she's really clear on the subject she lectures, however, her tests are hard as hell. you have to apply the psyc concepts to questions(which are MC) and the answers are minutely different from one another (very tricky)

Come on people, get real!! If you crack a book now and again, you might actually pass!! She is one of the best professor I have ever had. If you're not going to study, why the hell are you in school to begin with! Do yourself a favor, take her class; I promise you'll learn something!

This was a great class. We had 4 tests and a project. Her lectures were straightforward and clear. I got a 97+ without studying for anything. She gives extra credit points. I have no idea why everybody thinks she's so hard.

Excellent professor. Provides stimulating lecture and invites student input. As long as you take good notes and read the book you should do fine in her class. Tests are multiple choice with clever wording, so be careful! If you like to think, take her class.

I think her lectures are good. They keep me awake and her class makes me work for the grade. I like that.

Excellent Teacher. Very Interesting. Her test are so deeply worded that if you are not extremely familar with the information you will fail. I made a "B" but only because of my project grade. I made low C's and D's on all of her test.

She definately knows her stuff. She fun, lets you print out her lecture notes, and she seems to enjoy her work. Since taking her class I have been considering changing my major. Tests are multiple choice. She has alot of fun discussions and the class is really involved!

I have come to this college on and off since the 80's...she is one of my top three favorites! I loved her class!

Very interesting lectures and very easy to understand. Very hard tests. Know like definitions and all for the tests. If you read the section that you are going to be doing then u will do good on her daily quizes (1 question). She is really fair.

I LOVE her. You really DO have to study, though, and really well. But she knows what she's talking about and really cares about her students.

Good teacher..shes smart but hard. Her tests killed me and others..despite out other outstanding grades in other classes. study and take notes for tests. her projects are easy and fun. shes nice and some what comical but do show up every class session. she give extra credit for attendence and work effort. oh..lots of reading is included!

Don't take her class just because you couldn't think of something to fill up your schedule. This is a semi-difficult class that requires a lot of extra effort and major studying. But she is extremlely knowledgable and friendly and treats her students like her equals and she's willing to help you out if she can see that you're trying your best.

I did well in this class but I'm really interested in psychology AND I had a fairly easy schedule at the time so I could dedicate a lot of time to this class. You WILL be expected to read. She can seem kind of dry/dull, but you just need to open her up. It helps if there's a class clown.

Great Teacher!!! Yes she did go off subject quite often but she knows a lot about psychology. If you care about your classes and want to make good grades then you will get an A in this class!!

She was really cool. She explained details very well using good slide shows. She gives lots of homework and you should study for her tests, but you really do learn the material.

She grades hard and her tests are difficult/ very in depth. she has slides during lectures... can sometimes go off on tangents and the class requires a lot of reading. i passed with a D BUT could have done better if I actually read. If you want to be lazy, take a different teacher. If you want to actually learn something, take her.

Dr. SD-P is very informative and interesting in her lectures. It's true that she isn't very interested in giving help to people who need it. She seems to have a "too bad" mentality towards those who might be struggling. However, if you pay attention in class, read the text, and study, you should do fine on the tests.

Wonderful professor! So knowledgeable. She wrote the book she uses for this class. She'll get you a deal on the study guide/book combo. Tests were so easy if you look over the study guides in the study guide book. Her stories are great and apply to everything you learn.

She is an excellent teacher. You can learn a lot of interesting material that you will use in everyday life. She is helpful if you go to her. SHe gives extra credit to bring up your grade. Very encouraging. I was lucky to get her. But you have to study as you go along. Cannot cram and expect to do well.

Dr. DP is a pretty cool lady. She will tear you apart on the final project though. It's kind of scary actually, definitely put some time into it. If you read and participate, the class will go smoothly. You will get the grade you deserve. I liked her, but I wouldn't reccomend her class with a full schedule.

I like her!! She is a little tough, but you just have to take the time to study and ready the book (which she wrote)... Lectures are fun because she actually TALKS with you, not at you... She's pretty cool!

Good intro to psychology. read the book, particpate in the discussions and do the work. you can pass if you take the time to study.

She knows her stuff since she wrote the book. Just lectures and a couple assignments you should put effort into bcuz theres not alot of grades in the class. Her tests arent horrible; just make sure you study and know the majority of the info & dont leave the research project last min! start early and do well! you have to work hard for your grade.

First off, she wrote the book. Therefore, she sticks to it. But he tests were the hardest that i have ever taken in any subject. Challenges you to do the readings. Great teacher, loved her style. but very difficult class.

Very Fair Teacher! You definitely have to work for your grade. Her tests are not easy yet if you've been doing your reading and studying your notes you should be fine! Try to read what she will letter in class prior to going it will really help you to understand the material and memorize it. I would definitely take her again if possible!

Great professor I loved her teaching style!Read the chapters required before class & lecture will go smoothly. Make sure you study your notes & the text for test. She expects high quality for the final project & it's a group, so get them together as soon as you know who they are. Your grade will be doomed if you do not have everyones participation!

This class was very challenging. It took everyone a while to get used to her testing style. READ THE BOOK religiously and you will do fine. I failed my first two test because I studied my notes but made a 95 on the last because I just read the book.

She is a great teacher. She uses her own book, but she gives the profits to some sort of charity fund. One of the benifits of it though, is that she follows the book pretty head on. You should read. I read at the beginning. I found the first third of the class to be the most difficult. She is some what difficult but its fun and easy enough to learn

This class is a very difficult class. She really will help you if you ask. But if you are not willing to work for a grade then do not take the class. The tests are difficult but the class is rewarding. Wonderful lady!

Dr. DP is a great teacher. She really enjoys psychology and discussion with the class, not just speaking at the class. Her first test is hard if you don't have some biology knowledge but all of her tests are straight from the book and the package includes a study guide. Group project is kind of hard;start early. Test ?s are application questions!

Great teacher, but a hard class. You have to know the material, and take the time to study for tests. Stay on top of the reading (it is a must) and use the study guide that comes with the book before the tests and you will do fine!

Really good but a hard teacher and really clear too. She gives some homework but it's usually really simple. She gave extra credit on Aplia this semester which helped a lot in her class. She will answer your emails in a timely manner. Make sure you read the book before class. She knows a lot about what she's teaching. Good Prof.

All I ever did was read the chapter and passes my test with all A's. She tests on one chapter at a time so studying is easy to keep up with. I loved this class.

The best professor! She is willing to help and explains content really well. The class and content is hard, but one of the best classes. Go to every class and lab and you'll be ok. Be sure you know the material from the beginning!

She is a tough teacher, but very nice and always willing to help and answer questions. Her final is set in a completely different format than the tests during the semester. Make sure you pay close attention to SPSS WHEN she teaches it and take notes on how to analyze the outputs because that is a huge part of the final.

You watch alot of videos over material, some lectures are3 boring but attendence does matter for participation grade, but you could still pass by missing classes and looking at powerpoints online daily. Test are generally easy as long as you take notes and there arent many.

The course was difficult, but it was a 4000 level course which is to be expected. There was a lot of reading outside of class, but her lectures also went over the material very well and she is EXTREMELY knowledgeable and never hesitated to answer our questions. It is NOT an easy A, but if you are really in school to learn, take her class!

This class was more difficult than I expected. BUT, I walked away with a better appreciation of what is expected of us in order to complete this undergrad program and succeed once we are finished. She is really great but she will make you work hard for your grade. If you put in the work, you'll come away with a better understanding of psychology.

I took 5 courses with her. I also worked with her closely on several projects. Dr. Portillo was without question the most positive influence on my college career. Knowledgeable, genuinely compassionate, and supportive, don't let her rigorous teaching methods alarm you. She knows how to prepare you for life after your bachelor's degree

If you are a psychology major i strongly recommend taking her class. Her class can be challenging at times but she is more than willing to help you if needed. If you read the textbook often it helps. The devotion and professionalism she has comes out through her desire to prepare you for your path in the psychology field.

Dr. Doyle-Portillo is a very knowledgeable woman and a good professor for her class. However, there's little opportunity to bolster your grades and you have to read extensively to pass because many of the concepts don't appear in her lectures. In her Social Psychology course, your final and 3 of 4 highest test scores make up 80% of your grade.
