There is not enough space to list all of the wonderful things about professor McCabe. Anyone who takes her is extremely lucky. She lectures from her head, not from notes and she doesn't give out incorrect information. She is a phenominal professor!!
She is one of the smartest professors, she truly cares about her student's sucess. she is willing give extra time to help her students. You need to know your stuff, she expects you to know it. she is truly inspiring. I feel like i learned so much from her. She is OUTSTANDING!
She is outstanding in lecture, better bring your tape recorder you may miss a few words, dont bother taking notes, just absorb it all. She really knows her stuff, and so will you after taking her class, she is not easy, but she is very helpfull, very caring, and will give you as much help as she can.You have to take her class at least once, just grea
Yes she is helpful and makes you feel somewhat at ease, but....she speaks way too fast, has been teaching so long that she thinks this stuff is common knowledge and frankly gives up on students who score low on her tricky exams. All done with a pleasant smile of course
She is without a doubt the BEST lecturer of all the nursing faculty. Only Prof Fernandez comes close to Prof McCabe.
Hate her guts. Wish I never had to see her again. Miserable.
Prof.McCabe is an incredible teacher. Although she teaches like you are going to be a doctor when you graduate, I found taping her lectures helped. She is also willing to go the extra mile to help you. This is the type of nurse that I would want to care for my family!!! OUTSTANDING!!
Lectures are at a rapid fire pace. Her level of knowledge is outstanding. Tests are not easy, however always willing to go the extra mile to help students whether it be before class or to stay after class.
by far she is outstanding, you better know your stuff, cause she expects you to know it too, she is a fountain of knowledge. and she is teaching you what you need to know. Trust Me. when you are outthere you will thank her. thanks Mrs Mcabe love you, im glad i listened to ya.
As an LPN for many years, have seen all kinds of nurses. She is one of the best, would definetely want her @ my bedside! If I can remember half the info she has provided me with, I'll be a great R.N. To all those WHINEY students who don't like her and have numerous complaints about her. I have to say ONE word STUDY!!!! Not the night before!!!!!!
teaches above the class level, and too much info given at 1 time.
Very funny very low stress level. Not intimidating. Very helpfull. I wish I could have her for all my classes
LOVE HER!!!Cannot say enough. Wish I could have had her for clinical. If you are having trouble now, what do you think it will be like when you are responsible for lives?!RECORD HER!If you think she's too fast, just keep listening to her.You will get it and when you do you will wish every prof was like her.She truly embodies nursing. I will miss her.
HORRIBLE, but you have no choice but to take her She is smart as hell but that means nothing if you dont know how to teach She rambles in class giving way too much info and God knows there is already way too much to take in If there is any way to avoid her do it I also agree that she's rude and has her favorites any one else is ignored its sickenin
way too much information ....tooo many resources used she teaches u beyond what you need to know , shes rude she has A and B students failing her class and she thinks its the way were studying ...never once stops to think that maybe its the way she teaches
Prof.McCabe IS all that is written here, TOO MUCH info, thoughts, websites, but she will work with you and she cares. In smaller groups, you follow her thought process better. Even tho I only got a C+, it was a strong C+ and I felt that I rose to her standards and am a better student. She taught me how to study better.
McCabes class was more difficult than any others I ever took. If you think 100 pages in powerpoints is a lot it will be NOTHING to her she can write up 400 pages for one test. Her tests are fair and not necessarily fact based more What would you do? I'm gonna miss her she is the smartest lady on Long Island & I know a lot of doctors.
The women is very smart, although she wont give you any info when you ask her, "look it up" is the answer you'll receive. But again shes very smart and clear. The exams were crazy, especially the 3rd one. Powerpoints were extremely helpful, only you had to print them yourself, which meant buying alot of ink. You will have no life for 7 weeks STUDY!
Professor McCabe was a tough teacher but you learned! If you go over the power points and look up what you are unsure of in the textbook you will pass! I passed her class and the boards as well thanks to her techniques.
Let me put it this way, it is all on you, your not going to get anything out of her lectures or particularly her review classes. Her idea of review is going over assigned questions verbatim. Nope no help here, My advice either read the books/powerpoints (all 1000 pages no kidding)for at least two weeks before the test or enroll at the Grant campus,
shes smart but not at all helpful. a lot of info is thrown at you in lecture and more than half the info doesn't apply to test questions. you cant rely on mccabe or lecture to get you through, read read read. ive heard the grant campus is btter(helpful)
Pretty much lecture is like a tornado. She throws all this useless info at you during lecture and by the time you are done this info is all over the place and you have no idea how to put the pieces together. I have all ?A?s? on my transcript, in her class I got my first B. Many failed. You want to fail take her. GOOD LUCK.
all over the place in lecture. lecture and reviews are useless. you have to teach yourself by reading the text. i heard grant campus is much better.
She has single handedly turned me off to the profession of nursing. NR40 is no longer a class it is a "case study" program with no lecture. This class is completely self taught, and attendance, though mandatory, is utterly useless. The class average is failing, and rather than actually teaching us she has become angry and vindictive.
McCabe is a horrible lecturer. Had her for NR133 did alright but this semester she has completely changed everything. I feel like she spited us all because we want lecture the way we had it before and yet she continues to bark "look it up yourself" "case studies" "pc's". Lecture is very uhhelpful and makes everyone angry.
Her policy is to look things up, meanwhile you may find material that supports other viewpoints than her own. You are tested on hers. Good luck reading minds She claims to use an evidence based practice method of teaching, however it has failed her students, since the grade point average of the class is failing. Her lectures are utterly useless!
I love this teacher..... I did not get an A but I worked my butt off and always left her classroom feeling like I was taught.... She will not spoon feed you the info but in this profession we should not be spoon fed.. You need to look stuff up to allow it to stick in your head and learn from your mistakes.. Nursing is not easy....
Professor McCabe means business, you must be prepared for any lectures but especially hers. She comes in the classroom and she has already started lecturing before she takes her bag off her shoulder. She goes very fast! Some people would say she jumps all over the place in lecture but those are usually the people who have not prepared properly.
AWESOME! She is the best lecturer ever. She is not tough like others have said, the class itself is tough. I can't understand why some students complain about her teaching style because everytime I left her lecture, I felt smarter. She has a way of making it flow and come together. Evolve is NOT mandatory! I barely used it!
I don't know how much professor McCabe paid this last student to make a comment but mine is RUN AWAY!!! She's a good teacher but completely disorganized and I think she takes pleasure on failing students. The entire class is self study. I don't know why I even bother coming to class if I could've done this at home. AWFUL!!!
I loved loved loved prof. Mccabe she is a great teacher and a wonderful nurse. I know she always says to look things up instead of answering the question, but that is the biggest lesson she teaches you . I work in a hospital and it is sink or swim as a nurse you have to know your own material and how to look things up. I wish I could take her again!
she is a great teacher...she really knows her stuff and although confusing at times she provide a lot of extra materials on her web site that can help during the course.
Her best answer to you when you go to her for help and advice..... take meds!!! She encourages you to take meds for anxiety instead of maybe helping you....
WOW, Forget evolve, resources use the text you'll b fine! She is definately a smart lady who loves her job. She does start teaching b 4 taking pocket bk off, but u will learn more then you think! I did not find her helpful in xtra help, but lectures were helpful. tests are confusing as i dont no! Good luck! You wont regret it!
Very nice lady, knows her stuff. Very approachable if you need help. The only thing I don't like is that shes unorganized. A lot of the info you need u download on a flashdrive from nursing lab. Sometimes my computer doesn't like to open the files so i have to go to the school library to do my work which is very annoying.
Lectures would be much more helpful if the class wasn't so condensed. 8 weeks is not enough. Read the textbook before and after lecture, print out the algorithms, and cross reference to ATI. Class is extremely difficult. McCabe is very smart and a very good professor, it's not her fault she has 8 weeks to teach us the material.
Lectures are difficult for many to follow. I had no problem with that, but found that she "jumps around" a lot so I can see why they felt she was hard to follow! Exams are no joke! You will find you know the material but lack in test taking skills! 70% of our class failed 1st test!
Prof McCabe is teaches with a high standard...which we all expect as nursing students. However, it all seems so disorganized. I feel that learning about the illness may have been more helpful rather than jumping right into case studies. READ YOUR IGGY. Know it inside and out. Good luck ever arguing a test question, she is never wrong.
She is a genius and covers a huge amount of material in a short amount of time. To do well you will work hard, but it will be worth it. As a new nurse, I refer back to her lessons on a regular basis. Go through all of the resources she gives you before you get going in the class. Prepare before class - it is SUPER IMPORTANT to be successful.
Her teaching style is to "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks." This class definitely suffers from "information overload" and I don't think that it has to. She knows her stuff but the students would benefit, if she explained from the start how we should focus our studies, rather than give us a thousand resources, and have to guess.
Energetic, clear, concise. Not easy, but she gives you a ton of various ways to access the information. You might feel bombarded by it at first, but find what helps you and work with that.
I was nervous at first to have this professor, but she is brilliant. She is helpful, all you have to do is ask for help. She does practice questions with whoever wants to stay after.do it,its sooo helpful with test taking. No powerpoints, but she follows the text to a tee. Just highlite in text as she speaks. Read before class, makes her happy:)
If you just want a good grade without trying then don't take her. If you really want to learn the info then take her. She is really smart and she'll make you smart too if you go to class and pay attention. Love her!!
She was awesome, very helpful. My advice is read your book and attending class is a must
Prof is energetic-lecture never boring! Makes herself COMPLETELY available to Students for extra help-wants to make Superb Nurses! Gives alot of resources but you pick what works for you. You donot need to access them all!!
terrible 1000 resources and you have to know them all. did great in every other class but she assumes you have not only studied but memorized entire compendiums of nursing knowledge. speaks to you as if you have been in the field for 30 years but somehow also as if you are 12 yrs old. watch for her trying to get you to complete her sentences
Professor doesnt use powerpoints. She gives you a 1,000 resources on top of expecting you to study the textbook & ATI. It's easy to get lost in her lectures. She jumps all over the place & will even start sounding out the answer to a ques til someone can answer it. Medsurg is interesting, but unfort this prof will have you feeling overwhelmed
Medsurge II is a hard class - with that said, she is a brilliant professor who teaches and then reteaches the information. Pick and choose from all the reference sources and use the book as a reference.Record her lectures and listen to them as often as possible. If you want to be a great nurse, she will get you there.Oh, as a guy, I love the heels!
Well Professor McCabe will prepare you for NCLEX and to be a great nurse inthat you really know what your doing as a nurse. Medsurg is not a joke but she is always available if you need help. If ready for medsurge take McCabe you will pass your NCLEX the first time because you had a good foundation.
i loved Prof Mccabe had her for both NUR133 and NUR 240 and sims lab. She gives you test hints in lecture and is always willing to help. I worked hard and got an A.
Does not use power points, wants to have you look up information in different books and switches computer screens all during lecture, hard to follow
Difficult subject- she brings passion and life experience to the class. Has multiple sources of information- you have to decide which is best for you. She is demanding, but will make you a better nurse. She is very approachable and will go out of her way to help you.
She will work your butt off, but you will be a better nurse after she finishes with you. She is always available to you and will give you many ways to find the information. You find what works best for you. GREAT! Take her!
This class kept an insane pace as it was only 7 weeks. I felt as though we were cramming information just for the sake of learning it for our tests. This course should in no way be a 7 week course. Ridiculous amount of work which really needs to be taught at a slower pace so that we can actually absorb it!!!!
This is the worst professor I have ever taken, she has favorites and has no compassion for students who are struggling to learn the material but cannot comprehend the way she teaches. Sim lab is a complete waste she does not help you she makes you feel stupid for not knowing something meanwhile your in school to learn. unfair in more ways than one
It takes a special person to be a nurse, and an even more special person to become an educator. To be both is an accomplishment in itself. Unfortunately you have lost your way. wake up. Students are counting on you. Is this what you imagined it could be?
She is very smart, knows her stuff. She does not use power point. Just watch her videos and you will be fine. Her exams are easy and straight forward. She is very helpful, she answers her emails if you emails her with a question. You just have to put in the work and it will pay off. I will recommend her anytime. LOVE, LOVE,LOVE,her.
If you want to pass the boards, then you want this professor. She can answer any questions you have and if she doesn't know the answer she will find it. It isn't easy but if you need help she is always available and willing to help.
Great women exceptional in simulations however when it comes to the material for the exams you are on your own. Read the textbook and teach yourself everything! What she teaches in classes will rarely be on the exam.
Her class is hard no doubt. Record her lecture sit back listen then go home listen and take notes. If anything is unclear look up in text and use her resources for clarifying. That's how I got a b+.
very confusing, have to have the book but doesn't use it. Skips over subjects, wants you to look up everything, not clear with what is needed for next lecture. sends emails the day before class, expects printed copies of everything
One of the hardest classes in RN program here no doubt. She is tough, she does move fast, and there is no time during the 7 week class to go to office hours. She is exceptionally brilliant. Record her lectures, write your own notes. READ THE TEXT BOOK. 40 people failed her class, but i did just that and got a B and was very happy with that grade.
Best teacher I've ever had. Only complaint-her site is unorganized, too many links, very hard to figure out what the assignments are bw random emails & her site BUT would take again, she teaches w case studies which helps u apply to real situations. Her videos, tho long, r very informative. I got an A, n I watch videos, do practice?s & case studies
Brilliant professor. Expects a lot from you as a student but you are in college She puts a lot of work into her lectures Watch her videos and you dont have to read the textboo May feel lost in simulation lab or lecture sometimes but roll with the punches she knows what shes doing. Tests are extremely fair. I wish she would teach the ENTIRE program
Xanax is a Must Have! Lot of Work for 8 weeks!Stick with ATI, IGGY, Videos and Skate by Easily with B+. Don't forget the Million Other Resources with Confuse You. Remember and You Won't be a "Ghost of Med Surg. Past", One Year Later.
Overall I think she had the best interest's of her students at heart. However the material... although it is quite a bit of material. She gives a million links to videos and other resources to the topics which can be overwhelming. I only watched videos on topics didn't quite grasp from the reading. ATI will be your best bet plus the text!!!!
GPA KILLER! Just call it an Online class already. TOO much material (UNORGANIZED online). Too many sites to refer to, information CONTRADICTS itself at times. 1hr before class lectures for "extra help" for us who can make it, not very fair to those who cant and are MISSING A LOT of info. I have 4 semesters at SCCC with a 4.0, This class B
Let me start by saying Professor McCabe is exceptional! I have never had such a knowledgable, professional professor as her. You will LOVE her. It's just a lot of material so at times it may feel intense. But nursing is intense. she will give u the knowledge needed to be a good nurse. She's a MUST! Take her, trust me. Best at SCCC. #best#favorite
I'm taking her now for the second semester. She's just BRILLANT and will make you brilliant as well. Enjoy her! It goes fast and she IS the best. Ati and Novex and her videos are all u need to pass.
McCabe will def make you work for your grade, however, she is the most hilarious and intelligent professor I've ever had. She is one hundred per cent committed to nursing and teaching and makes it obvious. She provides a lot of resources and materials to provide further clarification on the course. She is more than willing to help you.
Professor McCabe is either loved or hated by nursing students. I thought she was very knowledgeable. Her lectures are interesting. It really helps to look things up yourself you retain information . This field is not easy so the information shouldn't be handed to us. She really wants us all to succeed. Don't get lost in the links, pick and choose.
She is tough. BUT WELL WORTH IT. Took her for 133 and 240. Had her for SIM and lecture in both. Hated her at first but without her I would have not passed PEDS. She does not do powerpoints. Just scenarios, kahoots and her mouth. Bring a recorder. Learn short hand and study. I had about 10 break downs but all worth it. I won't forget what she taught
Had her for 133 lecture and was very thankful I did not have her for any other section. Her way of teaching is anxiety provoking, disorganized, and demeaning. The videos where she lectures on topics are gold. My rating would be different if she lectured in the clear, polite way she does in her videos.
Prof. mCCABE IS BY FAAR THE BEST NURING INSTRUCTOR IVE EVER HAD. SHE KIND SWEET CARING AND UNDERSTANDING. SHE IS AN EXCELLENT TEACHER AND WILL HELP YOU DO BETTER WHEN YOUR DOWN, JUST LET HER KNOW IF YOU NED HELP AND SHE WILL EXTEND HER SERVICES FOR YOU. EXTREMELY WISE AND PROFESSIONAL. I WOUL TAKE HER AGAIN IN A HEART BEAT. I KINDA WANNA BE HER!
The class was doable but without slides made this entire class completely unorganized. Felt like more of an online class with her constantly posting assignments and study information on blackboard. I heard she was great for SIM lab, and she was always willing to help during office hours. It's stressful with her but its b/c she knows so much.
Very confusing method of teaching, ATI?, her made up care plans?, quizzes? you don't know where her test are coming from, almost all select all that apply questions. Teaches way above your head for novice nurses. Unless you are an experienced nurse already you wont understand most of what she talking about
Shes the reason why soooo many students in Suffolk pass the NCLEX on first attempt. Very hard working lady. Go by her lectures and video lectures and ati. Use the links to elaborate on her lectures. Templates are very important. Will miss her
I had Professor McCabe twice and it has not been easy. So here is my advice. Do not get caught up in disliking her or her teaching style, its wasted energy. Show her how much you care and constantly ask questions, she will help you. Be open to changing the way you study, its not just memorization anymore. Work hard and don't give up.
Professor Mccabe is by far the worst professor I ever had! She made NUR240 impossible to pass. She believes in teaching at a higher level so your granted to pass NCLEX. All that program care about is NCLEX. Ammerman is the worst nursing program. We as students was verbally and mentally abused and nobody did anything to help us.
In fundamentals I asked Prof McCabe how to improve my exam grades and she told me to drop out. Im glad I didnt listen to her demeaning advice bc I graduated, zero thanks to her. She made me feel so insecure throughout this whole program because she had zero faith in me. Im glad I didnt have her for NUR240.
Very knowledgable and its obvious she cares. But shes simply too disorganized. She doesnt present material in lecture, this class is pretty much self-study. Shes forgetful. She gives busy work. She assumes you know something that is happening presently in class when she hasn't explained what is happening. Don't take her if you dont have to
Professor McCabe is extremely intelligent and teaches above the novice nurse level. Its a lot of material with no clear cut lecture schedule. You cant prepare ahead because she is so disorganized. Uploads too many resources w/o explaining which makes it more overwhelming. Condescending at times but loves to teach wish she was more approachable.
She would likely be a great nurse to learn from as a colleague. She's extremely intelligent, but is a horrible educator. With no lectures or power points, she seems too busy to teach, is constantly unprepared or disorganized, forgets to tell us important pieces of information and is minimally accepting to those who don't learn how she teaches.
#1 doesnt teach at all, lectures are a waste of time youd be better off using the time at home to study #2 expects you to be available 24/7, most of us work #3 maybe last semester isnt the best time to decide to teach us a new way to study because of course her way is the only and best way #4 unorganized, rude. Its not everyone else its her
This is by far the worst semester Ive had thus far. Professor McCabe does not reach, she talks at you for 2 hours during lecture. You do not learn anything. She expects you to know everything shes talking about, is not responsive to questions. Very condescending. Not approachable. Creates more work than necessary. No PowerPoints, all self study.
Hmmm lets see⦠give students a strong knowledge base of correct info to work off of throughout their career vs tell them to google it and do nothing but waste their time decisions decisions
Her lectures were basically tangents that had nothing to do with what we were tested on. She won't answer emails - you have to stay after lecture or make an appointment with her secretary. Focus on the assigned readings and you should be okay but don't expect real support from her. We basically had to teach ourselves all the material.
Easily the worst professor I've ever had. Lecture makes no sense and barely relates back to the material. She's extremely condescending, inconsiderate, unorganized, and unprofessional. She is so difficult to get in contact with and will not answer emails. The only reason I got an A is because I have good study habits and taught myself the material
She doesn't teach. She rambles vaguely about the topics we should be learning during lecture. Be prepared to teach yourself. She's very smart but not a good educator at all due to her odd style and "wheels of terror". She took over every sim and did everything for us but the prebrief was actually educational. Too bad it didn't relate to the tests.
If you could put all of the worst traits of a teacher into one person, Dr. McCabe would be runner up! She missed our first lecture of the semester and did not even apologize to the students. She rambles a lot about nothing and is disorganized during lectures. She's currently AN HOUR late to an exam that SHE rescheduled for no good reason! UNFAIR
Plain and simple she is a bully if she likes you you pass if not prepare yourself for her wrath I would avoid her at all costs.
