wow...all i can say about susana is wow, She is so funny and hot..did i mention how hot she is...And i LOVE when she gives us *bonus points* :)..She gota bring back the MUSTARD JACKAT :)
Susansa is a very funny professor, and thats about where my compliments stop. She does not react well to questions and fly's through material in class. Her tests don't look anything like the review materials she provides. Also she commutes from NYC so office hours are limited
Even though she seemed to go through the material quickly i still felt as though she cared about the students because she understood what it was like to try and grasp everything. People should give her a chance. Not everyone would be willing to commute back and forth from NYC to teach students.
she is a decent teacher if you go till the end. horrible at explaining things clearly, but will try and make up for it at the end..she gave our class a take home final which we did in class. if it hadnt been for that there is no way anyone could have passed that class
Susana is good teacher as long as you pay attention. Try to get into study groups. It helps! She usually ends up just giving everyone bonus points which jacks up your grades really good!
This lady is a joke. For my final she gave the class all the answers except five which we had to do on our own. She should not be teaching. I learned absolutely nothing from this lady. She gives out tons of bonus points to compensate for lacking of good teaching. She is very hard to understand because of her thick accent and she talks really fast.
Bad professor ! She doesn't explain things well and doesn't like when a student asks a question. Very rude sometimes. Not helpful at all. She thinks that the students have all time in the world to stop by her office so then she can aswer one simple question. Tests are not very hard. I don't recommend her.
she is hard to understand and has a weird sense of humor. her notes are not helpful for the hw. have to be in class to know what's going on. you miss a class and you will be lost. puts u in group which is stupid.
Dr. Yu is difficult at first. You definately have to slow her down if she moves to quickly for you. I think her workload was fair, in the regards that she wants you to know the material. She doesn't answer many questions in class, because she would like students to pass by office hours with their concerns. Overall, I would take her again.
cap budgeting can be hard..if you let it. she gives you notes bc the text is difficult to understand. she speeds through chapters, but if you study hard you could get an A. final is not mandatory if you're satisfied with your grade at the end of the first 2 tests. overall she was informative.
Horrible teacher, and i'm already 3 weeks into the course. Gets angry when a question is asked. She is rude! Obnoxious. Annoying. I thought she would be okay, but she turned out to be a nightmare.
She is hard but fair! I thought I was going to fail terribly, but her grading format is awesome and I managed to get an A. Drops the lowest test grade and counts your highest grade twice!! Just do great on your first test and no need to take the final! She talks very loud, very fast, and heavy accent, but teach yourself and you'll be fine.
AVOID! Just reads off of power point, with little to no explanations. She is also rather unprofessional, she fosters an environment for students to complain about other professor's at the college. She has a very poor sense of confidentiality, she grades your test in front of the class and then tells you your grade while everyone is listening.
lousy professor.
Stay focus in class follow her instructions, take notes and Past the first two exams...do well on the HW and the Game and you will have no problem...if you miss a class you will lose tract...try not to miss...She is a awesome professor but you have to work for your grade...she does not give any freebies
This woman is rude and do not understand students privacy. Awful teacher, take the class with another instructor. Everything about her and class is stressful, she does not promote a good learning environment and does not know how to teach. AVOID HER
Instead of teaching this Finance course, she should probably take some lessons in being polite and kind. She is nothing but rude and asking a question in class gets you into trouble. Makes you feel dumb at most times. She drops the lowest grade so that is a plus but other than that she is a nasty nasty teacher. Avoid her at all costs.
Susanna's class is like a roller coaster ride. 1 minute u think she's crazy, even rude, the next she's brilliant & clear. if u understand finance, u can follow her better. she moves very fast & expects u to keep up, which seems impossible if you DONT understant finance, like me!! but she is actually a kind person & really does care - good luck!
Okay, in the beginning i thought she sounded like the craziest woman alive. But, once you get her style of teaching, it's actually fun. She is loud but helps keep you awake. She allows 6 absences. She summarizes each chapter and posts on blackboard, so don't have to try and read the zillion pages from the book. In the end i thought she was the best
I also thought that Susana sounded like the craziest woman alive, one minute nice the next hyper, but the bottom line I could not understand her heavy accent. She should take a few English courses before teaching
Good Luck ... very different teaching style than any other professor .. Tests are fair, just study the notes, ppt slides, and class notes and you'll do fine. Attend the FMES meetings - a big help! Also, don't hold onto the pen (if you take her, you will understand) .. like I said earlier, GOOD LUCK!
Thought she was crazy when the semester started. You realize her passion for the material. Do well on the tests, do the homework, and get into a good group and you are SET! Prof. Yu is amazing, funny, and I wish she taught every FINC class at MSU.
Susana has a method that will blow you away at first, but she gets better- trust me. Study hard and get a good grade on the first two tests. Go to the FMES meetings, get a good group, do the homework!! study from the H/W and lecture notes for the tests and you will be fine! Oh and DON'T ask questions, even tho she says to, trust me...
She is crazy to say the least... She is a control freak, rude and very fast paced. Exams are fair though, study the homework and notes. AVOID if possible, she's not very pleasant, especially if she chooses to pick on you in class. Proceed with CAUTION if unavoidable.
She is awesome....she can be a little corky but teaches well and very fair when it comes to grading. You will know well ahead whats on the exam, no suprises there. Take her you won't regret it.
I had her for 326 AND 322. She's very loud, and although she was nice to me, I seriously disagreed with her teaching style. She writes notes on the board, and while she writes, you MUST keep your pen on the desk. I've never had a teacher who wouldn't let you copy notes until after she went through them. Easily one of the worst teachers I ever had
First it might look like she is different, but she is fair and good grader. Prepares you for test. If you do good on first two you don't have to take final. This is a plus. Don't say anything during class, you have to study yourself since She talks really fast. Study from the notes. No need to buy book. Now I think she is the best.
She is a great teacher, I strongly recommend her, tests are fair, she goes over hw and gives the right answers which is helpful to study for tests and quizzes. Extra credit available, you won't regret taking this class, she is a very fair grader.
If you can take someone else. No more extra credit, FINAL IS MANDATORY NOW, AND GIVES 5 LONG AND TIME CONSUMING CASES. Quizes were fair but she does not know how to teach.
SERIOUSLY the worst teacher I have ever had! I am an Accounting major and have never scored below a B+, but I was lucky enough to escape with a C+ for this course. She has no idea how to teach, and I learned absolutely NOTHING! Sure she gives your multiple choice exams, and a notecard to fill out and use, but don't be fooled. It doesn't help. GL
She is tough as mentioned previously but she is one of the best professors I've come across at MSU. She can come off as rude, but she is a great prof. I would take her again. Her 3 exams allow a note card and counts your best one twice. Walked out with an A, only take her if you try hard in classes and like to achieve.
I cannot believe that a college would allow her to teach a class. Her attitude is more like she's just there to collect a paycheck and go on her power trips. She has no respect for any of the students and in my opinion, does not deserve the respect of any student. I would be surprise to see anyone look at her as a role model or mentor in any way
You will do really good if you know the basics of finance,if not,you may have a little trouble in her class. she goes quick so it's best to review her notes and ppt before and after classes, she can be a little hostile when asking questions but she's nice though.
She’s very rude, extremely short tempered. If you get a good grade you defiantly deserve it because it was not based on her teaching style.
I actually really enjoyed this class. Her exams were pretty simple and are based off of everything she tells you to study from. She is a little fast paced and impatient but if you take the time to understand the concepts, you will succeed. Overall, I liked her a lot and would re-take her again for other finance classes.
She's very short tempered and you can't interrupt her or ask for clarification. She'll tell you to check your class notes, if she's in a good mood she'll answer your questions. However, she is a fair grader, tells you exactly what to study for and drops the lower grades out of 3 exams. If you don't mind her temper and want to learn - take her.
Seminar was difficult than other seminar sections but did learn A LOT from the semester long project. don't take her if you slack and want the easy way out, she makes you work for your grade..what effort you put in is how much you get out of the course.
If you take her seminar class, enjoy the all nighters doing your capstone project. I learned a lot but also took on a great amount of stress, I taught myself more with the project than she did in class. She has a secretive side and a few helpful things up her sleeve towards the end of the semester. You will get through it though.
She's crazyyyy but I love it and hate it. She gives you everything you need to learn. (notes, powerpts, answers to hw/pop quizzes) and even lets you bring in an index card of anything you want to the exam but you have to study and keep up with her. She goes mad fast. Overall I did learn alot from her than I did from Mezziani.
"D" is for doggy, "C" is for meow...(those who took her would know what I mean); Susana is quite quirky, but fair. Exams are straight forward and nearly identical to her lecture notes and h/w. Be patient. Towards the end of the semester she had some pleasant surprises up her sleeve (i.e. one take home exam and a group exam).
After the first class, I wanted to drop this course so bad. I do not like her teaching style, but she is a fair grader. She gives you everything you need for exams. If you do good on first exam, then you don’t need to take the 2nd exam, but final is mandatory plus there is a group project (paper and presentation). Not easy class.
Susanna Yu is extremely rude and loves to belittle her students. What she needs to understand is the students are keeping her employed. She gives weekly quizzes and daily HW. The textbook is useless and her lectures just as bad. Study as much as you can from previous quizzes and HW assignments. Most of the course is group work.
Make sure you go to class. No need to jot everything down because she gives her own lecture notes. Quizzes and Projects in group. Very easy. Exams are straight from lecture notes and previous exams/quizzes. Easy. She is harsh, rude but awesome. I loved her class. Be nice to her otherwise you are screwed. Do NOT ask stupid questions...not here!
The only difficult part of this class in the group project. She doesn't help you with it and it requires a LOT of time and teaching yourself. You pick your group so make sure you pick the right people. The tests are all of the homework questions we go over in class. Lowest grade is dropped of the 1st 2 exams- final is madatory.
by far the worst prof i have taken at Montclair. The tests and course materialbook is easy enough but the GROUP PROJECT is complete hell and she gives little to no guidance at all. Most of the financial models that are needed in the project are not even lectured on. they seriously need a financial modeling class as a prerequisite for this class.
The word "Satan" comes to mind when I think of Susanna. She is TOUGH, NOT clear, and you better enjoy group projects. Overall, I did learn a lot .... on my own. She's the devil in disguise and I would not miss a class. However, it is all do-able, and she isn't that bad of a grader.
Although alot of people didn't like her class, I did! If you pass her first exam you don't have to take the 2nd one. However, the final was a little tough but if you prepare a good index card hen you'll be fine. Just make sure you know what to study. I would recommend you take her class if you want to learn. JUST KEEP UP, SHE WRITES FAST!
Susana has strong accent and hard to understand, she is temperamental and erratic, you have to teach yourself, I would not recommend her
She's funny and knows what she's talking about. Her class is extremely fast paced and she refuses to explain anything twice so if you can keep up and understand her accent while figuring out the problems you'll be fine.
Tough course and confusing professor. Difficult to understand and goes over material very quickly. Quizzes are closed book but in groups. Tests you are allowed one small index card for formulas (and there are lots of them!) We barely use the text book but it is helpful to teach yourself at home because you will have to!
Love her 2 tests drop the lowest + final , one group project very nice Prof , however you need to get used to her speed she is really fast but extremely nice and helpful take her
Susana is a polarizing professor. Extremely low tolerance for BS and will push you out of your comfort zone. Don't expect her to baby you and repeat things as many times as you see fit. If you're intrinsically motivated and can handle stress, you'll be fine. Allows a double-side index card for exams. Show her strong effort and she'll reward you.
Susana is bitter sweet. She can get a little crazy during lectures and is a little hard to understand but her tests are based on the HW and the pop quizzes so if you study/review those for the tests and make a good index card you'll do good.
Very temperamental, teaches really fast, writes really small. Belittles students and most of all cannot teach. Crazy is the word. you will not learn anything from her, i dont even know who she thinks shes teaching when she talks.
No, just no. Avoid this professor at all costs. She is one of the worst professors I've had. Her class consist of her writing down equations on the board, and not explaining what they mean at all. She asks you to ask questions and then when you do she yells at you. Only upside is that her test is basically all questions from the HW.
Susana is one of the greatest professors. She is sweet, funny, & cares about her students. She covers material clearly. There is a group quiz every other week, two midterms (drops the lowest) & a final - part of the final is take home which is 20% of your final grade! Do well on one of the midterms & the final and you'll get an A Susana is awesome!
I get what everyone is saying but if you don't get an A or B in this class its bc you didn't study at all. She's terrible at explaining things and her lectures make absolutely no sense, however, her exams are literally the same questions from the hw. Memorize the hw and you'll def get a B minimum. I would def take her again for an easy A.
Susana is pretty rude and mean and has no consideration for students' thoughts an opinions. Don't bother asking any questions because she will ridicule and embarrass you. If you have her for summer, be ready for group HW assignments, group pop quizzes, and one group project. There are two exams back to back, but she's a lenient grader.
Susana is a very good professor... if you pay attention. She is very knowledgeable. You MUST know what you're talking about if you're going to participate. She pushes her students, especially in the summer, to succeed you must know the material. Most of these ratings are from FINC 300. My guess is they were non-finance majors, expecting an easy A.
First day of class I thought she was crazy, but by the end I loved her. Lectures are super important and she will just go 900 mph writing on the board, but her notes are posted online and exactly like the exams. "Pop" group quizzes a lot of the time, but they aren't bad if you guys break up in pairs and take a question or 2 each. Would take again!
She is rude.
If she tells you to drop the class because you are failing DONT DO IT!! Just because you fail the first two exams doesnt mean you are failing even thou she says so... you still have the final and the take home is 20% of your grade. She is just rude and I guess you have to learn how to deal with her..
Theres no reason why you shouldn't get an A or B in this class. Literally study the Hws and its the same as the test. She also gives you a take home final worth 20%. Yes her lectures are a bit crazy but study the Hws and your fine. Would take her again no doubt.
She can teach I guess. But she is rude and has no respect for people.
She is very rude. Gets mad when you take notes during class, she has you take a picture of the bored. How will I actively learn by not taking notes? She yells when you ask a question, yet a professors job is to be caring and teach effectively. Only good thing is she is very straightforward with everything
Having her class is unlike any other. Shes fast, really fast BUT you have a good chance at doing well! Two midterms, the lowest grade is dropped and a final which a big part is take home plus getting a grade on the Bloomberg terminal. If you do really, really well on one of the tests, you probably wont even need to take the in class final.
Avoid
so not inspiring, robotic, boring
Professor Yu is a finance guru. However, her online teaching method is rather monotonous, which makes a boring class more boring. The power point provided contained some errors but if you read it thoroughly and understand the concept, the test should be passable with an A. Her homework and discussion requirements are more than fair.
Professor is rude and unhelpful. Her directions arent clear and she gets easily frustrated when you ask questions. Her lectures are very boring/robotic and uninspired. Does not relate any material to the real world work environment. Avoid.
I've never written a review for a professor, but after taking this one I had to. DONT TAKE HER!!!! She is the worst professor I have ever encountered. She reads directly from the powerpoints and does not teach. Be prepared to teach yourself. She gets mad when you ask questions. Very rude, and disrespectful "Teacher". TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE!!!!
The worst teacher I've ever had in my life. Reads directly off the power point. Her "teaching" is giving you the answer and asking if you got that answer. When you ask her a question she gets NASTY. If her online lectures were recorded she would probably get fired. Avoid at all costs.
Professor Yu herself will admit shes rough around the edges or salty as she said. Aside from that she goes over homework with the class before its due, she has good moments that made me laugh, and helped me get registered for the CFA. I would definitely take her class again for the fact she makes the class easy so we can focus on the material.
Very easy. Exams are similiar to her lecture notes. You can do really good on one exam and not take the final. This professor is very understanding, and funny even though she can be seem as rude at times. Make sure you have a good group to help you with the homework and case studies. The book was only used for the case studies.
Without a doubt the RUDEST professor I have ever had, maybe even the rudest person I have ever met (and I worked retail...). If you ask a question in class, she will degrade you in front of EVERYONE and make you feel like an idiot. Why be a professor when you refuse to teach? She should be fired, I should've recorded the things she said to students
Dr. Yu is a bit abrasive but she does care deep down. She is intense because she wants students to learn the material. She is fair as she does not make any exceptions regardless of reason for assignments. Homework is a big part of your grade so do it well and perfectly. Her class is really not that bad. Pay attention and do the homework.
I honestly don't know why her rating is low. She is an easy professor as long as you do the work. Work is not hard at all either. Once you get over the first chapter/test, it is super easy from there trust me. Would definitely take again!!
I don't know why her grade is low, I loved this class. I am the worst with numbers and got a 97%. Her class has the highest grade average of all FINC classes. 4 tests taken all at home, no quizzes and very simple homework. She cares deep down but sometimes is a little rude but I thought she was super funny in class. I suggest taking this class!!!
Took this class in the summer. The material is tough, she goes super fast and she can be a bit rude but overall she wants everyone to pass. We had 4 exams, all were online at home. (they were exactly like the hw) The lowest grade was dropped & the highest grade was used twice. All hw was done in groups. Easy A if you do all the work.
Took this class in the summer. The material is hard & she goes super fast and she can be a bit rude but overall she wants everyone to pass. We had 4 exams, all were online at home. (they were exactly like the hw) The lowest grade was dropped & the highest grade was used twice. All hw was done in groups. Easy A if you do all the work.
Took this class during the summer course. Her quiz is exactly the same as the homework and all the homework is done in the groups which is easier. She can push you a lot but she wants everyone to pass her class. One of the top finance professor inn montclair.
Professor is a little crazy overall, but she is super easy. 3 exams take first 2 and if you're happy with your grade you won't have to take the final. She has discussions that are pretty simple, no projects and homework is in groups so its pretty cool not work heavy!
She is crazy! She will ask if you have any questions and if you do, she will yell at you! She also talks too fast and you can't really learn anything from her. You take the quizzes at home so that's a plus. You will easily get an A as long as you do the discussions and the quizzes.
The overall material was hard and complex. She expects students to do the work and promotes teamwork. She provided ample time for assignments and made the homework available immediately. Tests are done from home and the grading scale was fair. I definitely recommend it if you want to pass.
out of all the other Finance prof in school I would say she's the best. the exams are basically a copy of the homework so if you knew what to do in your homework you'll do just fine during the exam. her exams are done online make sure you attend the first class because she explains how her class will go and how she grades
Truly an extremely rude professor. She doesn't care about her students whatsoever, is only interested in saying what she has to, does not answer any questions asked by students, and ignores important concepts. She reads directly off of her presentations. It is amazing how she received a PhD as she has no idea what she's talking about.
I wouldn't take her again. She's rude and teaches very fast. Along with that she has a heavy accent.
At first I really did not like the class as she makes you handwrite a lot of work. She grew on me and the work got easier over time. Exams are at home and she is pretty funny.
submit all HW is a group setting. she can be rude so if you are sensitive don't take her. she explains how her class goes in details and what you need to do to pass her class. pay attention to Homework as her exams come from homework mostly. go to her class with an open mind and willingness to listen and you'll do just fine.
In this course Professor Yu is lecture heavy, it is needed as advanced investments is a complex topic. Every week the homework is group based and she sends updates throughout the week. She has gone above and beyond to help my group. She responds to emails within a day. Course was difficult but she was always there. Learn how to scan hw for tests!
This professor will make your experience extremely difficult. She makes you plug in numbers into formulas she put on the board to check if you know the concepts. She expects you to grasp the difficult concepts on your own. If you ask a question she will not give you a helpful answer and instead refer you to your group (who also do not understand)
The class has its challenges, but engaging with the structured approach helps. The at-home exams and flexible homework make it manageable. Unstuckstudy proved useful for study prep.
NEVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR; she is not a good person. Although the class is easy to pass, being in the actual class is terrible. She is so rude and would make students cry by yelling at them even when they didn't do anything or simply asked for help. She goes so fast during the lecture and sometimes will yell at you for taking notes.
The absolute worst teacher Ive taken while attending this college. Has no sympathy for students whatsoever, if you're late by even a minute on an assignment she will grade it a 0. Very rude and cold-hearted individual who does not care about her students. Stay away!
I'm taking this class currently. Why on god earth is our FIRST homework assignment 89 questions... Just wanted to let y'all know. Bc this is crazy. I'll post an update if I end up finishing this class
this professor is so unprofessional to the point that if you had made a mistake in her class, she will put you on blast. if you even dare to ask her anything, she will get mad and crashout on you for nothing. she loves to assign group projects and basically have to do a 10 pg paper and present, core paper, hwk, and discussion post.
