No set grading with the same guidelines for the entire class. If you take his class, you will be miserable the entire semester.
He walked out of the room while I was giving an oral presentation. When I stopped, he told me to continue and he stayed in the hallway talking to someone. He didn't even hear most of it, and he had the nerve to give me a B . Totally arrogant.

Guy Chill out it is just Nassau
The man has good ideas, but his grading policy is simple and eassy to achieve an A, then again it is not will organized and you can not catch on his method until the end of the course. You would probably recieve a C in his class.
A word for the WISE... He likes who he likes, hope that you will be one of them, otherWISE, don't take WISE. If you do well does not guarantee a good grade
This guy is nuts! he doesn't actually teach he just sits there and argues. He's more concerned with getting his perfect bell curve than how you do in his class, and whats with the alligator bag?
Funny funny professor. Get on his good side though. The class is pretty straightforward. Read and participate, and that's about all you need. He's easy going, and you need to be too.
The guy doesnt even teach, he leaves in the middle of class to talk on his cell phone, everything is unclear, his tests are difficult. Be prepared to teach yourself the material

He is the best professor I have ever had. He teaches about social realities that most professors are afraid to confront. If you are a white-aversive-****(look it up), he will be your much needed wake up call. Read the text to prepare for discussions.
If this was Aftro-American Studies it is one thing. Focuses on one area only. there is a whole world of people out there. Arrogent. I don't recommend.

this class is very easy to pass, just show up and participate...the test are straight out of the book and review sheet, there is no way you cannot get an A if you looked over and read,as far as him personally he is very arrogant and simple minded and stubborn, he doesnt listen to other peoples views

He's nice but don't take him if you're ESL. You pretty much do your own work. He talks about his trips around the world but never test related.
he is all about mind games. his tests don't make sense, they were taken from an older version text than we were required to have. i don't think i learned anything all semester. i wouldn't recommend anyone to take his class.

ALWAYS LATE TO CLASS. ANSWERS HIS CELL PHONE WHEN STUDENTS ARE GIVING THERE ORAL PRESENTATIONS. HE IS A ****S. HE HAS NO RESPECT FOR THE WHITE POPULATION AND ALWAYS LOOKS DOWN APON THEM AND MAKE COMMENTS THAT THE STUDENTS FROM THE NORTH SHORE ARE SNOTTY AND SPOILED. I don't like the fact that because I am white he thinks I owe people that have been opressed. He dosent know where i am from or what I have been throught but he makes a judgement because of my skin color. People that constantly point out the inequalities of blacks against whites need to watch the news.Its not black or white anymore its grey.

He is always singling out the White kids. His act gets old within the first two weeks of class. Definately do not recomend taking this class to anyone. Very Self Centered always talking about how his classes close out first and people love his classes, thats a crock of Sh*t

I took soc. w/ professor wise and regretted it. He is by far the most **** and myopic man I have ever dealt with and had to go to the dean of the department because he belittled and humiliated me in front of the class. His tests are hard because he doesn't teach, but your final grade isn't based on anything. Avoid taking him if you can.

He is a jerk and a little ****. He class is easy though. All you have to do is not be late, speak up when you answer a question, and if you disagree with him keep it to yourself. His test are too easy b/c he gives you the answers the class before the test. The papers are a lot of writing though. If you have soft skin don't take this class.

he's an interesting guy i guess. I've never taken a afr-am class before and am not sure if they're all like this, wise is one crazy ass dude. i dont know how he's kept his job for this long. weirdest teacher ever. he doesn't teach for 2 months, and then assigns a 15 page paper, which you'll get an A on if you do all the work.

The truth hurts, that's why so many of you hate him, he is aggresive though, just don't be late, and he's especially tough on athletes. Classes are HUGE and you will have to present, so bear that in mind.
Honestly i thought the guy was funny at first..but when he decided to give a report with hardly any explanation i knew this was gonna be hell, he doesnt teach, he preaches, and expects us all to know how to present our chapters, hes rude to his students, but then again gave us a curve on the first test to make up for his nonteaching ability
Prof.Wise is a very good teacher. He tells it like it is whether or not you like it. He is honest about things that happen in society. Some people don't like him because of his ability to keep it real. It was a honor for me to me in his class and i wish more teachers were like him.

I thought he was cool until he gave me an incomlete for missing ONE quiz, despite the fact that i comfortably passed the presentations tests and quiz's. He's alrite, but at the same time, he's very ****ed up, so just be careful.
I walked out of professor wise's class 3 years ago during a summer session. I do not think there is enough room here to express what a horrific professor he is, he does not teach AT ALL and instead yells at students and rants and raves. He is a **** mysogonyst and the fact that NCC keeps him employed is scandalous.
class is a joke, he listens to the radio, hands out the exams before giving them, grades only based on how much he likes the student and that depends on theer skin color and if they agree with his tirades. the man is vile, has nothing interesting to contribute. inappropriate comments about ****s, jews and rich vrs. poor students

People are having problem with this pro. because as they say the truth hurts, (GROW UP). I loved him i resented the fact that i had to take sociology but once i got this teacher it did not matter i loved it. Yes he talks a lot of crap but that crap is what is going on in the world right now you get a review sheet before the test. A FOR SURE
took the class because sociology interested me. Got really unlucky with this professor. Came off as a pretty cool guy within the first few weeks then all of a sudden he becomes an ****. Terrible teacher. Gives no syllabus or anything to show what you have to do. Can go on for days about how terrible he is...i advise you don't take him.
Prof.Wise is like a paul mooney/Tyler perry. I had him for Afr185 his class wasn't hard just listen and do the work. The test he gives is common sense.He does come off strong but he's one of those old school teachers that just want to see his people succeed in life.If ur a very sensitive person then i don't take you should have prof.Wise

This guy is one of a kind. he doesnt let u speak even if you are in the middle of a presentation. Basicly the class is %100 opinon. and not yours. his. its a great class to go into for personal enrichment but never to learn. he doesnt ever refer to the text. for the test you have to teach yourself everything from the review sheet.
Hes freakin hilarious! theres not one class where he doesnt curse sumone out. there is no syllabus in this class, the textbook is like a bible. he will never review for a test, and u definitly wont finish presentations for like 5 days min. but overall if u get a 30 on a test hell curve ur test to a D-. u never fail.
i took him a couple years ago when i was at nassau, i just couldnt figure him out, yes, he opens your eyes to certain things, but he talks alot of sh;t too, going to class is like going church, if your going to take him, be open to critism and embarassament, i wont tell u not to take him though
I can't say I really learned anything in this class, he was absolutely hysterical, and I even agreed with most of the stuff he said in class, but he happens to be very condescending and it gets pretty annoying. Also says how "real" he is and then starts going off talking about horoscopes, give me a break.

it's sad that anyone thinks he "keeps it real." everything he's said is bull. he loves to talk about himself, doesn't teach a thing, and if you don't agree with him, beware. in short, if you get professor wise, RUN AWAY.
I actually think professor WISE is a great professor that many fake people do not understand only b/c real recognize real,he's honest and he hates to see when African American students act out in class or dnt do their work only b/c he wants us to do good (he means well)& will work with you if he sees that you are trying & he also hives great curves
Had Professor Wise back in 2000 or so for Soc 101. Certainly an interesting, colorful character full of intriguing opinions and wonderful life experiences. Unfortunately his opinions and life experiences are the focus of the in-class time. No time is spent reviewing going through what ultimately matters in this class - the subject material.
Attend his class..contribute and you will be fine
wise is one of the best teachers ive had so far in school. His discussions in class are really open your eyes. Although he does yell, he keeps it very real and doesnt like to see people taking advatage things. He test are easy. aslong as you show that you care and effort its deffinatly and easy A even if you dont do well.

Prof Wise is a very intelligent Prof. He is very help and is eager to teach culture and the different cultures that surrounds use. He's to the point. You will walk away with a wealth of knowledge in one semester while looking forward to taking the next semester with him. He let's you see your exam in advance. Test are very easy and he curves very
Took Professor Wise during summer, didn't learn a thing. He gets too carried away with his personal stories and his perspective on absolutely anything you can imagine. He taught us about horoscopes, which had absolutely nothing to do with the class. He basically makes you do all the learning through the textbook. Grades unfairly.
DO NOT TAKE him!! he is a very irrational, offensive man, he puts his students down everyday. Repeats himself on his personal views until it gets ANNOYING, BLABBERS about things not related 2 material, all he does every class is talk nonsense & then tests you on material from the book which he does not cover. To top it off he is UNFAIR grader.
Easiest class I have taken at NCC ; took it in spring '13. lets you see every test before you take them & there's study sheets. abundant opportunities for extra credit. I got a B+ ; TAKE THIS CLASS
i took the class in spring 2013. It is very easy. All i had to do all semester was show up, present my chapter when its due, and take the tests. Thats it. Tests are easy because he lets you look at it before the test and his review sheets are forward. The biggest problem is his attitude, and he rants most of the time. Just show up and pass
Don't come to this class with an attitude and you will be fine. This class is legit one of the greatest classes I took at NCC. The professor is extremely well-informed on a large spectrum of material and presents it in a humorous and outrageous way that gets you thinking. His grading is incredibly fair and study guides actually match test.

Professor Wise was a GREAT professor! He doesn't ask for much. Come to class, participate, show an effort that you want to learn and study for exams you will pass. it isnt rocket science. like any other teacher he just wants you to progress in life. he shows exams a week before the actual test. its Aisha Flowers Professor! Professor Wise is worth a good review but his class is at times hard to handle depending on the group of students my class had some students who didn't care and didn't bring there work. HE LOVES SHUTTING PEOPLE DOWN lol he will twist and turn a lot so don't interrupt his tests were so unclear take pictures it helps !! he is truly amazing

Tests are very easy if you study from his study sheets! He is a very caring guy, tells a lot of his life experiences but their not boring stories some are funny and some your just amazed about. All you need to do is show up to class and listen. He was a good professor. Textbook is a must for project.
He uses the class as his opinion podium. He repeats himself every class period telling the same stories. He's incredibly rude and loves to hear himself speak. Many students were wondering what planet he lives on. It's a somewhat easy A, but difficult to endure.

If you see his name listed run dont walk. He is extremely prejudiced and Long winded. Spends entire class talking about his political opinions and had no problem saying if you agree with him you will pass. Talks about race in a derogatory fashion quite often.
Professor Wise is an incredible Professor. He teaches African American courses etc. His goal is to create awareness and self esteem to african american students and to enlighten all others to this sophisticated society in america. To those who just simply didn't get the point, well you just simply didn't get the point.
Great professor. Will definitely go against you if your conservative and especially Republican. Dont expect him to give you a passing grade just because your black. He is fair to all students and will push you to be open minded especially aware to current events and issues facing our country. If your a veteran be open minded what he speaks about

He can be a bit much if you are always late but I loved his class. I am even considering majoring in sociology because of him.
Be on time and don't miss class, show you care, complete the study guides (exact same questions as on the tests), and you'll get an A. Encourages students to be informed of current events/issues. Can't stress it enough, DON'T have an attitude or he will call you out in front of the whole class. Best professor I had at NCC.
I took his class as a schedule filler, was interested in sociology. I definitely am not now. His class isn't hard necessarily This class is a string of presentations from chapter to chapter by each student in the class, The problem is he will interrupt and go on an extreme tangent. time in his class moves at a snails pace. find another professor
I'm going to start by saying i did well in his class. However when it comes to grades, he distorts what he thinks you should get to be your grade. did well on all 5 tests and the presentation. I was in all but 2-3 classes and my grade dropped. Just don't waste your time, the easy grade is not worth the 75 minutes of random tangents and boredom
class is easy, he should not be a professor, he is obnoxious and rude and takes up 60 minutes of class time because he likes the sound of his own voice. Firmly beleives in earning things which is ironic considering his rating. listen to his past students. found the 2.5 hrs of class a week to be 2.5 hrs too long. detriment to education.
Other ratings say it all. I would definitely say 3 or better at nassau because there is a major dropoff from the 5 4 and 3 professors to the sub-3s. just on professors, two students at nassau could have wildly different class experiences
He is arrogant and annoying. Claims to have an "open discussion class" but if you say your opinion he'll immediately shut you down. Almost all of the classes are his personal anecdotes and not much of anything else. If you ask clarifying questions he gets mad like you're insulting him on a personal level
Prejuiced individual. Pushes political ideology on impressionable kids and feeds them bull. Extremely arrogant and full of himself and puts you on the spot for no reason if you are the wrong ethnicity. Constantly brags and self loathes and teaches nothing talks for 2 hours. Talks with a passionate hate about other races that aren't African American
You will not learn sociology. You will learn socialism! He's very woke and radical. Your questions and opinions do not count. He won't let you speak your opinion and doesn't answer any questions. He bashes capitalism while he advocates for socialism. He will suddenly test you 5 times on 3 chapters at a time. Each test has 50 questions. So be ready.
Prof. Wise is genuinely not as bad as people are saying in the ratings. his class is easy, as long as you show up on time, pay attention, and be mindful of your absences. DONT have an attitude with him, he will call you out. one thing i will admit is that he does go on about stuff not really related to class. tests are exactly like the study sheets
Very niche perspective on life that may not resonate with everyone; especially those who choose not to listen. Passionate about beliefs but don't be afraid to challenge his system; he respects those that can articulate their beliefs effectively & is not what majority of these ratings make him out to be. He just points out the root of the problem.
Very interesting and nice as an individual, but lectures were incoherent and strange. I (as well as other students) swapped this class for other classes to meet degree requirements. The lectures crossed a boundary from ridiculous and funny to annoying and offensive very quickly. Ask him about barbie dolls... will make weird comments.
