Susan is fantastic! Fun to listen to, extremely approachable, and plenty smart. She goes over mostly everything in class- just be sure to read your text as well for those few random text only questions on exams. She's making sure that you're actually studying!

Interesting professor. Does not use blackboard so attendance is necessary, also to find out what she thinks is the most important. Very friendly and personable. Write fair exams but you need to know very specific points-no general or holistic questions. Paper was not useful to write.

I absolutely LOVE this professor! Not only is she a wonderful teacher, she is an awesome person and really makes you feel important as an individual. She makes boring class content interesting, and makes it really easy to learn. I would highly recommend making sure to get her as a teacher.

BEST PROF EVER. Susan is honestly the Most chill and helpful prof. She gives the most helpful reviews for her midterms and has a lot of class participation, which everyone tends to be involved in. Ohh and is hilarious. Ask her to draw stick figures!

Doesn't use the textbook but still tests on it- so make sure you read it! Good teacher and all notes are on PowerPoint. You must be in class though in order to get the notes because she doesn't post them on blackboard. Make sure you read her tests carefully cuz she tries to trick you and make sure you're paying attention.

Dr. Susan Raine is so nice!!! i like her accent. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY!! she does not post powerpoint slides on blackboard. so you have to go to class to get the notes. pretty easy class.. just make sure you read the textbook cause she will ask some questions from there. she gives you an outline with a definition list to study :)

Very fair tester> didn't teach you anything you wouldnt need. She has no online notes usually (so you cant miss class) but the notes she gives you are short sweet and to the point and wont hurt your hands. She gives ample time to copy them down.

The best teacher I've ever had. Her exams are VERY fair. Memorize her notes and you'll be fine. She does pull stuff from the textbook, but she tells you the omissions. Attend ALL class because she posts nothing online. DO NOT take offence to some of the subjects in class (eg. religion), she is teaching what she KNOWS not what she THINKS.

AWESOME PROF! Keeps class interesting and teaches it VERY well. Whenever help is needed by anyone she is very open and understanding. She replies to emails right away and welcomes and encourages us to email her while studying for exams if anything is unclear to us. Would recommend her to anyone!

I really liked her, her lectures were interesting. All of her notes are on blackboard so you don't really need to go to class but I went just because I liked the way she taught. She always gave a hint or two for the written portion of exams, which was really helpful. Exams weren't too hard, just go over the notes and read some of the textbook.

Her tests are pretty fair. Read the textbook, there are A LOT of textbook questions.

This course was incredible. The material covered was so fascinating and Dr Raine is great at encouraging good and lively discussions. She is also a really wonderful person and will help you when you need it. Her breadth of knowledge is amazing! I recommend this course to anyone that wants to think outside the box!

I love Susan. She is always willing to work around your schedule to make time for you if you have any questions about an exam or concept. She makes class interesting, and always has sometime to say to make you laugh. Your final mark will consist of 2 midterms and a final exam. No papers which is a huge bonus.

I am in my third year of school and Susan is still my favourite professor. She goes out of her way to help you beyond what regular teachers do. Her lectures are also very clear. I really think she deserves a 5.0 rating. She also just seems like a really kind and caring person. She is not intimidating so students will engage in her lectures.

There is nothing bad to say about Susan. Besides the fact that she might be the kindest person I've ever come across, she really does go above and beyond for her students. She can be a tough grader, but if you work hard and answer questions straight forward and clean then you will leave with a nice A. She is a fantastic professor, look no further.

I came into the course (SOCI 100) without any interest in sociology. Within a day or two, I found the discipline fascinating. Susan is an extremely engaging, passionate professor with an amazing breadth of knowledge in all areas of sociology. Her exams are very fair and you are always well prepared for evaluations. Dr. Raine is an amazing prof. I took Soc 100 since its a core requirement but I did really well in her class. I had no interest in sociology going into the class but now I've decided to do sociology as my second minor. I look forward to going to her class and I plan on taking more classes with her. She gives partial marks on exams but they are easy

This class was ridiculously tough but if you are interested in learning about religion, she makes the lectures very informative. Textbook is a bit dry. There were a few reflection assignments, one midterm and final. She wants her students to do well. Even if you don't have her for 387, I highly recommend her for any other Soci class! A true gem :)

Susan is hand down one of the most amazing professors that I have every had. She explain concepts in detail and in a way thats understandable. Every lecture was memorable. She was clear on concepts that were being tested and provided sample questions and exam guides. Would definitely recommend her.

The textbook is really dry but you need to read it to do well. She doesnt have notes online so come to class or borrow notes or elseyou will do bad .

Honestly, I adore Susan. Her lectures are always interesting and her SCOTTISH accent is very easy to listen to. She's extremely helpful and understanding and is always happy to help during her office hours. The exams are pretty easy too; hint: she loves to use 3-5 point lists for short answer questions! Take her class, if you have the chance!

Susan is an amazing prof. The class just has two midterms, a paper (which is pretty simple) and a final. Her tests are based mostly on the notes, but I would definately read through the textbook before exams because there are quite a few questions that come from there!

All exams are reflective of the content on her slides, but reading the textbook is VERY helpful. I would take another class with her, she's a wonderful professor!

I loved every lecture she gave & she goes over the textbook as much as you need to know for the exam (you won't need to read the textbook to teach yourself anything). The class only contains 2 midterms and a final which are all pretty simple if you put in the effort. There are some textbook-specific questions too, so make sure you read it.

This class is such a bore for me, but Susan tried to make it as exciting as possible. She has lots of stories to help you remember concepts. No in class activities besides discussion on occasion, but even that is with the whole class. Kind and patient (except if you talk in class). The concepts were simple. Susan is super nice and a great prof. We were graded only on 2 midterms and the final so there wasn't much wiggle room. Her exams were mainly lecture based so you could pass by just going to class cause the textbook is less than 25% of the exams.

She's really quirky and cares about the material and her students. The class is interesting but you need to go to class and read the textbook to do well. I didn't go to class or read the textbook/notes as much as I should have so make sure you stay on top of those and you'll do great!

Easiest class Ive taken at Macewan! Make sure you show up every class for notes, her exams are incredibly easy because 70% of the questions are her exact notes and the other 30% are from the textbook chapters. She is a really nice teacher, and I enjoyed her class

Arguably the best prof at MacEwan. Very down to earth and is willing to go the extra mile for her students. She is incredibly well educated in the field of religion and seems very passionate about what she teaches. You don't have to have any knowledge of religion before taking her class. She will teach you everything you need to know.

She was honestly my favourite professor I've had so far! She really cares about this course and her students as she communicates with us frequently and ALWAYS gives weekly feedback. As for her grading, I think as long as she can tell you've put the effort in and know the base concept of chapters you'll do really well. Solid choice!

Sue was a fantastic instructor that took the time and care into investing into my success. She gives personalized, above and beyond feedback on exams and quizzes. I would reccomend anyone who struggles in accounting to take accounting with Sue as she takes the time to explain anything you dont understand. 1 of the best instructors I have had!

Dr. Raine is honestly one of the best profs at MacEwan. Super caring, responds to emails as fast as she can, and is very flexible with things provided you give her a reasonable explanation. During this pandemic, she really is trying her best to accommodate everyone and make things a little easier. I bought the required textbook but tbh never used.

Though this was an online delivery, module-based, Susan was always extremely accessible. You could not get an A without the textbook as lots of exam questions come directly from the textbook. Weekly quizzes and discussions got tiring and demanding but easy grades if you put a little bit of effort in. Overall, an easy class if you keep up.

Straight forward, do your quizzes and tests and youll do well in class!

Ms. Raine is one of the best profs I've had in my 2 years at MacEwan. She's so understanding and caring and really sets her students up for success. There were 10 weekly quizzes, 2 midterms, & 1 final exam. All open book. Most of the questions were from the modules themselves. The textbook wasn't needed. Easy GPA booster!

Dr Raine made an amazing online course for her 387 students. I almost felt like I was in the classroom with her as she provides informative and super interesting audio and audio video lectures and power points. Stays connected with her students and cares about them . Must read text to do well on exams. Best contribution posts I had last semester.

The exams for this course were challenging so make sure that you read the text well. Dr Raine's online lectures were extremely engaging and organized. I went to her class components too and they were so good (the one on UFO religions especially!). I hope to take her again and i recommend her completely. She's also a really great person to talk to.

Dr Raine was very understanding about switching from online to in person. She did an amazing job in both formats! Always is happy to talk to students about papers etc. This was the most interesting course of my degree!! Who doesn't want to talk about the weird world of conspiracy theories?!! Dr. Raine was awesome for an intro class! You should read the textbook if you want to get an A as 25% of the questions on the test are from the textbook and not in class discussions. However, the other 75% of test material is from class discussions.

I really enjoyed her as a prof, only has one office hour, does not post notes so go to class! two midterms worth 30% each and a final work 40%, super engaging with the class and you can tell she really enjoys teaching within this field and knows it well, textbook mandatory as she tests about 25% textbook material on all exams

These ratings are so true. Dr. Raine is super kind, approachable, and helpful. Though the textbook was dry, and the class was a bit quiet/slow (warm room too many students), she made the class worth going too. Imo take this after taking 225 as the topics overlap so much it makes it easier to understand. Got 100% on an in person exam a year ago.

Susan was extremely kind and her lectures were interesting, attendance mandatory. Only marked by midterms and finals, which was scary but the tests were the easiest things, no assignments or participation marks. I took soci 302 Evil in Society last winter. In my opinion it is one of the very best soc classes. Dr Raine pulls you in with her lectures and makes you think carefully about the material. Quite a lot of work but I enjoyed it so much. Want to take 387 with her next. Highly recommend.
