Nice,but difficult to hear

lectures were excruciatingly boring!
Very nice, but lectures leave something to be desired.

BORING lectures...stop reading right out of the text book!
her lectures were right from the text...and it is a boring text :)
very nice, but lectures were boring

Boring as all get out. Not comfortable as a male student in her class.
HORRIBLE, prof
She is an extremely nice and helpful person who is always willing to help students but she is also the worst lecturer I have ever had.
My god, lose the feminist rhetoric. Boring to the nth degree.
Really hard to deal with; always looks like she's on the verge of a mental breakdown; never makes you feel at ease, even when she's being nice.
Lectures are boring to the extreme and directly from the text. Aloof and condesending, possessing an ego slightly larger than the period of history she teaches. Underqualified at best for her role in the department.
Terrible lecturer. Lectures hard to follow, boring, and have no point. Avoid this class at all costs, unless you need it for a 4th year Canadian history seminar. History majors look elsewhere for your Canadian history credit.
She never stops smiling... which is nice, but it gets annoying. Why's she so happy about clicking the mouse?! She's a VERY boring lecturer but is very nice.
Very unhelpful... Doesn't seem like she even wants to help me. She wrote "sigh" in her email, when I asked for help. Doesn't she accept that people need help with her assignments.
She actually READS her lectures from a piece of paper, spends more time on social history than actual turning points, and is outright rude in her emails to students -- she's resisting helping me via email and insisting on helping me with an assignment after it's due.
The most boring professor I have ever had.
So boring. Can't stand going to this class.
Listening to lectures in HI 292 was worse than hearing nails dragged along a chalk board. However, I've also had her for HI342 and her lectures are actually interesting...must have been the boring subject matter of 292.
Her lectures were a tad boring, but it is Canadian history before Confederation, so gotta give her a break. Nice lady, assignments straight forward, exam pretty easy.
Worst class I've every taken. How she is still teaching at the university level is beyond me. Boring, terrible lectures, you learn nothing, stop going to class after the 3rd week. Her assignments are unclear and pointless. Do not take this class
Don't make the same mistake as me: taking a class with her for the second time. Her lectures are scattered, useless and boring and she is an incredibly rude woman. She advocates asking for her help at anytime but makes you feel stupid when you do.
most boring lectures ever...if not for the tuttorials I would have been screwed
I don't think that she even knows what she is saying. How can students follow that?
Helpul but intolerably dry
Horrible class with a horrible prof. Puts me to sleep every lecture, and the way she dresses made me cringe. Material is horrible vague and way too broad - "don't forget the themes!" Blah. Doesnt like to give out too many A's in her class (its a policy with her). Thomson's Cdn History is way better!
Worse Prof. I have had @ Uni. The only one who should not be teaching. Avoid her class at all costs!

Very nice woman, and very helpful.
A very helpful prof. Put in the work and you'll earn a good grade. If the person below spent as much time studying as she did worrying about what she wears maybe they'd have done a little better. For pre-Confed history I was quite suprised at how interesting the course was, especially tutorials.
Zeller takes dry material and does her best with it. She is very knowledgeable and helpful. Take the time to go to her office hours because you will get more out of her class and a better mark!
Boring
Dr. Zeller is really nice to me out when I see her around and knows my name (and I never had her as a tutorial leader) but she's a really boring professor.
always looks like she's about to lose it
Good class, but needs more life in her voice when speaking.
Boring lectures and a generally unhelpful unapproachable prof.
Ok, I know she is boring. Her lectures arn't helpful slide wise, has many nice pictures on them and an outline, so if you like guidelines and stuff written on your slides Zeller isn't a prof to have. But she is very approacable and is helpful with her students. She is a fair marker and extremely knowledgable!!! Decent prod to have in history
Horrible professor! Stay away at ALL COSTS! Lectures are draining, scattered, and a torture to sit through. She also makes her classes ONCE A WEEK for one and half hours?! Don't waste your time/money on any courses taught by this prof. Too unorganized and terrible teacher-has a lot of knowledge on the subject, but can not relay that to her students
STAY AWAY FROM THIS WOMAN AND THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS!!! I'm really not joking. I'm a 4th year, straight A student and I received a D in the course. I attended every class, tutorial, and handed in all assignments. NO ONE got an A on their assignments, and over half the class was sited for Plagiarism... something wrong with that picture? STAY OUT!!!
Lecture are awful, assignments are silly, grades are arbitrary (as a rule she does not give marks over 79%), comments on assignments are unhelpful and is extremely slow at handing back assignments.
Brutal.
That woman can't teach!! She may be a nice lady personally but when it comes to being a Prof. she is extreamly terrible. Whats the point of spending thousands of dollars on school if you get stuck with a prof like her!!! I'm sorry but if u can't teach and all you do is just mark my work hard. It's my turn to critize YOU !!!! EPIC FAIL!

This prof is terrible. Her lectures were scattered and and pointless, she relied on printouts instead of lecture slides that were useless, and cited half the class for plagiarism on their papers! She is by far the worst prof I have ever had. You will fail this class - gauranteed! Its to bad that you need this course for fourth year seminars though.
The lectures were severely boring, but I blame the actually content of early Canadian history, not her. She does go fast though. If you do need to take this class, avoid her as a T.A. I've heard she's a hard marker and I would accept that, juding from my final exam grade in comparison with my other assignments.
she is very rude and not helpful at all. I do not find her an apporachable
RUDE RUDE RUDE!!! Unprofessional and horrible with regard to any form of communication. I agree she does not know how to type and email, needs to take the gum out of her mouth and SPEAK LOUDER!!
She is not a history prof. She does not teach history well at all. AVOID! She was nice enough but is a difficult marker. If you do have her, her exams are based on the themes of the course, not the history. AVOID
avoid this professor!!!!
Avoid this prof at all costs. Nice lady, cares about students, fair marker but her classes are extremely boring and hard to follow (she moves very quickly and teaches thematically, not chronologically). Also speaks very softly and relies on useless handouts.
What a horrible professor. She is dull and uninteresting, unprofessional. Assignments make zero sense, and she is horrible at communicating.
I thought that she was a good professor. As long as you show up for class, take notes and do the readings you should do fine. I did poorly on the final exam, but she was reasonable with my overall grade.
Felt as though I was ill informed of unusual requirements for a history paper, did not explain detail well or provide help when asked.
Great Prof
Great Prof! really kind hearted and will help you out whenever you need! she isa fair marker and truly does care about her students.
Worst class I have ever taken at Laurier. No lecture slides and poorly explains concepts. Will not give grades higher than 79 on anything. The hardest marker I've ever had to deal with. Will never take another class with this prof ever again. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Had good marks in all classes except for hers. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
She's honestly the worst. Unfortunately this was a required course. If you don't have to take her class, avoid at all costs.
Easily the most unprofessional, inconsistent professor I've ever had. Should not be employed. No grading criteria or rubric provided for 25% of final grade weight. No explanations provided in her defense when asked. Did not receive 50% of our grade weight prior to the final exam. Avoid at all costs.
Truly the worst class and professor that I have ever had. She is unprofessional, unkind and the most unreasonable marker when it comes to grades. She is not there to help her students, and can be quite rude when asked simple questions. Be prepared to receive grades that are much lower than what you might be used to. Don't take her class, really.
Can be rude to students and tends to be unhelpful when asked.
Taking this class was a huge mistake. Powerpoint slides are useless, and she speaks too fast, too quiet and too monotone for students to catch all of the information in lectures. She also responds very rudely to anyone who offers an opinion that differs from her own. A very boring class and difficult marker.
Very hard to communicate with don't try asking questions you will be told to look elsewhere
She is a kind person but her assignments do not provide helpful instructions and were frustrating. The monday lectures were completely useless to help understand readings and prepare for assignments. She is passionate and nice but not very helpful. The structure of the course doesn't benefit those who show up yet attendance was worth 30%. avoid :(
When I asked her a question about how to prepare for the final (her original notes were extremely vague) she told me she wasn't allowed to discuss anything past the last class and assumed I wasn't there. She gives out random point form sheets and rambles on for the entire class and no one has any idea what is going on. DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING WITH HER
One of the worst profs I've ever had to deal with... She makes lectures mandatory with a 30% participation mark, but then even in going to lectures the content somehow still makes no sense. The textbook is a must for this course because it's the only thing that made sense. She also criticized my paper for being "too clear in it's argument" HUH???
not a helpful or interesting prof at all. avoid.
Worst professor in the department. Avoid her classes like the plague! I received my worst mark in my whole university career due to her; she also cited half the class for plagiarism on our main paper.
Avoid Dr. Zeller like the plague. You dont need to take her classes, nor should you. Her grading scheme is completely unreasonable and her teaching style questionable. Other reviews are spot on. Its like shes grading from a different planet. Previous lowest grade for a paper: 82, for a class: A-; this class: 74 and B respectively. *shrug*
The absolute worst professor ever. She is monotone, talks fast without any break, and has no structure to her lecture. It ends up sounding like white noise from a TV or Charlie Browns teacher. Her assignments and grading are unclear. If her class is a mandatory credit towards your major, switch your major.
One word: oof. Zeller's lectures are rough... boring, frequently off-topic and monotone. Her marking is absolutely atrocious and the instructions equally so. No one knows whats going on and neither does she. Incredibly rude and condescending as well and does not like being asked questions. 70s are her equivalent to an A. If you have her, run!
If I wanted to have a class similar to a read aloud, I would have gone back to fourth grade carpet time. She will report half the class for plagiarism even if it is cited, close after class dropboxes before you are able to submit, and nobody in the class will get over 80%. Avoid this class unless you want to learn how to source encyclopedia. com
What did I get from this class? Frequent anxiety attacks. She hates being asked questions, is super unapproachable, and appears to hate students as well... overall, a perfect recipe for the worst mark ever in your academic career. - a former straight A student
Is most interested in teaching grammar. The abundance of tutorial readings were obnoxious. Has no desire to engage or learn from students, as she is the expert of her world! I worked very hard for what just squeaked in as an A-. She does simply read boring lectures and has useless slides/notes. All other reviews seem quite on point. PTSD inducing!
I'm always curious why some people gravitate towards education as a job despite having poor communication skills, a horrible attitude towards students, and a general disinterest in teaching. I mean it must be the students fault they dared to ask a question when all of the resources are super blurry or unclear. The audacity!
What do I think of Dr. Zeller's Canadian history class? Eh.
As others have noted, shes a very hard marker; assignments that got me As in other classes barely got Bs in hers. I can take a challenge but it really seemed like she was going to find problems regardless of how much of her past feedback I used. She just doesnt care for you to improve, only cares if you got something wrong stylistically.
I'm in my mid-40's now, had her in a 4th year seminar class back in around 2002.. Class was mixed with Master's students, and I remember this one poor fellow got his Master's level paper returned to him with a black marker stroked through *every single line* of his paper. Man, she's tough. Heavy reading, little feedback, not one to help you advance
3 hr long classes would include her talking to great lengths about advanced philosophical theory and barely anyone listened due to all of us being lost. Group work was unproductive and did not expand our learning, if any learning was even accomplished. Teacher did not help expand of questions we had on papers or anything. Sucks it was mandatory.
