ms. carr is funny and teachers well... makes class enjoyable!

EXCELLENT MATH TEACHER. ONE OF THE VERY BEST.
DO NOT TAKE ALEKS WITH MS.CARR! She doesn't explain crap! She thinks you should already know it cause some computer is suppose to be teaching you! I can't stand her! Yes, she's fun and funny but really annoying sometimes!!!!!!!!!!!
It's been years since I was i her math class (back before the structure changed). She was a high quality teacher. Very kind, very clear and concise. Highly recommended.
Sometimes she wasn't very clear on when assignments were due and other things like that but I thought she was an overall good teacher and was very helpful as long as you tried to do well.
Great teacher
Show up as much as possible...done on the computers and she takes attendance.
really nice and offers plenty of out of class help. kind of moody though. sang to herself a lot. tests were tricky but not too horrible. you could get worse.

GREAT LADY helped me pass math and is a saint thank take her if you can.
She is the greatest teacher that I ever had in my life. She helped in class, out of class. And even stayed till 11 at night sometimes helping students. If you ever need help in math if you have her or not, ask Sylvia Carr.
thought she was aweful. very irrational and not very clear on assignments. did not explain herself very good. i found her singing horrible and annoying
the class itself isn't that bad, it's hard..but ms. carr makes it worse. she's terribly moody and picks out favorites. she's a ****. basically, she makes me feel like****. hope you have better luck.
Does a lot of teasing.
Ms.Carr was one of the greatest teachers I have had in a long time. I though that she was so nice, and she was great at explaining everything...and worked really hard to help her students out. I would definitely recommend her to anyone, and I would love t
She is a very good teacher if you show that you care and show that you want to do well. She is moody and does have favorites but if she see's that you are trying then she will do everything she can to get you the grade you need.
What a ****!! If youre not a favorite of hers, the class is not fun. Dosent finish examples she does on the board. Not very helpful and really moody most of the time.
I think she is a great teacher she helps everyone who wants to be helped she would come after class from 630 to 930 to help students with question
If your her favorite student your golden, but if your not, she'll let it be known. Her tests are medium to hard. She grades pretty hard. VERY MOODY!! Beware when shes in a bad mood, but when she is in a good mood she is a fun teacher. If you need help she'll stay after as long as it takes at ngiht.
This woman is a witch, you cant count on her for anythiing, especially to have you grades for you. She is a ***** and she is the worst teacher i have ever had in my entire life. Stay away from this teacher at all costs, you do not wanna get stuck with this *****.
What great teacher Will go out of her way to help you if you show her that you want to be helped.
Make sure you don't skip and ALWAYS do the homework - you never know when she's going to take it up and she'll get mad if you don't have it. Take the time in the beginning to visit her in her office. It'll help you out later. Don't get on her bad side.
Ms Carr is an amazing teacher. She won't let you fail. She shows you what you did wrong on tests and lets you correct it for full credit. Stay on her good side, she will make fun of anyone. Do your homework, she doesn't collect it but she really helps you if you have problems.
she is very helpfull if you go in and try!! if not you won't pass. get on her good side!!!
This class is really easy as long as you do the homework and prepare for her tests. I've made all A's and one B. She's a crazy lady and make sure you get on her good side and don't talk in class. Pay attention and you'll do great. She's really nice and very helpful!!
Ms. Carr is awesome! She likes to pick on people a lot, but everyone seems to be okay with it because it makes the class more interesting. She sings and talks to herself sometimes, but I think she does it to make everyone laugh. She is a huge help and a great teacher!
She's a good teacher, and she gives really good notes but her tests are HARD! She's willing to help you as much as you need and she's a really sweet lady. But beware she has her days...
I thought she was really nice at first, but then she turned out to be horrible. Never miss her class or else she will think you are just skipping and that you don't care about your grade. Try to take someone else if you can.
She was the best math teacher I have ever had. She is willing to help anytime you have a problem and she makes class fun. Dont skip her class because it is really hard to catch up. Her tests are killers so you definetely have to study. I recommend taking her for this class but be prepared to work.
best teacher I have ever had. Take her you will pass!!!
make sure you stay on her good side and go and sit in her office, even if you dont have questions make some up, let her get to know you and know that your trying! if that happens you are golden!
She doesn't believe in students helping each other. If she sees you trying to help another student she will yell at you.She wants to be the only one teaching.I got an A in the class but she hated me the entire time and even made me sit in the corner. If you act like you don't know anything and meet with her outside of class a lot you will do good.
Ms. Carr is by far the worst teacher i've ever had. She is very rude and mean and if you get on her bad side, she is very unfair. I would NOT recommend taking this class. If you want to get embarassed and put on the spot in class, go ahead and take this class, but if you don't feel comfortable with it, don't take it.
She knows her stuff if you can put up with her attitude. She will get in yor face and point you out in front of the whole class. If she likes you then she loves you but if she doesn't then she will let you know. She explains things well but if ask her a question she will make you feel like a complete idiot!!!!!! Take her if you can put up with her.
She is terrible and does not help you out one bit. Usually teachers are suppose to tell you what you do wrong on a problem, she makes you work it out like you should already know. What good is that? She's rude and hateful and i would NOT recommend taking this class.
I really like Ms. Carr, she's always there to help, I mean she'll saty in her office until all hours of the night to help you understand math! She really cares about her students and wants to get to know you personally. I'd take her again in a second! But beware: its math 135, so its hard, her tests are hard & she grades hard, but she'll let help u
n i g h t m a r e
She is a great lady. She is great when she is in a good mood. She cracks people up. One thing she does do is single people out. Don't skip because she will hunt you down. Her class if fairly easy. Ther isn't as much homework as there is in other 135 classes. Her tests aren't that long. If you study and know your stuff, you'll do fine. RECCOMMENDED!
She is a gerat tezcher I have ever met!! Take her class!! She does teach one chapetr per day but her test is not so hard at all if you understand how to solve. She also help student out either in class or out of class. ALSO her final was not so hard!! take her!! I promiss she is a great lady!!
She is the best teacher ever. I recomend her for any math class. She is always willing to help after and during hours. She is very clear and her test are not too difficult. If you show her you are trying and visit her in her office you will do great in her class. I recomend her and if you don't take her you are stupid.
She is the best teacher I ever had! She is so helpful. Honestly, if you have a c or a b in this class, that's mean that you don't want to to well, and you are not even interested!! Take her, she's good!
she assigns homework every single day and only grades three of the assignments. Lets do the math there... 4 homework asignments per week times 16 weeks in a semester = 64 homework assignments for only thre grades. That's 21.3 assignments per ONE GRADE. Final answer... SHE'S UNFAIR!
She is the BEST TEACHER I've ever had!! She does give you homework every singlr day. but the hw helps me a lot for the exam. she doesn't collect the hw ever time so you can make it later. and you can get points from the hw then add up to your grade= easy points to make your grade up!! Gotta take her!!
Mrs. Carr is an excellent teacher! She always has study sessions before the tests. Final exam is easy! always willing to help students. gives homework every night and helps a lot, but she doesn't always take them for points. she's also really funny
Do not take this teacher! Very **** and unfair. If you don't know something she will make you look stupid instead of helping. She does help after class but good luck trying to get into her office. Her tests has many twists. I wouldn't recommend this class to my own worst enemy. DO NOT TAKE HER!
CRAZY. Jeckel and Hyde personality. Spends more time berating us at each class and patronizing than teaching the material. Spends so much time on her tirades in class that she leaves little time to cover material, and therefore few examples. You have to do things according to the way she teaches in class, not the way the book teaches. Beware!
Ms. Carr is an excellent teacher. It is however college algebra, so it is tough for most people either way but she is a VERY helpful teacher. It meant that I had to come to her office many times, but if she knows you care about your grade then she will do everything she can to make it a good one.
Mrs. Carr was one of the best professors I've ever had. The math part sucks, but she, as a professor, is EXTREMELY helpful. As someone already said, going to her office (which may mean almost everyday) helps a lot. As long as you try, do decent on tests and quizzes, come to class everyday, and communicate with Mrs. Carr, you will pass.
She's a little crazy, and does make fun of her students a lot but I think she means it all as a joke. It's hard to tell sometime though...She's also kind of all over the places, but very helpful if you seek it out. I would suggest taking someone else but if you have to it's not the end of the world.
Doesn't grade all hmwk, or return hmwk (better take a photocopy if you want to study from hmwk!). Didn't teach same solving methods as in book (wouldnt accept answers solved w/ the books method). Not in office during times posted (I tried 3x). Would promise to email hmwk, then send it less than 24hrs before class. Spent 30% of time berating class.
Funny teacher! She pokes fun at her students, and can be intimidating if you don't know how to take her sense of humor. Was extremely helpful outside of class. Always went out of her way to help.
She speaks in ebonics, which is fine, although hilarious for a professor. Her "humor" is belittling students like a classroom bully, yet considers herself a Christian. She spends more time ranting at the class than teaching. If she doesn't like you, forget it.
she really is a good teacher... she will do what ever you want to get help!!! If you can get her!!
Very effective teacher, compensating for the complete failure of the pre-university public education system in teaching me basic math. She was the first step towards my ability to now program 3D computer logic.

I dont know where to start with Ms. Carr. She is by far the funniest teacher I have had. I am taking her again for MTH 135. She made sure that each one of us knew what we were going over. At first I though I was going to hate it, but she came through for us and would recommend her to anyone. She is awesome! Satisfaction Garunteed!!!!!
This professor is overall an ok teacher, she doesnt explain the sections being learned fully but is always in her office more then what her office hours say and is usually there to help
I really liked Mrs. Carr and thought she was a great, funny teacher! The class is easy. She likes to make fun of people, so you can't take her seriously. Pray that everyone in your class is smart because if everyone does poorly on a test she will rant about it forever and make you feel like you're stupid!
My math class was taught online and it was horrible. She taught once a week but was always open to answering questions. She taught very well and explained things very well. She contradicts herself a lot as far as plans and deadlines, but go to class EVERY DAY!!
Lets just say she has a sense of humor. She is fun and easy and is ALWAYS willing to help you!!!! make sure to do your study guides! and she loves it when you go for help and participate in class!!!
Great teacher, always willing to help out. She stayed late and came in on Saturdays to help me pass my class. I highly recommend
I would highly recommend you NOT to take her. I think she may be **** and made my semester one of the worst semesters of the year. If you do take her, don't pack up your stuff before turning in your test..you may get accused of cheating. She is not friendly, acts like she pretty much hates her life and her material doesn't correlate w/ the tests.
This lady seems ok to the rest of you but I would not reccomend anyone to take her class. She is not helpful to students very much and she ignores them from time to time...Ms. Carr I would never take her class again!
terrible teacher i would highly recommend no one to ever take her class
During this class we used a computer program, and that's pretty much what taught me MTH 103!! Although, she was very helpful if i ever had any questions and stayed late on the week to have a math lab! If you go to class everyday, participate and do your homework passing should be just fine. She DOES play favorites though!!
loved her!
I thought Ms. Carr was an incredible teacher. The math program she used was helpful and she was always willing to help.
Literally one of the best teachers I've ever had. SO CARING & SWEET. Failed with Cheng last semester, but got an A in Carr's. Learning is from the computer(actually amazing), but shes helpful, too. Knowing the study guide= A on test. Be respectful(NO PHONES), try sometimes, show up, & she'll do anything for you. First time I've ever learned math!
Dear god her tests are impossible. Took her during the summer when the instructors can make up their own tests ... NO!!!!! I am not sure how she is during a regular semester, but during the summer she is mean, condescending, but she will help you if you ask for it. She even comes in on sundays. Evil yes, but helpful yes, if you at least try.
Ms. Carr is very condescending in her classes. If you ask her a question, she never gives you a direct answer, and trys to make you feel stupid for asking it. Alek's is terrible, and her class is not structured. Random quizzes over random stuff. Make sure you take good notes from Aleks.
This class is horrible and unstructured. ALEK's is used and there really isn't any point in having a teacher because she isn't helpful at all. Plus, you end up losing a ton of topics and spending hours redoing them. If you have to take her, make sure to attend class cause quizzes are random. If you can choose, don't take if it involves ALEK's.
I love this woman! She is very funny and makes class interesting. She is always there if you need help. It is challenging class due to it being on Alek but she is always willing to help those whose grades are slipping.
Sylvia Carr Is the sassiest black women I have ever met. She doesnt know anything about math and is very condescending and makes you feel dumb for not knowing something. DO NOT TAKE this class. You will regret paying for a lecture class but getting and online education. It sucks...
She is very condecending and does not like to just answer the question. She has to make she you know that she knows the right answer already and makes you feel very dumb for even asking the question. Aleks is just as bad. It doesnt help and explains the material very confusing.
Worst teacher I've ever had she makes you feel dumb for asking a question, and most of the time she doesn't even answer it once you've asked. Aleks is used and doesn't teach the material.
she is really nice and can be very helpful when you need to talk to her and get help, but she is serious and can be intimidating
Sylvia is a great woman. Very kind and caring about her students. She tends to view the majority of her students as her children. She can be very stubborn at times but if you come to her with any problem she is willing to help. Go to class as much as possible and she will like you more. Her lectures arent great.
Ms. Carr is crazy. But she's awesome as long as you keep up with the work and come to class. She got irritated with my class because everyone was behind. Give her a chance; she's a good teacher and is very helpful if you just ask for it and aren't wasting time in class.
She is a very good teacher! She cares about you understanding her class & wants you to do well! She takes attendance & is willing to help you out whenever!
Ms. Carr is the nicest lady, but do not take advantage of her. Just make sure you go to class and keep up wit hthe homework. If you begin to fall behind just stop by her office and she will help you get caught up. she seems intimidationg she she is really funny :) DO NOT GIVE HER AN ATTITUDE or you will not get along
Sylvia is the BEST. she seems really intimidating and scary at first but she is so great to her students and met with me every day to help me get my grade up. She saved me from failing math. Not to mention she is HILARIOUS. i started actually going to class because she made it fun with her goofy commentary. great woman. definitely reccommend.
LOVED Carr. She is hilarious and made going to class at 8 am not so bad! She uses Alek's program, so its a lot of self learning but I prefer this program. Easy class, just show up and do the assignments!
Love, Love, Love her!!! The material wasn't too hard and she was always willing to help. If you are outgoing and funny, she will Love you! I have no complaints about her at all.
Loved her, she was willing to work with everyone
I never realized till the end, that she was willing to bend over backwards for you. how she does not lecture much during the hour. She lets you work on ALEKS and if you have questions she answers them. If for some reason you are not ready for a test tell her she will help you get ready and post-pone the test if others in class aren't ready either.
She is such a caring person. If it was not for all of her help I probably would not have passed this class. I love Ms. Carr and would gladly take her again if I could. If you would hard she will do the same
I loved Ms. Carr. She is extremely caring and helpful. She is strict and expects a lot out of her students. She spent 11 hours in review sessions before our final with her classes which was beyond helpful. I wish I could take a class with her again.
I was absolutely terrified of this class, and rightly so, as I am "math challenged". Thankfully, Professor Carr stepped up to help me. She is one of the few professors that actually cares whether here students succeed or not. I was blessed to have her. Thank you Professor Carr!!
She is helpful if you can make it to her office hours, but she moves very quickly in class. One thing that I didn't like though was that if you miss an assignment on MyMathLab she doesn't count off for being late, she just makes it a zero. Like I said though, she is willing to help you in her office.
This woman...words cannot express how much more difficult she made my life. She would go over lessons that were too easy for way to long and got us behind. We had to cram a test in three days before the final. She also did not return a test back to us for 8 weeks...8 weeks!
I'm terrible at math, and she was always willing to see me outside of class to make sure I understood everything. In class she may seem a little sarcastic, but she really cares about the students and will be more than willing to help you as long as you ask.
Ms. Carr is all over the place. She was late to class almost every single day. She could not work my math lab to save her life. She also did not stick to any type of schedule. We got so behind in class that there was no review for the final. I also never got my last two tests back. It took her two months for to even grade one of my tests.
Professor Carr was always there to help and answer any questions you had. I am not the best at math and feel like I am understanding everything she is saying. Only thing that I can't stand is how slow she is at grading. I'm not even sure she puts the stuff she collects in the gradebook!
Love her! The material is hard but she is always there to help! If you need an extra study session, she'll make one for you. If you verbalize how youre doing in the class she will empathize with you and help structure the way you take the course to your needs and schedule. She is hilar! Make sure she remembers your name and yur golden!
She has a unique teaching style. Comes off as confrontational but really is a nice lady. She wants to help you pass the class but is unclear at some times. She is horrible at posting grades and I honestly thought I failed the class but somehow left with a C. Going into the final I only knew what I got on test 1 & 2.
Despite my initial difficulty with math, she helped me overcome that. Unfortunately I received a grade lower than I expected, even when doing well on tests and assignments. It frustrated me even more when I could not transfer this class over to a city college. Waste of time.
Carr really tries to help you pass her class. She is a great teacher. Getting up to go to class at 8 in the morning and having to wait outside for 20 min bc she is late was frustrating but when I did bad on a test she let me retake it and scheduled time to come help me review for it! Be ready to put in lots of time for the class!
I very much disliked her as a teacher because she was completely unorganized through the semester and she does pick favorites. Advice to you, is to be on top of your work. And you can bug her all you want about your previous grades or test during her office hours. She generally will grade it right in front of you if you if she hasn't graded it yet!
Aweful! Loved math just ended up in lower level course for trouble with factors and she definately didn't help that problem. Was rude and derogatory in everything she said. Conducted class VERY unethically. Shared grades and attendance with other classmates. Found a victim in every class meeting to call out and embarrass.
Make sure you do not skip class on Fridays, she almost ALWAYS gives quizzes.
Do not take her. Most unorganized person ever. Each time I went to her office for help she would only answer one question and send me away. Also she never gives back your test so you dont know what your grade is. Test are alot harder than what she teaches. Shes horrible
Awful. Worst math teacher I've ever had. Won't ever be able to talk to her after class, doesn't respond to E-Mail. Takes forever to grade tests, doesn't keep you updated on tests or quizzes. Gets behind in the beginning and rushes to fit everything in at the end of the semester. Bleh!
HORRIBLE! If you actually want to pass college algebra do NOT take Dr. Carr. She's always late to class, never answers emails, takes weeks to grade and return tests, doesn't thoroughly explain anything, and laughs at her students! I've never been great at math, but this is the first class I've ever felt like I am going to fail.
Miss Carr is full of character. She is lively and sassy. I despise math and failed my first 3 tests, but she put in a ton of extra time to insuring I would pass. You HAVE to show her you care or she will ignore you. Dedication will go a long way with her. She made me like math, which I didn't think was possible.
This teacher is the worst math teacher I have ever had in my entire life. She goes way too fast and makes you feel stupid if you ask questions. She tells you to go to her office for help and then erases all of your work and doesn't tell you what you did wrong. Hates freshman. She doesn't give back tests or quizzes until you ask. Doesnt email back.
Would not advise taking a class with her. She is horrible at answering questions, will tell you to meet her in office and not show. Also made you feel stupid for asking questions. One thing she is good with is she will hold review sessions, and helped round up my grade at end of semester
Ms. Carr was really funny and also a great teacher. She took things slowly and made it really easy to understand and I'm about to end the semester with an A which I thought was impossible. I don't know how easy she is to get a hold of outside of class because I never tried, but she's a great teacher in class.
She is truly the most helpful teacher I have had yet
She is the worst professor I have had by FAR. She is very rude to her students , does not respond to emails, NEVER has tests and quizzes graded in time. Gives homework and quizzes over material she never taught. I would have dropped this class if I knew she was going to be the professor.
She is definitely an acquired taste, with that being said, she is one of the most strange teachers i have ever had. Her social skills are very odd, so it's hard to tell whether she's just trying to be funny, or actually being rude. She will try to make you feel stupid for asking a question, but she does answer them.
If you take the time to talk to her and ,ore importantly, go see her during office hours then you will have a very hard time getting below a B in the class.
She is there for you when you need help. Take the time and go to her office, she will help you. You will not be disappointed if you take her classes and utilize the help she is offering. I would take her class over again.
Nice lady if you go to her office and get to know her. Comes off as not approachable and often picks a victim in each class. tests are tough, and not good with keeping to one schedule. however she is willing to put in the time if you are.
Ms. Carr is a really nice person. At first she can come off a little mean but she's really not bad! She will care about your grade as much as you do. Take the time to go to her office to ask for help if needed. Do all of the homework and never skip class. The tests are hard. Difficult class for me, I gave it my all and only got a C.
One of the worst and most psychotic professors I've ever had in my LIFE! If you go by her office she plays like she's nice and like she wants to help but she's SO bipolar that one minute she's helpful and the next she's yelling at you. She literally (not figuratively) ruined my college career. Spends more time yelling than teaching. She's awful.
She comes off as unapproachable in the beginning but she warms up as the semester goes on. Tests take forever to get back, but she offered us a big extra credit assignment at the end that raised my grade by 5%. Attend class because she will give out quizzes that will help your grade. You only need the online access code, not the textbook.
Comes off pretty rude at first, but she's really nice. She's always willing to help you out and she really cares about your grade.
Wouldn't recommend. She treats her students like children and constantly calls out people for having "stupid" questions. She will have you ask to go to the bathroom. Strict on cellphones. Constantly 10 min or more late to class then calls out students who arrive later. Loses papers. Doesn't answer emails. Although she does thoroughly explain.
Mrs. Carr is a great professor. This course was very easy. As long as you show up, do the homework and PAY ATTENTION in class you should have no trouble receiving an A. She is very strict about cell-phones so make sure you stay off of yours. She really wants her student to pass.
I am a non traditional student and after having been away from school for several years I was terrified to return because I still had to take math. Miss Carr was absolutely incredible! I met with her numerous times throughout the semester and she was always more than willing to help. She was as excited as I was, if not more, when I received my A!
I hate it this class! If you are not a math person, I would not take her. I hate math and Mrs. Carr made me hate it even more. The only thing that really counts toward your grade are the tests and they are super difficult. I got A's and B's on all the homework and quizzes and it won't even matter because I do terrible on the tests.
She is REALLY mad and sassy when you ask questions. No lie she has an evil laugh and uses it on a daily basis. I use to go in and see her in her office. She is way nicer but not much help. She is crazy picky on how she grades. Tests are very strong. I got an A in 103 before and had to drop her class.
Ended up having to drop the class because of how hard she graded the tests/quizzes/homework. Would not recommend her if you want to pass math.
She gave me the impression that she didn't know where she was half the time. Homework and quizzes are pointless. The tests are nothing compared to the notes and homework. She also has conversations with herself in the third person and then randomly laughs. Graded one of my tests right in front of me and half the class. Does not respond to emails.
Grades really hard. She doesn't put tests grade up online until the last. Figures out problems as shes doing them expects you to understand how to do them. Very bad at giving good answers to questions. Avoid taking her class.
Mrs. Carr wil rarely respond to emails, always make a comment in front of the whole class if you leave even to use the restroom, and provides just an overall uncomfortable classroom environment. She teaches Math quickly and offers very little help herself outside the classroom. As for your grade, it's pretty much up in the air until the last day.
Professor Carr works with you based on your given effort. She takes time before, during, and after class, as well as by appt. to help you understand the material. This professor helped me understand and pass what used to be my worst subject.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. TERRIBLE teacher. Makes you feel stupid. Grades super tough, laughs at you for "stupid" questions, her way or no way. Environment is uncomfortable, she's psycho terrifying laugh Yells at you for going to the bathroom. Tests are hard. Gives lots of pop quizzes. Never sure of what your grade is. Doesn't teach, learn by videos.
She does not teach in this class. All of what you learn is from videos on mymathlab. She also will give one date for assignments to be due online but will expect the whole unit to be finished way before that date. She is very sassy and does not clearly answer your question the first time. A tough grader on tests and does not give extra credit.
Hope you love my math lab!!!! She didn't teach a single time. Your lessons are taught online by videos. But you're required to come to class where you have quizzes and just sit on your laptop unless you need help. And she'll get in bad moods because people don't show up and yell a lot. It was a great time (heavy drenching sarcasm)
She was one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She is so negative and picks on students.
Horrible horrible horrible!! DO NOT take this teacher. Being a student who is not strong in math already, she makes you feel even worse about yourself. Can't even sneeze in class without her calling the attention of the entire class on you. Very rude. Made me anxious being in class with her. Pop quizzes almost every other day. AVOID THIS TEACHER
Ms. Carr was the worst math teacher I ever had. She is late to class, seems like she does not now what she is doing. She is rude to students and makes fun of you when you ask a question. Is very picky about showing work and takes off points for the smallest things. Does not fully explain anything. Slowest grader ever. Horrible teacher
Extremely rude professor. I am usually not one to ask many questions, but if I feel the need to, I will. This wasn't the case with Carr, she will mock you if you don't know how to do a question, and will literally take students tests who have failed and humiliate them infront of class to show people how to not do things. Also does not teach well.
One of the most intimidating teachers I've ever had. She is impolite to students, she does not go out of her way to help, and her lectures are very boring. The book is not needed, but the code for MyMathLab is a necessity. Do not skip class if you want to pass her class..
I decided to take it easy on my math class for gen. ed. and took this class instead of Calc. After reading the reviews I was worried about this class but I absolutely enjoyed almost everyday. The math came easily to see since it was all stuff that I have seen before, but Miss Carr developed a great mood in her class.
With this professor you either love or hate her and I LOVED this professor. You just need to get on her good side. If you are willing to put in the work in then she will too. She will stay in her office past hours to work with you and she will go through problems step by step with you. Yes she is very aggressive because she demands respect.
Prof. Carr did an well below average at her job. In a small class she did little to make sure the class was always caught up with her. For me, personally, she went way to slow. She is more of a stickler for showing work that at ever met (believe me, she unreasonable with it). She gives tons of homework, which can be expected for an alg. class.
Do not take a class by Sylvia Carr. She doesn't have a syllabus with a list of assignments and due dates. She goes strictly off mymathlab, so if you don't check it, you get a zero for the assignment with no late credit available. I'm seriously thinking about dropping this class a month into the semester.
Ms. Carr is really good if you put in the effort and get on her good side. She doesn't really bother to learn the students names but she does care if you are respectful( calls girls Thelma a lot haha). She gives lots of chances and reopens homework often if you ask nicely or most of the class didn't do it. You MUST show the work or no credit.
Ms. Carr is a very good teacher. She is super funny and entertaining in class, and she explains the material very well. You will pass her class if you show effort
Ms Carr is very caring and overall a good teacher. She expects a lot from her students but if something comes up she is more than willing to work with you. If you show that you are trying then she will cut you some slack.
Ms. Carr is and always will be my all time favorite teacher. She is one sassy lady but she knows how to teach. She taught math the way I needed to be taught: like I was the dumbest person in the world. I suck at math and because of her I was able to pass this class with a B. When I did bad on a test she would meet me outside of class and go over it
Mrs. Carr will put in at much effort as you do. Shes a great teacher, and she cares about the success of her students. She stayed so late with me SO MANY times and amazingly I got an A in her class, as someone who has failed 3 other times. (lbvs) I recommend her to everyone!
She rarely knows what she talking about, gets things wrong all the time and always relies on the students answers. Shes not afraid to publicly humiliate you so just sit there and dont say a word. And dont you dare take out your phone.
Spiteful. Aggressive. Class can't follow what point is attempting to be made because of her consistent incorrect work. Rigid grading system makes any credit for quizzes/tests impossible. Forget finding any info on blackboard/communicating by email. Wasted test review day scolding us about not completing homework that wasn't due yet. Stay away!
If I hadnt taken a higher math before her class, I wouldnt understand anything. You have to show EVERY SINGLE STEP of your work on tests (including showing that 2x24) if you want any credit. Takes off points if the work doesnt flow correctly but never explains what that means. She also gives quizzes randomly and berates you for looking tired.
AVOID. Worst teacher I've ever had. I'm good at math & enjoy it, but she made me hate it. She says she has office hours, but is hardly ever there. Takes forever to grade. Don't ask when the tests will be graded. She will grade yours in front of the entire class. Does at least one problem COMPLETELY wrong every class & students have to correct her.
Worst teacher I've ever had. She gives random pop quizzes on the class day before breaks because she knows people will miss. She yells at her classes and berates people for arguing with her, even when she is wrong. She messes up at least one question every class and students have to correct her. Hard to read her handwriting on the board too.
One of the worst I've had/ Not willing to help or work with students. She doesn't even read emails! expect her to be late and just flat out rude to students.
Explains the lessons well on some days and poorly on others, and uses valuable time to take manual attendance or complain about the students. Doesn't grade clearly at all. A thing she does that is positive is accepting late work if the student has a reasonable excuse, a lot of professors have an arrogant mindset and don't allow that, but she does.
Taking this class was the worst decision I have ever made. Have to specifically do the work that she writes in the notes, or you will get the question the wrong, even if your answer is correct. There has been pop quizzes almost once a week. Half the material she teaches is taught incorrectly, thus making those pop quizzes impossible.
Worst experience with a professor yet. Doesn't have a schedule for when your homework is due and doesn't use email. Tried going to her office hours multiple times, never there. Gets mad when you correct her mistakes. Calls you out, makes you feel dumb when you ask questions. Only class I've ever dropped. She makes it very difficult to do well.
Nearly inaccessible outside of class. Sometimes spent up to half the class time complaining about the people that didn't do an assignment or just trying to pull up the online course page. Sometimes she ended it after she did that without lecturing. If I worked like that at my job, I'd be fired. Test questions are nothing like the homework.
Makes mistakes when writing out equations, then proceeds to finish said equations to realize she used x instead of y when she started writing it 15 minutes ago. I learned more using YouTube than going to her for help. What was difficult was that she wrote the equations in the lecture but didn't explain a whole lot about how she got to the answers.
I would take a summer course if she is your only option. Carr didn't seem to have a genuine interest in seeing her students succeed. She didn't reply to any of the four emails I sent her this semester. You can pass her course if you already learned the material in high school, but if you don't and need to learn it, I can't recommend taking her.
Complete lack of care for student success, poor at getting grades back in a timely manner, constantly belittles students, picks favorites who she doesn't mind joking with, wastes class time either complaining about students or trying to get herself organized, which she never is. 350 characters is not enough space to complain about her.
Ms. Carr doesn't show enough interest or care to teach this class effectively. I along with my classmates constantly find myself confused. She is always going off track during her lectures and will often spend 15 minutes discussing a problem that everyone except her, understands when there are questions the class has that she refuses to answer.
Mrs. Carr is probably my favorite professor this semester for sure. Every class is hilarious but she always takes the time to lecture. If you put in effort and show it, she will be more than willing to be help out. Super cool.
Miss Carr is a really corky and funny lady, but is easily distracted and makes getting through class tough sometimes. Isn't very good about staying on schedule and isn't always clear on what she's trying to teach. Likes to assign quizzes out of spite. Overall a very fun lady that likes to joke, but the students teach the class more often than not.
Mrs. Carr is a nice, funny lady who cares about you and will help you if you ask. That being said she is a horrible teacher and I'm not sure how she got hired. Be prepared for a lot of homework that she doesn't teach, and random pop quizzes. She takes forever on grading tests and doesn't know how to work anything on blackboard.
If there's anybody else you can take this class with, DO IT. I'm good at math and didn't struggle, I only needed this class for the credit, but I guarantee I could have taught this course better than her. I was constantly explaining things to people around me because she teaches in the worst way. She gives random quizzes every class, so show up!
Mrs. Carr is a reasonable teacher. She doesnt always know what she is talking about but she is fair and understanding.
Luckily I took this class in high school, because if I hadn't there is no way I would have passed. She lacks the ability to identify student confusion, let alone find new ways to explain concepts to students struggling. If you have any anxiety beware! She often shows up late, but will stop class to make a scene if you show up two minutes after her.
If you are looking to get a C or better, don't take Carr. She was goofy during the lectures, but they were so boring and very unorganized. later on in the year she said she was going to do a 3 hour review for the final. I went and she did 4 problems and graded papers for the remainder of the time. Go to her office hours if you somehow get her!!!!!!
This professor does not actually teach but rather regurgitates stuff from a piece of paper. She also will say you have no homework and then let you take a late grade. Funny lady though.
I dreaded going to this class. It was so hard to comprehend what she was teaching. She was very disrespectful to all students. It never seemed as if she actually cared about us as her students or if we were actually learning. She showed up late and would be rude to students when they had questions. I sat silent everyday confused and miserable.
Ms. Carr is easily the least prepared and confusing instructor I have ever had the displeasure of having. She is routinely late to class, has other students make her copies of notes during class time, fails to do simple Algebra while teaching, and often punishes the class when we dare to ask others next to us how to do a problem. Steer clear.
Do the review packets given for the exams. Do the homework! Focus in class and ask questions. She doesn't get back to my emails.
If you can take this class with a different professor, please do. Ms. Carr was funny, but wasn't clear on instructions and just read from her book without explaining the work. If you questioned the problem/her work, she would become defensive and not let you ask the question. She also liked to embarrass students by bringing up their test scores.
Really nice old lady, but doesnt know what she is talking about. Thank God I took this class in high school, or else I wouldve failed it. I literally had to teach the class one day because she didnt know how to do it. Also some of the things that she waspositive that it was correct, was she thought 1-.96.7 like how?
Awful teacher, doesn't know what she is talking about and is late to class every single day and then keeps you late. Doesn't teach the material well, and then expects you to know what you are doing on quizzes and tests. Would give quizzes as a punishment, and then never put them in the grade book. Do not take her, she is one of the worst teachers.
Ok, So I'm good at math. Took CC Pre-Calc in high school and everything. If you can do mental math really easily you will have an EXTREMELY tough time with this class. She is an extremely hard grader to the point that if you don't explicitly TELL HER on the paper that you multiplied something, she takes off points. Please just avoid her.
This is without a doubt the worst professor Ive ever had. Gave 130 math hw probs in same week. Grades super harshly. Once told me a specific date and time to come retake a test and then didnt have it prepared when I got there so she told me to come back another time and the same thing happened. This happened a total of 5 times.
makes herself avail outside of class. Understands moth math concepts but screws up a minimum of 2 problems each class. Terrible at explaining if you already struggle to understand. Hard of hearing. Questions get distorted into something they're not. Moves fast without her class understanding. if you didn't already learn, you won't w Carr. AVOID!!
She is lowkey a mess. I took Calculus as a senior in highschool and now Im taking this class as a freshman in college. It's an easy class don't get me wrong. However, Ms. Carr is really bad at teaching. She expects you to know everything, like when homework is due, but she does not assign it with a due date. Terrible teacher. Avoid class. Please.
Was never available to meet outside of class. Was asked to email her to open assignments and she never opened them
If this review stops at least one of you from taking her class I will have done the world a service. Carr doesn't teach at all, instead she posts online lectures from another teacher for you to watch, meaning even the seated course I took was all online. She's usually 5-10 minutes late to class too
She is by far the worst teacher I have ever had, I even tried contacting the head of the math department and the dean about her. She doesn't teach and all she does is get upset with us for not doing homework. She said she would open homework for me to improve my grade and she never did. Because of her not teaching i have to take the class again :(
Carr literally shouldn't be allowed to teach. Expects you to learn everything from the textbook and hardly goes over anything in lectures. Gives lots of homework and is constantly changing the due date for it. She's strict and unhelpful. Unless you want to teach yourself math do NOT take this course.
Please, Please, Please do not take Sylvia Carr for math unless it is your very last option. She is usually late to class, she almost never teaches the class a thing, and gets angry when you do not have any questions. This week we came to class for 10 min so she could yell at us for not having the homework done... THE HOMEWORK DUE 3 DAYS FROM THEN.
just don't do it
Sylvia not only rarely tells students when she assigns homework, but she also never tells students when the homework is assigned. She randomly puts quiz grades in for classes that did not have a quiz. You can do extremely well on the homework but it will not raise your grade at all. She does not respond to emails and does not help students at all.
Professor Carr is easily the most hypocritical professor in the world. She will explain what you need to know for the test, however, never teaches it to you. She constantly expects you to know how to do her homework while she waits to teach it, the day it is due. She occasionally cracks a joke, but it does not make me want to recommend her.
Do not take a class with professor Carr. Felt as if she didnt truly care or respect her students. She sent out tedious lecture videos, and quizzed us in class while not really teaching anything. Only take her if you plan on teaching yourself throughout the semester.
I have never had a teach with such a rude manor full of attitude. She talks down to her students and is not familiar with the content she is teaching. Carr is not helpful to the actual learning of her students. The tests and quizzes are nothing similar to what she teaches in class. Do not take her classes.
Once you get past her interesting personality, she really can be a good teacher. Show up to class and do your work and she will make sure you do good in the class. This class specifically, she only used an online platform so be prepared to teach yourself for the most part. Otherwise, I really don't have complaints.
I don't know how anyone has been able to take this course and pass. I dropped it within 2 weeks because I had absolutely no way of passing. Her teaching style is very weird and I dreaded going to her class. She singles out people, gives quizzes/tests on material she never teaches and wants everything done her specific way. I wouldn't recommend it.
Does not teach except for a a few times a year. Does not answer emails often. Spends more time yelling at the class then teaching. Sits at desk all class and doesn't answer many questions. Overall do not recommend her and if you get stuck with her I am sorry.
Does not teach, doesn't really actually even understand what she attempts to teach, super rude to students especially if they have questions. Was consistently 10-15 minutes late to class every single period. Impossible to pass no matter how hard you try.
Carr is really not an awful professor. She uses an online website for everything&just gives you a deadline for when to have your topics done by. I would not say attendance is mandatory, however she does give pop quizzes so you may miss some, but they are only worth 5% of your grade. Make sure to study for her tests as they are most of your grade
Take this course online or at a different program because it is incredibly difficult. She is VERY unhelpful and degrading. She does not teach the information at all, and takes away the tools that are there to help you on the online homework. She belittles her students and also refuses to answer emails which is incredibly frustrating. DONT TAKE!
She is AWFUL! Will yell at you for asking a question, and be very unhelpful if you are confused. Literally bangs on the board if even one person does poorly on a test. Homework every week will be like 26 problems each with 8 parts... takes hours. Random quizzes over random topics and she does not give you heads up about them.
Ms. Carr is a very interesting lady. She was very rude to a lot of her students, but you just have to get on her hood side. I would recommend taking another teacher if possible. If you get stuck with her make sure that you apply yourself to the class or you will fail. I studied all of the notes and I ended up getting a B. Not impossible to pass.
Ms Carr is one the best She makes you stay on top of things and wants you to learn. I attended her test review feeling very illl. She noticed and told me to schedule another date to take the exam because she wanted me to do well. There are very few instructors at the University level who take the time to care about students.
Professor Carr was prepared everyday for class and expected the same from her students. She genuinely cares about her students and makes every effort to help them be succesful.
