I am a 4.0 student who made an F in this course. This is the worst excuse for a teacher that I have ever seen in my entire life. She is rude, unpleasant to be around, overly difficult and doesn't focus on the course material. This class was a waste of money and a waste of time. TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER because this one is horrible.
This woman didn't teach. She just learned how to blog and the entire class was devoted to students showing clips from youtube. She never once lectured. She handed out notes which she somewhat glossed over and then we wasted the entire class listening to students who really did not know the issues discuss why they felt their clip was relevant.
this woman is great. editing for clear comm is one of the easiest classes if you can handle editing articles on a daily basis. we had ap style quizzes and current events quizzes, which helped out a bunch..and were not hard if you studied.
awesome teach!
I'm taking her for Mass Media, and she's a really cool professor. She's a STICKLER for attendance-she counts off after 2. Other than that, no text, just printouts and discussion on TV/news/movie clips watched in class. Easy-only 2 tests and no assignments. This is a great class to balance out more stressful ones.
She's definately a cool lady. Talks of the days when she was a hippie (still is) Be careful though, only a mid-term and final. Allowed 2 absences, then points start droping. No text, just printouts on TRACS. I made a B
I love Dr.Weill she's one of the nicest and most genuine people I've met in my entire life. Her class is really entertaining and interesting.
Took her for Mass Media and Society. Her class was the biggest waste of time. All we did was watch dumb youtube videos (like of Shakira shaking her butt, literally.) I can't really say I learned anything new. Very sad considering she has a Ph. D.
Had her for mass media and society. It's not so much that she is a bad person or bad prof... it's just that the class is a total, total waste of time. Example: we watched all three Rush Hour trailer and blooper reels to learn about stereotypes. Luckily she let us go at least a half hour early every single day.
She's great, and the class is really easy. She e-mails notes before every class, and there is little from her lecture not on these handouts. On a personal level, I talked to her pretty often, and she's a great person to talk to about anything within or outside class. I highly recommend her.
Class is super easy, and fun! All you have to do is show up with printed notes and watch videos! Tests are easy all about notes and videos....NO BOOK!!! Dr. Weill is groovy =)
She's hilarious and she keeps class fun and interesting. She always dismisses class 30 minutes early. Majority of class is just watching YouTube, and watching The Colbert Report and the Daily Show. It's an easy A
Super easy class. Pretty fun, and some of the stuff you learn will be great for trivia night.
No book just lecture notes and plenty videos!
One of the easiest classes I have ever taken in my life. You will watch a ton of videos and you will easily make an A on each test if you just scan over the notes she provides online before the test.
Weill is very quirky and VERY opinionated (left-wing, politically) Her class is very interesting though, but the tests are rather difficult and I definitely had to study. I made a B, but the experience was worth it. She is very friendly and wants to get to know her students. She'll also help MC majors in any way she can.
I loved this class! There's no textbook, and she provides the notes for each lecture. She genuinely wants to know her students and loves to inject humor into the course.
Easy A! Just go to class because the extra points that could help with your grade come from attending. No textbook. Only notes that she provides. What more can you ask for? Very pleasant woman and tries to get to know students. The course is very interesting. No assignments, just three tests. Everything comes from the notes. Final exam is optional.
Easy A! Interesting material. No textbook just study notes and go to class!
She overloads your inbox with redundant e-mails, calls students "a**holes" and is extremely passive aggressive when it comes to in class behavior. Her tests are not that tough, there is no textbook and the class is moderately interesting. It is a required class and she is the only one that teaches it, so just prepare yourself.
Great teacher. She loves to just talk, there is no textbook. Only 3 tests. She is just a little passive aggresive when it comes to phone use in her room. Other that, everying is good and every test is online taken from your home!
She is a very nice lady but is very passive aggressive. she does not give any extra credit but if you have a .33 she will raise your grade up. her tests are hard, like one word difference. all online, no textbook, no attendance policy but go to class!! i didnt like this class at all..
This class is for sure not a blow off class! the test are online and fairly difficult, you must remember statics that she gives you in class/Tracs to do decent!!
At first thought this class was a blow off class, but I was wrong. She doesn't count attendance but going to class makes everything easier. No textbooks (just notes) and all tests are online. Tests are not super hard but can be tricky. Good teacher and makes class interesting.
She makes lecture very interesting. No textbook, but lecture notes for every class that are very vague to encourage attendance. Tests are online and VERY hard.
If you are in this graduate program, AVOID THIS PROFESSOR! Among many other things, you had to run your papers through plagiarism software before you turn them in and hope the software doesn't have a glitch. Felt like she was waiting to bust you for something you didn't do. The only course where I felt like a high school kid and not a grad student.
I do not understand how people have positive comments about her. She was disorganized and her tests were online (which left room for glitches) and impossible. Her notes were completely random and incomprehensible. I showed up to class, took extra notes and still made a D. I do NOT recommend her.
I had this teacher before she administered tests online, but I will say that this is NOT a blow off class. Her tests are based on her lectures and videos. Print out the lecture slides and take notes on whatever statistics she gives for sure. She can, however, be a little disorganized but an easy class to pass!
Attendance not mandatory. Tests are online, but they are impossible. "All of the following are correct, but which is the most correct?" -Every question, every test. WAY too many notes and readings, also. No matter how hard I studied, I would make C's every time. Not fair. If this is an optional elective for you, I would not recommend her.
This class has potential to be interesting but it is very disorganized and the tests are impossible. I am an A student and made a C. Do not take this if you can avoid it. "which of the following is most accurate" for every test question and the answers differ by a word. Horrible class.
No Book, Test are based on lecture notes, and test are online. THIS TEACHER REQUIRES COMMON SENSE so if you do not have any don't even bother. she is a good teacher. Go to class and write down whatever she says. Very funny. Just because she shows videos doesn't mean dont come. Out of 90 students 20 attended regularly. Make a index of your lectures.
Sue is a good prof & is clearly passionate about what she's teaching. With that said, this class is a little unorganized I never really knew what her point was. Go to every class, & make an index of the notes & readings before the tests it'll help so much!
Ok well the tests are really hard. I suggest that you make a PDF of all your notes in one file so that you can easily accsess them. I made a C and I'm an A student. In fact I was happy with my C in this class because the tests were so hard.
I'm currently taking this class and I think it's very interesting! Her lectures are clear and make sense if you go over the notes and read the objectives that she posts. Just pay good attention to detail and you should have no problem passing the exams. Got an A on my first one!
Dosen't take attendence. I really like the lady but It's like listening to a good friend you look up to, not a teacher. Tests were annoying, you must read ALL answer choices which are very similar with a few words changed in each. Best way is to keep ALL notes up during test and Control+F If time allows you. Read all notes.
do not take her class unless you want a low grade. all exams are online and every question is "which of the following is most accurate". choices are very similar and is timed. I went to class, although not mandatory, and had to fight for a D
Tests are extremely hard. VERY TRICKY. I attended all classes, took notes and even recorded notes. I went to talk to her, only to have her assume "I was absent, therefore it reflected my grade." I NEVER ONCE MISSED CLASS. Too bad no one else teaches this course.
BE AWARE! Test's are tricky: "which of these is the most accurate? 1. ...and... 2. ...or.... 3. ...sometimes... " Ridiculous!
As other people state, the test are pretty annoying and the time almost expired on me for all 3 tests. I didn't even think about taking the optional final. Test grades were all over the place, but I was happy to be done w this class. To be honest though, I rarely looked at the lectures. If you study, maybe you'll do better than the C (1st one)I got
Her tests are really confusing. "All may be correct but which one is the most correct." She tries to confuse you. However, if you read it carefully you will do fine. I suggest taking it online. Time consuming. Take notes on what she says about video clips, etc.
Honestly, if you fail this class or have a low grade, it's because you aren't trying hard enough. Extremely easy class. Attendance not mandatory, but I recommend it to absorb information better. Open note online exam. Yes the questions are tricky, but it only requires critical thinking. Have any questions for her? She has time after class.
Her class is so easy if you just listen to the lectures and read the notes and articlesvideos she links to. Her tests are a little confusingly worded, so you have to read the questions carefully, but other than that, there's really no reason you shouldn't get an A in this class.
Took this class online and there is a lot to read in a week time. 3 exams and optional final. If you take comprehensive optional final, that will be average of 4 exams in total and does not replace lowest grade. Tests are really confusing "which one is the most accurate" questions and the timed 80 minutes is not enough, too. Take another teacher!
Honestly if you watch the videos and read the assigned readings you'll pass no problem. Test questions require you to read every option "which is most accurate". Go back and rewatch the videos before the test, she usually states important things to remember for each exam. Unless you don't try this class is easy to pass.
Maybe taking an online class with Dr. Weill was a bad idea. She seems like an interesting person, but there was an INSANE amount of notes and reading required. She seems to use the course to express her own political beliefs, which seems unprofessional. I would take another teacher for this course.
I took this class online and the true only way to pass this class is to read and analyze every single article she gives you. She has four tests and an optional final, and her tests are constructed with the sentence "which statement is most accurate?" with four statements that are all extremely similar. I would not recommend her as a professor.
Dr. Weill is an interesting person, but she gives out articles and modules that most readings do not relate to the exams. She gives 3 exams and an optional final. Her questions are "Which is the most accurate?" and answers are very similar. I would not recommend this class for online -- just take it in the classroom.
Test are hard and confusing. I am happy that this class is over and never taking any classes with her. Three exams and one optional final. Who would bother to take, when you need to go through each and every lectures again? Take another professor.
Test questions are confusing, prepare more than you'd think to get the grade you want...
Sue makes her progressive stances on issues very obvious. Every assignment in MC5301 was an essay, from the regular chapter assignments to the final exam. You have to be able to think and write critically. She replies to emails very quickly and is quite clear on grading criteria. Get ready for her to blow your mind with her thoughtful lectures.
So I took this online as I think is the only way offered. It's overall easy but just make sure you stay on top of the online lectures, which btw aren't boring. It's pretty easy to slack as I did and I would try cramming in everything a couple of days before a test and would barely pass the exams.
Submit your assignment on time, she does not even give you an extra minutes more. I got a zero on my first assignment because I submitted a minute late, yes, a minute late. I never experienced this bad from any professor. At least, one can deduct some percentage of the marks.
I really enjoyed this course! It was online, and there was no textbook. Just her lectures which I found very enjoyable. I watched the lectures multiple times and this helped prepare me for the exams.
Doesn't really know what she is talking about and often times will teach views from the far left. Usually when I get professors that share their own political views in class I can manage it but Dr. Weill was almost too much. She also will not work with you, and will not bump up your grade at all. Test are very hard. Strongly recommend not taking.
Dr. Weill is nice and helpful. Class work and expectations are straightforward. Only 3 tests and optional comprehensive final. Exams are all multiple choice and timed. Test formatting/questions can be tricky. Print out the lecture outlines and articles, watch the mini lectures, make an outline of your notes before the test and you'll do fine.
Take Susan Weill for any and every online course you need at Texas State! I never bought the book for either online course I took from her and I don't think its necessary. Print out the chapter outlines and fill them out while watching the mini lectures. Tests for both courses were open note but timed so no big deal! TAKE HER!
Professor Mora was a good time. I took Her class online and it didn't require much effort at all. Every 4 weeks she would have an exam, and I would study a couple hours a day, a few days before the exam and I was totally fine. Her tests are formatted in a difficult and confusing way, but as long as you pay attention you have nothing to worry about.
The class was online, and so I didn't have much interaction with the professor. Her instructions were clear, though. Tests were open notes. I can't understand how anyone didn't get an A.
I took Dr. Weill's Summer 1 session in 2017. Let me begin by saying Dr. Weill does NOT deserve the negative ratings. Her tests are thorough though, so preparation is a must! During Summer 1 we had 3 tests each worth 33% and 3 extra credit opportunities worth 4 points on the exam. It's fast paced but easy to do well in if you put in the work.
Took MC3355 Summer II. Yes, it's a lot of work, but it IS 16 weeks of content in 4 weeks. If you actually read and watch all the materials, you'll be fine. (Pro tip: save everything.) No textbook. 3 tests make up your final grade, and there is an optional 4th test if you aren't satisfied with your grade. Fascinating class, definitely recommend!
I said test heavy because the tests are extremely tricky in sense that there is only one word difference in the answer choices. But she was such a sweet lady and this class was so interesting that it made me want to continue in mass comm. Really study and understand the material and you should be okay.
Easily one of my top 5 favorite professors at Texas State. It was an online class but you really have to watch all the lectures, do the readings, and take your own notes on the lectures & readings. I mean that's a basic college course, if you can't do that then yeah you're gonna have a hard time. Prepare to learn about uncomfortable truths too.
This course was difficult being that i'm not a test taker and theres only 4 test and one intro quiz. mind you her test are hard and worded to trick you (which one is the most accurate). I have test anxiety, so to only be given 60 mins on a 50 question test is very hard for me to do so often while taking the test i would have to start guessing.
Her tests are only trick questions (which one is the most accurate). I took it online and she really doesnt help you at all. I passed but I really dont like how all the lectures were done. They were confusinf when you get to the test and the answer wasnt even said in the lecture. Most of the time you end up guessing. Dont take her.
Overall pretty alright class. The teacher lectures well. Honestly, just write everything she says from the lectures and you'll do great, they aren't that long... The people that did poorly just did not take notes...
Class is simple do the reading, listen to her Lectures. There is alot of items to review, but its interesting stuff, as long as you do your reading, take your lecture notes, you will do fine. 4 Tests - 3 one is optional that can average out to boost up your grade. If your not lazy you can EASILY get and A. If your a reader this class is a breeze.
Graded on 3 exam and an optional 4th. Lectures are pleasurable, she just speaks FAST. I would keep having to pause the video to write the notes down, it distracted from getting the full effect of the lecture. Lots of reading and short extra videos to watch on top of the lecture. The lecture videos range from 12-25 mins. Passionate Professor!!
She doesn't give straight forward questions on her test. Also you do not even have enough time to do a good job on the test because you only get one hour from 50 questions that have way different wording than the notes/book have. I am forced to be in her class again this current summer term due to financial aid.
This class is tough, I took this class online and the questions on the tests are worded funny. I wish there were more grades instead of just the 3 exams.
For being a class required for minors, it was over the top. Unless you can take notes verbatim from the videos she posts, don't even expect an A in this course. She provides way too much material and will pick the most minute detail from her lecture and make it a question on her exams. If you can avoid it, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF ONLINE!
This class was super easy for me. The only grades are 3 exams and an optional final. All you need to do is take notes/screenshot the lectures and youll be fine for the tests. My only complaint is that her lectures are HIGHLY political, so be prepared.
Guidelines clear. Great feedback. Quizzes are easy 100s. Biggest grades are media projects due every other week. Easy to get an A if you do what is asked. Dr. Weill is very sweet and a pleasure.
Overall this class is easy: online lectures that open up in blocks, with 3 exams total. She tends to talk really fast in the lecture videos. The content of the course is interesting though, and she provides note outlines which is nice. Exams aren't too bad, just read carefully.
As long as you watch the lecture videos and fill in the given outlines, you'll get an A. This was the first online class I have taken and I mixed up the date of the 1st test so I received a 0. She has a STRICT no make-up policy so it brought my grade down tremendously but I still passed because I did well on the other exams.
Lectures are not bad to listen to but you have to literally take down word for word. I took 2 online classes through her because they were easy. However the grade is on 4 exams and thats it. Test questions are different by one or two words which is irritating and easy to get wrong. NO extra credit which is also annoying when you have a 79.5.
I took this class online and it was enjoyable! Weill made the course interesting with her media background and I learned a lot about media and society! Learning modules are available until test day. There are 3 exams and an optional final. She provides outlines, so just take notes and you'll be fine. Easiest note-taking is typing while listening.
My advice is to take notes (type them) from her lecture videos word from word. Pause, rewind, and spend however long it takes because her test are not easy. 50 questions that will ask, "Which of the following is most accurate?" I made a low C on the first test and then a high B on the next one because I figured out how I needed to study.
I took 3355 online and honestly, it's not bad. Would I take Weill again? Nope. Her lectures aren't bad but very very biased. Graded off weekly quizzes, exams, and gives you all day to do the exam online. The lectures aren't available the day of exams and all of the questions are "Which is most accurate" and its ANNOYING bc the answers are v similar
Weekly lectures and exams but they actually are pretty interesting and relative to what is in current news.
In regards to her online class, Professor Weill wasn't my average dose. Every single quiz or test question is, "Which of the following is most accurate." (paraphrasing) So, get ready to learn and work, cause there aren't ways of deciphering this class without great attention to detail. Her grading criteria is clear. Just survive for 3 exams.
I'm just going to save you the time and effort for continuing reading after my comment. RUN. AWAY. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM HER! I took 3355 an 4302 with her online and could not make a B to save my life!!!! I have never worked so hard in a class in my life and it did not pay off. The tests are horribly worded. Do urself a favor and don't
In order to really do WELL in the class, you have to spend hours working on each module and there are about 3-4 per test. You have to go through the lectures and write down every word because of how the tests are worded (which statement is most accurate). HINT: if the answer choices are"x, y, or x&y", always choose the one that includes all of them
Be sure to take down EVERY SINGLE WORD she says on the lectures and take very very detailed notes. Tricky test questions. Doesn't give feedback AT ALL on what you aren't understanding and how you can improve. You are on your own kid so good luck!
I LOVED Dr. Weill's classes (I also took 4302 at the same time). It was important to grasp every detail from the video lectures because the test questions were often word-for-word right out of those notes, but I got the hang of it quick and learned so much. Very inspiring teacher; sad to be done with my minor and out of the Mass Comm department.
After 4 years of taking any Mass Comm class, this has been the worst and hardest. The exams are horribly worded followed by the same exact question. The information provided On the online videos is outdated and not current. Makes you watch so many videos and read outside lecture to be able to get a decent grade on exams or quizzes.
Took this class online over the summer and the class consisted of 4 exams and about 16 quizzes. There is also 16 online lectures usually under 30 minutes. In order to do well in this class I recommend writing everything down word for word, printing out ALL the extra readings and outlines. A good grade is possible but be ready to put hours aside.
This is by far the worst professor at Texas State. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES. She only grades on quizzes and exams. Her exams are all worded Which statement is accurate? Each exam is 50 questions as well. Her lectures are long and boring. And she will not help you with your grade whatsoever. Once again do not take this lady. Ever.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. this is the hardest class. quizzes and tests the questions are, "Which statement is most accurate?" super hard trust me. i literally had to drop.
Every single test I've written her lecture WORD FOR WORD. Yet, can't seem to get above a B on the tests. I have near a 4.0 GPA after 4 years of college, so I know it's not that I'm lazy or an idiot. She purposely makes the test incredibly difficult. Would not recommend at all, and I'm not someone who uses quizlet, looking for an easy route.
Yes, the exams can be tough, but if you write everything down word for word you should be fine. She's always available through email since she does mostly online classes these days, and she always responds quickly. The exams are worded as such, "Which of these statements is most accurate", so be ready to be exact.
DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She only grades quizzes and tests and theyre RIDICULOUS. I honestly think she wants to fail everyone. I am an A+ student with a 4.0 that got ruined after taking her class. I literally help my phone to my laptop and used to talk to text to transcribe her lectures WORD 4 WORD and this did NOTHING for me. Neither did book.
Not a hard class. but also not easy. Online courses are usually easier than normal classes but not this one. Prepare to spend over an hour on each module because the tests and quizzes are mostly off what she says instead of whats on the slides. If you just take the time, youll do fine.
She provides an outline with everything you'll need to write down for the test. It is open note for the tests, but you'll definitely need to review before hand. She provides plenty of time to get the Modules done, but know that they are time intensive even though they are easy to complete. She responds quickly to emails! Don't skimp on your notes!
Lectures were ridiculously detailed, long and- despite that- I felt as if I did not learn a thing. I found myself getting so frustrated during lectures because of how fast she moved, and even though I studied, wrote stuff word for word, etc I'd end up with a B at best on quizzes and tests. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
3 Exams and lots of quizzes (2 per week). Her lectures range from 15 mins to an hour. Each lecture comes with fill in the blank word document you will need for your exams. Each lecture comes with a 5 question quiz. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE END TO TAKE THE QUIZZES! She does not allow extension of due dates so do your work on time.
I took this class for my elective and it has been the hardest class all semester. She gives you lectures to watch then extra readings/videos. The exams consist of picking answers that look the same but change of one word. Its timed and I didnt have enough time. I did everything she suggested and it was no luck for me. I wouldnt recommend her!
Professor Weill's is an okay professor. I wouldn't recommend her. The quizzes and test are pretty hard you have pick an answer that all look the same but change of one word, its very confusing. I suggest taking another professor.
Would not recommend But the quizzes and test are very hard and its difficult taking them because each question is "which is the most accurate" and will you three identical answers and change one word in each one. The lectures are long and she does give you a outline for them but if goes very fast during the videos.
Professor Weill is not a good professor. She doesn’t care about students and her class is extremely lecture heavy. Every and all questions on the test will be “Which is the most accurate” which in my opinion doesn’t help students actually learn the material. I would recommend you take another professor. I would rate her a 0 if I was able.
Not gonna complain, Im. just gonna recommend you dont take this class
Write down her answers for the outline word for word. Get ready for the tests to be about semantics. Copy and paste links to the readings from the modules into a document and download all PDFs into folders separated by modules on your computer. Being organized in this class is crucial. Material is interesting but the strict rules ruin the class.
She gives you one lecture per quiz. There are 16 quizzes total, each lecture is around 20ish minutes of powerpoints, and she will ask that you watch like three 10 minute videos and get relevant information from there too. You get minimum completion time and she locks assignments aka no working ahead. I'm not a comm major so this class is silly.
This class is awful. Should not be this hard because it is literally an ELECTIVE. That's what blows me. Why am I actively struggling in a class that should not be taking much effort? Your grades are based on just test and quizzes that are unreasonably timed. She will take things off of canvas come test day. All around 0/10!
To be fair, it's not that bad. There's two quizzes a week over her modules which always have a lecture video. It's not a blowoff class, but as long as you sit down and do the work it's not bad and I consider myself a pretty lazy student. However, her quizzes are worded in a way that the answers are pretty identical so you have to pay attention.
took this class about media and society hoping it would match the course description provided. Wrong. We learned about the most random stuff that was entirely unhelpful. Ah yes, I am so glad I learned about the movie rating systems of like 20 countries. That will certainly be relevant to me in the future. ALSO-THE MATERIAL TAUGHT WAS FIVE YEARS OLD
She makes "Which is the most correct?" quizzes that would be extremely irritating without her module notes. She is the toughest essay grader I've had in my life. The worst part is that she doesn't really convey how much she's taking off for what, so you're in the dark on her grading criteria. Play it safe and AVOID this instructor.
