Dr. Ryan was one of the best professors I had down here. She demands that you become an individual learner, she will not spoon feed you. She is very helpful. I would recomend her!

Dr. Ryan has been one of the most helpful professors. Furthermore, whatever class Dr. Ryan is teaching one should take. I have learned so muh and enjoyed every minute I have spent in her class. We are very lucky to have her at our University.

this has to be the only prof who has ever been tricked to belive that one of her students was arrested while doing an assignment, and picked up the phone to try and bail him out. very funny practical joke, ask her about it!

Simply the best. She cracks hilarious jokes. Some about drinking. Who cares? They'd be funny even if she was 100 years old. Actually, people who want to have boring profs that don't care about their students r pathetic.

Expects a lot from her students but nothing more than what they should expect from themselves. Great prof with just as good of a sense of humor. Highly recommended.

Self-involved? I guess as a narcissus you would expect the class to be all about you. Prof. Ryan relates personal examples to what she's teaching instead of making us read tons of boring stuff. Best prof I ever had at Cal.

Awesome Teacher, Down to earth...She'll help you out as long as your hard working and don't miss too much class or sleep through class. She's funny and she keeps you interested. You can also use all your notes for the tests, which is always nice.

Very self-absorbed and stuck on herself, which was evident even on the first day when she took like 10 minutes to talk about herself when she should have been discussing the syllabus. Looks at you like you have sprouted a second if you dare ask a question on the notes. Avoid if possible.

I agree with you-Dr. Ryan is the best professor. However before you blast other faculty in the department you should check their numbers. I mean Dr. Wickham has over 100 students and he does a great job of making it feel like a class of 20.If you had a class with him that was less than 20 you would see he does not lecture as much. Its the numbers.

That's called "Academics" and that is what University is about. Dr.Ryan is great and I enjoy her class.

Phenomenal Professor! Dr. Ryan is working so hard for her students that I think it goes unnoticed by most people. She takes time out of her busy day to help sell Pizza to raise money for the student Travel Club. Her door is always open for help if you ask for it. No regrets at all taking her class. I look forward to more.

No notes, no homework... but hard test

Challenging but fair. Unfair final? Take your head out of sphincter and go to class once in a while. Like Prof Ryan said, half the questions were from those chapter reviews. It was open books. She still curved the grades and offered bonuses. Notes are all online. She knows her stuff and makes it seem easy. Great professor.

I think it is pathetic and absolutely childish for people to actually post that Dr. Ryan is unfair or hard. What more can she possibly do? This isn’t kindergarten. I also find it very amusing that someone would actually confuse admiration and defense of a quality professor with being a “kiss ass”…that person is obviously very…cough…mature. Grow up!

I agree 100% with the last poster. You people that post negative feedback about Dr. Ryan here are just pissed off that you didn’t get a good mark because YOU did NOT do the work. Did you do the review questions? Ya, I though not. So you got a bad mark or so you had a little stress in your life...deal with it and don’t take it out on her. She rocks.

Ah yes, the maturity level of some of the students I attend classes with is really showing through. Crying and moaning about tests, exams, and papers. Give me a break. You reap what you sow and if you don’t do the work in Professor Ryan’s class then you won’t get the marks. That’s life get over it. Good luck complaining to your boss about the workl

Cool Prof. Easy to get along with, and I found her very fair. I don't know why people would say that she isn't fair. She really will go out of her way to help u if u ask for it or take the time. i look forward to taking more classes with her. Just by talking to people in the Tourism pgm, almost all of them really like her. Very hard working. A+

Earth science has prof's unlike others. Ryan, Wickam, Mueller, Mitchem some of the best I have had in the past 3 years. Ryans classes are not a cake-walk but I studied and did the essentials and got an "A". Life is not easy, grow up and realize mommy and daddy cannot always do your work for you. Dr. Ryan is a great proffessor!!!!

I agree,Dr. Ryan is fantastic! She will do whatever it takes to help you out. She goes above and beyond fair. She is so excited about Tourism and Academics, that some people confuse that passion with being "into herself". Passion and arrogance are two very different things! The grade you get in her class is proportional to the work YOU put in!

Dr. Ryan is way cool. I have enjoyed her classes so far and I would recommend her to anyone. Tourism is really fun and she brings real life experiences to her classes. She works so hard for her students, not only in the lectures, but her office is always open for extra help if you need it, and she works just as hard as the students in fund raising.

Inconceivable commitment to her students. I learned. It was fun. I screwed up. It was not fun. She got it. I graduated only because she believed in me.

As a new student to Cal, I thought Dr. Ryan was fantastic! I am really considering transferring into her Major as she seems like a great person, very helpful, and really seems to enjoy her job, her students and Cal. If she is this good in first year seminar then I can’t imagine how great she must be in Tourism. I'd recommend taking her classes!

I think she is a really great Prof and despite what some people seem to think, she is very fair. You get out of her class what you put in. I also don’t know how a persons looks has any relevance on how good a Prof they are? I think if a person judges a Prof on their looks, then that person seriously needs to grow up,and look in the mirror perhaps!

The material doesn't really interest me, but Dr. Ryan is a great teacher. She gets through the notes quickly and usually lets the class out 15 minutes early.

Dr. Ryan is a good instructor and very professional. While the class is presented in a lecture format, student performance is, for the most part, evaluated through research projects. Online weekly quizzes covering chapters in the text are also part of the grade. Traditional examinations are not part of the course.

I enjoy having Dr. Ryan as a professor. She cares alot about her students and is frequently available to ask questions and just discuss any problems or concerns you have. This is a professor that you can talk to as a person, she is not intimidating or judgemental. I would recommend her for a class.

Dr. Ryan really is a great Professor! I don't know why some people here say she picks on students. She jokes around and has some fun with students who are regular attendees and they know that. Honestly, I'd take a class with her over some of the other Professors who just give you grades! At least with Dr. Ryan you EARN it unlike Dr. Mueller!

You can tell Dr Ryan really cares about students sucess. I like how she hands out detailed assignment sheets so you know what she wants. She treats people like adults and not children which I respect. She is also very interested in the sucess of the major and is really good at what she does. Attend regularly and do the work and an A should be easy

Dr. Ryan is a great teached. Although sometimes I got frustrated with some of her classes, she really does push every student to be the best. She is always willing to meet with you if you need help, even outside of her office hours. Dr. Ryan is not only a great teacher, but a very nice lady who knows how to put some humor in a classroom.

Without a doubt you will learn and get your money's worth with Dr. Ryan! Other Professors in this Dept do the minimum to get by (and cancel classes a lot...like Dr. Mueller does!) Dr. Ryan actually teaches and you learn. If you show up, do the work, put in the effort, then you will be rewarded. Awesome and highly recommended.

Dr. Ryan is my favorite teacher at Cal. I have never had a problem with her, as long as you are attentive, ask questions and go to class; you will pass with flying colors. All of her classes are online and are easy if you pay attention in class.

If you want to be intellectually challenged then take her classes. Non-majors just looking for easy credits beware, she is not an easy A. You will learn a lot. Don't worry about being ridiculed, I have never seen her be rude to anyone before like some posts say.

Shes an ok teacher. She definitely seems to like to hear herself talk. Lectures can be long but she keeps them interesting.

She has been very helpful and she is a very educated women that has taught me for years. All of these reviews have been the exact opposite of my experience. I have had Dr. Ryan for many classes now. She is very thorough, and although she has a knack of making students feel stupid when they ask a question, its because her instructions were so detailed that the answer was definitely included. Very knowledgeable teacher who genuinely wants the best for her students.
