smart but needs to get over herself

She's great. We had a fun class. She talked about Martha Stewart a lot. Has a calico cat by the name Charlotte.

I wouldn't recommend this course. Further more, I wouldn't reccommend taking any classes w/her, period. Too strict.
Russinoff is sassy.
Always looks decent! If you can't understand her, just stare! Very slow lecture(r).
Not what I expected and not the most incredible teacher Ive had. She really does need to get over herslf. If you're taking it just to fill the math requirement, think twice. I have some friends that took it for that reason and they regret it.
she's hot, she talks about martha stewart, and this is an easy way out of math requirement unless you're an idiot.
I tried to take this for a math requirement but i dropped it after 2 weeks because it was impossible and the homework made me cry (and i'm actually pretty smart). maybe i should have given it a chance, and the prof seemed cool, but it was just HARD.
fun class
she works u hard and u learn a ton she wont let u be lazy because that is what a great teacher is. she is funny and if u have difficulty go to office hours and shell go over it till u get it... dont fall behind that would be suicide but if u stay on top of her class u can use what she teaches u for the rest of ur life, as an alumni i would say she was one of my favorite teachers and i have very been so proud of a B+ it is hard and worth it susan is womderful
I never thought I'd say this, even less did I think such a thing possible, but the lectures actually have an adverse effect on your ability to grasp logic. She does a fabulous job making the relatively simple material appear complex. TA's were phenomenal though. Russinoff is totally incapable of grabbing either the respect or attention of students
She'll help you in office hours, but her lectures were a bit confusing. It is a hard class. Not an easy way out of the math requirement, you're better off in math 5 or finite math (both are pretty much high school algebra from what i've heard).
i love this class
she's great
loved this class and the teacher
hard class but good teacher
great teacher
Prof. Russinoff is great. She listens to students and does her best to help those who have trouble with Logic. She loves the course and the material and writes fair tests. DO THE HOMEWORK. READ THE BOOK. GO TO CLASS. HAVE FUN.
good teacher and good class. she makes hard material understandable.
Wonderful class. Prof. Russinoff keeps things entertaining (did you know that love is not a symmetric relation?) and explains things very clearly. Not easy, but if you read the book, do the problem sets, go to class, and ask questions, you should be fine. Math skills are a huge help.
Russinoff is a fabulous instructor. She has an incredible charisma which makes dry material interesting. Logic is by no means easy, but she is precise and clear in her lectures and makes herself readily available to students who need help. Do the problem sets, go to class, and don't be afraid to approach her. She makes lectures a joy to attend.
One of the best professors I have had at Tufts. She has a great sense of humor and keeps you engaged and focused on what could be a very boring topic. Tests are fair. The weekly problem sets take a while, but very doable. Russinoff is amazing - don't know what else to say.
This is a great course. You have to do the work, but you will learn a lot. The professor actually makes it fun.
This is a really useful course and it's fun. Not too hard. The professor is helpful and really knows this stuff. It helps you reason better and is useful in your other courses.
Great professor, mothered the whole class through a touch subject with an abundance of dry humor. Engaging, which is an accomplishment in the interesting but bone-dry Philosophy of Logic. Take this to get a math credit out of the way
Highly, HIGHLY recommended. Wonderful professor who is incredibly accessible - e-mail her and she'll e-mail you back almost instantly. Easy and straightforward class, easy A. Very interesting course, lets the students change the direction of the course based on interest. Useful skills. Take it for a fun credit!
I agree with the comments about this class, except I wouldn't say it's an easy A. I worked in this class and learned a lot. Great teacher! Fun class.
Russinoff is awesome. She really does make the material clear and understandable, although it is hard. If you can't handle it though...well maybe you should think twice about calling yourself "smart". Go to class, pay attention, read the book, do the hw, and it should be a positive experience for you.
I loved Phil1 with this professor. She was a great teacher and really fair. We had the chance to rewrite all our papers. Sounds like someone was really unhappy with a grade.
I learned a lot in this course. The professor really cares about the students understanding the material. Highly recommended. Challenging but fun course. Go to class and do the work.
She seems mean and sarcastic at first but actually turns out to be really awesome. Go to office hours, she will explain it until you get it and is nice about it. Class is great, but definitely not easy unless you are a math major.
She is amazing. really interesting, knows her stuff, great teacher
Professor Russinoff is so wonderfully sassy. Logic class with her is a lot of fun, even though it's pretty difficult. Everyone does badly on the exams so don't freak out.
She's very helpful and friendly. One of my more interesting classes yet.
Russinoff is my favorite professor at Tufts. I had no prior interest in the class, and almost dropped it after the first day, but i am so glad i stuck around. She is entertaining and it turned out to be an easy A
Hard grader but really wants you to focus on learning and the writing process. Not an easy A, but will work with you to rewrite your papers until you receive a good grade. Interesting teacher, awesome person
Although she was a great professor, this class is terrible if you know anything about Discrete math. If you're taking this class for an easy math credit, fine, but if you are a math-oriented person dear god stay away. It's phenomenally boring despite the profs great enthusiasm and teaching.
I loved this course and the professor somehow makes logic fun and interesting. It was hard but I learned a lot.
Great professor, very enthusiastic and knows her stuff. Not an easy class but you can do well if you work hard.
I found this class to be pretty easy. Prof Russinoff is very clear and the textbook lays out the material well. The TA's are also fantastic, and a large portion of the grade is problem sets, making getting an A very possible.
Best professor I've had at Tufts so far. Funny and an excellent teacher. The class isn't easy but it isn't impossible either.
Very helpful and sweet. Make sure to participate and she'll definitely give you other perspectives to consider
Pretty dry subject matter, but not the worst class you can take for your math credit or philosophy requirement. Russinoff is a great professor and always does her best to keep things interesting. She'll talk about her own life sometimes though, but it's always really cute, so it doesn't bother me. She's so hot too..
people come to fill major requirements or get out of math, but they stay for professor russinoff. She is funny, charming, and also very caring - I came to her office panicking one day, and since then, whenever i see her, she always greets me by name and asks me how i'm doing. she's also good at explaining difficult material and always available
Russinoff is amazing! Probably the best professor I've had thus far. She makes logic as clear as it could possibly be and is very accessible. She's also hilarious and made me want to come to class (even on a Friday).
She is so nice. So awesome. So funny.
She is one of the best professors I have ever had. Her classes are really funny but you learn a lot. She also knows half the class by name.
The material can be less-than-exciting at times, but Prof. Russinoff teaches it carefully. Definitely come to class.
She is such a funny and great teacher. She explains very difficult and otherwise tedious concepts in a funny and engaging way. But be warned though I LOVED her class, the class isn't for everyone, you may not love the content, though you will love her.
She is hilarious, very sweet and helpful. Going to her office hours always helped. Logic is not an easy class, but thanks to her it's not a hard one either. Unless you despise the material, you're probably going to have fun at her lectures. Amazing professor, very cool human
Professor Russinoff is great! She is very clear and makes an effort to learn your name (if you come to office hours). You MUST attend every lecture because a lot of the stuff she teaches is not in the book. Logic is not too hard, as long as you pay attention in class and put time and thought into the homework.
Russinoff is amazing! Anyone who can make a dry topic like Logic fun and interesting is an excellent teacher. She gives really clear examples while teaching and jokes around a lot with her students. Some concepts are difficult to understand, but she will ALWAYS meet with you outside of class to make sure you get it!
Really takes the time to get to know her students and not too hard to do well in if you do put in the effort
This is a practical philosophy class. I learned about arguments and logic and liked the group work. The professor is knowledgeable and fun.
She's a riot. Tests are killer. But overall smart, sophisticated, and interesting.
Russinoff is great! Definitely cares a lot and is super helpful, highly recommend taking her if possible.
Professor Russinoff is awesome. She is funny and, though logic is a big class, you can get to know her if you take the initiative. The tests are difficult, but the class gets easier late in the semester as most of the material is cumulative.
Good treatment of material. Very discussion-based class (great for Phil), but she knows when to step in to elevate the discussion or get us back on track. She can be superficially dismissive of out-there opinions, but that's really just her way of challenging your debating skills.
Passionate about the material, knowledgeable, and friendly.
Her lectures are way more helpful than the book, especially for PL. She really wants you to succeed. Sometimes she can be a bit condescending, and her tests are only 5 questions and very important, so 1 wrong could get you a B or C on the test. She is forgiving if you have one bad test grade, though. Overall, really funny, caring, and smart!
I absolutely LOVE professor Russinoff! She is the most caring teacher at Tufts. She is so intelligent and funny, and will really go the extra mile for you. Really a must take at Tufts. I have taken her for ethics bowl every year and her philosophy for children class.
One of the best Philosophy profs at Tufts. Runs basically everything in the department, but still has time to care about individual students. Not THE best lecturer, but pretty good, and she'll make sure you understand it. Consistent dry humor. Logic is hard, but Russinoff isn't. An essential class and teacher, no matter your major.
She is very scatterbrained but super passionate about logic. Staying awake in class can sometimes be hard and everything is cumulative so its important to stay on top of things. Her tests are either very easy or hard it's like if you get it day of you're good. The textbook can be found for free on libgen.
Prof. Russinoff is the best professor I've had at Tufts. She is an incredibly engaging lecturer with an unmatched grasp on the material and what it's like to be a student in her class. Also, if you don't understand something, she always has another way to explaining that helps. I'd highly recommend taking Logic (or any other course) with her.
Prof. Russinoff is a decent lecturer and does a pretty fine job of explaining topics in a difficult class. Beyond her lecturing capabilities, she is a rude person. I once saw her openly embarrass a student with a disability talking to her about test accommodations in front of several other students. She was also very arrogant during office hours.
Don't take this class. I took discrete math and this course is way harder than it should be. Not worth your effort or time. It glances over difficult concepts but doesn't explain it as well as discrete math does. Also, she uses vocab words all the time and they're not even useful; they're literally there to make things more confusing.
Took her class asynchronously spring sem. Straight forward class: pay attention, take notes, and do practice problems and you'll do fine. Prof. Russinoff does a fantastic job explaining complex topics and weird academic jargon. Super nice/caring, enjoys talking w her students. Not an easy class but still interesting. Textbook is on libgen
I loved Professor Russinoff and her Logic class. I took it asynchronously fall 2021 and signed up for Phil99 with her for Spring. She explains difficult concepts very well, is communicative and available for outside help. It is clear she cares about her students and wants them to be passionate about this topic. Grade based solely on weekly quizzes.
Despite asynchronous class, lectures were clear, straightforward. Grades solely depend on quiz every Friday. Quiz can be hard. Definitely do exercises on the textbook. Professor is approachable and considerate. She doesn't have a rigid cutoff for final grade. Do your best and you'll have a good grade.
Dr. Russinoff is an amazing instructor and wonderful person. She genuinely cares about her students. That said, this class is tough. You need to take good notes and do lots of practice problems to do well. Dr. Russinoff will provide help if you need it, so getting an A is possible, but very time consuming. Going to office hours was very helpful.
I took her class remotely during the 1st full pandemic semester, so this was a little extraordinary in circumstance, but she was kind of rude and disrespectful in office hours. As a marginalized student, I felt vulnerable and judged for my situation, and she asked invasive questions. I could tell she was trying to be personable, but it felt weird.
Russinoff is very intelligent and hilarious. She gets so invested in her logic lectures and if you engage at a high level, it's pretty easy to have fun with her. Class is not easy, however, and requires a lot of participation and includes weekly quizzes. Her fits are immaculate as well.
Really good class but definitely not an easy one. Prof Russinoff is really funny and a very engaging lecturer. You need to have thick skin if you want to participate, though. If you are wrong she kind of embarrasses you. She also dresses really well. Would definitely recommend.
Prof. R is very knowledgable and always explains concepts very clearly in my opinion. She makes learning Logic enjoyable, but does tend, without meaning to I think, single out students who ask confused questions. Logic as a topic is not easy, very conceptual, so do the practice problems. If you hate the numerical aspect of math, take this class!!!!
Professor Russinoff changed my Tufts experience. Take Logic, take Ethics Bowl, take anything you can with her. She's simply the best.
Class is actually really engaging, but you have to attend and listen closely to understand all the concepts. The entire grade is based on 12 quizzes, so attend lecture and study for the weekly quiz and you're good to go.
Ethics bowl is literally the best class. So much fun and so easy. Russinoff is really great too, very caring.
oh suzy. hilarious, great teacher, incredibly sharp thinker. she's super nice 1/2 the time, otherwise a bit abrasive, but it all came from care. i had a rlly easy time in logic, but most struggled for the A if they weren't passionate. logic has fantastic lessons for the student who reflects on and applies it, but not for the plug-n-chug student.
I found Prof. Russinoff rude and abrasive. She expects students to participate in her class but has little empathy and calls people out for asking questions. I disagree with comments describing her as "sophisticated". I think much of her humor is a defense mechanism. Quizzes were really hard in my opinion.
Professor Russinoff was not only extremely engaging, but she was extremely entertaining as well. It was clear how passionate she was about the topic, and how much she enjoyed teaching it! Also, she was fantastic at explaining concepts clearly. If I read the textbook before class and had questions, I would leave class with those questions answered.
Prof. Russinoff is passionate about logic, but not a great teacher. Explains concepts in roundabout ways and is critical of student input, to the point where I did not feel comfortable participating. I had a logic background and lectures made me more confused than when I started. Without prior knowledge would have definitely struggled in this class
Lecture is extremely important (do NOT skip!!) and pay careful attention as she gives hints to what is on the weekly quizzes. Not sure why this is a 4 credit class; spent less than 4-5 hours a week including time it took me to take the weekly quizzes. No strict grade cutoff. My quiz average was an A- but she gave me an A in the class.
I would've hated Logic if it weren't for Professor Russinoff. She's amazing and wants her students to succeed. You're only graded on 13 quizzes and there is no midterm or final which is nice. Also, she tends to bump your grade if you go to office hours/show that you care. Overall, a great professor who is super passionate about Logic/her students.
Prof Russinoff is phenomenal. When I had covid she sent me lectures and met with me to answer my questions, as well as accounted for my illness on the quiz. I will say that she doesn't always make it easy to participate, but she really appreciates it when you do. Her teaching comes with many tangents and complications, but I liked that.
Absolute genius with a way of teaching material that keeps you engaged in every lecture (you fall behind if not), so personable and clearly passionate about logic and wants students to succeed. Presents harder examples in class with weekly quizzes covering slightly simpler problems. Get to know her in office hours! Favorite professor yet at Tufts.
Professor was not bad, but Logic genuinely sucks. If you're looking for an "easy" math credit DO NOT take this class.
Awesome elective course. I love ethics bowl. Prof Russinoff is great and very knowledgable.
Ethics bowl is mostly taught by TAs and Professor Russinoff chimes in occasionally. Very fun.
Philosophy for Children. This class was so much fun! first half you read about how to teach different areas of phil, then second half you write lesson plans and teach with a small group at eliot-pearson. Not at all hard, but it's good to have some phil background. Class is mostly discussing the readings or lesson plans.
I took this course Pass/Fail, it was honestly super interesting even as a non-philosophy major, the class was taught primarily by TA's but professor Russinoff was super accessible and clearly highly interested in the material that was being taught as well as interested in your success in class.
The material of the course is very confusing and while there is no homework if you want to do well on the quizzes you must do practice problems and read the textbook. No final exam, but your whole grade is weekly quizzes. She is a nice prof and great to talk to outside of class. Also very funny in lectures.
pretty good lecturer, makes a boring topic kind of fun. Final grade is composed completely of a set of 10 quizzes, taken asynchronously on every Friday. Not very clear when one section ends and the next one begins. It's definitely possible to pass by reading the textbook, but things get very confusing very quickly, so lecture is highly recommended.
She is a super rude and harsh teacher. Makes many rude comments to the class and does not make the class a welcoming place. Grading is all done by TA's and is hard. Not an easy way to get out of math at Tufts.
She is a great professor and very knowledgeable. However, the logic course made no sense no matter how much she lectured and new rules kept popping up. Every week on Friday there would be a quiz and every mistake is graded harshly by TAs. NOT AN EASY MATH COURSE (despite what everyone says), so only take it you're interested in this kind of math.
While I didn't find logic particularly interesting, it was a good class to take for a math credit without having to do classic math. Russinoff was what made me want to come to class. She's just a quirky old lady with funny anecdotes that are totally unrelated but welcome. Sometimes struggles to understand your questions in class.
NOT AN EASY CLASS! Be prepared for harsh grading! If you are OK with that -- it's a very good class. Don't be mislead though.
Susan Russinoff is my favorite professor at Tufts. She's an interesting lecturer and cares about her students a lot. I've taken logic and philosophy for children with her and have thoroughly enjoyed both of them. If you put in effort you will do well.
