I took the online course for this class and wasn't sure at first how it was going to be. It's actually very easy, just make sure you participate in the discussion boards, and that you do all the play reviews. Fagan is nice, and helpful. There are quizzes every week, but they aren't too hard. Good teacher.
I took this class online. Had a good experience with this teacher until I very nicely asked her why it was MANDATORY that we saw both shows at MOORPARK COLLEGE and no where else. She responded back saying that theater critiques are mandatory and If I had a problem with it, I shouldnt have signed up for the course. Thats not what I even asked.
Not very hard but lots of busy work. Weekly chapter quizzes, read 3 plays, write 2 play critique, & discussion groups. She has a distrusting view of her students & her instructions are very vague. She wants 2 play critiques but gives no examples of the format and then criticizes you for a format that she doesn't like. 2 thumbs down here.
I took Suzanne's Improv class and was having trouble not getting annoyed with her after the second meeting. I'm sure that if she were on stage with a group of other Groundlings, she could probably hold her own...barely. However, I do not feel she can adequately teach the subject. She imposes too many restrictions and her direction is useless.
Great class. She is very helpful.Follow instructions and you will do well. Learned alot!
I took the online class which was fine, as you just read the chapters and took the tests online. There was a midterm which was not too difficult. Also, you must see two plays on campus and write reviews on them. Teacher was very clear about everything. Just follow the syllabus closely and you'll get an A.
Suzanne is a rather stubborn old shrew. She believes she makes things clear in her sylabi but really doesn't. She is unwilling to offer any help or suggestions to her students other than reading her syllabus or dropping the class. Avoid any class with her.
Took the 9 week online class, and had a very negative experience, no help given with tests or the quiz taken for every chapter. Lots of very time consuming work. Trick questions on quizes.
I agree with the last 2, don't take her, you'll wreck your GPA
She is the nicest, most encouraging teacher. As long as you give your all and COMMIT she will teach you. You have to remember it is a beginning class and there will be rules; just follow them. They are training wheels. The class was so much fun and I learned a lot.
Shes kind of mean. I am an A student& she talked down to me alot via email making me feel dumb. The class wasn't difficult, follow her CLEAR sylibus& you will do fine! She isnt the most helpful or happy prof but its all online so as long as you do all your work you will pass! Dont try emailing to much, she seems to get annoyed. Overall-not to hard.
Don't take her online class. She is not clear & won't hear you out when you try to explain that she did not specify something in her syllabus. My only B @ Moorpark was from her. Grr.
I took the online class and its fairly easy. Just read the book, show up to the plays and you'll do fine, but the teacher herself is awful. She makes snide little comments to you when ever you attempt to contact her, and she has a sarcastic comment for everything. If you can put up with blatant rudeness this class will be an easy grade.
I took this class online and as long as you do all of the the "MANDATORY" assignments (which is pretty much everything) you will do fine. The teacher sends a lot of reminder emails which can be helpful or annoying depending on how you look at it. Do the work and you can get an easy A - she's a little overbearing but grades fairly.
A lot of complaints seem to be aimed at her online courses. Took a sit-in class with her. Great teacher, knows how to bond with and teach her students. If you think her antics are bad, it's only to help loosen you up to better help you act and I've seen her professional side too. She's very serious about teaching and she is a great teacher.
She was an amazing teacher very supportive and always got the best from her students really got the whole class engaged.
Amazing teacher very attentive really wants everyone to succeed. Always available for questions
OK theatre online was pretty much the easiest A i have ever gotten. Follow everything she says for critiques and yoll get the A...All the answers for her online tests are online...
Easy online course. Questions are from the book or found online. Requires seeing a number of local plays and writing critiques. Easy A if you need the credits.
Really easy class. Just follow the syllabus and you'll be okay. You see three plays and write a critique about each. Quiz answers are found by typing the question in Google, or looking for topic in the back of the book. Really straight forward for anyone. Follow word counts in discussions and actually attend the plays.
Love this professor! She is very helpful and clear at what she wants. There are weekly quizzes which are super easy and every answer is found online.. literally. Must see three plays and critique them. Easy A and great if you need the credits or want to raise your GPA. Highly recommend.
I took this class online. Easy to take online. I can imagine it being difficult in a classroom setting. Must follow due dates or will fail the class. She takes forever to grade papers. And she was the last instructor to turn in my final grade. She is also a bit disorganized. But again, online you will be fine. Offers extra credit.
If you like feedback from your teacher do not take her. Almost every time I would email her it would take forever to get a response back. And when her response was, "Let me check on that and I'll get back to you" she didn't. She has no office hours so it's really hard to get in touch with her.
She is great acting teacher. I am so impressed with here teaching style, and really like her feedback. It is a theatre class, so she expected you to participate. She really boosts your confidence, and if you are willing to work, she will help you become great. You will need to get scripts.
Suzanne is great! Very talented, fun & insightful mentor. She cares and will teach you as long as you are willing to learn. If you show up late with an attitude and only want to hang out, talk during class and text, your wasting your time, hers and the other students. She knows her stuff and really should be out there performing herself.
Suzanne is one of my favorite professors! She's passionate and driven and teaches through past experiences. She's so fun and always full of excitement! She's hilarious. If you didn't enjoy her class it's probably because you have a terrible sense of humor. I highly recommend taking any of her classes.
Suzanne was a great teacher. Very passionate about her craft. Follow the syllabus. She sends reminders when things are due and encourages students to try out for productions. Email reminders are a little long winded but helpful. You have to see to productions sponsored by the college and can see another one for extra credit. Lots of reading.
Suzanne has hands down been my favorite professor at Moorpark. She's passionate about her work and really cares about her students. She's wacky but at the same time will make you laugh. When working on a character, she really helps you bring out the emotion that you need to enhance your performance. Definitely taking another class from her!
Took her four week summer class. Maybe she is better during the regular semester but for an elective art class, I wouldn't recommend. Lots of work and tons of quizzes. Hard class but ended up with an A.
Discussion board assignments are due frequently so you must participate. There are easy quizzes due every other week or so. She drops your lowest score which is nice. It is required to attend two plays and write detailed critiques that are 3-5 pages long each. You can see a third play for extra credit. Stay on top of due dates & you'll do fine.
Suz is my favorite professor here at Moorpark College. She is hands down the funniest and most caring prof you will meet in the PAC at moorpark College. Super LGBTQ friendly and her door is always open when she's in her office. Take her for any of her theatre classes but Theatre for Young Audiences is her best! She's a role model and great mentor.
Took her online 8 week Theatre M01 class, i emailed her a few times her responses were quick, she was super helpful! Two discussions per week + quiz ; all super easy. I was nervous taking this class because it seamed like a lot plus the reviews on here weren't too good, but she really got me into threatre. I would definitely recommend!
Suzanne is a great teacher! She always responds to emails and cares a lot about her students. She's one of my favorite teachers at Moorpark. You've definitely gotta be a theatre person to fully appreciate her, but her online class is very easy either way.
I've taken Suzanne for multiple classes, but TYA was probably one of my favorites. Very fun class, very few things you're graded on. Just show up and go to the performances. Cancels classes if there are weekend performances. Truly an iconic class (If you take it in the future, just know you'll never be as good as the OG TYA)
This prof gives some really fun shows to watch and evaluate. Stay on top of your discussions, do the reading, and you will pass. The quizzes reflect the info in the chapter so pay close attention and have the book handy during your quizzes. Final incorporates some questions from the quizzes and some new ones. Great class, take if you need THA1!
Great teacher also had her when I was in Night of the Living Dead witch was a fun production to put on.
Took this course over the summer. Very easy since it was online. Two discussions, along with many 25 question quizzes that answers could easily be found online. The bad part about this class is the Play Critique where your grade will just plummet down. She grades the critiques so harsh that she makes you feel like an imbecile afterwards.
My favorite teacher at Moorpark. I look forward to this class every week! She makes everyone feel so comfortable and truly be themselves. She's good at critiquing w the actors for them to improve, and constantly wants people to be involved! Makes everything memorable and she treats everyone with respect. I cannot express how much I loved the class.
I already miss this class. She is such a funny person and actually made me enjoy coming at 8:30 in the morning. Very worth it.
By far my favorite teacher!! She is super hilarious and makes the material accessible to students. Participation does matter. Certain skits or activities are done at least once a week. Just have fun, this was honestly a place I would relax, learn and more important have a great time!!
Took her online theatre class; it was a breeze. Quizzes/final were a joke, all answers could be found online. Discussions did require some reading or synopsis research at the least, but were fairly simple. Only negative are the play critiques, which you physically have to show up for. Midterm was moderate and required effort. Fairly strict grader.
Suzanne is one of my favorite professors I have ever had the pleasure of taking. In addition to being extremely charismatic, attractive, and personable, Suzanne truly cares about her students' success. She goes above and beyond to ensure that her students are given endless opportunities and will push them to success. 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Suzanne is my favorite instructor in the PAC. She is someone I really look up to and feel inspired by everyday. She is hilarious, excitable, CREATIVELY BRILLIANT, energetic, and she pushes everyone to step out of their comfort zone in the best ways. I highly recommend any class with her if you're interested in theater or self exploration.
The most caring professor I've ever had. She can give a little tough love, but she truly believes in the potential of every student she meets and will work as hard as she can to let your potential shine. Bonus points for a highly contagious laugh!
Suzanne is one of the best College professors Ive ever had! She made me want to learn more about theatre and to continue pursuing it! She is the most caring person and I feel like I can talk to her about anything even if its unrelated to theatre! I would highly encourage everyone to take one of her classes, shes amazing!!!
She loves theater! Be positive about the class and respond to all the prompts and anything that she comments on. Be prepared to back up your reasons, she sometimes asks you to. No book needed. One paper needed quotes from the text, but the school library had a copy. Everything else can be found online.
I loved her class, Suzanne is a great director as well as a teacher, so she gives good feedback on your scenes.
She's an easy grader and a pleasure to be around. She makes sure the class has a positive atmosphere which makes it easy to perform. She gives great feedback, and she's incredibly funny.
Suzanne's intro to TV and Film class was a lot of fun. It did make me uncomfortable at times to be in front of the camera (I'm more theatre) but she pushed us out of our comfort zones in a good way. She likes to tell personal stories and makes lasting connections with students. Definitely would recommend this class to any aspiring TV actors.
My queen. Suzanne is amazing. Super weird and helpful and kind. Just take her - you won't regret it.
Any classes that Suzanne teaches is a rewarding experience whether you are pursuing the craft or not. She will give you great feedback after your performances and work on each individual to reach your goals in class. One of the best instructors at MC. Just side note be prepared to know your lines and do the character work it will benefit all scenes
Suzanne is incredible! She truly cares about her students and the power of theater. She creates a very welcome and safe environment for her class. As a director, Suzanne is an absolute pleasure to work with. She's crazy yes, but I mean that in the best way possible! She allows you do find the character and gives you amazing opportunities. 10/10!
Suzanne is such an amazing professor. She cares so much for the students and their well being in the class. She is always willing to explain and always willing to help her students whenever. Classes are always fun. Her grading is fair. She is always prepared and knows the material very well, and she is clear on her directions.
8 week online class. She seems like a nice person but if you are not a theatre person I would not take this class. For this class to be easy you should probably have an interest in the plays that you have to watch and read. She is very picky about the discussion posts. 6 discussions, about 10 short quizzes, 9 chapter quizzes, and a 4-5 page essay.
The honors class has 6 modules, 13 easy video quizzes, 9 textbk chapter exams, 6 discussions (work hard for it), a midterm play critique, a final exam multiple-choice, and loads of extra credit. Ask questions, she is super responsive and accommodative! She truly cares about her students and loves her profession! Easiest and best class ever!!
I loved her class! It was online and it was easy! Her grading is very clear and she is super nice! We do a few discussion posts about the plays we watched online and I enjoyed all of them! I would highly recommend taking her again! Easy A as long as you do the work and do it on time! We also viewed crash course videos and those were easy and fun!
Suzanne is mega nice and honestly a sweetie. I auditioned for a Moorpark play for the first time and she put a lot of faith in me. I havent had her for a regular course, but working with her was great. Shes super funny and pushes you to be the best you can. Without her, I wouldnt have made some great friends! :)
Great teacher and easy honors class. Took the 8 weeks course and the class still was easy and very manageable. She's so enthusiastic and energetic! Honors students had to do extra assignments, but they were doable. Also, honors students work towards writing and performing their own play!
Great teacher. Took the 8/9 week online course and got most of the work done within a few a weeks. Clear about what she wants and responds quickly being clear in her responses. Extra credit is easy to get. Unless you forget to do an assignment, you have to try to not get an A in this class. Don't need a textbook.
Clearly loves her students and theater; super sweet & did weekly checkup videos (which is nice in an async class). Quizzes were basically hunting for the answer, but open book. Also, essays are really important; I made a mistake on a critique, couldn't resubmit on Canvas, and it tanked my grade by 3% (so double check the rubric)! Loved this class.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE SUZANNE. I am a first year Moorpark student and out of all my teachers, she has been the most welcoming. She makes theater what it is: fun!! You can tell she loves the art and her students. I LOVE SUZANNE!
One of my favorite professors that I have had the privilege to work with. I truly felt creatively respected in rehearsals with Suzanne. I would highly recommend if youre looking for outstanding/quality directing, while still keeping the enjoyment of theater alive.
If you want to learn the most valuable aspects of acting and stepping out of your comfort zone from an expert of the craft, Suzanne is your professor! She will work with you and if you work with her too, I guarantee you will get the absolute most out of this class. Suzanne provides an unforgettable teaching experience and you will be left inspired!
I took this class to fill my gen. ed and it was super hard and too much work I think. I took the honors class and I had to write two 5 page papers at the end of the semester. I thought the about of work was unnecessary especially because I do not love theater.
She is one of my favorite professors that I had. This is a great course that is really well organized, so stay on top of due dates and you will be fine. It is a very reasonable amount of work. I really loved learning from her and would recommend this course to everyone!
Suzanne is far and away the best professor I have ever had. She has become a mentor to me and I look to her for inspiration or during times of difficulty. Shes always respectful of the students vision and adds insightful comments or critiques to improve the experience overall. Thank you for everything you have done Suzanne. RScot
Suzanne is the best acting teacher at this college. She is fun and brightens up the day with her comedy. She believes in all of her students talent abilities and will let you know what you need to work on. She is truly remarkable and a great professor. I would take her for all my courses if she taught them. Always audition when she is directing!!
Suzanne does a wonderful job in all of her acting classes to challenge her students to become the best they can be. She truly cares about her students and she makes class time always so fun. She listens to her students and is a wonderful ally. I have taken so many of her classes and have always loved being in them.
She gives so much to her students and I learned so much from her. No assignment she gives feels like busy work and all of it was super helpful and engaging especially if you want to become an actor some day or just like the theoretical part of it too. She is very receptive to everything and is incredibly motherly to all of her students.
I have been at Moorpark for 4 semesters and I have taken at least one class with Suzanne each of those. She is a great professor who has a lot of knowledge about the acting industry and truly cares about her students. Any assignments given have a clear rubric and a purpose. I always suggest a class with her because you learn a lot and have fun.
I loved her class and will be taking more in the future. She's encouraging and gives great feedback. She loathes tardiness and flakes.
Very clear on what she wants, offers many EC opportunities, but do put effort into essays as she is a stickler for those and expects clear writing and proper grammer.
Even though there are many assignments to do each week, they are all simple. There are 2 essays, which you can get extra credit for if you use the writing center. Quizzes each week based on the weekly reading that can be difficult but there are many other assignments to bring up your grade. She replies to emails super quick and has clear rubrics.
okay first of all. SUZANNE is the BEST. she is such a genuine person and an awesome professor. She really cares about her students, even the ones who are difficult to deal with. she tries to give everyone a chance to get a good grade in her class. really shows how much she wants all her students to succeed.
She responds very quick to emails and has Crash Course videos to teach how theatre works in general. For Honors, there are more assignments which includes script analyses but very very easy and manageable. She sets the grading criteria in a way that is understandable and so long as you follow the requirements, you will easily get an A
Suzanne is one of the biggest reasons that the Theatre department shines as it does. Around half of the classes I took in THA was with her, and I always looked forward to them. She's fantastic at encouraging young artists to grow while keeping real and grounded. A fantastic director who knows how to keep everyone in the cast on the same level.
She will turn on you in an instant. She requires you see a student performance at the college and wouldn't work w/ me when I tried to explain that the times of the performances conflicted with my work schedule. Her email about this was shockingly rude. Also, it seems like the modules she created in Canvas are confusing and not in a distinct order.
Professor Fagan is one of the most caring and considerate professors I've ever had in my life. She makes each class an incredibly fun environment and pushes you to step out your comfort zone in the best ways.
Suzanne is the most funniest ,caring, sweetest professor I've ever had. I have never had a professor that took the time to get to know their students like she does. I didn't have any theater experience before taking Suzanne's class and she made me feel confident in my performances every time .Would definitely take her class again.100/10
Suzanne Fagan is the best professor at Moorpark College. I've never met an educator who cares so deeply about her students and their experiences in her classes. Suzanne creates such an open and creative environment, and though she may be tough at times, there is no denying that her teaching methods work and that she wants her students to succeed.
I have had the pleasure of having Suzanne Fagan as my professor not just for my first college acting class (Acting 1) but also for my Introduction to Theater class as well, and it goes without saying that she is a fantastic educator! She is passionate about the craft of acting and cares deeply for her students and their goals towards acting!
Suzanne is absolutely amazing. She has a wonderful perspective on the individual talents of ALL students and creates such a wonderful environment to be working together as a team. She has always taken time to make sure me and other students feel respected and welcomed. Productions with her are the most fun I've had in tech and extremely productive!
Everyone is given the opportunity to get an "A" in this course. Coming to class on time is mandatory, completing your homework on time is not. There were many chances for extra credit during the semester. She will give you opportunities to learn from and meet influential people in the industry. Navigating your assignments in Canvas is easy.
The entire curriculum was Crash Course video quizzes and essays. The quiz answers contradicted the questions and it was very frustrating. I have never met a professor who was so difficult to communicate with over email.
Never got to meet her in person because my class was online, and I'm blessed I never had to. Getting hold of her was like trying to get hold of the president. She acts as if her class were more important than any other class. I've never had a teacher like her. Spending time on the plays she made us watch was the biggest waste of time.
My only critique is that the Canvas page was incredibly hard to follow. It was not well-organized & everyone in the class had multiple missed assignments because of lack of direction for the Canvas page & how hard it was to find any assignments & their due dates online. Everything in person was great! She's really funny & easygoing during class.
Absolutely awful professor. No teaching, just cold emails. Zero flexibility, even for emergencies. Obsessed with typos while her own work is sloppy. You'll watch one play all semester. Waste of time and tuition. Just watch Crash Course Theatre on YouTube. You'll learn more and be treated better.
Had to watch 2 pays online and write an essay based on it. If you follow the grading criteria you will get an A. Tests are based on a book.
My favorite professor of all time. She is the funniest woman alive, and is always so positive! If you wanna take an acting class make sure she's your professor! It was never a dull moment with her. She gives amazing feedback and her criticism is thorough but not mean, she was always very kind when giving notes.
