Prof. Pierce is one of the best professors LAVC has to offer. She goes out of her way to assist the student in anyway she can. She meets with each student individually to make sure that you are learning. By all means this professor is the one to take for English.

Susan is a great teacher, she opens her students eyes and minds to everything, we wrote about and discussed everything that was going on in current times, we also discussed in great detail the media and some aspects of philosophy, all she asks is for you to do the work, I highly recomend her, she really is one of the good ones.

A pleasure to take her english class. She not only opens your mind, but also makes writing essays not so painful. She chooses topics that are current and easy to write about. If you don't understand, just ask her during office hours. She is always willing to help.

Professor Pierce is a great teacher. When I was in her class the first day I thought that I was not going to pass her class but I soon learned that she looks tough but she is one of the most helpful teachers I have ever had. I am impressed with her as a teacher.

Awesome class and better teacher. This class not only teaches you to write, it also teaches you to think, a must-have in any college endeavor. I highly recommend this class, 2 easy books that are inexpensive and very interesting, but can be slightly depressing. We watch a lot of movies to help convey ideas/concepts involved with the assignments.

Professor Pierce is an amazing teacher! . She really gets you to think for yourself and see the world in a different light. Be prepared to do a lot of writing though, and make sure you do the assigned reading. She doesn't babysit you so you must discipline yourself. Highly recommend this class!!

Honestly, the reason why I did not get an A in this class is because I slacked off. She is very fair, very nice, and a great person. Her class is interesting and the class really makes you think- I learned a lot. There is a lot of work and reading, but if you get it done, you will get at least a B!I loved this teacher :)

If you rally want to learn to write she is the teacher.You will learn grammar and punctuation real good in this class. Its not a easy class too take, but if you try, then you will definitely get a good grade. You will be very satisfied at the end of the class. Recommended!!!

English majors should take 101 with Professor Pierce. A lot of work, but extremely satisfying. The curriculum is flawlessly plotted throughout the semester and the assignments interesting. She's awesome. There is a lot of reading and writing, but the course is gratifying.

Very difficult class and very challenging.The only complaint I would have is that she insists om using four pieces of work for students to quote from which can lead to repetition. Overall a good class.

THE BEST always helpful we had to write 3 papers and a final paper which consisted of 10 pages. she is extremely helpful. she might look strickt but she is an amazing women. she cares about her students and is always there to help them.

I would recommend taking her even though she gave me a "C." Her class is not easy; but you will learn tons. She does stay on topic! Very picky with assignments; a little too picky. This course is supposed to prepare us for higher education writing assignments but to be honest no Professor or Teacher's Aid really cares if you miss a coma. She's o.k.

I have to admit, she was intimidating the first day of class. The work is not easy but as long as you give yourself some time to work and have strong ideas and viewpoints then you should make it through. It's a plus that she talks about current issues that we find important rather than reading out of a huge textbook. She is a terrific professor!!!

Best teacher at Valley! The class was so interesting and got people thinking and discussing real topics. Pierce leads class discussion and relates material to real life issues. The papers are a lot of work but she offers lots of help and at least one rewrite and has clear instructions. She's funny, frank and will get you thinking!

You have to earn it by attending class, doing the readings, prepare for quizzes, provide in-depth essays, and participate in class! Be on time to every class. There is a quiz each week and you miss it if you aren't there on time. If you are confused, ask! She will help you understand she is very perceptive to different points of view. Use the jail card! She gives one on one time for the final paper, take advantage of this. Have a lot prepared before you meet with her.

This professor changed my life 15 years ago. I took her class after my first English professor failed me the previous semester. Professor Pierce encouraged me to pursue an education in English. I've been working in advertising and marketing for more than 10 years now. I owe it all to her.

Pierce is by far the best English instructor Her critical thinking class elaborated on philo and psych more than my actual psych and philo class which opened my mind greatly, She is a just professor and treats you the way you treat her/the course. At the beginning of the class I felt extremely intimidated and I thought about dropping the class, I'm happy I didn't do so. Professor will challenge you but it's all worth it at the end because you will learn so much. If you are expecting an easy grade this class is not for you. If you really want to learn and succeed take the class.

What I liked most about her was her clear and specific grading criteria. She's not out to alter your writing style, she just wants you to critically examine certain ideas. The coursework is structured to help you succeed where it counts- on the papers. Show up, put in a solid effort, flesh out your thoughts, don't be sloppy, and you'll get your A.

Not an easy A but not hard to get one, quiz of the reading every time since its usually once a week, 3 papers and a 10 pg final paper. Her lectures are very long considering it was 3 hours, no break. She stalls the whole time but her class was interesting just wish shed end early. Very nice and willing to help. Word of advice, do the extra credit!!

You have to write a lot of papers and take quizzes most ever class. She gives a small opporunity for extra credit. If I had the time, I would have done it because it's volunteer work.
