adjunct teachers need love too!! mrs satterfield is fun, funny, and all in all a perfect teacher for a first semester. she is really a published sci-fi writer, and is honest and open with her students. whats sad is when the adj that are better that full timers dont get enough classes when they rock!
Great teacher...always there for her students...if you didnt score to high on a paper she would let you redo it and she told you what needed to be fixed.A+++++ teacher
Saterfield is the most amazing teacher I have had yet at this college. She is a great teacher and a great person. She is always willing to help any students that are having a hard time and she never makes you feel stupie. Longview should look into hiring more teachers like her. Ones that actually know what they are doing.
The best teacher i have taken at longview so far. Very Helpful, really wants you to learn. i recommend her to anyone.
She gives a lot of work but she's really cool. She's also very understanding when you don't have your work done on time. She's a huge science fiction fan (she writes it) so she can be a little out there sometimes.
This instructor is awesome. She is very helpful and totally understanding. She really wants you to learn and she supports that by giving excellent, detailed feedback. The class does require a lot of writing but that is probably across the board, not just hers.
This teacher is awesome; lots of fun and really knows her stuff. In addition to writing essays and reading stories and essays; she teaches grammar. At first you might think it's wierd taking grammar in college, but it's actually great. I got an A and am taking her again for ENGL 102.
She is very helpful and understanding
Teacher is very helpful and when you don't know what you are doing she is there to help. If you get a bad grade she will let you redo you assignment. How many teachers do that? TAKE HER CLASS!
The BEST! Take her for all your English needs!
Amazing teacher!!! Would take any of her classes. Very organized and cares deeply about her students. Always willing to help and goes the extra mile for any person. Both my husband and I took her class and LOVED IT. I am not a writer nor do I like english that much but she made it interesting and enjoyable.
very laid back and flexible
Susan takes pride in her work and is genuinely interested in her students success. She shows enthusiasm for the work of students and even gets to know everyone's name. Teachers like Susan make college education a delight.
Took this class online....she is very kind, but assigns A LOT more work than other teachers...A LOT MORE! I know 2 other people that have taking this class with other instructors and they had half the workload! So while she is nice and understanding...be ready to work your tail off!
She was a very interesting teacher. She was helpful and easy going about deadlines but to really get the most from the class you have to like sci-fi, she's very into that.Grading wise she's fair but she also knows her stuff because she's a published author. The class was a lot of fun and I learned alot (grammatically) be precise.
very laid back, easy to talk to. very happy with this english class.
She was an awesome teacher! Interesting and super helpful! It was very easy to get an A in this class. I definitely recommend her!
Susan is a very helpful teacher. Turn in assginments and you will pass the class. She is very easy to talk to and gives out her home phone number in case you need anything. A bit strange when it comes to sci-fi! but a fun teacher
Took this class online. She took forever to grade assignments. Rarely emailed back on questions. I could never catch her on the phone to ask her a question. A lot of work was required for this class, but it was a 8 week class. Homework was easy. Had to maintain blog, which took a lot of work. Overall, I liked class and got an A.
If you are creative and like writing, she is perfect. She allows plenty of flexibility on essay choices. Also she is very lenient if you accidentally miss a deadline. She also tries to make the class feel like a community and creates time for casual discussions.
She is lenient if you miss a deadline. She is a published sci-fi author and encourages you to write in first person.
This was an 8 week class, and I honestly wish it would have been longer. I liked her a lot. I'm not particularly interested/good in English, but she made it enjoyable. She is a very fair grader, and a good person to have interesting conversations with. YOU WANT HER FOR A TEACHER.
This was a fairly easy English class. Ms. Satterfield allows her students to write on a wide variety of topics, which I liked alot. He class isn't hard, but she was behind on grading all semester. I took this class online and really enjoyed it! Ms. Satterfield is extremely helpful and wants to see her students succeed.
I took English 101 and 102 online with Sattefield. I would recommend her to anyone. She is fun, nice, and understanding. Sometimes she gets behind on grading but she catches up fast. She also sometimes gives alot of task at once, but they are easy. Other weeks you may have one assignment. She lets you be yourself in some assignents.
Susan is a very nice person, however the beginning of the class was very difficult for all students. She hadn't updated blackboard from her prior class so we were all confused. Her directions were all over the place. She is an easy grader. The class was much better after about 3 weeks. I would recommend her, very easy!
Love her! She is so sweet and makes people WANT to come to class.
She is so sweet and makes people WANT to come to class.
She makes people actually WANT to come to class.
I took a hybrid course, where everything was pretty much turned in online and we did all our tests/quizzes online and only met twice a week. This teacher is super nice, accepts late work for full credit, and works with you if you have a problem. She's great. Love her.
Mrs. Satterfield is such a great teacher. She is very engaged with the students through their writings and always has positive feedback. You spend most of the class doing your own thing, and meeting with your critique group. If you love to write, and turn things in on time, you'll definitely get an A!
Mrs. Satterfield is great. She is very helpful and responds to emails quickly. She does require an older version of MLA to be used for your papers, so make sure you know the correct format she wants you to use or she will deduct points. It's a good class with a good teacher.
This class would be OK if taken in-person. The blackboard is confusing with content scattered all over the place, most of which is reused from a Spring semester with the original dates in place. The modules are unclear and grading is ALWAYS behind. Avoid this instructor, or take her class at a campus; it's not worth the headache to take it online.
Satterfield was the best teacher I've ever had. she's the sweetest lady ever and she really cares about the students. she brings snacks and treats for the class on occasion and accepts late work for full credit. there is only 2 tests and they are very easy if you study. overall I loved her.
LOVE. HER. She's precious. She's so loving and caring to all her students. She will go above and beyond to help you. Loved this class.
I took English 102 online class and I loved it!! She is creative, fun and helpful. I definitely recommend this teacher, and Hawkes Learning System is easy to work with and helpful. I absolutely loved this class.
She's probably one of the best teachers I've had and hands down the best one I've had at Longview. I wish she taught more of my required courses!
8 wks-3 essays. If you are okay with essays, this is a super easy class. Able to work ahead, so I was able to finish early. All essays require peer edits. Only issue with her is that she was ill for a while and nothing was graded for weeks, but then she caught up like crazy once she was back. Great feedback, would take again.
Quite an excellent instructor. She chooses the best books. She is a writer herself so her expertise as a literature professor adds an extra edge to her teaching.
Great teacher.
Really fun teacher. She loves Zombies, if you do too she is the perfect teacher for you. I love that she has 8 week classes. Would absolutely take her again!
Mrs. Satterfield is an awesome teacher!! She's quirky, hilarious, and super sweet! Very helpful as well. Would definitely take this class - or another class - again with her!! Work hard on your papers and you will pass! Tests and quizzes are super easy.
Prof. Satterfield is one of the best instructors I've ever had! I would recommend her to everyone, and if I had any more ENG courses I would definitely take her again. Also, she gives great feedback! The 8 week course is intense, but as long as you work hard it's very possible to get an A. LOVED this class!
This is the easiest class I have taken yet. She is very flexible on due dates for assignments and literally gives you the answers for your mid-term and final ( she puts the test on the projector so you can write down the answers the day before.) She is a fairly easy grader. She does get off topic a lot but is a really nice person.
Outstanding! That's the best way to describe her. I would take her in every English course she offers. You will not be disappointed. She's a very passionate instructor. She keeps the class discussions fun. Her study guides clearly outlines what the exams will cover. CLEARLY! She's very open to topics you may want to write about on assignments.
I absolutely love Susan. She's extremely helpful and willing to work with her students if problems arise. She's super funny, sweet, and really cares about her students. I've taken every class she teaches just because I love having her as a teacher. If you need an English class, you should definitely take her.
Mrs. Satterfield is such an awesome, understanding, and intelligent professor. She was willing to help with detailed instructions and even willing to be contacted about assignments. I would definitely recommend this teacher!
Failed to grade every assignment until after the grades were even due. Grades posted online did not reflect the final grades. The tests had TONS of wrong answers, that were never corrected.
I absolutely LOVED Mrs. Satterfield!!! I had for English 101 and I also have her for Eng 102. She's very inspirational, loves fantasy and horror stuff, and she also writes books. She's very easygoing, isn't strict about when to turn in papers and her class is easy. She indeed deserves a 5 star rating!
Love Mrs Satterfield! She is very helpful if you have to miss class and is very understanding.
She is by far a great professor. Easy A/B. You can pass the class with just simply doing your work. She does respond well to emails and I also had to chance to call her on the phone and she was ok with that. Very helpful!
I love Susan Satterfield. This class has taught me a lot! I took the online 8 week course and I thought it would be hard and I was wrong. She response to email and the assignments are pretty straight forward. By far the best instructor. I would definitely take this class as it is very easy! Go with her!
She is probably the best professor at MCC-Longview. I had her for all of the English courses I was required to take for my degree. You write 4-5 papers a semester per class. She did have pop-up quizzes occasionally, but there were not bad. She is super easy to get along with as long as you participate in class and do your homework.
I took the hybrid class. Ms. Satterfield is my favorite professor at Longview. She is so kind and caring and as a wannabe writer, her aspiration for creative writing is helpful. I cannot wait to take ENGL 102, ENGL 201 and (hopefully) ENGL 240 with her next fall. My only complaint is the classes don't go over much that the weekly modules don't.
One of my top 3 professors no doubt! I've had her for all of my English and Lit classes, she is amazing! She is extremely caring, inspiration, easy grader and will help you out even if you are not a great writer. Highly recommend! She's a huge sci fi and zombie fan, and also writes short horror stories. Homework/papers are easy, you will pass!
Prof. Satterfield is so nice. I took ENG101 with her in the fall in person and her 102 online class this semester. For both semesters, if you turn things in on time and put in effort, you'll get an A. She's always quick to reply to emails and is willing to work with you for extra help or anything.
Prof. Satterfield is the nicest person ever. She helped with the very basics in case any of the class (read: me) missed any small detail in high school. The papers are a breeze as she cares solely about your english and not pushing an agenda. The midterm and final? She literally shows you the answers in class! Wish I was still @ Longview for 102!
She's awesome. Gives extra credit opportunities. Relaxed during class. Does not care as long as you get essays done. Usually have to blog every week for a couple months to prepare for a report. They are not strictly graded, like a set of rough drafts. Huge range of essay topics to choose. Citation is important. You can do HW during class. ;)
Hybrid course. Clear expectations. Interesting lectures. Easy to approach.
Best teacher I have ever had, understanding and a leniant grader, she gives you time to fix your mistakes. If you don't correct your same mistakes you keep making however points will be docked, but she gives plenty of time to correct the mistakes. Very funny makes class fun to attend and as along as you do the work It's a fun and easy class.
She has to be the nicest teacher I've ever had. She is very lenient on grading, but you always know how to improve so it is still effective. Lots of extra credit. She is easy to talk to. My only complaint is that the lectures can be a little boring as they are straight from PowerPoint and there is little room for back and forth participation.
Professor Satterfield is a great lady! She cares and grades so clear especially if you are not a talented writer. Her class is so organized and she is super understanding and flexible if you let her know. She likes to go off topic a lot during lecture so the classs goes by fairly quick. Would definitely take her again!
Professor Satterfield is very knowledgable on her subject. This course was basically just a review of everything I learned in High school, so nothing new was presented. I enjoyed the formatting of the course and I am happy that I got Prof. Satterfield. If you need to take ENG101, take it with this professor!
I have never been great at English, and I feared it for a longtime, but after taking professor Satterfield my English fear went away. She was very helpful, and her feedback was amazing, because I was able to fix mistakes which help me in the class. I believe she is one of the best online teachers I have ever taken.
Very nice and understandable. She is very fair on how she grades. Highly recommended!
Cares about the students and genuinely wants them to improve. She realizes everyone in English is not going for an English major unlike many professors I have had.
I took ENGL102 online. She is very organized and has clear directions. She graded things timely and gave good feedback. She opened the next assignments early which allowed for better time management. The syllabus was clear that you needed to complete all work to obtain enough points for an A. This was one of the best online classes I have taken!
Professor Satterfield is one of the best English professors I have ever had. I highly recommend taking her for reading and composition II. The course is self-paced with set due dates, which is awesome for planning reasons.
As someone who typically dreads English class- she's best English professor I've ever had! She's such a sweet person and cares for all of her students, gives great feedback on assignments, and has very thorough guidelines and due dates for all of her assignments. You'll pass as long as you put clear effort in your essays.
She gives excellent feedback. Grading is very specific but her intent is for improvment. She is caring and cares for her students. She is very easy to talk to. We do workshops and readings. A good amount of papers. I recommend this wonderful professor.
Very kind teacher. She cares about each of her students and wants everybody to do their best. I've learned a lot from her. Grateful I got her for my first year in college.
I have never been the biggest English fan but Mrs. Satterfield taught me how to enjoy the subject! Her classes are very informative. She gives AMAZING feedback on your papers as well. She genuinely cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. As long as you keep up with readings and work, you will do fine.
Susan is a very great professor, she cares about her students a lot. She does give out 3 big papers to do and she can be a tough grader on that. However, do not worry since those papers are cushioned with small point assignments. She also accepts late work if you just contact her. She is super helpful and responds to email very quickly.
Id love to have another class with her. Shes easy and caring of students. Just let het know if you have something that pops up and email her about it. Its mostly essays you have to worry about, use your time wisely when it comes to more than one assignment a week.
Loved this professor! She cared about her students. Anytime I had a question about an essay and would email her, I would hear back within a few hours. She was so much help, and happy to explain whatever you don't understand. If you fail her class, that's on you. She is the kindest and most helpful professor I have had experience with thus far.
Great professor. Very responsive via email/message and offers helpful feedback. Provided numerous online resources that corresponded with assignments. Decent amount of work but nothing too hard or overwhelming. Four essays total throughout semester. Only used textbook for a couple DB assignments. Definitely would take this professor again.
She was very organized and all assignments were clear. A little tough on grading, but I felt it was a well deserved grade that was given. The weekly units were helpful and relevant to the course. She responds to messages fairly quickly and if you have a question she will help. Very helpful and doesn't take too long to grade submitted assignments.
She is an extremely kind professor. 4 papers and weekly blog posts (if you do them you will barely have to write the last research paper) I wasn't very confident in my writing skills before I started this class, but she gave me the confidence I needed. She spends time with each student to give feedback on drafts. Classes can be boring however
Really, really nice professor that gives good feedback! She makes every class fun and makes sure that everybody understands the material. Definitely would take her again.
Nicest professor I've ever been in class with - she is so helpful and grades easily with good feedback. Sometimes classes were just watching YouTube videos, so it could definitely be a bit boring at times, but it's definitely better than doing a ton of coursework. I highly recommend her!
She literally has waited until the last week to grade 600/800 points in the class, and said she would let me revise some work, then never responded her messages.
Doesn't grade.
Great English professor! Highly recommend her class for 101. Posts a lot of information on Blackboard/Canvas which seems overwhelming, but you will be glad those resources are there if you ever need them.
Professor Satterfield is awesome. This class was a breeze, but I am also very good at writing so maybe it's just me. She's super responsive and always available to help. She has a great sense of humor as well! I wish I had to take more English courses just to have her again.
Satterfield is one of the most patient and sweet souled school teachers I've met here. Her classes are almost scripted, but her engagement with you is regular, and she's all about individuality. However, her critical review is not audible and instead is limited to a hand written comment or two on an assignment. I appreciated her guidance/words.
This professor is very sweet, but she hasn't graded anything all semester. This includes two essays, a quiz, and a midterm. Class consists of her reading off of a paper nobody can see and YouTube videos. No slideshows, and even after asking twice, she won't upload her notes to Canvas for us to see what she is talking about during the entire class.
Great professor! She is very understanding and caring. If you need an extension on work, she will give it to you if you explain the reason. Was not able to do discussion board a couple weeks and she gave me extra credit to make up points but I had to ask for it. Takes a while to grade work. Gives good feedback on work.
She is super nice and an easy grader. But she does have pretty boring lectures that don't really help you on your essays. She also gets deadlines confused so have your paper done before the deadline in case she changes it. She gives answers for midterm and final.
I took her for creative writing and she's super sweet and an easy grader so if you just do the work you'll get by fine. There's not a whole lot of structure like there are a few big assignments but they're all due at the end of the semester so they're easy to forget about. You do also share your work with a few students in a group.
I took ENGL 202; you submit more work than the 201 students. (Ex: 15 poems instead of 10.) Satterfield is a sweet professor, but the class had no structure, and the dates were messed up in Canvas. You must keep track of your work so you don't forget to turn in something for the final portfolio. You get points for attending class, so show up!
Very good class if you like to write, but be aware that everything you write for the class is due on the same day (except for one assignment) and you won't receive a grade until then.
She makes you watch videos or reads from a paper of information that isn't really needed for the entire class period. She says you need a book for this class but I didn't use mine at all. Grades do not come back in a timely manner. She is very overly outspoken with her political views to the point of discomfort for some students.
Susan is nice and friendly. She talks a lot and there is a textbook but she doesn't go over it. She gives good advice but I see that people have trouble understanding what she is expecting. She's not doing too well health wise and she's behind on grading and she struggles with technology. The dates on canvas are always wrong and need to be updated
