A very hard class with a teacher hard to understand. She uses big terms which make lectures hard to comprehend. I've taken a lot of math classes and received great grades, but this class is very difficult. I'm barely passing even when I've studied real hard.

She teaches off power point and it is hard to read her handwriting on board when she decides to write on there. She also writes very fast and explains things as she goes and blocks the board with her body while writing. Really hard to follow along. I had to learn off the textbook and youtube/google. She's not the worst teacher but also not the best

If you don't understand something, she practically begs you to come talk to her after class because she genuinely wants you to succeed. I don't understand why PowerPoint teaching is bad. Everyone does it. Unless you want to sit on her lap while she reads, she's good.

DO NOT TAKE HER! Dr. Stolovy is quite educated but unfortunately, she has absolutely zero interpersonal & teaching skills. She just reiterates the confusing jargon that is in the book. I highly recommend Dr. Stolovy for PH1A. She provides all students with the necessary resources to excel in the class, and more importantly to gain a deep understanding of physics. Read the textbook, focus during lecture, don't procrastinate, practice HW problems, go to office hours, and I guarantee you'll do well. She wants you to succeed!

She will attack you for not listening to "what she already explained" and make you regret asking for help. I passed the class with practice questions. I didn't need to listen to her lectures. You need to spend $100+ in order to do homework (Mastering Physics). +You lose points for incorrect answers. study before attempting hw assignment.

Great professor, but lectures are a tad boring at times (though it doesn't help that this was a morning class). Exams are pretty difficult due to their length and slight curveballs but if you truly understand the HW you should do OK. Very accessible via email or office hours, and offers good EC opportunities. Lab heavy class.

Stolovy is a PowerPoint professor, we read slides the whole lecture and then are expected to know how to do problems. The homework only hinders your learning with extremely confusing problems assigned. In all honesty, you'd be better off learning by yourself at home and then coming to class to take the exam. Expect to teach yourself the material

While Physics 1A is inherently a hard class, she is not very pleasant to deal with. When she calls on students, she responds condescendingly when they get the question wrong. On the online hw (which you pay ~$75 for), she docks 3% for every wrong attempt, encouraging students to Google the answers. She even responds to her reviews (scroll down).
