very nice lady, will take extra time for anyone that asks, does have high expectations and gives extremely hard tests but gives away lots of extra points for other things

She's a good teacher, you just have to ask questions both in class, and in her office she's very nice...you'll need to study harder than usual but I learned a lot and enjoyed the class.

If you love biology, take her. Not really easy, have to work very very hard. She doesn't lecture much; a lot of activites: presentation, field trip, essays. Above all, study and study bio every single day.

SUPER hard tests- use the study guide- do ALL of the extra credit! she is willing to give you help- just ask- i learned a lot from her- but needs to be clearer as to whats on the tests- stuff she didnt even talk about popped up!

Great teacher, gives you ways to remember things, keeps you interested through humor, I liked her, tests are really really hard tho, you have to do the extra credit to do ok. This class was a whole lotta work tho. be prepared.

Labs are lengthy and tests are very hard but she gives plenty of extra credit. She is a funny woman and keeps you entertained. It overall isn't too bad of a class.

Well,Right now I have her class. I'll tell you this,YES YOU CAN GET AN A! If you're a slacker don't take this class you'll fail.But if you actually want to learn, go ahead.She's so understanding about things and will help you.People who say say she's a bad teacher are the slackers.

She is so crazy, but fun and interesting. The class is hard no matter who you have. You have to study alot but she gives you a chance to earn so much extra credit. Just as long as you study for your tests, do your work, and take advantage of the extra credit, you will do just fine.

Prof. Matthews teaches concepts: not "detailed" stuff. She gives real world examples to help you relate the topic and understand it. She is hilarious! Her own words: I give you the material, it's up to you to do what you want with it. I have gotten mostly A's in her tests. Study your a** off though.

Here it is cut and dry: Good-She gives TONS of extra credit, she is the most Approachable, open minded, funniest person u will ever have as a teacher. Bad-Her tests are HARD, teaching style is confusing, very forgetful. Bottom line-study your A** off: I've goten both A's in Bio I, and II from her!

She's great! It's tough, & you have to study, but I think she does it that way on purpose to help you out. I'm actually a better student in all of my classes now, becuase of the study habits I was forced to aquire to pass her tests! She's also very funny, & very helpful, if you ask.

This is no cupcake class. If you dont like studying, this is not the teacher for you. Do All extra credit. It somehow brought my grade up to a B and I was surprised by the grade cause i dont think I tried my hardest. tests are murder and she doesnt grade labs which I think could help people keep there grade up. Prof. Matthews is a wonderful instructor and person overall. After attenting her Summer A I have learned to be a better student. Wonderful experience, but I think I have carpel tunnel now from all annotations. Now I know I can Peresevere in anything because ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING! THANKS PROF. MATTHEWS!!:)

Very nice teacher, she is good because she can take the edge off a stressfull class like bio. At the same time you will learn alot taking her class, she explains basic concepts very vividly. The extra credit also helps because you get a chance to improve. My advice is take her, she is a good teacher, that wants you to be successful.

First things first: If you cannot spell correctly, then you should not have anything bad to say about a teacher. Seriously. Go back to Comp. I and practice your grammar and spelling. And I'm not talking about little typos! There and THEIR mean two different things. Okay, now I want to say that this teacher is so willing to work with you!

Bio isn't supposed to be easy. If you're a slacker, don't take it. She's very helpful and understanding to each student's needs. She gives multiple choice and essay tests, so students have an equal opportunity to show what they know. She gets off topic so you're not bored to tears from straight bio for the entire class. First off, this is a college level class and a good teacher like Prof. Matthews will allow u to learn like a college student. Don't expect to sleep through this class, no matter how smart u "think" u are. This class takes good study habits and your attention to everything she says, which she does give ALOT of tips. And oh yes, ALOT of ex. cred.

i love her. she is outstanding!trust me...if i can advise you to take anyone for Biology take HER or Clark. I took her 2 years ago & i can still tell you everything about photosynthesis & cellular respiration. faaaaaaabulous. take her. anyone that says mean things about her (i'll beat them up)

This class is tough no matter who u take it with. Proff. Matthews is a great "COLLEGE" level professor. Be prepared to work hard and study. She gives P.P points that will enable you to get a good grade. She is a great teacher and always willing to help.

Tests are almost impossable,but she gives you LOTS of extra credit. I failed 3 tests and ended up w. a B. The project isnt bad as long as you put some sort of effort into it.

She's very sweet. I got an A. Doesn't "curve", but she gives extra points. Her tests can be kinda tricky, but they're easier than Dr. Linbeck's. USE THE STUDY GUIDE because she told me that atleast on ONE test (or quiz) during each semester she will take her questions DIRECTLY from the study guide. Even if she doesn't, it's sure to help.

Awesome teacher! Very fun and fair in grading because of extra credit and "quizbowls". Everything on tests comes from the book, so if you read the chapter and grasp its concepts, you'll do fine in her class.

I enjoyed her class.It is very relax atmosfere during the class, a lot of fun.Although, you really have to study for her tests.Keep in mind that she uses the study guide a lot.In other words, do all the questions in there.And study, study, study.It is possible to get an A in her class if you are a hard worker.I will recomend her to anyone.

WAKE UP people it's a science course BIOLOGY requires study time outside of the class room (study guide highly rec). If you are the type of student that expects to be GIVEN a grade then NO don't take Matthews, yet if you are the type of student that expects to receive the grade EARNED then YES take her. Wonderful and easy to approach

She is a very sweet teacher who cares about her students. Her lectures are never boring.

This class is definately a college class. If you do your work and study, you'll get the grade you earned. The tests are difficult, but Prof. Matthews gives you a way to come back from a bad grade if you had an off day. Her style of teaching takes some getting used to, but it's a much more relaxing and interesting atmosphere than other classes.

Mrs. Matthews is a good teacher over all, she doesn't go into detail on chapters so you have to read the chapters. She gives extra points on Test for doing chapters essays and HW notes; so passing her test are easy. Bio 2 has so much information so read the assign chapters every night.

She is a sweet person, but you have to be very independent in her class..go home study and you will be fine....she onle goes over a few points in a class and her tests are somewhat challenging but she gives you a chance to earn extra points which helps a ton. Class could be boring sometimes buts its an ok course overall

I took Ms. Mathews a few years ago for both bio classes. She gave out a ton of ex credit as the tests were very hard. She is a wonderful lady and if you bother to get to know her she is a great instructor. Go Sue!!

She's actually pretty awesome. Gives out like 30 percentage points extra credit on tests...YOU HAVE TO STUDY on your own. Don't expect skip class and get an A.

This class is difficult to begin with and she does teach it as if all students are on the preprofessional bio track. I really like her because she knows what she's talking about and she is also really good with extra credit. The tests are hard and so is the lab practical, but she makes up for it through e.c. Sweet lady:expect a lot of study hours.

Biology is a very hard subject but Mrs. Matthews makes it interesting. The tests and lab practicals were extremely hard, so expect a lot of studying. She gives a lot of extra credit, though. She is one of the few good biology professors VCC has to offer.

Is a hard class. In order to pass you MUST read the chp because she wont teach them to you. The lab pratical is HUGE and hard, but if you study hard you will do fine. You must love to study in order to take her. She gives lots of extra credit that helps you bring your test grade up. Really funny teacher, i recommend to take her if your major is bio

I still don't know how I feel about her. She is funny and nice, but her tests are pretty hard. Lots and lots of extra credit. The lab tests are HARD, and some of the material on the lab midterm was on things we hadn't even covered yet. She's the only teacher who teachers Bio H, so I can't compare her to other teachers. It's hit or miss with her.

Prof. Matthews was a very nice lady. Her tests were very tricky and you must really understand the subject to do well on them. Lab Practicals were the worst. I put in a modest effort at studying and applying myself in her course and I received a high B, had I applied myself an A would have been possible. Just apply yourself and you should be fine

I love Prof. Mathews!! She enforces students to read the text book, which is not a lot to ask. I would take her if you are a serious student. If you hate reading you will not do well. In the end she is very fair and you'll do well according to the amount of effort you put in! She is so passionate about biology, HILARIOUS, and dangerously clever!

BEST BIO I TEACHER!! She is super nice and she explains stuff. Test are really not that hard if you study. All you need is the STUDYGUIDE (seriously buy it) and her notes that she gives. Also, you can get up to 17 extra credit points for essays and 3 points per chpt notes= 26 extra credit points per test!! Who can fail this class, really?? TAKE HER

I loved this class. In Mrs. Matthews class you make your own fate. She doesn't spoon-feed you the material. She tells you what you need to do, but you actually have to do the work. Three tips: Show up on time (or early) she likes that. Take good notes (or you won't get far). Have fun (without being disruptive). Good Luck

GREAT TEACHER!! There is alot of reading in this class and if you do not keep up, you will fall behind. Prof excepts you to study on your own time and discuss what you've learned in class. She is there to help you with questions and further understanding. Test are hard, but she gives alot of extra credit. Very intelligent, will learn alot from her!

Oh my Glob! I had the most enjoyable experience in her intro to Bio class. She's somewhere between easy and hard. You just need to put your effort where it is needed, and you'll get the grade you deserve. She even gives out additional points depending on how well you can comprehend the material. She even has some stories that are very funny.

Had a great time in Mrs. Matthew's class. She really tells it how it is and gets to the point. You have to get the study guide- most of the exam questions are just like the questions in the study guide. She also gives TONS of extra credit if you outline the chapters for each test. As long as you are willing to work, you will get a good grade.

The class was insanely difficult, but that's to be expected with biology. Reading the book is a must if you want to pass; she doesn't teach when she lectures, rather she discusses the topics with the class. The reading is TIME CONSUMING, so if you are juggling 2 or 3 other classes with a job/family it can be difficult, to say the least. Love her!

Difficult class. She is a very nice professor but you have to do a lot of work and stay on top of it. You will learn a lot from her!

If you learn by taking notes and making a summary, this class is for you. Her tests needs critical thinking and not just memorization, you need to really analyze concepts. Her labs are easy breezy (no lab report) but when you get to lab practicals, you sure need to remember all the things in lab because she tests you. You'll need to work harder.

I took Professor Matthew's bio 2 class YEARS ago and she is still my favorite professor to this day. I think about her and the things she taught me often. Take her!! She is such an inspiring professor.

She gives extra credit for taking notes before the lecture. I looked up the material on quizlet, memorized it, then applied it to the exams and finished both classes with low As.
