Too easy
A very good course to show students how to research academic sources. The focus on climate change opened my eyes about the huge problems we face. I learned so much about climate change and the environment, and Prof. Bentley is pretty tough about analyzing sources. Take this course from her if you can.
I enjoyed the class. Although online classes tend to be more involved (despite what some would think) I enjoyed the class. I also enjoyed the global warming aspect.
Professor Bentley was very helpful. I really enjoyed having her as a professor!
I liked this class. I found it both interesting and useful. It was probably one of my favorite classes so far.
This professor was very helpful and very easy to understand all instructions that she gave. I would highly recommend this professor for a class.
I have not been the greatest student this semester, but Professor Bentley keeps kicking my butt to do a good job. I am not the greatest writer, and she gives me a lot of feedback. She did not give up on me. I think this is the first English class that I actually learned something in. Yes, I recomend taking a class from Prof. Bentley.
I enjoyed this class a lot. Professor Bentley spent a lot of time helping me and left tons of comments on my paper to help improve my writing.
Professor Bentley is a wonderful teacher. She is very caring and helpful to her students. I found the workload a little overwhelming at times, but I can safely say I learned a lot.
The professor was helpful and the class was moderately interesting. This class definitely improved my writing skills.
I took this class a high school senior who wanted to get a college credit. If you are not willing to dedicate a decent amount of time to this class, don't take it. I found this class very helpful for my future endeavors.
Great class! I really enjoyed it and the teacher was great! If you not comfortable with essays you may find this course a challenge.
Great teacher! She was really helpful, and made things pretty clear!
Professor Bentley is a great teacher. This class is a lot of work but you will learn how to write a research paper.
Mrs. Bentley helped a lot. She always helped with finding mistakes and helping me fix them.
Professor Bentley makes assignment instructions very clear, and offers sufficient feedback for students to learn and correct themselves. She's an excellent and caring professor, and I'm glad to have had her as an instructor for this class.
She was very helpful. Good with one on one.
She did a wonderful job, I appreciated her enthusiasm for students to learn the material needed for the class. She did a wonderful job.
Very pleased with class and assignments given. Enjoyed the interest that she showed in helping students learn and understand concepts.
This was an online speech class, and I was really intimidated about taking it. Prof. Bentley had our class work together in groups and make online videos. We also watched a lot of othe students videos, and the class was really good. I think the website may have had some issues, but Prof. Bentley did a really good job. I learned A LOT and recommend
I did not enjoy this teacher. She does not make certain requirements clear in the assignment, and when giving feedback she tells what is done wrong but gives nothing in return to help fix the mistake. I enjoy English class, but not this teacher.
Pleasant instructor who is dedicated to helping students. Engaging content and sufficient time given for completion of assignments. Very nice. I learned a ton and enjoyed it all!
Very helpful. I enjoyed this class.
This teacher did a great job in teaching the material. very glad i had her as my professor
Very helpful and willing to answer students' questions. Class assignments were not hard to understand and we were given ample time to complete them. Had high expectations from students.
I really enjoyed this teacher. She was very helpful and really cared about her students.
Overall I enjoyed this class, but I never felt challenged by it. The few major assignments that we did were large and had a complex rubric, but I thought they were graded too easily. She was alwasy helpful though and always asking if she could answer any of our questions. If the course work had been harder, I might have had some questions to ask...
This professor really cares about students and she gives us a lot of time to complete assignments. Every assignment is clear and we know what is expected. I would like to take another class from her.
This is my first college class, and I feel like I learned a lot. There is a lot of work, but it helped me get my research paper figured out. Professor Bentley will help you if you are having trouble, and she is a kind and caring lady. Great class.
The videos we watched helped me understand climate change. I also learned about researching. Ms. Bentley has high standards for her students, so don;t take this class if you are not interested in working hard.
Very good for being the first online speech class. Very helpful and clear on the instructions of the assignments.
I learned a lot from Professor Bentley. I think it will be very useful to know how to write outlines and present speeches in life.
Great course, Learned a lot.
I took Professor Bentley for both English 101 and 102. I couldn't have asked for a better English Professor, I learned a lot and really enjoyed her class. She is so helpful and teaches very well. I can't wait to take what I have learned from her and put it to good use!! I promise you won't be disappointed with her class.
I'm taking English 101 as a high school student. Professor Bentley's assignments are very detailed and her expectations are clear. She gave me good feedback on all of the assignments, and I will take English 102 from her. Online classes are harder and not for everyone, but Mrs. Bentley makes this class pretty easy and understandable. Great class!!
Overall good experience. Would be better if we had more feedback on our grades throughout the term. We are finished with the class and I don't know if I will have a F or an A.
Professor Bentley is kind and caring. She gave me a lot of encouragement to pursue my research topic, and she is open to ideas that are different from the mainstream. I know how to do college research now and find the best sources.
I was nervous about taking a public speaking course, and this online course fit my schedule. It felt weird at first to talk to my webcam, but our assignment s were structured to help us get better at organizing our speeches. So, by the end when I did my job interview speech, I felt like I did a really good job and can use this for my interview.
I learned a lot about organizing a speech, creating outlines and rehearsing the speech. If you take this course online, you are not speaking in front of a live audience, but working in peer groups gives you an audience and feedback. I feel more confident now about giving speeches because I know how to prepare and organize them.
This was my most fun class this semester. Professor Bentley is very helpful, and having a speech class online with videos is a convenient way to take this class.
GOOD TEACHER
I took the class as a summer course and Prof. Bentley did a good job at making sure we were on top of our work. I liked that each assignment had very clear instructions.
Great teacher!!
I found that she was very helpful in coming up with a research topic. She provided many resources for us to use.
I really like this instructor. She was very clear in what she expected from her students, and she gave timely feedback. I really enjoyed the class, and I liked the format.
I enjoyed this course
Lots of work on analyzing sources. I did not like that at first, but now that I am actually writing my paper, I see how much that helped me understand different kinds of sources.
I took English 102 with Professor Bentley. She is a wonderful teacher. Her assignments are never vague and she always provides completed example assignments for larger projects. She provides ample material for her students to study. I would, without a doubt, take another class from her in the future. Do yourself a favor and take her class!
Textbook is online, read a chapter & take quizzes once a week.
Professor Susanne Bentley was very polite and helpful. She gave very good feedback on my assignments. Thank you!
I appreciate Susanna taking the time to make things clear.
I got a lot out of this class; definitely improved my confidence in public speaking.
This was a fairly easy class as long as you kept up with the assignments. Instructor answered questions in a timely manner and seemed helpful.
This was one of the first classes that I took online, and being able to work on college from home is really convienient, especially for this class. I was also able to develope good speaking skills to help me later on in life.
I really enjoyed taking this class, not only can I work from home, but I can also work on my own schedule. Susanne has been a great teacher, and has worked with me when I had trouble with the program, and when I got sick and when my internet was down, she shows compassion that a lot of teachers lack. I hope to be lucky enough to meet more like her
A lot of reading done in this class. The discussions are sparse when they are required and the papers not very bad. Hardest part was coming up with what to do for my thought papers, not much guidelines to the papers which made it difficult to come up with a concept.
I only took this class because it was required for the major, I actually hate journalism. I didn't like the textbook and felt that it was not helpful. I had trouble understanding some of the assignments and felt like they were not as helpful as they could have been.
A lot of reading. I wish that there was more explanation of what was expected for thought papers. The guidelines for those were unclear. Earlier i accidentally described this course in my evaluation for COM101. :( Sorry.
Miss Bentley is a tough teacher. I felt like she was stuck up and too good for taking suggestions on how to improve the class.
This class was amazing for getting students familiar with how to write for different kinds of media. The professor gives helpful feed back to improve your writing.
Professor Bentley is a fantastic professor with high expectations and a huge heart.
Professor Bentley is a fantastic and caring teacher with high expectations
Great instructor!
Professor Bentley helped me out whenever I emailed her a question. Writing was a hobby before this class but now I'm thinking of working it into a career of some sort. I definitely recommend her class.
professor Bentley is awesome teacher. she is very understandable so don't be nervous about speeches. she makes everything so clear and is willing to always help every student as much as she can. I really loved this class.
She is nice and fun teacher!
I would definitely taking it again from this teacher, she is fun and easy going. She is very opened to questions and is willing to help her students. She makes class fun and makes you feel comfortable with speeches.
Public speaking course-did an excellent job encouraging the class to get up and speak and supporting everyone through nerves and anxiety. High attrition, I think we ended with about 13 to 12 of the students who started due to people preferring to drop the class rather than make a speech in public. Be prepared to get up and talk!
Have taken for two separate courses now. Also great professor for English.
I took COM 101 online it was a good class and Professor Bentley was very helpful whenever I needed assistance as well as she would give very good feedback on assignments.
She has high expectations, but if you put a lot of effort into your work then you'll be okay. It's a fun class and a great opportunity to research something you're interested in.
She is pretty open to about anything and is one of the most helpful professors that I have had.
Professor is very clear in what she expects from you. You have to put in a little effort but all the resources are available to you!
This class was the best class I've taken this semester, professor Bentley is an amazing teacher super easy goinf, funny and makes the class so much fun. Public speaking is a lot of people's fear, but professor Bentley made me feel comfortable enough to stand in front of a class and give a speech with no problem.
this class was really helpful, It helped improve my writing ability by a lot. I love the way the class was set up it made it easy for m turn in my assignments and be able to read so thank you.
I liked my Com101 class. I learned many aspects of public speaking. I feel like Professor Bentley was stretched pretty thin, and because of this didn't take as much time with feedback as she could have.
This Professor was one of the best ones I have ever had. If you have a problem she is right there to help you understand. She is firm but very helpful.
Professor Bentley is very thorough in her instructions when she assigns things to do. Not only is she understanding of student's needs, but she tries not to swamp her students with too much work. This year she stepped up and took on more classes to teach to help the English department and still managed to keep up with grading and taught very well.
Good class, knowledgeable teacher who is there to help her students succeed. She is flexible and understanding as well.
Professor Bentley is an excellent teacher for my English course. She is not that strict and very helpful to any English assignment you are stumped at.
I really enjoyed this class and was able to see personal growth. Received positive feedback.
Professor Bentley was a great teacher this semester. She is really helpful and gives great feedback. I enjoyed taking this class from her, and I would take other classes from her in the future.
This professor, although appears to be extremely busy with other classes, does give amazing feedback. She has a huge amount of professionalism in the way she writes, and demonstrates this in her comments on our papers.
This is the second class that I have taken from Professor Bentley. She is great! Loved the feedback.
Had a great time taking the class and would definitely recommend to all those considering it.
She's a good professor. Took her online, but learned a lot and got good at giving speeches.
Class was better than I expected it to be.
She was a great professor, and whenever you had a question she would get back to you very quickly, and help you understand more.
I took the course online. Professor Bentley was very helpful and was always quick to reply when I had a question.
This professor is a very good professor and is very helpful
This class was very interesting and inspirational. It was different than the usual classes taken as this one made one think of another culture that is important to better understand history in the making from another point of view. Professor Bentley is an excellent teacher as I have had the privilege of taking other courses from her. Great course.
She's a great teacher
This class ended up being a lot of fun, so do not be discouraged by the amount of assignments there are throughout the semester. The majority of the assignments will only take 10-15 mins to complete, the majority of our time will be spent reading, preparing, and "shooting" your speeches.
Great class and great teacher.
Professor Bentley has a wonderful personality and teaching style; she shows interest in her students and is very clear in what she expects in her class. I would love to have her again if I were given that choice.
An amazing professor!
Great class
good class , help me alot to loose my fear of speaking on public and how to do a speech more interesting.
Sweetest lady ever but gives helpful criticism as well
I learned so much about Native American culture in this class. Professor Bentley organized great discussions, and we learned what the history books never tell you. I found this class and the professor to be very inspirational. I will definitely take another class from Prof. Bentley. She also gives good feedback and helps you improve your writing.
The class was really easy, but she was really confusing. She was always messing with technology and could never get it to work, and most of the class was just her working on the tech. There was never any quizzes/tests, only papers. I didn't learn anything from her, and she graded really easily. Take her if you want an A without doing anything.
So far, I have enjoyed having Susanne Bentley for both my English (ENG 101 and ENG 102) classes. She has taught me so well on using new techniques for English writing from understanding Scholarly Journal Articles to writing awareness when writing essays that involve persuasiveness.
Fantastic class! I enjoyed it thoroughly. I especially loved that in discussions she wanted our OWN WORDS and not the words of some critics. She appreciated what we really thought. :)
I very much enjoyed this class as it gave me the opportunity to excel in writing and my professor helped very much!
This teacher is very specific about what she wants, and if you get below a D on anything it is advised you drop the class to avoid failure. If you cannot handle that, do not take the class. You can pass it if you do all the work, but only if you put the time into it.
Lots of speeches but filling out the outline before really helps. Great professor! Good feed back.
good professor
This communications class was time consuming, mostly the outlines. Professor Bentley answered all emails in a timely matter, most were directing all problems to the Connect help desk.
This class was difficult at times. There were also those times when I asked "What have I gotten myself into?" But, it is a good class and I learned a lot. I fell good about myself for accomplishing and learning the things I did in this class.
Enjoyed the class. The class was a little nerve wrecking, but I managed.
This instructor did not create any collaborative assignments. Being a working adult taking this class online, I am thankful for this. I worked on assignments as I had time, which often meant late at night or on the weekends. If I had been forced to work on a team assignment, it may have been a disaster for my teammates and I.
She was tough
Professor Bentley, was very helpful and clear throughout this whole course.
I can't say I enjoyed her class but that has nothing to do with her...I just don't like writing papers. That being said she gave clear direction on what she expected and seemed more than willing to help when I needed it. If was required to take another english class I would not hesitate to take one she is teaching.
Professor Bentley is an excellent instructor. Her literature courses are in-depth and cover a vast array of literary texts from a variety of authors. Lots of reading! But most of it is enjoyable--especially if you are an English major! The discussions help you interact with your classmates and prep you for the longer literary analysis papers.
This is a required field but I don't have any other comments to add.
Gives decently easy homework and gives great feedback on papers.
Not the most difficult class I've taken but if you don't want to work then this class is not for you. Her grades are fair but she is going to make you earn the grade. If you just goof around and not do any work or not try on the work then you will fail.
Professor Bentley is an awesome professor. Assignments given have advance notice and have clear directions. Professor Bentley is always there to answer any questions. Any issues a student could have, she is willing to work with as long as you're trying your best. Her class is simple but beneficial. I was able to learn a lot in this course.
This class is great for any other college class you're going to take. Really prepares you for college-level papers.
I would highly recommend Susanne Bentley to my friends and family. She keeps her students up to date and on track to do well in class. I also like her feedback because it is constructive and positive at the same time.
Not very helpful. Mostly just assigns readings to "teach." Whenever I ask for help it has mostly just her referring me to the librarian.
When help was asked for, help was not given. Assignments were not clear. I received good feed back from the tutor and not so good feedback from my professor which was very confusing . Due dates were constantly pushed back. This normally would not bother me except due dates were changed the night of which was very frustrating.
Assignments are easy, she gives a rubric of every assignment. Follow the instructions, complete all of the assignments, ask any questions and you will pass. Very nice and helpful teacher, easy class!
I thoroughly enjoyed the INT 339 (Latin American Literature). There was a lot of reading and writing, but the readings were interesting and thought provoking. Instructions for essays and discussions were always clear. Bentley graded using a rubric and always provided helpful feedback. Always showed an interest in what we were learning.
Taking English 102 in the summer is really hard. However, the class is organized, and Prof. Bentley gave me a lot of feedback to show me what I need to do to get better. i think I learned a lot about research.
I learned so much while taking this course. The professor gives great feedback on assignments; in a timely manner.
Professor Bentley is very professional. I found the course to be well organized (English 102 summer course) and she gives a lot of feedback on writing assignments. I'm glad I took this course in the summer. now I'm done with English.
I am finishing the summer English 102 course, and I have learned more in the past few weeks than I have learned in any English class I have taken before. The class is organized in a way that I could follow and the professor gave me a lot of feedback on writing and MLA.
The class gives you lots of practice doing research. Taking it in the summer is a challenge, and you will have assignments due almost every day. Don't take it unless you are prepared to work.
Professor Bently provides students with very informative information on the entire course, understanding the homework, her lectures. The only way you can fail is because you choose to because she prepares students with everything they need to know to be successful ads long as they do the readings. She also gives very empowering feedback!
Not a very helpful teacher. Took Eng 102 with her cause she was highly recommended and did not get much help, or the assignments weren't clear. Also very little feedback and the "lectures" were just an outline.
Grades the paper with a strict rubric.
I was not expecting much from a summer class, but I learned a lot about scholarly research and how to write actual college research papers, not the high school type stuff I had to do with another instructor in English 101. I would recommend this class.
The online class was well organized with clear grading delineation for the assignments. Professor Bentley always responded quickly to any e mail requests and she seems to be a caring instructor. She was very helpful in provding feedback on assignments.
This instructor has clear expectations, and if you need help, she gets back to you quickly to help you understand or to answer your questions. Lots of feedback to tell you what works and what does not work. I definitely learned from this class.
It was great to have the opportunity to take this class in the summer. Professor Bentley is quick to respond to questions and she is very helpful if you need it. This is not a class for slackers! But, if you keep up with your assignments, you will learn a lot.
American Literature course with lots of reading, some written discussions, and a few papers. Professor is very friendly, I recommend visiting office hours.
Professor Bentley is one of the better English teachers at GBC. Literature and The Environment was a very educational class.
Professor Bentley is a great lit professor. This period of American lit has a lot of dull reading, but she creates great discussions and essay assignments to help you get the focus of the reading. She values students own ideas and not just repeating some critic. I like that she wants to know what we really think. Highly recommend her classes.
I am not really into Journalism but it is a required course for my degree. I learned some but since I wasn't fully motivated it didn't make a huge impact for me. If anyone is going into Journalism this is a great course!
great teacher!
I took Com 101 online, professor Susanne Bentley is very helpful and caring. She likes her students to be successful in her class.
I truly enjoyed Susanne's class. I liked that she broke the class into discussion groups each session so that we challenged each other differently on different subjects.
It is great to have the chance to take a college course while I am a senior. Professor Bentley expects us to be mature and she has high standards. This was a great introduction to college.
It is an english class.
For question #3, I would rate the difficulty of assignments as a 3.5. I didn't feel they were too hard once you read the material. Professor Bentley does provide specific feedback and is accessible via email. I was in an online class.
I really liked the textbook and subject matter of this class, but I've taken another class with Professor Bentley as well and rated both classes highly. Professor Bentley is accessible and provides explicit feedback.
Professor Bentley is an excellent teacher. She is patient with her students but also expects them to be mature and perform well. However, English 101 will probably not be very challenging for you if you are a senior coming out of AP Lang and Comp. Professor Bentley will offer lots of helpful feedback on your essays and help you grow as a writer.
Pretty easy class.
This class gives you a lot of background in writing different kinds of news stories, reviews, and profiles. Professor Bentley give a lot of feedback to help us get better and learn AP style. I actually feel like I could get some of my articles published after taking this class. Highly recommended.
A good mix of poetry, essays, and novels to give you a strong background in early American literature. I learned a lot in this class, and Professor Bentley provides a lot of feedback on discussions and papers.
Such a good course that is centered on literature about the environment. We had great discussions, and the professor changed our groups around so we could work with everyone in class. I feel like my knowledge has been greatly expanded. I would recommend this class to everyone.
Com 101 is a good class to get public speaking experience. The professor is very structured, so it's not just giving speeches. There is a lot of detail in outlines and doing research. I liked that we worked in groups to rate each other and get feedback.
She did not teach she just assigned homework. There really was no difficulty in the homework. Wrote three papers and that was basically all of the homework for the semester.
Professor Bentley expects students to do their assigned homework based on the readings in the required text (which I highly encourage both). There is a lot of helpful information posted under the weekly assignments as well, but if you do not have confidence in your English and writing skills this class might be a challenge. You get what you give.
I took Professor Bentley's 5-week Eng 102 class over the winter and it went great! I had little to no problem staying on top of things and staying organized, meanwhile still doing other things. Professor Bentley really cares and wants to see her students strive. She also gives very clear and detailed notes on papers which are very help!
I felt this class was helpful and insightful. I think this class with be beneficial in my future.
Great teacher. Good feedback.
A great professor who's really animated about her subjects!
Professor Bentley gives clear, concise directions, and is accessible if you have additional questions. She does take a while to get your papers graded, but offers personalized feedback and comments to help you improve.
I loved Susanne. A lot of professors are very heavy about implementing their ideas in their students, Professor Bentley was AMAZING about encouraging thought and discussion in her students. She was very clear and concise about what she desired out of her papers. I look forward to taking all of her classes.
Professor Bentley is a wonderful instructor. She clearly cares about her students and their writing abilities. She allows her students a lot of freedom in their writing while still maintaining high expectations. Also, the feedback she provides on assignments is always full of helpful information and important points. I look forward to more classes!
I've taken a class with this professor before and really enjoyed it as well. As long as you do the reading you're good.
Not too tough of a professor. Definitely need to do the reading and assignments. Procrastination is not your friend.
IT was a great class.
English 102 in the summer is not for the weak. Prof Bentley give you a lot of comments to improve your writing, though. I feel like i learned a lot about research writing. Any time i wrote to professor Bentley she responded right away and gave me tons of help with things like my thesis or outline. Great teacher.
Professor Bentley has high expectations, and I had some trouble with not citing my sources correctly. Instead of just giving me an F and leaving my carcass by the side of the road, she gave me another chance to correct my errors. Wow, how different from the norm. She cares about seeing her students succeed while still making the class really tough.
Great class. Professor Bentley does a great job as the instructor she is.
Well organized class with logical assignments. The professor is very professional and her expectations are crystal clear from day one. Be sure you do the reading and follow the assignment specs. Prof. Bentley gives you great feedback on the things you need to fix but also tells you what you are doing well. I would take another class from her.
Really great professor. This is my third class with her and I really enjoyed it. She is great when it comes to giving back positive feedback on your papers. Reading is alot, and also writing but it is an english class. Great class on environmental lecture. I was able to use what I experience to include into the readings and discussions.
I've taken Professor Bentley multiple times. Her English courses require a lot of reading, but the material's always fascinating, and she chooses thoughtful discussion questions. Not too critical, so long as you make sure you make your points are clear and complete. Very nice, always available to communicate with, even online. Highly recommend.
It's obvious Professor Bentley carries much of the burden of online English courses for GBC, so you will get to know her quite well. There's a lot of reading, and the essays can be complex, but she's not too tough a grader if you put in the effort. She's very nice, and responds to all inquiries. Highly recommend her.
Professor Bentley is a great teacher! She did nothing but help and guide me.
The only complaint I have is that there is to much reading. I found it hard to keep up.
Professor Bentley is an excellent instructor. As an English major, I have taken many literature classes from her. There is always a significant amount of reading and a discussion posting nearly every week--plus the required essays. I like how Professor Bentley encourages independent thought from her students. Highly recommend this class!
Really loved taking this class. At the beginning I was a bit cautious to take a women's studies, but she does a great job at keeping an open mind, and talking about equality in general. Would definitely recommend her as a professor.
Great instructor, clear, concise instruction, and knowledgeable in the area.
I have enjoyed this professor over multiple classes through the years. She gives honest feedback, relies a little heavy on discussions and not much variation to novel subjects. Not my favorite course but good information and knowledge presented.
The course ended up being better than expected. Definitely not a particularly difficult course, but one that a person can learn a lot from.
I took the 2018 winter course for English 102. It was a very fast paced class. Only had 3 major papers due throughout the 5 week course. She gives really good feedback and makes sure you understand what she means by "this is incorrect." The only thing I disliked about the class was the quizzes that were based on the textbook.
I took Professor Bentley for the winter break English 102 class. When first looking at the 5 work course it seemed overwhelming and almost undoable. But if you keep up with all your assignments you will pass. Professor Bentley gives you good feed back and answers questions fast. She is a easy grader if she knows you are putting in the effort!
I took English 102 over the Winter break therefore, I knew it was going to be a lot more work because the class was condensed into a 5 week course. It was not an undoable though. I recommend asking as many questions as you need. This Professor gives very helpful feedback to any questions you have and will clarify anything that you are unsure about.
I took English 102 over winter and I thought it would be overwhelming since it was a condensed course, but it wasn't! I would definitely take Professor Bentley again! She gives really good feedback and is a great grader! Take her class if you can!
I took professor Bentley's intensive 5 week course and although the work load was tedious and abundant, the professor responded to any questions I had within a day. The professor gives you specific feedback on what you could improve throughout the class. I was very satisfied with the professor's method of running the course and I earned an A.
I took Professor Bentley over the winter in a 5 week course for English 102. She always was willing to help me prepare for my final essay at the end of the semester. She also gave very constructive criticism. When there was an issue or if I had any questions regarding a grade I received she was always there to answer my questions.
There was a few required videos to make that were a bit difficult if you are not used to that. Other than that this was an okay class with an okay teacher who was nice about extensions if you missed a deadline.
She cares about her students and is willing to work with you.
Great teacher and great class!
She gives great feedback and many opportunities to increase your grade if it happens to decrease. The class was not very hard if you put in the work and did not procrastinate since assignments can be time consuming. For our class she made assignments due Saturdays, so it would be smart to not wait until then to do it.
There was a lot of reading and critical thinking essays, but if you do the reading, you'll be fine. Really enjoyed this class and I learned a lot of new interesting things.
This was an awesome course. It has so many interesting facts to learn. The instructor clearly defines all assignments. There is no more reading or writing than normal, making this an easy course to take.
-Humanities Course/HUM101- Gives clear instruction so you know what is asked of you, acknowledges good work and effort, truly cares about the learning of her students, requires weekly reading, quizzes are based on reading which is great, overall great professor! I learned valuable skills from this course. I would highly recommend her.
So, every week you have a discussion group posting to do based on the reading you do in the textbook, every so often you have a couple of Thought Papers to write and then you have a final project. This is the basis for most classes I've taken with her, but it works out well. I learn a lot and I know what to expect, which is nice in an online class.
The hardest assignments will be the speeches simply because the first time you have to figure out how to upload them and they may take a while to film depending on how often you mess up or how much of a perfectionist you are. She was very good about getting back to me if I had any questions and was always helpful and understanding.
This is the first humanities class I've ever taken and I really enjoyed it. We had weekly assignments and extra reading that pertained to that topic. she kept the students interested and working together. Great teacher.
This was a great course and I learned so much about giving speeches. You definitely have to work for your good grade and want to learn. Highly recommended,
Definitely passionate about her subject. May take a little while to get papers back, but always includes supportive and helpful feedback.
Definitely passionate about her subject, though her biases can show when faced with dissenting opinion. May take a little while to get papers back, but always includes supportive and helpful feedback.
Professor Bentley is very passionate about her subject and seems to want each of her students to understand and enjoy what they are reading are writing about. A lot of freedom is given over topic choices and making the assignment ones own. She is always willing to give genuine help when asked for.
Professor Bentley has been one of the most wonderful instructors Ive had the opportunity to take classes from. She is passionate about what she teaches which makes her classes even more enjoyable. She expects a lot from her students, as she wants them to be successful, and consistently gives excellent feedback on assignments for us to grow from.
great professor and you will learn things that can help you for the rest of your life.
I took Professor Bentley's ENG267 "Introduction to Women in Literature" course. What I enjoyed most about Professor Bentley was her open-mindedness and progressiveness to allow her student's to provide unsolicited history within the context of the subject matter focused on for the course. I have much respect and adoration for Professor Bentley.
Even with a travel-filled summer, I tried putting a few hours aside to work on this class. Sometimes it was stressful with having no service while traveling and being busy, but eventually I did finish all the homework and papers. Professor Bentley gives students enough time to get the assignments done even with a busy summer.
Professor Bentley seems to truly care about her students, and she will help you learn if you are missing something important. This class covered a lot of material, and we had weekly lectures with many videos to supplement the reading. Weekly quizzes and discussions keep you focused, and the world religion project was great. Highly recommend.
"Get ready to read" is right! To be fair, it was a literature class, so that is to be expected. Professor Bentley consistently gave good feedback and offered clear grading criteria. My only wish is that grading occurred sooner following assignment submission; that said, there wasn't too much delay all things considered. Solid choice.
Great teacher, work isnt too hard but not so easy that youd breeze by it. Great way to start college classes.
Challenges her students in an effort to strive for excellence and for success.
Supportive and provides feedback, my favorite class!
I have taken Professor Bentley multiple times at GBC and am always happy with her class. While I don't always feel particularly challenged, she gives amazing feedback and makes herself available to her students.
Taking this class reminded me what I loved about English and rediscovered my adoration for the topic. I highly recommend taking this class and can not wait to take more of her classes in the future.
Taken several of her online classes. She's passionate about her subject, chooses engaging texts. Not always prompt with grading, but always gives feedback, and is encouraging to students. Great teacher!
We studied Latin American literature and art. The class is well organized and we had some great readings and discussion about different cultural aspects of Latin America. Professor Bentley's reading list was challenging, and it pushed me to read things I neve would have on my own. She's very supportive and will help you when you need it.
Susanne is a fantastic instructor and I have taken various classes, including 449B - British Lit. II. In every class she tries her best to be a prompt with the work and supply you with information to get the work done. She is great at answering questions and helping supply ideas for papers. Very easy to talk to and I recommend taking her classes.
So, you'll read a lot in her class and write a lot. I don't mind either one, but you need to learn to write to her particular taste, because she can be a tough grader. She likes specific things. Other than that she's a good teacher.
This was my first course taken with Dr. Susanne Bentley, and was completed online. She was accessible via email when I needed to chat and provided an above-average amount of constructive and conscientious feedback on my work. I really feel that despite a great geographic distance, we were able to connect in a meaningful way as individuals.
Fairly easy class. Easy to keep grades up and good as long as you are participating in discussions weekly.
Susanne is wonderful, I would almost prefer that she be more strict in certain areas though.
Instructor Bentley is very laid-back, the concerns I had with this course had only to do with it being online instead of live.
Creative nonfiction was a really fun class and Instructor Bentley was a wonderful person to teach it.
I really struggle with online classes, I haven't taken a 100 level course in years, and journalism is not my spiritual gift. I struggled with this class, I could really have used some more direct instruction as the textbook was not very helpful at all. However, I know Instructor Bentley would have been very helpful if I had reached out.
This is a good class.
Art, philosophie, music, archetecture, religion down through the ages. Professor Bentley has great lectures every week, and the discussions help you learn from other students about what their ideas are. I learned a lot. Don't slack off though or you won't make it.
Professor Bentley gives great feedback/help whenever you need it! I took this class for my major, but I'm super grateful for the knowledge I gained from this course and I'd definitely take it again! As long as you read the assigned criteria & participate in the discussions you will pass. What you learn in this course is very empowering & worth it.
Professor Bentley is hands down the best English professor I have ever had. She is hands on, caring and nurtures a creative spirit. There is no reason not to pass her class, she gives plenty of time for assignments and usually moves the due dates back. She has nurtured my creativity like no one has. I love her!
I took this class while working 80 hour work weeks during the summer. It is definitely manageable. This professor gives a lot of good tools that I will probably use outside of her class.
Professor Bentley is very serious about her students getting all the information required to complete the course assignments. She took extra time and effort to help me through my final project. Because of her, I feel I have learned more in her class than any other. She has been more than helpful and specific in her teaching method.
The professor provided the most helpful feedback I have ever received from any teacher. I also cannot stress enough how nice it was to have clear guidelines for all of our assignments. It stresses me out so much when the professors are vague, and that was not the case for this class. Great experience.
I took Professor Bentley's ENG 102 in the summer. She warned us how hard the class would be and she was right. But, I learned more in 8 weeks than I have learned in any college class. Prof. Bentley worked with me when I was having difficulty, her lectures and assignments are clear, and she tells you what you are doing wrong or right. The best.
I took the Native American Lit. There were 3 papers and a discussion post on most weeks. You also have to reply to two people for the discussion. You had to read two novels and some textbook reading for the discussions. It was not too bad and you have enough time for each essay. Just make sure to keep up with the novel-reading and you'll be golden.
I took Professor Bentley for ENG101 and ENG102 ,and I enjoyed every minute of it. She is an easy-going teacher who wants us to succeed. Her grading criteria is clear and she gives you the freedom to write about any topics YOU LIKE for your major papers. She responds back quickly to questions any day of the week. Shes an absolute gem!
This was my third class with Professor Bentley. She warned us it would be fast-paced even before the class started due to winter class. The syllabus covers everything. She is organized, communicates in a consistent manner. While the class was fast, she made learning the topic enjoyable. Great helpers were given. Do the work & you'll pass!
She cares about her students and is very fair.
Would take this professor again! I was not excited about this class, she made it fun and enjoyable.
I took this class during Covid-19 and professor Bentley did a great job during all that. She cut out a lot of the small assignments to give us time to work on the main projects. There are a lot of peer review assignments and you need to find someone to interview, then you have to write about that.
I took this class during Covid-19, so professor Bentley did well during all of that. She cut out a lot of the small assignments to give us time to work on the main projects. There are a lot of peer review assignments.
I was not Professor Bentley's biggest fan at the beginning of the semester, but when we had this Covid-19 outbreak she handled it better than others. She has been so caring and understanding of the stress that we've been feeling. She made the workload easier and extended deadlines. She genuinely cares about her students.
Professor Bentley was an awesome Professor. She was always available when I would email her for help. Her Humanities class is great and you learn a lot while in it. There was one group project that was a lot of fun. I would recommend this class.
She made the topic interesting, included many video links, had great power points and the grades were based on discussion posts and responds and quizzes that were not too hard. I really enjoyed this class and also learned many interesting details on Humanities.
Professor Bentley was a great professor. We had to do quizzes, discussions, and a few writing assignments, all of which wear easy as long as you read the proper section. She was big on paraphrasing in your own words, so make sure you do this. As long as you stay on top of the due dates for assignments, you should have no problems getting an A.
Professor Bentley was a great professor. In woman studies 101 its mostly about your opinion, she doesnt want to hear what the book knows, she wants to hear what you know. All in all, if you participate and try, youll pass this class.
She is an excellent professor and so kind!! Loved her class!!!
The class itself was difficult, being a summer course. With 16 weeks of content packed into 8, the whole thing revolved around a single research paper assignment that makes or breaks your great in this class. Falling below 63% of your grade score on any of the vital assignments also means instant failure, but re-submission is possible till the due.
I liked the introduction the Professor gave the class - she warned us about the time that would need to go into this summer class. I appreciated the "real talk". I'm glad I only took this one class this summer as it was enough to keep me busy after working a full-time job every day.
The nicest teacher that I have had since I started homeschooling. So thoughtful and helps you with your work with good feedback. She donates to charities improving people's lives as well. Super sweet, will miss being in her class.
Professor Bentley is a GREAT professor. I took her English 102 class over Summer which was NOT easy at all, but her willingness to help and support you makes it doable. She actually reads every word of each paper, so be sure to pay attention to detail. I would recommend taking her class! This is the second class of hers that I have taken.
We have weekly reading, discussion, and several papers due. This philosophy course is about asking questions to come up with your own ideas about some very difficult topics, like knowledge, beliefs and ethics. Professor Bentley knows her stuff and gives great feedback and the course is very well organized. Keep up with the reading and ask questions
Professor Bentley is a great teacher. I have had her for a Humanities class as well as a Philosophy class - both of which I enjoyed a lot! There is plenty of information in the syllabus/assignments to know what you will need to do. Class content was interesting and fun as well as applicable.
Absolutely amazing professor. This is not a class you take just to pass but genuinely learn and grow. Bentley gives some of the strongest feedback that really develops your skills.
Professor Bentley is a wonderful teacher. The work is not difficult at all and she provides a lot of material to help you understand the topics. I hardly read the book and I passed with an A+. I highly recommend taking her class; you will learn a lot if you apply yourself. Even if you don't apply yourself, it's hard not to pass. She is awesome!
Professor Bentley is an outstanding educator whom I learned a great deal from this semester. I also suffered a personal tragedy this semester, and she worked with me to be successful in the course - to which I am very grateful. The modules and writing assignments are engaging and informative. She is amazing, and highly recommend her course.
Excellent
As long as you participate in the discussions and turn in your assignments on time, you will do well in this class!
The class studies go over the history of humanity, in humanities, where you explore several cultures and genres, reviewing and reciting many landmarks, physical, musical, and demographic. Participation is quite required, with discussions every week, and replies to two other students are crucial to the grading process. Reading every week is required
The work assigned was applicable and though a textbook was required I found many online citing sources as well. Discussion a couple times a week and some quizzes. Manageable class.
This was British Literature and I was so nervous for it but she made this class worth it by asking us how we feel on everything. Instead of a 14 page final paper at end of semester it was a thought paper asking us how we felt at the end of semester ago it the material! This is the type of English I love working with! Read and participate! Amazing!
I have taken many English classes from Susanne, and I continue to always like her. She is more into learning the content for life more than analyzing. I appreciate her thought papers and final papers. This class was a great variety of Shakespeare! You will have thought papers and discussions. She also gives some off weeks as well to work!
This class is an elective course, but I still needed it in order to graduate on time. I was surprised at how great this course was. I wrote a travel essay and a memoir while looking at other pieces of literature I have never quite engage with before. Great things from Susanne as always!
great
Prof Bentley is a real gem. She makes understanding of the very simple and makes you work for it. She inspires everyone to reach his or her best. Her comments and feedback are right on point and do reflect what she is teaching.
Prof Bentley is really a good teacher and inspires her students to get the best out of them. She makes you work for the credit and excellent feedback from her, which gives students to get it right and produce the best work.
Gives good feed back and is understanding but strict
I really enjoyed this class and the content we went over. In the beginning, I assumed I would struggle because I've never taken a philosophy class but through the course, it was easy to catch on and understand the assignments being given. This class made me think deeper into thought process and I enjoyed having Professor Bentley.
Professor Bentley has her syllabus, but don't let that intimidate you! As long as you keep up on your work, this class should be fairly easy! You may need to read a little bit, but taking the 16-week course isn't stressful. However, I did take English 102 as a Winter Course with Bentley. Be ready for lots of work if you do that! She's a 10/10!
I have no complaints with Mrs. Bentley. She was a great professor.
I've had Professor Bentley for multiple classes now and she is by far one of my favorite teachers I've ever had in school. The class isn't that hard and she gives very clear criteria and if you follow that, you should get a good grade. She is also good at responding if anyone has questions.
Professor Bentley is one of my favorite professors. Her classes are always enjoyable and she makes you care about the subject matter. I have taken many of her classes over the course of my college career and will continue to do so whenever they are available. There is a lot of reading, but nothing out of the ordinary for a lit class.
she normally gives a quiz and a discussion each week. They are super easy, if you watch the videos and power points it should help a lot. One thing I love is that there is no exams. She is super sweet and understanding. She is really good at grading. for the discussions you have to comment on two others posts. I would definitely take her again.
I took this for the credit. I do not care.
Intro to Hum contains lots of group assignments, homework, and tests. The class consists of a diverse mix of group discussions, group assignments, and tests, as stated above. The setup of the course is excellent. It's one of the best classes I have taken. I would definitely take another one of professor Bentley's classes if I had the chance.
I would highly recommend taking Professor Bentley. She is a very fair grader and recognizes the work you put into your assignments. The work may seem overwhelming at first but Professor Bentley is willing to work with her students and is easy to get in contact with. She is a very sweet person and I would 10/10 recommend her class!
She takes forever to grade. Weeks. Asked her about an assignment and she never responded. Class isn't very hard but the first few weeks are packed, after that it calms down alot. You just need to put in work for this class and you'll pass, but if you want feedback in a timely manner or feedback at all don't take her.
She gave the worst feedback, she made the class confusing and extra complicated, the instructions to assignments change or she grades you poorly at will. Her class was a nightmare. Again, she gives the wrong instructions and then proceeds to create a large block of what you did wrong, when the instructions weren't efficient.
Prof Bentley is a great teacher, a gem at GBC. I've had the opportunity to take many of her classes. Her structure, instruction, and feedback are always consistent. I'm especially impressed by her willingness and ability to adjust and scaffold instruction based on the needs of the class. Expectations are clear, material is engaging, the writing fun
Professor Bentley has and will continue to be one of my favorite professors at GBC. She always gives fantastic feedback and does it in a way that is not condescending. Without her push, I would probably not have attempted to pursue a bachelor's degree. The assignments are not difficult as long as you do the assigned reading and enjoy analysis.
PHIL wasn't easy for me, mostly because I'm more of a black and white thinker. It took me a bit to get going. But Professor Bentley was easy to contact if I needed something. She responded with encouragement and advice.
This is a literary non-fiction course. We read some great work and Professor Bentley gave us weekly assignments to try out the techniques we were reading about. She is accomplished in getting published, and she gave us a lot of tips about what genres to pursue if we want to get our work published. I truly learned a lot about writing in this class.
Mainly a discussion-heavy class with straightforward grading. Professor Bentley was just ok, she wasn't amazing but wasn't horrible.
Professor Bentley is a fantastic professor. I have taken 3 of her classes already, and they have been excellent. She always leaves kind feedback and encourages me to publish some of my essays.
Professor Bentley is one of the kindest & most caring English professors I have ever had. I recently just transferred to GBC & it was my first time taking an upper-division English class. She made it a great experience & I will be retaking her!
Very difficult to work with. Condescending tone to others that are just trying to ask questions. Gave personal line for calls and is unresponsive.
Professor Bentley's classes are well organized and if you read the assignment requirements you will get precise details about how to do each assignment. She posts sample papers for each assignment. Eng 102 in eight weeks is pretty challenging, and she was always ready to give extra help when I needed it. She gives feedback to help you improve.
Very easy going when getting feedback or grading assignments, her expectations are laid out first thing and remids students of those guidelines. If you follow the guidelines you will do great. She replies to emails promptly and provides good feedback for improvement.
Professor Bentley provided great examples and clearly communicated feedback to help me become successful in this course. She was such a breath of fresh air this summer semester! I absolutely look forward to taking more of her classes in the future!
Professor Bentley is an amazing professor! She sets concrete, achievable goals for students. It required effort and motivation to do well. Not a class to enroll in, wanting an easy A. She provides exceptional feedback and comments on submissions, and the sincerity of her hopes for students to do well is evident. She definitely challenged me!
Professor Bentley is a great instructor. She posts the assignments and weekly discussions several weeks in advance. There were only two essays and one thought paper, so the readings and workload were super easy. The readings were always exciting and engaging. Overall, I had a great learning experience taking her class.
Women's Studies uses reading and watching many different videos about the experiences of people who see the world differently than what society considers "normal." Professor Bentley allows us to express what we think. The course is about diversity and learning to have empathy and respect for all people. One of my favorite classes so far,
I was intimidated about taking a Shakespeare class, but Prof. Bentley spends about 3 weeks on each play, so we got a lot of background. We also could read translations into modern English. I learned a lot and now can understand Shakespeare. Not an easy class, but highly recommend it. Prof. Bentey gives great feedback and lots of encouragement.
I did not know what to expect from philosophy, but it centered on figuring out your intellectual skills and how you think. Professor Bentley gives feedback on discussions and papers, and we spent a few weeks on media literacy. Some of the reading is hard to comprehend, but we have lectures and discussions to help. Everyone should take this class.
I would encourage everyone to take a class by Professor Bentley. She really seems to care about her students. Also, while her assignments are not difficult, they allow for a great learning opportunity.
I recently graduated with my BA in English and Professor Bentley was an instructor I took for many different courses I needed to graduate. She is specific with her constructive criticism while also always being very encouraging. Professor Bentley always provided extra information for her lessons and readings each week. Would take again and again.
I took S. Bentley's ENG102 Summer Class. 16 weeks of material condensed into 8 weeks, so there was a lot of material to cover in the first 5 weeks. I would recommend taking her ENG102 summer class if you are a serious student who can commit to it, but maybe not if you are a younger/inexperienced student. She is a fair grader, kind, and helpful.
Professor Bentley is a professor who stands above many others in this field. I graduated with my BA in English not too long ago and she was a big part of why I was able to earn success with my degree. I would recommend anyone to take her classes, as she is not only a great teacher, but a great human being as a whole. It will change your life!
The professor was overall easy to understand despite having delayed grading. Quite a bit of reading will be involved but the lectures given are high-quality reading as she writes them herself with cited sources. A lot about media literacy but fun. I have learned a lot more from this class than any other so far and would take this professor again.
I loved this course and Professor Bentley. I took Literature and the Environment. The readings were very informative and gave me a lot to think about. There is a lot of reading but it is interesting. One discussion post and reply every week and 2-3 essays. She's a fair grader and passionate about the subject. I can't wait to take her again.
Great professor, great class. Clear about what she wanted and always provided in-depth feedback; if you follow the directions, you'll be golden. The lectures were a little lacking, but outside of that, an overall wonderful class.
I took this over the Summer, so it was a condensed class. It was good, she gave a lot of feedback, but she is very adamant about deadlines. Overall it was a good class, just make sure you're doing the work and checking the due dates often.
This was a summer course. Prof. Bentley is an excellent teacher of art history, philosophy, and landmarks of different cultures through time. We also had projects on World Religions, and I learned a lot from those. Lots of reading and discussions, but it was a condensed class. Class was well organized, she gives you feedback about how to improve.
Prof. Bentley is an amazing instructor who sets clear goals and provides exceptional feedback. The class is challenging but rewarding - stay organized, use resources like unstuckstudy ai, and you'll do great. Highly recommend for serious students.
I tend to prefer lecture based in person classes, however, Susanne Bentley did a great job with this online class. We had weekly discussion posts and two papers. The content of the class was insightful and we were provided with interesting and diverse sources.
