new professor, not the best, but tries...tests are relatively hard but there is a curve so it isnt that bad...going to class isnt really a necessity if you can get down with the book
um...compared to a sub that we had one day, she is horrible! she explains things like we already know what she's talking about and doesnt really go into detail about topics. You're better off reading the book...curves the tests tho and she'll give you a chance to get your test regraded if neccessary.
She teaches like you already know what shes talking about.she goes really quickly.I never went to class and I still ended the class with a high B. THANKS TO THE CURVES THOUGH!First test is easy I got a 94 w/out the curve. But study good from then on..find a study group. Shes not too bad, but if your expecting an A or B....I would pick someone else!
She's a terrible teacher. Doesn't post her lectures until after the classes but uses slides in class like everyone has them. Good luck keeping up with her jibber jabber. Her tests are hard because she doesn't explain anything. I think I failed every test but the curves were so high I still got a high B in the class.
she wasnt so bad. I got nothing lower than a c on her tests( and only one c)( before the curve). got a B+ and a B on the final, curves nicely tho.
Amazing professor, knows what she's talking about, and gives an accurate curve. Simply the best chemistry professor I've ever had in my life. She doesn't want anyone to fail so she's ver helpful in office hours. Learned a great deal from her class.
She is a wonderful & great teacher. She is so helpful during office hours. I understood chemistry so much better after having her as a teacher. She curves all tests & quizzes & gives extra credit on every quiz & exam. Her tests are easy bc you know what to expect. She gives you the problems out of the book to study so you know what to expect.Easy A
Very straightforward tests. Only got a B because I flunked the final. Ratemyprof. said she curves a lot, but didn't my semester. Loncapa is a ****, but make sure you do it because it's a ton of your grade. She's pretty helpful, get monwar or steigman.Prepare to memorize EVERYTHING, other chem classes get cheatsheets or tables.
Dr. Latturner is interesting for the most part. She is very helpful during office hours. Make sure you pay attention in class because she really wants you to learn the material. She did not curve as much as everyone made it seem like in the past. But I did learn a lot from her. Also she tells lots of dry jokes.
She is a really good teacher. She set up her class for you to do well; she drops lowest test and quiz. Her tests are very hard. They are short, usually seven to ten questions. A couple of little mistakes and your test grade is screwed. You got to study a lot for the test, not just the night before. And by the way there is no class curve.
The last rating is pretty much right. She knows her stuff. For the tests I only studied the night before or that morning and got B's on all of them cuz of stupid mistakes. I got an A on the final and ended up with a 87 in the class and she did NOT curve. I fnished with a B in the class. Study ahead of time for the tests.
took her from chm1045, definatly a mistake. i attended every class and spent 20 hours studying for each test and never got better than a D, ****ed my gpa into a ditch. very unhelpful when trying to get help to prepare.i graduated my h.s. with a 4.1 and 22 hours of credit, now i am going to tcc this summer to retake this class.GO TO DILLION!
HATED this class. Went to every class and studied every day. Had 2 tutors. Got 104's on the h.w & still got 64 and 23 and first 2 tests. Grades harshly, Would've lost my scholarship because of a horrible GPA if I did not drop. If you take her you had better be ready for very mathematical, intensive, detailed tests. Moves very fast and not helpful.
Professor Latturner is not bad at all. She does move kinda fast but if you go to class, you won't be lost. I would recommend reading the book for tests. Her curves aren't that great but they help. Her tests aren't that hard at all. She's helpful during her office hours. Easy class if you study.
HANDS DOWN THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I beg you, if you have any interest in a decent grade or a teacher who at least attempts to grade fairly you will stay away. I used to be a chemistry tutor as my job throughout high school and this class was still terrible for me.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE teacher. I am warning do NOT take this class. Very hard to understand, not clear, boring I did not learn anything in her class. Everything I learned was from an outside source. Unless you are already a genius in chemistry Im warning you you will do bad. Tests/quizzes are all short answer graded harshly. Final= impossible.
Unlike every other chem professor, Latturner doesn't give us the equations for tests, even on the final. Her curves never made a big deal to my grade, and her tests are RIDICULOUSLY hard. Some chem professors actually made their final exams multiple choice, but not her. I recommend taking Monwar for chem, he actually cares about your grade.
Professor Latturner is an awesome teacher. All you have to do is take notes in her class, and then study them before the exams to get an A. I only opened the book twice all year, and that was to memorize the tables she assigned. She also gives ample extra credit on her tests, and drops a quiz & test at the end. TAKE HER!
I went to class every single day, studied for every test did all the assignments and did terrible. I dont know anyone that liked her or had above a C. Im warning you do not take her. Half of my class dropped. terrible teacher.
Most challenging professor i've had while at FSU, but she drops 1 test and 1 quiz grade. no curve for the overall class grade, but she curves every test, the final, and quizzes individually. She also puts at least 1 extra credit question on every test/quiz. masteringchem helps a lot, take it seriously. tries to make it fun.
Dr. Latturner's class is not easy. If you arent dedicated to studying i wouldnt reccomend her, but if you study it isnt bad. The tests are hard but nothing you cant do. She gives plenty of examples and is very helpful if you dont understand something. i learned sooo much.
She is very scattered with her thought. She teaches things differently different days which is annoying. I would now recommend this professor. The times I did go to her for anything I feel like she didn't understand what I was trying to tell her.
great teacher. she is really clear in class, knows her stuff. if you approach her after class she will care about your grade and try to help you understand. she tends to ramble in class a bit, but this is because she cares about her field and want everyone to understand. pretty easy grader, will give lots of partial credit on tests. good overall :)
Latturner was a great teacher. She was very helpful, everything was crystal clear in class or you could learn it from the book. Her tests are more than fair, she offers a ton of partial credit. I definitely recommend her, just review practice problems she does in class and is she's says its on the test, the learn it!
Whatever bad reviews you read about her are NOT true. She is so nice, and incredibly willing to help students. She goes quickly in class, but explains everything extremely well. Tests are rather long and a little challenging but if you study you'll be fine. She also give extra credit. Overall a really great teacher!!
Chemistry 2 is not an easy class regardless. There is not any extra credit, but Susan drops 1 lowest test and 1 lowest quiz which is a blessing to your final grade. I would recommend her just for that reason. Although the tests and quizzes are lengthy, the material on them reflect the material learned in class.
I thought she was a great teacher. Tests were challenging and lengthy but she drops your lowest score and will give extra credit on tests. Very energetic about the subject and will emphasize things that will be on testsquizzes. Chem 2 is hard with whoever you take it with but if you have the opportunity then you should definitely take her.
Absolutely wonderful CHM 1046 teacher. She explained the material very well, and made good notes. Attendance is important due to extra credit on the tests. I heard Chem 2 was the hardest but it really was not that much of a struggle. As with any class you MUST study but if you do there is no reason not to do well.
Latturner is a great teacher. You have to go to every class and you have to go to her office hours. At times, she goes too fast but if you go to her office hours, you'll be fine.
She really is to the point during lectures but the test are long and difficult if you dont practice the material two to three days in advance. If you dont like to study you will do poorly. And she only gave 1 extra credit so far...
Of all the professors for CHM1045, I have heard nothing but good feedback for this one and I'd agree. In comparison to the others she actually cares about her students and is willing to help when you need any. She can jumble her words cause she talks fast but she makes it clear once her thoughts are in order. I would 10/10 recommend.
Lots of quizzes and tests and assigned homework per chapter. Attendance isn't mandatory but the problems done in class are incredibly similar to the ones tested.
She's very hectic and hard to understand. The tests are extremely difficult and never seem to match any "notes" you have. Lots of homework and quizzes that are also hard. She is a decently nice grader and curves when necessary but if you're bas at chem or math don't take her.
chem at fsu is extremely hard but latturner is really funny and makes sucky lectures.. less sucky. i think she really tries to help. there's online homework- tests are difficult and recitation quiz every few weeks. 20 mins ONLY for quizzes aka not enough time.
Prof. Susan is the nicest lady ever, her odd quirky jokes made me smile. She has clear expectations and gives partial credit on tests. Drops lowest test and quiz grade and is a great teacher. Tests are semi hard but very fair bc it's nothing she's not gone over. I wish I could have her for Chem 2!!
She is a good professor who wants her students to do well. Her tests are fair and the work load is not terrible.
Dr. Latturner is an amazing professor! She covers the material quickly but very well in her lecture notes. Her class isn't hard just the tests can be challenging. She does give lots of partial credit so that helps. Would recommend her to any Chem students!!
She was a great chem 1 teacher because it's a very challenging and rigorous course, even more then chem 2 (which I've taken). Her tests are very challenging but trust me it will help you in the future. There is so much you will learn in this class its ridiculous. One of Two C's I I've only received but it's a tough class bottom line.
Latturner is one of the best chemistry professors I've taken (I took this class a few semesters ago). He lectures were fast paced but contained all the information needed for the exams. The exams aren't too hard and she does give partial credit. I would recommend her to all chemistry students.
Latturner is one of the best chemistry professors I've ever taken. She writes out her notes as she lectures and as long as you write them down or get a copy you're golden. She literally takes her questions for the tests from the practice that she posts on blackboard. Chemistry is simple but can get hard and she makes it very clear. Just show up.
SUPER hard tests, unnecessarily hard. wouldn't recommend. if you can, take Dalal, especially if you aren't a chem/science major.
Her teaching style and notes were difficult to understand. The homework she puts up is not very helpful for the quizzes but good for the tests. Tests are moderately difficult, quizzes even more so and there's one virtually every week. No real homework and attendance isn't mandatory at all. Gives A LOT of partial credit and extra credit on each test
Her exams were very easy to get high scores on if you do the practice examples in the textbook. Her lectures can be dry and boring, but she explains the concepts very well and provides plenty of examples. Compared to other chem professors, she is DEFINITELY one of the best.
So far, Dr. Latturner is the best chemistry professor I have had at FSU. She explains everything very clearly using conceptual information and examples to make sure that everyone understands the material. Her tests are very similar to the homework and the examples she gives in her notes, so make sure to go to class and get her notes.
Dr. Latturner is very respectful f her students and displays real mastery over her subject matter. This course was difficult, as you would expect any honors chemistry course to be, but Dr. Latturner is committed to the success of her students. Lectures are very helpful as is the homework for studying for the exams.
She was a great professor and gives you all the information you need for the tests and homework in the lectures. Homework was maybe 3-5 questions and would be due a week from the date assigned (plenty of time). She grades a little picky though, so you need to be accurate and make sure you even did sig figs! Participation/attendance is not mandatory
Prof Latturner was amazing!!! She lectures really fast but keeps everyone engaged, attendance isnt mandatory but she offers 10 worksheets in lecture which count for one point each. She doesnt post any notes so good luck passing if you skip. Overall she was super helpful, really teaches and understands the material, and provides tons of examples.
Chemistry is hard, but this professor attempted to make things understandable. She answered questions during lectures and was understandable with grading during COVID-19.
Now, I'm not the greatest at chemistry, but Dr. Latturner is one of the best chemistry professors I have ever seen. She cares so much about her students and even makes the lectures enjoyable by being fast paced and adding subtle jokes. Thank you Dr. Latturner.
Attend her lectures and make sure you write down the examples she gives because they are similar to her tests and quizzes. Her lectures are easy to follow and take notes on to where if you don't read the textbook it wont really matter too much. As for difficulty, it's chemistry.... Honestly probably the best choice to take CHM1045 with though.
Prof. Latturner has fast lectures that are difficult to keep up with and process. Grades are: 5 quizzes, 3 midterms, and 1 final. Homework is optional but very good for practice and studying. The quizzes are the big issue here: 20 mins, w/ questions that take much longer. Partial credit can save you. She is difficult to contact as well.
Dr. Lattuner is the best chemistry prof at FSU by far. Her lectures are clear and she takes all of the quiz and test questions straight from the optional homework and lecture examples. Its chemistry... its gonna be hard so get ready to study.
Try to find a diff teacher... she grades so hard, does not curve, questions on the test are never before SEEN. AWFUL. I study so much for her tests and everyone I know in her classes are failing or have C's. Good luck.
Course content is complex but Prof. Latturner gives you the resources you need to succeed. Provides excess practice problems that are formatted the same way as test and quiz questions. Listens to student feedback about quiz and tests, and tries to compromise.
Go to lecture for weird extra credit on Tests, she does not post notes. Quizes are more difficult than tests bc time (20 min). Fast paced lecturer, often hard to follow and likes to pack in tough concepts to the last 30 seconds for some reason. Textbook is online, hw is option. She is fine ig, but my friends have had more success with other profs.
She lectures way too fast and it's difficult to keep up. Only graded on quizzes and exams, no homework graded, but she does provide it with answers for studying purposes. She rarely answers her emails and when she does they aren't helpful. Quiz time is 20mins for questions that take longer than that. I have multiple friends failing because of her.
Dont take her. She is a fast teacher and the grades are based only on quizzes and tests, no homework grades. The quizzes are ridiculous at 20 min and she never curves anything.
Worst class Ive ever taken. I could study for a whole week and still end up with a C. She goes extremely fast and her quizzes you only have 20 minutes to answer questions that should take the whole class time. Do not recommend everyone I know either dropped the class, is failing, or is borderline failing.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. Get ready to teach yourself. Try not to sleep during lecture (youll want to). Get ready to study for weeks straight for exams and still get a C. There is no extra credit, no homework. 20 min quizzes that DESTROY you, and exams written on paper that are incredibly hard.
Does not give any assignments, only quizzes and tests. Tests are fairly graded and not too hard. If you attend lecture, and study, you will get a good grade. No assignments just to waste time... i liked her!!!
Professor Latturner is very lecture heavy. Overall grade is based on 5 20 minute quizzes and 4 tests including the final exam. While she was lecturing she wore a mask which made it very hard to understand what she was saying. Handwriting not legible, hard to understand class material, never curves anything. Very rude when responding to emails.
The first C I have ever received in my life. Extremely difficult class. Grade is made up of 5 20 minute quizzes (not nearly enough time), 3 tests, and a cumulative final exam worth 30% of your grade...(test and quizzes in person). I went to every. single. lecture. and still had to teach myself everything. Would study for days and still do poorly.
Let's face it... Chem 1 is a weed out class. That said, prof latturner makes every effort to give students what they need to do well without just handing an A to them. She has exceedingly clear instructions, gives study guides and practice problems that are very similar to exams, and can explain the difficult concepts simply.
Great professor! She takes notes as she lectures so you know exactly what you need to write down. She gives practice problems that prepare you for the exams and quizzes. I studied A LOT for this class but thanks to Dr. Latturner and I had all of the materials I needed to study. If you attend lectures and study you will succeed.
she is an amazing lecturer because she goes fast and keeps you interested
Gives really fast and specific lectures, but have all the info you'll need. She doesn't post notes or PowerPoints so showing up to class is a must. Studying for Quizzes/Tests is also very important, but it's nothing insanely difficult, do the practice problems and review notes and you'll be fine. As long as you stay on top of things you'll pass.
One of the hardests classes ive ever taken. Wasn't clear on any explanations and lectures are very busy and complicated. No homework, quizzes and tests you will barely finish. Good luck
prob one of the worst teachers i have ever had. doesnt teach at all. doesnt give practice problems. recitation goes by super fast. they just dont care about actually teaching content
Dr. Latturner is an amazing lecturer. Her notes are so helpful. Your grade was based on 4 exams and quizzes. I got a 95% on her first exam. It gets slightly harder but keeping up with her notes were helpful. I studied through her homework and notes examples. If you study notes you will do good. I got an 85% on her final. Best chem professor!
Doing the homework is key. Lectures are somewhat helpful. She gives one question of extra credit on the exam. Sometimes it's random stories or comments she says in the lecture.
She lectures starting from day 1 and it's important to go or you will miss. Reading the textbook helps for tests since those are basically your only grades. Also homework and practice quizzes will really help with your passing of the tests. Be ready to study or you won't pass the tests.
If you study the homeworks and recitation quizzes, they are extremely similar to the test. Working through problems on the homework/ quizzes gives you great practice for the test. Her handwriting is a little sloppy during lecture, but personally I prefer watching her work through problems and give examples than just going through a powerpoint.
she didn't teach us a whole chapter before the final so she is having the ta teach it. she doesn't know how to teach at all. she writes whatever comes to her mind with no explanation and just confuses literally everyone in the room. she just shouldn't be teaching college chemistry at all but she seems like a nice woman.
I had to late drop it so my grade wouldn't show up on my transcript, extremely lecture-heavy and you MUST go to class. Her handwriting is insanely hard to read and she moves really fast. Your grade is only based on 4 exams including the final, there is NO multiple choice. This is supposed to be chem 1 not an expert chem class. Go to ressitation!
She is the worst professor I have had in my education. Her lectures are too fast to fully grasp any concept. There is only 5 assignments the whole year, making it difficult to raise your grade after one mistake. Her lectures are disorganized and her handwriting is awful. Please do not take this class.
Her handwriting is atrocious and I think a newborn could write better and her lectures are way too fast. Her grading scale is stupid and compared to other gen chem classes it's unfair. If you need this class for your major please take anyone else, do yourself the favor. Your grade depends on 4 tests so there is no way to save your average.
Her handwriting is terrible, and she just rambles on about her life during her lectures. Her grading scale is stupid. Your tests are your whole grade for the class, and everyone fails them, and she gives maybe a 5 point curve. The homework is worth nothing and takes hours to do. Take ANYONE but her.
Dr. Latturner gives her lectures at a fast pace so as someone with ADHD I was able to lock in. She speaks clearly and is easy to understand but chem is a hard class. Get ready to do homework and study. Don't skip lectures or recitation and you will pass. The textbook can be helpful, there are no assigned readings but it definitely helps.
Notes are messy and lectures are extremely scattered. You'll likely have to reteach yourself everything before an exam, as she is extremely hard to follow and doesn't even explain some topics. The exams are always easier than what you anticipate, so somehow it's not that hard of a class... 5 quizzes throughout the semester that are easy points.
Do not slack on studying content! Chem is not easy, so stay on top of it and study in advance. The class grading system sucks, so if you get a bad grade on an exam it is very hard to come back from it. I recommend going to class. You can skip if you need to, but she gives info about quizzes that she doesnt post on canvas. It is possible to do well!
Very funny and kind but just not that good at explaining concepts. The quizzes are very hard. I did average on tests but failed quizzes and withdrawal from course b/c I would've probably gotten a D+. Take very good notes, study all material given by TAs, and have this be your first priority course to pass.
She explains chemistry as well as anyone. The grading scale is very tough with exams making up a huge part of your grade. Timed quizzes are once every week but there is an unfairly small amount of time alloted, most people do not finish the entire quiz. She seems nice in lecture but wasn't as down to earth after class answering questions.
She explained concepts in a way that clicked for my understanding. Her hand-writing is not as bad as it sounds.
You know what your gonna get by going to her lectures, there shouldn't be a reason why you skip unless your pretty confident in the homework's. Best ways to study were reviewing HW, and asking ChatGPT for more questions to practice or to explain. She's nice, but dont fail even 1 exam or your stuck at around a B even if you ace the other 2.
Teacher was very emotionless and didn't really have the urge to encourage students. Also, no curve or extra credit
Many people say bad things about this class and this professor, but if you focus during lectures and put in the effort to study, you will do fine in this class. She is an interesting professor and takes time during lectures to explain things. She writes notes on a piece of paper in class, so no skipping. Overall, challenging class, not impossible.
Understand that recitation activities are not meant to be preparation for the quizzes. Most of the time, they will cover different material entirely. The study guides are going to be among your best exam prep materials. Utilize the textbook and the chapter questions for practice. She is pretty clear of her expectations and what you need to know.
She's rude and her teaching style is hard to follow. She clearly understands the concepts fine but doesn't have a clue on how to teach them. I'd recommend skipping the class and teaching yourself. Aside from that, the actual class content isn't hard and is more than manageable.
