Little wierd but good overall. Very smart/knowledgeable
A really nice guy. Very clear on material. I really enjoyed his class.
The best kind of teacher - impossible not to understand material with his stories - keeps your attention!
easy class to do well in if you do a bit of studying. He makes things interesting. He gave us a very clear example of what our term paper was supposed to look like - made it a piece of cake. Likes multiple choice. A little on the eccentric side.
Awsome instructor, one of the best I ever had. Made examples in class very clear and the exams were fair and came from his in-class notes.
excellent course! strongly recommend him for psyc101. he's kinda geeky but SUPER NICE. During class, he talks a lot about dopes and sex.. VERY INTERESTING.
A little on the geeky side but extremely nice. One of the best teachers i've had. Class was more or less easy(just need to study a little) he kept things interesting, i would suggest him for students just starting to get into univ, nice transition prof
one of the best profs I have ever had. very clear, thorough and knowledgeable. can always create interest and it is nice to have a prof finally test on what is lectured about in class!
how can you not like a teacher who walks into doors to show a lack of kinesthesis. very interesting and love the fanny pack!
Sven's stories make class interesting and provide very clear examples of the material. Quirky, but that's part of the fun. Excellent prof for a first year student. I strongly recommend him.
At first I wasn't so sure about this class but now I love it. It's getting really interesting and he tells lots of stories that are awesome to hear. If you study for tests you will do well.
I love this guy! Very interesting lectures, especially if you like things a bit on the eccentric side as I do.
Most classes i was reduced to tears laughing by Sven's vivid portrayals of how people would act is afflicted with various psychologocal disorders. Best teacher i have ever had in other respects too. Such smooth legs. I wonder if he knows hes funny or not?
Extremely funny and brilliant man. I love his teaching style and I love that he is shy and a little askward. He is a great teacher with really funny stories. You have to really know your stuff for exams, but he makes what he expects of you VERY clear. I would definetly recommend him.
what a good hearted man. he is really understanding when it comes to his students and goes out of his way to make sure everyone is satisfied. great organization, love the powerpoint.
a really great prof - funny, articulate, knows his stuff. one of ucfv's best.
He's extremely tall. But I hated the class with a passion. I'm not sure why. I liked the powerpoints and the ease of everything he was teaching, but Sven seemed like kind of a recluse. Was not very approachable.
Great instructor. I highly recommend him. Good hearted man with a good sense of humor. Tries very hard to be the best teacher he can, and it shows. One of the best.
Sven's an amazing instructor. He is a very educated, witty, warm hearted man. Also has a great sense of humor. He loves his course, and teaches it with passion. Time in his class flies by so fast! I highly recommend him, his class was unreal :)
he is so quirky! It makes the class a little bit less dull.
Sevn is an amazing teacher and full of interesting stories. Enjoy!
He is AWESOME! Take his courses! He's got awesome stories. He's totally clear and concise. He stays on topic and is clear on what you need to know for tests and quizzes. Fair marker, too.
Really Good Teacher. Very funny and always has an interesting story to tell. Quizzes are easy as long as you study. There's something nerdy about him and yet he seems very confident in his teaching abilities! Highly recommend!!
sven is an unreal teacher his tests are super easy as long as you study for them (mostly multiple choice) gives you one paper to write three quizzes out of ten a midterm and a finalhad the text book is pretty important though as all of his notes are straight out of the text you dont even need to write anything down just highlight everything
Brutal. The course is so boring and he makes it even more boring and he goes off topic all the time. his midterm was brutal. memorize the textbook and his notes and you'll probably do ok. dont' bother trying to understand concepts, just memorize.
I really enjoy his classes and find that I always learn a lot. His exams are difficult... but it is possible to do very well with effort. He is an educator, not just a teacher, and tries to pass along his enthusiasm for knowledge which I find very appealing.
I decided to minor in Psychology after taking one of Sven's classes. He's a really good teacher, very confident, very smart, and very nice. His lectures are directly from the textbook. He generally takes all his questions on quizzes and tests from his lecture notes. However, the text is really good for clarification. You will learn ALOT!
Sven is a nice man, but he needs to be show more interest in the topics he discusses. He should encourage class participation and open the floor to class discussions. It may be that he is more enthusiastic in upper level psyc. courses. I found psyc. 101 boring for the most part which is unfortunate.
One of my favourite professors. Hope I get more classes with him in the future.
He is a reasonable professor. His tests are based on the textbook. You will do fine as long as you study. However, this is not a super super easy course.
Sven's class was awesome, I learned a lot and remembered a lot because in class he uses so many examples that really stuck with me till the final exam. If you take detailed notes, show up for class, and review the text, the tests are EASY! Loved the examples!
Interesting. Clear instructions and notes. Easy tests. Love the fanny pack.
Sven is one of the most memorable profs i have ever encountered or will ever encounter. he is so sweet, funny (not sure if it is on purpose), and tells great stories. he is very personal and sensitive. his assignments are based from the textbooks so just read and study!
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!! Sven is the reason I'm getting a minor in psych. He is an amazing teacher! You have no reason to skip class & if you show up & write down all of the lecture then you probably won't even have to crack the book. 101 was horrible but I'm glad I made it to 102 since it was well worth the pain. He is one of the best profs EVER!
Environmental Psyc was VERY boring. I like Sven as a teacher (had him for psyc 101) but my class was the first ever environmental psyc class and still needs some work. He didn't even like the material he has to teach. Anyway, very dull and boaring. He said he is going to write his own textbook, then the course may be better. Good teacher though.
Seemingly nice but makes rude comments about previous students. Calls students morons and rants about their grammatical errors. He marks papers and exams ridiculously hard. He told us even though the midterm marks were high it couldn't be because this class was smarter. He's all about the stats, if the midterm is high he slaughters the papers.
This has been one of my favourite psychology professors since being in university. He is VERY clear about what his guidelines and what he expects of you. I also find his classes fairly easy (a huge part of that is due to his organization). :) Definitely recommend!
Sven is great! He is passionate about what he is lecturing on and very intelligent. He has fairly high expectations and is a bit of a hard marker, but he's such a nice and interesting guy I just enjoy taking his classes.
Sven was hands-down my favorite prof last semester. He had a very structured teaching style and only required you to write one paper and three quizzes and two exams - the rest of the time was spent on lecture. He didn't use the text but I found it helpful to supplement his lectures. He gave real-life examples for everything & was very dryly funny.
tests super hard, have to remember the text work for word. notes are main points then you have to search for the material in the text and he will pull any little point out of the text. worst textbook ever, no point in taking the class, two students got marks in the 80's everyone else was bellow
Sven is a great prof! Take at any chance! He's quirky and hilarous. Loved his lectures, and exams were easy if you study. Will take again any chance i have.
LOVED the fanny pack and shorts in the dead of winter.A very nice man who loves his family a lot. A little nervous but overall a great prof. Relaxed class room environment, attendance not mandatory but certainly helps.
Sven is amazing! He is somewhat awkward, but it's clear that he loves his job. He explains the material really well and his midterm and final were both fairly easy. Great professor!
Sven is really clear teacher, I really love his teaching style and his awesome stories about his family. However if you're looking for an easy upper level Psych you're in the wrong place. You must know every detail from the notes to do good on midterms and he has practically no guidelines for any assignment. Tough but really fair and understanding
Favorite PSYC prof! Really wants to see his students succeed. This class has some really tough material, but Sven makes it as clear as possible. He really knows his stuff inside and out, and welcomes you to ask him for help/feedback if needed. This class is not an easy A, but it is possible if you study his notes very thoroughly- very fair.
probably the nicest man you will ever meet! kinda awkward but makes jokes about it loves his family talks about them a lot. VERY intelligent another prof told our class he has an IQ score in the 900 range!very clear with what he expects very helpful if you go to class and study for exam you will be fine he doesnt try to trick you
Sven is an awesome professor! Really funny, kinda awkward, and always wears shorts, even on the coldest of days. He is very clear, and has an amazing lecture voice.
Incredibly boring, hard to follow. Might be alright for a lower level class but avoid upper levels with Sven! When almost the whole class did miserably on the midterm he said it wasn't the test it was us, because previous classes had done better. Run away!
Sven is a genius, pretty relaxed, and accommodating, but I notice some students take advantage of this--he doesn't appreciate it when you come in late to his class. I actually found his quizzes to be hard, but the written assignments were pretty easy. No group work or presentations. He tells funny stories. Would take a class with him again.
First, this man is a genius, and I don't just mean that colloquially. You likely need to be interested in the course material to enjoy his lectures. He is tough but fair; take good notes and you'll do fine. Extremely approachable and kind. Also he loves when you ask questions in class.
Sven is a nice guy his lectures tend to be long and a bit boring. He knows his material well which is good and he is a genius. He most topics to himself which makes it a bit more fun.
Sven is extremely approachable in and out of class to ask questions. He is brilliant, and lectures with just a few notes to go off of. Get ready to write like crazy to get all his knowledge down. Posts the slides before class, but you definitely need to take notes in class. Very kind, quite funny, truly cares about learning. His exams are fair.
Sven made it easy to take details notes of his lectures. All the interesting details during the lectures helps with remembering the information needed for the exams
Sven is adorable. He reminds me of Sheldon Cooper, but psych instead of physics. Very reading heavy, and a fair marker - but he does not give out high marks. Listen to his stories.
Sven knows the concepts in depth and explains them well. His tests are based on his lectures notes so don't need textbook. If you take good notes then you will be fine. His lectures are always long though as he talks slow and takes him time explaining things so don't expect to leave after 2 hours for a 3 hour class. He is a really tough marker.
Great personality! Lectures are a waste of time and is irrelevant to the course itself. Exam written questions are provided ahead of time. 1 Midterm, 1 cumulative final. Exams are straight from all the readings, which you have to write reflections on prior to every lecture (15%). Not the easiest marker, but not unfair. Great guy, boring course.
If you want to waste 3 hours every week, Svens classes are the way to go. He talks about himself and his family and can barely manage to get through ten slides in three hours. Just brutal. He rants on and on about his new electric car and brags about having it every chance he gets. 2 papers with little to no criteria, hard marker with no feedback.
Sven is the most disorganized prof at UFV. This class was just a handful of students and Sven managed to make the whole class (seminar) all about himself. He likes to be the smartest person in the room and its obvious. Terrible experience, a lot of reading. Makes you read his own book... how full of yourself can you be. Avoid.
Sven expects a ridiculous amount of work from students. He assigns lots of long readings and marks very hard. For this class he expects students to complete weekly exercise questions, weekly discussion board participation, a book review, a term paper, a midterm and a final. It ends up being very overwhelming and leaves you feeling hopeless.
Im taking this class as an online class and the expectations are insane. Theres weekly readings, PowerPoints that are not helpful in helping to understand the material, weekly discussion posts and assignments, a paper, and book review. There was no study guide for the midterm. Im spending 12+ hours a week reading and trying to understand.
Expects so much out of students with weekly readings, exercises, and discussion posts. On top of a book review, term paper, midterm and a final. The book for the book review was 500 pages and was due within the first month of the class. The readings are extremely difficult to comprehend and he doesn't summarize them at all in his lecture material.
Sven has no online classes for his first semester online, we had mini-readings PowerPoint, mini quiz and a paragraph paper each week todo. Sounds like a lot but it's really not. If you're motivated you can do it all in a day. It was all really easy, but he marks hard for the midterm and Exam, so you need to know your stuff. Office hours open a lot.
I took this class because he had good ratings prior to this semester - maybe he's great in person but taking an online course with him was TERRIBLE. He has a huge list of articles to read and he does not go over them - they are so difficult to understand. The MT was SO long and he is a tough grader. ZERO help on anything and overall just not good.
I loved taking Cultural Psychology with Sven. There were small exercises due each week, an easy way to get good marks for 40% of the grade. Exams are open-book and short answer in the online format. I found him to be a very fair marker, especially for upper-level. The course is fascinating, and Sven is a responsive prof who wants you to do well.
This is the third class I have taken with Sven, and in each one he has been great and cares for the success of his students. Lectures area always interesting and he brings in personal stories, which is great as it allows for connection with the class. He may come across as a little reserved, he truly does care for the students. Would take again.
I took Sven for psych. 101 and really enjoyed his class. I found his lectures surprisingly interesting, he really tries to keep his students engaged by telling jokes and personal stories. We where given weekly quizzes(10MCQ) after every chapter. I was disappointed that Sven isnt teaching psych. 102, Id definitely recommend taking this class!
Very heavy on lectures that are not very captivating. He didn't give us a rubric or grading criteria for the one paper we had to do, just an example paper that he said was not even at full marks. Regardless, he is a nice guy. Didn't make us buy the textbook and found online resources for us instead. Personally wouldn't take his course again.
Very interesting class I would recommend it to everyone, LOTS of reading but worth it. Sven is a great professor and I think I learned a lot about heuristics and critical thinking. Breath of fresh air in the sea of left-leaning profs in psych.
I have taken many classes with Sven at this point. The books he makes you read are often thought provoking and he clearly cares about what he is teaching. He doesn't want you repeating memorized stuff on tests, instead he wants you to show the stuff you have learned in a critical way. I remember the info he has taught better than most other profs.
Sven was a great prof to have and definitely made the 3 hour lectures go by quickly.
Sven is a decent prof. The history of psych is quite dense and the readings are quite heavy. He requires a weekly thought paper (easy), two papers to analyze an academic paper, term paper and a final exam which is cumulative. Last hour of class was usually reserved for a discussion. But 1/2 students would leave and we hardly ever had a full class.
This man has an obvious love for the subject, but no ability to teach it in a comprehensive or cohesive way. I wish you luck if you try to take this course with him, and enjoy a stressful semester!
Great guy, decent prof. Class had an insane amount of readings so don't take him if you don't like to read. He's nice but rambles in class which makes it take far longer than needed. Class had relatively hard tests with hundreds of terms to know. You will do poorly if you do not study. Wouldn't take again just because of the many readings.
Sven is a great person, but the way he designs his class is very odd. There are a multitude of factors as to why I did not like showing up to class, biggest among them being the long, rambling discussion only tangentially based on things we needed to know for exams. He uses the class to have a conversation, if you do not understand you are left out
408 is a mandatory course and one I dreaded taking. Fortunately Sven has the power to make any topic an interesting and thought provoking experience. 408 is a lot of reading, but Svens input in class is good at explaining the harder concepts. You should not hesitate to talk to him. 408 changed and improved how I think, hopefully it can for you
PSYC of Lang is not what you think it will be. Unless you are extremely passionate about linguistics this course will be more than bargained. Readings are hefty, and I prepared between 30 to 60 pages of study questions. I enjoyed the class anyhow, but be ready to make it priority #1 if you want to do well. Sven is great, try a different course tho.
Unfortunately, I don't think 408 is one of Sven's best courses. The material is dry and he doesn't really manage to make it interesting for students. Lectures are long and off-topic with lots of tangents. I suggest taking this with someone else.
Sven is a good person, you can tell he knows a lot about what he teaches as well. He does ramble a lot and sometimes it's hard to follow. Also putting an emphasis on extremely tough grader.
technically attendance isn't mandatory but he does give a quiz before every lecture. it's only 10 multiple choice questions and each quiz is worth 2%. as long as you've attended the lecture or took notes at home, you can easily score 7 or above. sven sometimes goes on somewhat relevant tangents :)
Yes he was difficult, but I only got C+ because I am not good at psychology. His teaching style is excellent, and he's easy to approach and promptly replies to his emails. He doesn't assign a textbook because he knows we kids are brokeee. He posts articles to read, but prefers students don't read them before class. Final exam is on everything.
Sven is a very kind, nice and intelligent. He's always ready to help and answer questions. I still didn't like the course, because he just rambles for 3 hours straight, even though he wanted to incorporate group discussions every week (never did). The final exam is over the complete course. I was able to use the older edition of the textbook.
Sven was a very silly prof. many times he would go into a story off-topic and then finally re-group back to the actual lecture. if you have never taken a psych class before this may be overwhelming at first but study is mandatory to succeed in this course.
Sven is a very sweet and funny prof, he does definitely ramble on but near the end of the semester he usually always lets the class out early which is nice
Psych 364. Lectures were BORING. Lots of short answers on tests. Class was ok for content but sven definitely didn't help enhance it. Had 2 reports, he gave 1 sentence of feedback on both. No learning objectives so hard to focus. Cumulative exam on 150 pages of notes.
took him my first sem, fumbled the grade cuz i had trouble with retention BUT overall nice guy. i learnt all the material in one night tbh lmao and got like a 88-90% or soemthing on the final exam (easy money)which was 100 questions (majority multiple choice). just study his lectures and youll be good! if i retook, its an easy A
Soooo erm (You will get that if you take him). He is very passionate and knowledgeable but Im sorry... so boring. By the end of the semester we were all leaving after the break. The actual grading and assignments are pretty easy though if you do all the weekly tests and do the reading.
Sven is a great professor! Sven tells stories about his personal life and enjoys what he does. He does go off on tangents but it helped me remember the course content in a meaningful way. Sven recognizes that he's human and discusses his personal life with the class, further building rapport. I would take Sven again!
Sven is a legend. Although the content for 408 was sometimes dry, and he went on many tangents (off-topic sometimes, but usually related to the material and helped solidify it for me), Sven is personable, brilliant, and caring. His exams can be challenging, but the final was almost entirely subjective, encouraging obscure and unique answers.
(psyc364) His teaching style didn't help as lectures were vague and slow, making it hard to focus. He's nice and an easy marker but still, u need to try hard in this class. Our final grade is based only on 4 things (2 of them exams) which in my opinion made it harder. good luck if u are not interested in environmental issues
