She lays it out in front of you. You know what to study. She's a great lady as well as a teacher
Great teacher. She teaches in a way that you completely understand. Her tests are on exactly the info she taught you - no surprises. It is up to the student to actively study the material.
Wondeful teacher and she goes out of her way to help her students in every way possible. She makes everything very very clear and from there it is all up to you.
I had this prof for AP 1, AP 2, and Micro. She is one of the best ever. WIll tell you exactly what to study, give you practice, and spoon feed it too you. Still hard courses but she'll make all the difference.
She lays it out, for you to play it out! PLUS SHE IS REALLY HOT, even if she is pregnant!
Very good at organizing information and presenting it in a manner that allows for understanding. Difficult classes but definantly at a community college level. Tests are straight foward. Entirely possible to score over 100 percent. Follow the notes exactly, come to class and a great grade is in the bag. If you are taking this to get into the nursing program and find you cant cut this, choose another field or another school.
Suzy tells you exactly what you need to study for and if you study you will do very good. She is not easy but she is very fair and very organized.
Suzy does expect a lot from her students, but also gives a lot in return. Difficult class, but definitely possible to get an A.
Awsome Prof whos notes push you to excell. Must show up to class to learn.
She is the BEST instructor in the Biology department. Highly recommended.
Plan on working hard, but she is there to help in any way. If you have to take this class, be smart and take her!!! You won't regret it! She takes a real care in her students.
Suzy ROCKS! You will really learn a lot. She gives you all the tools and information you need to succeed. It's not easy but, she makes learning fun.
SUZY IS AWESOME!!! I CANT RECOMMEND HER ENOUGH, SHE MAKES LEARNING ABOUT BACTERIA AND DISEASES THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE! SHE IS EXTREMEMLY HELPFUL AND NICE, DONT GET ME WRONG..HER CLASS IS CHALLENGING..BUT I PULLED OFF AN A!!!
She is a great teacher. She cares about her students and makes sure that the material is understood. There is a lot to learn but she lets you know what is important. i looked forward to going to her class!! great teacher.
plan to study ALOT!!
3 words, DON'T DO IT! This class is so hard......beware!!!
She is great. I'm in her Anatomy Class this semester. You actually learn the information. You're lucky if you get her!
Suzy is a wonderful prof. She really knows how to break down complicated information to make it accessible. Her notes are excellent, tests are fair, the class is very organized. There is a LOT of homework but it reinforces learning & makes studying for tests easier. Lab was a blast! Overall one of the very best classes and profs I've ever taken.
Suzy is very nice. Tells you exactly what is on the test, but test are very tricky! Plan to study ALOT! Also ALOT of homework.
I cannot recommend Suzy enough! She is so helpful and really loves teaching Microbiology. There is ALOT of homework but they are graded on completeness, not correctness. She reviews what will be on the exams so you are never caught with something unexpected. I wish she taught all nursing pre-reqs!
BEST teacher! Know's her stuff and knows how to teach it. Tells you what is on test (study homework). If you're a slacker- don't take her. Do what is required of you, study her homework and pay attention to her lectures- you'll make an A.
She's awesome, but be ready to study..and hard....She's an easy A but you have to make it happen....She gives you all the tools, and she explains everything very clear, and tells you how the test is going to be!!! EXCELLENT TEACHER!!!
Suzy is a wonderful who teacher who really cares about her students. She gives you all of the tools that you need to succeed but it does require a lot of work. Her tests are a challenging. She does not use the textbook (even the lab book is kind of a waste). She is slightly overrated but it was a wonderful experience and I would recommend her.
LOVED, LOVED, LOVED SUZY!! AWESOME TEACHER THAT LOVES HER JOB & MAKES YOU REALLY ENJOY LEARNING. I WISH THERE WERE MORE TEACHERS LIKE HER:) I LEARNED SO MUCH & WISH I WOULD HAVE TAKEN HER FOR PHYSIOLOGY. HER NOTES ARE DETAILED & TESTS ARE STRAIGHT FROM NOTES. CLASS DOES REQUIRE ALOT OF TIME STUDYING BUT YOU CAN MAKE AN A! PAY ATTENTION, ASK ?'S:)
Suzy is such a GREAT instructor. She truly cares about her students. The class is hard but it is possible to make an "A". Be prepared to work hard and study hard. You will enjoy this class. But most importantly YOU will know the material at the end of the semester. Suzy explain everything crystal clear. I wish she taught ALL the preq's classes.
I found this teacher being overrated. She expects homework to be done BEFORE she even teaches the material. She does not even teach every chapter she requires for the exam. She misses classes and re-schedules exams at HER convenience with no apology. l like rating well my professors, but I have no choice in her case, I just want others to be aware.
Suzy is the BEST!! The informatoin itself is soo interesting, but Suzy teaches it wonderfully!! I've been recomending her to everyone who needs micro and physiology!! You know the stuff and you remember it!!
Suzi teaches microbiology about as simply and easily as it can be done. Those posting that her class is difficult are complaining about the material, not Suzi's teaching. She basically gives you 30% of the tests by telling you exactly what to expect and 35% of the class grade is completion work. If you can, take Suzi. Micro doesn't get any easier.
Suzy is BY FAR my favorite professor. Microbiology is very difficult, but she made it much more streamlined. I agree with the other reviewer, I wish she taught all the prereqs. I absolutely enjoyed her class and found her to be very helpful. It's a four credit-hour class, so you should expect a lot of work.
There is a reason her physiology class fills up first. One of my favorite classes. Step 1: take her. Step 2: Study. Step 3:?????? Step 4: profit
Full Prof Mathis likes to exercise so if you have her last afternoon class she will slip in a couple of You Tube Videos, somewhat related to Microbiology, and while the students watch the videos she is off getting dressed for exercise. You can count on getting dismissed early if you are in the last afternoon class.
Not exactly what I was expecting after reading all these impressing reviews. She's a decent professor, but you'll struggle in the lecture section if you're a hands on, visual type of learner. Her notes are confusing, the homework is tedious, and while it 'follows' the notes, it skips around entirely way too much to a point of frustration.
An extremely intelligent attractive woman who is teaching the class apparently for biology majors even though it is supposed to be for nurses. Both labs and lectures are at time chaos and many students are struggling to find lecture notes/or lab notes while she is on page 3 already. Class not well organized.
She belongs to the "not invented here class of intellectuals" If you make a suggestion for an improvement in her class you are a marked person who is profoundly disliked. She acts like a students' suggestion is an personal insult. She has had a pretty high dropout rate 17%
I've gone through 3 changes of color ink and 2 changes of black ink cartridges even with ACC's allowance of 10 printed pages a day. Takes a lot of time to print everything she wants. She doesn't use a textbook. Get 2 or 3 reams of paper before you start the class.
She tries to trick you on tests! She uses lots of" double bubbles" on scantrons so she doesn't have to spend time grading tests... That's in her own words! She doesn't use a textbook, so you are limited on information. You have to do a PowerPoint on a disease.
Very disappointed! Is it possible to be able to complete a lab in the alotted lab time? Is it possible to have a "normal" test? She puts tests in the testing center and bugs you all week long about taking it! We are making use of the extra time given! Notes & lectures are confusing for someone who is a visual learner! Not happy about this class!
Do not buy the textbook until the first class where she will probably tell you don't get the textbook, everything is on line and save $. Then get 5 reams of paper, and 3 refills of ink for your printer and spend more than a textbook would cost. Nothing is easier to spend than student's money.
I strongly disagree with the rater who said Prof Mathis is the best in the biology department. I've had 3 others at ACC who were significantly better instructors.
Do not take her. Science is not her strength, she does not have any understanding of a correct experiment. Tests are hard which would be OK if only she would teach well. Lazy. Her own words: "she needs to have a life". Who at ACC tested this woman to see if she is competent?
Suzy is amazing!! She uses blackboard and has SO many resources for her students. Her lectures are very clear and she lets you know EXACTLY what will be on the test. Microbiology is her passion & you absolutely see it in her teaching. This is a hard subject but she makes it interesting and fun! She is a very inspiring teacher!
I strongly believe that the good reviews she gets here are stacked. As a former professor myself, I could tell Microbiology is not her strength. She does not understand basic concepts, is superficial, overloads students without giving too much in return - I guess this is strategy so that you won't have time to notice how weak she is.
Suzy materials are not to be memorized because you have to know the materials on the test. She is by far easy. Yes her teaching skills is easy only because she makes it crystal clear.
This class isnt her strong point. She "doesnt like to teach physiology." She rushes some of the very important topics that need attention. I do love her and I have taken her in the past and will take her for other classes. She is easier to learn from than other biology profs. Take her but remember you do need to study!! It is a hard class.
Suzy is a great teacher and will do everything she can to help you prepare for the exams. She wants to teach you the important stuff, not every little detail. She is not easy. Her test are difficult, but you can get an A if you work at it. I would highly recommend her for Physiology at ACC.
Suzy is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Phys is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. That being said, you can get an A IF you study hard (HOURS outside of class), do the bridging exercises and show up to class. NOT AN EASY A! I would love to see the GPA of some of these students who are giving negative feedback. Just saying!
Amazing teacher! Gives you all the tools you need to succeed. Bridging exercises help narrow down the material and you know exactly what you need to focus on. Must put lots of hours into studying to be prepared for tests. Hard class, but highly recommend this professor.
Took her for Micro and she was awesome! PHYSIOLOGY she is very unorganized. I made my first C ever and I have a college degree. She hands out too many notes. She is not clear. Way too much going on in the class. I retook PHYS with Rick Fofi.. he is amazing. Take Fofi for phys you will NOT regret it. Fofi is awesome and could not be any clearer!
Suzy was a wonderful teacher. Her class is really not difficult instead there is a lot of busy work. However it really helps your grade out! Do homework and she gives you answers to study for the test which basically are the test. She is very organized and sweet, her love for micro makes you truly enjoy the class. Best science class Ive ever taken!
Not very patient with questions, although she SAYS she encourages them. When I've asked questions she looks at me like I'm an idiot and answers me in an annoyed tone of voice. It's obvious the students she has decided to take a liking to and those who she hasn't.
Prepare yourself for a lot of busy work. She gives out so many assignments which never help on your test. Her class is very demanding- not recommended if you are taking other classes. Her tests and quizzes try to purposely trip you up. She is a nice lady, but don't let that fool you. I suggest taking another professor.
I agree with a previous poster, these reviews seem stacked! She completely overloads you and gives very little in return. Worst clas at ACC by far. Labs are very confusing and many of the assignments aren't worth many points to compensate if you are bad at test-taking. Her class is very tough. You can't miss a class without being a world behind.
Suzy is a wonderful instructor. I really enjoyed her class. I thought her tests were pretty difficult, and they seem to get progressively harder. She goes VERY fast in labs so record or pay close attention. Despite her tests and labs, I would still strongly recommend her -- she knows & loves Microbiology and it shows in class- very interesting.
Saw a few of the sour reviews about Suzy, and was a bit confused why. Of course Suzy is a tough professor. She expects a lot from her students - a completely valid attribute! She knows her stuff, and her vibrant attitude makes the classroom experience worth it! Stay organized! Just roll up the sleeves and put in the work. You WILL learn plenty!
She is a very vibrant teacher, very organize. Of course microbiology is a tough class and she expects you to learn well. so prepare yourself before getting in class is a key to success. Some people say it's way too hard but if you actually study...it worth it. Homework she gives is also good study guide.
Suzy is an excellent instructor, probably the best teacher i have had as ACC. She is not easy, and there are always so much works to do in her class, but she is very helpful and fun. I would have done so well in her class if i haven't taken anatomy at the same time, because both just required so much work so it is hard to keep up with both classes
Suzi was great! First, NO TEXTBOOK REQUIRED!! lets you save a good $200. Timely feedback on assignments. She is very clear, and makes notes for you. Her labs are engaging, just make sure you make a game plan for them, because she doesn't require pre-labs. She will also write a letter of recommendation if you ask. And, she made the classes fun!!
She is great, very helpful but this class is hard you need to work hard to earn and A, never used the book she uses powerpoint and outline, do your homework, the test is straight from the homework.. Fun professor i will take her for cellular molecular in the spring.
Suzy is the best professor I've had! The class is hard bc micro is hard! She breaks it down and makes it easy to understand. She shows power points, gives you typed up notes from the PP, the study guides are directly from the notes and the tests are from the study guide! It's a lot of info so put in the time and you'll get an A!
If youve got nothing else to do but work for this class then take it. I mean it, there is a lot of work about 6-7 quizzes every week, homework and lab work. And dont skip a class, you'll just miss a lot and get confused. Honestly, she was not good at explaining and made the class pretty boring. If you can take someone else.
Do your work, ask questions and utilize her assistant, Nina. The class was fun and no book is required. She gives you everything you need to do well in her class. But you must come to class! Missing even one day will set you back ALOT! No curves in grading what you get is what you get. Grades are posted promptly!
I learned so much in this class, it was great.
Came highly recommended, probably due to being cute & nice. Self-designed course - lots of printing. Tests galore - talks very fast & expects one to remember info she's related once in a long & often tangential &or disjointed lectures. She has an organization style online that at times completely eluded me. Best to check out another prof.
Favorite teacher ever. She is super sweet and as long as you do the home work and study the way she tells you, there's no excuse not to make an A in her class. Be prepared for an extensive time consuming disease power point though. I would take her gain if I could. She was the best. No textbooks needed either.
Seriously amazing!! First few weeks of class and I can't help but love her. Micro itself is a challenging class but she thouroughly explains all the nitty gritty material that you wouldn't understand otherwise. It's a heavy duty class, but everything covered in class applies to your field whether it's nursing or medicine, etc. such a great lady!!
No textbook, uses entirely her own materials so you know what to expect. Very precise grader, so LISTEN when she tells you things she'll count off for. Tests are thorough, but she gives a lot of EC, study tips, and and tells you what you'll see on the test. Her lectures are interesting and relatable.
Tough class material but She truly wants you to succeed as a student.
Although the class is tough, an A is possible. I noticed halfway through the semester she almost always responds to questions first with "I JUST went over that..." and then answers the question, which eventually makes you feel dumb and slightly embarrassed, but just be tough, because 9 times out of 10 your question will help you succeed!
She was an absolute amazing teacher she made micro fun and interesting . She let you know what was going to be on tests ahead of time and gave good studying tips. She always answered questions and made sure you understood what was going on. You could use the homework to help on the quizzes. I would take her again!!!!
Suzy is an awesome person. She is witty and charming, and easy on the eyes. She is smart as a whip and has a story for everything. Although she is a very tough grader, she is VERY clear and concise about what she is looking for while grading. Do yourself a favor and take this class!
Suzy was by far the best professor I have ever taken a class from! She is extremely knowledgeable and can really break down the information. Microbiology is an extremely hard class, so don't expect to be able to just fly by, it takes a lot of studying and dedication!! I learned so much from her and would love to take more classes from her!
Wonderful teacher if you do your homework then you should do good on the test. Don't miss because if you miss you could miss key items that she will tell you is specifically on the test. She is always willing to answer a question as long as you have already made an effort to find it yourself and is so enthusiastic about teaching. Don't miss out!!!!
EASIEST SCIENCE COURSE EVER! she really makes a difficult subject easy. Quizzes are given but its open note. Explains labs/lectures thoroughly and prints notes so you aren't left searching for material. Her labs are fun and upbeat. i would definitely recommend her!
Suzy is the best teacher ever! Micro is a tough subject she does give out a lot of work but if you just put forth the effort and study you should pass with no problems I got an A easily Attendance does matter if you miss you will get lost but come on guys it's college not high school where the teachers just pass you so you can get out of their hair
I would take Suzy for every class if I could. She made it fun and interesting. She cares and is passionate about what she does. There is a quiz every class, but you can use your homework notes. The Test are from the homework (and she gives you the answers) There is one big ppt project, so get started on it early. 10/10 for Suzy!
She is one of the best Professors, but if you are a slow learner, take another Professor. She only likes 'A 'students that participate a lot. She has an active personality and if u try to tell her to calm down, she won't listen, saying it is part of the class(daaaa!). Esp her lab is ridiculously so FAST, you can't even breath. Micro is easy, Chill
One of the best! She explains things really well and is game to go over it again and again until you get it. She preps you really well for exams so you know exactly what's coming. Always available to talk if you need help. She's awesome!
One of the best professors. Although the course is hard she explains it very well and makes sure every understands the subject.
Love her! She is super fun and sweet. Made micro so interesting! Expect homework every class, tests are TOUGH. If expecting an easy A, DONT take her!! You must work your butt off, but if you stay on top of your work - you can definitely earn an A. Extra credit is offered, enough that I only needed a 60 on the case studies comp. final to keep my A.
Suzy truly loves what she does and it shows. Her lectures were so interesting and engaging. She doesn't make you buy a textbook and gives you all of the materials you need to do well. She is very organized and wants you to get an A! Overall a wonderful professor. Wish she was teaching all science classes so I could take her again.
I love Professor Mathis. She is amazing! She explains lecture carefully along with her notes, prepare for doing (a lot of) hw and it worth it. You will be good for test and quiz, will be a ppt about disease but it is a way for you to learn from others. Also, study for bacteria names asap because you need them for the whole semester.
Suzy Mathis is like your mom and a professor rolled into one - how can you not succeed with a combination like that? So reasonable with deadlines that I thought I was in the twilight zone! Lots of work and projects, but the load is manageable. She was very clear with her expectations and always available for extra help. She is a dream!
Suzy is a fantastic professor. She is knowledgeable about the subject matter at hand. She really loves science as a whole. If you're looking for an easy A, look elsewhere. I took her for Microbiology, and it was difficult. There is a lot of material. You get out of this class what you put into it. I would take her again in a heartbeat.
Y'ALL. Take Suzy. She almost made me change my major to micro! So passionate. So caring. As long as you put in the studying wrk outside of class (making flashcards w/pics)- easy A. She made the labs super interesting and fun. Very understanding and works with you if she sees you're making efforts! I'll forever love micro because of her!
My experience with Mathis was like the worlds longest joke with no punchline. Do not take this class if you have children, a relationship, a job, any other class, laundry, or any responsibilities. School is her job, hobby, and life, and she expects it to be yours, too. Her way is the only way to learn. Lectures literally hours over time limit. Run.
DO NOT TAKE SUZY DURING HER ONLINE SESSIONS! She expects so so much homework, quizzes every night, lectures are hours long! I guess she doesnt get that we are in a pandemic and the learning circumstances are a little bit different. You will also have to do a 50 slide PowerPoint with little notice of what she expects on it. Prepare to cry & STRESS!
DO NOT take this class if you have anything else going on. (Other classes, kids, allergies, a fondness for ever standing up again). I am getting my first B of my life thanks to this class. She is great at teaching and clearly very fond of her subject, but the workload is completely unattainable if you are taking any other classes.
Hard class, but she sets you up for success. Gives hints to possible test questions and lets you know specific things that will be on the exams. Homework and a quiz due every week, but those are easy points. Explains material very well and gives extra credit. You have to put in the work for an A.
Suzy is a good professor, she does her best too give a clear understanding of Micro. I recommend taking her, she always gives you really good feedback. Micro is hard, and there is a lot you have too do but she makes it very interesting and real so that you want to learn. You have to study and give a lot of your time if you want too pass.
If you have a life, responsibility, a dog or even a house plant to water skip this class. I was spending up to 35 hours a week studying for this class and always stayed between a c and b. Im an A student. Her test come from her packets but her packets are 4 pages long front and back for each lesson and test are over multiple lessons. Don't do it.
Do ALL the extra credits! U will put ur life on pause bc her class is equivalent to 3 heavy upper level science classes. It's insane. Great lecturer though! LONG lectures. A LOT OF MATERIAL to learn and she tests every single thing she teaches. Hard multiple choice tests. She's good/modern at being tricky, but she'll tell u how she'll trick u.
at first i was fighting for a seat for her class because of the rating and this is why i am writing mine!! she goes on for 5hr+ of lecture and lab. my brain was about to explode with how fast she goes. 5 pages notes for a 5 questions/10min quiz before EVERY class. everything is all over the place mind you i am a very messy person. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
Suzy is an excellent professor who truly cares about her students and wants you to do well. There's a lot of information but she's extremely helpful if you reach out to her. With that being said, her class is intense. Lots of tests, quizzes and projects, especially in the 8 week course. DO NOT take w another hard science course!!!
You should take Suzy! She is a very caring prof, and her lectures are interesting. There is alot of work to do, but it's a difficult class. I took Suzy's Micro class in 8 weeks with a full-time job and I got an A. Be ready to put in the time and effort and you will succeed. Suzy is awesome :)
Suzy has been the toughest professor I have taken so far. She gives loads and loads of homework and quizzes. Her exams are 100+ questions. Very unorganized. If you have a job, kids or even pets dont take her class. She goes on 5hr+ lectures and grades so so tough she takes point off out of the most ridiculous stuff.
This is by no means an easy class (anywhere). The trick is putting in the time, showing up for class, and studying. Her lectures are great. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. She is so helpful and straightforward. I watched her explain something at least 6 times to someone. She WILL help!!
Suzy is a good professor. She's a tough love mom kind of professor. Her lectures were long but informative. There is ALOT of homework but gives extra credit which is needed in such a tough class. I took her 8 week summer coarse and it was rough, esp. with little ones & a full time job. A lot to be memorized. Be sure to do the PPT projects early!
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! She is an amazing professor and is so sweet!!! Yeah, she makes you work for the grade, but you really learn the material like the back of your hand after this class. She gives you all the tools you need to learn the material and walks you through it. Also, make sure you do ALL of her extra credit, it's worth it by the end!!
Im so thankful I took Suzy for Micro. Shes straightforward. Lots of HW but doable. It helps on the tests. Shes super easy to follow and caring. Youll definitely have to work for your grade.
In my opinion, Microbiology was the most challenging pre-req for my major. However, Suzi is PHENOMENAL!! She is transparent, communicative and gives you all the tools you need to be successful in the class, but you HAVE TO put in the work & complete all assignments! She clearly LOVES her job & it shows through her teaching. Love love love her!
I find these reviews a bit misleading. There is a power point she gives you plenty of notice about. Her instructions are super clear. There is so much extra credit available, Do it! I was able to get a B in this class because of it. She really wants her students to succeed. Suzy is a true Gem if you're able to take micro with her jump on it.
Very enthusiastic, knowledgable and high energy! Highly recommend taking microbiology with her as the class is very difficult.
She is honestly one of the best professors I've had. She truly cares about student's education while also giving real-word scenarios related to the topics being taught. You can tell she enjoys her job as she adapted to the online setting from COVID and was able to easily transition back into the classroom when ACC allowed for it. No book required!
This is a challenging but rewarding class. Suzy gives you everything you need to do well in this class. Study guides, extra credit, and reminders when things are due. Do the work and get a good grade. Suzy is a great teacher and I enjoyed this class.
I love, love, love Suzy! She's got that magical combination of relatable + low-key nerdy about her field of study. She genuinely wants you to like Micro too. I was super worried about having to take this class as a prereq, but she's very organized and helps you learn exactly what you need to know to have success in her class.
Her class is tough but the reason she has a great rating is because she actually knowledgeable. She ACTUALLY teaches. You are allowed 6 absences but just know that you are missing valuable information. She has a gift for making the material AS comprehensible as possible. Shes a great professor but she is not a miracle worker. TAKE HER
SHE WAS THE ABSOLUTELY GREAT! Lots of good material she made microbiology less terrifying to take and very enjoyable to learn how it applies to life and actually understand the material. Which is hard to say sometimes for science courses. I wish the class wasn't 8 weeks but blessed it was my first summer class. (For summer dont add extra clases)
Pros: lots of ec, not as much emphasis on tests, easy assignments, tests based on memorization Cons: lecture/lab always go past time (i was always late for my 2nd class), lecture is exhausting/long, exams have too much content tips: Study everyday, I only studied the bridging ex answers and lab practice exams & did well on all exams, use flashcards
Very unorganized. Takes really long posting grades. Posts information for class after 10pm the night before. Gives excessive emphasize on what is incorrect, repeating what the wrong answer is. Has multiple misspellings in notes and PPT presentations, while emphasizing the importance of spelling.
I thought ppl were exaggerating abt the workload. Theres always something due, I havent slept more than 4 hrs this month. she says "this is what we should expect in med school". that's no reason to put students thru this in undergrad. Im only taking 2 classes & working pt time, cant imagine what its like for fulltime students with jobs.
Microbiology is a tough subject and Suzy will make you work hard for an A. However, she does make the content fun and interesting to learn about. She offers TONS of extra credit and if you study- the exams are not bad at all. Highly recommend Suzy!!!
Pros: She studied science education so she actually knows how to teach. Assignments are carefully selected to help you learn and she explains well. Pleasant personality. Cons:1.5-2.5 hour lectures without breaks and mandatory attendance, 75-120 question tests over too much content at once, and heavy memorization of literally everything required
TAKE HER SHES SO AMAZING, lecture is heavy but she makes it really fun she offers a lot of extra credit this class is honestly easy if you just study she has 4 lecture exams and 3 lab exams, disease project as well. she tells you whats going to be on the exams lab exams has 40 so questions lecture is 70+ questions last exam is 125 questions.
Suzy is a very nice lady and cares a lot about her students. Her course is definitely not easy, you have to work hard for your A! Grading is a mix of lab and lecture exams, projects, and quizzes. She is very kind and is always willing to help you with anything you might need.
Suzy is awesome. She gives extra credit and the bridging exercises are helpful for studying. She gives a review powerpoint for all exams. Exams are pretty long but it's a dense course. Last unit exam is optional and replaces lowest exam grade. Microbiology is not for the weak, but she gives you all the resources you need to get through it.
suzy is an amazing professor, 4 lecture exams total she drops the lowest grade so technically 3, 3 lab exams as well she offers a lot of extra credit and tells you whats going to be on the test she has practice test as well for lab exams which is the exact same. literally just study her exams are really easy no trick questions.
One of the best professors I've ever taken at ACC. Suzy is a professor that cares about her students and wants them to succeed. If you do not put in the work and take it serious then you will FAIL. Her lectures are long but they are informative and helpful. She drops the lowest test grade except for the last test. Take her!!
Greatest professor ever! Micro is hard but she is extremely helpful. Its a lot of work and the test are hard but as long as you study the material she gives you, you'll be fine.
If you have the chance to take suzy before she retires please do!!! She is by far one of the best teachers I have had in my academic career. She makes the lecture super easy to follow with her bridging exercises and lots of extra credit that can bump you a letter grade! She is so organized and kind do yourself a favor and take her class!
Suzy is amazing! Microbiology is tough, but she sets you up for success. The bridging exercises that she gives as homework really do prepare you for the tests. She emphasizes things that she is going to test you on, and tells you exactly what to study. If you work hard and show up, you're going to do great in this class. Take micro with suzy!!!
Suzy was amazing! Her Micro class is easily my favorite class that I've taken. She makes her lectures and labs both fun and engaging, and she provides notes to use to learn the material (similar to a flipped class if you like that). Her tests are hard if you don't study, but she provides a LOT of extra credit to help you. Suzy wants you to succeed!
Suzy is AMAZING. Knows her stuff and is a great teacher/lecturer. Awesome powerpoints. She made Microbio fun, interesting, manageable (gives extra credit). I took the accelerated summer timeline so it was a lot of work, but I put in the time and learned so much. She really prepared me for A+P. Wish I could have her for every class! Thank you Suzy!
I'm taking her right now but this is for the people who are thinking to take her, don't think just TAKE HER! I already took micro and she explained stuff way more understandable. She's funny, caring and GIVES you the resources to pass this class. 4 exams, 1 drops, extra credit, no DB and small quizzes. Best professor ever, sad she's leaving!
Suzy is a fantastic professor who cares about her students' success. The class is challenging but she provides excellent resources, including practice tests and extra credit. Unstuck ai was also a big help for my study prep.
She was consistently unapproachable & dismissive, making it nearly impossible to ask questions, seek clarification w/ assignments. Her lectures felt disorganized.Constructive feedback was non-existent, and her attitude often came across as condescending, which made the course unnecessarily stressful. I would not recommend.
Professor Mathis is awesome and is probably my favorite professor at ACC. She absolutely wants her students to succeed, and she loves microbiology! She is passionate about teaching and therefore, is a hard grader. She gives students many opportunities for extra credit as well as gives multiple opportunities in lab until you get it right.
This is a challenging subject to begin with, if you don't do well on testing, she has quizzes and extra credit to help augment your score, as not everyone is a good test taker. She's funny and an excellent presenter, she loves her job, and will make you love Microbiogly as much as she does. Three years into ACC;she is one of my favorite professors!
She is the most caring and most fun professor that I've ever had the pleasure of taking! The course is lecture heavy and the exams can be a bit hard but she never makes you feel small. No longer a nursing major but I would take her again just for the hell of it! She made learning about microbiology very entertaining and digestible.
