Worst teacher ever!!!!!! Extremely unorganized, never stuck to the syllabus, but tested on what she was supposed to teach (but never did). Quizzes and tests were very confusing! Didn't even correct the confusing questions for the FINAL! Seemed very condescending when approached in or outside of class.
Nice prof.During the middle of semester, she tests you on the chapters that you never learned. After, she will teach those chapters but I feel that it’s too late. Also, she get off track with her lecture and talk about totally different chapters. Her slides do not state anything. Test is not that hard if you read the book.Nice person but not as prof
Dr. Meacham is a nice enough person but is a horrible teacher. She is disorganized, unfocused, and writes tests that are unclear, silly, and just don't make sense. She acknowledges this and then doesn't correct her mistakes on final exams (same exact error-filled questions). Spends too much class time talking about nothing important or relevant.
Really boring class, lectures start off at what they're suppose to be about then she sidetracks on off topic subjects.Nice person but not a good teacher. Tests are retarded, especially quizes, on the 2nd quiz she had 2 multiple choice answers that were correct. I suggest taking Ditmeyer or Miracle.
easy class, if u know some basic bio u'll do fine. I never even opened my text book i'd just scan the power points and i got a B. You don't even need to attend class. the lectures aren't really interesting and can be scattered
She states in the beginning that she expects you to do your "textbook" learning outside of class. What she lectures on in class is real-world experience to SUPPLEMENT the text material. If you can discipline yourself to keep up, you'll do fine. She has high expectations, but if you show you're making an effort, she'll go out of her way to help you.
Not a very good teacher. She doesn't stay on the subject. okay in fact her lectures has nothing to do with the chapters- She just likes to talk. She doesn't have a very good teaching style. Test over materials that are in the chapter that are only stated once. So if you want to get a D or F in this class then I suggest u take the class.
Grrr. . . . .
HORRIBLE BIOLOGY TEACHER. I learned absolutely nothing from Meacham , I taught myself the class material. Nothing that she talks about is on the tests. The class average for all of the test are always F's. She does not keep up with the syllabus in teaching the chapters, so when the tests come up not all of the chapters have been taught.
Overall this professor is not good at all. But i have to admitt shes is much better than Regner, but still hard. Her material she covers in class is very brief and even if you study really hard for the exams she puts things in there that are so in detail and tricky.
Super nice woman. You have to memorize the textbook to get an A. That is just science for you.
Any Biol 189 class you take at UNLV is going to be rough (I know from experience.) I'd say from my past experiences, Meacham was the best of the profs I had. If you're forced to take BIOL 189, you should probably take it with her. You don't really have to show up to lecture (if you don't want to)..she kinda just babbles for the entire time. Read th
She's a happy professor. Her lectures dont really help much. I never took notes but got an A by reading the book. My advice to you is to read & internalize the books material & you should be fine.
I don't think she realizes that she was teaching a Bio class. UNLV really needs to look at their department and figure out why so many people are having to retake this course. Sure, alot of it has to do with the material, but the other big part to it is the professors within the department. For a 100 level class the professor sucked!
From what I hear it's better to take her class than Regner's however that's due to the fact that it seems she gets everything on her tests from the cd-rom's test. So you don't have to attend her class at all which is good because it seems most of time she really doesn't know
Nice Teacher. Willing to help if necessary. She does go on tangents during the lectures, but you get used to it. GO TO CLASS- She does give extra credit points for lecture questions!!!! Use the CD Rom! But this course is extremely difficult for most.
All BIOL189 classes are hard. I don't think it's necessary to come to class, she just babbles alot. You have to read the book. If you memorized her study guides on Webcampus, you'll do great on exams because the questions are practically the SAME!
She is a horrible teacher !!! She is not helpful at all!! I have had bad teachers in college but she is by far the worst. She tests you on things she has not gone over. The information she tels you in class is sometimes incorrect. She has no idea what she is doing.
She is a decent teacher. If you go to class, she gives you PLENTY of opportunity to get participation points. Her tests are straight out of the book, so it's definitely mandatory to read every chapter and do the practice questions. I had her for BIOL 189 and 224 (summer) and she handed us points when she saw the class average dropping..she's not go
She is actually the WORST teacher I have EVER had, and I'm a senior... I've had lots of teachers.
By far the worst teacher I have ever experienced at a college. She has no clue what is going on and admits that information is 'wrong in the slides so just learn from the book'. Why am I paying so much money to teach myself??? She is not qualified to teach this class where it is mandatory to get a B for major req's, she is ruining peoples careers!
She absolutely is useless as a professor. She goes on tangents to hide the fact she doesn't know the material. She lets this be known when she said the uvulu &epiglottis were the same thing. She never uses biological terms to describe anatomy. She was heartless when I came to see her in her office. She's Changed the grading scale so many times.
WOW!! i have never had such a worse teacher in my whole life...except for maybe BIOL 223 who was just as much useless as a professor. the answer meacham gave to every question i asked her was, "I'm not sure about that, let me look it up." are you kidding?!?! i can look it up my self and then i'll know it is right. do not take her if possible.
She sucks at teaching but if you read the book you'll at least pull a B.
meacham was a horrible teacher!! i seriously studied that book from cover to cover and i still got a B-. this class is ridiculous but you gotta take it if your a bio major.
Engaging teacher, very knowledgeable, passionate about subject. She takes the subject matter and relates it to everyday life, such as talking about new scientific breakthroughs. She sometimes digresses from the textbook/exam mat. and there were times I was frustrated w/ that. She doesn't hand you the test but study and READ THE BOOK<---important!
dr. meacham was not a very good teacher in the least. she was a bit insane and disregarded the textbook during lectures. when it comes to the test read the chapters from cover to cover and you probably won't get any better than a C-, that's just how it is. the lab helps a lot though so do well and study constantly and you MAY get a B. MAYBE
Words can't even begin to describe how awful she is! Avoid her at all costs.
Overall, she is a nice lady but the class is hard. But it doesn?t really matter what teacher you get for bio 189 because they are all going to be hard. If you want to pass all I can say is study study study and read the book. That?s really all you can do. And pay attention in the labs because they really do help a lot.
She is a really nice professor but she goes of topic a lot and talks too much. Everything that she says in the lecture is just like what is in the textbook. I would just recommend just a lot of reading and studying.
STAY AWAY!!!! Meacham goes off topic about every 5 minutes, she tells you to read the book but her tests don't seem to be based on the book. If you end up taking her, pay attention to SMALL details, she doesn't want memorization, she wants you to understand the concept. If you don't HAVE to take her, then DON'T!!!
A LOT OF STUDYING IS WHAT U NEED TO GET A GOOD GRADE IN HER CLASS.
she's passionate about the subject but everyone is right, she strays from the text/test/course material A LOT. taking notes during class is nowhere near enough to get a good grade. her lecture is extremely vague. If you want to do well in this class, you need to outline the chapter on the weekends and study it before each class. READ, STUDY, & READ

Professor Meacham tries to keep lectures interesting. They are only enough to vaguely address your attention to what is important. Read and outline the chapters yourself. Review practice questions, remembering that only about 5 will be on the test. All work must be done by you. Easy lab gives you 25% and final exam is 25%, and the easiest test.
All i got to say is: "What does chocolate cake have to do biology!"
Tests were abstract and misleading. Lecture was okay. Went everyday, studied as much as possible, still ended up with a C. Read hidden context in the chapters. Material is a lot, very broad! Note: Keep all old tests for final.
thiss ladyyy is the worst teacher on the planet. she talks about things that werent even related to biology, her voice is so monotoned that whenever you go in there, you'd want to knock out. i hated going to her class and ended up having to audit it to not end up with a bad grade. HER NOTES DO NOT HELP AT ALLL !
Interesting class. I really don't think she was "the worst teacher in the world". Not the best but still learned a lot from her. Her tangents are interesting. All of her questions come from the test. As long as you read the text well in advance before the test then you should be alright. Can't blame everything on the professor if you don't study.
As an education major I can tell you this woman has no clue about how to teach a class. She strays off topic, is really monotomous, and can't create a fair test. I was expecting a 100 level class and got something much, much worse. DO NOT TAKE HER!
AVOID THIS INSANE LADY. Everyday I try to find out how made a mistake at UNLV to hire this clueless "teacher". She is insane and completed ignorant. It seems that it is her part time job. She doesn't even read your papers and grades you by her feelings. Horrible.
AVOID HER IF YOU CAN! Very monotoned. Doesnt give a rat's behind if you comprehend her or not. Lectures were torture. She tries to crack jokes and they're not funny. Gives misleading study guides and isn't clear on exams. She does not grade fair.
Meacham has extensive knowledge and experience from which to draw, but lacks the teaching skills to convey it. She treats students w/ respect when she is respected, and won't tolerate distracting students. to pass w/ an A, do the following in descending order: Memorize the answers to ?s on webcampus, review PPTs, read the chapters, attend class.
I am a graduate student and I cannot believe how this teacher is still at UNLV after so much complaints. Cannot teach at all. Horrible.
She does go off topic sometimes and she hates disruptive chatter. Even with reading all the chapters, it was hard to get a perfect grade; she is tricky sometimes. She has practice review guides, but she could trick you with the questions and sometimes a few questions might be on the exams. You have 5 exams & you drop 1.
DIDN'T THINK 100 LEVEL CLASS COULD BE THIS HARD, OR IS IT JUST HER?!
She's a really confusing and hard professor. Her lectures don't make sense and the only thing that kept me up was the lab. Her tests are ridiculous and even though they are not that hard, they are really tricky and i had a tough time keeping a decent grade in the lecture.
I don't think she's a terrible teacher. Her lectures get a little boring. The tests are pretty easy to me. READ THE QUESTIONS AND THE ANSWERS. It's hardly trickery. I reread the tests and most of it's dumb answers. Most of the test is in the book anyway. Trust me. I read each chapter twice. Her powerpoints are very straightfoward. Just study.
This teacher is horrible! would not recommend to anyone!
TOO MUCH TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS CLASS. LEARNED NOTHING. HORRIBLE TEACHER. THANKS FOR TAKING MY MONEY AND GIVING ME NOTHING BACK IN RETURN.
better off reading the book
Overall, the class wasn't difficult. She does get off topic a lot, but the labs really help. Attendance is a must - she'll throw in obscure questions on tests about horses (she's obsessed) or something she mentioned once in class. Her powerpoints are the key to getting an A; they have all the info for her tests.
Horrible teacher. Better off studying my high school biology notes.
She teaches lecture in a huge auditorium so you'd think she'd try to speak a little bit louder so everyone can hear. Everytime she gets closer to the mic, she whispers even quieter. Her exams aren't difficult, as long as you pay attention in lecture and read
Total rambler. She goes off topic least 3 times during a class period. The class seems to drag on forever but I did end up learning a lot. She throws random questions in the tests so definitely go to class. Print out the power points before class, they really help.
The only reason I learned anything was because I read the book. I only went to class on test days. Do yourself a favor and take this class with a different teacher.
Although I struggled a little in this class, I thought Meacham was a really great teacher. Many of you who complain about her test being a little tricky because of random stuff obviously didn't attend class!Print out the powerpoints, read the book, ask questions, SIT IN THE FRONT and ATTEND CLASS are things I recommend.
bio 189 is an introductory class, if you atttend class, listen to the points she stresses during lecture, try the practice tests prior to the tests, and read the book you will not have a hard time in her class. Yes she rambles but some questions end up on the tests. Dont be afraid of her because of what others say he class really wasnt bad.
The hardest thing about this class is absorbing all of the information. Taking the time to read the book is a must. Take the practice tests online and the ones that she upload (very helpful). Overall, she's a fairly good professor who tries to make things as easy as possible. Take her.
Meachum was an overall good teacher if you read the textbook. I honestly really liked her and the fact that the final exam was just all of the previous exams mushed together. I didn't totally study for that class and I got a C+. Pretty good for someone who didn't try so hard.
if your taking this class at least read each chapter more than once maybe 3-4 times before taking the test. she sometimes shows videos in her class that will be on the test so its best to go to her lectures. study the power points especially the pictures she puts up and read. She is the easiest professor compared to regner and winokur so good luck.
Absolutely an amazing professor. Completely satisfied with the way she teaches and I think she explains things very well. My first time Taking a bio class and passed with a B. If your taking this class, just make sure you are interested in this subject it will make it much easier to comprehend the readings.
Great professor.
Although she does go off on tangents, she is enthusiastic about what she researches and teaches. Make sure you attend class for the random in-class questions on the exam, and PREREAD to understand what's going on in class. Final was exact same questions as previous 3 exams, plus new material.
In order to do well on the exams, you really need to just understand the textbook chapters very well. It might be worth it to you to go to class in order to understand her little "inside joke" questions on the exams...but it's kind of a waste of time if you just read the book and study the powerpoints. The final is a compilation of previous exams.
She makes no sense on lectures and gets off topic. She knows more about nutrition than biology. Many of her slides were incorrect because she did not know the material and she had no knowledge of biology so she couldn't answer students questions. I did not attend any but 2 or 3 of her classes and I did well in the class by just reading the text.
Love, love this professor. She tells stories from her personal life experience that pertain to the the topic. She does this to reward those students that show up to class by asking quesitons on the exams pertaining to the stories. I loved reading the book, but she does test from the powerpoints.
She is truly not as bad as the comments make her out to be. The course is designed to be hard, and because of that people will inherently dislike the class. Sure, she does tend to ramble a bit during her lectures but she will go out of her way to help you if you approach her. Study from the book and do well on the lab and you will be fine.
NICE LADY!.. all you have to do is read the chapter and shoe up to class.. she gives a couple of hints "momma packed lunch" is one but i would recomend her...
She doesnt really teach you anything, i learned everything from the book. As long as you read the book ur good.
She's a nice, cheerful lady but during her lectures she tends to go off topic. As long as you read your textbook you'll be okay. She also drops your lowest exam grade which is really helpful. She does her best to give you a good grade.
Absolutely terrible. Love biology. Hated the class. Professor was useless.
SHE IS TERRIBLE. the worst prof iv ever had. rambles on forever about nothing then when the test comes i have no idea what to expect because she does not help at all. i need to retake the class. DEFINITELY NOT USING HER AGAIN.
My friend and I missed passing by 1% and we begged to be passed and she wasnt having it. Now Im a semester behind and my friend wont graduate on time. She was HORRIBLE!
I didn't go to her class and I pulled an A. She spends most of the class talking about herself and how she like boron. Stupid test questions. I over studied for her exams. Stupid class didn't learn anything.
She shouldn't be teaching biology. She should just stick to Nutrition because that's all she talks about in class. Boron, calories, her research on boron, and more irrelevant information for Biol 189.
she was ok, likes to talk a lot about nutrition. Showing up to class is helpfull she gives hints during lecture and they happen to show up in class.
She's so boring. Constantly talking about something that has nothing to do with the lecture. I hate her. Just read the textbook and powerpoints, and you're good to go.
Her class wasn't that hard. I didn't listen to a damn thing she said in lecture, I just read the book, as long as you read it, take notes from it, and look at her power points you will be fine.

She is a decent and very fair teacher. she drops your lowest test grade and will add points back into tests. Made an A when I thought I was going to make a B. Reading book and studying her powerpoint slides is enough to do well in this class.
She is actually a great teacher. She knows quite a lot and can teach very well. She does go off topic at times but that is only because she loves what she's teaching! She drops the lowest exam grade which helps a lot. You may think your getting a C or a D during the semester.. but towards the end you'll realize you were actually doing well!
the class in general is definitely difficult and she rambles on a lot about useless things BUT if you study hard enough then you will do better than you thought. I suggest printing out her power points and adding notes to them as you read the textbook. Make sure to do well in lab and on the final exam because it helps your grade a lot.
Nice lady, interesting lectures sometimes. Not bad at all as long as you put some effort. likes to use hints on her tests which is nice. (momma packed luch!) I would recommend to take her and don't expect an easy grade.
She messed up all my grades. on tests there were multiple questions that were the same so if u didnt know the answer & its wrong u got both wrong. my friend failed everything and got a b. i passed most and failed 2 and i got a d. i emailed her and never responded till half way into spring. dnt bother atendn she doesnt give u credit neway. i gave up
She knows alot about biology and relates everything to her studies in nutrition and boron. Read the chapter and go to class, study really hard, and pass the class. Not an easy A but possible if you invest the time.
Class was easy if you studied. Nice lady. These ratings are too harsh, the grades people get reflect on their studying habits.
i think she is a great teacher! you just have to read the book in order to get a better understanding of everything. She curves generously and i would highly recommend her to any bio student!
Not a hard class, just read the powerpoints and the textbook and you're good to go.
Not a hard class, just read the powerpoints and the textbook and you're good to go.
i think she was such a great professor! shes very easy going and her class is not hard you just need to read the book! i highly recommend her!
She has a habit of digressing and talking about things. Also, she's an enthusiastic nutritionist and at times you see material on powerpoints and on the tests that is completely unrelated to Biology, about nutrition. Know everything about boron and boric acid. In-class slides were generally unhelpful, the book is the best thing to study.
Couldn't stay awake during her lectures. Sometimes the lectures didn't even relate to bio. She randomly gives hints on the test and her powerpoints aren't very helpful. She messed up on grading our tests, so make sure to check your scantron answers when its graded.
Dr. Meacham is a fantastic instructor. She is very fair and prepares you for the comprehensive final. Study your prior exams well, it will help you through the course and the final. Take full advantage of the tutoring, they are very helpfull! Highly recommended instructor... Tim
A brilliant teacher with a doctorate in nutrition, and many other interests. She tests on many things that are said and discussed in class as long as you attend class you will pass. Print out the power points provided, make notes on them, and use them to study.
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR BIO 189. She always goes off subject, calls people out on talking and makes them leave the room even when they didn't do anything wrong. Isn't a good professor to take for bio 189
BIOL is not pure memorization, you actually have to understand the concepts. You need to put in the time and effort even for this class.
