and she still hasn't changed my grade.
Very disorganized & isn't integrating well to teaching online. It's an easy A if you turn in anything, she does not provide feedback even when asked in an email. Seems like she just hands out A's, doesn't teach, no lectures or teachers notes. Just assigns articles out the book, assignments are just ??s from the book. Interesting topic bad teacher
Mostly discussions and readings from the book weekly. Also answer textbook questions weekly and one research paper. No feedback on paper and quite rude in emails. Interesting topic though.
Things you should know: Doesn't actually teach, only info comes from the textbook, two movies, and a book. When asked for feedback or to clarify on a task, she has told people to go ask classmates. Tried to give me a 0 on a final paper I wrote based on her instructions (which were unclear). I got an A only when I confronted her about it. Just no.
I learned a lot. You have to read about a chapter out of the textbook every week and the assignments all come from the textbook. The weekly chapter questions are worth a big % of your grade but they can help a lot. You need to be willing to put in work. On the quizzes, I wrote 250-500 words per question and that was enough to get me an A.
Rude in emails and writes like a distracted kid with lots of spelling errors. Hard to understand her prompts, docks points when you don't answer exactly how she expected. Once I figured out what she was looking for (long answers, doesn't matter if it makes sense) I finished the class with an A. Disappointing, as I'm truly interested in the subject.
This is a good class to take for Medical Anthropology. The assignment is the same form every week. You read the textbook and answers questions and the exams are pretty much the same form. There is also some movies and a book you "have" to watch and read, but the main bulk of the class comes from the textbook. Krook is a nice and kind professor.
Very interesting class, but I wish she talked to the students more. You just read from a textbook and answers questions on it every week. Still a very solid class and I enjoyed it greatly.
I have never been treated so disrespectfully by a professor in my life, nor have I been berated and publicly sworn at in a class. Susan Krook is unprofessional, immature, and unfit to be a professor at this institution. She has a lack of regard for everything down to the school she is teaching at. Do not take this class.
I was so excited to take an archaeology class but this ended up being such a waste of time/ ,oney. She doesn't teach. She assigns 1 ch, the ch questions, 2 films, and 2 discussion posts on the films per week. Easy/boring. Questions are ambiguous but she still expects a specific answer and will dock points. She even says "this class teaches itself".
I was excited to take archaeology but this was a waste of time/money. She constantly says "this class teaches itself" aka she doesn't teach it. 1 ch reading, the ch questions, 2 films, 2 discussion posts per week. Easy/boring, but questions are ambiguous yet she'll dock points if you don't answer the way she wants you too.
You have 2 videos to watch, a chapter to read, questions to answer from the chapter and discussion board. You must always respond Saturday or before or else she docks points. She wants long responses to her questions. You MUST participate or else your grade suffers. It was an OK class but I would not re-take it.
This class was so easy. All you need to do each week was a discussion, watching the films and reading the chapter given that week. You have assignment due every Saturday at 11:59 you are always given feedback from the teacher and if you get a low score it gets dropped at the end of the semester. There are 4 quizzes no tests.
This course was very writing heavy! It consisted of watching 2 short films on archaeology per week, reading a chapter in the textbook, and answering the questions for the weekly reading. Both the midterm and final involve writing answers for question prompts, and she expects thoroughness. She also does drop a few of the lowest scores.
Susan shows that she genuinely cares about her students and anthropology. She gets confused easily and often posted the wrong dates for assignments or confusing directions. It took a few weeks to figure out what she wanted us to do, but after that, it was very easy as long as you participate. Discussions and assignments weekly.
Susan's online class is organized very poorly, and she uses the announcements page for everything, causing important information to be hard to access once it gets buried under another one of her long rants. I was confused the entire semester, and when I sent an email asking for help, she just told me to look at the class page. Very frustrating!
Doesn't really teach anything and the class is heavy on writing. She wants long answers for the homework questions and she could come off as demeaning sometimes.
She was 100% the worst professor I've ever had. My dad passed away and I couldn't participate for 2 weeks she tried giving me 0s (bumped them up to 5/10) and refused to let me do makeup work. She insisted I didn't do work I had completed, and when I met up with her to talk about makeup work she said "What your grandpa died" rudely. Do not take her.
