Very nice professor and gives extra credit, but really explains poorly and rushes. To me it seems like the teacher assumes you already know the material. Tests aren't, its just difficult when the professor doenst explain the content in class very well. Also makes a lot of errors in explain, which makes me even more confused
It is true, she does go very fast during lecture, which to the right person isn't bad. Because she quickly goes over the material, there's a big chunk of time dedicated at the end for group/column problems, which further solidifies your conception of the material. Do the HW and study the study guide, and you should be good to go for the tests.
She does not check attendance. But if you come to class: Extra credits - there you go! Her exams are based on the review. Thus, it is not hard to get an A. I got more than 100 on all of her tests! If you love math and want challenging, take someone else. If you just want to get an easy A, take her!
You need my math lab for your textbook which is where you do all your homework and quizzes. The test is very similar to the study guide and has the same questions that are on your homework/quizzes. She gives out bonus points for group work and if you have an A in the class, you don't need to take the final; its optional.
Sherry is inspirational. She's such a role model. Homework is way harder than class, but each HW problem comes with a detailed example. Class is amazing, she can rush sometimes but that's bc she knows it can get boring if she drones on. She always stops to answer questions. She knows Calculus very well, and makes the subject approachable.
1. You don't need to buy textbook. 2. easy and helpful 3. gives you more chances 4. best professor ever
She is one of the best math professor I have taken so far. She helps you and explains things super well. Professor Sherry wants you to pass and is willing to help. She does go a bit fast, but I was still been able to understand. Take her! Even if you are a math person or not, I was not a math person, but been able to learn math!
Amazing Teacher. Mini group work every class for extra credit points. Clear cut tests with 10 questions. Easy to follow.
honestly, please do yourself a favor and don't take this woman. She expects her students to know everything in a very short amount of time. Had a total of 7 tests and 1 cumulative test. She talks like she is talking to herself not to students so you will end up going home and teaching yourself. Unless you know calculus 100% don't take her.
This was a great class, I tried it before with a different professor & was lost. She is a great instructor and gives good reviews before tests.
She was a very good teacher. I never thought I could learn calculus because I'm not great in Math. But I made I through this class!
She's such a sweet women and she's very intelligent and passionate about teaching. I strongly recommend taking her class. She gives bonus points during lectures, so make sure you show up! Tests are easy; she gives plenty of opportunities to learn the material in class.
She is very sweet and is willing to help if you are having trouble. The homework and test are very similar. Just make sure you keep up with everything and you will do just fine. I recommend you take her!!!
She is a amazing professor. Gives a lot of examples so that you can understand the material plus the HW. She is always willing to help you. Gives bonus points for group work. There are four test and a final. The lowest test is dropped. She made calculus easy. She dose go fast sometimes but just ask if you have a question.
She is an excellent professor. Class might not be that easy, but she is pretty clear. She gives lots of handouts, which are pretty helpful. There's no need of book. Also, her tests are pretty straight forward, and the test reviews are really helpful. DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE IN THE CLASS OR GET READY FOR THE PUNISHMENT.
Prof. Sherry is absolutely amazing I love her so much she gives mandatory XC almost every class and not that much homework due at every exam, plus you can drop an exam and if your exams are higher than a 95 you don't have to take the final. Definitely would take her again, super sweet and kind. Enforces a no phone policy.
I am not a natural mathematician, but I did pretty well with Ms. Sherry. She will help you and is very timely and consistent. There is a bit of in class work that will ultimately help you, but you must go to class. I liked her a lot.
Prof. Sherry is the best professor at NOVA. Her class was a piece of cake in comparison to precalc at NOVA. She gives 4 tests and a final with extra credit and drops the lowest test grade. She will help you if you need help, I strongly recommend her class to anyone who wants to learn calc and get an A.
One of the BEST professors so far. Tests are easy as she tells the pattern of the questions that's gonna come. Homework is not too hard as you can see examples clearly in MyMathLab. Get 95 in the tests and no final for you!!
Calc was a very hard subject for me but she was an amazing professor. I definitely wouldn't have passed if I had any other professor because she tells you exactly what each test is on.
I took her for MTH 271 and she was super fast. Math is tough, her class was tough, I thought the exams were tough. There were those few kids who couldn't keep up with her speed, but makes up for it by the huge amounts of HW she gives you. I most likely have to take it again in the Summer. I'd recommend her only if you're decent in math, I wasn't
This Professor was great! She would give out review worksheets after every class. The exams are exactly the same as the homework and review questions. She was one of the best professors I've had.
Mediocre professor. You have to do work hard to get an A, she goes pretty fast so you have to keep up with her. Personally, i don't think she cares enough about her students. I had to miss a test because of a family matter and there was absolutely no way of me taking that test at that hour. That test ended up being dropped which sucked. Thanks
She is a very good teacher if you put an honest effort (do the homework the way its supposed and not just filling something out). She drops the worst test grade. She is extremely clear on how to do things.
Prof Sherry is supremely patient and responds well to callouts during lecture for clarification. Tests are kinda-sorta curved, in that everyone gets the same number of extra points added (between 3 and 6 in my section). SO MANY HANDOUTS. She'll tell you *exactly* what's going to be on the exams. No quizzes, but a smattering of in-class graded work.
Honestly dont reccomend her if you arent great at math. She tends to skip up to 6 steps and acts like its ok. Gets a little sassy when asked questions and if your shy this class isnt for you. She will ask questions one student at a time infront of the whole class so be right. Isnt approachable and never in her office. Goes thru lecture too fast
She is very sweet. Won't really spend time with one on one help, so get ready for a tutor in her class. She tends to go thru material pretty quickly. Attendance is mandatory as you will have group work that count as extra credit. She offers study guides right before exams. Not all of that material will be on exam, so need to really study handouts.
an absolutely amazing lady and professor. she has a very particular style of teaching, and she's been apparently doing it for a long time; get familiar with her style quick, do the HW, and you'll get your A. I took the summer 6 weeks course, tough, intense, but she made it enjoyable..
Nice lady. Inconsistent, fast test grading, so show all ur work & dispute what u think should've been correct; sometimes gives points back if she missed something. Doesn't mind questions; will stay after to help. Uses MyMathLab which includes .pdf of textbook. LOTS of HW. Tests are long; be fast! Drops lowest grade. Expects solid Algebra skills.
She is a very nice teacher, if you wanna get A, just be effort, and take time on your homework, then you will be good on your test. Her test is easy, but your final grades just depend on four unit test, a final test and all your homework. But I love her so much! you don't need to take the final, if you done will on your each unit test, like me.
I'll say one of the best 173 professor at NOVA. She can go fast on lectures but you won't be totally lost. The Homework is easy to flow and she gives extra credit for group work. She's also gives a review before each exam. She's caring and she will help you if you are confused or stuck.
4 tests are pretty easy, if u are good at those 4 tests, u don't need to take final exam. A lot of extra credit opportunity. She was an amazing professor although her lecture is a little bit fast.
Best teacher ever
The best professor I ever had
Prof Sherry is great. She is such a sweet person and is really caring. She moves through the lectures efficiently but always gives the class a copy of the pp slides before each lecture. She gives anywhere 40 - 70 problems on mymathlab for hw per every 2 sections of a chapter. It is a lot of questions but you have a lot of time to complete them.
I recommend taking Professor Sherry class because It's an easy A. She taught very well and help each student with the problems they needed for the test. All her homework and quizzes are taken online so if you get the answer wrong you can try again as many times until you get an 100%.
This professor is the best math teacher I have ever taken. she is so willing to help anyone. even if you are bad at math, you can still get an A. I love math and she made it 1000% easy for me. she gives papers every class. make sure you know where you keep them because you will need all of them for the final. she is just amazing. take her no regret
She was a great professor! I am a slow learner and math isnt my forte, but I leaerned a lot in this class and got decent grades. I am gonna take her again next semester because I has personal issues resulting in me not passing the course. Anyway, her tests are exactly like the study guide and she is very chill. She is soooo strict with cell phones.
She's the best ever
She's the best
I have taken this Professor for MTH 166 and MTH 173 and I have to say she is by far the best math teacher I have ever taken. This professor makes sure that the students understand and do her very best to help you, but only of you ask. She is so sweet and it sucks that I won't be able to study MTH 174 with her, I would definitely recommend her.
Best math prof at Nova so far, it was super easy A. Attendance is required. Lots of extra credit if u stay in group work which u can even sit and dont do anything. HW and Final are on Mymathlab which u can do hundred times to get good grade. She gives out study guide which is 97% the same for each chapter tests. 4 tests 1 final, drop 1 low test.
It's the first week of college so far I don't like her. My opinions could change but for now, i don't. Why she is confusing, all we do in class is learn from the desk tops she doesn't teach us. Please if you're shy or not as good math don't take her classes. I regret picking her as my teacher.
Prof. is not accesible outside class, she made sure to tell us she has more than 200 students and she doesnt have time for questions. Her lectures are monotone and really fast paced. Be ready to teach yourself, 4 exams, 10 points extra credits. Take richard semmler instead
Great Professor. 6 tests + 1 Final (1 test per chapter, which is amazing). She lets you drop one of the tests, but not the final. Gives study guides for each test, which are replicable to the actual thing. 4-5 Extra credit points every test, which is based on your class attendance. Makes the class enjoyable by making us do group work.
I really liked the way Professor Sherry taught Calculus I and how she made the concepts really easy to comprehend. Every Class, you will be given like two or packets that go in detail for the topics she lectures on. Also, the tests are exactly identical to the review, so study the review and notes to do well on her exams. Class overall was great.
She's a great professor. Very good at simplifying concepts. But this class itself is very difficult. You need to be active in class. She gives lots of bonus points on your exams. and drops the lowest test grade. She's quick with grading and reviews everything before your exams. Study guides are helpful. Her final was so hard, you need to study!!
Worst professor, don't take her
Students should read the e-texbook because she talks vert fast. However, she is an easy teacher ans gives us a lot of extra credits via group activities at the end of each class. She has enough materials to make sure students can review and do well for each exam. The exams are easy and similar with her materials and Mymathlab.
I liked that she gave out handouts for each lesson, a study guide for each test, and used MyMathLab. However, group activities after every lecture; you have to learn names and answer some IRRELEVANT question that just wastes your time to do the actual assignment (thought it is extra credit). She's like a naive grandma that has no common sense.
Our hw assignments are on MyMathLab and I learned more from that program than from her. She goes very fast in class and leaves us all confused. Asking questions will still leave you confused. Skipping class isn't a big deal as MyMathLab is here to save the day. She cares but doesn't teach well at all.
She is amazing! You should take her! I am not very good in maths, however, she made it easy. Good explanations and examples. The exam review is almost identical to the exam itself. You have to take 4 exams(you can drop the lowest grade) and a final. At the end of each class she gives extra credit assignments. Put in the effort and you can get an A
She's a lovely professor. If only all professors were as kind and patient with explaining math. She made an unbearable subject enjoyable for me. I will miss her.
I dont know why so many people talk trash about her. She is amazing, nice and kind. Shes just not good at explaining stuff sometimes but theres other sources out there that will help you. Do all the homework on mymathlab, and study the test review carefully you will get an A easily. Her test is exactly like the test review
She is a caring professor that tries to help you out in class, but isn't able to. She goes through class really fast to a point where we always leave early. Mymathlab will become your homie in this course. If you day dream for even a second in class you will get lost. She is not a good professor if you are new to Applied Calculus.
Professor Sherry is a great professor. She does group work which you do earn points from that are added to the tests. Make sure you do her homework it will help when it comes to the test. She is super sweet.
Prof Sherry is awesome! Gives 4 unit tests which are similar to MyMathLab hws and quizzes -and if you ace all 4 tests, u dont have to take the final exam- but you have to do all the hws and quizzes for that as well- they are kinda lengthy but u have weeks to complete them. Is really kind and will help u succeed. Group extracredit so show up!!
one of the best calc 271 professors @NOVA!!! generous with extra credit. tests are similar to study guides. moves fast and do have to review on your own, but makes calc a bit easier to understand. Extremely nice lady. can skip final if avg > 95. drops the lowest test. handwriting is a bit confusing.
Prof makes the exams just like the review guide almost identical. She gives out so many handouts but its all worth it because that just more to practice with. 5 test the lowest gets dropped and then a final. She gives extra credit on the exams just show up to class and you'll do fine.
I took Professor Sherry for a six-week accelerated MTH163 course and I doubt I would have passed with another teacher. Her lectures are fast, but they're to the point. She loves when you ask questions and never makes you feel stupid. If Math isn't your strong suit, and you have to take Calculus as a required course, this is the teacher for you.
Professor Sherry is amazing. I wish she taught MTH 174, so I could have taken her again. She gives out a lot of extra credits, but make sure you do the homework. The tests are easy as long as you pay attention in class and do the study guides. Take her!!
Professor Sherry is definitely a fast paced teacher. However, it is an easy class if you simply attend, pay attention, and actively participate. At the end of lectures, she puts us in groups and has us work on practice problems. You get out what you put in. Do the homework problems and follow her study guide for the exam to be successful!
I freakin love the way she teaches you the material, she makes it very clear and very easy for you to learn. if you do NOT practice the problems outside of class you definitely won't pass but if you DO, you're all set. she is amazing, this is where its at chief
Her lectures are VERY fast. She covers a section in 20-30 minutes so take goods notes. The rest of class time is spent doing group work, which is really good for people who learn better that way. The only downside is that you have to teach yourself most of the time due to how fast lectures are. Good luck!
Very fast lectures, be sure to study the study guides and homework as the tests are based on those. Gives group work after lecture for attendance and participation points. Final exam was kind of difficult. Overall average math professor.
A really nice professor, but wow, she goes through the material EXTREMELY fast. She lectures off of photocopied notes that are pretty hard to read. She will talk through an entire section in just 15 minutes. If you're good at learning this way/on your own, then you'll be fine. I'm good at math, but this was a very difficult way for me to learn.
She teaches crazy fast! I'm personally bad at math so attending class didn't help me understand the material. I taught myself everything. I recommend taking good notes, practice a lot, and go to the math tutoring center. Don't take her if math is not your strong suit!
She talks way too fast, but she gives you the notes. She's a great teacher and definitely knows her stuff. Tests were easy. As long as you understand the notes, you'll do great on the exams. She tries to give bonus points for every test. There's a lot of homework, but everything's due/checked on the day of the exam.
Extremely fast. Maths is my favorite but not this semester. I struggled because of how fast she goes. Tests are ok, but hard if u don't review material at home as the professor is super fast paced.
She teaches her class at such a fast rate. If the class gets canceled due to weather or other circumstances, be prepared to go over 3-4 sections in one class. Be prepared to review and teach yourself at home. The only good thing about this class is the extra credit that she gives out.
Professor Sherry is a very nice woman but she teaches extremely fast. If you struggle with math, do not take her. She is a tough grader and will deduct points if you forget to write certain details. I'd recommend going to the tutoring center for help and practice A LOT when you get the chance.
She teaches way too FAST. You are going to teach yourself stuff. She is a tad scatterbrained. She doesn't give too much homework and is a polite professor, just don't use your phone during class. Her tests aren't crazy difficult, but study HARD. I made the mistake of not going to every class and she randomly made attendance a grade at the end.
She's a sweet lady but she teaches at a very fast pace. I wouldn't recommend taking her if math isn't your strong suit. Complete all the hw! She skims them to make sure you did all of them. Take advantage of the tutoring center! I cannot stress this enough! I did most of the learning there. Practice math problems she hands out and you'll be set!
Took her for a 6 week summer course. Fast lectures, she uploads the handwritten fill-in-the-blanks notes beforehand so its best to print those out or else you'll likely fall behind with a blank sheet of paper. Super against phones. HW is given through textbook and is much harder than the exams. Class routine is doing the sections then group work.
She moves soo quickly through the content. All of the notes are online and throughout the entire class she makes you print out 50 sheets of notes instead of letting you take notes in class. Awful professor. The only reason I passed was because I took calculus before. She is nice though. So much homework!! Also she will not allow phones in class.
I was fooled by the positive reviews here. She has to be one of the worst math professors i have ever taken!!! She literally goes through the notes barely solving them as if she is teaching herself. Her tests are the same concepts presented in the study guide but much harder. If you dont want to hurt your gpa, DO NOT TAKE HER!
Professor sherry is one of the best professors at Nova. She has clear syllabus. we had 5 test and one lower grade is dropped. All the tests are based on the review. She goes very fast but if you come to class and do all the work you will be fine.
Professor Sherry definitely knows math but she goes so fast in class, often going over multiple sections of a chapter in one class period in less than an hour. She doesnt really let you ask questions because of how fast she goes either. Lots of group work at the end of classes. Wouldnt recommend if not super comfortable with math
Her class is not for the faint of heart, especially if you're not good with math. Like others have said here, she goes through the lectures very fast; I learned almost nothing from sitting through them. All the learning I did was from the homework, seriously do the the homework. She's kind but not a good professor.
Occasionally gives group work at the end of class. Yes, she can go a bit fast but that's the nature of the course. To make up for that, she already has the notes for you,so you can just follow along. Explains subject very well and the tests are usually 10x easier than what you'd expect if you study well. She's a gem compared to my last calc teacher!
For an 8am class, this was NOT worth it. She only grades by 4 tests, hw, and attendance, so if you don't come, its not worth it. She also talked very fast in the morning so it's hard to even keep up. Unless youre an early bird and can understand calc, save yourself. Didnt hold office hours the entire semester i took her, so i couldnt ask for help.
Her syllabus said the lowest exam score gets dropped. I got 100s on all of the exams leading up to the final exam, so in the class before the final I thanked her, since I wasn't gonna show up to the final - I'll take a 0 so she can drop it. She said I still had to show up. I explained her policy. She still said no. Not a huge deal, but frustrating.
She moves fast and doesnt even give enough time for questions. Shell say Questions? Ok. and then move on within a SECOND of asking if anyone has questions. Her handwriting is kinda sloppy and hard to read sometimes and shell make a lot of mistakes on her notes which makes things confusing. Wouldnt recommend unless youre fairly good at math.
Mrs. Sherry really seems like a great person, but as a professor, it just doesn't work for me. She reads right off of the powerpoint and is constantly correcting herself and her notes which makes it so hard to pay attention. Homework and tests are in MyMathLab and are relatively easy. She also gives Excel assignments throughout the semester.
She is a very nice person, she will not bother if you ask her questions, the only problem is she does not know how to record the lecture, so you have to be in class and pay attention in order to pass the test, she will give the assignment on MyMathLab also Excel assignment and you have about two weeks or more to finish it.
She fast as hell
She should spend more time thoroughly explaining the material instead of rushing through her lectures to put us into groups to do class work. Nobody knows what she just went over so when we get into groups nobody knows what to do... not the worst but if you can find someone better, then take them instead.
Professor Sherry, overall, is a good Professor. She does go fast when presenting, so I recommend going over material after class as well. Homework and Exams we're based on MyMathLab - make sure you do the homework. There are some 70+ questions. She had us break out into groups often to solve problems - you will be required to turn your camera on.
If u have an apple, don't take this class as u will need to do excel a lot. She is good, pretty much gives u the answers and is nice. Not so good at explaining so u should watch the videos she has posted. Everything is open note. She goes by the material quicky. Lots of group work at the end of the class, just partecipate and pay attention.
4 exams. 1 finals. Lots of hw through Pearson. Be ready to pay for that program. Each exam worth 175 point. Final worth 100 points. Lectures go by super fast. Every class, group works. The end of the semester group works worth 10% of the grade + attendance. Exams just like the hw. Exams-zoom. Pearson taught me more than her. I would take her again.
Professor Sherry literally reads off of printed slides that were taken from a text book. She's not sure of answers, dithers a quite a bit, and doesn't understand Excel, but tests are open note. There's a lot of homework, but it's an easy A if you're halfway good at math or can follow along in the notes.
Like others are saying, she goes blazing fast through lectures. This is not my way of learning and can be really difficult to keep up. It is literally like the memes where you drop your pensile on the floor, you pick it up, and she has already gone through a whole problem and is on to the next one using the same breath. Take her at your own risk!
As long you show up you'll be fine. The work that were given out to me were excel and 54 math question from lesson that were used during the lecture that will be on test. The work is easy just show up to class and you'll be fine.
She is a great teacher. Everything is very clear. If you do your homework and take notes on it, you will pass the class. Tests are open note. Homework is the same as tests.
If you aren't good with teaching yourself, then do not take this course. She way too fast to really learn and then immediately after you are put into groups EVERY single class so you are immediately put on the spot. She also gets irritated if you ask her to repeat anything and includes a question on the test she has not taught (so not in notes).
She's not bad, but not great. There's SO much homework, you have to have MyMathLab to take the tests and complete the homework. The homework is usually around 60-75 questions. You have to also complete these excel projects that shes very strictly grades. She's 50/50 when grading, she's lenient on tests but strict on homework and projects.
She's strict on grading the excel projects but not super strict on the quizzes/exams. I don't like how she teaches because sometimes, even she doesn't know what she's doing. If you want to actually learn the material and understand it find someone else because all she does is read off a PowerPoint in hopes you understand what she's talking about.
The class was easy. She's fast but reads off of the power points. If you have a question, you might have to interrupt her. Be on time. The tests are exactly like the homework. EVERYTHING IS OPEN NOTE). End of each class you are put in groups and work on problems together with your camera and audio on. I'd take her again for an easy grade.
While she does teach pretty fast when lecturing content, all material and notes are accessible through canvas, The homework application can show you how to solve problems if you are stuck too. There is group work, but very minimal, its mostly just solving a 1-2 questions as a group and showing answers to professor for the credit. Great experience
