excellent history teacher. pretty much an easy A. open notes tests. very little homework.
easy as hell. clear lecture but boring, open notes tests and final. one essay, lets u know the topics at beginning of semester. easy take her!!!
open note quizzes and test. this class is very easy but boring.
She make histroy alive, you fail her class means you got problems. She is simply the best history teacher ever....Uganda and Netherlands have great teachers and alot other Universities i've been to, but she absolutely great and exceptional. Way to go Suz
The best history teacher I've ever had. Very organized and is clear in her lectures. Very open to comments and questions. Exams are open note. Great class!
She is great! She'll really work with you to refine your writing and research skills (scholars section). She is very interesting and well versed in many dimensions of history. She is also a very nice person.
Open notes exams. Easy writing assignments. Big research paper. Interesting class but the presentation is somewhat boring .
A very nice understanding teacher that brings the class to life...open note tests certainly a plus, but you still learn a lot and she does challenge you all while being very helpful!
I dont know why anyone would think Ms. Borghei is boring, she is a really great techer!! She really cares about the students and their success in the class. She also presents history in such a clear and organized way that it makes history really fun!
This was a scholars course. She grades pretty fairly, and all tests are open notes and have to write a research paper. The class is pretty boring but just take notes and you will be fine.
She is a really nice lady who cares about her students. Although there is a lot of material, she still attempts to make sure the students understand EVERYTHING. Not to mention tests are open note!! One research paper but she really will help you!
wonderful teacher. really makes the subject interesting. i always thought early american history was boring but after this class i find it really interesting. easy open note tests with clear study guides.
Shes easy lets you use your notes on tests and gives you a outline to fallow along with her lecture and is very interesting
Very sweet, nice.... Grades fairly consistent.... LOTS of reading but makes her tests and quizzes open note so its bearable. Overall a great teacher, highly recommended
best teacher ever!!!
THIS TEACHER IS BOMB BUT VERY TIDIOUS. SHE MAKES US HISTORY SOMEWHAT INTERESTING AND I HATE HISTORY LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. BORGHEI IS A DOPE TEACHER AND HEY MAN IF YOUR IN SCHOLARS TAKE HER YOULL ENJOY IT!!!PEACE
Excel Prof! Scholars class has research paper req'd & is done strictly out of class (this means a lot of extra reading!) Gives open note exams-she's straight up-interesting-nice-offers xtra credit opps, too-TAKE HER!
Shes really cool, it was a chill class. Not an easy A but open note test and quizzes make it really hard to do poorly. Gotta be detailed in your writings and essays though, she can be picky, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
I took this class for spring and there was sooooo much busy work. Three tests, weekly summaries, research paper with oral and 2 written parts! The good thing about this class though is the open note tests. She is a very nice lady.
Very informative, fun class. Open discussions on current events to include everyone's viewpoints. Lots of reading and lots of work but her organized handouts, open note tests, and accessability make an "A" easily attainable. Very nice and fai
Pontificates too much. Monotone. Very, very detailed. She is nice and steady and methodical, but almost retentive in every little assignment. She does love her work though. Just no passion. Scholar's class. Taking her is not a mistake. Just kind of boring.
She is a very sweet teacher but not the easiest grader. Open note quizzes and tests make her class very doable. Wouldn't say an easy A but defintely not a hard one. Scored a B w/out studying prior to exams.... Do take if you have the chance.
One of the sweetest ladies/professors. She's very meek in tone and appearance, but some how engages you into the world of history. She loves the subject, & wants her students to do their best. Not easy, but quite fair. Gives X-credit opportunities.
WAY WAY TO detailed, very boring, i tried very hard and she failed me
NOT EASY!!! Very challenging, hard grader. Easy B, HARDDDD A!
Pleasant but very monotone and dull. Knows her stuff but not engaging. Lectures are disorganized in class although she herself is very organized. Easy class but wants details & structure W/out "quotes." Somehow drains the life out of history. Uses overhead projector w/slides from book.
Make no mistake, this class is hard. While the open notes do help on multiple choice, they don't help enough on the in-class essay you'll have to write. She grades very tough on the essays which amount to the majority of your test grade.
Good prof but expect to work for your grade and to back up what you say logically with evidence/sources. A little monotone & presents material very basically, so plan to do most of the real research/studying on your own. Can seem brusque but actually very helpful if you go to office hours.
Don't take her. Shows no emotion, and is a VERY tough A. I'm sure she can be a good history teacher, but it didn't come through in class. Disorganized lectures, not helpful, and very unclear.
She is rude and her lectures do not prepare you for her tests. I had straight A's and she gave me a "C" in the class. She told me not to worry when I asked her about my grade in class, and that I was wroking towards an "A". SMC you can do better than this.
dont think this is an easy A. You will have to work for your grade in this class!
I just took her midterm during the winter session. We had to put checkmarks by all of our main points, and she gave me no explanation why I was graded 50 out of 60 on the essay. There have to be better teachers in the History department.
Don't take her class. Her lectures are unorganized and do not cover the material she tests you on. There are a lot of people from winter class that feel the same as I did, and I hope they post here also. Don't take this teacher, there are much better History teachers at SMC.
DO NOT TAKE HER BORING CLASS.HER LECTURES ARE UNCLEAR. HARD MULTIPLE CHOICE?. 2 DIFFICULT GRADING ESSAYS. YOU MUST NOT TAKE HER, UNLESS YOU ARE A NERD.
I highly recommend you dont take this class! I took it in winter and her lectures were unorganized and she often would talk about things that were irrelavant to the course. She is often inable to answer questions. Her tests are managable, however she never really prepares you for them.
She's thorough in her lectures, and interesting to listen to, but I still got a B in the class and I tried really hard for an A! It is an interesting time period, and well worth taking!

Easy Grader but very boring. Tests are easy. If your looking for an easy grade, take the class. If you are looking for an ethusastic and interesting teacher dont.
Very boring. Slides r from book. Not engaging at all. There are better choices out there. She was like Starbuck's. Go in get out it's java but not very good fills the requirements. History is very exciting in general But she slowly drained the life blood out of it and of you She's in a coma.
Wow, previous ratings really make her seem horrible. While the tests are hard like people mentioned here, she at least is really knowledgable and passionate about history. It's a hard class but extra credit makes an 'A' within reach. Good historian, but still working out her teaching method.
I'm going to file a complaint with the department head about Miss Borghei. She told me that her teacher in graduate school took her perfect paper, and marked it all up with red ink, and she didn't think that was fair. This was in response to asking about my midterm grade winter session. AVOID.
Professor Borghei is very dedicated teaching and bringing the course material to life. She is very knowledgable about almost every topic in history and will bend over backwards for her students. I am greatful to had her. Passing up the chance to take her would be a mistake.
I have her right now and she is B.O.R.I.N.G. Stromberg is better.
Good professor. Accepts late work, can use notes on tests and quizess, easy class if your not too lazy. Nice lady and good speaker. Gives opportunity for extra credit too.
Easy B, difficult A. Objective tests are extremely easy as long as you are slightly interested in history. Grades very hard on essays; an A essay easily becomes a C in her class. Boring lectures, but it's almost impossible to get below a B.
Took her for winter--very interesting!! However, she is an a-hole when it comes to grading. You can study hard, but unless you go that extra mile she will not give you anything more than a B--not an easy A!
if you ask a lot of questions she'll ger upset, but she will answer them. we asked so many questions we got a 2 out 3 of our quizes take have and 1 out of 2 tests take home. the final was half take home half in class. she's an easy teacher, but expects too much of essays. take her...you dont even have to attend class!
if you want an A, then you need to go to class every day there is class and take REALLY good notes. seriously, try to write down as much as you can on anything she says. take home quizes were a pain in the butt. need to be real descriptive and 'anal' in your essay responses. hard to get an A. not impossible, cause i got it.
She is a nice person and willing to help you make up test but very anal! She is strictly by the book. There are only 3 Test including the final and 3 take home quizes which are long thought out essay which you will need really good notes for. She is VERY punctual! She does not start her lectures a min late, and lectures the whole time. Very boring!
Take good notes and you will do well in her class. She is a very good teacher.
A lovely and understanding lady. Easy B, but an A takes some work. Go to class 80% of the time and youll do fine as long as you have good notes. Lectures are boring, but history usually is. Have fun with the end of semester projects and try to write insightful essays, little details make all the difference. Definitely take the class.
Awesome teacher! Highly recommend. Might seem intimidating at first because of all the writing but really not- stick to it and you won't regret it. A+++
Excellent class... Very passionate about the subject... Weekly writing assignments are a breeze, 1 page... Exams very strait forward. Can use all class notes and papers during exam. Makes sense to take notes.. Easy A
awesome teacher im taking her again for history 12
I took her for the summer semester. She was NOT easy, you have to study a lot for an A. Do NOT take this class if you want an easy A, you will end up with a B for good effort or worse. Very passionate lectures, interesting to listen to.
Excellent class.. I've taken a lot of history classes at SMC, all good professors, but Dr. Borghei is one of the best.
She is a horrible lecturer, and I will never take her again. She cancelled FOUR appointments I had with her during her office hour. RIDICULOUS.
Excellent class. She's very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. Weekly writing assignments are a breeze; exams are very straightforward. You can use all your class notes and papers during exam. If you want an A, then you need to go to class every day and take REALLY good notes.
Very easy! Just take good notes and ur guaranteed an A by using them on the tests, theyre open notes, very helpful
Awesome teacher!! She goes through history as if she is telling a story, so it is easy to take notes and comprehend. Tests are open note, and very easy if you just put a little time in. The homework is super easy and only takes maybe an hour out of your week. She seems tough but is super nice if u talk to her. One of the best at SMC!!
Do not take her class if you're international students. Class is boring. She speaks too much. If you're good notes-taker like native students, it will be fine. Her grades for essay tests and sammary homworks are very severe like ESL teacher. She cares about the contents too much. And I am already tired of sammarize readings as homework each week
Borghei lectures as if narrating a story, she is extremely interesting and professional, this being said, class requires some work. On an eight-week course, requires about ten pages worth of assignments/week (two chapters/week). Exams, 2 open notes and 1 final, take detailed notes in class. Thank you DR. I learned tons from your class LF
i have never had a better professor. she is amazing.because of her i have a new passion for history..seriously. she is clear, helpful, understanding, and truly wants to see you succeed. shes not out to fail you. her hw is a little much at first, tests are not hard/u can use notes. i reccomend her to everyone.
good teacher. lectures can be a bit long at times. if u read the book, take good notes an write good essays ull get an A no problem.i ihgly recommend her.
Im an international student, n she makes US history understandable to me. Juz listen carefully to her lectures. Exam r straightforward, juz abt the big pic. vy easy, u can BRING UR NOTES INTO EXAM! she wants understanding, not meaningless memorizations. Definetely one of the best teacher you will encounter in life, coz she is super carin n warm :)
she is an awesome prof. you really get a sense of what it was like to live 100 years ago. she gives a lot a reading and writing assignments. i wouldn't recommend taking her in winter or summer. the good thing is she doesn't really grade too hard. she gave 3 extra credit assignments that were easy. i definitely recommend her if you're hard working.
I took the class over Winter, so it was a lot more intense than during the semesters. However, Borghei is a great teacher but you have to be willing to work and take A LOT of notes from her lectures. She gives reading and writing assignments that help you better understand what she lectures on in class. It is possible to do very well in her class.
Great prof. There's alot of reading with follow-up writing for both books, but as long as you stay with it, the test are straight-forward enough that an A isn't impossible. She's really helpful and is willing to explain sections to you if you're not missing a concept or overlooking an idea. Her test are essay heavy but doable. Definately recommend
I do not recommend this professor at all. She is extremely vague when giving assignments and will say she wants one thing, and expect another. She is pretty hard to please, so expect comments like, "Too brief," followed by, "Too detailed." The textbook is extremely unclear. Don't expect to learn too much in this class.
AMAZING!! Incredible lecturer, extremely knowledgable and very fair. This is not an easy A but you will learn a lot and will be rewarded if you work hard. I absolutely LOVED this class!!!
Welcome to college people! She is an excellent professor and you will learn a lot from her! You have to do note summaries every week, an oral presentation, and 2 exams which are both scantron and essay. TAKE HER if you want to learn!!!
Great professor!!!! She has a great understanding of what she is teaching and she gives many different perspectives. I learned a lot and even decided to major in U.S. History. Thank you Dr. Borgei!!! S.F.
Lazy? What are you talking about? This class is by no means a challenge, but it is very long and drawn out, and by that i mean profusely and mundanely boring. It was a constant challenge attempting to endure her monotone voice and stay awake, and she turned a great chapter of history into a boring blur. ZZZZZZZZZZ
Super super sweet, but will work you like a slave.
Question to all the students who have taken her are you able to use notes on test/quizes ?
This class was more tedious than hard. She requires extensive notes to be taken for each chapter, which she collects and grades. I don't quite understand how someone can grade notes since she's not in your head, but whatever. Notes are allowed on the test, but really aren't that helpful.
The real challange is to stay awake. And the freaken notes! Totally useless and they take up alot of time since every chapter is about 40 pages and so incredible boring. Seriously don't take this class unless you're really into American history. And don't take it if you have another demanding class because this one will take up your time.
She was a good teacher, yes it was boring, yes theres a lot of note taking, the tests are not hard. She explains everything in detailed. Shes a teacher that actually knows her subject and enjoys teaching it.
I now understand what people meant when they say she works you like a slave. extensive note taking (2pg single spaced) every week. tricky test questions. I am an A student and I got a B in this class. Libertarians be aware. TAKE THIS CLASS ONLY IF YOUR A HISTORY MAJOR!
Scholars class, A LOT OF NOTES!!! Midterm, Final, Research Paper, LOTS OF HW!!! SHE WILL WORK YOU LIKE A SLAVE! i got a B in this class, got a C on the midterm and final. not too hard, somewhat boring, wont fall too behind if you miss a class or 2. Lots of extra credit, DO THEM! like 50 points in total if you do them all, well worth it, saved me
Professor Borghei is the best teacher I've had at SMC so far. I took Hist 10 & 11, both were intense 8 week courses that I enjoyed greatly. There are some musts to get an A: show up to class and do the reading. Lectures are interesting and informative. Tests (chunk of it is essay)are hard but she allows you to use your notes.
she is a nice person, but her lectures are pretty boring and the worst: she gives crazy homework! you will have to write a 3 page, single-spaced summary of a chapter in the book (around 40-50 pages) and of two documents (each 3 pages) EVERY week! the only good thing: she lets you use notes in the exams. i hated the homework.
you have to do the homework in this class. Its not too hard once you get the hang of it, but it can be tedious. its worth it though, because you get to use all the homework and notes you take in the class on the tests. no major papers in the class, just essay questions for the tests. most of the test is on lectures, so goig to class is a must
Do not take her. Shes nice but theres so much work you want to kill yourself. There is a ten page research project which you have to start from the beginning because its so hard to do. Then her documents are such tiresome work, and even though she lets u use it on the test they don't help!! I do not recommend!
Dr. Borghei is a great teacher, I love her class! Yeah there's def homework but she has good solid discussions in class and you leave with a much better understanding than you get from the book. And she'll take time to explain whatever you're having trouble with in office hrs. Overall really like her, but don't expect her class to be easy.
I really enjoyed her class, I took the 8 week class with her, and it went by fast. She keeps a 3 hour lecture really entertaining. She gives chances for extra credit, and most of her tests are based off her notes and lectures. I highly suggest this class! She may be a little difficult, but not impossible to get an A if you work at it, I sure did.
WARNING: This class ain't for slackers! I liked attending her class, hearing her lectures, and didn't mind doing the assignments but I ended up getting a 'C' in the class. If you take her, make the effort to study hard, ask questions in class, and talk to her during her office hours. Having a critical understanding of the material is crucial!
I LOVED Dr. Borghei. If you want a teacher who knows her stuff, and keeps the class awake and happy...TAKE HER! I think she is the best teacher I have ever taken at SMC. To get an A do your work!! reading, homework, and attendance...Do that and the Exams will be easy. Bonus- if you need it you can bring notes into exams! SAVE $$ Buy Books Online...
Pretty dull personality but nonetheless a very good professor and you will learn a lot if you pay attention. She knows how to teach and will make the material very clear. Three exams, each an essay, short answer and MC. She made the essays on our last two essays take home, so if you combine that with her study guides, you can easily do well.
Dr. Borghei is one of a kind. very nice teacher willing to help you in office hours, she acknowledges your hard work and participation, got A in her class even I am not a good writer. she is amazing. loved her. thank you Dr, if you read the rates ever! take her if you want to really learn and live this time of the history
Do not take this class if you are lazy or are not interested in history. she really knows her stuff and is passionate about it and she expects you to be also. she gives out documents to analyze every weekend. you also have to complete study sets which are HARD. take the class seriously and you will enjoy it. shes a great person
Do not take the scholars class of History 13 if you have anything else going on in your life. It is ridiculous. There is a crazy amount of work that goes non-stop. This Professor, I felt, did not provide clarity with the major assignments. However, students are able to speak to her during office hours. If you enroll- GOOD LUCK- you'll need it!
Great teacher, but be prepared for work. Especially studying for tests, if you can memorize a lot of stuff quickly, then good for you, if not (like me), expect to sit looking at the textbooks for days ahead of the test (not even exaggerating).
She is not an easy professor but she is willing to cooperate with students as she wants to make sure that each and everyone in her class understands the materials she is handing. If you decide to read this class, you will read many first hand documents, think about them thoroughly, and write really well about what you read. She is magnificent.
She is very knowledgeable and expects a lot from you. Do all the work and you still might not get an A. If you like History, take her. If not, you won't have an easy time. There are almost weekly assignments. Attendance and participation are important.
Good grief! I love history so I don't mind working hard, but I do mind a professor being unable to make lecture even remotely interesting. She's a boring lecturer in the class, and extremely cold/lacking social skills in office hours. don't take her!
Apparently it's not impossible to Ace her exams, because I did. She gives us the essay questions beforehand, and has office hours so it's really easy to run a few concepts by her before exams if you aren't cramming. I have found her to be extremely helpful, but that's because I do the work and participate in class. She's an easy A for me.
A lot of required reading and homework weekly, but she really structures her class in a way that you truly understand the material, she emphasizes no memorization needed, so open notes are encouraged for exams. I enjoyed history with her.
As a lecturer she is deadly boring. If you ever thought history could be interesting, she'll make you change your mind. She's also not very helpful and a hard grader. Lots of busy work
I have always dreaded history classes and surprisingly she really interested me and kept me awake EVERY lecture and my class was at 8am. She has a strict policy on being tardy, so be on time!! Yes there is a lot of work but you learn a lot and it pays off. The tests are somewhat challenging but open note! Great teacher!!
Professor Borghei is one of the most effective instructors I have come across at SMC. Her hist 13 course is very intense and you should not take the class If you plan on skating by without applying yourself. That being said, I am truly blessed to have taken her class. As a history major, I highly recommend Professor Borghei.
Lots of work, but A is attainable. I love history but she made me hate it. Not only is she totally boring but she is such a mean person. Would not reccomend.
She's a good professor, but speaks in a rather soft voice, so some may find that boring. I didn't, though. Her class is definitely more difficult than your average history class, but it's intellectually rewarding. I highly recommend her. Oh, and I also recommend to study thoroughly for her essay exams...yes, they are essay exams.
One of the best classes I have ever attended.
She was a difficult and not a helpful professor what so ever. Mean & I bet no one likes her. You literally have to read the whole textbook to pass plus she makes everything so hard & stressing for everyone, I will definitely never ever take her class again.
Just a big no no. I do not recommend her for any History class, just a pain in the ass & stressful. Her voice makes you not concentrate, & she's really mean.
Dr. Borghei knows her stuff and how to teach it. Her lectures are great and very concise (ie you can take very clear notes). Be prepared to take notes on the reading. The in-class essays are not "easy" but are open note. So, if you take clear notes and make a timeline you should have no trouble. Don't miss a class! But you won't want too :)
Loved Dr. Borghei, her lectures are wonderful and she makes history fun.
Tests are long & gives you 2 essays to write in each test. Final test was a 6 page essay & 2 page essay. Other than that she gives you minimal homework.
She gives you a 6 page & a 2 page essay as a final, but you can do it in home. Her tests contain 2 essays each time. Other than that, she gives minimal homework
Suzanne is awesome! Honestly best history teacher I've had! And I've taken quite a few history classes. She is understanding and very helpful. She gives homework but nothing unmanageable. Her lectures are very interesting and if you don't understand something she will take class time and explain it to everyone so that is becomes clear.
Professor Borghei is awesome. She is very clear and helpful. She just asks in the exam what she has covered with the class. She is specific in what she wants, so that's no a problem. Tests are doable if you study. She is very passionate about what she does and she knows the U.S. history very well. Take her, study, and learn a lot!!!
You have homework every week due monday, just one assignment. Two essay tests and a essay final you can do at home. Her class can be interesting, but it can be very boring, just long lectures every class. It is an easy class, if you study and try you will get an A. You do do reading and she has you read articles she provides.
She grades tough, too much homework, theres extra credit but if you dont do it your grade drops. Work hard.
Class is easy to follow and assignments are clear. She grades tough, either I'm too specific or not specific enough in my assignments. I take online classes because I have a full time job; I really disliked how she begins her modules every Wednesday rather than Mondays, gives me 4 days to work on reading, assignments, AND discussions. I'm over it.
There will be no A for effort in this class. You have to write what she wants, or you get marked down. She leaves notes on your papers, but doesn't make sense. I took an online class as it allows you to use the whole week to get assignments done, but she starts hers on Wednesday's. Lot's of writing, I forget if Im in history or english class.
REGRET IT! She grades really tough, I was able to look at the mean for ech discussion assignment and hey averaged at around 12.5 out of 20. She makes you write a 5-6 page paper for exams, her modules open Wednesday instead of the traditional mondays, this sucks because there are only 4 more days to do the large amount of assigned work. No time!!!!
Easy class but dull. Lecture is hard to sit through and she is very outspoken about her political beliefs. Not many assignments, there is an easy quiz every week and 3 in class essays (open note) and a final.
She doesn't care about students, wants you to be extremely detailed her way. She always has a comment and has a problem with giving 20/20.. always 19/20 just because her ideals are more perfect. She has the most F up schedule unlocking assign. on T to be due on the weekend? NO LATE WORK she wouldn't care if u had a heart attack. bad spelllo charac
Hardest class Ive ever taken. I am a straight A student but was literally having a mental breakdown every weekend about how much homework there was to do. So much reading and writing and exams are Essays. I got a 100% but there was nothing easy about this class. My entire weekends were consumed by this class for an entire semester. Don't take it.
She'll give you a lot of feedback on your assignments and delineate how you could improve your answers. The problem is that once you do incorporate your feedback into your work, she'll accuse you of plagiarism. I've never been accused of plagiarism before by a prof, and take extra care to not plagiarize, so that was disappointing. Skip her.
Entire class was easily navigable. All 4 exams were essays. There was A LOT of reading to do (lectures, documents, book). It was very difficult to ever get a perfect score on the HW, it felt like she knit picks on things to dock points for. Definitely need to read/understand to pass the class. Overall enjoyable and fascinating class
