Excellent professor, very helpful,
Dr. Buffamanti is one of my all time favorite professors. She is compassionate, and understanding, and I like the books she choses for her classes. She is a great teacher.

If you don't like sleeping then take this class. The work load will drain you, but after it is over you will feel great about everything you have accomplished. The class is a ton of work (and im not kidding) but you will seriosuly learn so much. As for hte professor, she is a nice person, and a pretty fair grader.
Buffamanti made the class interesting even tho the subject was not very interesting. A lot of writing is required in LIT 213, however Ms. Buffamanti was very fair in her grading. She was also very helpful and made the class fair for everyone.
Professor Buffamanti was a good teacher overall. Her grading is fair, and she will help assist you when needed.
Took class online. Started out ok, but as class wore on, she got more picky and it was harder to get a good grade. Liked her choice of literature though.
My 1st class @ NCCC and it was a summer class. Required a lot of writing, however the Prof was easy to work with. Yes she was tough but college isnt meant to be a walk in the park.
Professor Buffamanti did not explain assignments well
SHE GIVES OUT A LOT OF WORK BUT IF U R IN CLASS AND DO THE WORK U SHOULD DO GREAT SHE IS A REALLY GOOD TEACHER I WOULD TAKE HER CLASS OVER IF I HAD TO!!!!!!
I took this class online. Suzanne was very professional about her work. The clarity of some of her assignments was poor. A lot of students were confused about what she wanted in our papers and such. I emailed her with an important question once and she never ended up answering me. Maybe she is a better teacher in person than on the internet.
I donnot reccomend this class to anyone online! She seems like she is a very nice person because she encourages you to hang in there-and you need it in this class! It is the most work that I ever had in one class-EVER!I was often confused of what she intended on assignments because of her use of words-I think she is too much of a smarty pants!
This was my first AND LAST online class. I spent most of time doing work for this particular class and that took away from my more imperative classes. Yes, it's required, but does it have to be so much? We were assigned to read Othello and The Piano Lesson at the same time!! DO NOT take online!
This teacher holds herself on a pedestal and thinks the world of herself. You must address her as Dr. Buffamanti need I say more. She looks down upon her students and expects Harvard quality work out of Community College students.
Dr. Buffamanti is a good teacher who expects you to keep up in class. For those who seem to think she is a taskmaster, she is not, she just has expectations. If you think these grades are "Harvard" grades, better never go to Harvard :)
Took the class online and found her to be extremely difficult, and often very rude. She refuses to recognize that students may know something about something and is constantly accusing of people googling things..which is not allowed. I was offended by her.
She runs her classroom like we're in high school. LOVES to hear herself speak. She's a high-strung control freak and takes snobbery to a whole new level. Don't bother going the extra mile. She only focuses on the negative. Her class could be great if she'd just lighten up. Students learn better when they're stimulated POSITIVELY. She's too "-".
Professor often has higher expectations of community college students than they have of themselves.Professor is not very flexible. Work not difficult but time consuming. An ideal class for a English major;she just gets it.
Fair. Read the books, read her assignments, do the work and you'll get an A. Her deadlines are weird though and difficult for a full-time employee and any one who has a life to keep up with. They are never on the same day and sometimes on the weekends. She does provide the class with a syllabus at the beginning of the semester.
I would not take any class offered with her as the teacher. You should get a good grade as long as you read and do the work BUT unfortunately it is either her way or the high way. Your opinions are always seen to be wrong by her and if you express something that she doesn't agree with or is her way of thinking, be prepared for low grades.
She should be a high school teacher because she treats her students like children. She is ALWAYS right no matter what. She loves to hear herself talk so be prepared for a very dry and boring class. I would not recommend this class to anybody unless you have an obsession with old films and enjoy doing a lot of hard work.
professor buffamanti is a great teacher
This is the worst class I ever took online. Her answer is ALWAYS the right one, no matter what. Shes good at making her students feel stupid. The assigned readings were so damn dry and boring. If you have to take this class, take it on campus or find a different teacher. She is just brutal and I cant wait until this semester is over with.
the WORST...I took it online. Like everyone else says she's always right! Went in for help only to leave more discouraged then when I went in..gave me a zero on my final paper b/c it was submitted in PDF format like EVERY assignment all semester instead of RTF format....DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES!! grades unfair wont tell you what you did wrong
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!! Her assignments are pointless. She isn't clear on what she wants done for the assignments. She thinks she is always right.
Horrible. In high school I got all A's in every englsh class and I take hers and I'm failing. She has a strong, "my way or the high way" persona. Argues anything you say. Thinks her ideas are the only right ones. Worst class ever.
She was a different teacher. She enjoys her job, but I feel was too demanding of her writing 1 students who might need a little more guidance than she offers.
Not very clear/ understanding.
She pushes you to do your best, and if you cooperate you really learn!
Let me first start out with saying that this was my first time back in school in 5 years and I am doing exceptionally well in ALL of my classes except for her class. She is not lenient by any means for missing classes even if you turn the work and her directions that she uses on ANGEL are not clear at all. NEVER AGAIN.
Worst teacher ever! Not lenient at all with grades! Her way or the high way. Not clear on directions in assignments. Too strict. Never again
Impossible to please! There goes my deans list GPA. Terrible experience. Terrible teacher. Very confusing expectations and very harsh grader. Hours and hours of work, for nothing! DO NOT TAKE her class!
Do. Not. Take. simple as that. so many essays that take hours on hours to write. then you recieve a 60%. Just an awful class, such a mess, long hours of work for a bad grade. dont take it
I had a good experience with Professor Buffamanti. She made the class fun for me, and I had as easy a time with essays as you could have. As long as you have good attendance and do your work, you should get a good grade.
Don't get me wrong, Professor Buffamanti is an okay person. But as a teacher? Can't say the same. She expects way too much from her students, especially for a community college. She expects your papers to be the quality of a Harvard student's essay. She really likes movies, and you WILL be writing about movies for the first half of the course.
She's really nice and quirky but if you don't try, you won't pass. She will make you work for it. Good teacher! I liked her
She should not be so harsh of a grader. I go to school for culinary not to become a professional English major.
Expect to write an essay every week. This class is terrible and way too much for an intro class.
Professor Buffamanti was an incredible English professor. She is fun, approachable, and always willing to help. One of our first assignments was to write a poem describing ourselves. I have never laughed my way through an assignment more. If given the opportunity I would take 100 more of her classes.
Do not take her for any English courses. She grades very harsh. She likes to do a lot of group assignments during class. Also essays may seem easy but once you get your first grade you realize how critical she is.
I have ALWAYS excelled in my English classes. Her assignments are all over the place, and discussions are ridiculously involved (if you don't post within the first three days or you post more than once on the last day, you can't get higher than a C). She doesn't teach, he just assigns, and her grading is brutal. Bye Bye Dean's List.
She does sometimes take the long/confusing way to explain things, but if you just ask for clarification, she will sit down with you until you get it. She likes people to think for themselves, she won't be feeding you the answer. For the love of God, don't just summarize the literature, use your brain and post creatively! It helps everyone in class!
Professor Buffamanti has passion and knowledge for literature and movies. Her class is tough, but it is because she cares about the material. She is almost always available for help or questions. Attendance was not mandatory but I recommend going; often class lectures hint at test content. You can also download books online instead of buying them.
Dr. Buffamanti is a very nice person. She really enjoys what she does and enjoys literature. It is very obvious through her work. After 10 years of being back to school her class is a little difficult considering I dont care for literature. Lots of papers and discussions. Participation is a must! Now done with the class..i feel like im doing okay.
She takes forever to grade, and is a super hard grader!
I took the online course, hoping it would work with my schedule, as I could do the assignments when I had the time. However, you end up having something due almost every other day. Then if you even miss3 assignments, you're probably gonna get a C for the class, at best. Also, some of the assignments were extremely unclear. I ended up withdrawing.
Dr. Buffamanti is an amazing teacher. Her feed back is great! She really cares for the students she is teaching that is willing to help themselves. I am hoping to never talk her class again only because I do NOT like English classes. However if she taught another class I would jump in, in a heart beat!
English is my best subject, I usually get A's. Dr. Buffamanti however isnt a very easy grader nor is she lenient. She expects way too much of her students. Be prepared to be called on & do lots of reading bc she will do in-class closed book assignments and want specifics. Im a few weeks in and she killed my spirit for English & literature.
Ridiculous. Instructions for assignments are unclear. Instructions are EVERYWHERE on blackboard. They contradict each other and don't make any sense. I strongly recommend avoiding this class at all costs, suck it up and take it in class. I'd rather take Calculus online. Its a community college 102 class for pete's sake.
Class was challenging, can be time consuming & huge effort. She expects her students to do research and if article found, must be run by her to approved. It's not easy, but she allows other students use already approved. If nothing understood of her hw, talk to her &ask questions. Try to read ahead of the books& hw won't regret it. She's awesome
Professor does care about students and is available for feedback, however if you are not a perfect writer you will only pass by the skin of your teeth. Even my English classes at UB were not this difficult. I've never had so much anxiety over one class, even if she know you are trying really hard no lenience is given. Best of luck to ya.
This professor truly cares for all her students and she wants nothing more for them than to succeed. I never really cared for english, but by the end of the semester i had grown very fond of it. If you put forth the time and effort and seek help when needed, you can expect great outcomes from this course.
If you're not a "theater kid" do NOT take this class, if you want to risk your GPA take this class. Shows clear favoritism toward students who are outgoing & theatrical in class. Assignments are very confusing & she expects no less than perfection. Offers no leniency when grading. Lectures are hard to follow & don't prepare you for assignments.
Professor Buffamanti is the worst professor DROP Film as a Literature IMMEDIATELY. She has a huge course load of work for students like reading a full book and watching the movie at the same time then requiring you to write a research Essay on the film and the book. This course is time consuming and if you are taking over 15 Credits DROP THE CLASS.
Hard grader. Gives 100 on drafts, but then low grades for final papers. Does offer extra credit which is what helped my grade.
I normally receive As in English being that it has always come naturally to me. Dr. Buffamanti completely changed that and my outlook on English. A lot is expected in a very short amount of time for an introductory class, too much for a 101 class. Her instruction was also very unclear. I wouldnt take her if it is avoidable.
English is my least favorite subject I had to work really hard to get the grade I got. She is willing to meet with you outside of class but is a tough grader. She does not let you resubmit an essay after it was graded. I wouldn't take a class with her again.
Professor Buffamanti will make you work hard in her class; but if you do the work it is so well worth it. She doesn't choose agonizingly hard and boring books or movies and really does care about her students' grades and well-being.
Professor Buffamanti has crushed any passion I have for literature. She grades incredibly harsh for a COMMUNITY COLLEGE. I read her instructions and feel confused from the beginning. I dread doing work for her class to the point Ive brought it up in my therapy. Her workload is overbearing and I took 18 credit hours while in nursing school!!
Dr. Buffamanti ruined English/Literature for me. She made it nauseating to even think about. Her instruction was so unclear and so confusing. And I think she only thinks you're taking her class because her assignments leave no time for anything else. I ended up just giving up towards the end of the semester and let her give me an F.
I am a straight-A student, I've always excelled in school and I've never had trouble with English. With that being said... Avoid this woman at all costs. She assigns work like her class is a full-time job.
just no
Avoid this class by all costs. I'm not a big literature person, I took ENG01 so decided taking this course instead of the next English course. Instructions are very unclear. There's due dates but she still emails and gives you missing's, even if you do not submit the paper when she wants you to. Very HEAVY load of work. 4 movies every chapter.
Took this class and was very unclear when you first start. She assigns a lot of work. Almost 4 movies in every unit. No breaks. Assigns work on holidays. Her posts are lengthy and hardly worded. Kinda dramatic and makes this harder to understand what you're doing. She says not to do everything all at once but you kind of have to catch a break.
Would not recommend taking this Professor. Very strange grading style, VERY UNCLEAR AND TERRIBLE directions. Rubric changes throughout every assignment and different to everyone. Impossible to take class while working, even though thats what a community college is for. Feels like you are being targeted, 1% match on safe assign, auto fail paper.
I would say English is one of my stronger classes but after this class i dont even know. If you are working, taking this class will absolutely stress you out! Ive never written a review before but this class was unbelievably hard and there were long assignments due just about every day. Stay away from this prof if you can!!
She gives out WAYYYYY too much work, and is very condescending when talking to her students. I love English, it's one of my favorite subjects. This class has given me panic attacks, and she treats this class like its a fourth level class. She doesn't even give criticism that is beneficial or in time for you to improve for the next assignment.
Having had her before, I was excited to have Buffamanti again. Until she started unfairly assigning heavy amounts of reading, papers with unclear instructions, and unfair grading that is not consistent. You must do the papers her way, no creativity allowed. And the final paper she gave no real guidelines, just rules she cant make understandable.
Avoid this teacher at all costs, unless you are taking all really mellow classes other than this you will not have time for this course load of work. She loves to be the smartest person in the room, which often ends up in the assignments being undecipherable, and is literally a pick me girl to boot. Ask your advisors to sub classes or dif teachers!
I'll admit I should have worked harder, but don't risk your GPA.. Feels like you can't do anything right, and she's an overly tough grader. Very demoralising to be in her class. Criticism isn't clear, nor is the rubric, which is also confusingly strict. I wish she would learn from RMP. There's some good advice on here, amongst the harsh reviews.
Prof Buffamanti is a great person, she had a good reading list of stories and poems that was (mostly) interesting to read. The instructions were really unclear for a lot of the assignments, and her BB page is not organized well. The last unit on Hamlet, I couldn't find the movie she was talking about so just used an audiobook instead. TLDR: Chaos.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS EVER!!! Horrible grading with little to no feedback, nonsensical discussion deadlines, poor organization, and inconsistent expectations. Not even my tutor understood the instructions to one of the first assignments. Got an A minus by the skin of my teeth and I took eng101 in high school. Pick literally any other professor.
Way too many essays had to be done within a very short timeframe. It was essay after essay, and she graded horribly.
The amount of work given is insane she provides extra credit but even that is an insane amount of work and you wont have time to do it between the rest of the work required There is no pleasing her every week it seems like you are doing worse She could really use a reality check by taking a look on here about how her students feel.
Dr. Buffamanti. has singlehandedly sucked all the joy out of english. I have never had so much displeasure from being in a room with someone. She HAS to be right. She will offer you help, just in the most unclear way as possible. Never take her course unless you want to write 1,200 word papers in 2 days, and then falsely accused of using AI.
I have Professor Buffamanti for an online English 2 class, and I can't say I would recommend this class to anyone, ESPECIALLY those taking one or more online classes due to a busy schedule. I am a full time student with two jobs, since taking this class I have been stressed and have no time for anything. Online classes are supposed to be flexible.
She over complicates her directions and homework which makes in 10x harder than it needs to be. If you don't do things HER way then you will fail.
She is a very demanding instructor who holds her students to extremely high standards. She tends to assign a large amount of reading and writing within short timeframes, which can be overwhelming. One of the biggest challenges is the inconsistency between what she says she wants in an assignment and what she actually grades for.
Everyday, I hoped I would crash on the way to this class so that I did not have to go.
Dude I thought I was doing so well in this class until the end of term. Her attendance policies are ridiculous and there is no way to get a 100% in her class unless you do all the extra credit.
Buffamanti assigns a heavy workload which is overwhelming. She is difficult to reach, making it challenging to get clarification/support. Extra credit assignments are as long as the curriculum. Expectations are excessive and it seems like she is more focused on proving her academic credentials rather than fostering success. 2/10 wouldn't recommend.
I am a person who would do all my work and achieve good grades but good lord! so much work and no matter how much effort you put into the class (that others won't) she will still not give you very good grades. very rude and condescending! wants everyone to be an english scholar.
Get ready for the worst migraines of your life. This class really stressed me out and took up so much of my workload. One of my biggest issues while taking her class was that everything was so extensive. I felt like I was drowning most the time and I've never felt this way throughout my education. It may be different for others, but I struggled.
