Great Lady, gives a variety of choices to work for extra credit. Very educated and nice to her class. For an A in her class you will learn a great deal about politics and enjoy it.
Mrs.Martinez, is a very intelligent professor with great consideration for her students. She will give you many ways of earning extra credit. I took her for 2301 and 2302, she makes the class enjoyable and you will learn this way.
Great teacher. Very clear, tells us what to expect on tests. Gives extra credit opportunities. Highly recommended.

Excellent teacher, very easy she tells you whats on the tests word for word. All you have to do is just study & not even a lot. Very nice and funny. She is very smart and always nice. One of my best teachers overall @ SAC
She picks her favorites.Shes not nice to everyone at all. Shes very out spoken about her believes and expects everyone to think the way she does and to word everything the way she would in a test. She lies and tells you you'll pass her class and then fails you at the end.
She is a laid back prof.. but she gives a lot of writing assignments an essay due every fri. for ten weeks..all exams are essay and short answer... MUST go to class and take good notes, grades off for spelling. does give extra credit can be snobbish at times... but still if u take.. pay attention
Their are weekly short essays due and the tests consists of short answer or long essays. If you attend class regularly and take good notes you will pass. She reviews what she will ask on the tests so there are no surprises. You can have a differing political view and it won't be held against you.
Great presentation, keeps you awake. Follow the syllabus, provide 10 one page essays, participte in class, and take quizzes. Every class she makes you aware if you owe anything for marks. She really teaches you how to analyze the government and politics. Excellent class.***
Iloved this class- her love of politics projected in to the class, she gives alot of extra credit and her tests are essay but if you study you will do very well. As for easiness its pretty cut and dry as long as you do the work you cant fail.
Shes a Democrat and proud of it! my wish is that she would just teach instead she uses the class to voice her own opinion at every turn. Shes further left than Kerry and Kennedy!!!! Just teach the material, ok? and if you try to give your opinion, look out!! just sit in the back andstay quiet.
SHE VERY UNCLEAR WHEN IT COMES TO LECTURES EXPECTS YOU TO UNDERSTAND WHAT SHE BELIVES. WHEN YOU ASK FOR ASSISTANCE SHE DOESN'T PROVIDED IT. SHE IS ALSO VERY OPINIONATE AND JUGDMENTAL. IN OTHER WORDS IT'S HER WAY OR THE HIGHWAY. I JUST DON'T LIKE NOR AGREE IN HER TEACHING WAYS.
If you believe in Santa Claus, HO HO HO, this is for you. If not you will be left out like the Grinch when you get your grade...and left without your green shirt if you know I mean. But go ahead...and make her day...
Very interesting, lectures are never borning. Weekly essays are not very hard, you can write about what you want as long as it goes with the class. She does give great preperation for the test. No babying done, everyone is treated like an adult.
Let me tell u, if you want a real college prof this is it, not a breeze but u fail ur self DO THE WEEKLY ESSAYS. does not take roll and gives a review before test with everything that will be covered, made govt interesting cant wait for 2302. very down to earth but slackers need not enroll
I really enjoyed her class! She is simple, students tend to make it more complicated than it really is.Just do your weekly essays and she gives you reviews on what will be on the test, so you know what to study for. She makes government interesting. If you want a really cool teacher, take her.
I took Prof. Martinez for 2301 and 2302. You'll only fail her class if you don't try. If you do your essays and study the questions for the tests, which she tells you before hand you'll do fine. Plenty of extra credit to help out on bad tests. Interesting disscussions.
Straightforward class. Tests are all essay and short answer, but everything is simple and there are no surprises. Ms. Martinez is a great instructor. She tells us exactly what will be on the tests. As stated before on here, other students in class do tend to make it harder than it actually is.
She is a great teacher. her teats are easy, BUT they are biased. Just put what she wants to hear, and you will get an A. I was opposit many of her views, but just said what she wanted on tests and aced them. Didnt even crack a book.
She is not a good teacher, she doesn't explain everything at all. If you are not on her political side you won't get a A ever. She is so sarcastic. You can't express your opinion with her. She is always rigth. Do not take the class with her.
people that say she does not respect their view are wrong, she respects, but challenge's you to explain with evidence, and if u can't its not her fault you look stupid, so people need not down her she backs what she feels, you just have to do the same
she is not very helpfuld and does not work with you when you go and ask for help
I have never been into government classes cuz they just don't interest me, but this teacher is very engaging and she puts government in a way that people my age can understand it.
I have read every comment on this page and I must say that I do partially agree with all of them. Martinez is very biased when it comes to teaching. She shares only her opinion and her views! She has a hard time allowing others to speak when voicing their opinions. She will constantly interrupt you! Very frustrating!!!
A very good teacher she gives lots of extra credit. Unfortunately, most of her tests are essay questions though.
She talks really fast and bases her tests on lecture notes and class examples. But she tells you exactly what is going to be on the test the lecture before the test. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Just review the test questions she gives you and you'll get an A.
Its an easy class if you do well on essay test. I thought I sucked at essay's, but I came out of her class with a B :) She is very opinated, but so is the entire government department at SAC. The do nothing but bash the republican party and give a one sided view of the political process.
Interesting class... i learned more than I thought I would... She is a good teacher... easy work. Take her for both 01 and 02
Great instructor, interesting lectures. Read the syllabus and be responsible with your work and you will be fine. Do all the work that she tells you to, do extra credit, and listen to the lectures. She tells you exactly what's on the tests. Easy A. Very passionate. She's earned her right to be opinionated...thats why she is the teacher.
Very impatient with questions pretaining to her syllabus, but very talkative and open to just about any other type of question. test are a little hard but she gives a ton of extra credit so it makes her class easy.
She was tough very unorganized. The weekly essays are a bit of a burden. She will not babysit. expects that you will understand and do the reading I suggest a recorder for lectures. test are basedon them & books.Stay in your seat and don't be late. She can be fun. She just expects you to act like an adult. Helpful during office hours.
Mrs. Martinez likes to takes a lot of bunny trails during class, making it hard to take notes on what's really important. We all had to write political essays (one per week) on articles from NY Times, which got a little old. To her credit, she gives good grades and always tells the class what's going to be on the test so you can study up for it. (Easy A)
great teacher! pay attention to her lectures, and if your memory serves you well, you will ace the tests (which consist of essays/short answers). you're going to need to buy about 10 blue books. and if you do bad on the tests, just do some extra credit, she's very generous with that. i'm taking her again next semester.
I took this teacher for Gov't 2301 and 2302 and i got A's in both classes. I wouldn't got an A if it wasn't for my recorder. (thats the Key) She tells you exactly what is coming in the test, all i had to do is memorize my notes word for word and write them in the test for an easy A. (Recorder+Memorize= A)
I took her for 2301 + 2302, and got two a's. she gives reviews for the tests. you write current event essays once a week and you can rewrite them, these will give you a good grade. she is funny and nice and always willing to help. no homework and she does not take attendance.
Weekly papers eventually get tedious, and sometimes her lectures are pure rants. She just looks angry all the time, which sucks. But she is interesting, although bias (big surprise...not), and helpful.
She was on ok professor, she was kind of unorganized and I really didn't see the point of writing and essay from the NY Times every week. This is a government class, it should not be WI. She did let you know exactly what was going to be on the test so that you could study, however, there were lots of tests and ALL ESSAY! It's not a lit course lady
She wasn't a bad teacher. But when I broke my ankle she threw me to the dogs and dropped me and ignored me when I tried to talk to her about a solution to my problem and try to finish her class. She can be rude at times but I never thought she could do something like this to a student. Since she did say that she understood how tough things can be.
Professor Martinez is such a great teacher. She does make you do 10 NY times essays but they only take like 45 minutes. She is clear on all assignments. If you pay attention there is no reason not to get an A. I had her for 2301 and 2302. I really wish she taught more classes. I now know how important it is to pay attention to our government.
Great and fair teacher. Gives lots of extra credit for going to political events and movies. Does short answer written exams instead of multiple choice. Study and you will do well. You will learn a thing or two if you pay attention.
she was an ok prof. i dont suggest taking class for maymester! she tells u what might be on test, drops lowest test.tests 90%,final 10% of grade. write lots of notes and read book! she grades hard-even takes off for gramar errors! all essay and short answer tests. basically if u dont know it, u wont pass. nyt articles ex credit if checkd.talks alot
Mrs. Martinez was great. I took this class during Maymester. If you work hard, she gives you plenty of opportunities to do well. Her reviews are her tests and take advantage of any extra credit. She drops the lowest test grade. This really was a great class. She is a dynamic speaker and very helpful! Enjoy!
Overall a good prof. She talks more than lectures, but about the subject or current events. All you do is write- 10 NY Times summaries, 8 or 9 essay/short answer tests and a final. Gives tons of extra credit- political movies and lectures on campus. She tells you exactly what to write on the test- take good notes! Easy A if you try a little.
Forget slides/texbook readings in class, etc. She is all about current issues and agenda. I had NO interest going in and am loving it coming out. ALL essays w/ short answer, just be date and character specific. She also gives 10 pt extra credit per exam if you summarize and give governmental points on the New York Times. TAKE HER!
The notes you take in class are exactly the test material. She's awsome at giving you the info you need. STAY ON TOP OF YOUR ARTICLE ESSAYS. She is understanding and just wants to see her students succeed.
WORST EVER. VERY BAD AND JUDGEMENTAL ON EVERYTHING. HATES MEN.
If you want an easy teacher and don't mind liberal beliefs, Mrs. Martinez is the one for you. She gives excellent notes, which she writes on the board, and only grades you on essay tests based on the notes. The only downside is turning in a NY Times essay every week. She offered lots of extra credit opportunities and does her best to help you pass.
Great teacher! You have to try really hard to fail this class. She gives you an idea on what is going to be on the tests and gives A LOT of extra credit (too much if you ask me.) She is liberal, however, she did not mind being challenges by different beliefs. I would take another class with her.
She gives excellent notes on exactly what's on the test. There are 10 new york times essays due, but there only about 1 1/2 pages every friday until you get 10. There pretty easy. it's just her way of making you read what's happening in the world. Tons of extra credit, even if your test scores aren't that great you can still get an A.
Great Teacher! She tells you exactly whats on the test. She also requires 10 essays that are due every friday but they are really just summerizing and relating to chapter. Mrs. Martinez also offers alot of extra credit. As long as you get in all 10 essays by the end of the semester and you make pretty good test grades you will definately get an A.
I passed her class with an A the first semester I took her. During the second semester my grandmother passed away and missed a test. When I called to tell her of the news and if I could make it up she said no. So dont expect her to be understanding when it comes to family.
EASY class.great teacher.TONS AND TONS of extra credit.the tests ARE the review.TELLS u whats on the test.cant miss a class or youll be behind and her lectures is all u need for the test NOT the bk.doesnt care bout attendance but DONT come in 15 mons late shell tell u to leave.overall its SO easy,no projects/papers ever and shes funny too.
Lots of essays tests. Wonderful discussions. Not just a class, a worldly experience.
She was not helpful at all. Her class was somewhat interesting because I like govt but she was very rude and monotoned. She has a very high opinion of herself and is not understanding of anyone's situations. Only good thing about this class is she doesn't check attendance.
I think her lecturing was very good, but was really surprised by her grading. She does give extra credit, but if she does not like you. Forget about it. You'll fail.
Good professor. She can been pretty strict about her weekely assignments (political essays), but as easy as the test are its understandable. She pretty much gives out the exams, read those, do your assignments, and do some extra credit and it's an almost garuanteed A.
I almost changed my major because of this woman, she is great! Never have earned an A till now! weekly 1 pg essays, 5 tests drops lowest exactly like studyguide, and final, tons of extra credit, and if you do well enough on tests not required to take last test or final!!!
Meh. Disappointed. Felt like a high school course.
This class not worth taking. If you have terrible writing skills than dont take this class. All her tests are essays THERE IS NO MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS. She have you doing current events due every week that are from NY times. She grades her test very hard. She gives extra credit but its really hard. She talks very fast during her lectures.
She is bias. I did get an A But she was also very rude. She acts as if she is above others. Take her if you have no other choice.
I see a lot of comments saying her class was easy. I don't think it was easy at all. I had to study a lot for her essay tests, and I used the book, not just the notes. Also, I had a hard time doing the weekly current events and I don't feel like they added anything to the learning experience. She was an okay teacher. Passionate, but off topic alot.
Although she gives you the questions that will be on the test in advance it is critical to prepare thoroughly - it is not an easy "A". Between the lectures, book, 10 required NYT essays and the political science driven extra credit, you will gain knowledge. I just wish she would have taught this very important course in a more nonpartisan manner.
Ok this class is hard but your in college quit whining already! /she is an awesome prof. yes she expects you to participate& come prepared. So what, all the test are in essay form and you do have weekly essays & she is little rough, at first but she isnt there to be your best friend. This was a great class & Iam taking her again,Summ 1.
Prof.Martinez was the BEST!yes she req. wkly essays & she is critical on format but whats the big deal?Ushould be able2write an essay!& she is opinionated, but what prof. isnt?if U want 2learn, she will help & she isnt rude she expects u2 be an adult &be prepared! She is the Great prof. & Iam taking her again!I got an "A"but i earned it!
EASY&interesting class.TELLS u whats on tests, review IS the test.have2go2 class for lectures cus thats where she gives all info.for the tests.TONS of ec!doesnt count att.but DONT be late to class she'll call u out.but the class is interesting to come to.i got an A.take her for SURE!gives a wkly article but its easy!shes awesome!
Horrible, horrible, horrible!!! If your the type of learner who learns by class room this class is not for you! Yeah everyone will say the class is interesting, but truth is, its random gossip. No idea how anybody is suppose to learn what's suppose to be on the test if we never go anywhere in the class.
Class is not mandatory but go to every single one. Her lectures are really engaging. Do get off topic from time to time but it is still entertaining. She is really helpful and gives alot of chances to turn in extra credits. Test are short answers but she does give out a review and even give out the answers for each question. Best prof!!
She is an amazing teacher, so does teach by lecture..so if you not at college level of learning than you will prob have a hard time (the people who left rude comments?) You have to be absolutly stupid to not make an A in this class! Its alot of work, but not hard at ALL!! She rocks!
I feel overall she is a good teacher. She could of been alittle more organized, and been alittle more lax on the tests instead of all essay format, mabe half essay half multiple choice..But she does know Gov. very well, and like i said overall is a good teacher.
IF YOUR A STUDENT WHOM HAS DIFFICULY BEING PRESENT, THIS CLASS MAY BE FOR YOU BECAUSE SHE NEVER TAKES ROLL. HOWEVER, IF YOUR LATE DONT EVER BOTHER SHOWING, SHE WONT LET YOU IN! OVERALL EASY CLASS IF YOU STUDY AND DO THE ESSAYS EVERY WEEK. RAMBLES MORE ABOUT POLITICS THAN LECTURES ABOUT THE SUBJECT. NO MATTER WHAT STUDY THE STUDY GUIDES, THERE WHAT
Martinez gives tons of opportunities for extra credit, unlike many other professors. All you will do is write essays in her class, but they're not bad at all. An easier teacher would be Alfaro-Flint.
She is a good instructor, but she seems to be very rude and doesn't like when you interupt her. So don't walk in late or ask anything just sit and listen! (which i disagree becuz i pay for the class wo fin aid) You will do a lot of writing, every test is essay form and you must be a GREAT writer. She seems a little into herself, but overall--okay.
I agree with last post, she is very rude and kind of snoby. She really shouldn't be teaching!! She always seems to talk about everything else but government. uhhh... i really hate this class just one more day till its over!!! But I do have an A in the class, and trust me anyone with an A really deserves it,its brutal!!!!
She's okay, talks fast and she is a scatter brain. She always seems to forget things and doesn't make sense.
she was GREAT!!
She is a great professor! Her exams are in essay format. She also gives extra credit. Easy class.
She talks more about random things that don't pertain to class. It's all essay format for test and final. RUDE!!!
took this professor for maymester and I have to say it has been one of the most fun experiences ever!! her tests are in essay format which means she is really interested in you learning. Just stay out of her radar, dont give your personal opinion. its best if you just read the material and do the extra credit.I did, i got an A
I think her pregnancy made her kind of naive at times...She is great don't get me wrong..but she has too many test..extremely exhausting for students taking other hard courses as well...she does give out answers to test && study guides.that's the only good thing..
She can be rude at times. She always wants it her way or else. She brags a lot about her "perfect daughters" and "husband". No one cares about her daughters!!! Also, she has to many test and wants essays due every Friday!! I got a B I really wanted an A but she was over flowing us with to much work!!!
i loved this teacher. yes she was hard and it was a lot of work but she keeps u interested. i was scared to take her first because of what people said on here but i ended up passing the course with an A. just do all the essays and answer the study guides and you have an A in the class! plus she gives tons of extra credit! hard to fail her class!
She was a good teacher. But she also dropped me when I was in the hospital. I wanted to try and finish but she did not let me. My husband tried to get information from her on what I missed and she told him off. She is rude. Very liberal, which I do not mind. Others may though. Just go to class and shut your mouth, you will do fine.
Honest, She an excellent professor. Class is work intensive due to several test and 10 current events due by the end semester but she provides study guides that is almost identical to tests. Come to class, take notes, follow the study guide and you?ll do fine. She offers tons of extra credit.Got an A+ and learned A LOT.
Would only recommend her to my worst enemy and I even think that is kinda mean. She is funny, keeps you interested but the work is over whelming! If you can try and record her lectures. her study guides are like the test but if you spell wrong or do any kind of writing error she will make you re-write the essay or take points off. dont take her!
I do not recommend her unless your a govt nerd or its your major. Its not hard but its not easy! Gives extra credit and study guides but shes very picking on what your put on the test which are all eassy format!
Professor Martinez was a wonderful professor. I just had her Govt. 2301 class for a Maymester. She is very helpful and willing to stay after class to further explain material if needed. Her grading style is great, all of your work Is done throughout the course and your final can only help you not hurt you. The only thing I didn't like about the class was her test were all essay and short answer. Overall I think she is a good professor, but I wouldn't take her again because of her test.
She is fun! her voice reminds me of Romy from Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion. But yeah, she dumbs it down, puts it in bullet points, puts study guides online, lots of extra credit help. but her class is in essay and short answer, so hopefully you're good at that! haha.
Loved her! Nice woman definitely recommend her. Doesn't care about attendance but does take note of it. Her tests are all written NO multiple choice so if that's a problem don't take her. Easy A
Great instructor! Took her for 2301-02. The amount of work is what's expected, 2 hrs for every lecture hr. All essay exams, but she tells you what's on the test. Write on more than asked, she gives lots of points! Do the extra credit! She is outwardly very liberal in her views, but knows her stuff. It's helpful to gain diff. perspectives.
I absolutely loved this class.I had no interest in government before taking this class, but she is so enthusiastic and really makes you want to understand the current events in politics. Her study guides are the exact same questions as the tests,so a bad grade is serious lack of trying.I wish I would have taken her for gov 2301!
If you take good notes and just put a little effort in to it, then you'll get an A.
Mrs. Martinez is one of the best teacher I ever took. Her class is a little difficult but if you show up and take notes you should pass with an A. You don't need to buy a book and she gives up to 50 points of extra credit that can be as easy as going to see a movie in Theaters. High recommend you take her shes a great teacher.
CHALLENGING class!, you do learn, but she absolutely does not cut you slack she expects no excuses, Study a lot for her Essay questions tests, she has about 7 tests, plus 10 essays, does give extra opportunities so really do it cause its really helpful. go to class and TAKE GOOD NOTES.
She is a real nice lady. Classes ARE MANDATORY if you want to pass her class. Her study guides are almost like her tests but they are reworded to make it more challenging. She teaches all orally so you HAVE to pay attention. The book is a must! She gives a LOT of extra credit opportunities. Real nice lady I recommend her if you like government.
Miss Martinez is very supportive, and she is very helpful. She gives a lot of Extra Credit just to help student pass the class with a good grade. Just turn in your paper and study the study guide, you will make an A. if you don't like writing a paper every week, then look for another professor.
Mrs. Martinez is a GREAT professor! I didn't know hardly anything about govt before this class and after I learned a lot. It is hard but come on your in college! I studied and I made an A! If you want to learn take her class!
Take her class. She gives about 7 exams. Each exam comes with a "review". The review is the exam. The review has 5 or so bullet points that you answer in essay form. Bam, there's your test. She is a very lenient grader. You also have to summarize 10 news articles. That's it. Not hard on attendance. Tons of xtra credit. Slacked off, still made an A.
Took Prof. Martinez during Maymester. Short MLA paper over a New York Times article due every Wednesday & Friday (6 total). Had 7 tests and the lowest was dropped. Kind of difficult but fair. Be sure you know what you're signing up for when you register for a maymester class. Thought I deserved an A but got a B. Oh well, got full credit in 3 weeks.
OMG Ms Martinez is a nice teacher but she became my nightmare. I took her class for summer. We had 5 tests and the final i got 90,95,80,85,112, and i turned in all my articles. A week later I ask her for my grades and she replied telling me that i got a D in class how is that possible when i didn't even got a c in any of my tests??
I took her for maymester. I loved this class because i find politics interesting. WARNING:If you are bad at writing essays or producing your own opinions/thoughts and putting it on paper DO NOT take this class. Her tests are all essay. I got hand cramps. lol But otherwise i thought this class and the professor are awesome.
The class was pretty interesting. I hated the whole essay part of the class. Basically EVERYTHING was essay both homework AND test. This may be a bad thing however, she gives partial credit for what you do. Make sure you do the homework that's very crucial. However if you're lazy like me, be sure to go to the extra credit opportunities :D
I didn't know if I was taking an English class or a Govt class. She claims she has too many students to be reading essays but that's all we did! Essays for everything! I only took the class because its a part of my degree (which by the way has nothing to do with writing essays) and its one of the worst classes I ever took. Don't let her fool you!
This is not a blowoff class. Mrs. Martinez is a good teacher, but will only help those who are willing to try more than the bare minimum. ALL tests are written from, on average, ten writing prompts. She knows how to work her students, but gives A BUTT LOAD of extra credit opportunities. Be prepared to work...a lot.
She gives you the questions two days in advance before the test (what you see on review is exactly what's on the test). Be prepared to work, take notes and read the book. The final is in an essay form which is only ten percent of your grade. She gives a lot of chances for extra credit; movies or extra activites. Article from n.y.t. is due friday=10.
She does not use scantrons, only multiple question long answer tests. She does not clarify anything and spends all of class on tangents that do not relate to the course material.
This is a great class. I have learned so much about our government and can better understand it now. The test is all short answer but if you read the chapters a couple of times the test will be easy for you. She doesn't lecture that often but when she does it makes the chapter easier to understand. Be prepared to work hard.
Tests are all short answer, and she gives you all the answers you need for the tests on the study guide. Pay attention and do the work. She is fantastic. :)
took class during maymester & it was a breeze. you can use the study guide she hands out during the test as long as you fit all the answers on the front and back of the study guide all hand written though. im sure it is not that easy during a regular semester or so she says. listen write and contribute time to study guide and you will be fine.
WARNING! Do not take this professor if you want to learn and pass. Mrs. Suzanne will not try to help you understand anything. She sometimes gives you the test but will fail u if you use words from the book. This makes up for her not teaching. Not a detail or structure professor. Talks about her bar business & UT daughter. Irrelevant to class.
She's a challenging but very interesting professor! Her tests are all written answer, no multiple choice or fill in the blank. You really have to study, but you will learn a lot. She is a hard grader and looks to see that you are actually learning. Personally she seems really stern but straight forward and very political. Good teacher.
Mrs. Martinez is knowledgeable in her subject, however she was rude and unhelpful in most circumstances. She told us that we did not need a specific book, but she uses specific details from the book listed for the course. Overall she is not unbearable, but I would not take her again.
As long as you take detailed notes and pay attention you should be fine. I took this my very first semester and did great.
Very writing extensive but the essay questions come straight out of her study guides. She also gives more than enough opportunities for extra credit. She also tosses out your lowest exam grade. In my opinion she's an excellent lecturer. However, because she speaks rather fast try to tape record her lectures. Sure A if you take her class seriously.
She explains things very well. The only downfall is she gives tests just about every week. They are all short answer but if you don't elaborate enough she will count off. Nice lady, but she expects a lot in a short period of time. I wouldn't recommend her if you're looking for an easy A.
She is a great professor. Her tests are in short paragraph responses and you may feel like you're always testing and you will. Memorize the study guide and you will make an A! I highly recommend that you record her and she does talk fast. I personally enjoyed this class an A is very rewarding.
Excellent Teacher! Highly Recommend. Very knowledgeable. Offers PLENTY of e.c. Fun class, before this class I had no interest in politics but from the beginning she had my attention. 1 essay due every wk until you complete 7, test every 2wks & your final exam is ONLY 10% of your grade. If you get anything lower than a B, its your own fault.
Ah I have such mixed feelings about her because on one hand she's pretty cool & completely changed my perspective on politics, making it so fascinating & relevant to me -- I even wanted to get involved, but even though I studied really hard for her "short" answer tests, I couldn't please her & didn't feel she would help me fix my grade.
She's very liberal, so if you're conservative, spare yourself the frustration and choose a different teacher. She runs a very writing intensive class -- make sure you do the 10 essays, or else you're screwed. Do your reviews in essay form and the more details you remember, the better! Its really ALL about details and length with her!
Hard grader, have to have strong writing skills to do well. Test are once a week and gives confusing study guides that are 30% different from the test. CAN BE RUDE AND SARCASTIC. average grade c
Mrs. Martinez is the most unprofessional teacher I've had so far. She makes wild accusations like "I voted for the President because he's black" and lectures with discomforting, personal stories about things like her "painful home births". She is self-righteous and scatter brained, her laughable presentations are no doubt improvised. Just awful.
Get ready to read big time! She is a tough grader what ever she says about " study what is on review because that is on the tests, that is such a lie. f I were I would read ahead and record her lectures that is a good thing about her. Also what ever extra credit comes your way take as many as you can. She can also go off topic so main tip read.
if you want an essay A don't take this class. her lectures are her just talking. there are no PowerPoint or writing on the board. she talks really fast so its hard to get notes. she is one of the toughest teachers I have ever had.
Professor Martinez is passionate about what she teaches. Tests are full blown mini essays, there are no multiple choice scantrons. I personally liked this better because it allowed me some wiggle room on what I knew and didn't know. Lots of extra credit. I didn't have to take the final because I kept an A all semester.
Yes, her class is straight up lecture, but everything she lectures will be on the test. She obviously loves her job, and the spurs, but her lectures capture you. I would recommend taking, just expect to write a lot. but ask her if you can get a recorder, if you just bring it she wont allow it. use your head
She knows what she's talking about and obviously loves her job, but she was just rude. She does nothing but talk and sometimes it's hard to keep up, when I asked to repeat something she just told me I should have listened better. Taking notes are crucial, her tests are short responses and the answers come from her lecture. She was just rude.
English is not my first language, so English class has always been a challenge for me. However, she is a great teacher. I can understand almost what she said and taught. The topic she gave for papers is not that hard. Just read the book she asks you to read, and you'll pass. And I got a B!!It's my first time B in the English class!
Great teacher, i feared taking this class but i learned so much in this class. Listen to her, study the guides she gives, material will be on the test, key in on the hints she drops about bonus and extra credit, and do the reports. Easy. I would highly recommend her. Just pay attention and do what she says and you will pass.
Her lectures are great! you can tell she knows what she is talking about and that she is very interested in it. Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities which you will need because her tests are a bit tough but not extremely difficult, as long as you do your reading and don't miss class it should be easy enough.
I liked her, but i didn't like the fact that we had so many tests, they were a bit tough, so study! Her lectures can sometimes be vague, so recording would be helpful. the test are all written. although, she does give so much extra credit. And all she does is talk, no power points.
Ms. Martinez is a fantastic professor. I took her for both Federal government and Texas government because I loved her lecture teaching style. She does tests almost every week and wants specific answers for the questions on the test, but as long as you go to class and take very good notes, the study guide looks almost EXACTLY like the test.
She knows what she talks about in her lecture class. But she is rude and sometimes does not agree with you. Her jokes are not funny at all!
This course is lecture heavy. It combines verbal lecture with a textbook of your choice. All exams are short answer/essay. There are extra credit opportunities. However, if you like having powerpoint o to refer to, there are none. Also every exam an article summary essay is due as well. This class is lots of outside of class studying/writing
College is about being presented with facts and being able to freely form any conclusions they draw.
She gives good lectures and great study guides, my main complaint is her lack of professionalism while being very strict at the same time. Example: 6 tests in and we still haven't received our grades for test 4 yet,but she will not accept late tests under any condition. Also spends way too much valuable class time venting about current events.
Such a great teacher. Fully leaving this class with a great understanding about government and how it works. highly recommend this woman. will be taking her next semester for texas government.
Quizzes every week, gives you review so that helps somewhat. RECORD LECTURES! Lectures are interesting, not accessible and won't reply to you. Do the extra credit, it's easy just show up to events. Don't miss a test, she drops the lowest one. Unorganized and you won't get your tests back for a while. Save all tests to go back and study for final.
I took this professor for 2301 and 2305. Professor Martinez is a story based lecturer that brings her subjects alive. You will work hard but her extra credit makes the class forgiving. She would be a great mentor for those going into community or state politics. If you are serious about your college career she is a must take professor.
Worst professor Ive had, the quizzes come straight from the review and it seemed that if you answered it correctly and if she doesn't like your answer she would fail you, very difficult to pass her quizzes and I would not recommend her. She's very liberal, so bite your tongue if you're conservative if you take her class.
She was pretty interesting. Motivated me to vote more and WILL talk abt her political stance and defend herself if anyone questions it. Advice: if u don't agree w her ideology, don't take it personal. Everyone has a right to their views. Didn't personally agree w her, but she's pretty cool. Extra credit really saved me. Took her flex1. Easy to pass
The textbook she asks you to buy is like 4$ on eBay and shes completely straight forward with what she expects on tests. Lots of extra credit. She is liberal and has a sense of humor so if that kind of thing rubs you the wrong way...... shove it.... The class is interesting and an easy A no matter your beliefs. Shes great.
All she does is give out study guides and tests. There is no homework, she gives out extra credit but its something everybody would have to travel to campus to do, you will have to write essays for whatever chapter your on for extra points on the tests. I end up dropping the course but I couldn't deal with her. I think nobody should take the course
I'm taking a Texas Government class right now and I'm so glad its a Maymester because I wouldn't be able to put up with her class on a regular semester. I don't care about how hard her tests are or how her study guides and lectures are boring and uninformative. What makes the class unbearable is her lack of professionalism. She's the worst teacher.
Zero Powerpoint used. I bought a $100 textbook which is worthless for her class. No laptops allowed nevertheless cell phones . Her questions on study guide do not exist online or on the book. She is not clear on her study guide review. She consistently goes off topic during a review to elaborate such topics such as the Spurs.10/25 student drop rate
I read she didn't return tests promptly but we got ours returned the next day, she's so enthusiastic and passionate about what she teaches. She is lecture heavy so be prepared to take copious notes because her exams are straight from her lecture, the textbook is there to just back you up. She gives cheat sheets! Totally take again!
The class is mainly composed of short answer questions and writing reports. 100% essay. No choice questions whatsoever! Will never help you retake an exam. Her questions are off the grid sometimes. You need to write what she want you to write which can be difficult to discern, since the test questions are too short and unclear. Headache for sure!
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She simply not great of a teacher, majority of the time you are self teaching yourself. When she does teach, she goes off topic pretty easily. Seems she gives out a test EVERY week. She gives out tests where it is short answer replies and if you' re short and sweet she will still deduct points for "not enough detail"
Awful just awful. This is an incredibly frustrating class, no clear grading criteria, everything gets handed back late, lecture heavy and will go of onto tangents about her personal life leaving less class time for actual material. Ive never had learned less in a class than this one
WORST professor I've ever had. I don't mind that there are no multiple choice tests. What I can't stand is her lack of professionalism. She's extremely strict on her students about being on time, yet she's always late. She rarely lectures, instead going off on tangents, late on grading work, and her grading criteria is random. Taught myself.
Prospective students for your own sakes, do not register for a class with this horrible professor. Her disdain and lack of empathy towards her students is quite apparent. If you have an opinion about something she is lecturing about, she quickly shoots you down implying you have nothing to contribute. Search for a more qualified instructor for TGV
The only grades are tests and they are all open ended. You have to show up to class because she lectures off the top of her head and there is no powerpoint to reference later. The tests/study guides are strictly based off of lectures so attend class and google later. Final is easy. She is unorganized, and unprofessional, but the class is easy.
I was hesitant at first from reviews on here, but if you fail this class it means you didnt try or show up. She offers lots of extra credit and has office hours and helped me a lot. I actually understand and learned a lot in politics and will take her again next semester. Tests are straight from lectures and drops the lowest.
If you enjoy a hard class, take this professor. If you are more of a visual person than a listener, don't take this professor. Gives tests every two weeks, they are all response/ no multi choice/ short answer, makes you write an essay along to turn in with every test. So like I said, if you want a hard challenging University level class, take it.
Hard class. Lots of tests. Offers Extra credit. Goes off on rabbit trails loads of time so we lose class time/ note taking time. DONT TAKE HER IF YOU EXPECT TO GET ANYTHING HIGHER THAN A B OR C.
She sucks. I hated going to her class and she doesn't provide a rubric for the exams. I wish I had dropped this class. Do not take her!!!!
God awful instructor. Unprofessional, and rude.
Pre-lockdown Id say this class was very very tough and rigorous. You have to read a lot, but you also end up learning me a lot. During the Coronavirus lockdown, Mrs. Martinez was very helpful and did her best to ensure all of her students passed. Wasnt overbearing, provided extra credit, and answered many questions.
Given the circumstances of the current semester, I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt. That being said, I do feel Mrs. Martinez was unorganized. Grades were not posted in a timely manner. The syllabus says text book is recommended, however, it is a pretty much a requirement. Lectures usually turned into rants with strong personal opinions
horrible teacher. unprofessional. rude. goes off-topic every class. not tech-savvy, crabby, old and cranky. does not answer questions during the lecture because "she loses her train of thought". when you ask questions after the lecture she refers you to the book. no explanations or help. DEOSNT answers emails. don't take her, you'll regret it.
I hated going to class, she was so unorganized and always went off-topic. Says her lectures give everything you need to pass her tests but shell talk about 50 different things so you'll only get 20% of the answer you need. She gives out study guides so you can always look at the textbook and find the answers there or on google.
The professor would go off on tangents and it made lectures very confusing. Grading takes forever. If you get a bad grade on a test she doesnt leave a comment as to why. The grading is harsh considering how confusing the lectures are. Dont take this class if you dont want to be confused all year. No powerpoints to help navigate lectures either.
Throughout the semester we didnt receive many assignments so her tests way very heavy.
she is nice but gives no hmk so its only tests NOTmultiple choice. ALWAYS take notes when shes talking it will be on the test usually word for word. your notes need to be detailed bcs that is your only guide for the quizzes watching videos on your own time helps as well. do not miss class. no late work. there's an essay with every test!
Lecture are mandatory but not created to teach you the exact course material required. Its more like a "hey, lets use real world stories and try to make them work.". It does.. to an extent.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
Excellent lectures and a clear quiz schedule with study guides and extra credit are given throughout the course. I highly recommend taking her government classes.
Lecture were very unclear since she only talked and never wrote anything on the board or had any power points. She is also a very tough grader, if you don't put what she said in the lecture she will take points off. Always told us to be professional by being on time but was always late herself. Honestly, I dreaded her class.
