This professor is pretty good. Honestly, CHEM 1212 is going to be hard no matter which professor you have. Just be aware that she is not accessible outside of class at all. I have emailed her 5 times this semester without one response. She is nice, and the clicker questions that you do in class are helpful for the tests.
She teaches completely different to how she tests you. She teaches strictly math-based problems and makes tests extremely conceptual. She doesn't actually write the progress checks so typically they are over stuff we haven't covered in class. She, however, is the only professor that teaches Chem2 here, so good luck cause you'll be teaching yourself
The lectures were math based while the tests were about 50% conceptual. However, she made the tests so the math-based questions in class helped for only half the test. She didn't responded to any of my emails (limited accesibility). She doesn't make the progress checks so those were different than the lectures. You have to teach yourself.
Tests are extremely difficult and don't cover what she teaches in class. If there is a concept you don't understand she is of no assistance during office hours or email. She just states it is a difficult course and good luck. Be ready to teach yourself. Even when 90% of the class answers the question wrong in class, she still doesn't clarify.
Dr. Ellenberger is by far my favorite Chem 1212 prof at UGA. She takes time to actually briefly explain the material and then goes into practice problems. Also, she'll sometimes give bonus clicker points if you show up on days when a lot of students are expected to skip. Also, she's good at explaining the material well and helping if needed.
So UGA chemistry is already pretty challenging no matter what professor you have. I think Sue is a pretty solid choice. She actually covers material that you need to know and I think she does a decent job of it unlike my 1211 professor. She is pretty funny and actually makes the class enjoyable. She asks lots of clicker questions which is good.
Sue is one of the nicest professors I've had at UGA. Chemistry is already hard enough and Dr. Ellenberger will sit down with you and help you understand the material. I would definitely recommend going to her office hour if you are ever confused and start early because you don't want to go too long without getting help. Study her powerpoints!
She's a very good option for chemistry and was much better than the other UGA chemistry professors I've had. She takes time to make sure that she covers most of the types of questions that are on the test in class. However, the class is still extremely difficult (the nature of chemistry, not because of her), and was harder than the first chemistry.
Chemistry is hard no matter what teacher you take but Professor Ellenberger is a solid choice. She explains things very well in her lectures and answers all questions. Grade mainly based on 4 tests and a final so make sure you know how to do the homework (most questions come from there). She uses clickers religiously so show up to class.
Has a bajillion students so take that into consideration when asking for help or trying to email her. Good teacher and prepares you well for the tests, but you still have to put in a loooooooot of work outside of class.
Out of all the gen chem classes, Sue is probably you best shot but you will have to teach yourself a lot. She will waste lecture time by giving you problems to do and then waiting way too long to work them through. The test are about 30% math and 70% conceptual problems she didn't talk about. Be prepared to teach yourself to do well.
Sue might be the BEST one for GenChem! She takes more time to explain the material instead of only doing clicker questions. She made our exams more conceptual, but half the exams were old or similar to progress checks. Keep up & understand the material after each PC!
She uses clicker questions as her "teaching method" in class, and they're all graded on whether they're correct or not. She does NOT teach. She got mad at a student yesterday for coughing, so she stopped explaining a problem and moved on. Do not take this class with her. She explains nothing.
I can't tell you how many times she has said " I assume you know this so ill just skip it," many times following a clicker question that 15% of the class got correct. She rarely works out problems in class but rather says she will post the solutions soon but doesn't do it until a week later. She has not been beneficial to my learning, seriously.
She is nice as a person but a terrible teacher. Practically teaches everything backwards. We take weekly quizzes and are graded for it before she goes over it in class. She hardly lectures, just throws problems at us and tells us we should know this after we get them wrong. Pretty much feels like you are teaching yourself.
She's more thorough than my 1211 professor but can be very condescending. Office Hours are where I learn the most other than on my own. I don't get much out of class but go for the clicker points. UGA Chem sucks but Dr. Ellenberger is alright. I don't think it matters who your prof is because the class is extremely difficult because of its set up.
She is a good professor, but UGA chemistry will kick your butt no matter who you take. She is really accessible outside of class and her office hours allow you to learn so much better than in class. Overall, chem is hard, but she is definitely one of the better chem professors at UGA.
Dr. Ellenberger is a really good chem professor. It is obviously a hard class (which is why she is rated a bit lower), but she does everything she can to make it easy. Highly Recommend
She's honestly one of the best chem professors UGA has had because she really cares about her students.
Professor Ellenberger as an instructor is amazing. She really wants to help you understand the concept, especially if you attend her office hours. She does a lot of clicker questions but in a limited amount of time. But the content itself is very hard, and you have to do some extra studying outside of class to really understand. Good Luck!
I wouldn't say she was what is difficult about the class, it's more so how the class was structured. She definitely knows her stuff and makes the test for 1210, so ask a ton of questions. She just doesn't teach unless you ask questions, so make sure you do. Study the hand outs a lot and get on her good side and you should be fine.
The tests get easier towards the end. Over the past few semesters, the students have shown improvement on the last 2 tests. I thought about dropping, but I ended up with an A. Just continue to work on the little grades (mindtap, webassign etc) Professor did not help with questions and was a poor lecturer. However its a flipped class so it was fine.
Dr. Ellenberger is one of the best freshman chem lecturers and takes time to work problems in class. She is also helpful in office hours. The tests and progress checks are still hard like in any chem class.
its gen chem at UGA so y'all already know its difficult. like chem 1 its gonna be the outside work you put in that makes your grade not the professor. she is the SWEETEST lady and has the voice of Phyllis from the office but I luv her. she talks to the class during lecture to make sure they understand and if not she will work the problem.
its gen chem at uga so yall already know its difficult. like chem 1 its gonna be the outside work you put in that makes the grade, not your professor. she is the SWEETEST lady and has the voice of Phyllis from the office but I luv her. she talks to the class during lecture to make sure everyone understands and if not she works the problem.
She makes the progress checks and the exams, so most of her clicker questions are similar to the ones you will see on those assessments. She will thoroughly explain clicker questions if the majority of students didn't get it right, but even if the majority did get it right she will still quickly setup the equations and quickly explain the process.
If you don't already know how to do the math for that week's class, don't bother wasting your time going. She doesn't teach you how to do anything, she just puts examples on the board and expects the class to know how to do it. The only thing you actually learn from is mind tap. I stopped going to class and just used mind tap and still got a B+
Ellenberger over Hubbard. Hubbard teaches way too much material in the book that is not tested on exams. Ellenberger gives lots of practice in class and sometimes drops hints on what exactly to know for the exam. Read the textbook, do all the practice problems, and good luck.
Organic Chemistry at UGA is difficult, however, Dr. Ellenberger makes it much more manageable. She has office hours every week, but will drop everything to help you whenever you need it. All lectures are very clear, and she gives tons of sample problems that are very similar to what you will see on the test. Overall, I would highly recommend.
Dr. Ellenberger is the only Chemistry professors that I've had that truly cares about her student's success. I've had her for Chem1212 and now for Chem2211 and she is awesome. Really accessible and willing to help in her office hours to make sure you understand the material. Organic Chem is hard, but Dr. Ellenberger will do everything to help you.
Chem will never be easy, but Ellenberger just was not good. In lecture, she gives clicker questions, and when the class does not know it or do well, she always asks "how do you not know this". She may not be the worst, but she is certainly not close to being the best.
The UGA Chem department has issues of its own but Ellenberger is a decent choice for Chem 1212. She makes the tests and most of the progress checks, so you'll have a good idea of what to study. Her clicker questions are great practice for the tests as well. Just make sure to study conceptual stuff for tests because her lectures are more math-heavy.
I think Dr. Ellenberger is the best choice for Chem 1212. The class is a lot of work no matter who you take, but Ellenberger makes the tests and Progress Checks, so her classes usually have the highest grades. She explains most things clearly and goes at a good pace doing problems in class. I would definitely recommend taking her for any Chem class
UGA o-chem is infamous, but Ellenberger is a great lecturer who tries to ensure that students are getting it. It's an absurdly fast-paced course but she's patient and helpful if you meet her outside of class, and posts practice worksheets for reviewing concepts (though I'd advise incoming students to still be wary, since the tests are harder).
Such a nice and caring professor. Her lectures explained concepts very well. She was also willing to give students the benefit of the doubt most of the time. One of the bests chemistry professors at Uga hands down.
Get ready to teach yourself. Ellenberger's teaching style and the way that she has the class structured makes it extremely hard to understand the material. She assigns you homework and graded quizzes due the week before she even goes over the material and then expects everyone to know how to do complex problems in class without even explaining it
Dr. Ellenberger is a cute little lady, but not the best teacher. She is not the best at explaining material and I've found this class to be much more difficult than Chem 1. The class is definitely manageable, but it's annoying that there isn't a single chemistry teacher at UGA that can help their students thoroughly understand material.
After a bad experience in CHEM1211 I was not looking forward to this class; however, I have loved Ellenberger so far. She is a sweet professor who cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She is also willing to go over confusing problems so that everyone understands. It is a tough class but that's CHEM at UGA. Be prepared to do the work.
Ellenberger is super sweet and funny. Although, her lectures can be a bit boring at times, and they are very heavy with clicker questions. However, those questions are very similar to her progress check and test questions. You're going to know what to expect, but you'll probably have to spend a lot of time on your own trying to understand concepts.
She made attending worth it if you paid attention due to explaining the clicker Q's. Worked them out and gave plenty of examples. After our first exam, my class had the lowest grades out of her other two, so she decided to take more time lecturing the material between clicker questions. Very helpful. Better than other prof's in CHEM department IMO.
CHEM 1212 is hard no matter the professor just because of the material, but her powerpoint that she does in class and posts online really helped. She's not too boring during lecture and she made the exams (I don't think she will be anymore though) so going to class really helped.
So Dr. Ellenberger is the worst professor I've ever had at UGA. Not only has she never responded to one of my emails to her, but she is also extremely rude and vindictive in class. Ellenberger also notified our chemistry class only 2 weeks before the final that the entire format of the final was going to be shifted.
Not the worst teacher I've ever had, but she is one of the worst at explaining questions nearly everyone in the classroom gets wrong. Easily gets frustrated when people talk while she is. She is not great at replying to emails. However, if you work for it, a good grade is possible.
This was my first semester at UGA after taking 1211 at another University, and I knew what I was getting into. This is one of the hardest classes at UGA, but if you put in the time and go into her office hours, you will pass the class. This is coming from a terrible test taker.
Chem 1212 is a hard class and no matter who you take, you're gonna have to study hard and learn a lot of material on your own. However, Ellenberger does a fairly good job of lecturing on a lot of the material in class. She also isn't the best at responding to emails, but when she does respond she makes it a priority to find a time to meet with you
The chemistry department at UGA sucks and that's just how its always going to be unfortunately. Don't set high expectations for any gen chem course regardless of the prof. Exams are hard, you teach yourself, and you basically have to sell your soul to the chem department in order to pass. As far as Ellenberger goes, she is meh. Nothing outstanding.
Ellenberger is cool because she often makes the tests. She occasionally has to miss class but she always tries to get Du to fill in for her because she is aware of our hatred of Blankenship. Chem at UGA sucks, but Dr Ellenberger is willing to work with you and help you through best she can. Not the best, but she is okay.
Ellenberger is a queen, CHEM at uga is a bad department but she makes the class much more bearable. She really uses clicker questions so get ready to participate in class. Do the reading, do the problems, and you'll get an A.
Ellenberger is definitely a solid choice for 1212. Many students say that 1212 is easier than 1211, but I personally struggled a lot more in 1212. Ellenberger isn't always the best at explaining clicker questions, but attending class and paying attention is definitely worth it. Overall nice prof and would take again.
DO NOT TAKE!!!!!! Worst chemistry teacher ever. Does not care about her students and skips over people's questions in class. Does not help you prepare for tests and her tests scores always come out the lowest. 10/10 do not recommend even if your only other option is a rock.
Let me begin by saying the people on here that give her a good rating are undoubtedly those people who ask questions they already know the answer to. Not that she would answer them. Every bad thing people say about her is true. But, regardless of who you get it gonna have to teach yourself. Buy science guys and do practice problems. Youll be ok.
Wow. I am just in awe at how many lies she told straight to our faces over the course of just half a semester. Youll get a curve, test is super easy, and just like the hw were all things that we were told but never really panned out in reality. If you take her beware of many broken promises.
1212 is easier than 1211. It helps that Dr. Ellenberger actually teaches. She is good at explaining the topics and will answer any questions. She writes most of the tests so that helps. Make sure to do all of the homework and go to her office hours because I didn't do that and my grade was worse than 1211 even though the class felt easier.
Any chemistry class you take at UGA is going to be difficult. Ellenberger has a very funny personality and I think she is a good professor also. She gives us a bunch of clicker questions to do in class which helps for the tests. She is the one who makes most of the tests so having her as the professor helped my grade A LOT. I highly recommend.
We were definitely not her priority, that was obvious enough. She often led us to believe that tests would be easier than they actually were and did not follow through on many of the things that she said would be done. Her teaching style is mostly clickers and example problems. She did help us out with a curve though which was much appreciated.
She lied about curving several tests and some questions were very unclear and confusing. Go to office hours and she can be helpful.
We were told there would be a curve on our final, but there wasn't. She only helps during office hours. She doesn't reply to emails, so you have to talk to her after class or in person. She writes the tests, which is helpful. She can be condescending, but she wants her students to do well. You have to teach yourself regardless of the prof you get.
I've taken CHEM 1211-2211 at UGA and it's the hardest thing I've ever done. DON'T let these other reviews of "study and you'll be fine" fool you, I attended tutoring a MINIMUM of 3 days a week, went over progress checks with tutors, I did everything possible to pass these classes. I had to retake these classes elsewhere & got A's. DON'T take at UGA
She filled in for our teacher during the semester. She told us she would change the syllabus, but never specified how. She criticized us for not knowing certain things (that we had not yet been taught). She put things on the test that she specifically told us she would not. Her tests were so hard and hard to study for. Do not recommend.
Very nice lady however not the best lecturer. Doesn't explain concepts well and is not quick to post her slides. I got an A in CHEM 1211-1212 but a D in this class.
Ellenberger is really funny and sarcastic however the idea of a flipped classroom in her class is really tough. I ended up dropping the class because we basically weren't taught anything . She ignored when people raised their hands too. She also told us "I expect better" when we would miss answers to her clicker questions..
Ellenberger was an alright professor. When we do the clicker questions, it seems as if she never goes over it. The exams were relatively related to her lecture slides. Chemistry is hard in general, you will have to teach yourself. Although the class is hard, getting a good grade is doable.
There is no great choice for Gen chem at UGA but Ellenberger was honestly okay. She doesnt want you to fail, her tests are gradually easier and if you work hard you can get a fine grade. She can be a little mean but that leaves plenty of bonus points for people who dont skip class. Go to problem solving workshops!
If you can, buy the ScienceGuyz semester package! Ellenberger's class is all clicker questions so be prepared to know the conceptual stuff before class because she'll pass through it quickly. Kind of petty, so don't leave class early and aim for perfect attendance because she does offer extra clicker question points sometimes
She is the best option for gen chem here at Georgia. Her office hours are extremely helpful to go to and I recommend that the most. While she can be condescending and a little petty, she wants the best for everyone and will help you especially if you show up to office hours often. Read the textbook before class, helps a ton.
She is a great teacher and very kind!
She is the most caring chem professor I've encountered. I liked her lectures better than 1212 with West--she moves fast but explains it way better. Very VERY homework heavy and lots of studying--don't take more than 15h or you'll wanna die. My only criticism is that she is kicking our butts with online class. There is twice as much work!!
She's easy to follow in lectures and practice problems, just make sure you read the book so you can understand what's happening. Also remember reading and progress checks; they can be a decent grade booster at the end of the semester.
the UGA chem department is awful but ellenberger is the lesser of the evils. her lectures are helpful but most of your learning is still done outside of the classroom. The textbook can help explain some concepts. there are many assignments due throughout the week and clicker questions each class. keep up with assignments.
UGA chem is going to be awful no matter which prof or class you take, but Ellenberger is definitely the best you can get. She probably does the most actual teaching and posts all of her annotated slides which is super helpful. She was especially a gem when we moved to online class for covid-19 because she gave lots of helpful worksheets and ppts!
I really enjoyed chemistry with Ellenberger. After coming out of Chem1211 I was nervous about another semester of chemistry with potentially harder topics. This was not the case. Ellenberger is a great lecturer and I found her powerpoints very useful when studying. During class she is usually happy and knows what topics we find confusing.
Dr. Ellenberger is a really solid choice for CHEM1212. Her lectures move at a very reasonable speed. She writes most of the exams. All her annotated lectures are online and there are worked out sample problems. TurningPoints actually help for exams. She's empathetic of students' problems.
Nothing really special about her. The only reason I came to class was for the clicker questions. Sometimes she got really petty and gave out freebie clicker questions when people left class a minute early. It was sad to watch. The tests were alright. Make sure to read the textbook and the lecture notes before the test.
Ellenberger is a great choice for chem. Her lectures are well presented and the information taught in them pretty much line up with everything on the exams. Compared to 1211, this class is so much better and is not as much work, but you still have to put in the work to receive a good grade.
I sat in the front and made an effort and did well. She is funny and appreciates students making an effort. She cares a lot for her students and wants to see them succeed. She remembers you out of the classroom and is super willing to help in any way shape or form. 100% shes awesome if you are willing to do what is expected of you.
I took her over the summer she does not sound like she wants to teach Chemistry and shes really sassy if you email her but overall the class itself isn't easy but as long as you study you will pass.
Disclaimer: I took this course during the summer (at home((COVID). Dr. Ellenberger is quite petty when it comes to answering emails, and she often left you with more questions than answers. Her lectures were easy to digest but the test questions were much harder. It takes a lot of effort to get a good grade, but it is achievable.
Chem will always be hard and honestly, having a good professor only helps with part of the grade (like a better exam?). You have to study on your own for these weed out classes and thats the only way to succeed. I thought she was a solid gen chem teacher and probably better than the other already bad professors.
The chem dept at UGA has issues, but Dr. Ellenberger will be your best option for gen chem. There are lecture and recitation worksheets as well as pearson modules every week, and 5 exams. Her lectures are okay, but if you are confused on anything she is pretty helpful. She is disorganized but not too bad overall. Better than Blankenship.
She was not very good at putting in grades. 2 weeks until the end of the semester and I have no idea what I am sitting at. Does not respond to email very well and I do her online course and there is NO teaching from her.
I had Dr. Ellenberger during COVID. Those who had a difficult time probably didn't put in enough effort. She really only cares about you as much as you care about your grade, and that's good. Most of my understanding came from problem-solving office hours where she walked us through homework and gave us answers. If you care, then she helps you.
Eh... this class was about what I expected. She is a fine instructor and has really helpful OH. Weekly worksheets and progress checks (took during COVID). Better than 1211 w/ Blankenship. Tests are very conceptual so if you struggle with chemistry I def suggest outside sources (like ScienceGuyz) to prepare.
Taken during COVID-19. This was dreadful class. I've gotten 4.0s in both 1210 and 1211, I will be getting a 3.0. There was no way to win. I spent 30 hours a week on this course, went to all office hours, and did all extra credit. Questions on the exam didn't match our learning or practice problems. There was a lot of effort and no way to win, imo.
Wow. This class was tough. Chemistry at UGA terrible no matter who you take, but Ellenberger makes it (somewhat) okay. The tests are super hard and you have so many worksheets its gets ridiculous. Had a couple mental breakdowns because of how much work you have to put in to get the grade you want, and I didnt even get the grade I want.
The chemistry department sucks at UGA no matter who you have. Her lectures dumbed down the material and then the test was 10x harder than anything else we had practiced. She would post PC and RC extremely late and still expect them due by the date on the syllabus. We had worksheets due on top of weekly recitation sessions that were mandatory.
Super sweet lady, hard tests but she prepares you well. Made an A and studied 2-3 hours a day
She was very helpful. Make sure to attend virtual problem solving sessions for help on worksheets. These sessions were like office hours. She made sure to explain any questions we had. There was a lot of work, but it only helped you to know what was going on. These worksheets helped to work on problems based on the lectures.
This class was very difficult, and I truly feel I put in an above-reasonable amount of work into this class. She is nice and knowledgeable, and her problem solving hours are great! But, the class is difficult. The worksheets and assignments felt very different for the test, and I always felt lost and unprepared during tests.
UGA chem is horrible. Although Ellenberger is super sweet, the class was ridiculous. I always felt behind because there were so many assignments. She did not prepare anyone well for any of the exams. I did not make better than a C on an exam all semester but I made As on all of the quizzes. The material is misleading and they want students to fail.
Professor Ellenberger seemed very disconnected from her class and the PLAs. She would assign work but when people asked questions, she would claim that she did review the assignment before giving it to us. After, she said she would give credit back for questions but then forgot. She also NEVER answered emails so don't expect her to be of much help.
I'm on track to making an A and I still hated this class. It's frustrating because you can know every concept on the worksheets and other assessments and STILL not be prepared for their exams. It is also annoying that the Science Guyz practice exams were more useful than the ones she put out. Take the worksheets seriously and study everyday.
She seems extremely disconnected from the course. Also, not sure how well she knows the material- if I ever asked her a question, she'd look at me with this blank stare before giving me a wrong answer. Besides her teaching, she was honestly just rude to me for no reason when I would ask for help. Wouldn't recommend.
The chem department at UGA makes all chem classes very difficult. Ellenberger seemed nice but just always kind of seemed like she didn't really care during recitations but she did answer emails quickly. The tests were really difficult and there were a lot of worksheets and busy work.
Out of every teacher and professor I have ever had, Dr. Ellenberger was by far the worst at communicating. When I brought an issue to her by email, she led me in circles and never helped me with my question (and took days between each response). She did not seem at all interested in my concerns which makes for a horrible professor.
I LOVE Ellenberger! All chem professors are going to be hard, but if you have the option take Ellenberger!
Ellenberger is one of the best professors in the chem dept. She is very helpful & her office hours help a lot if you have any questions to clear up. I definitely recommend going to lectures, you won't pass if you don't. It is chem so you definitely have to study a lot but her review material is good and she will answer any questions you have.
Suzanne is a fantastic teacher. Her lectures are super clear and make the material seem easier than it is. She writes the tests, so her lectures are better focused than others'. She's also really sweet and makes the class feel inviting. The content challenges a lot of people but I think she's probably the best choice.
I've had Dr. Ellenberger for 2 semesters, and I wish she would teach ochem. So funny. Ngl you have to do lots of practice problems, but they def help on test. Attendance isn't TECHNICALLY mandatory but there are attendance points. Still recommend scienceguyz or something cause chem is hard but I think she is best choice for chem 1211 or 1212
Chemistry may be the most unreasonably difficult department at UGA. They really want to weed out anyone/everyone who's iffy about going into med school with this class. My pet peeve of what she would do is how she'd say we need to know something on a slide and then skip it altogether or give us 5 seconds. Be prepared for really hard progress checks
Chem is no joke and you really have to work for your grade. However, Dr. Ellenberger is the best option for this class. She knows what she is talking about and uses lots of clicker questions in class for practice. She's really funny and overall cares about her students. Despite the difficulty of this class, she made chem more enjoyable.
Dr. Ellenberger writes the tests for 1212 & therefore teaches exactly what's on it, so she's a solid choice for this class. She always asks for feedback after the test to see how we felt about it and overall really cares about the students. Chemistry at UGA is a pain regardless but I really enjoyed having her as a professor.
Dr. E is my favorite professor. I've had her for 1211 and 1212 and I wish I could take her to Ochem with me. Chemistry at UGA sucks but she really tries to help you understand. She's super sweet and listens to students' concerns. Go to office hours, especially before exams. I haven't had other chem profs, but I'd say she's the best option!
Absolutely loved her course. The course material is quite difficult, but her explanations of concepts are very clear and she is very very approachable with any questions. She would be patient with you with questions, and her PLAs are very helpful (USE DISCORD!). She is really humorous and likeable, if it matters a lot to you (it does to me).
Dr. Ellenberger was pretty great. She taught us for the second half of the semester, and she was always caring and reasonable, open to feedback. The class is of course hard, what chem class isn't? But Dr. Ellenberger is very fair and understanding, putting out grades quickly and helping you learn wherever she can.
Dr. Ellenberger taught half of the semester and her half was amazing. You can tell she clearly cares about her students and she is very easily accessible. She gives plenty of practice problems to help you prepare for the tests. While the tests and subject matter are hard, that is because it is chemistry and it will be hard with any teacher.
Super caring. Taught 1/2 the semester, and I failed both of her exams. However, she offers lots of office hours and is super organized. She does her best to help you succeed. Only dislike is that the final that she + Salguero made was NOTHING like the practices put up. Gen chem absolutely sucks, so if you're bad at it, you're bad at it (aka me)
Dr. Ellenberger taught the second 1/2 of the semester and was great. She was super organized, accessible for office hours, and genuinely wanted us to be successful. She offered ample study materials for exams and graded assignments quickly. General Chemistry is hard by nature, but Dr. Ellenberger made it more bearable.
Mrs. Ellenberger may be the worst professor I have ever had. Her tests do not match what is taught in class and she rarely explains anything. She uses class questions and moves on very quickly without explaining her reasoning or where she is gathering information from. I do not recommend.
Had her class in the summer. She has a great sense of humor, very extensive knowledge of chemistry, and is very understanding of the difficulty of learning the subject. She offered extra credit and was lenient on grading assignments throughout the class. The only gripes were she is not very tech savvy and was slow to put in grades.
Dr. Ellenberger is super sweet. She really tries to make sure her students understand the content of her lectures, and she gives a bunch of practice worksheets to her students so they can practice before the test. She goes off script from her powerpoints a lot to include extra helpful information, so make sure you're actually listening to her.
I had her over the summer and she was amazing! Always stayed 2 hours after class and did extra questions anyone had. Tests are hard but go to office hours because she will make sure you get the concept down! Never got annoyed with questions and is absolutely hilarious. She is also extremely encouraging and caring
Take her for chem1212 or anything, best chem professor at UGA
Literally the sweetest human alive. She was so funny and engaging during the lectures. She's also willing to help her students with absolutely anything, even non-school related stuff. She is so knowledgable too and does her best to help students understand the content. UGA chem is going to suck no matter what, but dr. e helped so much
Dr. E is probably your best bet for CHEM1212. She's caring and definitely knows what she's talking about, as well as always willing to meet to talk about the material. The chem department at UGA isn't great, but she makes it much more bearable and I'd take her class again.
Overall a great teacher. As head of the Chemistry department she had the power to change policies to help her students out.
dr. ellenberger was very nice and helpful. she is very pleasant and easy to talk to. she makes the tests and is always willing to help during office hours. she is funny and makes chemistry enjoyable.
Dr. Ellenberger is the best chemistry prof I've had at UGA. She's the department head for gen chem, so she writes all the exams, which is super super helpful. She's very helpful if you go to her office hours and ask questions, and genuinely wants you to succeed! Definitely take her for any chem class!
Dr. Ellenberger was a very good professor. She explains the information very clearly and makes sure all her students understand the content. She is sometimes slow in lectures, but that is okay since she makes the tests herself for the CHEM1312H and CHEM1212 tests. Take her! You won't regret it!
I do not understand how anyone says she's the best option for this class... she's not a good instructor at all. She just does square cap questions all class, no actual instruction. She is always behind so we have stuff on recitation that we have not gone over yet. ScinceGuys was the only reason I learned anything in this class. Take someone else.
She literally doesn't teach at all and only uses clicjer questions. Yesterday she was an hour late and expected you to stay for one clickr question. Makes all the tests, recitations, and progress checks harder on purpose when her students finally are understanding the material.
I loved Dr. Ellenberger. She was amazing to take over the summer, and I would definitely recommend her over any other chem 1212 professor at UGA. Exams were hard but the material on exams reflected what was covered in class.
This prof was an hour late to one of my lecture classes and proceeded to do a clicker question for attendance even though the vast majority of the class had already left. She only does clicker questions during class and doesn't give enough time for them. She makes all of the exams and she includes stuff that we learned the class before the exam.
Personally, I think she was rude and had a bad attitude. However, as a teacher she is the best option for 1212. She is head of department and makes the tests. All of the classes were way behind but she was the least behind. Fairly good at explaining concepts. Very assignment heavy class and uses clicker questions. Better of chem teachers.
Dr. Ellenberger was one of the best professors I've had so far at UGA. A lot of people complain about how many clicker questions she does but I felt like actually doing practice problems made me learn the material better than just looking at slides.
Best teacher for the class because her class always gets the best average (she makes the tests.) Not a good person though - unsympathetic, totally not responsive to any emails, and rude. But she makes the tests so... good luck with that.
Dr. Ellenberger is sweet, but she is not the best professor. She focuses mostly on practice questions and does not end up finishing the lectures. We had to go through 3 units in one week, which was insane. She does not respond to emails at all, and if you go to her office hours, she will only answer her favorite students' questions.
Dr. Ellenberger for chem 1212 was the best choice, she makes all of the exams, which is the only reason you should think about taking her. She moves through material extremely slowly, we had to cover three units in a week to be ready for the ACS. She will NOT be available over email despite what she says, and the CLA's were not useful.
Pretty chill. She often says stuff that are not on the lecture slides so be sure to listen. LOTS of practice problems, which are good for helping understanding concepts. Although, the last 2 weeks of class were very rushed. Chem 2 is gonna be difficult regardless, but her classes' test averages are always higher than with other professors.
UGA chem department is not as bad as everyone says it is. I barely went to class and got an A-. If you're not strong in STEM, take Ellenberger, her averages are always the highest. She's not a sympathetic person so don't ask her for help. That might just come with years of hearing a million excuses though. She's not evil just has harsh boundaries
Dr. Ellenberger was hilarious, and although she taught slow-paced, she's the one who writes the tests so she sometimes gives you general information about a certain problem on the test. She is also very attentive, I would recommend going to her office hours, she is very helpful one on one.
Her lectures were structured in the most absurd way making it extremely confusing to grasp the material. She would present the conceptual idea of the concept and then would give you a math problem usually with no example, which was then graded on participation and correctness.
The only advantage to taking Ellenberger is that she gives lots of hints to test questions in lecture. Did not find her to be a useful instructor at all, I had my friend send me Rathnaweera's notes because they were better than hers. Sci Guyz is helpful, the CLAs less so. Go to instructor office hours and go to tutoring early!
For the highest grade in CHEM 1212, take Ellenberger. She has the highest test averages by a decent margin every time, she told us a few questions the day of the test in class, and she is the head of the department for now. It may not be fun, but she is the best option. Plus she rounded me from an 89.84 to a 90 so props to her.
Chem 1212 is a difficult class but Dr. Ellenberger did an excellent job at covering material at a good pace and ensuring the class understood. I felt well prepped for tests. Office hours were also very helpful. Annotated lectures posted but there are class participation graded questions
She is the director of the chemistry department. She was disrespectful and sarcastic to me.
Ellenberger's CHEM1212 is a tough class, but worth taking if you want the best shot at a high grade. Her lectures can be slow, but she gives helpful hints for the exams. Unstuck ai was a game-changer for my study prep.
She is just so rude, and barely responds to emails. Had to deal with her last semester, and absolutely hated it.
Dr. Ellenberger is such a sweet professor. She does her best to make sure students understand the material and does lots of practice problems in class. She gives tips and tricks on how to approach the test and certain problems. She is a teeny bit slow with lecture so make sure to keep up outside of class. I would HIGHLY recommend to take her!
Ellenberger was a very sweet person. My only complaint is she might go a bit slow compared to the other chem classes. It is a chem class so ofc there is a lot of work but she tried to make it as easy as possible for her students.
Her lectures are great. There is a good balance between her actually talking and her giving practice problems. She is also very approachable, and her office hours help a lot.
