Such a nice lady. Very helpful. It's easy to pass; just go to class and take good notes. She is very passionate about what she teaches.
She is such a nice lady. Explained the material very well. I got Cs on every test, and I still got an A in the class. Recommended!!
very nice lady, sometimes a little hard to understand, but writes everything down. overall good experince
She is a very nice lady. She tries very hard to break the language barrier and willing to explain things several times for the entire class to understand. I highly recommend her. You must attend class and take good notes!
One of my favorite teachers! She always was available to help outside of class. As long as you go to class and take notes, it is very easy to do well.
Very nice lady! ALways willing to help. A little hard to understand sometimes but not unbearable. Use the study guides and take notes in class and you will do fine on the tests. Make sure you go to class, the clicker questions really help your grade!!!!
The lady is boring...she jumps around from thign to thing and doesnt explain everything to the full extent so when she mentions it again ...you dont knwo what it is still, theres gotta be a better bio teacher
She tries very hard to make sure that everyone understands, but she was completely overpowered by our large class. People would talk loudly during her lectures and she'd just keep teaching. She tends to over-explain the obvious and not explain the complex material. Lectures were basically useless for me.
She is fairly easy to understand, but extremely inarticulate. She does not appear to prepare for class very much at all. The slides and notes are almost verbatim from the text book, but she takes attendance with clickers almost every class. None the less, because it's all out of the book, the tests are very easy with some studying.
she is sometimes completely incorrect in what she is teaching
This class is not very entertaining, and she is hard to understand at times. She seems to connect with certain students, but not me.
This is a tough class. The science professors at WVU have to be somewhat demanding, afterall they are training future doctors, nurses, biologists & chemists. Dr. Salihu is a wonderful educator of biology. I found her very engaging and supportive. Tests were comprehensive but you learned a great deal from her.Online tests helped. Thanks, Dr. Salihu
Well I can't say the class is hard but it took everything in my power to sit through it twice a week. She knows what she is talking about but doesn't do a very good job teaching it. I learned more in the lab than in this class. She will spend an hour on one topic and put 1 test question on it then 5 minutes on another and 5 test questions, good luck
easy to understand. repeat the information more than once (somtimes twice).
nice lady but impossible to understand. she would jump from slide to slide. if you have questions, see her during office hours. NOT class.
Boring but easy clicker quizes. Tests are hard
She isn't that hard to understand, and she honestly cares whether or not you succeed, which is more than some. Tests are easy and fair as long as you pay attention.
Okay..One you cannot understand her..two she will not answer your questions unless you go to her office hours..and three she goes wayy to fast and just assumes you know it
worst teacher ever. if you have to take bio go for another professor she is unhelpful, hard to understand, boing and relays on clicker quizzes.
Dr. Sydha Salihu is an awesome teacher. She will answer questions during class and make sure you understand the answer. She also offers loads of extra credit. Just go to class and you will understand everything.
need to focus other wise you'll become lost and bored...
I loved this class and decided to take bio 102, because of this teacher. She was very interested in the success of her students
Very hard to understand (from India. Painfully boring. She doesn't know half of the material that she is teaching. Pronounces words weird because of her accent (again from India).
This is your prof for an A. The class was a joke, I studied for the first 2 tests, got well over 100% with extra credit, then blew off the rest. You do need to go to class to get participation points(with clicker). If you want to learn, go elsewhere;I found her to be lacking in knowledge. She also talks down to the class like they are in high school.
Great
This prof was awful. everyone on here who had her for 101 had a completely different experience. i had her for 101 and again for 102 and she was awful. she is hard to understand and spelled a lot wrong. super confusing and difficult.
Talks to the class like we were in elementary school still. English was understandable but only to an extent. Big accent since she is from India. Exams are tough but fair I'd say, however it seemed like everything she put on the study guides and half of the test she never taught.
she is pretty hard to understand & show goes fast through the powerpoints. she said to print them off from ecampus but they were different than the slides she used in class. i had a 100% in attendance 7 a 95% in homework, so that part wasnt hard. but her exams are very difficult & from the exams i ended up with a 69.5% in the class & wouldnt round
hard to understand. lacking in knowledge. talks to you like you're in middle school. confuses herself which ultimately confuses the class. awkward grading system. lots of extra credit opportunities but not the class to take it if you want to learn. blows through powerpoints too fast. not the best.
Although she has a strong accent, if you print out the slides from online she is easy to follow along with. her tests are extremely easy, because all of her questions come from the slides and clicker questions. my average test score was a 107 due to the multitude of extra credit questions. go to class and read the book and you will get an A.
Dr. Salihu is such a great teacher. She is always willing to reexplain material when someone doesn't understand it. Her tests are extremely easy as long as you study your notes. Her accent is NOT hard to understand at all. She's a sweet woman with a good heart. She made me love biology, which I never had an interest in. Definitely take her class!
If this isn't your one & only class of the semester do NOT take her. Acts like Biology is your only class & loads you up on homework & studying. You have to attend class because of clicker questions even though she expects you to read the book & pretty much teach yourself & expects that everyone has a basic knowledge of bio like her, TAKE THOMAS!
Hard to understand. Test are hard and clicker points are only awarded if you get the corky answer
GREAT class; professor Salihu's accent is slightly difficult to get past at first, but she will go out of her way to make sure that students understand all material and are well-prepared for exams. Salihu likes students to take notes, but posts most important points online in powerpoint presentations for the class. Overall, a WONDERFUL professor.
My favorite class! You can do very well as long as you keep up with the assigned readings. I would suggest her to anyone and she keeps the class very interesting by relating it to videos and current events.
Worst professor at wvu
Sydha is horrible. You can't understand what she's saying her test have nothing to do with lectures and she treats everyone like bio is their only and favorite class find another professor this is a easy class but she makes it hard.
Even in a 200-400 person class, Dr. Salihu quickly becomes aware of who is there to learn and who is there solely for participation points. I found her easy to understand and learned a lot in her class. I was also surprised that I enjoyed learning about biology.
Teacher has no idea whats going on. EMENSE technical difficulties in class, she is unable to teach class without technology. STRONG Indian accent, makes it extremely difficult to understand.
If you print off the power point notes you"ll be fine. Her test reviews are very helpful and she talks about everything that is on the test, you just have to pay attention. She does have an accent but she is still easy to understand.
She was very nice. Hard to understand at times and not always clear. Class was boring. She was clicker questions so you kinda have to go. Tests were do-able if you study. Class is challenging.
I would recommend her to anyone. Her tests come straight from her powerpoints that she gives you and she always uses activites in class to give u extra points on her tests. You have to go to class to get the clicker points, but other than that she is a great teacher!
Great teacher. She takes time to explain everything throughly, and makes charts and graphs to help you remember tough information. Tests are pretty simple and she gives you study guides and 5-10 points extra credit for every test. Attendance is mandatory, due to clicker questions, but they are easy as well. Accent is hard to get used to at first.
Salihu is a good teacher, but the material is boring so not a lot can be done. Accent really is not that hard to understand. If you cant understand her you should probably stay in whatever small town you are from. Tests suck because answers can be tricky, but if you go to class you'll be fine. No homework, just a few quizzes before test.
Great professor. Everything she taught was on the exams. Not too hard
Great teacher, always helpful, makes test very clear, if you go to class and take notes. Give out extra credit points as well, which go towards exams
I always printed off the power points she uploaded to the internet, and took notes on them. Made note taking extremely easy.
She is a nice teacher but she spends more of lecture time talking about how to take notes than the actual material. Her lectures are not cohesive and she jumps around. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you want to get participation points and do well on the test you need to go. Also need to read book. Nice teacher, poor teaching technique
Very nice and helpful. Clicker questions are done every class so attending would be smart. Knows her stuff and knows how to explain everything clearly so that everyone understands.
Dr. Salihu is amazing! She is a great professor, teaches well, and if you show up to class and do all your work, tests are a breeze. She really knows her stuff and is very helpful, especially when you go out of your way to seek help. Go to her office hours; she'l o with you one on one and help you to understand everything! Take her class!!!!!!!
Dr. Salihu is by far the easiest biology 101 teacher. She's very easy to understand and she gives plenty of opportunity for bonus points!
This teacher is very difficult to understand. She doesn't respond to e-mails and does not provide any useful feedback. Her review sessions consist of her saying, "look it up". I would not recommend her to anyone.
Biology is required for most majors and she realizes that not many people are truly interested in biology. With that said, she does a good job of making the class as painless as possible. There is rarely ever homework and when there is, it's just an online quiz that you have 3 attempts at. She gives lots of extra credit in class!
Her tests are not easy and she isn't always clear on her words. I would not recommend her to anyone.
Dr. Salihu is awesome. Her tests are a bit tricky, but if you take the time to review other than the night before you can do well on them. She gives plenty of chances to get extra credit in class so attend class!
Salihu is an awesome teacher! I hear a lot of people complain that they can't understand her but that's usually the kids that sit all the way in the back and talk most of the time. She really knows her stuff and does a great job explaining everything. Go to class for clicker points and extra credit opportunities. Definitely recommend!
Makes material easy to understand.. gives plenty of bonus!
She checks attendance through the iclicker. Her class is easy if you attend, listen, and take notes. You barely use the textbook. She teaches to the test. She's helpful and understanding if you approach her AFTER class.
She was awesome. GO TO THE LECTURES! If you pay attention you'll pass with an A easily.
She is absolutely terrible hard to understand and her tests have nothing to do with the tests
Absolutely terrible, do not take her class
Terrible. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! You can't understand her and she never teaches to the test. Her class was biggest mistake at WVU. Save yourself the trouble and fail
Dr. Salihu is a great professor. She puts powerpoint slides on ecampus, tests are not bad if you study. She is always reviewing material and welcomes students to her office hours.
Hardest class ive ever taken. She didn't even make sense. I felt like her lectures were pointless but, def go to class because her clicker "quizzes" are important!!
I'm not sure why all the reviews are so negative. I took her for Bio and I showed up and studied the power-points she posts online and got an A on every test. Extremely easy. Accent is hard to understand at first, but you can get used to it pretty quickly
She is absolutely amazing and totally clear. She has inspired me to pursue a career in the biological sciences! Thank you Dr. Salihu!
I took Dr. Salihu for Bio 101 and Bio 104. She was by far the best professor I have ever had. She is very willing to help you if you go to office hours and ask for help. Her tests are usually fair but you have to study and read the book. She tries her best to explain everything in detail and really does care about her students.
Class was rather tricky. She will often draw diagrams that don't make sense at all and she does it literally every class. There are also alot of in-class and homework assignments. Reading your textbook is essential to passing.
She always provided a great sense of humor with each lecture. Her explanations of material was always easy to grasp!
Salihu really demonstrates content well. She teaches the lecture to fit all learning types. She draws things out, has power points, and does activities relating to the material. She also makes study guides before exams that really help. She also gives extra credit.
I learned a lot in this class and there was nothing really hard about it. Yeah, she asks you to read a few chapters before the next lecture and it's ideal that you show up to class, but it's college. If you're having trouble or you have a question, she has no problem staying behind or having a meeting to discuss. She is a great teacher.
dr. salihu was really helpful. she was always available during office hours and VERY patient. her study guides were exactly like the test. she post power points on encamps if you must miss class. however, she does a lot of clicker questions so its important to go to class. i took good notes and studied the study guide and got A's on all her test
GO TO CLASS! Even though her slides are online you need to write down what she says. She also gives lost of chances to boost your grade like clicker questions and small assignments. Just go to class and you'll do fine.
She is very hard to underdstand, the clicker questions usually don't make sense, and do not even pertain to what we are learning in class.
She was a good teacher, she was very passionate about teaching. If you study the slides you will get a good grade on the tests. She also gives quite a bit of in class activities so be ready for that. Usually she uses the points earned in the activities as extra credit on the test. Nice lady
I took this as part of my GEC 2 requirement and would definitely recommend it to others. It was an easy class, even for those not interested in science (like me). One thing I noticed is that reading the textbook helped me a bit on the tests. I didn't read it for the first unit, but read it for the second unit and my score dramatically improved.
Always available if you need extra help or if you need her to explain something after class. If you don't plan on attending every class don't take this class because you'll fall behind very quickly and miss a lot of in class points. Overall I enjoyed this class and really felt like I learned the material.
I had to retake her class because there was no way I was going to pass. I realized that if you are in her class, GO TO OFFICE HOURS. ALWAYS. maybe once after each class so she can explain materials to you. She has an extremely thick accent and can definitely be hard to understand at times. She is so knowledgeable and such an amazing woman though.
Her accent is very distracting. She does not give you enough time to take notes before switching slides. She moves very quickly and does not explain things in depth. You basically have to teach yourself.
At first, she was hard to understand because of her thick accent. Go to class because she does clicker quizzes that can help boost your grade. Also, she is there during office hours and tells you about tutoring opportunities. She gives study guides and test are right from them. Not too much homework, just online quizzes that are easy.
Attendance is very important. The clicker quizzes are a good part of the grade and you can't make them up. Sit near the front of the class because a lot of in-class examples appear on the exams. Pay attention, show up, do the online homework and study for the exam and you'll get a good grade. If you need help she is very helpful during office hours
Her study guides have absolutely nothing to do with the tests so don't waste your time. I am a biology major and she made it more confusing than it actually is. her powerpoint are copied and pasted from the book, she does not respond to emails and she makes it clear. not a good professor, hard to understand, not helpful, stay away.
Let me start by saying that I am absolutely terrible at any type of science. But with that being said I am doing just fine in this course. This teacher is the sweetest and is willing to help anyone with whatever. If you go to her for help you will come out understanding much better. She can go fast sometimes but just ask her to slow down.
Ms. Salihu is so sweet!! She is very eager to help and only gives u only the most essential information during lectures. She gives really helpful study guides for the tests, but if u hope to make As on the tests I recommend getting the textbook and reading the assigned sections. Attendance is not mandatory but clicker points help ur grade a lot.
I thought the class itself was kind of challenging, most everyone in it is pre-medical of some sort, and yet most of the lectures in the beginning are about plants. With that being said, if you go to office hours she is very friendly and eager to help. Read and show up and do the clickers and study and you should get at least a B.
She is a very nice teacher. She will always help you at her office hours. She takes clicker questions as quizzes so make sure you show up and try. Do the study guides she gives for exams but also go over the slides and read everything on them because it will help. Sit near the front so you can hear her better because she has an accent.
She has a thick accent and can be hard to understand at times, but she really is passionate about what she is teaching and tries hard to help everyone learn as much as they can, Clicker questions are given almost every class, so attendance is necessary, but she does post the slides online, in case you do miss a course. I really enjoyed the class.
Dr. Salihu is the kindest, sweetest professor... She genuinely cares about her students learning. She's also funny without trying to be.. One of my favorite moments in class was when someone's phone went off and she started smiling and said "Ok"
She's really sweet and funny. Clicker questions and end of class assignments can be a bit annoying but they're nice because she adds those points to your tests. She has an accent but you can still understand everything she's saying. Attendance is important because of the clicker questions.
Ms. Salihu was so sweet! I had her for biology 102 and had to leave for a week due to a death in the family and she was so understanding and helpful during that process! I would definitely take her class again if I could!
She was very helpful if you asked questions and showed interest in her class.
I just hate biology.
She was very sweet and very cute. I sat up front and paid some attention during lectures. It really helps to go to her study sessions and to study her powerpoint slides before exams. Especially the large diagrams ( ones she draws) in the slides they will probably be on the exam too.
SO EASY. Seriously, so easy. Just fill out the study guide and read it a few times, and you will get A's. If you don't understand a process, google it, and you'll be fine.
You can barely understand what she is saying. Exams are horrifically hard.
Helpful
She may be hard to understand, but she loves being asked questions during class, I would really recommend reading the material before class, even just a skim. Shes funny to engage students, and is available outside of class for a very personal study session. Tests are in depth but if you read the text and study guides you're golden.
Sydha is the kind of teacher you want in all your classes. If you show up and pay attention half the time you will get an A. Tests are very easy, with the opportunity for extra credit.
Very tough class but the more I studied the better i did, plus if you take your time on homework and clicker questions you'll get easy points. A LOT of content and hard class. Try another professor if you can, Salihu is very respectable but she tends to speed through lectures and be vauge. Exams are all off of the power point lectures
hard to understand, clicker points are a big part of your grade
She puts too much emphasis on just showing up to class. The tests would be easy if she gave us a clear understanding of what to study. There is too much information to take in. Would not recommend if you aren't a genius.
Dr Salihu is great, bio is typically a heavy and boring course, so she tries to make it as interesting as possible. In 102 you learn about plants for the first half of the semester, those tests are hard. Once you move onto humans, the tests get easy. 25 points a day just for showing up. If you skip class, you'll lose a ton of points.
Great teacher! Although most people tend to seem to automatically know the material, but this is not the case with her. Be prepared to read a few pages every other night, study, and go to her office hours and you will pass. Also show up to class cause participation is worth a lot.
She really made the course work interesting. She was always clear about exactly what material was going to be on the test, which made it easy to study. There were a lot of opportunities to earn points (a lot of attendance points, homework points, and extra credit questions on tests). Just listen to her lecture and study on your own and you're good.
Professor Salihu is very passionate about biology. She loves when students have questions and take advantage of her office hours. She is very clear and helpful during that time. However, during lectures she tends to rush through the slides and get carried away and move very quickly. I highly recommend reading the sections assigned before each class
Dr Salihu was a solid teacher. Only negative thing I can say is that she grades clicker questions by correctness and not by participation. Be sure to read before classes and pay attention in lecture because of in-class activities/quizzes. Before tests, take advantage of study guides but also read over provided powerpoints (source of test questions)
If I saw I had Salihu again I would drop the class. She grades your clicker participation points by correctness so you really have to pay attention. Make sure to always print the slideshows, its so important because you can't catch everything while she talks.
Go to class, get your clickers correct and do the homework. Very easy class same with her 102 bio. WRITE DOWN HER CLICKER QUESTIONS! she uses them on the exam! Study the homework and study guides. Its hard not to get an A.
Dr. Salihu is such a sweet woman! She has a true passion for teaching, and she was there when I needed help outside of class. Took Bio 101 and 102 with her, and if I needed more Bio, I'd choose her! I always recommend her to my friends.
Best professor by far. Wonderful teacher who is willing to go the extra mile to help students.
She gives 20 points for clicker quizzes and attendance. If you don't attend the class you better be Acing all her exams because that is the only way you'll pass. She talks very fast and her office hours are not at all helpful
Salihu is hard to understand and sometimes doesn't actually know what she is talking about. I have sat through other Bio 101 lectures and found out she teaches more to some classes than she does to others. There are activities and clicker questions most of the classes that can keep your grade up just enough to pass so attendance is a must!
Still one of my favorite professors at WVU. The power points give you everything you need to study for the exams. She's really sweet and knows her subject matter really well. If I needed more biology, I'd take her again for sure.
Salihu will make you work for it, if you pay attention in class and take good notes you'll do fine. I had her for BIO 101 and 102. She does go much more in depth then most other professors but she wants you to understand the material. Fill out the study guides. You can't BS your way through the class. SHOW UP!!! Clicker points are EVERYTHING
She may be hard to understand to a few people but she is an amazing professor. You have clicker questions every day so attendance matters. She gives you several opportunities to get points and really does care about your grade. She has the old science teacher dry humor which makes the class a little funny.
Took Bio 101 as a GEF for non-majors. Super sweet lady, very straightforward about material and goes more in depth to allow for her students to fully understand concepts. Make sure you go to class, because you get a lot of extra easy points for clicker questions/attendance activities, and she fills in blanks on notes posted to eCampus.
Absolutely amazing professor. Great with lectures and explaining difficult concepts. Best biology professor I've had!
She is a nice person. Might be hard to understand at first, her powerpoints do not have alot of information on them, so its hard to study for exams. recommend taking laptop to class and haivng the powerpoints open and writing extra notes underneath. she gives out a lot of extra points, good if you do bad on an exam. all her online hw is on quizlet
This class is easy to pass if you put a decent amount of effort into it and attend the lectures. Just knowing terms wont get you very far because she puts an emphasis on the understanding behind just the definition. As far as professors go i felt as if she was rather easy going and approachable.
Sydha Salihu was a wonderful professor. I took her for 101 this semester and also took her honors add-on course. She is truly a saint and I highly recommend her.
Dr. Salihu cares about her students and is a great professor. She explains all her powerpoint throughly and even posts extra resources on ecampus to help us study. Tests are tough but luckily she has a study guide of questions to help prepare.
She gives you the power points but they have little to no information on them. She does have an accent so that takes getting use too. Lectures are boring. GO TO CLASS, participation/ clicker points can make or break your grade. if you fail a test or 2 you can still pass.
Very good at her lectures. She grades clicker points by correctness instead of participation so you need to pay attention. She has an accent so it's a little difficult to understand her but you get use to it. She's really nice and if you pay attention and do the readings/study guides, you should be fine
Sydha Salihu does an excellent job at teaching biology and will give you an honest grade. Come to class. She does clicker questions every lecture for points which really ends up helping your grade. If you do miss class, she posts the powerpoints on eCampus so you have the information even if you don't go. She even posts study guides for exams.
Dr. Salihu is a very sweet lady but a lot of the points in her class are dependent on the exams. If you don't do well on the exam, you won't do well in the class. The clicker questions are worth a decent amount of points, so go to class. Also the tests contain very specific examples from class that aren't in the online notes, so you have to go.
the class isn't that hard but she is very boring and the material is very boring so it is hard to pay attention. She is kind of unorganized but if you study everything you gives you you'll do fine on exams. You also get a lot of points just for going to class
Easiest bio class I have ever taken. If you took AP bio in high school then you are straight. Her study guides and PowerPoints are literally so straight forward, and thats what her tests are on. She can be a little unclear at times, but I highly recommend to just put your phone down in this class and just listen.
I had a difficult time following some of the subjects because she tends to jump around in slides. At first, I had great difficulty even following the slides because she would click through them so fast. She gives up to 20 points for clicker questions so show up. Tests tend to have things that we've never gone over and arent in our textbooks.
Dr. Salihu is a great professor and is super sweet and easy to approach. While attendance isn't mandatory, if you go to class and do the homework, you can get some easy points. The tests aren't very hard. If you read the book, pay attention in class, and do the study guides, then you should do great.
Dr. Saluhu is the best professor I have ever had. She is very approachable and clear during her lectures. There is nothing bad to say about her or her course, which was super easy while still teaching the students a lot.
One of the best professors that I have ever had, and I learned a lot in this course. At first, it takes a couple weeks to get use to her accent. She grades clicker questions on correctness, instead of participation so must pay attention. At times she goes fast, but other times she slows down and explains the big topics well. Highly recommend.
Dr. Salihu is a terrific professor! Exam questions are from the notes & there are bonus questions & activity points added to boost your exam score. I would highly recommend coming to class as she counts clicker questions and class activities. Helpful powerpoints and study guides are provided. Textbook used to preview lecture (not really needed)
She is an amazing professor! Her tests are mostly straight from the slides, so if you go to class and pay attention, she tells you everything you need to know. She uses clickers for participation so you do have to go to class.
Prof. Salihu's class is the most straight forward Science class I have ever taken. She offers help whenever a student is confused. She really seems to care about what she is teaching. At the end of the day just try to understand the topics. Her exams are slightly conceptual but if you have a pulse you will retain the information from her slides.
Great professor- she does a great job of making biology accessible to everyone- even non-majors. She includes tons of real-life examples, and each test has about 9 percentage points of possible extra credit. Participation and homework also account for a good bit of the grade, so even if you get a C average on the exams, you can still get an A.
very long lectures, not very clear. Test are way harder than homework. Must do most of the teaching yourself outside of class
She is super sweet and adorable! She actually cares if everyone is passing and wants you to go to her office and ask questions. The exams aren't too hard if you study, I hardly studied for some and got C's on them. Make sure to read the book before class because of clicker questions for points, 2 if wrong 3 if right.
Humble and explains thoroughly. Includes visuals
Her lectures arent very clear and the content is tough. she isnt very compassionate and is a boring professor.
I loved this class! I found it very easy. The textbook is not required but I used it a lot outside of class. She does not take attendance but there are clicker questions so I would not recommend skipping class too often. Her exams were pretty easy and she often added some extra credit points.
I was extremely nervous to take this class but found it to be my most enjoyable class this semester. She is a very good teacher and prepares you extremely well for the exams but you have to go to class and take good notes. I used the textbook at the beginning of the semester but her tests are based off the powerpoints and notes she gives you.
Professor Salihu was one of the better biology teachers I had. Make sure you go to class because some of the test questions are straight from her lecture. Overall, I did all my work and made sure it was on time so I did very well.
Dr. Salihu is a wonderful professor who really cares about her students. She focuses a lot on applying the content she teaches, which I think makes the class really interesting and is really helpful for anyone hoping to go into nursing or medicine. There's tons of extra credit, and it's easy to get as long as you show up to class.
I liked Dr. Salihu, but her lectures were very boring. It was very difficult to pay attention. The only reason I got an A was because I read the book before every class. She will help you if you go to her office hours, but the lecture is not helpful alone. Her exams are more difficult than other professors'.
Dr. Salihu was an exceptional professor. Her class is difficult but she is very approachable and willing to help you as long as you do your part and participate, do your work, and come to class. This class is content heavy but she tries her best to make it interesting.
Salihu can be hard to understand in the beginning, but she is a good teacher. Bio 102 is harder than 101, but the text book is definitely not necessary. The exams are based on the lectures and she asks questions about topics she talked about in lectures. She does participation points every class. Only about 4 exams and one final.
Great professor. She is fair. Attend class because exams come directly from the PowerPoint slides. Pay attention during class because she asks Clicker questions that show up on exams (easy points) and they are worth a percentage of your overall grade. If you try you will do well in her class. I am taking her again for Bio 102.
Professor Salihu really wants to see her students succeed. She knew me by name in my 200 person lecture and would ask me what I thought of the exam and how it went whenever I turned them in. I went to her office hours one time and she was very patient with me helping me understand some material. Sit in the front. You wont regret it.
I would definitely recommend Dr. Salihu to anyone taking Biol 102. Her lectures are really interesting, and her exams are easy as long as you go to class and take good notes. The textbook isn't mandatory but it really helps if you feel yourself getting behind. Course content is cool and presented really well.
Dr. Salihu will know your name even in a 200+ person lecture. She presents material really well, and although the content can be hard, she makes it interesting and relevant for non-biology majors. Sit in the front, ask questions, and go to review sessions, and you will get an A and learn a LOT!
If you come to class, and pay attention, it should be an easy A. All of her test questions come from lecture material, so just pay attention during class. She does clicker questions during class for points, and usually there is an assignment due at the end of class (these are generally easy free points). Would 100% recommend for BIO 102.
Overall, a great biology professor. If you come to class, pay attention, and take notes, you will get an A. Definitely take advantage of her office hours and the review sessions if you want to do well on the exams.
Dr. Salihu has made it very easy to retain information throughout the semester. You will get an A if you go to/watch her lectures, do the homework, and read the specific pages in the textbook that she states in the syllabus (not a lot of reading). I have never felt burdened by the work in this class and enjoyed her personality.
Professor Salihu is probably one of the best instructors for Biology. Her content is a bit difficult but it isn't extreme. Salihu cares about her students and she makes her exams hard for those who don't try to learn the content. The only bad thing is you can almost never get ahold of her outside of class, pay attention! I would recommend the book.
Thick accent but totally doable. You do not have to go to class but if you want attendance points (really help grade at end of the semester) do the reef questions they are on the exam too. You don't need the textbook at all. Take good notes and study and you will do great.
Not a fan... This class is extremely boring and the professor isn't great about explaining the material. I'm not sure anyone in my class knew what was going on. The assignments aren't that hard and there isn't that many but the exams can be brutal. You also have to show up but the lectures don't seem to help make the material make any sense.
Sydha Salihu is a great professor. She knows what she is talking about and makes sure to keep a good pace during lectures. She cares a lot about her students and even will host review sessions for exams. This is the one class where I know several people who get A's on every exam. I even aced one and I stopped reading the textbook.
Textbook helps a little but isn't a necessity, participation is graded and there's iclicker quizzes in every class so you need to go. All info for exams is in PowerPoints and they aren't hard but you need to study a lot to get an A.
I really enjoyed this class and her as a professor! Her exams came right from the power-points and the class was heavy in participation points. She was always kind during office hours and kept class interesting and enjoyable. Class average was a 75ish for each exam. A very doable course, just don't skip class!!
Dr. Salihu is a very good professor. She's understanding and likes to be thought-provoking in her lectures.
This is my first year with Professor Salihu. She is very lecture heavy, but she is good at what she does. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is smart to go. We used the iClicker app on the phone, so when we had that we could do it at the dorm and still get participation points. I have not looked at my textbook a single time.
I loved Dr. Salihu. She is super sweet and you can tell that she loves the material that she teaches. She always makes the lessons relevant to our lives and is super engaging, and she made me enjoy going to class. If you just pay attention during the lectures and study the slides then you will be fine on her exams.
In this class, Attendance isn't mandatory, but clicker points are. Also, this class is test-heavy. Test are 65% of your grade, so Good Luck! lmao
She was a fun professor but the class itself is hard if you dont move fast like me. very exam heavy, theyre worth 65% of your grade and the questions on the exam can be very confusing and on very obscure things talked about in the lecture. Very little assignments but not in a good way, 9 homework quizzes and maybe 13 assignments
She was a super sweet professor however her lectures are extremely boring. Her exams are very difficult and very specific questions. I'm not a very good test taker and get very bad anxiety during hard test like these ones. So if youre someone like me I wouldn't take her class.
She is a great professor that cares about her students and wants them to learnicipate. Her PowerPoints are very useful.
Sydha has boring lectures but if you study her PowerPoints you should do ok on exams. Almost every exam we had she curved so if you do bad it will most likely be curved by 10%. She is very nice and really wants you to do well.
Dr Salihu has become one of my favorite professors. She works hard to make her lectures interesting/relevant even when discussing plants, bacteria, etc. Her lectures do move at a pretty good pace, so it's best to read the textbook prior to class, especially if you are unfamiliar with the topic. She is always happy to answer questions/help out
Great professor, very clear in lecture. Exams are easy if you go to lecture
Attendance is not required but definitely go to class cause if you dont then you will be lost. Also make sure to answer the clicker questions cause thats where most of your grade comes from. Make sure to get the book and do the readings otherwise you might not understand some things that she talks about.
I love Dr. Salihu. I chose to take BIO 102 with her since I liked how she taught BIO 101. This class is unnecessarily difficult, though. Information provided in lectures is completely surface-level, which is fine. Yet in exams, you are expected to have a DEEP understanding of the material. This class really defeated me.
I do not recommend this professor at all! She is very boring in lectures and does not make much sense. I went to every class and took notes every single time. Continued to fail the exams, the class average for each exam was never above a 75% so obviously i wasn't the only one and it is not the students. The homework is the only thing that saved me.
This professors exams were horrible! First Semester we (as a class) got 80-100 on our exams. With this Professor for second semester we got 45-70. The exams were horrible. I studied for days, used the textbook, and reviewed a lot. I do NOT recommend this.
Notes and class lectures are very unorganized. Not very willing to help.
I LOVED her! She's such a sweetheart and wants to make sure everyone understands the material. As long as you take notes and pay attention, studying for her class was a breeze. I would 10/10 recommend her, i literally and taking her this next semester because i think she is so great!
Attend class and pay attention and you'll pass. Review slides and take notes and the exams won't be too bad. Loved her so much that I'm taking her again next semester. She's very understanding and helpful if you reach out to her or attend office hours.
She talks very quietly and if you miss class because you were literally dying, then got a doctors note, and turned in that doctors note within 24 hours of missing class... she will still give you a 0 for the day.
Professor Salihu is amazing! You can really tell that she is passionate about her job. Her tests are essentially 100% on what her lectures are on so make sure you go to class. During class she writes and draws on her slides so even though she posts them most of the information comes from the lecture. All you got to do is go to class!
Dr. Salihu is one of the most caring professors that I have ever had. She is always willing to help if you have any questions because she really does care about you learning something. If you study the PowerPoints and the clicker questions that she releases you will get a good grade on the exams.
she will make your life hell no matter how hard you try. drop out if you have to take her.
Salihu is generally a good professor, although she can be hard to understand because she speaks fast.
Notes are very unorganized but she is a nice lady. I wouldn't take her class again though because I am such a bad test taker and the unorganized notes made it worse for me.
Best prof I had this year! She's compassionate towards her students and makes sure students understand the content she's teaching. Be prepared to buy a $60 textbook and READ IT. This class will be very difficult if you don't pay attention and/or read the book and take notes. She grades participation on iClicker but it's an easy A. Show up and read!
Dr Salihu is very intelligent but overall notes are unorganized and don't cover all the material or what is on the exams. Iclicker and attendance are very important and she will not take any excuses for missing class. Her exam reviews are also not very helpful but she does tend to curve a few questions on exams.
Dr. Salihu knows what she's talking about but her notes can get confusing because they are so disorganized. Attendance is mandatory and she doesn't take excuses for missing her class. She doesn't answer emails, she expects you to come see her during office hours or at the end of class if you have questions. iClicker is important in her class.
She isn't very clear during her lectures, and her notes are messy and make no sense half the time. I had problems with the exams my very first semester and emailed her to schedule a meeting to see my exam and how I had messed up, she just talked to me for 10 minutes about what our final exam was on and laughed at the fact that I was failing. Nope!
Dr. Salihu does a lot for her students to get a good grade and is overall a very sweet person. I put in very minimum effort towards this course, but got an A+ from completing assignments and showing up. She gave loads of extra credit onto exams and gives a 20% boost towards attendance.
I have done okay in her classes. you have to go to class to know anything that is going on, and do all of the assignments to be able to keep up with her exams. the exams are ridiculous for the most part and she rarely offers any extra credit. she is also extremely rude, yelling at students for no reason. I am tired of the disrespect from her.
Salihu's lectures were hard to understand and messy. Exams were impossible to study for and no matter how long you study you're not gonna get a good grade. She's heavy on iclickers and never responds to emails. Beware if you wanna pass.
The professor is knowledgeable, but her teaching style takes some adjusting. Attend class, take notes, and utilize resources like Unstuck AI - it really helps with exam prep. Overall, the workload is manageable if you stay on top of it.
This lady made me want to kms. Difficult to skip class because she gives I clickers every class for participation/attendance. also grades them on accuracy. her lectures are very confusing as she often goes off course and draws complicated pictures. the tests are extremely difficult and impossible to study for. try to find another prof if you can
I feel like when she teaches, she's explaining the topic in the sense that you already know what she's talking about. Heavy on iclicker, notes in lecture are not the same online, messy confusing drawings, all of her lecture material could be exam material, very difficult exams, no helpful study material, can tell she knows what she's talking about.
Professor Salihu is great! Her class is hard but nothing terrible. As long as you pay attention and study for the tests you will be fine. She does Iclicker but gives bonus points at the end of the semester for absences.
Dr. Salihu is very intelligent and clearly knows the topics she teaches. Attendance is mandatory, as she usually mentions things that will be on the exam, but arent on the given slides, and the attendance grade from iclicker. This class was fine, as long as you put in the work to review lectures and study for exams you'll do great.
Go to class, study for tests, know everything on the slide shows
I just now took my final so I'm not sure what my grade is but overall this class was pretty difficult. You must attend class, pay attention, participate, and study 24/7. She doesn't give out that many assignments but the exams are 50+ questions and very specific. But, she's so kind and very helpful. I would take it again
Dr. Salihu knows what she's talking about, but expects you to have previous knowledge about the curriculum. The class is EXTREMELY exam heavy (65% of the final grade), and her exams are not easy. The questions are very specific, and every possible answer was something that she mentioned in class, so unless you know everything, or study, good luck.
She doesn't use the same material taught in class on the exams. I used every method of studying, as well as my friends who also had her, and it's almost impossible to pass her class. I was a straight A student before having her, but sadly I can't say the same after having her.
Attendance is important for this class especially for exam prep. Exams honestly aren't that bad, but you need to study in advance, take good notes and really pay attention in class. She's helpful and wants her students to succeed. She's available after class for help. Bio is a hard subject, but she does her best to teach it so that kids understand.
As long as you go to class, take good notes, do the iclicker questions, then you should do alright. I didnt study too much and did good. The only annoying thing is that she includes some random things on exams that we talk about for like a minute. Other than that, exams are pretty straight forward and are all multiple choice.
Go to office hours. She can seem rude but if you're respectful you will realize she's pretty reasonable. Definitely study hard.
Took her class with little knowledge of biology. I really enjoyed her class and her in general. Clicker questions every lecture and they were for accuracy. I thought the exams she gave were not that difficult. As long as you memorized the lecture slides you would be fine. Easy class and very reasonable. If you apply yourself and study it'll be fine
Took this class for an elective as a CS student. Was really annoying sometimes since I do not really care about biology and you definitely have to do the work but overall, not too bad. Study the slides directly to study for exams!
I loved having her as a professor. You can tell she really cares about what she's teaching and wants everyone to do well. Even if you can't make it to class, the material is posted and easy to learn. Tests weren't too difficult.
This class was extremely hard and disorganized.
Does not use the textbook. All the information is in the PowerPoints shared. Make sure to study to iClicker and homework questions because she uses a lot of them on the exams. Overall a very sweet professor and class is easy as long as you pay attention and look over PowerPoints. Attendance is mandatory but she allows you to skip a couple classes.
Professor Salihu is an extremely kind lady, especially if you go to her office hours. But her lectures are very long, packed with so much information, it's impossible to memorize it all. And her exams are some of the most difficult I've taken in my time as a student here. This class was barely passable, and I had a 4.0 before taking this class.
