She has way too much homework

This was hands-down the hardest class I ever took. Actually, I took it 3 times. I dropped it twice. But once I was finally done, I was really proud of my work and got an A out of the course. She's demanding because she has to be, but she's very helpfu

Good class and she is a great teacher, but it was a lot of work and time consuming.

I'm amazed at the negative comments. My experience was opposite. She offered detailed responses. Though I started off with C's, she considered my progress and encouraged me to develop my ideas.I finished with an A.I learned to research in this class like no other class (took 2 other WR123classes).Instructions were clear & detailed. She's great.

I cannot over emphasis that this course simply asks for too much. Unless you give up everything else, this class will eat you alive. That said, she was extremely clear and concise about what she wanted. I worked really hard and I got an A in the course. She is tough, but I found her to be an agreeable professor overall.

I like how this class was structured to writing one paper. I took this class in high school and got a D, plus not havin written a paper in 10 years made me nervous. She was very helpful with the many questions I had. I am glad I tok this clas from her as I learned alot. She treats her class like adults and expects us to act like it as well

Darby was a very helpful and compassionate teacher when I had an emergency that made school difficult. She went out of her way to get me resources. I stuggle with writing and darby taught me so much about research and organization. She took extra time to work with me and gave me loads of feedback.

This teacher is really organized and detailed. Her office doors are always open and she's happy to gove feedback.

Sydney is a demanding teacher who holds her students to a high standard and accountable; she makes her expectations known up front. I took two classes from her and received an A in both; I earned every point I received. I also learned a tremendous amount an am very grateful I had her instruction.

I took the class online and, yes, it's a lot of work. I had never really written long essays before so when I actually put together a solid 8-pager I was so proud of myself. I couldn't have happened without her help (and lots of hard work!).

Had fun with her, lively discussion. I know some people have hard time with her, but I guess it depends whether you're willing to talk, which I am. And i did too much probably.

Darby makes you work hard. Great feedback, detailed. The class isn't over but I'm learning a lot.

Sydney was very helpful and overall understandable. I had been home-schooled my whole life and I was 17 when I went to Chemeketa which was a shock to me coming from class in my living room to an actual set class schedule and having teachers and other classmates and she helped make me feel less awkward and pushed me enough. Overall great teacher

Sydney is the best teacher I've ever had. If you reach out she will help you quite a bit and is more than willing to work with you on a personal level. She is very lenient but expects the best from her students and usually gets it. Overall great teacher. I have gotten to know her on a personal level this term. She is an awesome person.

This was half online, half in class. She has a lot of assignments that are worth very little points. It is a lot of work, but if you just do it, it ends up helping you in the long run. She is very smart, and willing to help. In class she wants discussions, and contributions, she doesnt just sit in the front and talk. A worthwhile challenge.

Sydney is a great instructor. I learned more in her class than most of my classes put together. Build a relationship with her and she will understand if your having difficuties. I have taken her for both english and writing and I will not take anyone else. She will work you hard. Make sure to do the extra credit and turn in everything.

Great class with a great teacher. LOTS of reading. Weekly discussions. Use the online writing center even if you don't need it. It makes her happy. Build a relationship with her through emails. it helps. I have taken her multiple times and have learned a lot.

The subject matter in the class is usually interesting and guidelines are clearly written. There is a lot of hard work but if you put in the effort she's fair with grading.

Lots of Work (reading and writing) due on different days in the week, so have a calendar to keep track of assignments due. I enjoyed the class for the most part. The work load helped you learn to write better. Darby responded to my emails promptly and in my opinion, graded papers fairly. Would take another class with her.

Sydney was helpful and wouldn't mind taking her class again. The assignments were to be expected of an online class (more work, in my opinion) but if there was ever a problem, she was happy to clarify.

Gives fantastic feedback that really improves your writing. Can be a tough grader but always fair. TONS of reading and writing. Get ready to spend some serious time on assignments. Required interaction with peers. Have taken this professor for 2 writing classes, and had a similar experience in both. Hard work for an A, but they exist! Worth it!

Shes alright.

Don't take this class if you want an easy A. Though she is a tough grader and really makes you work for an A, she clearly outlines what she expects from the beginning and there are no surprises throughout the course. Expect to be reading and writing a lot.

My rating only reflects Sydney as an online professor. Her modules and E-Learn layout are well thought out. I very rarely had to ask her for help; everything she had us do was clear. The work, however, was LONG. If you don't put in the hours you're going to have a hard time. TONS of reading and writing. But if you meet the criteria you'll get an A.

I don't know if I'm going to pull of an A in this class. She is a really tough grader and there is a ton of reading. Discussion boards every week and they are very in depth, not something you're going to get done an hour before they're due. She is very understanding and helpful if you ask for it, She gave me an extension when I asked.

Sydney Darby's online class was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Every week you have to post an in-depth discussion and respond to at least two other people's discussions. She grades really hard and isn't very lenient, however, her requirements are very clear. LOTS of reading and writing and assignments take a long time.

Assigned some pretty lengthy assignment but overall was fair in grading and workload.

I am not a strong writer and I managed to get a B. If you do the weekly assignments, you get the full points. It's a heavy workload, as expected from an online WR122 class, but she is very organized and gives clear directions.

Sydney is a very by the books kind of professor for the online class. She has a mostly clear idea for what you need to do and a lot of work to figure out exactly how to do it. One of the harshest graders I've run into so far. However, she does give you a second chance on the first essay and give good feedback on the rough drafts.

Sydney was a good professor. If you post & participate each week in the discussion groups, read your material, and be ready for the tests, you will do fine. She does post a response to you in the discussion board sometimes and she provides good questions and some feedback. Her grading is also clearly stated, and straight forward.

Great teacher. There is a lot of reading, however given the class it's expected. Weekly discussions that are required. I wouldn't say she is a tough grader, because all of my discussions I got 100% but be ready to work. The books you're to read are good minus the final one of Red Clocks. That was awful.

really simple-- basically an assignment due every class and can only be turned in in-person, three essays throughout the term, and one multi modal composition. I didn't think she was a tough grader. she was more lenient than others I have had in the past. she tells you to read sections for the next class but I didn't do a single one and was fine

I took this class the Summer 2020 term and while it was a LOT of work, Sydney was helpful and knows her stuff. She made it clear at the beginning that Summer term is condensed, so anyone who was not a strong writer or had not taken a composition class in a while, might want to sit the term out. Assignments and expectations were clear. Work hard!

Uses great questions to get you thinking about the assignment after the topic. Every discussion post is usually a huge assignment, worth lots of your grade. If you are prone to burnout this class isn't for you. Each assignment consists of in-depth analysis of the books, some assignments are more intense. Long books too recommend using audio books.
