This is quite literally the nicest professor you will ever meet. She'll slow down the curriculum if the class needs more time on a particular subject. She truly cares if you understand the material.

wonderful teacher.. she was energetic, even at 8 AM. She truly cares about her students and recognizes skill when she sees it. Very fair grader, no tests, all essays, you turn in a portfolio at the end of the semester. She was great!

She is fun and just so nice. The best thing about her is that she makes you think for yourself and helps you look differently at a lot of stuff you probably take for granted. Really great comments on drafts too to help you improve your work. Not even half way thru the semester and I feel like a better writer already.

Amazing teacher. She always has a great attitude and is willing to work with the class instead of the usual dictatorship. She is ALWAYS willing to help, responds to emails promptly. She forces you to look at the world from a different point of view and I can already tell my writings improved through half the semester. Highly recommend.

She's beautiful to look at. No, but really she gives great lectures that you can actually learn from. Grade is based on a couple major essays (3-5 pages) that make you develop your own original thesis. Not too hard. Great class.

She is a great teacher and she wants everyone to succeed in the course. She is always available for help and responds to emails within a day. She went to UM for undergrad and grad so she understands the students. Definitely reccomend taking her class.

Ms. Leary is AWESOME!! She's still in her 20s and she went to UM so she relates to the students very well. She'll help you organize your thoughts with lots of comments and you can email her anytime. Her assignments aren't bad, she brings out the originality in all of us and I just find her HILARIOUS. TAKE HER FOR ENG 105!!!

Definitely take Ms. Leary!! She's an amazing teacher, really takes the time to get to know you and make sure you understand the assignment perfectly. Only 3 papers for the whole semester, 5 pgs each. She's very helpful and encourages you to become a better writer. Take her class!

She is SO funny and really smart...she makes Victorian stuff relatable to you no matter what you like in life...she is very open minded with what you want to write about in your paper but she knows what she wants and demands a lot out of you..you will think totally different than you ever have before...she is GREAT

Simple. BEST english teacher at UM. If you have the opportunity to take her, i would advise you to do so. Fight to get in her class if that's what it takes, cuz in the end, it's worth it.

Best teacher I've ever had, no joke. You learn just by listening to her talk. Basically there's class discussion every day and you focus on different examples from the class and try to analyze a topic from many new angles. You'll need to think, but you'll want and learn to. A LOT of individual attention and she's pretty freakin hilarious.

Simply amazing! Best professor I've had on campus. Textbook was not required, and there's only 3 papers. Although the paper requirements might seem a bit intimidating and a lot of work, she is always helpful and more than willing to talk to help you out. Take her class and if you don't end up dropping, you will definitely have a great time.

Unconventional assignments but topics are open and she will help you in any way she can. Take her and you won't regret it, She's the real deal.

Excellent teacher. She forces you to think about topics in a way you normally wouldn't. Her essays are difficult to write, but she's a pretty generous grader and she really puts forth an effort to help her students. Also, she's hilarious. One warning, though, do NOT take this class if you're shy. Class discussion is 30% of your grade.

No teacher can inspire with passion and originality like Ms. Leary. She is hands down the best teacher at UM and THE teacher you always dreamed of having but never thought existed. The thought she wants is tough and the papers are pretty hard but they will make you better in life all around. She is unique, life altering and a must have!

If you live in fear of your GPA taking a hit or are afraid to talk in class, then I suggest you take someone else who will in no way make the same impact however. Not going to lie, the class is tough but my god is it worth it. If you really want to be someone in life, take Susan's class. Words cannot express the respect I have for this woman.

She's great but not easy. Definitely the best "teacher" I've ever had (like everyone says) but she'll make you work for it. She has a ton of energy so her demanding a lot out of you never stops. Papers focus on pop culture and looking at real life intelligently. I'd take her definitely if you have the time.

I took ENG 106 with her during summer 2013. I enjoyed her class overall. Attendance is mandatory. She didn't make us buy a text book, just write 3 essays about movies and lost. Her class has truly has improved my writing skills. She does have a crazy rule about being on time for class the day a paper is due, if you are even 1 min late you get a 0.

This is the most amazing, passionate, funniest, and caring professor you will ever meet. Highly recommend.

The absolute BEST professor at UM! Took her for both ENG 105 and 106 because I just couldn't get enough of her! Her enthusiasm for teaching makes the class soo enjoyable. It also helps that she is hilarious and made me laugh all class. Her essays are difficult but they definitely help your writing skills and get you to think in different ways.

Quite possibly the best professor at UM, as well as one of the most intelligent and spirited people you will ever meet. Not an easy course, she will make you work but its well worth it.

My favorite teacher ever. Really passionate and animated during class, and in the absolute best way possible. Incredibly funny . This class will honestly be the highlight of your day. Most of the grade is participation, so definitely speak up during class. She makes you work for the A, but you become a far better writer. Tremendous teacherperson.

Susan is hilarious and has the best attitude among any teacher I have come across and she keeps this attitude every single class. I would highly recommend you take her if you love class participation because that becomes 40% of your grade. So its no joke. It is not at all an easy A and she is a hard grader for the papers as well.

You will definitely have to write a couple drafts before you turn in a final copy. She knows what she wants and she's not afraid to tell you your paper sucks. Super funny & always makes herself available to help outside of class. Love, love, love her.

I liked Susan as a personfriend, but I didn't like her teaching style. Class is almost ALL participationdiscussion based and the ONLY thing discussed in class is other students' papers. She is a very hard grader, but will always meet with you to help. Get on her good side, she likes to joke. I wouldn't take this class again but I don't regret it.

Class is always dynamic. I like the other kids in class just as much as I like her and I think this is because of the environment she creates. She is very helpful at clarifying ideas you didn't even know you had and it has made me like thinking in general now. Susan is also a very supportive person in general. Highly recommend.

Amazing person and professor! She gave a whole new definition to "English class" and because of her I have improved my analytical skills in ways I never thought possible. Best teacher I've had ever. Not an English major but always enjoyed this class. Makes you think and contribute rather than the rinse-repeat style of many other English papers. You have to participate and do the work, but it's one of the classes that I always looked forward to going to.

She's an incredible person. Super friendly and super open to helping you on any questions you have, and helping you go through though processes. She's tough, and she expects a lot, but it really is only to get you to reach your potential. Not an easy A, but I would definitely take one of her classes every single semester.

Mrs. Leary is the best teacher I've had so far at the U. She cares about you and looks as you are a peer rather than a student. She works with your papers and gives you the opportunity for a re-write. There are only 4 grades in this class, 3 essays (with plenty of time) and a participation grade (just talk in class). Great class and professor!

I would retake her in a heartbeat! Clear grading criteria given and explains the breakdown of what you need to pass the class. No textbook needed, funny as hell, and encourages class discussions everyday. Grade is based off three papers, attendance, and a participation grade. She allows one optional rewrite due at the same time as paper 3.

I love Mrs. Leary ! First year in college and she is an amazing professor and she continues to inspire all of us. She loves her freshman students so she always has time to help you with your paper. She does grade tough but she is specific in what she wants but she tries to help everyone as best as she can to get the best possible grade.

Susan is the best professor I've had at UM. I have taken three of her classes - participation and attendance does matter, but in terms of homework, there are simply 3 papers. I highly recommend this class for anyone who wants to advance writing and analytic skills and engage in unique discussion. (usually teaches this class along with ENG 232)

Such an interesting class! Structured around 3 papers, most of class is spent in discussion so participation is important. Susan is very personable, funny, and engaging, and I always look forward to coming to class each week. I recommend that everyone take this course b/c you will most definitely take something away from the experience.

You have to write 3 papers, they are clearly organized and the topic is of your choosing within her guidelines. She is the best English teacher I have ever had and I highly recommend her. She also gives you 4 absences a semester, so if you just don't want to go to class, she will be okay with it.

Susan Leary is an absolute iconic person and teacher. Eng 105 is three short essays which are quite manageable. Warning, if you are shy she is not the right teacher for you. She responds well to participation. My favorite teacher I've taken at this university! Take her!

Favorite teacher during my first semester in Freshman year. As long as you attempt to show you care and give feedback once a class/once every two classes, you got an 100% for participating. Shes a genuine teacher who wants to see her students succeed, so just show you wanna succeed too. You get the whole semester to complete 3 essays.

Susan is a great professor who really cares about bonding with every student. The class was only three essays which was manageable and she gave us a lot of time and freedom. Participating in class is really important and will help you to succeed. It was hard to do this class online but Susan puts in a lot of effort to engage every student.

Suz is literally the best. Like, literally the best. And I'm not one of those "super students" who always thrive no matter the teacher. English is a really hard subject for me. But Suz made it my favorite class. She is also a psych teacher, and it definitely shows. She is the most caring, energetic, and kind person I have ever met. CHERISH HER!

Professor Leary is honestly one of the best professors, or even teachers, that I have ever had. She is loud, enjoyable, funny, understanding and more than a teacher. Professor Leary is a friend and she truly cares about all her students doing well. Her class is very simple and clear cut; she is an easy grader. If you get the chance TAKE HER.

I have had a whole in my heart my whole life until I met good ole Sus. Genuinely the best professor I've ever had. Her teaching style is an art, she somehow makes class entertaining and enjoyable, while teaching all the material in depth. class is very discussion orientated- and I love it. TAKE HER CLASS!!!!

Overall, Leary is a great teacher. Take for an easy A. You will have to work, but the only homework is three essays that she allows revisions on all semester long. Very kind and an amazing teacher. She helps you learn about yourself and personally reflect on deep topics. Would recommend to everyone.

She truly lives up to her hype. Only 3 papers on great topics, very little substance to the class; all we do is peer review. No matter how poor of a writer you think you are, Suz will find something to love about your paper. She's so good if you can't get her in the fall, wait until the spring to take her. It's so worth it.

Mrs. Leary is the best professor at UM. The work of the class is 3 papers total, which we spend most days discussing as a group. The class is EXTREMELY discussion heavy but Mrs. Leary makes you want to speak and be involved in the class. She is unbelievable at giving feedback and you should take any class she teaches if you want to truly learn!

TAKEN SUSAN LEARY PLEASE. Honestly you will not regret it. Her class is extremely therapeutic. I love her. On top of that, we just have 3 papers (that we can improve multiple times) and a few journals. Easy A and free therapy.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO TAKE SUS!!! She's hands down the best professor in the WRS department. She's extremely funny and genuinely wants to know every one of her students. Discussion is a major component of this class but as someone who isn't really into english Sus makes the space super welcoming and ever since I contribute at least every other class.
