Excellent teacher. lectures were fast and packed with good info. Emphasis on relation of one group/time to another instead of one-line facts. The class was enjoyable. Essay tests and papers were time consuming, and could be difficult, but you'll learn
one of the best! provocative lectures, very cultural history oriented; readings are original source material, thinking and piecing things together for yourself is a requirement. also, makes super brownies. exams are scary, but overall outstanding.
Excellent, excellent teacher. I can't recommend her enough. It's a relief to finally find a history teacher that isn't a droner. Her exams are killer (essay & ID), so expect to read and study a lot. Also, you have to do essays throughout the semester.

Gives tons of notes, talks so fast that it is hard to write down the right things. When you go to her office she just tells you to either: read the stupid primary sorces book, that college isn't high school or to take better notes.
SHE'S CRAZY, DO NOT TAKE HER!!! she treats people like they are in second grade, and gives incredibly stupid tests that leave you in the dark.

Very energetic and loves what she teaches. Takes personal interest in her students (if you take the time to talk to her) and will go out of her way to help you. tests are hard, but you will learn a lot in her class.
Horrible Teacher. She's a 40 year old woman trying to look like a 20 year old woman. She doesn't do a good job of pulling it off either. She is a very strong feminist, which isn't a bad thing. However, if you're a guy, be prepared to fail.
Not the most helpful or understanding instructor, but it's clear she loves what she teaches. Tests are VERY hard, if you're not sure what's expected, expect to fail. Beware: Failure of her class is COMMON!
Be prepared to really work your butt off. She gives tons of notes in her lectures, and a lot of readings. Her tests aren't the easiest. I have learned a lot, but the class is stressful.
Her tests are ridiculous. If you don't know what she's looking for (which is understandable) you fail. I made a D, and I was ecstatic.
Why did they hire her? I guess the job requirements were failing the majority of the class, making no sense, and hating the world. In that case, she's the perfect fit.
Horrible, had no idea what she was looking for, hates men!
She is definitely a tough professor, but if one puts the effort in the class, he or she can do good. I'm normally a straight A student. I got a B in her class, but that's still a good grade. I thought she was sexy too.
She does not use text, must take excellent notes, tests are hard comprehensive essay, her 400 level course was easier than her 100 level, you will learn lots, GET A STUDY GROUP for tests!!!!
Hard class. The only class I recieved a C in so far at Tech. Way too picky about essay answers. Steer clear, take another class, she makes the subject much harder than necessary.
I hated her personality, the way she dressed, and the way she laughed. She gave the hardest tests that I have ever seen in my life and their almost impossible to pass!!!! If I had a choice of rating her with a 0 then I would have!!! She sucks!!!!!
she's not any harder than other history lecture professors i've had. you don't need the textbook. take good notes and study them and you'll be fine for the test.
Laningham is one of the best professors in the History Department. Her factual knowledge is exceptional, and her ability to put the facts into context make her lectures actually interesting. She does not suffer fools gladly, however.
She is very good at knowing her history but all she gives you are really hard tests that seem impossible to pass. There is also a lot of reading involved.
good lectures but test are impossible and students are unfairly graded.
takes lots of notes, lots of reading. The class material is interesting but she makes her tests very hard and it is hard to pass the class. lots of students droped.
Very specific in grading. very critical of essays in writing. you use examples in your answers but you never use enough!!
Her class is VERY challenging, and she can be intimidating at times, but you learn a lot from her. Her lectures are very interesting, and you can tell that she knows her stuff when it comes to history. I really enjoyed her class.
This class is the hardest class I have ever taken! She grades so hard. PICKY!! You can never use enough examples. Obvious favoritism in class and it reflects in grading. Dont take her if you can keep from it!!
Hard class, but was worth the effort.
She is very demanding about examples on test. She wants precise responses, in other words clos does not count in most cases. She is very astute in her knowledge of historand shows it off in the amoutn of notes she gives each day (3 to 6 pages per day).
U will learn a lot if u want 2 but high failure rate, hard tests (essay & F.I.B.) basically have 2 memorize notes, hard ass in class but surprisingly nice when u talk 2 her & ask 4 help, dont take class unless u have a passion 4 the subject.
Excellent teacher!Knowledgeable for those who appreciate it.If you are not a SERIOUS history student, she will weed you out!Don't bother taking her class if you think you're going to get an easy ride.
Her tests are challenging, but this is college it is not supposed to be easy. She makes it very clear what she expects in lectures and they are very interesting. She is also very nice those who say she grades unfairly probably didn't attend often.
I thought she was interesting. Sometimes, she got pretty mad over comments that didn't seem that bad to me. She is a good teacher. I just wouldn't recommend pissing her off.
Busted ass, showed up everyday and still failed! Hell if I know what went wrong, that formula works in every other class, esp. w/ harder teachers than her.
Hard class. Expect to put many hours into it. When you write an essay for her pick an area that is very specific and flood the essay with examples and short quotes. This is the only way to do good on it.
I worked my butt off for C's on the first 2 tests, but wanted an A in the class. I went to talk to her, but she refused to help because I hadn't seen her before the first test. Chooses favorites to make A's. She needs to realize this is a SURVEY COURSE!
first day says welcome to hell, has fav's, dont take this as humanities elective, she is way too difficult for a 1010 class, im studying quite a bit and making b's, very picky, throw in as many details as possible on essays and then add a few more

Not as bad as everyone will tell you, but close. Interesting lecture material. Don't really think she picks favorites like people say, though. Make sure you know every date for everything.
She told me when I added her class that I shouldn't have. I study and take good notes and still are struggling with her very unreasonable, unorthodox grading methods......don't take this class

If you are one of those people that wants to take classes to learn and don't care about your grade, this is it. If you care at all about your grade. Avoid her like the plague.
Be careful with some of the posts on her. She has admitted to writing her own reviews on this site before. She is an awesome teacher, but her tests are impossible. If she would ease up on the tests I would recommend her to anyone.
When I first registered for her classes I was told that she was very difficult. It turned out she was. I had no problems other than not making the time to actually study. In my opinion her favorites are the ones who give the needed effort.
Laningham is awesome! She's so funny, and she laughs evilly at things that amuse her. Her tests will kill you, though, if you don't study. And when she says "know everything", she means it.
I think she may very well be the devil. She gets off on flunking students. I would hate to have a life like hers because I would probably kill myself. I'm surprised she hasn't.
The woman is NOT the devil, she just expects her college students to act like college students and work for their grades. She is fair and you'll leave the class with a lot of information. And those legs do deserve the pepper...
If acting like college students, you mean being her slaves that are afraid to breathe, then yes.
awesome but hard

Very enthusiastic and loves the material she teaches. Studying for her classes is best done in small chunks every night. If you wait until the last minute, forget it. You have failed.
Good instructor and an excellent speaker. Tests were fill in the blank so you either know it or not. Class is designed to be able to recall your notes for the test (not my style)
Fun class but hard. LOTS of reading; way more than in her 1010 class, which required a lot. Two tests that are all essay. Discussion required. Kinda scary.
She is an awesome teacher and loves what she does. The class is very interesting but be prepared for a ton of notes and reading. Don't wait until the last minute to study or you will most likely fail.
A frequent adjective used for her, I will concur with and employ also: "nitpicky." I love history, but her grading standards are absurdly elitist for this level. I have nothing personal against her. This is just constructive criticism.
Great teacher. Expect to take notes and read. No writing assignments and the tests are all fill in the blank. Extremely interesting class and easily made an A. Would definately recommend to anyone.
This professor is horrible. Has to be the worst professor I've had in two years at the school. She's mean, her lectures make no sense, and her tests are impossible. In her lectures she likes to jump around instead of use a timeline of events. She also covers too much information before each test
I like history so I have had no problems with the class. If you don't like history I would say not to take her. She is more for history people. The only thing I don't like is she trys to discredit the bible. She has her opinion and I have mine. I will say I have learned a lot in her class so far
Dr. Laningham is an amazing teacher. She does challenge her students, but it's only because she wants them to learn the material. Also, she does not try to discredit the Bible, she just teaches history FACTS. Religion and the Bible don't belong in a history class.
Laningham is definitely for real students. She does not suffer fools gladly, and lets you know this from day one. The bad reviews she gets are definitely from students who come to class unprepared and unwilling to let go of their preconceived notions of what they believe history is.
She acts like a professor who has tenure and feels she’s untouchable. She enjoys insulting her students rather than teaching them. Perhaps she should take a long hard look in the mirror and ask herself why she became a teacher to begin with.
True bible and religion don't belong in history class; however, she should not say that Christians invented intolerance toward other religions. I am a christian and I have liked her class because I like history, but she should keep her opinions to her self. I am a christian and I am not intolerant
I agree. Not all Christians are intolerant. True Christians show love to people not hate. She does not seem to know the true Christian faith. She expects to much for a intro class in world history.
The reason she says Christians invented intolerance towards other religions is because they did! It is a history FACT. Laningham doesn't make stuff up to upset people. She teaches history facts and if people are too close-minded to hear the truth then I guess they need to take a different teacher
Why does zoroastrianism and hinduism and buddhism belong in the class and the Bible doesn't? That puzzles me. She does know her stuff, but she enjoys making tests hard, and if you dont believe that then you are not being real. I wouldn't recommend her, and this is from a guy who has a B in there.
I have two classes with her. This whole discussion of religion is rediculous. I consider myself a conservative-minded Christian but I haven't once been offended by anything she has said. Dr.Lanninghan is very objective and teaches the facts. You need to grow up if you are offended by her lectures.
Christians did not invent intolerance to other religions. True there is a lot of people that claim to be Christians that did evil wicked stuff in the past. That is a historical fact. A True Christian following Jesus would not have done that stuff.
She isn't easy, if you don't take good notes and have them MEMORIZED, you will probably fail. She makes history interesting and she is always open to questions. She is there to make you learn something, not to give you a good grade. Religion is part of history, and she teaches excellent history.
Does anyone besides me think Dr. Laningham looks a bit like Mary Tyler Moore when Moore was much younger? If you think that's weird, I think that Dr. Webb looks like Santa Clause, Mark Creter looks like Toby Keith, and Dr. Saya looks like Jesus!
Dr. Laningham is a hard teacher. I have changed my opinion of her since graduating. I thought she was too hard to teach at Tech, but I've decided she's just too smart, progressive, and too good to be there.
I would not tell people to take her. I got a good grade, but it is to much to keep up with.

She looks like pat benetar! However, all in all it is a difficult class. When she says learn everything, she means it.
Dr. Laningham is tough but you'll learn a lot. And to add to a post below...Dr. Saya also looks like Viggo Mortensen!
I'm an Engineering major and I made an A in this class. Compared to Engineering classes Ive had at Tech this is easy. All you have to do is listen and take notes in class and review the notes for 2 or 3 nights before the tests. Of course she isnt coaching HS foorball like every history teacher you had in HS and knows what she is talking about.

Very good teacher that keeps you interested 9 classes out of 10. Just come to class, take notes, read a couple 80 page books, and regurgetate the info onto easy tests.
She is not easy, but you will learn something. I had her last half, and I learned more about history from her then anyone I every took.
she grades ridiculously!! She counts almost all credit off for mis-spelling for petes sake! I would not reccomend taking her if at all possible to avoid! And if you're a Christian she'll attack your faith as much as possible! I'm pretty sure she's an aethiest! and she shows it in very tacky ways!!
Based on her personality she seems to be a ok person, but her class is murder. Her method of teaching is based on her talking and you writing down almost everything she says. Also, her grading scale is awfull and her exams require you to know way to much information. I would strongly recomend avoiding the class if possible.
Horrible! Horrible! Way to hard for a humanaties class. Dont let your advisor fool you, if your taking her for a humanities take something else! ANYTHING ELSE! Worst Teacher at TTU! Extremely Hard Tests,
I've taken her 3 times and will likely take her again. She knows her stuff and is always upbeat. Tests will kill you; you cannot fake your way through them. Start studying from day one.
She is a tough teacher but if you go to class and pay attention then you'll do fine. She does bring interesting points up about religion especially Christianity.
She does not attack Christianity. I had her last year for history. She does bring to light things that as Christians we need to face about our history. I learned a lot. I would like to take her again, but time does not permit it. The class did start me on a journey questioning things. We shoud never for get our history, or we will repeat it.
She's a ****, AND I LOVE HER!!! Lecture is interesting and rich. Tests suck ass. Start studying now.
The day before our 2nd test she says "I did tell you all this was comprehensive right?" We all said no, but she made it comprehensive anyway. She does know her stuff. I will say I learned a lot. She will put stuff on the test that she mentioned once all semester and leave off things we spent days on. Does nothing to help you. Studying is the key.
Hardest class I've had yet, but also danged enjoyable. She is very entertaining to listen to. The class consists of notes every day (lots of notes), a couple of small books outside class (fairly boring), and very hard tests. I made an A, but just barely. I'd recommend her if you like history. If you don't, then don't take her.
The Devil!
She is hard, but she is extremely helpful. If you want her help, all you have to do is ask.
Probably the hardest class I have ever taken. Doesn't give very clear dates in class notes, and grades brutally! If you are taking this because it is required, steer clear of her!
Just take good notes.
I've taken three of Dr. Laningham's courses and all I can say is that you better have devotion to her classes. You HAVE to take good notes and STUDY them regularly. Don't expect an A unless you know the notes forward and backward, but if you put forth effort, you should be fine.
Wow, I love the class, but the tests are killer! Especially since you only have 3 tests and that is your grade. She seems very nice, and she knows her history. The tests are complete fill in the blank(including dates) and essays on books you read in her class. I love learning in her class- always something new, but test days SUCK
Challenging, but awsome. Better in upper divsion classes.
Very hard not helpful wants to see you fail!
Study VERY hard and know your notes EXTREMELY WELL. She will ask pointless questions on the test and if a word is difficult to spell then it will be on the test. She loves making the class as hard as possible. She seems proud that 1/3 of her students fail. Pretend to like her in class.
Dr. Laningham is really a wonderful professor. Her class was SO interesting- I looked forward to it every week. Her tests are difficult, but if you study well then they are fine. She wants you to learn and to become an educated person. And that is how it should be.
Tests are too hard and she acts as if this should be your only class. We were only given 3 tests and she misleads the class for what will be on the test. She is not helpful at all and makes a 100 level class hard. And on the first day she seemed very proud that 1/3 of her students failed. I know that some who failed were history majors!!! Crazy!!!
It is a very interesting class! I always enjoyed going to it. The only thing is that her tests are WAY too hard. And when she gives notes, it is hard to follow, because she doesn't really follow a certain outline. You just have to hold on for dear life. But I really liked the class. You just have to REALLY like history.
If you like thinking and learning, take this class. If not...why are you in college? Very interesting class, easy tests if you actually study.
She was an awesome teacher. You have to be there every day, and read all the books she assigns. I studied hard for her tests and got As and Bs.
Dr. Laningham will lecture from the beginning of class to the end. She will have you read books and will test you thoroughly over them. It's a LOT LOT LOT of work to be in her class, and if you miss once, you miss at least 4-6 pages of notes. GO TO CLASS, and study EVERY DAY, and you'll be fine. :)
Why bother to teach if you enjoy flunking students, I thought the whole idea of becoming a teacher was to want students to learn more and come away with feeling good about having learned. It's time to leave if a teacher enjoys seeing students fail instead of passing!
STUDY FROM DAY ONE..SHE WILL FAIL IF YOU DON'T EVERYTHING ON LIKE EVERYTHING. HER CLASS=DEATH SO IF YOU DON'T LIKE HISTORY AND YOU CAN'T TAKE REALLY REALLY GOOD NOTES THEN AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS OTHERWISE YOU WILL FAIL.
SO STUDY
You take notes from the moment she walks in the door, literally. If you are not interested in the class.. I would not recommend. The grade consists of three tests, which are comprehensive--fill in the blank. The tests also include two outside reading books. We didn't even have a textbook! I withdrew from this class, it wasn't what I expected!
DO NOT TAKE IF YOU JUST ARE NEEDING AN ELECTIVE!!! TAKE MUSIC APPRECIATION OR AN EASIER ELECTIVE. I AM AN ENGINEERING MAJOR AND WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR CLASS.TONS OF NOTES. HAVE NO INTEREST IN HISTORY EITHER.
She put on one of the most interesting classes I have ever had the privilege to sit through. She offers insight and personal interest in everything she teaches. However, tests are tricky and grades throughout the class were dismal. I had to drop to preserve my GPA but if you can hang, I'd recommend her.
If you are willing to sacrifice an easy A to really learn something, I would take her. I hated history before I took her class. Her tests for us were multiple choice and matching, though she gives you about 6 or 7 choices to pick from, and they were very tricky. She gave us open note quizzes for bonus points, which brought my grade from a C to a B.
From the first day of class she lets you know that she loves being a b... she must feel so inferior for her to want to be known as that. How sad is that! I have pity for her everytime I see her.
Uses no text book, just talks for 90 min straight. her tests are so incredibly detailed its ridiculous. from the first day of class she makes it clear you are 100% inferior to her. pure dictatorship
No books for lecture, but novels for home. If you put whole books that I've read for this course top of one another it becomes about 5.6" thick(measured). You have to read a lot and, keep taking notes in the lecture, do not just sit and listen. It is a lot of work, if you already taking hard classes do not take it. You'll be messed up by reading.
Without a doubt, she is the best teacher I have had so far in my college experience. She is a very interesting and clarifying speaker and knows so much about the material of the class! She is strict but by no means too strict. I've seen plenty of my class drop due to laziness but that is their only excuse. Great teacher!
Remember the stories you heard about the old days when students actually learned and professors expected knowledge and thought from students, and a degree was more than a piece of paper bought in installments? Yeah.
Difficult professor, but very definitely worth it. Her lectures are the most fascinating at Tech; she covers a lot of material, but ties it all together and helps you make connections you never would have otherwise. Her tests are fill-in-the-blank, and you must know everything. Talk to her outside of class, and she'll do lots to help you.
AWESOME!
Best teacher I've ever had!
Soooooo helpful!!!!!
Her lectures are incredibly interesting, and I loved learning from them. I also read the books we were required to read. However, I barely scraped a C. Her tests are ridiculous, sometimes over things she never even covered. Plus, she tends to be a bit mean-spirited.
Her lectures are fascinating. Her tests are killer. I pulled out an A by taking thorough notes, copying and highlighting my notes after every class, reading all the assigned books, and studying for several hours before every test. More work than you would expect for a 1020 class, but it turn out to be one of my favorite classes.
Aviod taking her, if you have another choice go for the other choice...She's one of those professors that thinks that their class is the only one students have or that they have no life like her. Too much work for a undergrad class maybe even for a grad.
Her class is really difficult, but very interesting. You will work your butt off, but if you like history it's worth it. If you are not a fan of history, however, I suggest taking a different professor.
This is the hardest class ever. The material is very interesting, but her tests are evil. The amount of reading it overwhelming. IF YOU MUST TAKE HER GO TO EVERY CLASS OR YOU WILL MISS OUT. ALSO ALL OF HER TESTS ARE CUMULATIVE. STUDY EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Makes it very clear that her class is a dictatorship on very first day, very rude. This class is GPA suicide. Class consist of taking notes on her talking (no powerpoints, or study guides) and an OUTRAGEOUS amount of reading. Wayyy too much work for a 101 class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Her method of covering the material in her lectures is fantastic. Her tests are terrifying. Her personality is rude and obnoxious. I would suggest this class if you want to learn a lot and be interested but don't mind sacrificing your grade.
very very, hard class..interesting material, but teacher is overly hard!
I did not know what to expect from this course prior, but after being in Dr. Laningham's class I am more apt to take more history courses. Tests are DIFFICULT, but she is an EXCELLENT teacher!! Lectures are stimulating, and she keeps to the subject matter.
This professor is very hard. She compares her failure rate to the Bubonic Plague and brags that the her failure rate is higher. Although, her class is passable. It is possible to make an A. She is very strict and won't think twice before embarrassing you in front of the class. Overall, her lectures are great, but her tests are hard.
Dr. Laningham is a truly gifted historian. She has an amazing passion for her work which she brings to every single class. Make no mistake, her class is HARD. Test questions are tricky and require thought and there is a lot of reading. However, Laningham will prepare you well for the rest of your academic career. I recommend this class for freshman
Respect her and her class.Six books to read but they are short and good reads. She does not treat students bad. She never failed to answer a question and she had my back in class and out when I had an issue at the university. If you wanna learn history then she is a MUST take. She is hard but GREAT at teaching. If I can make an A anyone can.
She is fantastic! I learned so much from her. She is tough, but as expected from college. She tells you what needs to be done and not sugar coated! That is what made her great. She really told us what was expected from day one and expected us to stick to it. She pushes you to the next level! (Which for me, as a history major, is needed)
Horrible teacher. Attended every lecture, taped every lecture on recorder, took notes on every lecture, and then listened to recordings and typed all notes. Result: F Exams have very little to do with the notes as she expects your to remember every word out of her mouth. No realistic chance for a good grade.
If you want to kill your GPA this is the teacher for you!
Such a terrible attitude towards students, but she knows her stuff for sure. Avoid unless you are a history major.
Amazing professor, she'll make you earn your grade though. Expect to read everything she gives you it'll be on the test every time.
All you have to do is take a page of notes each class and look them over before a test. She gives the best lectures if you are even remotely interested in history she will keep you engaged. Only three tests and one exam she drops lowest test.
Mean spirited, arrogant, and a little on the psychotic side. Gives out "F's" and "D's" for petty things.
She lectures the entire class period. Only resources for test are the notes you take during class. We were required to read 4 novels on our own, one for each test we took. Tests were hard, she offered extra credit on one test though. 3 tests (lowest grade of these three is dropped) and a final exam were the only grades we got.
Long lectures but interesting. Tests are difficult but easy if you study. Read the assigned books to do well on the tests. Pay attention and study, and you'll be fine!
long lectures, difficult tests with only for grades so if you dont do well on the tests there are no other opportunities to help your grade. spits out lots of facts during lecture without discussing mandatory readings.
I have never studied so hard for a class and I still ended up with a C. If you love yourself please don't take it with her
She teaches this 1010 level history class like it's for history majors. As long as you're interested in the subject, the lectures keep your attention but she jumps from topic to topic. She almost never writes anything on the board so all you have to study from is what you wrote down fast enough to keep up with her. Tests are hard. Lots of reading.
I took her for hist 1010. Hard but I took her my freshman year and came out with an A. There are 3 tests (lowest dropped) and a final (curved mine by 20 points and most questions are from past tests). There are 4 books you MUST read. She won't go over them in the class. If you love history and take good notes, you will do good. I liked the class
Do not take this class unless you absolutely have to. Tests are extremely hard and the questions are very confusing.
If you learn best by lectures, she is awesome. If not, I can see why some poeple have trouble with her. She may ber harder on upper division classes, but in my survey class it was pretty easy. If you show up, play attention/take notes, and do the readings, you'll do fine (C or above.)
She is great in class to learn history but her test draw out the tiniest detail which you probably don't rember the first test you might get a B or A but after than it is all down hill. I like history and her office hours are odd at least to my schedule, but i wish she would feature something else than multiple choice. I rather write essays.
A lot of people give her flack, but I really enjoy her classes. If you show up, and take good notes, you'll do fine. She gives detailed lectures and gives you plenty of time to take good notes. Her tests are verbatim what she talks about in class, so while class isn't required, you won't pass unless you show up.
Loved her lectures! She really knows her stuff and is fun to listen to. Her tests are cumulative, and they can be very difficult if you don't read the required texts. Pay close attention to details, take notes, and show up every class period if you want a good grade.
Dr. Laningham is a very tough professor but she really cares about her students. She is scary at first but she is really easy to work with and will help you as long as you take her advice. Do exactly what she says and you'll do fine in the class. I learned a lot and I can't wait to take her again.
Dr. Laningham is, without doubt, a gifted Historian and educator. Her witty intellect challenges and enthralls the entire classroom. I have so much respect for her as a professor as well as person. She is kind, funny, and helpful. Work hard, go to class, and show her respect. You will find her and her class a delight if you do so.
She is rude to students. She often rants about tech as a university. Her lectures are very disorganized so it's hard to review for her tests as you have to go back and piece together a timeline. There is no discussion in class about reading assignments. However there will be very analytical questions on the tests about them. Avoid this class.
Dr. Laningham is okayish. She is an amazing lecturer and you can sense her passion for what she teaches, however, she can be blunt at best and rude at worst. I am normally an A student, but made a B in her class due to her reading assignments. Nothing is stated about them in class and no relating to the course content. Just oddly specific facts.
It was the hardest class that I've ever had in my life. I've never had an instructor that took so much pleasure in seeing people fail her class. She's rude and arrogant. I don't mind a difficult class, but I couldn't handle her attitude. In my job if I treated people like that I would be fired. My experience was miserable. It was essay when I took
Dr. Laningham is infamous among Tech students, for good reason. Her lectures are very interesting and informative, but her tests are very difficult. They are all high-stakes. You also have to read multiple books that are never gone over in class. She can be rather rude too and I advise NEVER being caught on your phone.
If there were the perfect example of people who act like they are the absolute best professor at Harvard and no one could correct them, ever, this lady would be it. She was so opinionated and biased for or against certain things, you have no chance if you represent that population. Not to mention the eye rolling and looks she gives. Stay away .
I am a natural in history to the point where I have legitimately never gotten below a B in any history course I've ever taken and this was a god awful class. The amount of reading is astonishing as we were expected to read 10+ books to be tested on for each test and the questions were some such as who does Marx speak to in a bar? DO NOT TAKE HER!!
Her class is purely based on 3 tests and she doubles the highest grade. Her notes are all her opinion of matters with no textbook to back up facts. Tests were multiple choice and NO extra credit is given. Very merciless. Lectures were 3 hrs long at night and the most boring thing I've ever been a part of.
The class is graded on 3 exams, the highest grade being doubled for a total of 4 exam grades. The class is completely based off her opinion, with no textbook to back it up. There are multiple smaller reading required, that are never discussed in class and do not go along with her opinionated lecture notes. Would not take again even if I had too.
Lectures were based primarily on readings from three textbooks. The first test was mostly based on the lectures from the first week of class. My class got sent online halfway through for covid, and so there were no more lectures, only book reports for the textbooks and a HUGE final paper. Dont take her if its not for a major- required class.
She is the main reason I had to change majors. Three of her classes were mandatory for my degree.
I really can't see why this professor has such a low score. Laningham's lectures were engaging and her tests were entirely fair. I only ever studied before each of the 3 tests her class was graded on and aced them, getting a 100% on the final because of the bonus questions she supplied. If you are as interested in history as I am, I recommend her.
To be objective, Dr. Laningham is passionate about Greco-Roman cultural/political history. But expect to put in a lot of reading time. LIFE-HACK ADVICE: Take survey-level "European Civ" at CHATT - ROANE - NASHVILLE - MOTLOW - CLEVELAND - OR PELLISSIPPI STATE. Courses transfer to TTU. Only take Dr. L for required HIST Major 3000 level courses!
Does not care
I genuinely am curious as how you're supposed to study for this class. I'm taking her online class and her content consists of PDF's of text called "lectures". While her writing style can be interesting and she clearly cares about what she teaches, it does not suffice. Don't take this class.
