She is a great professor, shes really hyper-active. Her lectures are kind of interesting, but don't really have much of a point. She makes you get like 5 books but not all are really necessary. Her Tests are really easy and actually somewhat fun to take. I would recommend her to anyone wanting an elective ECO Class!!!
She's a cool teacher and everything but, the material is hard. If you don't understand economics at all. I'm pretty sure she an easy teacher but, like i said you got to know eco in this class.

I love, love, love her. She is cool. She brings snacks for her students. She is super intelligent. Her tests are easy and fun. You learn to research information, which is helpful to have as experience. I would take her again, definitely!
Fun teacher in class....but have a tendency to not be very clear at times.....though exams are pretty easy, dont pick the take home test, it will take 3 days to complete
She is a very fun teacher and knows how to lecture. Sometimes she is a little absent minded and tends to be a bit unclear at time but always very helpful and enthusiastic. Really cares about your grade. Take her!
Good teacher! Very enthusiastic about teaching but there's one down side. Her TA TODD. He's horrible at grading and sometimes Dr. McElroy lets him teach the class (which is pointless). ALWAYS check your quizes and test back to make sure they are graded correctly!
She very enthusiastic when she teaches, but most of the time she rants on random things that aren't on the test. She lets her TA teach like once a week which is pointless! The things she teaches and tells you to study is not on the TEST! DO NOT TAKE HER! Just take ECON in summer school!
Hard teacher. Gives extra credit but doesn't use it. Lectures are straight from power point and test is not from lectures. Useless class take over the summer.
Makes you to do a lot of extra credit assignments, but never uses those points. Makes a lot of promises, but randomly keeps them. Sometimes, she does not know what she is teaching about, which made us very confused. She doesn't respond to e-mails, so keep in touch with the TA instead of her. Exams are hard! I don't advise to take her.
Dr. McElroy is a bit scatter-brained during lecture. Unfocused. Unprepared. Withholds grades-still don't know our grade on major paper! Never know where you stand going into the final.
She is INCREDIBLY enthusiastic. However, she does not give extra credit (even though she will say she will) and she will not change grades or give a curve (even if the mistake is her own). Good if you can catch on to material perfectly before the tests and make good grades from the start, bad if you make one little mistake.
Very enthusiastic teacher and very easy class. Economics is easy to me, but I only had to memorize a couple formulas and made A's across the board. She is very understanding and offers credit in your favor if she makes mistakes.
WORST CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN AT UTD. We have no idea what our grades are because she messed up both quiz 3 & 4 and graded the midterm wrong too. Now we are all studying for the "cumulative final" which is over 18 papers, and have no idea what to expect. Said she would post solutions to quizzes but didnt. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Nicest woman. She is too easy and too carefree. There is no order in her class, and as such, learning suffers. She allows students to disrupt her and others. She will pretty much throw out questions on quizzes and tests if enough people complain. I feel she has a lot to offer but isn't firm enough to run the class effectively.
Horrible professor. So scatterbrained she forgot to make enough copies for the test on multiple occasions. Her TA was no better. He did not grade things properly and when rude when asked to fix it. If the tests were his responsibility and he arrived late, the test would be pushed back to the next class making it a tremendous waste of time to study.
Extremely disappointed in this class. There is no order, you can throw out the syllabus. Expect her to be late every class and she will not be prepared. Her tests are so hard to study for, many times the questions are minor details in the reading. She really is a very nice woman though, but I would not take her again if at all possible
Is a very enthusiastic and easy professor. She gives extra credit on her tests+quizzes. Tests+quizzes are easy, if you just read the book. Attendance isn't mandatory but it helps to see her do the practice problems. The class is boring if you don't participate. I put very little effort into this class, studied on the day of test and still got an a
Despite being hard to follow at times, she is a knowledgeable professor who encourages discussion and debate in her class. If you learn how to study for her tests, they are generally easy. The trick is in deciphering her somewhat scrambled lecture into some solid study material.
Interesting class... instructor grades exams and quizzes fairly...make sure you attend class or you will not do well on quizzes
Dr. Mcelroy is by far one of my favorite professors at UTD. There are two exams, 3 quiz's, 1 research paper, some extra credit offered too. She is professional and excited about teaching class, which makes it exciting to be there. Learn a lot of new interesting things away from the regular mathematics associated in economics. SIgn up wile you can!
Most useless course I have taken. She is enthusiastic but so unorganized. She pretends to but unbiased but the class was less public economics and more liberal public policy. The book is basically the liberal bible. Asks questions on the tests that are irrelevant and minute details. Class is waste of time. I didn't learn a single new thing.
Absolutely ridiculous that this class is only taught by McElroy and is required to graduate. She brings nothing new to the table and is completely disorganized. She is such a terrible professor. I can't believe she's been able to get away with this level of quality for this long. Not impressed with anything she did all semester
This course is really Intermediate Micro applied to public finance. All she expects is for you to use those tools and bring something intelligent to the discussion. I was first opposed to her free style of teaching, but I'm glad she proved me wrong. She makes what could be a boring repeat into something rewarding. I would definitely take her again.
Public Sector Economics. Is actually a shame that this course was mandatory, I feel cheated from my tuition and my time. Although the professor is clearly incredibly intelligent, teaching is seemingly her lowest priority. Never responded to emails, never returned papers, and never handed out a syllabus (if she even had one).
She is super energetic with her lectures and very approachable. Not the best with organization - perhaps she is very busy this semester. It's a pretty easy class though. Pretty interesting topics for the most part; I would recommend this class.
I loved her class, never did I think economics would be so interesting. She is by far the most energetic professor I have ever had. Her lectures are interesting and she is clearly very intelligent. Would def take again.
One of the best professors I had this semester. She encourages class discussion and answers any questions you may have. She can be a little disorganized, but it's nothing a friendly reminder can't fix.
Never got a syllabus. This class was easy in a sense that there was only 4 grades and she curves tests, but it was very unorganized. I never felt like I knew what was going to be on the test so it was difficult to study for them.
Here's the sciggity scoop. She's high energy, extroverted. What does this mean? Disorganized. I'm currently typing this 9 weeks in the class. Guess what? No syllabus yet. "You have to buy the access code to do the hw" Guess what? No hw yet. If you took ECON with LUBA, you DEF. learned more. I'm applying what I learned from that class to this one.
Dr. McElroy is extremely unorganized which is extremely frustrating. You never really know when things are do or when quizzes and tests are.
Dr. McElroy is a really good professor. Microeconomics is a fairly easy topic, and Dr. McElroy clearly explains topics in microeconomics with real life examples. If you show up to class and do her online reviews, then you will ace the course.
This professor is extremely unorganized. We did not receive a syllabus until the 10th week of class. Along with this, I learned more about the professor in her lectures than about economics. A lot of what she was saying was incorrect, and students had to correct her on her questions and answers.
Extremely disorganized. Received a syllabus halfway through the semester, but it didn't matter because she never kept up with deadlines. Students bought access codes for HW that never came. Teaching style is sporadic and is never prepared for lectures. Responds to emails in an untimely manner. Complete was of time. Not worth the student loans!!!
Best professor I've had at UTD! The material is like first-level basic, so who cares who teaches it?! What's important is the unique advice she gives. For example she explained the work-leisure problem in terms of studying for her exams. I'll remember that forever. Very wise person and in my opinion the most undervalued professor on campus.
Dr. McElroy is an awesome professor. If you need rigid structure that sticks to the syllabus, do not take her. She is sometimes unorganized but she makes up for it by giving great lectures. She is extremely knowledgeable, and your engagement within will dictate if you do well or not along with your reading of the assigned texts.
This professor is very unorganized and scattered. She had unclear lectures that made the material more difficult than it needed to be. She graded the midterm incorrectly and repeatedly said she would correct it, but never did. Some of the questions on the exams were set up incorrectly (i.e. typos and incorrect math). She doesn't respond to emails.
She's a nice professor and really tries to engage students in the class. She posts materials all online for each class, and attendance is optional. Grading is lenient in that you get scored on only your best 3 out of 5 quizzes. However, the only two other grades are the midterm and final. If you just review online notes, it should be easy to pass
She is all over the place. If she likes you, you will make an A, if she doesn't like you, you will fail. Simple as that. She plays favorites for sure and doesn't give the class priority. She's too focused on her own research and it refects as every other class she comes 10 min late.
Her quizzes & tests are SUPER easy. She's a nice woman but her lectures are unorganized and not concise. She tries to be thorough but just ends up rambling/over-explaining. You'd be saving time learning the material yourself rather than listening to her lectures. Make sure to read the articles she assigns as she writes questions based off of them.
She's so nice and caring. However, she is a little disorganized in class. But makes up for it online, everything is posted online. If you're grade is not good, talk to her she will help. The wording on the tests are a little confusing, but not terrible. Would take again.
The WORST prof. in utd Disorganize and keep being late! $100+ textbook just for 2 HW!!!?
Dr Mac is one of a kind. She is scatterbrained as hell but really cares about what shes talks about. But beware of other students who will derail her for a whole class and talk about unrelated topics. If you go to half the classes and skim the text books (they're normal books) you'll be fine.
Dr. Mac is definitely all over the place. She won't really get your grades back to you in a timely manner. The books for her class aren't used as she mostly does discussion/lecture. Honestly she's not bad for ECON electives, she's more focused on making the class discuss things than memorize.
Get ready for a headache! She is deafening even from the back of the room!!!
She knows her stuff and makes classes interesting! In all honesty, I sat in the back on my computer or phone doing work for other classes or watching videos with one earbud in and she didn't mind, which is always a plus in my book. And was always open to comments and ideas.
suuuuper lenient on due dates, and hw is pass/fail so thats 100% right there. quizzes are easy too and she only takes top 3 quiz grades. there is only 2 exams tho. she also takes forever to post syllabus/respond to emails/post grades. but she gives a lot of study material! and cancels class sometimes and usually ends class early
GIVE THIS WOMEN A RAISE! The final was optional (thank god) AND she curved grades! I studied for the quizzes but failed ALL but one, and still ended up with a B!!!!! Only thing she grades is quizzes, one midterm, and hw which are Pass/Fail. Easy class, extremely nice professor, and grading is lenient! TAKE HER!!!
She's an awesome professor! She cares a lot about her students and is great at explaining the concepts. A little disorganized but it didn't really have an impact on me. The tests, homework, and exams are very easy and there are a lot of extra credit opportunities.
A really caring person. She wants to see you do well and will help you. She explains well and her quizzes/exams are just like her reviews. She can be a bit unorganized but she will give you a proper education. She even made the final optional for the class. If you struggle in econ, she will help you understand. Highly recommend!!
laid back and attendance wasn't mandatory. barely any assignments and like 5 quizzes (only takes 3 highest grades). not the best prof content wise - I did better by using online sources like quizlet and stuff instead of going to class.
The best professor I have ever had! Aside from being a great professor, she is also a great person in general. She cares about her students and makes her classes extremely interesting. If you are en econ major, my advice is to take any and all classes she teaches!!!
HW wasn't pass/fail- it was averaged. Her quizzes and exams were pretty basic but I would definitely recommend reading the online book (Cengage unlimited) to get a high score. I don't know if the final is optional for us but she has not said anything so probably not. A little unorganized but overall, a pretty easy class.
She was by far my favorite teacher this semester she is so nice and funny and gives lots of extra credit/binus points on quizzes and tests. She makes really comprehensive study guides for quizzes and tests and grades very fairly. She has calculators and scantrons for students and she prints out all the sheets you need which is SUPER nice of her!
By far the worst teacher I've taken within the economics department at utd. She was completely disorganized and made up the class as she went along. She created assignments out of nowhere and tested us over problems that we hadn't ever gone over in class. If you are thinking about taking her for public sector economics, try to avoid her.
Dr. McElroy is a lovely person and is passionate about Economics. However, her teaching structure is rather disorganized. Her lectures are engaging, but the grading criteria is unclear throughout the entire semester.
She's a really nice professor and makes the class as easy as possible the only thing is that the homework is harder than the quizzes/tests and that its a little annoying to navigate her e-learning. There's 5 quizzes and homeworks but 2 of each are optional to replace grades from each that your not satisfied with + bonus points on quizzes and tests.
I've got mixed feelings. She's a genuinely nice person, but pretty disorganized. Grades are lenient (quite a few drops), but the grade make-up wasn't clear for a while and she never responds to emails. It's an easy A class, but you won't learn too much. Take her if you need to knock out a core, but if you plan on taking econ ULs, take another prof
McElroy is a great professor if you want to pass easily. Although people say she doesn't teach much, she's basically teaching you what you'll be doing in 3-5 years from now. Due dates and grading are very lenient and attendance is not necessary. This review was all from online classes.
She's really funny and always engages students during lectures. She also makes sure to post any extra worksheets/reviews students may need to learn the material better and takes time to answer questions and explain the material thoroughly.
Professor McElroy is a super sweet and kindhearted professor. Although her lectures are fun and eventful, her lack of communication and her confusion across the syllabus made the content in the class difficult to understand.
Professor Mac is very sweet and kind. You can tell she's very passionate about economics, however, her teaching style was not for me. I couldn't really understand anything and just stopped going to class. Honestly, everything was open book even the exams, so it's not hard to get a good grade.
Her lectures are very powerful. She has the ability to motivate and inspire, a potential Ted Talk speaker haha! I say if you do practice quizzes, complete the worksheets and do your homework and do the questions built within cengage, this class will be super easy for you. Also rely on the long version of her powerpoints!
The professor is great and passionate in personQuizzes take the highest three. Her downsides are 1. you wouldnt learn much in her class 2. her test or quiz question is sometimes unorganized 3. She and her TA wouldnt reply to the email, very ineffective in resolving the problem. Maybe she needs to change a TA to perform better on replying temail
She's great. Super nice and so understanding, she trusts us and also will defend us if needed. as long as you're keeping up and learning the new stuff everything easy. there are 5 quizzes but lowest 2 get dropped. hw is completion if you get a certain score so those are easy 100's too. Super easy A!
I really liked her lectures! Has a passion for Economics and Im not forgetting some of the stuff I learned in her class, thatll stick with me. Homework was cool and is for completion if you get a certain amount of points. Overall pretty easy class but not a walk in the park.
Lectures were good, assignments were very straightforward.
She cares and it shows! very easy open note/online quizzes and hw due on alternating weeks. 2 easy online/open note exams. The time period for quizzes and exams for way longer than needed. Makes everything online so you don't even have to go to class and will give multiple reminders of when things are due plus is very lenient on extensions.TAKE HER
Almost entirely online between textbook, quizzes, homework, and exams. McElroy is a very fun professor, but you don't actually need to attend her class to get an A. Just read the textbook and do the homeworks and you'll get a good grade. All quizzes and exams are open-book/open-note.
She is nice and u will most likely pass her class, however, she is the absolute worst procrastinator I have ever met. She never delivers anything on time, half the semester you have no idea how u will be graded because she doesn't post the syllabus or any assignments. Deadlines are always a blur and it's frustrating because she is so irresponsible
Dr. McElroy is a professor who knows what she's talking about. Her lectures are slow sometimes, and you might feel like you didn't learn much. She gives quizzes every other week, and you have a whole weekend to complete them; she also uploads quiz reviews which helped me a lot. The homeworks were a bit hard and took some time to finish & understand
Professor McElroy is a great choice for ECON. She not only explains the material well, but she is also very understanding. She tells you exactly what you need to study and provides a lot of practice. The workload was not too bad, with 2 exams and HW and quizzes on alternating weeks. However, she is a little disorganized.
Prof Mcelroy was okay, a bit disorganized and takes a really long time to grade. She also spent the first month of classes just teaching us how to use MindTap and where to buy the textbook, so we didn't even start learning content until a month in. The slideshows don't really help with the exams. Otherwise she's nice and doesn't require attendance!
Dr. Mac is extremely warm-hearted and caring. However, class is really boring and for the most part useless. I spent the semester learning from the textbook we are required to purchase. As long as you take notes from the textbook the class is an easy A.
Professor McElroy is nice but doesn't really respond to emails. We used MindTap for homework, some quizzes, and 2 exams (the second exam was worth 35% of your grade). I didn't attend class but still did well in it.
Dr.McElroy really cares about her students! She was always very accommodating and wanted our input regarding how our quizzes and exams should be. Overall, the class was easy as long as you put in effort but her lectures were confusing so be ready to read the textbook. Also, she likes to talk a lot and was a bit unorganized at times. Very sweet tho
Definitely the best professor at UTD! I wish more were as caring and "real" as she is. This was the easiest course I've ever taken and I would definitely take another course with her. We had to pay for an online textbook but the homework on there was only for a completion grade. We also had online quizzes that were simple if you attended lecture.
Dr.McElroy was extremely inspirational and, hands down, one of the best instructors I have ever been taught by. She truly cared for each individual and went the extra mile for each student.
One of the best lectureres. Gives extra credit for students for showing up to class even though attendence is not mandatory and also homeworks are completion grade.
Great lecturer! Cares about her students and gives extra credit if you show up to class.
Shows up a few mins late to class EVERY day, unorganized lectures, and does not respond to emails. She waits until less than 2 weeks before the midterm/final to even tell you when it will be and takes forever to post grades. My high school economics class was much harder than this class. Waste of time but u can easily get a good grade in the class.
She was unorganized and didn't tell us things on time. She will tell us what the exam is on a day before our exam, literally a few hours before. I would never take her again.
I say "inspirational" because her accusatory rant toward students over low attendance was quite inspiring. No mandatory attendance, but became mandatory later in the semester. Very disorganized course, grades came in a month late on a routine basis. Otherwise, an ok prof. Course was easy, and she was extremely kind and knowledgeable on the subject.
pretty easy class for the most part, in person lectures but all assignments and tests were online. she drops a bunch of the lowest grades which is nice. the only downside is that she swapped the final from being online to in person which was unexpected, but let us take 4 quizzes and if we got above a certain score we would be exempt.
