hard teacher, you need to do many assignments.
You see you need a teacher that makes you put effort into your work. Ms Yoes is a good teacher very professional. At first I didn't like her style of teaching but then I realized that she was just trying to help me to be more educated.
Mrs. Yoes is a good teacher but makes you work a little just to get a passing grade. Plus she took like one day off a week for "personal" issues. She is a good teacher and with all the work you do learn more

She's an easy teacher but she's an unporganize person. Believe or not, she never records your paper. She just ask students to turn in the papers without grading them.SHe often comes to class late and takes a break longer than it's supposed to.

Prof. Yoes is a vibrant and motivating instructor. She introduces some awesome reading strategies, and the in-class presentations really stir things up for you right-brained people! She uses a text; you chose your own reading naterial!
She is so picky, asks a lot but don't give you clear direction. She treats everyone different(depend on her "personal" likes) Don't take her if you don't have to.
Unclear, always late, always asks strange questions that have no end...'nuff said.

You are either teacher's pet or else watch out. Went to her office hr many times, for essay help, she looked few min and said: go back and work on it alrite? With a smile on her face and throw me out. (The whole visit is less than 5 min) Don't be fooled by her smile. Worst Teacher EVER!

If you realy want to learn something, do not take her class.She will have you do projects that has nothing to do with reading.She often assigns hw that she does not even collect.She is not always clear on what she wants, and gets mad when you ask her to clarify it.Grades very much based on her mood.
All right, first of all if you're not that adept with the English language, don't take this class. She acts as if everyone has the same vocabulary and assigns projects that belong in a high school, not in college. For the love of God, don't take her if you're looking for guidance or want an easy class to advance to EWRT 1A!
Who gave her Teaching license? Everything/grades will be determine base on her mood. She likes students who kiss up to her. She lazy, forgetful, and ... She decided to let me know that I should drop her class on the dead-line of dropping period. She let me know that I failing her class without grading my papers. I doubted that she read them.
Although most of what everyone said is true,it's not as bad as they make it seem.She is very nice.If you show her(as w/any teacher)that you are serious about school and do your work, then you are good. As far as the projects,they are related to reading. It's called reading comprehension. Most comments sound like they are coming from young students.

She is a nice teacher when she wants to be. Her class is so boring and we do so many things that are pointless and useless in her lessons. It's a waste of time. Sometimes we spend the whole class time doing just ONE thing, like we're stupid and we don't get it. Her techniques DO NOT help u in your reading skills
She is not bad but I hope you have alternatives. She APPEARED to be nice but she only loves ppl who always gives opionions in class. Classes are easy but pointless. You can get gd marks if u reli contribute, but u never enjoy it. Sometimes she just makes u feel rejected. Not reliable and often moody.

wow where do i begin! i loved her outfits lol very interesting, and the sunglasses are a classic! but as for the class i felt that we did more writing than reading. it seemed to me that we were more focused on speaches and scrapbooks then actually reading. But Yoes knows what she is talikg about and its very clear what she wants from you.
Believe me she sucks. You will pass it easily if you try a little bit. But you will learn nothing and you will get to English 1A with nothing in your head. Not recommended

I had to take this class in order to get into 1A, her class is pretty much pointless and it seems like she makes everything up on the spot, however her class is really easy. First of all, this class is very easy if your english is efficient. One should not have any problem passing this class IF he attends most sessions and turns in most work. She is nice and not harsh at all. It is a relaxing class with no pressure. I passed this with minimum amount of effort and I found it fun and enjoyable.
She is a nice teacher and knows how2dress.I had her first thing in the morning and she always greeted everyone w/a :).If you do all the work she asks from you, she pretty much gives you full credit.The tech. she teaches to become better readers is what you will learn if you take a skills reading class.Great way to start eng. programs at DeAnza!
She is very disorganized. She assigns alot of papers and she grades them VERY HARD! She grades the papers as though you majored in English and you are a professional writer. She is very nice and helpful though. She also lets you rewrite papers, which is SUPER helpful. One bad thing is you do not know how you're doing in the class until the end!

Susan is a really nice person. He teaching skills are a little sloppy but what I loved about her was that she interacted with the class frequently! Stict attendance policy but if you communicate with her you can always work around things.

Yoes was extremely helpful and also pretty easy. Homework is a lot the first couple of weeks then it gets less.But the homework was easy!!!! I would definitely recommend her! Also try to come to class because we do more in class work then take home wok!

I hated going to class because it was very boring and she calls on you as well so you have to pay attention. I don't recommend this class but if there is no other choice so be it. Since all of the READ211 classes are always really hard to get into, I was erally lucky to get her class. I later realized that she didn't know what she was doing. We spent hours on useless assignments, she treats us like little kids, she's always late to her morning classes and she forces you to go on a field trip even if you can't make it.

Her assignments aren't hard but they are VERY time consuming. She canceled class frequently and she's ALWAYS late to class. There are a lot of group activities during class which I didn't find helpful at all. She's nice but very strict about attendance (ironically)

I am not sure why people don't like her. She's nice and helpful. It is a college class so you are required to complete work. It's an extremely easy A! English and math aren't really fun subjects so you can't expect class to be super fun, but it is fun. So much group work and you get to know your classmates. Close knit class. Recommend taking her.

Most of the time she is late to class. Although it is an easy class to pass she gives way too much homework that is pointless and the class work is very repetitive. She gives the class too much homework and takes way too long grading it. She takes a pass/fail class way too seriously

The homework is easy but very time consuming. If you do all the work, you will get an A. Also, if you get 90% or above of your overall grade a week before final, you will be exempted from it.
She treats you like a high school student, but it is a really easy class as long as you do all the work. There is too much homework though. She is pretty understanding. Don't come in late a lot, and she gives extra credit.
She's easy going. Great novel to read " The Samurai's Garden". Not many notes, quizzes are easy. Easy homework assignments (summary book's chapter), but it really time consuming. She is there for you to ask questions. Highly recommended, easy going class, you will pass!

This class really prepares you for college. It makes you study and work on the course almost every weekday for at least an hour or two. The homework is very cut and dry but very time consuming. Her tests are in-between hard and easy depending on your comprehension of the novel. Just do the homework and read the book and you'll pass with a breeze.

The homework is very time consuming, but easy to do if you keep up with your reading of the novel. Ms. Yoes does help you improve your reading level. The assingments we read were very interesting and so were the class disscusions. She cancels class very often. However, her homework assignments are very time consuming and must be done in her format.

She's very impatient when it comes to talking to her face to face but overall her class is easy to pass if you read the material she gives you. If you have a 95% by the end of the quarter, you are exempted from the final.
Gives out ridiculous amount of homework but does give you a reasonable amount of time to complete (about a week for some). Treats students like children and you have to leave your phone on her desk in order to go use the bathroom which is pretty dumb. Very forgetful and cancels class quite a bit. Should only take her class if the others are full.
Professor Yoes is a sweet lady, however the class may feel like the typical high school class or a dread. The class is easy to pass, just do all your work, follow directions and show up. If you get a certain amount of points, you do not have to worry about taking the final. Office hours are available by appointment, and she will gladly assist you.

It had begun. The quarter. My hopes and dreams to succeed had become so strong and heavy. But slowly.. overtime.. I felt the power I once had gradually give way to the pain and stress that had begun to develop, as it slowly started to engulf my life in flames. I began to contemplate if it was ever worth pushing myself through the pain. It wasn't.
Do not take this instructor. Assigns a ton of reading and unnecessary work, she forgets what she is talking about during classes and will change due dates. If a student has a different opinion she will shut them down. Mandatory field trip assigned on a day that isn't class time, and you must have a valid excuse not to go. Reminds me of high school.

I love Yoes, she is an amazing reading teacher. If you hate reading, you wont pass. Just read the books and do the homework. If you have a B or higher by the end of the semester, she doesnt make you do the final. Very confused sometimes though, she forgets really easily.
Professor Yoes is amazing. She works with you if you cant complete your work on time just let her know early on. Workload was just enough. Attendance is required. Participation is important so you have to be in class or youll get points deducted. Strict no cell phone policy. If you do all of your work, show up, and respect her, youll pass.

Worst teacher I have ever had in all my years of schooling, she cant keep track of papers and lost mine but still ended up blaming me. Her office looks like a tornado hit despite only having 1 class to teach. Very disorganized and hard to contact.
In the beginning, she told us that she'll teach us different writing techniques and how to better our writing. 75% of the quarter done and she only had 3 of our things graded, two weeks before it ends she made us do 2 group presentations and write and revise an essay we did at the beginning of the quarter. Easy A, but she is very unorganized.
I am currently taking her class and it's so frustrating. She is not clear on her directions for assignments and when we ask her to reclarify, she gives us another version of the same assignment. Moreover, its halfway through the quarter and we haven't learned anything. None of us know our grade in this class.

She is unreliable and does not play her part as a professor.
She is by far the worst professor I have ever had, she spends every class speaking about her religion and political beliefs instead of teaching. She cancels class and office hours on a regular bases. Has not graded a single thing all quarter long. Doesnt use canvas, no one knows how they are doing. Tried to suspend me for going to next class.
If you want to waste your time and energy, her class is the best spot. She is rude and want to fail you at all coast. She gives you a lot of pointless paper works but no feedback, so you won't learn anything from her class. She does not remember what she did in the previous class. You are not allowed to freely express your own ideas of the books.
Professor Yoes is more of an "old school" type professor, she doesn't use canvas so no one has an idea on what is going on or when assignments are due. She would constantly forget about what happened last class and is also unorganized. This class has only 3 major essays and some worksheets but other than that, I wouldn't reccomend.
Unorganized, didn't teach, and disappeared near the end of the quarter. If you're taking this class to pass and not learn, this is the prof you want. Super easy work, like I did middle school level workkk. Idk, but this class was a breeze and just a waste of time. You won't learn, but if you're not trying to, this class is definitely it.
