She is a really good teacher. She helps you whenever you need to and she wants you to learn and succeed. It's one of my favorite classes and she doesn't make you feel stupid if you don't know something. One of my favorite teachers by far!
THE best teacher you'll find on campus. She wants everyone to succeed and does a great job at teaching by having everyone up on the board trying the problems instead of having you watch her. She's there to help you after hours and a very sincere person. She loves math and you can tell by her enthusiastic in class. A definite must take class!
I have been out of highschool for 16 years and so have forgotten everything. She has taught me calculus so well, that I understood every concept and easily got an A by putting in my share of the effort. Thank you Sister Orme.
Sister Orme is the best math teacher I have ever had. Usually I struggle to understand the concepts being taught and never do well on exams. But she taught very clearly and had us do problems on the board in groups which was very helpful. The homework isn't too bad since she prepares you for it really well. For once I feel confident in my math.
I had her for Math 112 and this is the first time I have understood what was going on in a math class. She teaches clearly and makes class fun. I was always able to do the homework and felt prepared for the tests. She's dedicated and willing to help out when needed. Tests are 50% of your grade and homework and quizzes are 50%. Calculators allowed.
Ok, so she does teach well, and she does want you all to succeed, but when you answer it better be the answer she wants. You may be right, but if its not how she says it it's wrong. Also she has the crazy outbursts of anger. She cant keep it under control. Try asking her a question that has already been asked just for fun. do it and then laugh
She is a nice teacher and everything however I am normally really good at math and this class just about killed me. I felt like she didnt really teach us. We always ran out of time before we finished the lesson. The material I thought was easy but the tests sucked, I got a 59% on one. most of the material I had to teach myself. Do not take her
she is the worst teacher i have ever had in the history of forever!!! she does not teach whatsoever, AND she yells at you and tells you how dumb you are when you ask her a question. i would NEVER take a class from her again
the class was fast pace and she taught the material pretty well. Everyday she goes over homework and questions. She usually doesn't finish her lessons by the end of class. She does not curve her test. But she is willing to me with you and help you.
Math has never been something I've been good at, but in her class I actually did well and understood it. She really cares how her students do, and she worked really hard to make sure that everyone did as best as they could. She's a really sweet lady, and she's funny, so class was always interesting. She really knows math well.
I took this class as my first math class in 5 years and I was lost from day one, she let me audit the class that semester. I took it from her again the next semester and was more lost then before dropped out to save my GPA. Very nice and willing to help, if you can understand her...
Definitely would not take her again. After a couple of visits to the math lab I realized half of the people in there were from my class, bad sign. Someone mentioned it earlier but she does have random outbursts of anger, especially if the class isn't understanding something or the same question is asked twice.
She explains exactly what she wants from you, everything is very organized, and the order she teaches in makes everything make sense.
Great teacher! It takes a lot of work to get an A in her class
Very good teacher. Very willing to help. Has a good sense of humor that may be misunderstood but actually makes the class easier.
Awesome teacher. Extremely helpful. Teaches very clearly. Extremely organized- never a doubt about what is expected from the students. She expects you to focus in the class- will not spend time answering your question if you weren't paying attention or if it has already been asked. If you are mature and pay attention, she is the teacher for u.
She is a VERY fast paced teacher, but is THE BEST MATH TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! I can actually understand math from her !
TERRIBLE. Nice, but she doesn't really teach math. We spent the first month of semester learning to recognize functions based on what they look like. My whole group was frustrated with her teaching style. And she insists on using an online program instead of a textbook, and has you print off these fact sheets, which become your 'textbook'. AVOID.
I love Sister Orme! She is extremely passionate about the subject, and knows what she's talking about. She is extremely helpful. I love going to her class each day! She's one of my favorite teachers here!
She likes math waaaay too much, to the point that it becomes slightly annoying. She doesn't use a textbook so there is no real source for references when you have a question in the class. Taking her class would be the worst decision you could make. Today
Great Teacher! She explains things very well. Easy to ask her questions. And she will help you in her office and not seam like she is in a rush to get you out
Great teacher! She will not answer a question twice if the class is noisy or not paying attention, she makes you act like adults if you want to learn. She teaches the class VERY well and i rEALLY enjoyed learning from her!
She's enthusiastic about her course, but she's set it up very badly. Assignments may or may not appear on iLearn, and the ALEKS system is unnecessary. The whole class is a convoluted disaster. Take it if you want to fail. BTW, the math department at this school is universally awful.
Sister Orme is great. I enjoyed her class and her caring personality. She really wants her students to do well. If you are having a tough time with the material, she urges you to take advantage of her help outside of class. Let class out early which was a bonus =)
Great teacher, really helpful if you're willing to put the effort, but she doesn't have a lot of tolerance for people who don't pay attention or don't try. Overall, really nice, pretty chill, explains things well and the workload wasn't bad at all. There's also a lot of working in groups during class time so if that's something you like...
Sister Orme is AWESOME! She will continue to help you until she can finally find a way for you to understand. She is so sweet! She gives you plenty of time to get your homework done! She will do a test review, which really helps and her test are fair! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!!!
I would not recommend this class. The only people that did well in this class were people that already understood the material before she went over it. The rest of us struggled. Although she says to go to her office if you need help, she will eventually show lack of caring for you if she sees you in her office more than 3 times in the semester.
Super nice and great teacher. I found that she made the material a lot easier to understand and was helpful in answering questions and stuff. the class itself is fairly easy if you put enough effort into it. just an overall awesome teacher and person
Great teacher as long as you do the work. Shes very nice and friendly. She's willing to help as long as you ask. Her classes may not be the easiest but thats because its math.
Supper Awesome teacher. Love the class and she is always willing to help out her students. Has a great way of teaching, and drops your lowest quiz score.
Sister Orme is very passionate about Math, which is nice, until you realize that it's way over-the-top. The work load isn't awful, but I feel like it didn't prepare me for the tests at all. She makes A LOT of mistakes, so be sure to make sure your test is graded correctly. The class is very fast-paced, and she sticks to her syllabus. Come prepared.
Sister Orme is not very clear with her lectures. When students ask questions she does not always know the answer, even though she is a college math professor. Exams aren't too bad but there is a lot of group work and she doesn't explain the materials very well. The final exam is optional and she will take the time to meet with you.
This class was not set up very well. Everything was self graded but then she had you turn everything in at the end of each unit. Tests were really tough, her grading when it cam to tests never really made sense to me.
Great teacher! Her class is very structured and organized, there's no surprises. Lots of small assignments but you do them all in class. She will have no problem re-explaining something to you or taking time to help you sew. Towards the end of the semester she'll come in at the lab at night and help anyone. She really cares!
Sister Orme was NOT an effective teacher at all. She very rarely responds to emails and takes forever to grade assignments. She is not a very understanding person and doesn't seem to want to work with students. Blamed the whole classes failing test scores on the students. I would not recommend Sister Orme to any other student.
She is really nice and i think she knows her stuff quite well. However, She doesn't seem to be a fan of using examples to teach a principle, just using the raw math-speak textbook definitions. Also she is VERY picky about showing literally ALL of your work or you lose credit, even on trivial things like substitution.
Sister Orme is amazing. Seriously. She let me come in every day (practically) to her office during her office hours and outside her office hours. I'm the kind of girl who barely gets Cs in math, but I got a high A in her class. I would recommend her! She is totally willing to help if you are willing to ask for it.
TONS OF HOMEWORK. But if you do it, you will understand and be ready for quizzes and exams. Responds to emails well, office hours are great. Very helpful in class! It's my favorite class of the day honestly. She interacts very well with the students. Prepares you very well for future math classes!! Explains how it applies to life and etc.
I've now taken two math classes from Sis. Orme, specifically because her teaching style matched my learning style. She is fast-paced and accepts no slacking, but she has always been there to help me when I needed it. And for the record, I've been to her office more than three times. Practically every test I'm in there to go over it with her.
She is a great teacher! She will take the time to help you outside of class, and is very clear with her teaching method. Each class has a lot of content so it is better not to miss, but as long as you are there you will learn something new.
I loved Sister Orme. She is very helpful when you don't understand something. If you go to her office she will help you but she will not do the problems for you. If you study and try your best to learn you will do well. Don't be afraid to go to her for help.
Sister Orme is the best math teacher I've ever had in my life! She's not exactly an easy teacher, but she teaches you the why of things and how it works, so that you really understand the concept rather than just memorizing a formula. She's awesome!
Sister Orme is amazing! She is super nice, and the way she teaches makes math so much easier to understand and learn. You definitely have to participate in class and you NEED to pay attention to what's due and when it's due. NO late homework is accepted.
Sister Orme is one of the best Math teachers that I have had. I took here for Math 109 and it was amazing. She really teaches. I love her use of the blackboards to let us practice. Will totally take her again in future classes.
Sister Orme is a very good professor, but I felt like she went way too fast. I was a little irritated that she got angry at the class when we did not know the answer to a question. She is always willing to help, but she is very intimidating. I appreciate her love and enthusiasm for math!
She is good at teaching and really cares, but there are some things that are quite frustrating. She assigns quite a bit of homework, and her test grading... It feels like unless someone who can't do the calculus can figure out why you did all you did, you will be dinged. I did a quiz with no mistakes, but got a B- (after talking to her, C before)
She is a teacher that says stuff like, "How do you solve this?" when you have no idea yet of how to do it. Or when you have a question, she asks, "What do you think?" or "Who can help out?" I JUST WANT YOU TO FREAKING TEACH ME. Her thoughts are all over the place. Her "tasks" she makes us do even before we learn the concepts are pointless as well.
There were points in the semester where Sis. Orme seemed to lose patience with the class. She'd ask the same question over and over in cases where we weren't going to find the answer by continued thinkingeither we knew it or we didn't.
SPECTACULAR teacher. Not sure what everyone else is saying about her teaching style. She gives a problem and expects you to stretch your mind to solve it. It really helps you to learn the material really well. In class she teaches for a bit, then has everyone solve some problems on the boards, helping when needed. Favorite math teacher ever.
You will be expected to know the principles of calculus before you start the course Do not expect to get A's on your tests unless you are able to think of calculus the way that she does Do not expect to feel respected for your ideas and concepts that you share with her in class Prepare to be yelled at as a class for poor performance in class WARNED
Sister Orme is a teacher. She explains the concepts really well, and then helps us understand by having us practice at the boards. The class structure is really good. I love the way that she does homework and tests. You have to study, but the way that she runs class, makes you want to study. Best teacher I have had in collage so far!
You're expected to understand trig and precalc at a very quick pace. There's times in class if your train of thought does not go as fast as her's, then we were chastised and told that we should know this stuff. My thoughts move slower, but I have gotten A's on every exam. In class group work is helpful for solidifying understanding. Lots of HW!
She has been teaching for what seems to be at least 8 years but i get the feeling that she is a new teacher and doesn't know how to teach. Its hard to take notes in the class, she grades super harshly(i got docked points on grammar!), and she gets really upset if you don't participate in class but she asks really confusing dumb questions.
Really loud, loves public humiliation, demands your undivided attention and participation (it's just math), loves to point out how you're wrong
I found that she was very closed minded. I could not grasp a concept, so I went to another faculty member, and he explained it to me in a very simple way. When I did that way on the test, she took half of my points away, even though i had the right answer. I explained to her, what I did she would not accept it because it made sense to me and worked
Sis Orme was a fun teacher and helped me understand calculus thoroughly and in an enjoyable way. Make sure that you stay on top of the homework and get a study group. I didn't and regret it. Plan on spending an hour or two a day working on the homework, sometimes it's frustrating but she is always available to help you out.
Syllabus question? I personally think it is not good way. As seeing this, I can't give her more than 1.
Sister Orme is a great teacher. She gives good lectures in my opinion. She always explains why and not just how. She cares greatly about her students' success and is very accessible outside class. She will not move on until all questions are answered. Textbook and homework is all online. Lots of exams. If you attend class, you will do good.
Sister Orme is a pretty solid teacher. She has you go up to the chalk boards everyday in groups. She has a lot of busy work, that I see as unnecessary. She really wants you to do well in the class and is willing to meet with you just about anytime so you can improve. She does not allow graphing calculators in class or on the exams. Good class.
Sister Orme knows what she is talking about! 5 min of her time is better that 2 hours with a tutor. She is hands down the best math teacher I have ever taken. She requires you show all your necessary work, not just the right answer. But she will give you lots of points if your work is right and you just made a simple mistake. She cares about you!
Sis Orme is honestly the best math professor on this campus (and I've taken 4 of them including her). She seriously cares so much about each student succeeding. She knows the material so well that she can teach it Very clearly. Also is more than willing to meet outside of class time to help!
Sister Orme wastes the majority of class time sending students to the boards after a brief explanation of the material and refuses to answer questions until the end of class, then tell us we need to work harder to understand the material. If you want a lot of busy work and more time on he chalk boards than in your own notes, this is the class.
I never felt confused in her class. She taught the material so well I often didn't take notes. That being said calc 3 is formula heavy so plug and chug. She grades tests different though. If your method to solve didn't match the key you often lost points even though you had the right final answer and correct work. Overall was happy with her class!
Sister Orme is the kind of teacher to take away points on a test even if you got the answer right because you didn't include (at least what she considers) work. She will frequently get angry at the class if they don't seem to understand something. Her way of teaching is looking at your work and saying "that's wrong" but won't tell you how.
Mrs. Orme, is one of the most caring faculty on campus, however, she does not know how to effectively teach the material. She does not realize when you have actively sought out the answer and still have a question. She will tell you to try harder when the material is just not there. She requires you show work that is tedious and sometimes incorrect
We do a lot of board work, which wouldn't be bad if she spent more time teaching the subject. She is also hard to work with because you solve it her way or you don't get full points on the test. She is easily frustrated with the class and if you ask her a question about a problem you're working on she will tell you to ask your classmates.
Sister Orme is a great professor. She cares about her students and does well trying to understand and answer questions. She encourages students to visit during office hours for additional help and I have found these one-on-one meetings to be very beneficial. There's plenty of group work at the boards so if you enjoy that, this professor is for you.
Yes, Sister Orme is a harsh grader. The semester I took Calc 3 from her, she gave us a lot of opportunities to make up some credit. It takes effort to keep up, and that might just be Calc 3 itself. She wasn't my favorite, but I noticed that she's actively improving.
Sister Orme reminds me of a high school teacher in the best way. I truly enjoyed being in her class and learning calculus every day. I would highly encourage students to go to her office hours. If you are willing to put in some work, she is more than willing to meet you halfway.
Sister Orme is the greatest. I took her for Math 214, and she was very enthusiastic about her job. Attendance is definitely required. Theorems and such will stack by the day. There was not much reading, but the work was pretty heavy on certain days depending on how you schedule it.
Honestly, Sister Orme is great! She is easily one of the most caring staff members I know, and will go well out of her way to help you understand the material. That being said, it is a 5 credit course. To succeed, you need to be able to go the extra mile. There's only so much she can cover in class, so it's up to you to get the help you need.
The grading was done very particularly. No room for extra credit. Very fast passed. Quite strict. She does like to help and will meet with you. Kind of particular on how things are taught. Firm but smart and nice lady.
Sister Orme was a very good professor. At times she was far too fast-paced for my liking. If you do the homework assignments and try your best to listen in class, then you can definitely do well in the class. Focuses heavily on group work. Do not forget to turn in group meeting assignments! The little grades add up. Very little leniency for late.
you can retake exam questions for credit, and is good at explaining the material. there is a lot of work to do and everything is part of the grade. I feel it is a good foundational class and she made it memorable.
I am a senior and I loved every teacher ever at BYUI, except for her. Worst experience ever. I had her 2 sem in a row. She enjoys taking points off and has secret expectations. No lenient with late work. She cares more about you being on time for class than if you can show your understanding. Very discouraging hidden behind a fake "growth mindset"
She is accesible outside of class and will go above and beyond to answer your questions. However, she will take points off that you can potentially get back (or not) if you fight her. My least favorite math teacher comparing to the great encouraging professors like Turner, Johanson, Ward, Goodwin, etc. Big group projects where you share grade. Nope
There are weekly "growth mindset" essays that are more or less a waste of everyone's time. My particular class did poorly on an exam and instead of considering if it was her poor teaching style, she spent 30 minutes of class outlining 5 different ways we were bad students. She will dock points if you are 1 minute late to class. Take Johnsons class.
When she explained something and you had a question about what she just said she was so confused how you didn't understand and couldn't change how she explained it which didn't help if you were confused.
Loved her lectures! Classes were spent in group discussions going over the homework, and we are usually given the last 30 minutes to work on the homework.
This was supposed to be an easy college algebra class but quickly turned into the most homework I've ever had and the harshest grading. I would do the work correctly on tests and homework, even have the right answers, and points were viciously taken off. Do not recommend and I will most likely have to retake Algebra. Semester wasted.
Sister Orme is a nice person but a terrible teacher. She is the toughest grader I have ever had. Points are taken off of assignments for the smallest things. We had 3 assignments due before every class period and most of the time we didn't learn the material for those assignments until after they were due. Most people failed the exams.
Had more homework due each day than any of my other classes. She graded super tough on everything, and most people didn't pass or get good scores on tests. We had projects to do on top of everything and if you asked a question to see if you're on the right track she would straight up say no to you. What are we paying you for, why go to class?
