She is nice and helpful outside of class. Has has bi-weekly in-class quizes (drops your 3 worst) and online quizes that you can use your book (drops your 2 worst, excluding zeros). 2 best tests of 3 worth 25% each, the other worth 5%. Easy if u attend.
SO HELPFUL! I never liked econ before her class, but now she helped me understand and (maybe!) even enjoy it (a little!). She will explain anything and help you out individually, even with 200 people in the class...Would definitely take her again!!!
She is very helpful and gives you all the information needed for her tests. Her teaching is very straightforward and easy to understand. It wasn't the most interesting class but it was easy. She was very helpful.
Not the most interesting subject, but she does everything she can to make it easy. Gives u lot of material to get ready for the tests.
Very good teacher. Explained things thoroughly and made sure we all had a chance to get a good grade.
She knows her stuff, she provides so many helpful resources & uses WebCT so you won't have to take a lot of notes in class. i;ve learned a lot so far.
Very hard. You can try as much as you can but it doesn't help. Tests are very difficult even if you do try her practice tests and read the book.
Wouldn't recomend her. She gives hard tests, You don't get the grade you expect even if you understand the material.
great teacher. do the practice questions and test- you will be set for the test. I focuses on those and did great. Pay attention in class and take notes on slides really helps when studing. Helpful and responses quickly.
Let's see, to do well Prf. Laury's class you have to attend class and use the resources she posts in WebCT. She is very helpful. The tests are tricky so study hard but they are fair.
Tough teacher. SHe will give no extra credit and seems to have a problem answering questions. I felt that She made people feel stupid for asking.
She explains economics very clearly.
She was bad. didn't have assignments graded on time or up on webct when you needed them, which was even more annoying based on the fact we only had two tests. The first test was so late into the semester so that if you did very poorly on the first test, you couldn't even drop the class. Operates on a double standard.
The material is boreing but she explains everything very well. Do all the practice questions and take every old exam and you will ace the tests she gives you. You have to go to class every day or you will do bad. She gave our class lots of extra credit.
Intermediate Micro: She is a very intelligent professor and explains the class material clearly. My big complaint for Dr. Laury is her lack of preparation for several of my class sessions. She would forget to return exams and quizzes on the day promised. Additionally, it was difficult at times to get her to post old items online as a resource.
She explains things well but tests are still hard. You have to go through all of her old tests and through all the practice questions in order to do well on tests. No homework, only 3 tests. Study a lot if you wanna pass.
She NEVER answers her e-mail and did not act very responsible. She didn't give back our test one scores until THE DAY BEFORE test 2. She assigned things, told us to email them to her and NEVER let you know if she received it. She does not seem interested in the students at all, she was short and snippy and always seemed too busy to be bothered.
I had her for micro and macro and exams were fairly easy. She is just a bad teacher. Never prepared, does not return homework or exams, and does not respond to emails. I would only recommend her for micro because she has a better understanding and can explain it well. But macro, take someone else. Classes are boring.
I took Microeconimcs during maymester and she was a great teacher. You could reach her almost anytime of day through Ulearn if you had a question, and all of the practice quizzes and assignments helped towards the test. If you read the book, listen and take notes during her lectures, and do the practice quizzes you'll get an A.
I took Laury for Macro in the Spring. The class is very easy. The one must is for you to do her posted practice questions before the tests and you will receive As if you can figure out the practice questions. Simple quizzes are posted seldomly. Classes are boring but she write the notes with you. Take this teacher for an easy A.
Prof Laury is a great teacher and explains micro concepts clearly. Her exams are similar to the practice questions and account for 80% of the overall grade. I would definitely sign up for her again.
It took me a while to realize what a CTW class was because she does A LOT of writing. She tends to explain things that aren't needed on the test. Her first test was easy with a crazy curve. Second test was hard with no curve. Not very nice to students, and will not let you ask certain questions because she won't explain. Goodluck if you take her!
Prof. Laury is a great teacher. She has a tendency to give you all the information that you will need in big chunks that are not understandable, then come back and break things down into smaller and easier ideas. It is a unique teaching style, but you will be amazed at how much you retain for the test.
Best Teacher I've had so far. I wish all teachers taught like her. Didnt even need the text book because of how clear she taught the material.
I did receive a C+ in this class. It was me and not the professor. I was getting married and not able to pay attention in class. She is a great teacher. If I would had pay better attention I could have received an A. Take her she is very GOOD. Power Points slides is what she quizzes off and her tests.
She's very nice and very smart. She challenges her student and her tests are kind of hard. Just pay close attention to detail and you'll be ok. Also study the practice questions that helps with the tests and the quizzes she gives are straight off the practice questions. Attendance isn't required but you should go!
She is an outstanding professor! She prints off PPT slides for you and and takes notes with you.You have 8 quizzes that come STRAIGHT off her pracice questions, drops lowest 2. 2 tests that also come off practice questions and class examples, and cumulative final. If you go to class, pay attention, take notes and study- you will make an A in this class.
While she is not a bad teacher I personally don't really like her style of teaching. Disorganized in my opinion. However she does teach with clarity and goes over the notes with you. Attendance isn't mandatory but it would be beneficial if you went. Her practice questions for each chapter are good study guides for the tests.
Good professor teaches well. Her notes are everything you need and you can easily ace the class. She however doesn't post your grades up which is annoying, but she does respond to her discussion board. Overall though I think she is brilliant. No complaints. Follow the notes and you are good to go.
Yes, her handouts are pretty helpful, but her tests are actually quite difficult even with the help of her handouts. Also, she isn't an affable professor. Wouldn't recommend this teacher unless you really enjoy learning economics and have some sort of background knowledge with the subject.
awful teacher. she was not helpful at all. she refuses to help out students and is very snippy. only has 2 tests and the final is cumulative.
This class is very hard, her test are not aligned with what she teaches in class nor the practice questions. Good luck if you take her. her style of teaching sucks and she doesnt seem like she cares. she curves the test but they are just really hard. no preparation at all.
Do not take her, you wont learn anything. Not really interested in her students, take someone else for sure.
I like her style of teaching but material can be very tricky. I attended every class and every S.I. session and I never made an A on a exam. May attention to every detail and reading the textbook helps.
I took the class as a non degree seeking student. I wouldn't take it with Laury. I enjoyed the material itself, but found her approachability to be low and her interest in actually helping students to be low. Every class started with complaining and ended with complaining. It was very odd. The class average was consistently below a C on each test.
Laury knew her material very well and responded back fast, but she comes across as a rude person. She was very grumpy every class period. She did provide handouts & practice problems to follow each chapter which was good. Gave quizzes throughout the course that were extremely easy to pass, however, the exams were extremely hard! I don't recommend.
You guys are complaining because you never show up to class and suddenly expect her to get out of her way for you. She is very helpful if you show interest, she will answer your questions as long as you show you want to learn not a last minute lazy student who suddenly expects an A. She is fantastic I took her for micro and micro now she's perfect
She knows what she's doing and she's had plenty of experience teaching.Just do the practice questions and read the chapters. Otherwise she does snap very easily if you talk in her class. Her tests are straightforward if you pay attention. If you don't put any effort in don't expect any sorta high grade. Handouts and notes from lecture were okay.
She knows the material well. She came off rude and snippy in class. She gave practice problems to study that did help but tests were still pretty difficult.
Not the easiest teacher to take. But that isn't a problem because she makes you actually learn the material and apply it in class. She might come off as a bit curt in class but stick around and you'll notice that she has a genuine sense of humor. She actually makes the subject interesting by constantly using real world references and examples.
Micro isn't the easiest thing to understand, but she does a really good job at making sure the students understand everything along the way. She's definitely one of the better teachers I've had for economic classes. I recommend her definitely. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you go to class she really explains everything well.
She certainly wasn't the hardest professor I could have had for micro. The notes from class are very basic, her questions will never be that easy, but if you study the practice questions you'll be okay.
Her class is really hard. concpets were hard too. she was all over the place when she lectured. Tests were hard.
I'm good at math and science so the type of thinking required in this class made it easy and worth the study time, however I can see why some people would find her class hard. You really need to read the book, study her notes, and do all the practice questions. If you do you'll definitely get a high A on her exams. I'll take her again if i can.
Professor Laury is a great professor. A lot of her frustration steered from the students that would fail her open notes quizzes after she thoroughly went through the concepts and gave most of the answers in the handouts. Key to passing is READ, read the book and her (HANDOUTS). A bit of math involved. She does not like students talking though.
Laury set up the class in a way that makes it easier to do well if you just really study all of her online practice questions and problems. You cannot wait to study for her exams though and must stay actively learning on your own.
I took Macr with her and it was really easy. Her notes that she provides for you are great but the textbook is still required for passing. She doesn't take attendance and some claim that her tests are hard but if you study her notes, the book, and do the practice questions you can easily get an A.
this was the worst professor I've ever hard out of my 6 semesters here. she treats you like you're an idiot if you don' understand something and isn't very clear when teaching. AVOID if you can.
Do not take her. She is very rude and doesnt like to answer student' questions outright. She loves beating around the bush. Do not talk in her class, she whines alot. There are too many teachers that care more about their students. Dont waste your time in this class. I had to teach myself the material with outside resources.
She teaches as if she is against the class. Im an A- average student and I got a C on the first exam. She is rude & she spends more time yelling at the class than actually teaching. She believes that this is the only class that any of us have! AVOID THIS CLASS! Her teaching style involves asking vague questions and then yelling at you!
She is one of the worse teachers I have had. I almost never write a review on here but this class is the worst. She gets mad if no one answers her questions and the only reason I am doing well in her class is just because this is my third time taking an Econ class and the stuff is all the same. All she does is read the slides that she post.
Gives weekly online quizes that are open book and very easy. There are also graded homeworks on the online book which are a little harder. The tests are hard. They are not like the quizes, homeworks, or practice questions she posts. You have to do all of those, read, and study the notes to pass the tests. She can be condescending during lectures.
She complains a lot, is snobby and condescending, and stops class every time someone talks or a phone goes off. She wastes valuable class time on pointless tirades. The tests are tough and she doesn't give study guides so it's all up in the air, but she does curve tests up to a C if the class average is below one. I wouldn't recommend her
She asks you to come prepared to class with questions before lectures begin, however if something is unclear during lecture she makes a big deal of students not asking questions before class (even if you just then got confused) and asks you to put questions online on d2l. She says she will clarify but just says she will online. No help!!
She doesn't even really answer questions she just tells you to post it online. Nags students and focuses on cell phones going off rather than actually teaching. She does post a lot of practice material but it does not fully prepare you for the test.
Solid knowledge of course contents. She was good at explaining the material although some students may not find it to be as clear cut. Will curve grades if necessary and generally tests aren't hard provided you go over all the chapter review questions and general concept covered in class. Textbook isn't essential to pass but can help.
Dr. Laury's teaching method is centered around her lecture. She answers questions on D2L so everyone can see. She is organized; if you call out a mistake she'll give everyone credit. She is also very no nonsense and I believe that rubs people the wrong way. She provides practice questions that are the same form as the test questions. I recommend!
Her class is a professional setting. It is lecture heavy but she pretty much breaks everything down for you. If you don't go to class you will miss things. She gives quizzes that are take home and all the homework is due at the end of the semester. She creates amazing handouts that are pretty much study guides. TAKE HER! Do the work & youll be fine
easy class I got a B tho bc she wouldn't announce homework instead u had to find out yourself bc she's petty. she will stop the class at least 8 times to yell at us about moving in our chairs. We were a well behaved class but she threw tantrums all day and it felt like she would arrive to class to u load HER STRESS on us its unacceptable. RUN
Dr. Laury wrote pretty good notes, but her practice questions are essential if you want to do well on her tests. They're similar to the exams and sometimes, she puts the same question.
Lectures are often boring , you just have to look at the notes and save yourself a ton of time
I wouldn't recommend her class unless you are willing to set aside extra time to teach yourself the material. Her practice questions and quizzes don't reflect the tests, and she complains a lot.
Laury can confuse students during lectures. She encourages you to ask questions, but responds to students like a smart allick. Exams make up 80% of your grade, beware. First exam is pretty easy (got a 100) but the other 3 exams are tricky. SI director was fired halfway through the semester with no replacement.
Tests are 80% of your grade. There is hardly any assessments that make up the other 20% of your grade. Should have switched out of this class. Would not recommend.
So far, this class has been the worse class Ive taken at GSU. Her class is lecture heavy but she often rants about irrelevant topics. She encourages you to ask questions but she rarely answers them. She cancelled 3 weeks of class and gave an exam on the week she returned, without a curve. She also took over a month to grade exam 1 and 2.
Worst class I've also taken. Cancelled so much of semester, barely uploaded classwork online, didn't curve tests. Her lectures are extremely boring, and just restate what the book says with no addition insight.
This professor was EV-ERY-WHERE like literally! If it wasn't for my friend's who already took this course I would have easily failed. If you're looking to teach yourself then go for it but if you need instruction RUN FAR AWAY! She uses analogies that are not relevant to the work and she gets side tracked so easily it was like learning from a child
her entire syllabus was false, it says she will give 10 homework assignments and never does. She teaches her own way, and its's horrible
Nice teacher. She puts very detailed notes online to go over and study from. If you go to class or use the notes online you will do fine. the grade overall is composed of test and online open book quizzes. She puts practice problems online as hw, but they are just for practice.
-Halfway through the class you will regret coming. -Attendance not mandatory but if you do not come nothing will make sense -Lectures are extremely boring an monotone -Three exams, 1 final, and about 10 online weekly quizzes
While she isn't the worst, she ain't the best. Her lectures feel like they are a day long but she does takes time of her own to explain ANY question you might have about the class or topics, she posted videos online to further explain certain concepts and takes time to individually answer questions in forums. She tries her best to help you out.
Professor Laury is from my experience, rare. Extremely knowledgable in her field, energetic, and a great teacher. An actual teacher! She doesn't just lecture, she teaches you how to learn. Highly recommend for this course. - I am a graduate student that assisted in her class. I was not compensated for this opinion.
This professor is not HORRIBLE but she definitely does not have her life together. Every week, there is always some type of excuse as to why she cannot post a quiz or a powerpoint. She also takes over 30 minutes at the beginning of every class to talk before actually lecturing. Sometimes, it is helpful when she goes over stuff but it is usually not
Laury is a complete mess when it comes to teaching. Talking to other friends who are in Macro, they are way ahead of us, and the quizzes she has been putting up do not relate to much of the work done in class. Along with quizzes and study guides. She posts them when she wants or is convenient for herself. Be ready for the chaos.
This lady is all over the place! She tends to go on long rants randomly and throws everyone off. The class was drawn out excessively. Be prepared to learn new material the day before the final. The class is only a hour and 15 minutes but it feels like she talks for 15 years. AVOID HER IF POSSIBLE!!!!!
She wastes lecture time by 1) being late, 2) 'going over' previous lectures, 3) outlining current lecture material, and 4) covering unrelated topics. Not to mention, she's hard to follow during her lectures as well which makes grasping material a lot harder.
Took over an hour to start class because she would give us background information on the topic she was teaching instead of just teaching it. There are two exams and a cumulative final exam, no curves/ bonuses unless she makes a mistake on the test. Lessons are understandable and practice problems are easy but test questions look almost foreign.
I got an A- in the class, and all I did was study the study guides she posted, the tests are very similar to it. I never went to the lectures as it was very easy to just read the powerpoints, online quizzes weekly. 3 tests worth 90% and dont buy the textbook you wont use it. Honestly, shes not as bad as everyone says, couldve got an A if not lazy
She genuinely cares for her students and wants them to do well! She strongly encourages questions and is eager to answer them. She is very fair and if she forgets something, she'll own up to it and give everyone a 100 on the assignment. She relates material to the real world!
If you show up to class and take notes, it's easy. She likes to drag on and you'll have to catch the important parts yourself. Tests are all multiple choice and if you study, it's not hard. Only problem is that her study guides were a lot easier than the actual test.
She is a great lady; she made it simple. There are about ten quizzes, and all the answers are in the lecture notes; you just have to find them, a couple of simple discussion posts, and a final. The only bad thing about her class was being required to come to class, but it was good for me because it kept me on track, which actually helped me learn.
Professor Laury is my prof for macroeconomics, and she has been a great teacher. She explains economics well and she's willing to explain material in different ways if it doesn't make sense. The work load is light and is just enough to understand the topic, practice it, then demonstrate what you know. She also gives extra credit assignments.
She makes the class pretty easy in the online format. Assignments are easy to follow and she drops a few low grades. Most assignments are open notes. I had a hard time getting in contact with her throughout the semester though.
I like the way Professor Laury teaches. I think the assignments are commesurate with what is expected of each student. There are several quizzes and one can make up a test if he or she has a low grade in one of them. She also works in the Experimental Center and is in charge of Graduate Research Asistants.
She was very nice and communicative.
Dr. Laury exhibits high levels of knowledge in infusing technology in the classroom, her explanations are always easy to understand, and believes that every student should succeed. She has a down-to-earth personality and is very patient with her students, making sure that every question is answered.
She was ok…When I told her about having an outside work life and asked for extra credit she said no. My issue with that is she provided extra credit to other students.
Professor Laury is a good professor however her lectures just get long and are difficult to sit through. Good thing is attendance isn't mandatory. Most assignment are on Connect and take a long time but are relatively easy. Tests aren't difficult if you do all the work and study properly beforehand.
