Amazing teacher! but she is CRAZY ABOUT PRIMARY SOURCES! she will help you understand what she is talking about, & as long as you study, take notes and understand the primary sources you will do excellent, she also takes out the lowest quiz grade you have at the end of the semester! take her you won't regret it. not a chili pepper and you need book
Really easy history class. Makes it interesting to learn history and as long as you attend class and keep up with the readings you'll pass. Not to mention she drops the lowest test score.
I would not take her if you are looking for an easy A. She teaches through primary sources mainly and you REALLY had the know these sources inside and out to pass her quizes with a decent grade. You won't pass if you just read through them once or twice. Very tedious class, but the lectures were interesting and the professor was friendly.
Best teacher ever! I also had her for HIS 101. She really wants students to succeed. Goes over all information that is on the test and is so clear about the information. Her tests are all short answer, so if you are not a good writer, you may have a difficult time with them. She is one of the best teacher I've ever had, hands down!
She's smart. She loves history ,and is extremely helpful. She can teach.
Best History teacher I've ever had. She knows her stuff, if you ask her anything related to history she probably knows the answer. She is very accepting to questions and always in a good mood. I was extremely satisfied with my experience in her class.
Best history teacher ever. If you try there is no way you can not get an A.
Love her! Shes a really good teacher, knows her stuff and you actually learn your history with her. Shes all about sources and how you know your information. Took her this sumemr and assignments were easy if you did your reading! You have to study for essays. Test were all online. Take her if you actually want to learn. Not an easy A
I cannot speak highly enough about this teacher. She is incredibly smart and passionate about history and it shows in her lectures. What is expected is straightforward and she's very supportive of her students and the ideas they bring to discussions. The quizzes and tests are emphasized more on writing and evaluating historical sources. GO TO CLASS
Does not make you memorize dates. Has lots of interesting historical details to share. No trick questions on tests. You will not get out of class early. May give a punitive pop quiz if she thinks the class is unprepared. Unannounced assignments in class with no make-up; get a zero if you're absent. Do the work & go to class and you should do well.
She knows what she is doing, go to class, pay attention, and do the work and you will be fine. If re all the assigned readings, you will be prepared for the test.
Great professor. It was pretty clear she has a deep knowledge with what we were learning in this HIS 101 class. Any question a student had on any topic, she always had an answer for it. She also seemed like a generally nice person. A++
She is the best prof anyone can get in history. take her and you will love history
I highly recommend taking this class. Great professor.
I had her for both of my history classes. Learned a lot and wanted to go to class.
Fantastic professor, she makes the lectures interesting. There are 10 online reading assignments and 4 tests (incl. the final), you can use your booknotes on all of them. The tests have an online portion and an in-class portion. The final is not cumulative. Show up and take good notes. Some extra credit questions given on online assignments.
She is the best teacher I've ever had!
Very fun and enjoyable teacher. Makes history an incredibly enthralling experience, and is knowledgeable about the topics. Her course is simple enough if you take notes and do not get distracted, and even if you miss a class or two, reading a classmate's notes is sufficient as long as you do not miss too many. Easy and amusing course, recommended!
She is so nice and knowledgable. Her lectures are really interesting and fun. Her tests are fair, and she gives a little guide online of what to look over before test day. Definitely take her if you get the chance! There are in-class assignments that you can't make up, but she does give you a free pass on one. Definitely take her if you can!
The BEST professor ever!! Iv always found history boring. She makes history fun and exciting to learn. She is very knowledgeable in her field. Tests are extremely easy. But dont miss class or you will have trouble on exams. You dont have to memorize dates or write a paper.. cant get any better than that.
Simply put this woman is awesome... She knows everything in her field and she has been everywhere she talks about. There is a backstory to make everything fun. She is a little strict on grading and isnt flexible at all. Nonetheless, I have an A and so should you! You can survive without the textbook... but I wouldnt recommend it
BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD AT NOVA!
Awesome teacher! Super sweet, and she's clearly passionate about her subject. Her lectures are not painful to get through, and her Power Points are easy to follow. Just be sure to show up to class, because I'm sure you won't learn much just from looking at her Power Points online. Plus, she's one of the few teachers that actually uses the textbook.
She is really sweet. This was one of the easier classes I took, almost every quiz or exam is open book. Her lectures aren't boring, she makes history interesting. Attendance is recorded but she posts power points online that you go over in class so you aren't missing anything If you skip. You'll need the textbook, you use it for almost everything.
This class is SUPER easy, you only really need the book for certain things, everything else you can go off by the in-class lectures. That being said, you'll need to show up if you want to pass the class.
She was an amazing professor and I would recommend her to anyone!
I have hard time understanding the sources and since she doesn't tell you about what quiz is do even though we had no class and the quiz was due I have B in the class if I didn't miss the quiz then I would had an A in this class you can get an A or B with this teacher she is so sweet
Great, Awesome, Lovely, and caring Instructor. She is very knowledgeable and caring. Her teaching style is fantastic. She assign the readings and then lecture them in the class. She gives so many mini tests to help the students make their grade. I recommend her for every one. I wish she was my teacher in all my classes
My favorite profesor of all time! as long as you show up, do your work, and are respectful there is no reason you shouldnt get an A. She goes on tangent which makes her lectures even better. Reading checks are online and multiple choice. Quizzes are multiple choice and easy essays. I GOT A 100 ON THE FINAL. SHE IS THE BEST
I love her so much, this is the second time taking her and both times I have enjoyed her class the most. She gives amazing feedback, all of our exams were take-home, the quizzes were really easy, if you do all the work she gives, you will pass with an A!! her lectures are really interesting they aren't boring at all she makes cute little jokes too!
I was worried about this class, but it turned out to be a great experience. She made boring history very interesting and she really knows her stuff. im glad i took the class
This class is very visual, the audios and readings help a lot. I love Mrs. Thompson, I used to hate history but the way she tells history makes everything so interesting. She will give you a study guide which will be very helpful. This class is not hard at all, just complete the online assigments and pay attention in class. Easy A.
complete the online assignment which are easy, you can google them, and they're always like 10 questions. The quizzes are all online, google those. You barely have to study to get an A. Just pay attention in class and she tells you how to answer the test questions during class and exactly which questions are in the open ended part (in-class part)
Best teacher hands down! All work she assigns is clear & manageable, especially if taking her hybrid class. Never been lost or confused in her class, and if so she always restates everything that needs to be done through blackboard. Her lectures are so engaging, I honestly forget that I'm in a class sometimes, I'm telling you the women is amazing!!
Absolutely take her, don't let anyone convince you otherwise. I gave C minus level effort and barely showed up and I got an A and I'm pretty much an airhead, that's why I'm in community college. This class is ridiculously easy. She's an awesome lady, very funny, only time I've ever enjoyed history in my life. Stop reading this and take her class!
She is an amazing history professor for overall. She is not hard at all as long as you follow her instructions during class. Lectures were interesting that make you brain working during class discussion. Exams and homework assignments were online, make sure you do all the works that she assigns. Then you will get an "A" out of it.
Professor Thompson is so sweet and really knows her stuff. She is really clear about every assignment and her lectures are actually interesting. Be prepared to read a lot. Attendance isn't mandatory. She replies back to emails fast and will for sure help you pass the class!!
Interesting lectures and not too much work. She curves the grade at the end of the semester for the entire class by 10 points. Very understanding and gives a study guide for the 3 tests taken. A few online assignments (for the hybrid course) that you must complete, but not difficult.
Very flexible and understanding professor. Participate in class! She won't make you feel dumb or anything, just answer her questions, she's a great professor so at least pretend you're interested in history at least for her.
Really passionate about what she teaches
The professor is good and she is really strong in the knowledge she has of the subject. She is very strict on grading and also she curves the grade
One of the best teachers I've had! She makes History interesting. All of her homework and quizzes are online and open book. Her tests in class are written and a bit more difficult if you don't study, but she discusses everything in length. Attendance in her class isn't mandatory, but recommended. She's amazing and I can't wait to take her 102 class
Dropped the class because too many homework and papers, every week test plus history not my favorite
Professor Thompson is by far the best teacher I have had so far at the Woodbridge NOVA.
I wish all classes were like this at NOVA
A pretty good teaching experience! Thompson was very understanding of the average college student. She was neutral in her lessons and the overall subject (politically), which is a good plus! Shes a little wiggy as to what class she is teaching or when she can grade that assignment, but she was able to bounce back. Online Tests & Assignments!
She really cares. About her students and her work. While there was the occasional late homework post this semester, each and every time I talked to her she extended the deadline. You cant ask for much more than that. I got an A.
Prof. Thompson is just amazing! there is no homework, and quizzes are online along with the multiple choice part of the tests. Lectures are just great!
Took her class for a brief 8 week Summer session. By far one of the best instructors I've ever had. Lots of reading required, but that was mostly due to the course being crammed into 8 weeks. Very knowledgeable about what she teaches and sticks to the point. Let's you know what to prepare for on all upcoming tests. Would definitely recommend.
Wonderful teacher, loved the way she lectured and graded. Very patient and explains things clearly.
Easy class. Pay attention, and read the chapters and you'll retain a good amount of stuff.
The best professor! loved her class she was so fun and tests were taken at home! she gives quizzes sometimes at the beginning of class but they are so easy as long as you read what she asks! Take her if you can because she makes it impossible for you to fail unless you literally don't turn in any work!! 11/10
Super nice lady! She gives you a study guide before the tests are given (which is super helpful) and the homework answers are all in the textbook! You do need to read a lot in the textbook but this class is seriously worth it. She also posts her PowerPoints on canvas. I definitely recommend her!
Prof. Thompson was the BEST. I got a D with one professor, and retook with her and got an A. She is amazing and has the best criteria. During the pandemic she was the most caring professor. PLEASE take her!! There are essays, and even if you aren't good at writing she will leave a goof feedback and good grade. Exams are easy!
I took the 8 week summer course and it was a breeze! I was working and returning to school and I didn't feel too bogged down. There is a lot of reading and the text can be kinda boring but as long as you got the main points you can pass the reading assignments. Only 3 test and not cumulative! weekly PBS videos with a worksheet to follow along, easy
Maybe it was just me, but I did not like this teacher at all. She was very rude to me and I have no clue why. She accused me of plagiarism and couldn't back up her claim and every time I talked to her she made me seem like a burden. Easy class but a lazy, rude teacher.
quizzes every week or so, but exams and quizzes are open book. each class is a lecture so make sure to take notes but mostly everything can be found in the textbooks.
tbh I liked her at first but then she got boring, I asked to do something I missed so if you missed it you won't get another chance from her. Her test is hard it's word by word in the textbook so get ready to read ALOT.
Took her online class. She was very kind and obviously passionate about History. Class content was easy just go to class and do the homework!
Shes amazing at teaching, but she wasnt that up to par with canvas and online stuff. Shes not that organized but she makes history interesting and the class is fairly easy if you just do your work, pay attention to lectures, and read the textbook. Its a great class I highly recommend taking her you wont regret it!
If you have a disability or family hardship, do not take this professor! She is not understanding or accommodating at all. She doesn't care about individual students and is definitely only here for the paycheck. When shown proof of hospitalization, she basically said she didnt care bc she has a lot of students who also have struggles+emergencies
She is super nice and very easy to learn from.
She is a nice professor but she is very anti-religion which can be offensive to some students.
She is not available outside of class. Her lectures are long. Her grading is tough. She is sarcastic and embarrasses you in class if you answer something incorrectly. Don't bother emailing her because she won't respond at all. I would NOT recommend her as a teacher. I will not take her again. Don't take.
Professor Thompson is my favorite professor Ive had so far. She is passionate about her subject, and instills a love of learning about history by relating to modern day and emphasizing the value of original sources. Professor Thompson is very respectable and composed, but also sweet and quirky! Loved her class, Im sad its over!
Professor Thompson gives great lectures! Her class is easy if you show up, read, and turn in assignments on time. Her quizzes are open note.
Professor Thomson is best professor I had in NOVA. She makes lectures interesting and fun. I didn't like history much but had to take it, and she made the lectures very interesting. She doesn't ask us to memorize dates and events, but to question sources. I wish she teaches more classes online. AMAZING professor.
Sweet and easy class to pass, quizzes are based mostly on the textbook but just need skimming to pass. lectures were boring to me but that likely bc I woke up at 7 to go to a cold classroom talking about white history. Professor does seem to like what she teaching. before buying a textbook, chose an online option I wish I did.
This class was surprisingly super simple and forward. There was little assignments throughout the whole semester and the ones she assigned were mostly quizzes with answers found in the textbook. I had taken this class already and failed but Professor Thompson made it much easier for me to pass. Definitely recommend taking this as your first class.
Professor Thompson was both very knowledgeable and considerate of her students. Her lectures were also quite interesting. She's one of my favorite professors of all time. The textbook is needed mostly for work outside class. You could probably survive without it, but it will make your life a lot easier. Great course & professor. Would recommend.
For, a 101-level class, the amount of work is too much. The exams are open notes, for a reason you must read a big portion of the textbook, to answer about 30-34 questions, and they're also free-response(s) questions; However, her lectures were very good though. She does take a long to grade stuff, so be worried about that.
She is one of the sweetest professors I know at NOVA. She has been very inclusive of students in the class and always answers questions in a polite manner. It may take a while for her grade assignments but overall I would take her class again.
Positive Professor that really enjoys teaching. She always has a smile on her face. There is about one assignment every week which is very reasonable. One midterm and final (final isn't cumulative). She's a fair grader but she does take a while to grade things so beware of that. Recommended this prof to anyone that needs a history course.
For the in-person class, the professor gave light hw/quizzes after class. Very reasonable professor and gives feedback. The lectures to me personally were also interesting. She does sometimes grade late, however... but definitely take her class. Attendance doesn't count but it helps a lot if you attend class. 3 exams all online and open book.
I took the asynch online course. Rocky first half of the semester but that was due to personal situation going on, which she communicated. She had a great introduction video that I have never seen other asynch online professors do and I wish it continued that way. In the 2nd half she was very communicative and left feedback, not a harsh grader.
Professor Thompson was one of the better professors I've ever had. Light grader, very reasonable, and very nice and understanding. Homework and exams were both light especially since everything was open note (even the final). Lectures were also interesting just pay attention for a little bit and you should have no issue.
All exams are take home, there are no written papers for this course, and homework assignments are very light. There is no reason to get anything less than an A. I highly recommend you take her class.
One of the best history professors I've had
She has a lot of passion for history and relates it to our time and cracks some good jokes here and there. Maybe 1 assignment and 1 chapter to read a week. Open notes tests and quizzes except for the in class portions. Final is only on last unit and also open notes. Her class is almost all lectures but very interesting.
Professor Thompson was fairly nice but she closes assignments the day due and does not open them even if you have a personal issue. One thing I did witness was a student saying she didn't know that she had to take a quiz and Professor Thompson only said that she was sorry she was confused on the instructions. She still didn't open the quiz for her.
She is literally the only reason why I haven't been dropped from the ADVANCE program. I had some family issues going on at the time I took this class and didn't do the final exam but she still passed me and kept my grade at C. Be prepared to write a lot for assignments, but she's a pretty fair grader.
She takes fairly long to grade assignments, so it's hard to know where you stand in the class and caused many in our class stress. She told us eventually that she was having a family emergency, but many reviews here reflect on her late grading style.
The class was really easy, even though it took her very long to grade anything the class was well structured and she is a likeable teacher.
Likeable teacher that will definitely help you and provide fair grades if you demonstrate your effort in the assigments' topics. Grading took longer as others mentioned. Weekly discussions and assignments, no textbook to buy but definitely review the material given. Accommodating as long as you demonstrate any issue ahead of time. Good prof.
I loved this class and was thrilled to get an A, she even gave me a shoutout! The workload is manageable with fewer assignments, and she provides amazing feedback and holds office hours. I actually started enjoying researching by the end of it. She's amazing, and I highly recommend taking this course with Professor Thompson!
Professor Thompson is engaging and reasonable. The workload is light - just a few assignments per week and open-note exams. I found Unstuck study and the textbook to be super helpful study tools. Overall, a great class!
Great class. She was going through personal issues during my 7 week course so she was late on grading, kept us updated, was very kind. Tests require memorizing, you are given a study guide with every possible question you could be given. Tests: short answer, putting events in order, and two essay questions. Not bad if you memorize the list given.
I took the 7-week course and found it easier than expected. Despite disliking history, I passed with an A. The lectures were boring, but the assignments were simple. Studying for the tests is crucial, as the professor provides a helpful study guide. One midterm, one final, and a final project, all of which were manageable.
literal perfect teacher. highly reocmmend. please take her!
I loved having her as my professor! She is very kind and understanding. The workload is light and manageable. There were three exams, so make sure to study for those. She will provide a study guide. I also recommend participating and engaging. My only criticism is that she usually takes longer to grade if exams are online (which are open note).
Professor Thompson, BEST HISTORY professor I really appreciated having her during my fall semester. She gives very good lectures and everything we go over in class is on the test .You do have to do a little bit of reading .She worked with me on improving my grade and I managed to pass the class with Grade B.
Words can't describe how awesome Professor Thompson is!! I enjoyed her class so much and made going to class super fun. Although I missed a few times (sorry) I still managed to pass her class. She's easy to talk to and straight up with her syllabus. I recommend her!!
I took her Fall 2024. She was super kind, she's kind of awkward and shy, but she's passionate about history. She doesn't give much homework aside from some quizzes. You HAVE to study for her exams, they aren't multiple choice. They are a combination of handwritten short and long paragraphs. As long as you study and pay some attention, u'll be ok!
Harsh grader, takes a long time to grade assignments, does not answer emails and does not sympathize with students needs. No room for late work under any circumstances and no extensions at all. Seems unreasonable when she does not grade in a timely manner. She is however very knowledgeable and her lectures are pleasant.
Professor Thompson is very knowledgeable and explains the material clearly during lectures. She is kind, patient, and genuinely cares about her students' learning. However, she tends to grade assignments late and is often slow to respond to emails, which can be frustrating when you're waiting for feedback or have questions.
Takes a over a week for her to respond to emails, or she just doesn't respond at all. This is detrimental in an online class. I found it extremely rude and unprofessional. No help whatsoever. Don't take online. Don't teach an online class if you don't want to respond to emails, Thompson.
This view shows my experiences lived during 2024 spring semester. Thomson's class was mostly reading, do the read and you will be fine, participate in class for extra feedback. Also, do not be afraid to share your views because she loves other interpretations of historical things.
Worst professor for online classes. She absolutely does not respond to emails and takes forever to grade assignments. I emailed her four times yes, four times and never got a single response. I just took my final this Thursday, and I still have no idea if I'm passing or failing the course.

I liked my time with her. She is very chill and super sweet. You can tell she is very passionate about history. My only complaints are her lack of responses to emails, and she would assign work and not grade them at all.
