Can't believe how hard she worked. Always stayed after to help. Seemed like we really mattered. Would take a class taught by her again. Wish she was single.
She makes an impossible class doable. Would take her course again.

She knows what shes doing, she will do whatever she can in her power to get you to learn.Very personable, very thorough. Very fast paced , dont come if your not ready to study.(unless you've taken chem. already) I wish she taught more science classes.
She is absolutely awesome...one of the best professors i've ever had. I came into the class thinking it would be incredibly difficult, but she made it very managable. She will work with you as much as you need and is so wonderfully sincere.
OH Pleeease! We're talking Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Some days she appears ok, others insecure and patronizing! Take an experienced instructor.
Had Chem b4, u r good, not? study time min/30+ rec. Too many quiz, not enough homework, prob in text lacking. Lab fun, lec need simplify difficult material not stuff u can read ur/self. Instructor talks 2fast, mood flexuates, often unapproachable or helful w/quest unless go to office hours. Green, insecure, slightly unprofessional, needs experience
Note: teach yourself and use instructor/students as sounding board. Beginning-instructor appears confident/happy. Comment on the class/ask for more info, her mood shifts dramatically,it is taken personally. She can be condescending/unprofessional. Careful, she can throw daggers while smiling. Why? Insecure/lacks self-confidence.
Sue was by far one of the best professors I have had at Sierra. She is very concerned with helping her students succeed. She was always very sweet and if you get to know her as a friend, you'll find she has a great sense of humor. This is a tough class but Sue taught me the logic behind it and some tricks and I got an A in the class!
Took the class over summer, difficult in itself. Sue really tried to help. A good teacher and a nice lady. Since she is a new teacher she is still trying to work out her curriculum, but all in all a great teacher.
Sue is an excellent teacher! She wants everyone in the class to succeed and will help in ANY way she can to make sure you do. She may seem a bit unorganized at times but it just comes with being such a new teacher. She is one of the best teachers i have ever had and i HIGHLY recomend her.
Chemistry is a hard subject, especially over summer. Sue is THE best chem1b teacher at sierra... i dont care what the others said... i've had burns too... sue is so willing to help you.. she wants you to pass (unlike burns, who doesnt care) The class is a little difficult, there are quizes like every day... I admit i studied my butt off... but it was all worth it in the end... !
I took Sue last semester and am now in Micro,I never really saw how spoiled we were with Sue, she ruined it for all of my other professors,I have such high expectations and expect them to be as helpful. For those students that are compaining in the other ratings about her being nice/rude, and insecure, they have issues and need to seek counseling
She will be good teacher if she learns to be less insecure. She has bad mood swings. It is obvious from her facial expressions and voice that she favors some students and she can’t stand the guts of others (not very professional). I hated those encouraging “quotes”, like they will help "lazybones" to get with it. Her exams are reasonable.
Sue is badass. She's is an awesome teacher. If you have a problem with her it's because you're either insecure about yourself or you're a moron...or it could be that you're an insecure moron. I hope she comes back to Sierra.
Sue is the Best! She's wonderfull! I wish she was still at sierra so I could take other classes from her! Not only was she a great teacher, but when I see her around she always makes time to help me with my other classes. She's smart, funny and really commited to her students. She pushes me to be a better student and a better person!
Great Teacher!! KUDOS!!
a really interesting lady and teacher. you are really lucky if you get her. she makes chemistry easy and is a very altruistic person. she is freakin halarious as well. really try to get her because she is amazing
I had absolutely no interest in chem before this class. Sue helped me to understand and learn. Yes, you have to study, but Sue is there for you every step of the way. I cannot say enough about her- she is kind and helpful. By far, the best instructor I have ever had.
She was rude from the moment I walked in the door. She told me that it was not a good time to ask questions, and I had just gotten there. She told me that I would have to try to add for 2 weeks and even then there was a slight chance if any. I did not care for her from the moment she opened her mouth.
This was a psycho teacher... you never knew what kind of mood she would be in. She was plain rude to some of us in the class. Couldn't believe some of the things she would say. Although she wanted to help certain people... if she didn't like you, watch out because she will make your life miserable.
She is probably the best teacher i've had. people just talk smack about her becuase they didn't get into the class. she usually tries to scare people off the first few weeks so that the people who really wanna stay can add the class. but she is so fair she'll help as much as she can.
I never thought that I'd like Chemistry, but by the end of this class I was thinking of switching from a Nursing major to a Chemistry major. Sue is an excellent and fair teacher! She cares about her students and wants them to be successful and it shows in her teaching.
Professor is very unapproachable. Students are required to phrase questions in a way that makes the teacher happy rather than to get a straight answer the first time. Overall avoid this class with this teacher, chemistry is hard enough without having to deal with the teachers mood swings. Only pro, grading system is set up so you can't really fail
One of the most difficult to deal with teachers I have ever had. The only positive thing I can say is that her grading is fair. She is on a huge power trip and is extremely unapproachable. I've never had a teacher be so unhelpful and melodramatic. She plays favorites based on your grade. I was more than ecstatic when this class ended.
Just another Chem teacher who wants you to bow down to them. She loves those who are naturally amazing at chemistry and will take the credit for those who get A's but will ignore those who don't. If you ask for help be prepared, she can make you feel really stupid. She has her favorites so if you can kiss butt, do it. she likes starbucks!
Comes to class completely unprepared. She actually admitted that hadn't looked at the slides in over 3 yrs. Can't work problems, messes them up and then tells you to just trust her, the short cuts work. She had absolutely no idea how to conduct labs, and then would wonder why you went to someone else other than her for questions.
Lectures were thrown on board without clarity. She made an otherwise easy class, hard by her COMPLETE LACK of organization and thorough explanation of topics. It would take double the time outside of class to sort through the jumbled up mess she made of her lectures.A chimp would have been better than her. Save yourself the frustration.
Completely moody. Instantly went on the defense if you asked her a question. Unapproachable, has a cunning smirk on her face when she teaches that is completely demeaning towards students. Stated, and I quote, "I am resentful to be here." Does this sound like a teacher you want? I don't even know why Sierra hires her back.
Sue was the best teacher Ive ever had.She helps you so much if you do not understand something. She goes out of her way to meet you outside of class to study with you.She really wants all her students to pass. She stays after class if she can to help you more. She will answer any questions. She loves it when you ask questions.TAKE THIS CLASS.It is grea
She was helpful at the start of the semester but became more & more moody toward the end. If you're great at Chem, super and if not...she was less inclined to help. When you ask a question, be prepared! She won't answer it otherwise. You'll spend a lot of time trying to make sense of the material. The Chem tutors were more helpful than she was.
She instructs very fast, but she will slow down to make sure everyone understands.
wow, where do i begin? Have you've ever heard of sybil? This teacher is a nightmare to say the least. I took her for chem.2A last semester. She belittled students in front of the whole class, many broke down in tears. Sue was always moody about something, and her students got the brunt of it. She would come to class hung over from the night before
Sue is a very unhappy lady and she takes it out on her students.Sue had a way of making students feel small and stupid. If her wicked glares could kill, we would all be dead. This women hates teaching, its obvious. She told the class on more than one occassion that she hated this class. Please quit and save future students the agony youv'e caused us.
she is amazing she takes time to help you and has met with students for hours at a time before test to help you. she gives practice exams to every test prior to the tests along with a key. the test is almost exactly the same. if you do your labs an keep up the class is easy. the material is hard but she makes it very clear. shes amazing and takes h
Constantly makes u feel like a complete loser. Hope you're good at chem cuz if not ur screwed. she's absolutely useless for help. bipolar, brings her****ty family life to calss, came in HUNGOVER a few times last semester! Made my friend cry, overall, evil woman who doesnt deserve to teach students.ever. anywhere. PICK ANOTHER PROF! TRUST ME!!!!
The only nice comments about sue on here are from the ones who kissed her butt and wipped it n BOUGHT her starbucks. Don't be mislead. She is a horribly troubled person and should be medicated.
Sue is a good person and genuinly wants you to suceed. However her teaching is scattered and confusing. Chem comes easy to her and she cant break it down in laymans terms. She can be cold at times and just out of it. I do like her practice test as they do prepare you for exams. She test on lecture and not the book and is generous w/ partial points!
She is a great teacher! I loved her class and she definitely made it fun and interesting. Sure the material can be hard, but its chem so what can you expect. She teaches at a good pace, gives practice tests that are just like the real ones. Show up for class and do the work, it'll be easy. Great class, I highly recommend taking it with her!
This professor is a bipolar Nut! She should not be teaching at all. She brags about having a Masters in Chem yet it feels like she just barely got it. Take her at your own risk. I would not recomend her to anyone!
this women is a lunatic, she has this evil smirk she gives when shes mad and she rants about how she hates our class, that were the worst class shes ever had. she can't teach lab to save her life. she is mentally unstable and sierra needs to fire her for the sake of the students.she also belittles you in front of everyone, she makes u feel stupid
Totally hot
It's so funny reading all you pathetic Chem 2A losers whine about how difficult you think the class is. I'll bet you the reason why she acts the way she does is because she knows she has to go through another semester with a bunch of lazy students who want everything handed to them. I'm pretty sure she wishes she didn't have to teach any of you.
Looking back, i would say she is the best chemistry teacher. I hav taken all of the chem classes at sierra and all the teachers, and I would say she is the nicest of em all. Not to mention she is hott, kind of looks like teri hatcher. Just study, get help, and do well on tests, you'll hav great time, i did.
Best chemistry teacher I have ever had. She makes the subject very clear, is very good at explaining. She also can make most of the subjects interesting and fun! It is hard, (chemistry, duh) but not as hard as I was expecting. Not very much homework, the tests are easy so long as you study. She is very nice but definitely not a push over. :)
This was the best teacher I have ever had at Sierra! She goes out of her way, even on weekends, to help u study for exams. She is hilarious! Gives Extra Credit & best of all practice exams before the actual. Chem is super hard, but if you put the effort into trying to understand & learn the material, u will definitely get an A! UR THE BEST SUE!
One of the best teachers that I ever had and I am a returning students who earned my BA from top UC school. She is very dedicated and really cares about her students. She often sacrifies her own time after hours and during weekends to help us. She doesn't even take lunch breaks so she can have longer office hours. She makes Chem easy.
Sue is a very dedicated teacher. I could not believe how much of her own personal time she gave to help students pass this class. That being said, I do have a problem with a professor that notes on her syllabus that she likes starbucks gift cards and lets everyone know when her birthday is (again, on her syllabus). Very unprofessional.
Sue SO ROCKS! Best professor I've ever had, and I've attended some highly ranked schools. She loves Chemistry and makes learning it fun! Gives students extra help on weekends/evenings if she can. Practice tests are great, she puts up tons of practice sheets per chapter with answer keys! GO TO OFFICE HOUR! She is AMAZING, and hysterical to boot!
BEST most dedicated teacher i've ever had. will go above and beyond to help students, although her lectures can be a little unclear and seeing her outside of class seemed vital for this course. she is also very motivating and pushes her students to try harder. thank you sue!!
She is one of the best chemistry teachers at Sierra. I was in a bad car accident a week before finals week and my chem book was thrashed. She lent me her book and gave me extra notes to study. Other students also let me photocopy their class notes so I had something to study from. She will meet on the weekends for study sessions. SHE IS AWESOME!
Don't take this teacher. She discriminates and chooses who she feels deserves her help. I annoyed her with my asking help cause she felt I wasn't studying. No extra credit offered. If you are late she takes 10 points off. Her lecture is nothing from the book. Her tests are designed by giving the hardest possible question and many trick questions. S
Sue...you rock! This class is difficult and requires ALOT of time outside of class, but Sue goes above and beyond for her students. Starbucks study groups, office hours during the week, some extra credit...She's very passionate and very sweet but she requires a level of maturity from her COLLEGE students! Be hardworking and take her 2x and you'll d
I was worried about taking her class after all the negative things said about her on this website but she is a good teacher. She has her moments but don't we all? She makes herself more than available to help her students, she is amazingly smart and really knows her chemistry. I would take her again.
Summer 1B- extreme class is an understatement. Sue is great, I never saw any of the neg personality traits in these comments from others, she was always wonderful, gave up her eves and weekends to help us. I can imagine I'd be grouchy too of I had to teach whiners who were not smart enough for chemistry then blames the teacher. NO complaints, Sue rocks. Practice exams are wonderful, buy not much xtra credit. She doesn't drop lowest exam, which most profs do.... No make ups.
Excellent teacher. She is very helpful and makes herself available to students even on the weekends. She is so nice and not to mention an easy grader. Tests are like the practice tests. I wish she would let us drop the lowest exam. This class is definitely not easy especially during the summer and the teacher acknowledes that. Best chem teacher!
Summer science = hard. And 350 characters is not nearly enough to do Sue justice. She is an amazing teacher/woman. She is the definition of dedicated, but she will not go easy on you. Take chem over the summer if you need to- but only if. Sue will make or break you.
I can't imagine having a more helpful and willing teacher than Sue. She knows that chemistry doesn't just come to you and you probably already forgot what was in Chem 1A. Some surprises on tests used to 'weed' out the A's she says, but mostly VERY VERY fair grader. If you take it over summer be prepared to live it but she does everyting to help.
I must say that Sue is degrading at times and helpful at others. She is very moody and has embarrassed students. If you ask for help during lecture depending on her mood she will eat you alive. She makes mistakes but isnt forgivin with yours. She makes lecture confusing and goes very fast. Favoritism is the worst part about her.
favorties. hard grading. unconsistent in grading. very hard tests with many trick questions. horrible explainer and scatterbrained lectures. not approachable. only likes you if you take her chem2x class. strongly recommend a different teacher.
Sue doesn't seem to like helping you when you ask her a question. She makes you feel stupid, especially when you ask a question in front of the whole class. She is very moody! I felt her powerpoint slides were not very helpful, and I had to teach myself a lot of the information.
Sue is very rude and seems to be in a bad mood most of the time. Does not put much effort into helping people when they ask for it. Very quick and skips the details when explaining.
susan is a wonderful teacher! she is prolly the most "real" teacher iv had.if shes hurting or in a grumpy mood she shows it and she tells you.but she is human we can all get that way.she is fun cracks jokes back when we decide to be funny!her assistant is amzing also. you can totally get an A in this class if you want it.
Sue is a sweetheart. I feel like anyone who has something bad to say about her simply didn't want to put enough effort into the class. It is a hard class, you have to work for it, and you can't expect the material to be spoonfed to you. I did all of my work, studied a lot, and had no problem getting an A.
Sue is very approachable and incredibly helpful. She set a very relaxed and friendly mood in the class room. Throughout her class you will become prepared for the ACS exam at the end of the semester as well. If you want to enjoy what can be a very stressful class I recommend take Sue.
Sue is a great teacher, Chem 1B takes a lot of work, and she makes sure you learn the material. She prepares you very well for the end of the year exam, and whenever you don't understand or have a question she is willing to go over it with you. Many of the people who have complained on here did not put the adequate work required for the class.
Awesome person;goes out of her way to make sure u succeed. Provides plenty of practice & is reasonable, but I do not like her teaching style. She is all over the place, her powerpoints are no help, she makes concepts WAY more difficult than they should be. Dont like that homework material is assigned before she teaches it. Im an A+ student
Sue is a great professor. She aims high for her students and teaches more than needed. If you aren't willing to do work this class isn't for you. It's crucial that you put in the time and effort for the class is you are aiming for an A. Amazing chem teacher.
sue is great.if u arent hardworking dont take her class. no matter what anyone has rated her on this site it comes down to how much work you are going to put into the class. you need to be present everyday and take advantage of any extra credit assignments available they will help you in the end. do all of the practice tests and study daily
Absolutely take this class with her if you're able. Lectures are on-point, gives tons of practice work, and prepares you extremely well for tests. Difficult subject, but Sue keeps things light and exciting. She's also an all-around great person- kind, friendly, funny, approachable. Among the best teachers I've had. Just be prepared to work!
I was not impressed with Sue's erratic teaching style. It lacked depth in areas where it was evident she did fully understand the subject-matter. She was prone to drama and did not encourage critical thinking over simple regurgitation of her material. I completely stopping using her for help. I got an easy A but only because I love Chemistry :)
I love Sue she is the best teacher I have ever had. I took chemistry in high school and struggled to pass. Her Chem class I have an A. I really like her teaching style. Also as a plus i have never had a teacher take time out of her weekends to form study groups with her students before tests! I highly recommend taking her class!
Sue is awesome! I had a hard time with chemistry in high school and now with sue as my teacher in college I understand! She is great highly recommend her!
Chem is 5 hours * 30 class sessions = 150 hours. That's a lot of time to spend with someone who is largely a turnoff. Fortunately, there is a book which covers the material pretty well. If Dr. Kurnett is reading this, I would advise her to put her equations on Powerpoint so that the students can follow them.
Very caring teacher. one of the best teachers I've had!
took chem 1b with her in summer. extremely demanding course but do-able if you're dedicated. eat, sleep, chemistry, repeat. 4 exams, 3 lab exams, 20 labs, tons of quizzes, and loads of hw. signing up for 1Y highly recommended! she's extremely nice and approachable. do not sign up for this class if you cannot commit 4 days a week for +6 hours a day.
avoid at all costs! don't be fooled by her pretty smile. she is very condescending and and doesn't give clear explanations.
I highly recommend taking another instructor. I didn't find her helpful at all and ended up teaching myself the material with online tutorials.
I thought I was going to have a tough time understanding Chemistry, before i took this class it was my worst nightmare. Taking Sue's class has built my confidence for Chemistry and I've come to love it. She grades fairly and teaches pretty good. Highly Recommend! Attendance is mandatory as well as hours of commitment to this subject!
Beneath a sweet plastic frozen smile lies one of the most condescending personalities you will ever endure. She is very full of her self and will look down on her class. As a teacher she speaks and lectures very fast, assigns alot of homework, and often struggles to teach the class concepts that come so easy to her. That said, she is still the best
Sue is one of the few great professors at Sierra. The class itself is hard but she will help you get the grade you want if you work for it. Sometimes she does snap but, overall she is a great teacher who cares about her students success. The tests are copies of the practice tests with different numbers. 3x & 3y are great practice for test as well.
I very much enjoyed coming to this class because she is super hot. There is a lot of work, just dedicate a lot of time for this class. It's easy work though. She's very personable and genuinely cares for every student. She even brings snacks to keep us awake and gives out emergen-C if ur not feeling well. Did I mention she's hot, I loved her class
Sue was a great professor. She really wants her students to succeed, and gives extra credit a lot. For every exam she gives out a practice exam which is EXACTLY how the exam will be, just different numbers. This was so helpful!! Sue was always willing to meet outside of class and even had extra classes on Fridays to help students!!
Sue is by far my favorite professor at Sierra. She really goes above and beyond for her students. Always had healthy snacks during lectures, extra lectures on fridays, lots of extra credit, and practice exams for every test. I couldn't have asked for a better experience, definitely recommend!!! Not an easy class, but she makes it manageable.
Avoid at all cost. Beneath that smile of hers she is extremely condescending and rude. she will say yes you can do this and then the next day she will be like that is not allowed and i never agreed to that. She yells at her students. treats them like they are nothing but trash and should worship her. she cant even explain basic concepts .
Sue was overall a good teacher but definitely hard to work with at times. Made you feel lower than her and simply stupid for asking a question. But on a good day she was great.. offered lots of extra credit but towards the end of the class it seemed that it just disappeared..
I did not enjoy taking Sue's class at all. Although I like chemistry, having her as a professor ruined any interest I had in the subject. She does give practice exams but rarely (if ever) made a key. She relied more on students teaching each other than actually teaching herself aside from introducing the basic concepts. She made you feel inadequate
One of the best science teachers I've ever had! She's super friendly and funny. Chemistry is no easy topic but she makes it pretty easy to understand. Pretty chill teacher compared to the other Chem teachers at Sierra. Take her class
In the beginning of Chem3A she seemed like she was going to be a nightmare. By the end of Chem3B she became one of my favorite profs. Many of my classmates felt the same way. This semester she did away with the lab book and went with a worksheet style lab. That alone saved me 2-3 hours per week on the class, and prepares you much better.
Chem is an amazing yet time consuming and difficult subject. Sue will warn you of this, so consider your other classes. READ the textbook!! Do the homework! UNDERSTAND the labs. Be willing to reach out for tutoring. If Sue gives you a worksheet, make sure you understand it all. She works very hard, you should be willing to as well. Have fun :)
Sue has become one of my favorite professors. I took both 3a and 3b with her and felt I learned a lot. After two semesters with her I became a chemistry major. She isn't perfect but cares greatly for her students and truly wants you to succeed. Study the worksheets, do the homework, read the book, and come to class/lab. If you do this you'll pass!
Sue is a great person and a great teacher. She isn't perfect, but she tries hard and loves her job. I would absolutely reccommend her. You have to work hard in her class but she definitely provides all the resources you need to succeed and is willing to help you how she can. Take her class, just realize that she is a human being doing her best.
If you get the chance to take Sue, go for it! She quizzes every week but she does it on things recently learned. Never on something random from weeks prior. EVERY EXAM HAS A PRACTICE EXAM SHE WILL PUT UP PRIOR TO THE EXAM. It gives such a great way to study. If you can do every problem on the practice exam you will do good on the exams. Great lady!
I liked Sue at first, but she has a tendency to get off topic alot. Her lectures tend to be very dry and she assigns a LOT of homework. You have to earn your grade, do not miss hw or quizzes as it will hit your grade hard. Also labs, always go to lab. There is usually a lot of follow up work you have to do post lab. Overall, nice but not the best.
TAKE PORTER! Sue's lectures are bland. Her exams are so difficult, she expects you to know everything about the chapter. She thinks her class is the only one that matters, if you can still get into Porters.... DO IT while you can.
Awesome teacher, extremely tough curriculum. Chem 3A was the hardest class i have ever taken in my life. That being said, Sue was an amazing teacher and is really passionate about the material. If chemistry comes easy to you, this class may be a good fit.
Sue is been the best professor I have every had! She is very approachable and caring. Chem is a super hard class so get ready to work!! If you are ever struggling she is more than willing to help. She really does care about you personally and you as a student.
Sue is the best professor I have ever had. Sue clearly outlines what you will expect threw out the course. Do all your homework, labs, extra credit, and read the chapters ON TIME. It all comes down to points at the end. Guys this is Chemistry and it is one of the hardest classes you will ever take. Put in the effort. Ask questions and be organized.
She is a great professor. Clear when instructing. Reviews the lab before you start. Fair grader. DO EVERYTHING ON TIME. She accepts late work but not worth it just do it on time. No practice exams but worksheets she hands out are helpful. Study that and look over your labs and you should be fine. Only bad thing is she's passive, very off putting.
You really have to teach yourself a lot in her class. She can be very condescending and gets frustrated when her students don't 'get it' right away. She can be rude when asked questions and is visibly exasperated. She seems to lack the ability to explain her subjects although she clearly understands it. AVOID if you can!
Tough class but she keeps you motivated to keep striving. This was the hardest class Ive ever taken. I went to tutoring weekly for this class. Attend class and do the extra practice worksheets she gives you. Extra credit is very minimal. STUDY YOUR NOMENCLATURE AND GET IT DOWN. 3/4 of test/quizes involve nomenclature.
She's a caring professor, just has a lot of tough love. She may seem intimidating but it's your grade so ask for help. Network with other students, that helps greatly. She post practice exams online which also helps. Don't slack off or youll burn up later. she also brings snacks which is amazing.
If you're not a good test taker I would not reccomend. Half of her tests are multiple choice, and the work it out kind. Her lectures were all over the place, she never finished a lecture completely, and it was unclear what would be on the test. She offers basically no extra credit and is not that approachable. I worked my ass off and got a B.
Sue wants you to succeed but it's hard when her lectures are all over the place. Very tough grader. Multiple choice questions 3 pts each. She takes off a lot for sig figs. No extra credit. VERY temperamental-don't ask too many questions. If her lectures were better organized this class would be easier. She gets an A+ for bringing snacks, though.
Sue was an amazing teacher. She places an emphasis on learning over grades, and she really cares about her students. She is kind and detailed in her explanations, and very easy to talk to. Even when shes not in the best mood, shell still try her best to give you the best education possible. She also brings food to class in case u skipped a meal.
Great teacher!!! I just loved her. Exams are not hard since she gives a lot of practice.
Sue is an okay professor. She definitely makes you work for your grade. Go to tutoring if you do take her class cause a lot of the time her lectures dont make sense. Sometimes she just talks and talks without much explaining. Good luck lol.
Hands down best professor I've ever had. She cares about all of her students. She brings snacks every day and emphasizes learning over grades. It's chemistry so it's still a tough course but if you pay attention in class the material should come easy. She teaches with lots of fun anecdotes and constantly gives inspirational talks. Easy to talk to.
You better come to class ready to teach yourself! Lectures are unclear and scattered. This teacher is a complete head case. Thrives on flattery and is very inappropriate with behavior and is very self conscious about what people think about her. Her class is run on her mood. Its all about the teacher. Never available like she says.
She's a strict grader and makes you work for your grade, but if you work hard, you can get a good grade. All of the points I lost were on me, not because she didn't prepare me. She's a very fun professor, but expects you to apply yourself and to do your work well and on time. She's very nice and brings food to all lectures. Great professor.
Sue is okay
Sue isnt easy to talk to. I think her intentions are in the right place, but she does not have the character to support it. Her lectures are washy, and fizzle out towards the end of semester. Prepare to teach yourself. Unless you dont have a legitimate question, she wont answer anything for you. Shes tenured, so it means shes done trying.
Took her over the summer, was our lab instructor for 6-8 weeks. One of my favorite teachers. Has a lecture for almost every lab that supplements the lecture well. You will lose a lot of points on sig figs so make sure you learn them well and take your time on notes. Try and get to know her, she'll check in a lot to make sure you're doing well.
took her over summer for lab not good at explaining at all also a tough grader got 4 points off because of sig figs
Overall I think she was a good teacher. She had her moments when she was fed up with the class, but she was fair the entire way through. Chem 1B isn't an easy class for anyone, so make sure you do your homework.
I think Sue did a great job teaching and preparing us for exams. My only qualm with this class was that she sometimes could be very unapproachable and would often scold us for our behavior like having phones out or talking too loud during lab, which I think fostered a high school esque environment that allowed some of the students to act out more.
I feel as if I would've done better in this class and gotten more out of it had it not been online. Professor Kurnett tried her best to adapt to the online format by hosting daily Zoom meetings but she seemed a bit disorganized. Take her class if you need to but there may be better options.
This professor does not care about you! I was a late add and she dropped me a week later because I didnt do 2 assignments which I did not have enough time to do when I had already emailed her multiple times and she never responded. SHE IS INCREDIBLY PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE. Shes also super unorganized and has 0 empathy.
Sue is one of the most miserable people I have encountered at Sierra College. Funny thing is she tries so hard to come off as nice but that is all just a front and you will quickly understand that she is a miserable person who has no intentions of being nice or helpful. Her online class is absurd in terms of her canvas shell. It is pure chaos.
She degrades her students and uses passive-aggressive comments when students are asking for help with homework assignments. Other students also feel this way. I decided to withdraw from her class. As a polite thing to do, I sent her a very lengthy email about why I took a W, hoping for an explanation. All she said was that I "made a good choice."
The most passive aggressive professor. Ignores questions (and is anxiety ridden about us using google!), Often claims that people are cheating, sends Remind messages that are degrading, made an assignment due one day; but had a different due date inside it (this was to keep track of the good students as she says). My mental health Not okay.
She is extremely passive aggressive in her announcements and in her comments when grading. I had high hopes for her because she genuinely seemed like a really nice and caring person at first. I was wrong. She is the rudest professor I have ever encountered at Sierra. You cannot ask her for help or else she gets upset, but she always asks u to ask
I wanted to like her, but she started being so rude to her students and got offended every time a student asked a question. Assumes her class takes priority and is very passive aggressive, Im scared to even talk to her because of that. She scolds students constantly through Remind about using google even though her videos are bland and unhelpful.
She tries to be nice, and comes off as condescending and rude. She is constantly saying to ask for help and then refuses to help you. I dont want to ask her for help anymore because she constantly ignores you and makes you feel bad for asking her. She is degrading and rude. Do not take her class.
I'm glad everyone is writing reviews about her lately. I think she has lost her mind this semester. Talk about being in the wrong line of work... a professor is supposed to be helpful and understanding not hateful and rude. What a loser of a professor, she should be ashamed of herself. The dean should be ashamed she has a job there.
I actually really liked Prof. Kurnett. She's been very helpful to me throughout the semester so far. She tends to "help" people who are naturally good at chem. She also is extremely passive aggressive and her online format can be a little stressful. If you ask for help she'll give it. Overall I really enjoyed the class. Sucked being online though.
Well, Not sure where to start >:( She will not help you if you email her. She will simply ask you if you read the instructions. A mountain of work every week with little instruction that she claims explains everything. Definitely would not take again and the other students who were in the class feel the same way!
TBH, I don't understand why ppl are giving her a bad review? I have a 97% and you know what I did? I went to every zoom. I read the book. I watch her lectures. I do the practice worksheets. ANYTIME I have a question, I email her about it and she ALWAYS helps me out. If you don't put in the effort, you will NOT succeed. She cares about you. :)
I have too many words but to oversimplify, terrible teacher and an even worse person. She asked for student feedback about the class, and when most of the class said they disliked it, she made no changes and blamed the students. Tests based on a made up periodic table of her own. Very degrading, aggressive, refuses to help, sets you up for failure
I cant believe the people who are posting about their grades as if thats an excuse for how she treats people. If you arent already good at Chem you wont pass her class. I have a 95%, and she has been nothing but passive aggressive when I ask for help. Shes disorganized, I am still waiting for last weeks lab information. 4-5 stars? Yall lying.
Communication to students is not very good at all. has discussions due weekly (most of the time) and on Canvas, puts the due date as Tuesday, but says that you have to post by friday for full credit- and only really says so in the discussion description. For people who have a tight work schedule, i wouldnt recommend her.
Lets just say she was the worst science instructor Ive ever had in my whole life. She just dont care.
The main thing I learned from this class is that I'll do everything in my power in life to beat people down who behave like Professor Kurnett. It is not cool what she does. Sick person.
Wow. Lots of complainers here. I've asked for help numerous of times and she's helped. The HW is set up like your exam. I would say she over communicates. 6 zoom meetings a week. Canvas announcements. Even Remind. She's wants to help and puts in lots of effort to be there. Yes, she has been passive aggressive but that's because ppl were cheating!
Lets just say the worst instructor someone could possibly have. She is so rude and mean lady when you talk with her in person . She just dont care about your hard work. Shes just looking for perfection. I wish I couldve taken any other instructor
She is really aggresive
WORST PROFESSOR EVER
I'm changing majors, but Sue is an amazing Chemistry professor! She graded assignments really fast and provides helpful feedback. Sue really encourages people throughout the semester. Exams and lab exams are formatted the same way all the assignments are.
In my experience, teachers are suppose to be kind and truly care about the success of their students. This is the first teach I have had where this was not the case. I continually felt talked down to and as if I was stupid. I have never been made to feel this way by a teacher before.
Lectures are Mon-Sat & she suggests attending twice per week. Sue is honestly one of the most helpful and caring professors I've ever had at this school. Worksheets and quizzes are very similar to exams. The periodic table was changed at one point for a test because people were caught cheating. Sounds fair to me. I wish she taught Chem 3B!
The worst teacher I have ever had. She is rude, aggressive, and uncaring towards students that struggle in her class. She WILL talk down to u if ur not performing well and she only favors students that are passing. Also, so much unnecessary hwk, she literally has u take a test on a periodic table she made up herself that doesn't even make sense
Hit and miss with Sue. One moment she's the most caring person ever and the next you are talked down to. Her in person quizzes are easy to prepare for and have no surprises. Her exams are MC and she uses a test bank from Pearson, so do the homework. She gives a lot of practice material so easy A if you do as she asks. Overall, she's fine.
She's is actually pretty cool once you get to know her and actually put in some work, show up to lectures, Labs, and take notes just be open minded and willing to learn and it will all fall in place.
This professor would lose my asignments even though I would turn them in on time and sometimes before the due date. I asked for her to help me understand problems with conversions factors but her mehtod of helping did not benefit me in understanding those problems. Sues teaching mehtods are unorganized and can get out of place. Not good 2/10.
Failed her class twice. Took it at a 4 year and I got a high A. from my experience, she truly does not care about her students success or wellbeing and at times it even feels like she goes out of her way to make students miserable. Would not take again.
Professor Sue is so smart its kind of intimidating at first, but she is very caring and has a good sense of humor. She always has good advice on how to memorize things and is available for help if needed. Great Professor, would absolutely suggest her to incoming students.
Sue is a great professor. My only complaint is that sometimes she goes too in-depth with some student's questions and loses focus sometimes. Other than that Sue is very understanding and caring when it comes to her students. Her tests are difficult but she gives plenty of opportunities to practice the material.
Get ready for burn out half way through the semester from this class alone. This class was made way more difficult/stressful than it needed to be with an insane workload. Pretty harsh grader, exams hit/miss with what was actually taught in lecture. 4 different exams the last few weeks of the semester. Save your GPA & take another professor for 1B.
Sue is pretty great. Take the time to ask her questions one on one and shell help you with anything. This class is tough and its hard to understand the topics. 4 exams, 1 final. Gave us quite a bit of extra credit and sometimes would give us very helpful practice exams. Youll need to put in a lot of work and exams are tough but thats the course
This prof is very invested in students' success. Those that rated poorly likely didn't take advantage of all the resources she provides. Very clear about quizzes and due dates, texts to remind us. All of the lectures/practice is relevant to exams, rarely was there a surprise. Exams have some multiple choice, and she's generous with partial credit.
She cares more about correctness rather than learning. You have to teach yourself before the lecture because the "lecture" is just doing practice problems with almost no teaching. Minimal explanation as to why you are doing something and the purpose. Quiz every class and hw through Pearsons. As a person, she is kind and focused on student access.
Great teacher. Very clear explanations and lectures. Labs were really interesting. The class does require some memorization of certain concepts. Was a good intro to chemistry. Really wants her students to succeed.
1B is a heavily loaded class, no matter who teaches it, be prepared for that. Read the textbook before or after the lecture will help a lot. Self-study then ask specific questions.
Sue cares about student success is very responsive to text/email, and considers student input. Lot of quizzes, two dropped, but that and practice exams will prepare you for every exam. Can use lab notebook for lab exams. One downside was online hw through pearson, even then, you get 3 attempts. Need txtbook for hw but also read before lecture!!
Sue is great she gives lecture worksheets and practice exams that are optional but so helpful for the tests (some are even worded the exact same). She's always available if you need help and even brings snacks. Also if you go to Sierra College and are stuck deciding between Stuart or Sue, PLEASE GO WITH SUE it will save your grade.
Two weeks into school with this aggressive, mean-spirited woman and she dismisses an entire classroom of students prepared to learn right AFTER taking a ten-minute break because she, "just can't today." 1/2 the class failing week 1 material, she can't be bothered to do bare minimum requirements of her job. Something much deeper here. I'm appalled.
Not enough words to even begin. Tenured tenured tenurrrreeeddd!!! Avoid like the plague.
Sue is awesome. She gives a more understandable explanation of concepts than other chem professors at Sierra. I read her reviews here before signing up for her class and was wary, but I quickly learned the bad reviews are wrong. She genuinely cares and gives countless chances to succeed, including practice quizzes and exams. Take her class.
You either love Kurnett or hate her. Personally, I disliked her. She is extremely sarcastic, but not in a funny way. She's condescending and can't handle when students question her. She just feels super cold and unapproachable. She acts really nice in front of other professors; she comes off as very ingenuine. I withdrew just based on personality.
During my two years at Sierra, Sue is by far the professor who cares the most about her students and takes extraordinary measures to make sure that we are in a good place to learn. Sue is very clear about her expectations, and while they are occasionally tough, they are never inaccessible. She cares about teaching, and about her students.
When you ask for her help, don't tell her that you don't understand the whole thing because she looks annoyed and just ignores you if you don't specify the question. Expects you to know a lot of things, even though she says that she will slow down, the whole lecture goes by so quickly and it's a lot of memorization.
Sue seems like a nice person but being nice doesn't mean you're a good professor. Unorganized class/lectures, easily distracted, doesn't like answering questions, very picky about lab procedures. Overall, you would need to teach yourself and read from the textbook to understand lectures, which is a waste of your time and money.
Where does Sierra find these people? AA?
Sue isn't for everyone, she's intense & very direct. She's also very caring and wants you to succeed. She won't help you if you aren't willing to help yourself, but show her that you're passionate about learning & she will be the best professor you've ever had. Hands down my favorite professor ever, take her class, and work hard.
IMO, was hard to thrive in her class. She is kind and cold. Many people in lab said they were too afraid to go up to her. If you fail pre-lab quiz, you won't get into lab at all and get a 0 on it. She is stern, some people like her teaching style, but I did not. I felt as if I had to be super smart walking into class, but it's a place of learning.
Not good very disorganized!!! Do not recommend!!!
You'll see a lot of mixed reviews about Sue. I know people who love her and hate her. I have mixed feelings. She can be condescending and rude. However, she can also surprise you and be pretty nice sometimes. I don't like having to play games with my professor though personally. If you have thick skin, you'll be fine!
Unorganized like I've never seen before. Impossible to reach outside of class as there were basically no office hours. Rarely stayed on track during lecture, never followed her own syllabus, even became condescending at times. Really did a number on my confidence and interest in chemistry, but also taught me to rely on no one but myself. Good luck.
Sue is one of the sweetest professors I ever took. She always brings snacks for students and is quite open to talk. I recommend being active in class especially if you are struggling because that way she will see that you care about the material and help you and the class greatly. P.s. don't piss her off and don't find out :)
Very bipolar. She gives good feedback and is caring when in the mood, but can often be cold and unforgiving if she's having a bad day (which there are a lot of). Her lectures are often disorganized and tests needed to be changed to reflect things she was actually able to cover. If you are into abusive relationships, this class is for you.
Worst professor I have ever had
Professor Sue can be tough, but her class is manageable with diligence. The lectures and practice materials are helpful. I found unstuck AI to be a great supplement for exam prep.
Sue is one of the most caring professors I've ever had. She pushes you HARD to reach your goals and she truly wants you to succeed. If you don't put in the effort, she's gonna give you a hard time. This is not a class to slack in. I'm so glad I took her class. She taught me discipline and better ways to study. She's the best!
If you're looking for an “easy A” look somewhere else. Chem 1B is a difficult class but Sue was willing to help. Advocate for yourself, ask questions, and skim the textbook when needed. Friday tutoring with Sue helped tremendously, she met me where I was and clarified things. Lead with kindness, and remember the goal is learning.
On some days she is caring and open to answering questions, other days she is short with students who ask questions and seems even annoyed at questions on "simpler" topics. Having to navigate her "bad days" can be difficult for these reasons. However, strictly based on teaching skills she is an avg professor. Overall the course is manageable.
Great professor. Makes sure everyone in class has an understanding of the material. Goes above and beyond to help if needed. I have had this professor 3 times now and she is always great. God lessons that apply to the material we need to learn. She genuinely cares about her students and it shows. You'd be lucky to have Sue as your professor!
Sue is very particular. You either love her or hate her, and can't tell if she loves or hates you. Course is hard on its own, but often felt harder than it should due to lack of instructor support. Grading was sporadic and labs often came back much later than they should have. Also unforgiving about rounding up grades & exams are harder than needed
Despite getting a good grade in the course, it is the worst course I have ever taken. The way she picks on students is unlike anything i've seen from a professor. Absolutely avoid at all costs.
Sue is amazing! She is a very kind person! This class does have a heavy workload, but it's nothing unmanageable. Sue is willing to help almost all hours of the day! She has responded to me at 10 pm before! I would also recommend taking her support class to get extra help. She also gives snacks to all the students to help fuel our brains!
this class actually kept me up at night in tears because of how frustratingly hard it was, and sue being the professor did not help one bit. im usually a straight A or B student, but i could not for the life of me imagine passing this course with this professor. its like she wanted us to fail. pick anyone else i beg of you
I spent an ungodly amount of time on this course just to barely pass. Susan makes this undergrad chem 1b class feel like a full time job. She did not give us notes on the final, despite every other professor allowing it. She made my life so much hater than it needed to be this semester, and I KNOW it was the same story for most of the class.
Set us up to fail and proceeded to get upset at us for not doing well. Our class was the ONLY Chem1B class to not get open-note exams, despite EVERY other professor allowing it. She made a practice exam for the final only to give it to another class instead of her only 1B class. We had to use 1A practice tests for the final. Take ANYONE else for 1B
This class truly taught me that your professor determines your grade. I was a straight A student before this class. She'll tell you "it's just work," yet doesn't set you up for success. Extremely tough grader. Takes off full points for sig figs. No notes on exams or the final. I would've done better with a different professor. You have been warned.
