I now hate chemistry because of this woman. I am sure she had good intentions.
organic chem- Dandekar helped by arranging tutoring groups from former o-chem 1 students. I didn't find the class too difficult.
She has her share of corney jokes, but they stuck with you to help you learn the material. Very fair grader and offered extra help for those who needed it
Great teacher, she is very concerned about her students and will help you till the very end!
She will very concerned with your grades and wants everybody to do thier best.

She is so concerned about her students. Anytime I went to her office she was willing to explain anything I didnt understand. She knows her stuff. She just covers ALOT of it in a small amount of time..
She is concerned about students and will help you out. Get ready to work your ass off to get an A.
If you show her that you care, she will be more than willing to help you when you need it. She even pulled me into her office and gave me some much needed encouragement after a low test score. I put in my time at the peer tutoring meetings and individual study time and got an A.

She makes fun of us a lot if we don't answer her questions. More than half the class has already had to drop and she has recommended that many more drop now.
She pretty much doesn't answer questions in class. If you ask she seems to get an attitude or tell you to figure it out for yourself. She'll cover one thing really well but then skip half the chapter so you have to teach yourself which can be hard. She says mean things with a smile on her face like she's not being mean.
She definately grows on you, I didn't care one way or the other about her last semester, but this semester she's been so nice and caring that I just love her. Shes big on having you know the application of all the stuff you learn and the project is a good, easy way to boost your grade. Wonderful teacher.
She's really nice and will help if one asks. Her tests aren't that easy, but she has practice tests on her website. She really does care about the students and tries her best to pass most of the people in her class.
nice.!
i didn't like her to begin with, but she can be really nice if she knows that u are working hard and u are doing your best. Don't fall behind in class, make sure you get immediate help if u don't understand something in lecture, do not miss class. Study..study..study..get ready to works hard..not easy at all. This class will take up alot of ur time
THE WORST chem teacher at UNT! If you want to pass this class then drop her right now and get Selby!
She's a decent lecturer, but will NOT help outside of class. Can be very rude to students
If you want to learn the material take Selby... He is an excellent teacher. She lacks the skill to teach.
very mean to students. if u ask her some thing shes like "what u mean" or refer to ur gen chem book. work ur butt off to get a passing grade. n also she give extra credit. its like 2 hrs of wrk and get 1 point. not worth at all.
She is a TERRIBLE lecturer. She is unclear on the material (which is already difficult) and unhelpful re: questions. Flys through material with little emphasis on important topics. Student teaching sessions earn u a small amount of extra credit. Learning the practice probs. in the book is more helpful than any lecture she gives.
Dandekar wants her students to work hard, but when you know that you are not going to just focus on Ochem, why waste your time with her..im sorry but if your not serious in her class you might do poorly! Do your self a favor please and take some other teacher. If she is only available this semester, your better off waiting till later. Dont risk it!
O-chem is a tough topic but a 12 page group paper & presentation is insane. My partner flaked but I still have to do the whole project. At the end of 2380 there's a cumulative o-chem1 & 2 exam through ACS. Presentations cause 2 weeks to be taken out of lecture so two chapters in the ACS exam are skipped. I would be lost without the textbook.
Don't EVER take her... unless u are her pets then you will do well. She pretend to care about u & will look down on u if u are doing poorly in her class. She will always tell u to go to offi.hr when u ask4 help, but never ever there or too busy talking to her pets. You can be standing there for hrs waiting4 her n' she will just ignore u :/
Wonderful professor. Course is difficult, be prepared to study relentlessly. Her passion and real world examples of organic chemistry put an interest into the subject. Tests are representative of the book, memorize it. Her lectures are helpful. Attend your study group every week. Do not expect to do well without proper effort.
She seems nice but unapproachable. Her tests were hard, even if you followed lecture and the old exams. She never gave good examples, went to fast and assumed you knew everything. The extra credit, study group, and group assignments didn't help me. I still learned nothing.
She's a good teacher if you are a quick learner. She tends to go fast but does explain the concept pretty well. Read the book and do the practice problems, they will help. Pay attention in class too.
Dr. Dandekar is a good teacher. Ochem is a hard subject and will require a lot of effort from you to do well. Attend class, recitation, and study groups. Read the book and practice the problems. Go to her and the CRC for help. Any my #1 piece of advice: STUDY HER OLD TESTS! Some are online, a lot are in the CRC.
Absolutely useless professor. Boring, unapproachable, rude, pet holder. I have no idea how she has kept her job. More than half her students fail because she simply refuses to slow down, use APPLICABLE examples, or tone down her tests. Her expectations are ridiculous. Take YoungBlood. It's too bad Selby is gone. Petros is alright.
tough but fair. Has genuine interest in her students well being. Always willing to help.
Do not take if you can help it.Her lectures have nothing to do with the tests. No review. Yells at us for not breathing this or being at her level. Half the people in class won't ask her a question because she look and talk to us as if we're stupid. Useless. Learned nothing. Students had a 100 ave of failed. No middle. No way. Take another professor.
Very hard class if you do not put in lots of time to read the textbook, do the practice problems and stay with the homework. She can lecture very fast but she does know the material extraordinarily well and can teach it if you are willing to learn. Tests are hard but do-able, it is possible to pass this class. Go to study group each week!! :)
Yes, it is a difficult class and it requires A LOT of extra work and study time. If you take it, plan to spend an extra 3 hours studying for every hour you are in class. If you work hard and go to class, she will recognize that. She's more likely to round up your grade and work with you if you go to class and study group. Overall, I've learned SO much. Which is good because organic is on the MCAT.
The people who say she's horrible are the ones who did horrible in her class. Everyone told me not to take her and she ended up being one of my fav profs. It's the CLASS that's hard...not the teacher. Just STUDY and you'll do fine. Her tests are JUST like the reviews. People need to stop blaming the teacher for their bad performance.
Before you take Dandekar for Organic Chemistry at UNT, you should ask yourself the following question: Do I like busy work? Or do I like to have lots of time to study on my own? The extra grades "pad" your test grades, true. More annoying than helpful are the constant extra assignments. She prefers oration over visual tools.
Organic is a weeding class. No matter who you take, it will be very difficult. Hard tests.
Students do not like taking Dr. Dandekar because she is SO TIME CONSUMING. Attendance in class and recitation is mandatory, online homework is due every couple of days, there is a project, and pop quizzes. However, I also took Petros's class and I learned way more in Dandekar's. Ask this: how much time am I willing to spend EVERY DAY on ochem?
I liked her class a lot. I felt that though it was tough to learn(as is all ochem),she gave us multiple methods to learn by. the student lead sessions was awesome!
Unless you're a Chem major, don't work, or have a lot of free time on your hand, I highly recommend you avoid this professor. She, as a professor, is ok. The homework is difficult and time consuming. Test are extremely hard. An extremely difficult class if you have a job.
Very hard class and requires MANY HOURS of studying! However, Dandekar provides a lot of resources to help. She wants students to succeed even though her tests are very hard. If dedicated you learn a lot, even if your grade may not reflect it. I chose to take her again for ochem2 even though I got a C. I think it will benefit me in the long run.
As you all already know that she is extremely hard, I wanna say that yes she is. BUT ! how many times have you taken a science class for the subjects on the MCAT and follow the review books for MCAT for that course with the class?? Well guess what taking her will ensure that you can do that. I have been studying for the ochem MCAT with the course!
O-chem is a hard subject regardless who teaches it. As far as Dandekar teaching style; it is relentless but needed. You cant slack and expect to master the subject. I am glad she gave us so much to do because in the end I actually learned! Crazy right? Also don't believe the hype, she's strict but she's fair. I recommend her to all pre-health peeps
Wouldn't recommend this class if you have a job outside of school and/or taking 12+ credits for the semester. 11 HW with 40-60s questions due every week. Exams difficulty are somewhat similar to the HW. DO NOT RELY ON THE OLD EXAMS SHE POSTED ON BLACKBOARD! To study for exam, look over HW problems and old exams of students from previous semesters.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!
Not easy. Online program for homework was used (Sapling). Become one with the textbook and study guide; be informed of the material being taught that day (will HELP A LOT). Uploads her entire lectures online; having a copy will aid bunches. Go to class, study group sessions, and make friends with her. All in all, brilliant. One of the best.
Good teacher, kind and genuinely willing to help. If you try, you will not fail this class. If you do the homework, book work, and attend class, you will get an A. I would recommend this class only to those moving into medicine (MCAT), chemistry, biochem, and biology majors who are going to be taking higher ochem classes or biochemistry.
Dr. Dandekar really cares about her students. She wants them to succeed and gives her students the resources to do so. She assigns all her students to a study group with a study group leader who is usually an old student who did well in the class. These were super helpful because they reviewed stuff that you needed to know.
Be nice to yourself. Don't take this class. She will make you do lot of work and not give you the grade you deserve.
I do believe that she is a brilliant professor and is very willing to help those that already make A's, not so much for those that are not doing well. I took notes, went to nearly every lecture (minus being sick), and made A's in all of the homework assignments. Although still failed the class, TWICE for OChem 1 and 2. Don't take her.
She does not teach. Her lectures are about what you have learned from the textbook and really long HW assignments. She makes students feel stupid when questions are asked. Has frequent quizzes, assignments, and projects which makes it hard to get all the studying needed to do well. Do not recommend this professor.
I've had Dr. Dandekar for three semesters. She is a very intense, but nice woman. she can give you the vibe of "are you really asking methis you should know this" when you ask questions, but overall she is a helpful woman. I took her for Ochem 1, Ochem 2, and med chem. She has term projects and homework so if you have a big work load dont take her.
Dr. Dandekar is an amazing professor. She knows what she is talking about and makes organic very interesting. Her exams are difficult, but she ends up making the ACS exam questions easy. You need to take her if you are a chemistry major.
Her lectures are pointless. The things she speaks are helpful and useful but it is extremely difficult to keep up with what she is saying when she says so much. Weekly online HW lis very time consuming. Her use of previous students as study group leaders is aggravating because they act like TAs but they are undergrads. Very frustrating.
Honestly, yeah it's a tough class but dr dandekar really does a lot to help her students and if you just do the work and don't be lazy then you'll get a decent grade I'll get an A with not a crazy amount of effort just because I stay on top of things. I like dr dandekar you learn a lot
Both the professor and the study group leaders are completely patronizing and condescending to students, despite the fact that the group leaders are UNDERGRADS. Dandekar fully expects complete comprehension of the material at all times. She is rude and her teaching style is wholly ineffective.
Dr. Dandekar has good intentions but comes across as very intimidating. She will make you feel stupid when you ask questions. The study group leaders are egotistical and do not help. The exams are very difficult and you only get 15 minutes to correct it when you get it back. Would only recommend if you do not have a job or a social life...
All around horrible narcissistic teacher. The final was borderline sadist. studied kept up with the 60 a week hw problems quizes projects and gave so much effort only too get a d. yet i feel like i know ochem well enough to get an A in petros's class. if you value your life and gpa dont take her.
She is very difficult. Most of the people here did not put in nearly as much effort as they say. Many of the people also just wanted an easy A or B. She will push you more than you are used to, but that paid off when I took the MCAT
She is very hard, but this should be expected for a college level chemistry course. I think that everyone else is just spoiled with teachers who haven't forced them work that much. Her tests are ridiculous though, but it's because of her that I got a 33 on the MCAT
Nice woman, very intelligent knows exactly what she is talking about; however, too smart to teach in all honesty. Worked my ass off yet failed the first test (which was quite impossible) with a 45. Asked her for help and she advised me to drop the class. Do not take her.
She is very nice, but be prepared to work and study. You will either love it or hate it. She does give you chances to reaise your grade-there is a project and if you do better on your final than one or more of your test grades, she'll replace it. I recommend taking her if you want to learn; take someone else if you don't have the time to study.
My favorite professor!!!!!!!!! She is so helpful and I learned a lot from her study-habit and material wise. It just takes a good amount of effort on the students part in order to succeed in this class.
I wanted to grade Dr. Dandekar to give her what she deserves. I took her last semester for Organic chemistry 2. I worked extremely hard in her class. She gives you plenty of tools to succeed. People who succeeded in her previous classes teach extra credit study sessions. Work for it and you'll get an A. If you want to know it, take Dandekar.
She will NOT go into more detail about questions and she usually refuses to write down things during lecture for you to see. Organic Chem is a very difficult class but when you have Dandekar it becomes even more difficult. She only has 2 tests (20 questions each) and a final. I have a very high B in the class but I would not recommend taking her.
If you value your life and GPA DO NOT take this class. She is an extremely difficult prof. She doesn't take time to write out what she's saying, so it's extremely hard to keep up. She's rude to her students. Dare not ask a question during class. She will definitely make you feel stupid and embarrassed. She goes extremely fast thru the material.
She relies on study group leadersfor q&a. Clear expectations, lots of work, a group project, and difficult material to master. Expect her o chem class to take at least ten hours of outside study per week and you'll do fine.
DR Dandekar is a very very smart lady. However, for someone taking a full load of classes, her OChem class is very tough. If you skip a class you will be lost forever, if you dont skip and not do homework or extra assignments, you will still be lost. Prepare for 10-15hrs aside of regular class time. The 2 exams are tough. A lot of critical thinking
She can be very condescending when asking her questions. She often wont write problems on the board, so she expects you to write them out yourself. Her tests are very difficult, but if you go to class, do practice problems, read the book and attend her tutoring sessions you will do fine. If you want a good ACS score take her
Hard class, but it is very doable.
This class is like HELL once you take it... She teach LESS and EXPECT TOO MUCH ... She nice, passion but is not they way you can LEARN as she said .. but SUFFER She gives too much stuffs like a FULL TIME job... you gonna pass her class if you just have ONLY ONE her class in your semester and treat it like a priority than everythings.
This class requires a lot of work and effort! I feel like she expected us to know this stuff already and she doesn't write things down. Be ready to do Sapling homework over each chapter, 2 test first one is okay but second one was tragic 4 me ,the Adopt-a-molecule project is doable but requires group participation etc. TIPS: STUDY HARD ! Goodluck !
GO TO CLASS. You will not pass if you don't. She takes attendance every meeting. Very hard class and makes you work for it. The effort you put in will reflect your grade. Tests are insanely hard, but she gives a ton of opportunities for extra credit. Go to office hours and make sure she knows you're trying. She bumps a letter grade at the end.
This lady is undoubtedly the most annoying person ever, coming from an A student. If you read the book, you'll get an A in any Ochem. Her lab will make you want to swallow a gallon of KNO3. Her lab is harder than her class. There are freaking group projects, research, homework. No other teacher does this, and it is not worth the trouble.
If you didn't take Dandekar for 2370, 2380 w/ her will be your worst nightmare. If you took her for 2370, you're more prepared for tests/homework/group projects/term papers/pop quizzes/stupid jeopardy game that makes you reevaluate your life. If you took Petros for 2370 like I did & Dandekar Was the only option for 2380, just go ahead and jump now
NEVER EVER TAKE THIS CLASS IN YOUR LIFE! SHE EXPECTS YOU TO KNOW EVERYTHING. ??????? AND NEVER TAKES THE TIME TO EXPLAIN! ISNT THE WHOLE POINT OF GOING TO CLASS IS TO LEARN? NOT TO TALK OF ALL HER OTHER POINTLESS EXTRA CURRICULAR WORK. UGH.
I dropped Ochem 1 b/c it was too confusing. Make sure you read the book before coming to class. She is very smart but expects highly of her students. Make sure she knows who you are. She just talks, doesn't really lecture. I did not like her class at all.
OChem 1 lab, CHEM3210, was taught by a TA named Vlad, and he was awesome!! I had it Fdays 3-5:50pm and he was incredibly helpful & an easy grader. I enjoyed this lab because of him. He is the best TA ever! He really helps you and answers your ?s, just make sure you show him that you're trying during lab.
If you care about your college education and really advancing beyond an undergraduate degree, Dr. Dandekar is for you. This brilliant woman makes you work for your grade and teaches you, without knowing, life lessons that are invaluable. You'll be honored to earn your grade from her and will be better for having known her. Rock on Dr. D!
Very passionate professor and really motivating. Rigorous class but if you give your best effort and take advantage of all of her extra resources she provides, an A is possible. Lots of homework. Textbook is one of the best ever IMO. I'd take her if you want to master it and dominate on the MCAT chem section. If you want an easy A go elsewhere.
Take her chemistry courses if you are ready to challenge yourself and are prepared to learn. You will not do well in this class if you are not willing to do the work required outside of class. However, the group projects can be unruly and take the duration of the semester. (*I have taken OCHEM 1 + 2 with her and this description applies to both.)
Hard class, emailed her twice about assignments with no reply.
Dr. Dandekar is a really neat professor who really cares about her students. Of all of my relationships with my professors, I have the best relationship with her. If you are looking for an easy A, run away as fast as you can! But if you are looking to come to understand Ochem and have a person spurring you along during that journey, sign up now!
If you have any aspirations of graduate school or just overall success in life, I highly recommend taking this class. I hadn't taken Ochem 1 in almost 2.5 years and I didn't do well. I took Ochem 2 with Dandekar and scored a perfect score on the Ochem section of the OAT. She's hard but so worth it.
Wonderful professor one-on-one. Get tough skin now and know that if she's giving you the time of day, she cares that you learn the material. On the flip side, she's very brash in lecture, will either verbally reward or punish for you asking questions, and will often criticize class for general no-knowledge moments. Many students avoid her.
Amazing woman! She gives you EVERY opportunity to be successful. She sets up weekly study groups around your schedule w/ students who have aced OCHEM, go to them! Test 1 is easy beware of test 2! She pushes you, be ready to work. Go talk to her during office hrs, gives great feedback & very inspirational. Gives extra credit. Grading is fair.
Exams and tests are difficult from material that she did not take in class!
I was in her class the first time she taught discover chemistry. She seemed to make up the course as the semester went on. She got up in front of class and gave lectures only a handful of times while the rest of the time was spent by other professors coming in and talking. She seems to forget that this is a freshman level course sometimes.
Discover Chemistry is sort of a joke. It's a good class to take if you need a GPA booster. Dr. Dandekar is intimidating at times, but she does care about her students. She can come off as mean and condescending, but I think she just wants what is best for her students. Beware she is unclear at times as well. I wouldn't skip either.
Before Dr. Dandekar, I hated chemistry. Now, I want to change my major to chem or biochem. The class is challenging, but she wants her students to succeed by setting up weekly study group sessions taught by her former students. Go to the sessions. Read the book. Develop good study habits. She may come off as condescending, but I enjoyed her class.
Dr. Dandekar is an absolutely amazing professor. The class is hard, but that's because the material is just hard in general. Dr. Dandekar gives so many opportunities to understand the material and extra credit. She really cares for her students and does everything she can to help. However, she doesnt take crap, so if you dont try, she wont help.
A real amazing professor. She tries so hard to make sure everyone knows the material and she sets up weekly study groups for her students. please go to these as they help tremendously. She can only do so much, so her study group leaders go the extra mile also and help as much as they can. Try to get Trissha and Jaron or Mei li, they're the best!
Very passionate about what she does and very knowledgeable. Nice and approachable in person but very grating during lecture. Group projects and extra homework are overkill for how much you have to study in for this class. Tests are straightforward, but hard. Take this class at a community college if at all possible.
Beware!! She maybe be nice alone but in lecture she belittles students. This is not a good learning environment. Her tests are typical test bank questions. If I had to do it all over again, I would take this at Collin County College. She now expects us to learn the last two chapters (10&11) in only two more lectures before finals. Not the best!
Dr. Dandekar is great. Yes,her class is very difficult. She expects a lot of her students. If you are required to take Ochem it is one of the most important courses you will ever take. Take Dr. Dandekar. It's going to be tough, very tough. You will learn so much though. I can't recommend her highly enough. Truly 10 out of 10.
If you're NOT a Chem major, DON'T take her. ONLY 2 tests, which are unreasonable; too many questions for the time, no curve. I worked my butt off, studied 12-14hr/wk, went to study groups, missed 1 class, and I'm just hoping to pass. I'm a Pre-Med "A" student and love challenges, but her expectations are unattainable, especially with other classes.
Love this professor! I had her for both ochem 1 and 2. Read 3 chapters ahead if you can for ochem 2. Make a list of all of the reaction mechanisms. It will help you grasp the material better. Go to study groups, but also set aside times to do some solo study. Ochem is a challenging course and if you only rely on your professor, you won't pass.
This was the toughest class I've ever taken. She is tough, but she wants everyone to succeed. Extra credit points are given to add onto the exams, but I recommend to not cram material last minute. Your entire semester is devoted to her class, so don't overload. You do more for this class outside of class than any other. If I can do it, anyone can.
I absolutely loved her she's like a second mom to me now
If you want to really learn Ochem and make it stick forever, take her. She is the hardest Ochem professor here and she will make you earn your A. Her exams are hard and cover a lot of material. If you just want an easy A take someone else. Lots of HW and just work in general for her class
Dr. Dandekar is extremely scattered as she has no set notes. Often goes off topic during lecture and spends lots of time reminding students you should remember this from gen chem. The amount of time she spends saying that, the class could be a chapter ahead in organic chemistry. I found it very hard to learn from her and would not recommend.
I took O chem with her, toughest class I've ever taken. Sapling h.w at the end of every chapter with approximately 40 questions. Just know, if you take the class, you gotta study every single day.
I love chemistry, so this class was supposed to be something that made me feel immersed in the subject but the learning environment was HOSTILE. The guest lectures are nice but serve little purpose. The project presentations felt as it was created as an opp to publicly belittle everyone personally. She made a class advertised as fun feel dreadful.
Hardest class I have ever taken. Ochem is a difficult subject and her exams are as difficult as they get but there are things in place to help you. The final exam can replace the midterm exams although the final was pretty difficult. I failed the first test badly but I immediately worked harder and made an A in the class. Study EVERYDAY. Worth it.
Do the group project stuff and HW, itll boost your grade. The first test is easier than the second. The ACS test is easier than her tests and is similar to the ACS practice book. Study the ACS practice book and use the textbook to go over reactions not covered fully in class. It doesnt matter if you fail her quizes (I did) just pass the ACS test.
It's a very rigorous course consisting of: term project, two midterms, online sapling, final, and recitation assignments. I think an A is attainable I feel you work hard and study but a lot of students struggle in the class because they have no time to keep up. She offers a ton of extra credit for the exams to boost the grade and curves the final.
Dr. D does a great job at teaching Ochem and is a wonderful person to get to know. She'sa rigorous professor but IMO most of what makes the classes difficult is the subject itself. TBH tho the final curves for the class are huge. She also gives a HUGE amount of extra credit. My midterms were both over 100% from E.C. Overall nice OCHEM classes
Look, the fact of the matter is that half the students taking this class are premed. If you cant pass this class, you wont make it through med school. This class will prepare you for the MCAT. Go to the study groups, ask for help if you need it. She will work with you. If youre still struggling to pass, consider a different field.
If you want an easy A, take someone else. Be prepared to study because it's not easy. You must read the textbook. Sapling homework is online, but isn't like her exams. She is extremely sweet in person but not during class. Do not ask her questions you can easily look up. You have tons of resources and extra credit to succeed. Use them. Don't cram!
Professor Dandekar, is a really amazing professor. She gets straight to the point, and make sure you know the material before going to class and be able to look ahead in next chapters. Homework helps a lot in learning. Gives extra credit to help boost your grade. She is tough but that is a good thing. You must study on your free time to keep up.
Not only is organic chemistry tough but in this class you are expected to do a lot of self studying. Classes are designed to get you started but youre expected to study and master the subject. If you expect to make an A: diligently study every day, use school tutoring resources, and do not miss a single day of class. She gives alot of extra credit
Dr. Dandekar is a really great professor who is well-versed in organic chemistry. This class' level is catered to those preparing for health professions (medical, dental, etc.) and with diligent work, will prepare you for admissions into these programs. Ochem is *not* an easy subject, but Dr. Dandekar provides all the resources and tips to survive!
Despite OChem being one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, Dandekar gives plenty of opportunity to do well. There's so much homework and group assignments that you can still get a passing final grade if you fail all her tests. She does her best to make lecture interesting by finding some way to relate it to you.
Makes gen chem seem like a cakewalk.
By far the hardest class Ive ever took with the hardest professor. 2 exam grades plus the ACS. Doesn't teach from Solomons book just goes based off her own understanding so it's hard to get supplemental learning. If you want to pass study hours every day. Failed the ACS and ended up failing the class. ACS had little to no correlation to material.
i took her course about a year ago, i am now ready to write this review. her class: hard. lectures:not great. there are test banks, MEMORIZE those, it's how i passed. i am currently studying for the MCAT. Read the ochem review before taking her class, i swear it will help. no extra credit unless she knows u by name! see her often, it helps
dont take her if you dont have to
Dandekar is a great professor, very nice. but if you want to pass you need to study everyday, she gives a lot of extra credit and you will only know if you go to class everyday. There is a group project that is semester long and it will take all of your time. if i were you i would take someone else.
She gives extra credit randomly in class so attendance helps. There is a group project that is a large % of ur grade. 3 Exams and 1 gets dropped + final is curved. I do NOT recommend this class, it is EXTREMELY difficult and her fail/drop rates are high. Study out of the textbook. Powerpoints don't help for exams. Best of luck, cheers.
this class has been the hardest ive taken yet but for good reason. ochem is an important subject and dr. dandekar teaches it well. she will not go easy on you but if you really put in the effort, you will come out of this class better for it. her tests are difficult but she is encouraging and provides a lot of extra credit.
Ochem is a hard subject regardless of what professor you take. I decided to take Dandekar b/c she has a lot of cushion assignments. She does round your grade up a lot b/c I had a 77 but she rounded it up to a B. Lectures over class time, but she is a very caring individual. However, lectures are disorganized in my opinion. Find the test banks.
Difficult class unless you read your textbook. Her lecture notes aren't really helpful unless you truly understand the chem/ochem behind it. If you did well in her OCHEM then you should be fine in this. You will not pass without the textbook. 3 exams and a final with free response. No curves on exams. 10 Written assignments.
Lectures are so disorganized and will skip through the lecture notes which confuses everyone. She is not clear when she teaches and assumes that we already read the chapter before coming to class. She is very dedicated and kind lady, but she is very tough on the students. She does not curve tests, uses iClicker for quizzes, and has a group project
I also took Dandekar for CHEM2370. I've never had to work so hard in my life for a B. If you took Dandekar for 2370, you should be okay in this class. You will have to try so much harder, but you will also be more prepared. 2 exams and a final. Sapling hw and quizzes factor in. Go to study groups, SI sessions, and CRC tutoring. That's how you pass.
3 exams and final, but we were the guinea pigs. She's going back to 2 exams and final. Sapling hw and iClicker used for grading too. She's nice and she cares, but you have to work for your grade. She assumes you already know the material, so read your textbook before class. Go to study groups and ask questions. Study like your life depends on it.
Organic chemistry doesn't come naturally to most of us, it's a hard class, but Dr. Dandekar truly cares about her students and wants you to succeed. Show up to class, do the work, go to study groups, do practice problems, and go to office hours. You will succeed if you put in the work. It's not an easy A, but most things in life aren't easy either.
She is a very caring and passionate teacher. However, what she taught just matched the exams and homework partially. It's like she taught the reaction with one reagent and the exams will be 4-step reactions. Attendance is ungraded but mandatory. She does give some extra credit and curves after exams-max10pts. YOU HAVE TO STUDY LIKE CHEM IS UR LIFE
I think her teaching style would be much more effective in person but translates terribly online. She cares and tries to help you succeed if you put in the effort. Has a lot of cushion assignments. Study groups were probably the best part of the class, go to those.
The sapling assignments take a while to figure out if you don't understand the concept. Sapling is a terrible interface where you get no credit for the question if only one part of it is wrong. She gave no actual review except past sapling assignments and they were nothing like the exams which are horrific and each question has many parts. AVOID.
I've never had a teacher that cares more about her subject than Dr. Dandekar - she really wants to make sure her students learn it. It's tough for sure - but you're gonna get a better understanding of ochem with her than anyone else, and she provides you a bunch of resources to succeed. Great professor
Dr. Dandekar is a very kind professor who cares about her students. She will often replace your lowest test grade with your final if she sees you improve over the semester. She tends to go into tangents during her lectures, so if you only are wanting to pass the class, I do not recommend Dandekar. She is lovely but be prepared to work hard.
She was extremely disorganized throughout the lectures and berated students if they asked "dumb" questions during lecture. Her teaching abilities are almost non existent, same goes for her replies to emails or messages. If you want to pass this class, do NOT take it with her!
I did not like the way she teaches, very bad all she does is circles on the lectures and doesnt exactly answer questions. She will ask questions to the class and let students answer. There is a group project which is hard to do online. Unfortunately she makes you feel stupid and does say a few rude things to the class, she express you to know alot
Took her for ochem 2, not ochem 1 and review week was complete new material for me. Emailed for help and she said I should already know everything, did not help at all. Lectures meandering with little structure, week of test (3 chapters) we had only covered 1, she did not move test or take off chapters. Sapling. Does NOT follow syllabus.
I hear that Dr. Dandekar really does care for her students to succeed, and maybe that is true, but she definitely is not good at it. When I asked her a question, she told me that I should know how to do it by now and didn't help at all. Her lectures do not help anyone learn, you are better off learning from youtube. Does not believe in curves. 1/10
Honestly if you were expecting a professor that actually lectures over the materials in the textbook you would be dead wrong. Attendance is graded so don't think you will get out of that. You have 3 exams, and basically you need to learn for yourself with this professor. She has notes, but doesn't go over them.
Dr. Dandekar has a lot of resources available in her course. She provides study groups which also help out with the studying. Organic chemistry is going to be hard regardless, and she is great at explaining the mechanisms!
Keep in mind Ochem isn't exactly an easy class. She's not bad, gives lots of HW + other grades to help boost your grade. Doesn't teach from the textbook, but I 100% recommend getting it. Has built-in study groups which is nice, leaders had to make an A, but sometimes they aren't the most efficient. Know GenChem material very well!! GO TO CLASS.
I failed ochem w/ Berhe with a 54. Almost got an A w/ Dandekar. Go to every single study group, go to her office hours, do every practice problem in the textbook since they're harder than test questions. She'll see that you're trying and hard work gets noticed in her class. She became more than professor to me she became a role model and mentor.
Organic Chemistry is not going to be easy if you do not put in the work. Go to every single study group you have time for and do extra practice problems from the back of the book daily. Search for more than just one practice exam that is provided and you should be prepared for the test. She is one of the most intelligent professors I have ever had.
If you have a passion for chemistry & want to master organic chemistry, take her class. If you just need to understand the basics take someone else. The worst part of this class is that it lacks structure! During the lecture, she will talk about whatever organic chemistry subject is on her mind that day. You have to do most of the learning alone.
Dr. Dandekar is a notoriously difficult professor in the College of Science at UNT teaching an already difficult class. If you really want to understand ochem, take her. It's very very hard but she's a great teacher and it's pretty unreal how knowledgeable she is in her field. I might fail this class but at least i enjoyed my time in it lol
She is terrible. She knows a lot of information but cannot teach a class. She says whatever is on her mind, and is very passive aggressive with students. She is so disorganized, and she assigns so much work its unreal. Her group project is a pain, and her teaching methods are terrible. Do not take her at all
There is a lot of unnessecary homework that she assigned and her lectures are so unorganized. it felt like she was just saying random thoughts. My biggest complaint is how she worked CANVAS. I went into the final exam with a certain grade, and when I am writing this message my grade dropped 11 points in an hour. Do not take her.
This class is very difficult, not just because its organic chemistry, this professor makes it more difficult. To prepare for this class I recommend you review your chem information, look up review material on YouTube. Her lectures aren't easy to follow and she is hard to get a hold of out of class, but she does have study groups and a lot of grades
If you are a very visual learner who needs lecture notes or powerpoints, lectures that are on topic, and lectures that are on time, Dr. Dandekar is NOT meant for you. She handwrites her "notes" in class on a projector and expects you to be able to follow along with no context other than reading ahead in the textbook. Don't recommend at all.
Best professor Ive ever had. Goes above and beyond for her students. If you are trying to memorize your way through this class and forget everything afterwards, dont take her class. If you want to walk out of 2 semesters of Ochem and feel like you have a true foundation for grad school then you have the right professor.
